I think you have to be looking for trouble if you take Calculus I with this guy. He was really unreasonable when I took it with him in Spring 2001. It look as if people here are happier with him in terms of the class he has been teaching lately. Maybe he was so horrible at Calc that he was switched.

Very unclear in his teachings, and went too fast with his explanations. No incentive to go to class since his accent was thick and he didn't explain himself very well.

Heavy accent, which made it rather difficult to understand what he was saying at times. Curves most exams because students do so poorly! Mandatory attendance & hw's, he's easily annoyed, treats students like they are in HS (although some deserved that treatment). Try to take someone else but if he's only option then I HIGHLY suggest teaching urself

This teacher can barely speaks english and he does not know how to explain. His exams are very hard, exams are not related to what we did in class.

If you want to learn math and receive a good grade, avoid taking this professor's class. I felt like I did not learn anything at all, and the exams are difficult, he doesn't give enough time. He just copies the easy examples from the book, and puts a lot more difficult problems on the test. The class is very boring since you don't learn.

Worst professor of my mathematical career. Difficult to understand. Rushes through material. Exams are nothing like classwork.

Hardest math professor there is in Hunter. He's stingy when it comes to giving partial credit on questions on the exam and the exams don't reflect what he teaches in class. Had to withdraw, and most ended up withdrawing or doing credit no credit. Do not make the wrong decision and take his course, there's a high likelihood you'll regret it.

Quite a terrible combination of hard tests and very little partial credit. Also, good luck following along with his lectures. A good majority of the class dropped/did Cr/NC so do yourself a favor and don't take it with him if he's your only option.

Do yourself a favor and JUST. DON'T. TAKE. HIM. Even if his class is the only option left. Take it next semester if you have to. Take it once and pass, don't take it twice with a failing grade.

Just don't take this class. Please, listen... If you can, wait until you find a better professor. Your GPA will thank you for it.

Honestly the worst math class I've ever taken. Basic intermediate algebra I understood in 8th grade is suddenly confusing by the end of the class period, better to go back and look at my own notes. He's angry and sarcastic, does not engage well with students in any way. Not worth my tuition.

The worst professor. The way he teaches is horrible, he's so rude and will make you feel stupid when asking certain questions.

The rudest man I have ever met. If he is the only professor you can take class with, wait until next semester. He doesn't explain thoroughly or account for the different levels of understanding in the class. Insults and demeans students when they don't understand.

DON'T take him! he had a lot passion on math, but don't know how teach. he don't like student ask question during the class. The exams are extremely difficult and much harder then the homework question.

I'm sure he is great at math because he does know everything that he is "teaching" but he does not know how to convey his knowledge to the students. He talks way too fast and goes over way too many new topics in a single lecture. He never spends more than 30 minutes on a topic and jumps from one thing to another constantly. Would never retake.

He goes over the easiest examples in class but his tests are on a whole other level. Puts in grades right before they are due so you basically cant even ask him to round it up and he rarely answers emails.

Extremely rude professor. Will make you feel stupid if you ask a question he doesn't like. His homework deadlines are so short and tightly packed. No office hours and openly admits that he will rarely check emails. Strict no phone & laptop policy. Hardly takes the time to thoroughly explain a topic. You'll be teaching yourself 90% of the material.

He is so bad at teaching, despite knowing the content. It would be better to take this class having already taken AP Calculus just so you're familiar with everything, but even then he's better at confusing students more than helping. All he does is solve problems on a board, but at least he tells you what you should know and study.

DO NOT take this professor very mean andgoes too fast.Literally,the second class I had the textbook onmy laptop as a pdf and not a physical copy he sees my laptop and tells me to put it away I try to say that my textbook is on my laptop but just cuts me off and tells me to put it away.He makes his own exam and teaches the exact thing from textbook.

You will be teaching yourself in this class cause he's a TERRIBLE teacher. Exams are 90% of your grade and he's very precise with how he wants the work. If you enter his class, PLEASE WITHDRAW and save yourself the headache. He doesn't give practice tests and copies straight from the textbook. So if you want to cry by all means take this class. GL!

Not trying to scare you. Do yourself a favor and pick someone else unless you like to challenge yourself. You will need to do a lot of self-learning. Take him into consideration if you have a really good understanding of calculus. Exams are difficult.

