Very animated and interesting despite subject matter. Makes it amazingly clear on the how and why. Very fair. Funny guy-expect to stay awake for subtle jokes. Highest rating on course eval's I've ever given a prof.
Not a good prof. Doesn't seem to know the subject.

He has no idea about "decision theory". He shouldn't teach this. Gives wrong answers.
This teacher is a dictator and I mean it. He can not teach upper graduate level classes due to the lack of experience. A lot of mistakes and if you try to point them out, he will fail you. Avoid him if you can. If you can't, act like you do not know the subject but do well on the tests. Not fair tea
Summer I is tough, He've tried to cover everything he can , the test some people said it's hard but all in all it's reasonable for us anyway, good luck everyone..
He uses BYU professors' notes as if the notes are his. One of his specialties is nonparametric stat, but he can't even come up with his own notes. What a professor!!!! For those of you who took this coures, check out the website http://statweb.byu.edu/faculty/wfc/stat435/ You'll see the exact same notes you had been busy copying down in class
Dr. Cho is a great professor. He loves to teach. The class is super hard. Dont get behind!
Dr. Cho is a really cool teacher, and a super nice guy but the class itself is pretty hard. The good news is, his grading scale is SUPER easy. As long as you can understand his accent (which can be a bit challenging), and do ALL the homework, you should be ok.
Don't be fooled by these ratings. Everyone is posting for him under "Hokwan" because they think that is his last name. Look there. He is incomprehensible. Can't understand him or his writing. Don't sit in the back because you won't be able to make out what's on the board. Studying seems useless. It's as though you either get it or you don't.
The worst you can get. You can't understand him at all
Took his summer 07 class and it was hard. His lectures were sometimes good and other times bad. He'll explain somethings more then others and will expect you to know it for test. VERY indecisive. Told us that some of chap6 would be on 2nd exam but ALL of chap6 was on it. Studied my ass off for final and got B+ for the class. Remember to do HW.
Don't take him. If you are on this web site then listen to what i am saying. DO NOT TAKE HIM. You can not understand what the hell he is saying.
His exams are difficult especially in summer classes because he expects you to really absorb the material. He grades fairly and has a nice curve. He does have a thick accent but you can tell he really loves teaching and he is extremely helpful. My advice go to his office hours but as far as 411 goes I've heard about worse profs. Highly recommend.
He's not a great professor at all. If you don't go to class, he could fail you.
Everyone on here is being so rude to cho! Let me tell you, I hate math with a huge passion. But if I was to have any professor in this class, I would want it to be him. He does have a thick accent but only a retard wouldn't be able to understand what he says. He's so helpful and always in a good mood. I highly recommend him! Btw, he's a push over.
Thick accent, but a great professor overall. I highly recommend him
Take careful notes. His exams were based on his lectures and HW problems. As long as you study at least those, you should do fine. I got a B+ (not an A- or A) because I underestimated the exams. I took this class over the summer. Miss one class, he'll notice. Curves a little too. But not helpful after class. He's good with returning emails.

he might be the nicest guy in the world, but it was the easiest decision of my academic career to switch professors. first day was a review of calc 1 (which i made a 97%). i left class so confused as to both his teaching style and accent, i felt ill. i was ready to take any other professor (even muleshkov). luckily dr. kern had one seat left...
i did not really like him
I am not sure if he knows what he is talking about or no! I will never take his class again
For the second semester in row Extremely weak knowledge of what he is talking about Mostly unprepared Poor teaching still
he is not a nice person at all
he like to track his student at hw and exams
He likes to laugh in class to show kindness but in fact he was laughing on us during the whole semester.. so difficult exam, hard hw, and bad on grading I will never recommending him for any class
bad English, bad teaching, bad grades, bad h.w., bad exams
You have to be strong when you talk with him otherwise he will take a big advantage of you He is not really a good teacher and I will not advice any one to take his class?. Always have an smile on his face but he can bit you easily from the back? so be very carful-----not a good person, not a good teacher, hard homework and bad English
Does not like questions being asked of him, not very helpful when asked. Does not like people who he thinks undermines his authority. Even got into at least three seperate arguments with students during class and quizzes. Do not recommend you take him.
