She drowns you with homewk, online hm wk (even on days off), and loads of practices. She goes through everything really fast. HOWEVER she does re-writes on quizes and exams which can help bring your grade up.
yes she drowns you with homework & has no synpathy sure she lets u re-do test & quizes but in order 2 get ur grade replaced u have 2 get a 100% on the re-write or else u can have a lower grade than what you 1st received. She makes us have reflective journals wste of time! doesnt answer quetions nd is rude DNT TAKE HER CLASS save urself b4 is 2 L8!!

Yes she does give tons of homework, yes it's on your "days off", however, this is college and you should be able to handle these types of responsibilites. It is all for the best interest of your education! Trust me you will leave the class with A LOT of knowledge! Dison challenges you, and she has no tolerance for immaturity.

Her materials are vague, unorganized, &hard to follow. Her lectures are messy yet hard to grasp until you see her during office hours. Too much hw, yes, but is needed for calc. Calculus must have professors that can explain the concepts well enough for students to understand. Professors should also show compassion for what they do. She lacks it
Holly will leave people behind. In class, everything was unclear. It almost seams like she expects you to know the subject allready! She moves on even though more than half the class don't understand! Even the smart students were struggling! She loads you up with homework and she gives you rewrites for your tests but it just makes the score lower!
Holly is the energizer bunny. She talks sooo fast! But it is impossible to fail this class if you do every assignment. This is a college level math class and there is a ton of homework but she gives you unlimited attempts at homework and you can keep going until you get 100%. this combined with rewrites on tests is a guaranteed C or better.
She gives a lot of homework with so little time and has a highschool teacher mentality. She makes you print out your own notes and fill them in in class or from her ppt's online. She makes you waste a lot of paper (definately not a class to take if you're trying to be green). Gets kind of annoyed and impatient when people ask a lot of questions.
Massive amounts of homework. Hardly clear, and gets annoyed easily. Dont ever expect to get an A on a test or assignment she is ruthless when grading. No leeway on written assignments, her way or the highway.
Terrible! Ms. Dison gives massive amounts of homework, she is unreliable, barely ever shows on a test day for support, unclear and will leave you behind in class if you do not understand. Asking her a question is a mistake, she is already annoyed before you can speak the words. DO NOT ENROLL IN HER COURSE. Take this warning & choose someone else!!
She is rude and treats her students like children. The homework is massive 20 hrs wk. She seems to have a resentment toward the class and students. There is no questioning her, very little instruction and mandatory tutoring required. Worst semester of my career 100+ credit hours. Consider yourself warned!

Honestly I have no idea how she still has her job. She was late for her own class on numerous occasions (showed up 25minutes late once), teaches her PREMEDIAL class as if all this mathematical info is something that should be easily understandable, treats the class like it's still HS, requires 4 hours of mandatory tutoring, etc DO NOT ADVISE TAKING
Taking Calculus with her is hard. She expects you to know your Algebra front and back. You will work hard and must seek help from the math center, other students, or from her office hours. She does not give a whole lot of one on one help in class. One on one is great in her office, she will explain anything you ask.
Highly unprofessional, often making rude comments to students. Very bad teacher overall. You never get to see grades unless you go to office hrs. She is unhelpful. All work is done online. My biggest mistake was taking her class, I wish I would have dropped. Her fail rate is very high. Basically, anyone who takes her regrets it.
Ms. Holly Dison class is very tough but if you just do all of the online hw(Which gives you videos and is easy)and after her class you will have no problem in MAT121. MAT121 will be very easy to you.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!! 4 hours of mandatory tutoring before EVERY exam. Online homework almost every night and she would give 4 different sections over weekends. Completely rude to students. Had assigned seats. You're expected to fill in you fill in the blank NOTES at home before she teaches it. Stupid class, hated it. At least i passed!
When her name comes to my mind, I flinch. Every day I was terrified at the lesson that she was about to give, because I knew it would be very complex. Every lecture i felt like i was learning how to re-structure DNA
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS I WARN YOU NOW! She talks 100 miles a minute, she treats all her students as if they are highschoolers and does not care about the success of her students. She accused tons of her students for cheating, she talks down to you and will treat you like you are stupid. Do yourself a favor and do not take her class.
DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS! She talks down to people. Last Semester out of a class of 24 students only 9 passed. She will fail you and she doesn't care. She will answer questions after class during her office hours. But her tests are SEVERAL pages long and the test material is HARDER than the homework or class material. Take an online class instead.
By far the worst math teacher at EMCC. The tests are so much more difficult than the classwork, review, and homework. Calc 3 is a 4 credit class and she makes it so much more harder than it is. If you spelled a word wrong on an quiz/exam she would mark you off points IN A MATH CLASS. Don't take this class with her unless she's your only option.
In a nutshell, she does not create a classroom environment conducive to learning. Her grading is inconsistent at best (ie two identically worked equations graded differently). She basically expects you to learn everything on your own and then holds you to ridiculous standards on HOW it is done, even if you get the same answer, it has to be her way.
I took two semesters of calculus with Holly Dison. She is very challenging, but also helpful if you take the time to see her in office hours. She provides homework answer keys! She can be a harsh grader, but what math teacher isn't?? I prefer her own notes than the textbook and I am still using the skills I learned today in higher courses.

