Weird accent, can't teach, and hard test. He gives multiple choice for chemistry midterm, with no partial credit. Just think about the odds..
Tricks us too much on midterms. Way too much credit for multiple choice! Come on! We want to pass this course and he is trying to make us fail.
Midterm two killed more than half the class with an class average of 40%....
Eichhorn doesn't seem confident in english, so he's quiet all the time, He will give help if you go to his office, or else visit TA's. The textbook is your best friend, no matter what.
He's an okay teacher, kinda difficult to follow at times.. But his practice tests/final resembled the real thing almost exactly, so if you weren't an idiot and did them with understanding you were guaranteed an A in the class.
SOOOOOOOOOOO CUTE...LOVE THE ACCENT!!! not a good teacher at all- but he has a nice laugh
I got absolutely nothing from his class. Very hard to understand/follow along. Doesn't use powerpoint, very few given notes. I had to go to a different section for most of the semester or else I would've probably failed.
You think this is bad, wait till you get to Spec (if your Chem, or course).
Lectures are incredibly dry, tests didn't really follow the textbook all that well like he said they would, never had enough time for midterms.. take chemistry from ANYONE but him if you can.
Taking the 330 is completely a waste of time. By the end of the class, you haven't learned anything. Also the material in the tests is taken out of nowhere, doesn't cover the lecture material. Boring lectures, very hard tests !!!
He iss the worst prof one can ever get. Having a really bad accent and not knowing students needs is his major problem. He should be sent back to where he came from.
I don't know why all those sad faces, believe me he's not that bad, he actually was extremely helpful especially one on one he is also very approachable and willing to help even during the weekends. The practice final was very similar to the actual one. He is REALLY nice and helpful
cant understand a thing he says...tip..sit at the front of his class if you want to hear a single word
This guy is a great prof. He knows his subject well and is eager and clear and helpful. He is also probably the best-looking prof on campus.
Probably the best prof. I've had so far!!! Very helpful in office hours, and always makes sure their are no questions before moving on! Best guy ever!
Not a bad guy, will help you if you ask him.. Needs to work on his teaching methods (had little to no control over the class). Yes, he has an accent so shutup and LISTEN if you want to get something out of it.. otherwise stay home.. obviously you hear nothing if theres 150 people talking over him!!
very great guy, offered me tea when i went to ask for help in his office
WAY better than johnson. he's so helpful, and a truely good person. his midterms are so easy too. just study the one from the year before.
WOW, when I walked into class and sat down, I thought I was in the wrong class. I thought he was speaking a different language, until I moved up a few seats. For this class, sit in the front if you want to understand what he's saying, otherwise, you will not. Very strong accent. Go see him for help, because then he really explains things simply
very hard to understand at first but once you attend a few classes it's not so bad. he doesn't make the class exciting at all...half the time i slept and half the time I didn't attend class. Read the manual and you will do fine. I aced this class and never paid much attention to the lectures. Do old midterms!
I loved him. He knew what he was doing. He taught really well. Accent was there but it wasn't hard to understand...patience is the key. He was always approachable for help...all you had to do was ask him for it...and he helped.. with a smile.
Good guy and knows what he's talkin about. Very approachable. Is a little hard to understand at first, but I'd trade that for a will to help any day.
avoid taking him!! schmeisser is a lot better, 37% of the class failed (not joking) hes terrible, monotone (no enthusiasm), killer midterm and i studied hard for it and just got 72%
If you are German, you will succeed. I moved to the front of the class and still could not understand him! I am sure he is a very intelligent man, but he CANNOT teach first year students. He is very vague and extremely monotone. Avoid him at all costs! 37% of our class failed the midterm. Statistics speak for themselves.
so hard, eveyrone failed our midterm and hes including it on the final even though hes not our teacher anymore.. the most boring/not understandable person ever. went to his office hrs..he wasnt even there..