This class should be an easy one to finish; This professor seems to be able to make that feel impossible. IF you can find a different teacher, go out of your way to do so. He can be quite mean and discouraging during class and one on one. Very unclear in class as well.
Though he means well he is totally disconnected from reality. One should never attempt to start and finish a new concept in the last 5 minutes. Furthermore, when you say something is going to be on a test, put it on the test. Also, provide the students with mock tests, to keep yourself honest. Finally, the text book was useless.
U r in trouble if 1. don't know your calculus I and II intimately, and 2. can't learn his accent by day 2 (3 at most). Regular semester might be fine, but summer stat411 moves FAST! Heavy use of the book (must have book). Exams are closed book, closed notes. Expect to spend 40 hours a week studying (I spent 70/week, while relearning calc :(.
He is an approachable professor who is willing to help his students succeed in class. He will advise you to do some of the problems in the book. Usually, some of the quiz/exam problems will have the same format as the ones in the book. During discussions, he can CLEARLY explain the topics (clear accent). Feel free to ask him questions, he's nice.
Dr.Cho is a very nice man. He is extremely helpful if you approach him. There are a lot of extra credit opportunities on the test. He only collects a few hw. Majority of the grade are quizzes and tests. By far the best calc prof I took. Taking him in the summer time is easier. Bigger curve!
He's a good teacher. If you learn the material the tests are pretty straightforward. He gives opportunities for bonus points every test. His accent is easy to understand. He tells some dumb jokes but they're still funny in a meta sort of way.
Just study to keep up! During summer this class is going forward crazy fast.
He doesn’t really knows what he is talking about The way he grade his is exam are really really really bad I wish if I did not take his class
This teacher does not like people who he thinks undermines his authority. Even got into at least three separate arguments with students during class and quizzes. Do not recommend you take him.
i hate him, please do not take his class. bad teacher and bad man. not nice on his garde and not a nice human at all.
Weak in English. English is weak. What more can I say.
I will have to agree with the previous post. If you are going to take his class, be prepared with his hard to understand English. It's that bad. I think he needs to take some English lessons first before they should let him teach math.
he is not a good person or even a good teacher, I do not like the way he graded my paper
Wow, what can I say. This professor is terrible! Questions are 10x more difficult on the test than on the HW. Doesn't give a review to prepare you either. Tests are near impossible to finish in the time allowed, let alone score well. First test the average was a 58%. Try to avoid if possible.
Not sure what other people are complaining about. This is an easy class.
Professor Cho is one of my favorties. He has a passion for math and it shows. He wants everyone to learn the material thoroughly and doesn't cut corners. Great for calculus 1 as it's a foundation course.
poor Quality_________poor personality, and poor teaching skills
He is not a good teacher at all
Good Professor. He expects you to do all the work plus some more. Test are insanely hard. You can do good in this class if you keep up and dedicate 10-15 hours of hard studying for this class.
Math 124 is not a very difficult class. The way to get a good grade is taking notes from his classes, and practice a lot after class.
Study your butt off. First test is the easiest, its all downhill from there
Cho is pretty funny even though his jokes are pretty 'lame'. He wants to see his students pass and is very helpful during office hours. He tells you most of what to expect on his tests so just put a couple hours in studying before hand.
I like Prof. Cho. If you do the work, your grade will reflect that. For the material, know your calculus. He gives slides with the important material. Yes, he has an accent, but I didn't find him difficult to understand. I would definitely recommend him.
Howkwon is mean. He will pretend to help you and in his words "Save private ryan" meaning try to help those who are doomed, but in reaility it's all cover up as he has no mercy. There is a built in curve of 5% so an 85% is an A and 75% a B and so on. Yet average on 1st test was 51, 2nd 40.. He jokes a lot at the expense of others. Students Beware!
I found the material in this course to be very difficult. This is a senior level course, and I think the majority of students go into this course with a heavy workload. Dr. Cho is a good professor, at times he is hard to understand. He really does try to help you succeed, and if you are struggling you need to attend office hours!
