GREAT TEACHER!
He seems a little new to teaching, but he tried really hard to make sure his students understand what he is talking about and clearly understand the topics. Will happily do mulitple examples if you just ask. Go to this class because he takes quiz questions out of his lectures not out of the book.
Great Teacher! explained confusing concepts in a very clear way. If you go to class the weekly quizzes are really easy. Do the practice exams that he puts on blackboard and you will do well on tests. He's really enthusiastic in class and knows what he's talking about!!
He is an easy teacher you dont even need to go to class because he puts all his notes on blackboard. he talk really softly so make sure you sit in the front of the class if you want to be able to hear the lecture. easy teacher and helpful.
awesome proffesor.he's very friendly and a really good teacher; he explains things thoroughly and uses multiple examples to make sure you understand the concepts well. great lecturer & he encourages class discussions and you'll do good on quizes and exams if you go to class. pretty easy class. and he's very nice and extremely helpful :)
Great Professor! Really great at explaining everything, and hes always available if you don't understand a concept. Hes funny and enthusiastic about what hes teaching. I enjoyed it a lot for being an ECON class!
Basically, he is one of the best teachers I have had. You go to class, he lectures you leave. You get one quiz a week and take two midterms and a final. don't worry about the quizes too much 5 pts each. for the exams study his practice exam and you will get an A. he basically copies it.Good teacher I wish he did 102
I love professor Foad. He is so nice and caring and it is nice to have an econ class that didn't have you clock watching the entire time. I took it in the summer and got a B and I bet if I actually looked at my notes I would have gotten an A.
Make sure you sit towards the front of the classrom because he talks very softly. Very knowledgeable about econ. Tests are part MC, part problem solving. He curves all of the tests a lot so everyone ends up doing pretty well.
He taught me everything I know about elasticity. His demand curve is rubenesque!
He was a really good teacher. I learned a lot from him and his exams are exactly like his practice exams. If you do not do well in this class then you really should not go into business. It is basic and he uses examples for everyone to understand. However he does talk soft so listen carefully.
Really wants his students to do well. Exams are pretty much straight from the practice tests. Weekly quizzes can be tough, but you can drop your two lowest scores. Pretty funny guy too.
Dr. Foad is one of the best professor's I have had at SDSU. Not only are his classes interesting but he is excellent at explaining the concept's he is presenting. I wouldn't say he was an easy professor but it's not a really difficult class either if you pay attention.
took this class over the summer... tests were pretty hard. no need to buy the book
Took this class during the summer and it was ultimately pretty easy. Foad is a good teacher but he needs to speak louder sometimes. This class DOES NOT require a textbook!!!(its optional, thanks for saving me money Foad!)He does have pop quizes to get people to come to lecture though.
Foad is an amazing professor; the only one who's got my complete attention focused onto. He has excellent organization skills (despite the 400 people goofing off a bit in class) and doesn't take any bull, but he's willing to help anyone when they need it. I've been taking his class for a month, but he reminds me of my high school Econ teacher.
Good teacher with good attitude. The class is hard but he curves the tests.
his teaching style is not for me he reads from power point and you can print out the slides. Homework on Aplia, dont need the book but you need for homework online because he doesn't always cover in class. tests are hard alot of graphs and short answer questions. must have a good understanding of his teaching to pass.but he is a nice guy.
easy if u study and pay attention ..nuff said
He is very enthusiastic. The notes are helpful but the homework is sometimes much more complicated so what you learn in class is not all you need to know.
He's an econ nerd. He seems like he really loves the subject and he makes it easy to understand. There's clicker questions everyday but attendance isnt really mandatory. If you go to class, you don't need to read the book. He explains things really well. Plus he's really funny and makes class worth going to
He's very enthusiastic about Econ and uses examples that are easy to follow and relate to. I was not interesting when I signed up for this class, but his teaching style changed my mind and made me look forward to classes. Friendly guy, but his tests are moderately scary. Don't need the book as long as you take thorough notes.
His class is boring and very difficult to pay attention in because he doesn't connect well with his students, he just stands there rattling off facts and numbers. I graduated high school with a 4.2 and am getting a B in his class because he is truly not a good teacher. His tests are unlike anything he goes over in class and he has clicker q's daily
Aplia homework was a killer.
Good Teacher, but hard to focus in such a large class (500 Kids). Clicker questions and quizzes regularly. Aplia online homework hella kills it. Practically due every other day. Otherwise Exams easy (curved) You can do well without paying attention.