AWFUL! he's notes are word-for-word out of the text, he doesn't give examples.. so go for "klicka" questions but leave after..he is hard to understand and his exams are impossible (his midterm failed 33% of the class!) He's so boring and a terrible prof.. especially after having Schmeisser.
One of the nicest profs ull meet. He always has a smile on his face. Super cute. The material is difficult and his midterms are hard, but do all the textbook questions and review the slides and you will be fine.
I absolutely loved him. He does have an accent, but it's not difficult to understand. He's a really smart guy & it's clear that he knows what he's talking about; he's also very approachable for extra help. & unlike my 59140 prof, he actually TAUGHT, and didnt just ramble on about useless things so that was a nice change...Overall, good experience:)
I had to work my ass off for the final and I read a not saying blah...blah... this is pathetic. He said he gave everyone basically 12% on the final, but if his final was easier the class average wouldnt have been 43%.
super thick german accent, boring, and failed 200 people on the final with a 10% curve
His a very nice proff. helpful... his midterm was okay, ppl talk to much and make it a big deal when it was k really... his exam was a killer.. however u can do reallllly good in his class if you do all the questions assigned.... i would take it again and again... good luck :-)
All these comments about how nice he is, are true. He is really nice, but it's not about then niceness, his midterm was really easy, his final was extremely hard. The average was 43 and he curved it by 10%. That should tell you how hard the final really was. Nice guy and everything, but what does that have to do with your grade?
ughhh!! Hes the nicest prof ever but his exams are killer! I had him last year for chem 141 and the midterm was good but the final was rough! It was really bad and i was really nervous taking this course anyway so i studied hard for the final but...it was really difficult! I barely got a good grade because of the labs, loncapa and the midterm.
He is absolutely adorable but it doesn't make up for how impossible his final exam was. I've had him for two classes (not by choice) and had the same bad experience in each.
Although he knows his stuff, Eichhorn is not a very effective speaker and he doesn't cover enough material. Also, this is the first class I have had at the U of W where up to 45 people failed the final. That alone should tell you something. A nice guy, but that has nothing to do with our grades.
If there is another professor teaching this course, switch right away. This professor should not teach a hard class.
Incredibly nice guy, very intelligent, and all though he is very boring in his lecture and almost puts you to sleep, I don't think he is a bad professor. He teaches the concepts well, and he doesn't much room to make the class interesting because at the end of the day it is just organic chemistry. And his exams are FAIR.
His midterm for orgo chem was decent if you studied for it but his final.. you can study for it a year before & feel unprepared. The curve for it a few years back was 45%. So make sure you take advantage of the online assignments and lab reports cause they will definitely help you
Has a German accent but understandable. His teaching is monotone and mediocre but personality-wise he is nice. High course load with lengthy weekly assignments. Brutal exam, fun labs.
He was helpful, although I didn't go to class 23 lectures a week, his final was unreal... But I did well anyways, majority of my class failed
I worked so hard: attended class, attended SOS meetings, and studied my butt off. In the end, barely passed. Labs saved my grade mostly. Midterm and Final - Pray for a miracle. DO NOT TAKE 230 WITH HIM!
I absolutely despised and hated this class more than anything in my entire life. He was the worst professor and his exams were unreal. I recommend taking this course with any other professor if you can because he just unbelievable. On the bright side, it's still possible to pass if you do well in smart work and labs. THANK GOD FOR THOSE.
Dr. Eichhorn is not a bad professor. Instead of spoon-feeding you like a lot of other profs his lectures are tutorial style- if you can keep up with the material the course will be much easier for you. I don't know why people complain that this class is hard. Its a second year university class.. it's supposed to be hard.
This class is not that bad! Very demanding course, that's all. Fair tests. Midterm material is easier than final material though, so make sure you do well on the midterms. It also helps a lot if you go through the chapter before he teaches it. Put the time needed into this course and it won't be too bad
heard this prof was brutal from almost everyone except one of my friends who somehow pulled off a 100. in most honest way to put it, study every day minimum 1-2 hours and u will be fine. alotta ppl fail b/c they study cpl nights before and I PROMISE that can not be accomplished in this class. orgo chem is UNIVERSALLY a hard topic, put in the time!