Dr. Cho is a great professor who wants to see his students succeed. He writes slides for every chapter and the tests are based off of them. Grades fair. Attend class and do all of the homework and you will easily pass. His class really isn't that tough. Engineers should be able to do Calculus at this level. If not, it's time to brush up on it.
I did get a good grade but I agree with some others, the workload in this class is ridiculous in combination with other classes. Tests are absurdly difficult and tricky. He will help you in his office hours, but overall my experience wasn't very positive. He usually teaches 411 so good luck.
Professor Cho is a weird guy, but math teachers are supposed to be a odd. He makes "dad" jokes a lot which will make you groan. He does cares about your grade and will help. I took the summer class and It is very fast paced. You need to remember double integration and integration by parts, which I didn't because I took Calc 2 a decade ago.
I thought he was very OK for STAT 411 although his tests were unnecessarily hard. In 467, he assigns extra homework and RIDICULOUS proofs. If you're reading this, the class is probably required so good luck.
Math 251 isn't required for this class, yet he still assigns the most complicated proofs I've seen in my life. This isn't really fair to the econ grad students, but hey what can you do.
His class is one of the most difficult I've taken, with average grades on tests in the 50s-70s range. He gives good feedback on homework and in office hours, but can sometimes seem unwilling to help due to his personality. He also has some weird tendencies, like cracking mean jokes at the expense of students.
Most amazing prof ever. Truly cares about students and performance, understood difficulty of summer stats. Rare math professor who actually knows how to teach, foster learning, and support student growth. Obviously dedicates a lot of time to going the extra miles to help students do well. Also very kind and humorous. Tests no joke, though.
As a math major, I have endured many of the professors at UNLV. Dr. Cho was easily the best professor I've had yet. His summer class is very fast paced and it's a ton of work, but he is extremely forgiving and offers many attempts to improve your overall grade. Read the book, do ALL of the homework, and study before tests, and you'll easily pass.
Doesn't really go over examples and just recites the lecture slides he gives in class. If you ask a question during class he may or may not answer it. He's funny but he should go over examples in a way students can understand. Tests are very difficult and the average grade is very low 50-60%. Homework is plentiful and hard to do with just his notes
His class is hard, but he gives a lot of extra points. (test corrections, for instance) Furthermore, he drops the two lowest quizzes. He's also very lenient with the grading due to the accelerated tempo during the summer. When he said that he was on our side, I thought he was joking. However, he truly cares for his students.
Doesn't give partial credit on tests, allows you to do redos for some points. Tends to go on rants and will rush to through material. He does example problems but mostly writes the problem down and writes PDIY (please do it yourself). Constantly makes mistakes in class and on tests! The highest grade for test 1 and test 2 were high D and low C
Dr. Cho is a very energetic guy. He makes the class very entertaining and interesting. This was a summer course and it was very fast paced as to be expected. His tests were more on the difficult side but he does give you chances to make up points on them. I definitely recommend him.
He is the most caring professor I've had in a while. You have to prepare a ton for exams though since his exams are known to be quite challenging. To do well, highlight the types of problems he emphasizes during lecture that will be on the exam and look at lecture notes. I wouldn't recommend taking another course with this one during the summer.
Easiest class I've ever taken, though I felt that it was a little too short and went a little too slow, even during the summer semester. We only covered chapters 1-10. I was wanting to go all the way to chapter 18, but I guess I would have to wait til STAT 412 to study those. Dr. Cho is simply the best professor I've ever had.
Although he was very caring and wanted all students to pass, he heavily focused on proofs and background information rather than providing proper examples. He also did not give credit to any problems with minor algebra mistakes (so if you lack in that area, be prepared to fail the course because he is not lenient with it).
By far the worst professor I have taken at UNLV. Always puts students on the spot which makes them uncomfortable. His way of teaching is talking to himself and writing on the whiteboard, no examples for exams. Makes mistakes constantly while grading. If I didn't check everything returned to me then I would have missed out on at least 20 points.