He is a good teacher but it was a huge class so it was kind of hard to concentrate. Does his best to crack jokes. The exams were pretty easy and I never really studied. The only reason to go to class is to get clicker points because he has all the lecture slides online. Take him!
i love foad! Hes a really good teacher and i learned a lot from his class! all his notes are powerpoints and they're all on blackboard. you dnt really need the book. theres 3 exams, the final is just another 1 of the exams, not cumulative. I suggest goin 2 class, not mandatory, but its helpful & u get clicker points! An A is possible if u try
Really really hard class. I do not feel like I learned anything. He was really hard to understand and that made me not focus in class. Also the homework is impossible!!!! the only good thing about the class was the clickers : ) and the experiments. Don't take his class if you don't have to!
NEVER USES THE TEXT BOOK. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK. THEY DO NOT BUY IT BACK AND YOU DO NOT USE IT. DO NOT BUY THE BOOK. Decent teacher, but Econ can be hard in a 500 person class
good teacher. must sit in front if you actually want to learn something. 500 person lecture hall. kind of a lot of hw and has weekly quizzes. gives you a study guide before each test that essentially mirrors the actual test. 3 exams total
Well he wasn't that bad. His lectures could get boring at times but when he tries to come up with jokes...makes the class seem funner! The good thing about it being a HUGE class...around 500...was that we had clickers and the homework was online so none of that textbook stuff. Anyways just study with blackboard and DO THE PRACTICE EXAMS!!!
DONT BUY TEXTBOOK.HE USES POWERPOINT SO ITS HELPFUL TO PRINT IT OUT ON BLACKBOARD.DOWNER IS HE USES ONLINE HOMEWORK. you need to study to get at least a "C"!
EASY CLASS. Only thing is its a 500 person class. He curves everything has all of his lectures online and he uses online hw. The hw is hard but he curves that too. DEF take this professor hes pretty funny too.
Fairly good teacher. Really knows the subject. If you love going to class, and doing homework and don't do that well on tests, take him! Out of 1,000 class points 300 are for attendance and homework, then 120 more for in class quizzes. 3 tests, non-cumulative and all curved, third test is the final. If you don't like going to class, don't take him!
Prof. Foad is legit. makes a complex subject somewhat interesting and gives you exactly what you need for the exams. way too much homework for the class but he curves it at the end. HIGHly RECOMEND for econ.
Very good at explaining and responding to questions. Did an amazing job of maintaining the 500 person class involved. DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK. I passed with an A, didn't even buy the textbook. Take this class!
The class involves a lot of difficult online homework, mandatory attendance & 3 exams. He gives good study guides for the exams. Don't buy the book its unnecessary.
class was a good learning experience. if you feel like you need the book, buy it online for like $30. online hw and 3 tests, participation (clickers) all determine final grade
reads off the powerpoint but go to class because you'll need to know how to do graphs that he does in class. homework is important, it really helps your grade out.
He just reads powerpoints in class and the only reason people show up is for clicker pts.
TAKE THIS CLASS!! i have to admit econ was one of the harder subjects for me, but with foads help i was able to end up with a b+. one word of advice: he offers one BIG ec in the semester and he's very hush hush about it. make sure you do it.
Very good professor. He's not hard at all. If you do all your reading and study, you should ace his tests. His tests are not that difficult. He tries to help out students as much as possible.
Interesting course, lectures are very clear, reading is challenging and interesting, but you could do pretty well by just going to class.
This class is very interesting because he is such a good professor and knows how to teach economics. He is very clear during lectures, it is obvious he is passionate about the subject so its very motivating. He is very helpful during office hours as well. Definitely a good professor!
His class is so boring! i dozed off so much during the semester, he just reads off the powerpoint. No need paying attention in class because he gives you a study guide which is basically like the test itself. There are quizzes too, which are not hard, but not easy. Don't take unless you have to.
Boring subject, boring class unless you are particularly interested in economics. Study study study the study guides for the tests. The tests are straight from it with different numbers and shorter than the study guides. Homework is easy. Quizzes are hard, pay attention in class, if you can or buddy up!
Class wasn't to hard as long as you show up to class for clicker points and do the homework assignments. Tests are similar to homework assignments and the practice test he has online.
Dr Foad knows his stuff. I can understand how people say his class may be hard. Just go to all his classes and do the homework and you'll be fine. Dont buy the book.
Not really hard, just do the homework. Oh and the book is useless, he only tests you on what he says in class, and all of the power points are online, so you don't need to show up to learn it (it is just easier to understand that way). Overall, its a good class.
Very passionate professor. You do not need the textbook, although it may help if the homework is unclear. The tests are easy.