He is so bad at teaching. He teaches straight from the textbook and his exams are usually way harder than the material in class. The way he speaks to students is so disrespectful and is always annoyed when you ask him questions. If you have him as a professor, do yourself a favor and drop the class.

Calculus I with Professor Komatsubara is a particularly difficult undertaking. Exams are extremely lecture heavy and account for 90% of your grade. Lectures consist of the professor copying the textbook questions and mathematical theorems on the board verbatim and quickly erasing the board. Steer clear of this difficult professor!

DON'T TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!! Lectures are 2 hours, dull, and he goes way too fast to keep up w/. He has a roster to sign every class and stops lectures to stare at you walking in late. Grade is based on 3 tests and final (no midterm). No study guides, no clear explanation of what he is looking for on the tests. I took Calc in hs and am struggling.

His lectures are straight from the textbook with little to no extra explanation. He teaches everything really fast. The examples he shows in class are super simple, whereas the examples in the test are extremely hard. Good luck, if you are taking Calc 150 with him since you will mostly be doing self studying.

Does not adequately prepare students for exams. No practice exams, no practice problems, no formula sheet, nothing. Useless review sessions. Harsh grader, tests are long and difficult. But does give random bonus points in the exams if you show some extra work up to his standards and + some extra credit. I don't even know how to study for his exams.

Meet Komatsubara, the professor you won't soon forget. No review sheets, just tons of homework. Don't expect much extra credit either. I mean, seriously, one measly extra credit question on the exams? He'll stare you down if you're late, and his exams are brutal. His lectures? Dull and straight from the textbook. Avoid at all costs.

I beg you, do not take this class, for your own sake. He grades unfairly. The lectures are terrible you sit there for also 2 hours listening to him read off a paper. One of the worst professors I have ever come across. He would get anxious whenever I asked him questions. He would leave classroom whenever he got anxious if students did not listen to him. He does not know what he is teaching and just simply writes things in the board copying from the textbook.

he's a nice person, but that doesn't mean he's a good professor. his lectures are read straight from a textbook, and do not help you prepare for his tests at all. honestly, if you take his class, you may as well not have a teacher; be prepared to learn everything yourself. oh, and don't be late or get up for no reason, or he will embarrass you

The lectures are straight from the textbook but feel very rushed and anxiety-inducing. I was writing the entire time except for the 2-minute break halfway through. He did not give exam practice/reviews and the tests were nothing like the class material. I would take MATH150 with someone else...

Even though he speaks good English but due to his accent its really hard to understand not only that he can not teach any student or make them understand any equation properly as he should. I doubt even if the student is Japanese he or she or they can understand anything because of how he teaches.

Honestly don't take the class he doesn't make it easy for you, there's no handouts, no review for testes nothing online to help you pass this course. He gives TONS of homeworks , his whole class is from the textbook he READS EVERYTHING from the textbook and you have to pretty much help yourself or have a pretty good understanding of precalc.

Dull lectures just writing on the board. He can be nice but can have a massive ego trip. Was averaging a C, dropped and retook it with a different prof and got an A+. Unnecessarily strict on grading, like come on not every single step can be shown in the ridiculously short amount of time given for exams. Even got A+ for calc 2, he'll kill ur gpa gl

Do not under any circumstance take this class if you struggle even a little bit with math. He is a SUPER hard grader and does not offer any extra credit. He is a nice person, but the way he teaches and presents the material is very vague. Test questions are confusing as well.

Lit save yourself!! This professor does not care for his students, and you can tell by the way he teaches. He makes everything so vague and makes the material unnecessarily difficult. I had to teach myself everything the whole semester. His tests are 90% of the whole grade and are very different from what he teaches in class, and 10% on hw.

heavy accent which makes it even harder to follow along in addition to his fast pace when lecturing. it's true he's a tough grader & occasionally gives one extra credit question on exams which won't boost your grade if you are already failing each exam. avoid this professor if you can! Really wish i dropped by the first week of the semester...

If you take him you're literally going to risk your gpa, This man doesn't even respond back to emails, you literally have to teach yourself EVERYTHING!! and don't even think to yourself "oh I'll pass he's polly not that bad" Because he is that bad!! its impossible half of the class failed!!

This is hands-down the WORST professor I have ever had! If anyone recommended him for you- never speak to them again. He gives no online notes, uses only chalkboard like its ancient times, has an accent you will not understand, and offerers zero extra credit.