I had organic chemistry and was terrified before hand. Don't listen to what people say. This prof knows his stuff he teaches well and will meet you half way. Go to class and answer as many question in class as possible even if they are all wrong. Yes you have to study more than you've studied for any other class but it can be an easy A.
Arguably the most terrible prof I have ever had... his exams are unreal. You have two options in his class: teach yourself or do awful. However, despite his bad teaching, he is actually a very nice guy to talk to and surprisingly willing to try and help.
Nice and knowledgeable. First, be familiar with his speaking, pre-read textbook before class, and practice after class. Everybody great.
Clear presentation. Some accent as well. No more comments.
He is intelligent. For a class, 2-3 hours reading/practice each day is essential, but only attending the class is not enough.
Professor Holger Eichhorn does have some strange ideas that are usually thought to be whismy? It is not bad, if you can follow his idea and self read some related materials. Good marks not only rely on teaching, but also are mentioned to refer to a great self-study, and there's no doubt about that.
I think ending up in this course is to think about terminal result so much as progressive as cumulative and advancing gradually, building things up and changing over time..... We have to attend many classes. Each class needs some hours, every day. Hope for assignment after each class. In the next class, you are able to accomplish some with us.
you can do good in the first and second midterm if you read the textbook. the final exam was a copy-paste from the past year's finals. the prof id really not helpful, probably 40% of the student drooped the class to take it with another prof
When I met and talked with him for the first time, I could understand him very well. A little German accent, but good speaking. Nice and ready to help. His knowledge is extensive.
As an environment student, I hope a professor has very good English speaking. The key is to focus on and pay attention to each lecture in class, some reading and more understanding as well, and then interest will grow. I also wish he won't give very tough final exam.
All professors have their own policy. I don't think he is a bad professor. His exam is fair.
People say this is one of the hardest courses you'll take. It's actually not a difficult course it just requires a lot of time. You have to read ahead of time to be familiar with terminology, it helps understand all the details he refers to and uses with his reasoning. He's the nicest prof I've ever had and is happy to help if you go to him.
Good guy, fun accent, not the best prof. Go to class to stay on track but the majority of the work has to come from you. If you leave you studies until the last minute you wont do well. This class requires a lot of motivation but if you study every week and keep up you'll do well. There is also a pretty good curve in this class.
This was not an easy class, and required a lot of extra work and motivation to do well. Eichhorn seems to care about his students but does not teach the material well at all, and specified that he teaches for a 70%. The first midterm was easy but the second and the final were difficult, take it with another prof if you can.
was just simply horrible. His lectures are pointless. Most people cheat on labs, and doesn't do anything about it. Didn't understand anything he said in lecture. AVOID taking this class with this prof
A very nice guy, but unfortunately simply can't teach. Stopped going to lectures after the 2nd midterm, managed to teach myself from the textbook. Make sure to do old midterms and his tutorials.
He is clearly very intelligent and he tries his best to explain concepts, but he is ridiculously soft-spoken even with the mic attached to his shirt. It was difficult to understand anything he said, but he's better to talk to during office hours. I'll be honest, you might wanna enroll in another section if you want your lectures to be worth it.
Part of being a teacher is the ability to teach knowledge to other people. The material isn't hard, yet he mumbles the whole time. Would never take this professor again.
If you are taking this professor, get ready to study the material by yourself. He knows the material, but he is not clear enough to explain it.
He is incredibly hard to understand in lecture and has no interest in the material he is teaching. You essentially will have to teach yourself the entire course by reading the textbook. I would recommend taking the course with any other prof if possible.
very nice guy!!!!!!
His lectures can be very quiet so if you're looking to pay attention sit in the front of class. Tests are very fair and marking is also lenient.
He is a really nice and polite guy. He really does help you out. Hes a little soft spoken but that doesnt mean his not interested. Take effort and Im sure you wont face a problem. Hes a real gem!