Such a nice professor - you can tell he really loves teaching. Go to class for clicker points, you don't need the book, tests are multiple choice and free response. MC is easy, but free response can be tough if you dont pay attention to graphs and stuff throughout lecture. Overall a good class.
Foad made lectures somewhat interesting, it was a large class so sitting in the front might be more helpful Attendance isn't mandatory, but show up for clicker points He usually gave bonus points after a quiz do all the homework study the powerpoints and study all the graphs they'll help out a lot on the tests especially on the short answer part
Great teacher. Very cool and easy going. Quizzes and tests are super easy if you just go to class and listen. No need to buy the books at all. Just go over lecture slides and easy A
Great teacher. Super cool and easy going. No need to buy the book, quizzes are easy as long as you go to class. Go over the lecture slides and easy A
It would've been nice if Foad wrote his own tests (60% of you're grade), maybe I would've earned a better grade. All in all, a good class and Foad is very knowledgeable in the material.
his lectures are clear and his class is easy to pass for the experienced slacker
I liked Foad a lot. He acts kinda cocky but he is a chill and pretty straight forward guy. I got a C+ but go an A on the last 2 exams I just never showed up for the quizes so my quiz avg was pretty bad. Class is not mandatory but if you go itll be easy to do good on the quizes. Tests are pretty easy just study the practice exams and u will be fine.
He is great! I love his lectures and he is pretty hot!
He is the best! Very intelligent, knowledgeable. Great teacher! You will enjoy his class!
I loved Foad's class! Professor is extremely helpful. Practice exam before every exam(helps a lot!) The clarity-crystal! I?m looking forward to take another class with him!
One of the coolest Econ professors at SDSU. If you want to do well, then study for the quizzes (which always have a bonus question) and the tests (which always have 3 bonus question). Its not an easy class but he uses slides and the lectures are kept interesting. I recommend him.
Awesome class and professor. A freshman can take this grad level class with Foad teaching because he's extremely clear and helpful. The class is none the less tough.
Very smart, helpful, and interesting. The class is tough, but he's so clear that some effort will earn you a good grade.
Very helpful, knowledgeable and nice professor. Class is not hard and very interesting.
Dr. Foad is awesome. Attendance is not mandatory but honestly just go, lectures are interesting and he has a quiz almost every week, but you need to be in class to know quiz dates. Practice exams are exactly like exams. Not an easy class but Foad is a great professor and will provide you all material. Dont buy the book.
We never used our book. Each week he had quizzes that were pretty easy as long as you attend class. The exams are easy - again, as long as you attend class. He gave us 4 essay questions and we only had to answer 3 of them. He gives podcast reviews before exams. He is very clear and a great teacher.
AMAZING CLASS! GREAT TEACHER! He does such a great job teaching and is really great in office hours. Got 103/100 on the first test. Only got an A- because I turned in two country reports late. You HAVE to have the book because there's random stuff from it. No pop quizzes. EC is current event info. If you're an inter econ major you'll love it.
I am currently taking this class. He gives clear, understandable lecture and keeps it entertaining. Uses real world examples and allows us to relate. I feel like his grading is generous. Definitely a top Econ Professor.
He knows his stuff and gives regular quizzes to make sure you do. Attend class, take notes, and you'll get an A
He is one of the top professors I had during my college career. He articulates the material in a very unambiguous way. It was an interesting class.
GREAT PROFESSOR! He is passionate, and the topic is very interesting and relevant to our lives. Every lecture is pretty good, although you may become bored, but he keeps it going decently. 3 non-cumulative exams, study the slides and study guide really well and you're good. He's awesome, I would take his class again.
Absolutely great class and professor! Take it!
Hisham Foad is an excellent scholar! His lectures are always clear and interesting. I think he is one of the best, if not the best professors I have ever encountered during my 10 years of cumulative post graduate studies. Econ 365 (Economics of Underdeveloped Areas) was one of my favorite courses at SDSU. I highly recommend Professor Hisham Foad!
The class is hard, but Foad is the best teacher I've found at state. You can expect lucid, logical, and challenging curriculum every single class. I have a love hate relationship with his classes because of the difficulty but its worth taking
Great, knowledgable Professor. Quizzes based directly off required, weekly readings. Offers extra credit and explains material very well. Exams based off of quizzes. 10/10 but be prepared to read/study plenty of material. Also, easy project given to boost your grade.
Expectation's are clear. Your grade will reflect your preparation
The class itself was challenging but Professor Foad was great! His teaching style is the type where you walk away feeling like you actually learned something. He presents the information in the form of a question and forces you to actually think. His expectations are very clear, he tells you when there will be a quiz and gives practice exams.