Dr. Cho is an excellent educator. He cares about students and understands that many people in the stat 152 class are taking it to satisfy other non-stat degrees. He is very kind, helpful, and fun to be in a classroom with. It is important to him that students show up for class and complete homework assignments so respect him by doing so. Worth it.
not a good teacher at all. don't take his class
While Dr. Cho is intelligent and caring, the amount of homework he gives every week earns him a 1/5. I spend almost all day completing these math problems of ridiculous lengths. Each section (1.1, 1.2, etc.)contains 10 separate problems, each one often comprised of up to 6 different lengthy problems (1a, 1b, 1c). If you want free time, steer clear.
Dr. Cho wants all of his students to pass and is such a fun and caring guy and professor. He loves to laugh and have fun during the lecture, but he has a very hard time getting his point across or dumbing things down for the students. He can be a little hard to understand and the class is not easy but once you get the hang of it it's not too bad.
Dr. Cho means the best, but probably shouldn't be a MATH 181 professor. He constantly goes off on random tangents that don't correlate with the lesson. He scribbles and expects you to know what he did and skips over explaining it. He also doesn't communicate w/ the TA so good luck on hw and quizzes because you're not going to know what's going on.
He's definitely trying but the lectures are not always clear. The tests are very difficult even for those who show up and pay attention. I managed to pass but I highly recommend going to his office hours. He is much more helpful there.
Professor Cho made me rethink liking math... and don't sit in the front row unless you want to be excessively called on. His tests are nothing like what he goes over in class and he is incapable of giving students the materials they need to succeed. Although he may come off as a nice guy, that doesn't cut it when it comes to an education.
Not the best teacher, but so incredibly lenient on grading that it offsets this. I dont really think theres any excuse to get a grade any lower than c if you study and do your part. He's incredibly understanding with personal issues and shows work thoroughly. Letter grades ranges 15 to 20 percent, ie i have a 79 and am about to receive an A-
The mean scores on the first and second exams were 58 and 50 respectively. He does care about his students and lets you do exam corrections to get some points back. Homework isn't too difficult but there's a lot. I highly suggest you don't take this class with any other courses because it is extremely time consuming, especially if you want to pass.
This class is hard. Don't mistake that. Expect to study 10-15 hours a week with problems that are hard to decipher. Dr. Cho is very enthusiastic about Stats, but his exams involve many curveballs, w/ ones never seen in the HW. Test means were in the 50s before test corrections. Review by parts & double integrals. Front row gets ridiculed a lot.
Dr Cho is a great choice for a Statistics course. Over the course of the semester, I always found his lectures to be fun and informative. Statistics is quite a boring subject if we are all being honest, but Dr. Cho's enthusiasm, positivity, and humor made me want to show up to class. He is very nice man and wants to see all of his students succeed!
Great professor. Tests were difficult but their difficulty was mostly offset by the opportunity for test corrections. No test corrections on the final of course, but plenty of EC. He does call on students mid-lecture pretty often but as someone with ADHD I like how that forced me to engage in a class I generally wasn't all that interested in.
AVOID DR. CHO. He can be really nice and funny , but at the end of the day it doesn't really matter when your grade is on the line. His tests look ABSOLUTELY NOTHING like his homework or worksheets and he will assign at least 20-30 homework problems for each chapter. I would not recommend Dr. Cho EVER his class is stupid hard and you will struggle.
Dr Cho is awesome!!!
The good thing is he knows math and statistics well. The bad thing is heavily biased teacher depending on people's race and/or profession. not student-friendly.
Make sure to study and keep up with your work or you will not pass. Not the worst teacher, but if you can find a better math teacher do it. Teaches until the very last minute.
He was simply okay, lectures were kind of messy sometimes and it was a little hard to follow since he teaches very fast so there was little step by step guidance, I really only passed because of Pearson and other sources.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
The professor struggles to adequately cover or teach the material. I was forced to learn material through various online resources as he was either incapable or did not care enough to cover more than just complex definitions of overarching topics during lecture hours. I have never learned less in a 130 minute period than during these lectures.
