Maybe Hobbes is an okay prof in person but this class was terrible online. Projects always needed corrections. 30 min of lectures were posted a week without enough detail for assignments. Wasn't accessible outside "class". Office hours were replaced by a text channel in Slack where she would tell you to ask on Piazza, if you got a reply at all.

Hobbes is a decent professor in terms of being understanding and relatable, but I wouldn't say she is an excellent instructor. She gives off a passive-aggressive attitude sometimes, but I think that's just because she's tired after helping out a thousand students, so it makes sense. She's fun, the class is super easy as long as you actually do the homework.

Good teacher. The overall course is pretty easy. The projects take a lot of time but if you put in the time they aren't that bad. Tests are kind of difficult especially having to write code on paper. My only complaint specific to her teaching style is that the lecture slides are very light on information which makes it hard to skim later on.

Hobbes is fantastic! They are great especially for freshmen getting used to college, you'll always have a laugh in lecture. Hobbes never misses a question and her TA team is SO SO SO helpful, office hours are a LIFE SAVER! The course is only really difficult during recursion, exams are fairly ez if you understand concepts at their core, hw light

Hobbes is a good prof, but her lectures are pretty slow for students who know what they are doing. If you enjoy sitting and listening in a relaxed environment, then she can be really helpful and you will not struggle. The textbook (Codio) that they switched to this semester had lots of mistakes and was clearly generated mostly by ChatGPT.

Super kind and awesome professor. Decent lectures, attendance required. Course has a flexibility policy so your grade won't tank from just one F. Most negative things one could say about the class would be about the class or its format, not the professor themself. However, the mid-year project was poorly planned, presumably by multiple instructors.

Hobbes is a good lecturer and very knowledgeable and caring, but the lectures got to be quite slow, and most of the time was spent writing testers. Codio was also a horrible textbook rife with errors. The grading was very flexible, but the projects were often unnecessarily time-consuming.

Good professor, better than CS400. Group Projects are time consuming but not that bad, tests are pretty easy. Lectures are recorded but TopHat participation in class is mandatory.

Loved her class so much. She is a great professor: funny, engaging and kind. However, the projects and exams make this class quite work heavy and difficult. So I would highly suggest taking the lectures and readings seriously from the start.

Great professor in a bad course. If you've taken AP CS A, the class is mostly review with annoying restrictions, super long programming assignments, and tedious required pre-lecture readings that go over the same things that are in lecture, making the lectures feel optional despite graded participation. If you have to take this class, pick Hobbes.

She's awesome! I really enjoyed the lectures (that are live streamed by the way), and she did a fantastic job of explaining complex topics.

Hobbes is great, no doubt. CS300 could be more interesting though.