One of the best professors in the Econ department. Lectures aren't boring and makes the topic super interesting. attend lectures and study the study guides and you'll do great on the tests. Very straightforward and no surprises!
One of the most rewarding classes in the entire MA program. Professor Foad is always prepared and can explain each concept in a multitude of ways, so if you don't understand it just ask for clarification. The exams are straightforward and similar to his study guides. He provides his lecture notes, which serve as useful resources when studying.
Foad has been my favorite economics professor at SDSU. The guy really cares about his students and makes complicated information easy to understand. there are pop quizzes, so attend class and he will tell you at the end of the class before, even though attendance was not mandatory.
I really liked this class and I feel like I learned a lot about exchange rates, interest rates, parity theories, the IMF, and integration patterns for adoption of a common currency. Foad is a good professor, great when compared to most econ professors at SDSU. Lectures are clear and tests are fair. I'd take him again.
One of the best Professors I've had at SDSU. Makes the subject very interesting-you'll learn a lot in this class. Great lecturer. You have to put in effort to receive an A/B but he gives you all the resources (lecture notes/study guides/practice exams) so it's very very doable. Great job, Professor Foad!
Dr. Foad is seriously the BEST professor at SDSU. Although attendance is not mandatory, he makes lectures super interesting and they're helpful for tests/quizzes. Theres a quiz almost every other class, 3 tests, and a group project. Can be a hard class if you skip but he provides you all he resources you need to pass.
Dr. Foad is a fantastic professor in all of his classes. Really smart guy that gives clear and concise lectures and doesn't try to trick you. He's always willing to help and give additional explanations outside of class. Taking classes with Foad was the reason I decided to go to grad school for economics. Best Econ professor at State.
By far the best econ professor you can take. He really simplifies things and everything is off his lectures. He posts recordings of his lectures and also the documents he goes over. As long as you study the modules you will be fine.
Took it during summer and it was super simple and straightforward. 6 open-note quizzes, pre-recorded lectures, discussion question every week, and play-posit questions after lecture video. Participation matters, but is super helpful for the quizzes!! Very caring professor and made the class simple and very manageable. Definitely one of the best!
Best economics professor!!! Took his summer class and he is the best. Grades consist of discussion boards, play posit questions, 7 exams, and a project on a developing country. Exams are based on lecture videos and are open note. The project is simple and easy, broken up into 4 parts. Definitely take him if you can!
I think that he is quite boring, and it is really hard for me to learn when im not engaged, so sitting in a lecture hall listening to one person talk for 1.25 hours is not for me. I don't think that he's a great professor for an introduction level class, for as someone with no knowledge, it was really hard to learn because he moves very fast.
Take this professor! He really knows what he's talking about and his lectures show that. He makes it very interesting every class and is super funny. You will need to study a lot for the exams and stay on top of the homework, but it's definitely manageable. Go to class it's easy to get behind if you miss a class or two in a row, also uses iclicker.
Found him passionate about the subject. Read one chapter a week, one discussion board every 4 chapters, and uses iclicker. No final or midterm. Just a unit test every 4 chapters which consists of mutiple choice mostly.
HW is super easy and there is not too much of it. Tests are straightforward and curved. He's pretty chill and it'd recommend taking him.
He explained things very well and gave a lot of examples during lectures. Posts lecture notes online and provides practice tests. Attendance isnt taken but you have to be in lectures for iClicker. My only complaint is I wish there were some extra credit offered, and I feel like tests account for too much of your grade, but overall great professor.
Found his class pretty easy, you can tell he knows what he is talking about. He provides a lot of real world examples and answers questions from his students. Not heavy on homework either.
Amazing professor - the hw takes like 10 mins every week. Discussion boards are also very very easy every couple of weeks. I got a B on all three tests but if you pay attention or read the book (i think there was a book but not sure) you should get an A easy. Also uses iclicker for attendance, but lectures are easier than reading the book anyways
Hw was mainly achieve readings/questions and then a discussion board about every week. Very lecture-heavy & had clicker points but I could do well without listening during lectures and then spending time reviewing on my own. I think he curved the final or the grades bc idk how I got 100% on the final after learning everything day of. Overall easy.
Very easy and straightforward class. No surprises.
Professor Foad makes this class super straightforward. Engage with the lecture videos and use resources like Unstuckstudy to ace the quizzes. Definitely one of the best Econ professors!
Hisham is a good professor and cares about the classes he teaches. I honestly just found his lecturing to be pretty boring, you likely won't feel the same. Class is very fair, exams are straightforward. Roughly 8 discussion boards for credit, real simple stuff. Take him if you need it, but it's not a freebie.