To succeed in his class u have to do most of all the practice questions in the textbook and do all the practice exams, bc they will be similar to the real ones. Going to class was useless but does give hints of whats gonna be on the exam. It was 2 15% midterms, 45% final, 20% lab, and 5% hwk.Don't worry too much if u fail ur first exam, its normal.
Very nice guy and is always willing to help. He is extremely quiet and soft spoken which makes it difficult to understand him during lectures.
Dr. Eichhorn was a very soft-spoken professor which made his lectures less valuable. If you ever need to approach him to ask questions, he is accommodating and has no issue helping through problems and reexplaining. To do well, reading the textbook was extremely helpful, as well as the practice exams, as they are very similar to the actual tests.
him being a quiet and muffled talker is one thing, but everyone in the lecture talks over him and doesnt listen. it took him like three months to start telling people to be quiet. lectures are terrible, and i heard dutton is just as bad because he goes on tangents. do the homework thats given. what i found helped me a lot were the pals sessions.
First few lectures were so bad that I didn't attend for the rest of the semester. Maybe it got better, but I couldn't say. Goes through examples without explaining, just doing. He's quiet so you gotta sit near the front. Partly not his fault, but the entire lecture hall of students talked through the entire thing, and made it impossible to focus.
Honestly one of the most confusing professors I have ever had. His lectures are not clear. I only did well because I stopped going to lectures and read the book on my own.
Never taking him again
Dr. Eichhorn has a slight accent that can be adapted to, but overall is a great professor and is very kind! For first midterm, he was very fair and nice when approached for mark reevaluation. In class, he explained things very in depth and cracks a funny joke every once in a while! Would for sure recommend to attend lectures! He`s great!!! :)
Started off the semester poorly, was hard to follow along and he made a lot of the "what should've been review from high school" more confusing than it should be. Was slowly getting better as the semester went on. Nice guy but just not the best at explaining the material.
Dr Eichhorn is a very kind professor however his lectures are beyond terrible. His accents are hard to hear and his tone is super weak too. Midterm are easy if you just skip class and self learn using textbook. Final is also super easy. All the midterms and final are (nearly) identical to previous years. Labs are horrendous so better lock in.
Could not understand the guy at all and the lectures were horrible. Ended up deciding to not go to lectures and read out of the textbook.
Dr. Eichhorn doesnt speak very clearly and speaks very slow, its almost impossible to stay focused on the class. his slides are also very disorganized and lack information. textbook is your best bet for studying. Labs are kinda rough but if you have a good GA you'll be fine. either lock in or study on your own
I literally stopped going to class and just got a tutor instead because first, you can hear him, second, you can't understand him, and third, when you ask a question, he leaves you feeling more confused than before. You're most likely doomed if you have to take a class with him. Just get a tutor and pray when taking this class.
Really sweet prof, but you will not be able to understand him. Its not even due to the accent, he is just a really big mumbler (which he said himself on the first day). If you really focus then maybe you may understand but its honestly not even worth it. Don't trust him if he says something is not on the midterm as someone who sadly did.
Quiet, monotone, and mumbles. See if you can attend another prof's lectures, or read the textbook every week. Sample problems are a must, so again, see if you can find another prof's videos. Exams are fine if you know the material and practice. Labs can be hard, so be ready. This semester (25F) they had an AI mark everything, which sucked a lot.
Prof Eicchorn is a very soft spoken professor which makes it harder to understand him in the lectures, so I would suggest sitting at the front , mumbles frequently which makes it near impossible to hear anything, and don't go to the lectures, just look at the textbook if you want to pass. He is approachable after class however if u have questions
absolutely horrible
Very respectful and sweet, but he is soft spoken and mumbles a lot. Students couldn't tell that he asked a question until he stops and stares and that's how we figured out. He doesn't even know whats on the exam. Do textbook questions since lectures are pointless. Labs are hard depending on the GA. Good luck.