Holly is a great teacher.She does a great job of providing instruction and examples during class. Her class is not an easy A, but you will learn a great amount and it will prepare you for future classes. If you put forth the effort, you will learn a great deal. Holly is one of the best professors I have had the pleasure of taking classes with.
Learned a lot. I felt confident in her class till the end. But I still passed! My friends and I had a great time. Pay attention because Holly talks fast! Review the notes and the answer keys that she posts. Homework has very helpful videos. She appreciates positive people that speak up to answer questions and ask questions ;)
Holly is a good professor! This is college level work so don't think it's a walk in the park. You must work and study to pass her class, and you must do the assignments or she will quick you out. About half the class failed or dropped but they didn't show any interest in class. Show interest and do your work and you will learn a lot in her class.
Mrs. Dison is a good teacher, but if you don't like to work a lot i wouldn't recommend taking this class. There is 4 hours of required tutoring before each test but a HUGE plus is for each test an homework assignment she offers rewrites and they help a lot.
She was tough. Hard grader, wouldn't tell me my grade in the class- told me I needed to calculate it. I did all the work, studied- even more than the required tutoring- and I still struggled. Some of the methods she used the tutors were not familiar with. I left feeling more confused about math especially towards the end.
The way Holly Dison teaches concepts in maths is very confusing, with few examples, and wants to see who understands the material by using a pop quiz. She gives out alot of homework, usually up to 5 hours worth after each class. On tests, you must answer the questions only the way she taught you or she will mark off points. Worst math teacher ever
If math does not come easy for you do not take with Mrs. Dison. Class is fast paced and if you have a question you should go for tutoring help because she rarely answers questions in class. The test require you to write out step by step explanations on how you solved problems. Even if problem is correct, if a step is wrong you get deducted points.
I'm not very fond of her way of teaching. She assigns lots of notes, worksheets, and online homework for you to do outside of class and you basically teach yourself everything. You're better off going to tutoring regularly to have the tutor teach you instead. Dison basically makes you go to class just to go over notes and answer questions.
Ms. Dison is a very good teacher if you're involved in class. She expects students to act like adults and take an active role in their education. She will sit and review a topic with you for as long as possible. She tries to make connections with her students and yes, she requires a LOT of work, but you're almost guaranteed to know the material.
tests are very tough! She is an extremely tough grader and wants thing to be EXACTLY the way she taught it. She assigns a lot of work! and there is almost 1 pop quiz per week! As long as you pay very close attention, do every single assignment, and ask questions this class is doable! But I will never be taking one of her classes again.
This class is not for the lazy. You'll have homework almost every night and tests left and right. She gives lots of notes and random pop quizzes and everything has to be exact to what she wants. She's a really cool person if you get to know her (ask about her aerial acrobatics), but her teaching style isn't for someone who can't teach themselves.
This class was extremely hard because basically you teach yourself , take notes at home, do the homework at home. You only show up to class to go over the same exact notes you did and she literally just reads over them doesn't really add much to it. She's a cool person but her teaching style is just not the best.
I you ask questions expect to be embarrassed in class or just completely ignored. She gives tons of buzy work and notes are not helpful for tests in class or on mathas videos. She likes to give trick questions on quizez the first 4 weeks. This teacher lives to see you fail. Half the class dropped by the 5 week. she was expecting .
Dison is hard and will make you work your butt off, but in the end you are more way more prepared than other students in your next class. She replaces your worst test with your Final which is much easier than the rest of her tests. I had a D going into the Final, but got a B in the class.
This class is really tough at the start, but Ms Dison went over all of the info in class that we needed to do the work. I liked the online homework because I could do the problem over if I got it wrong. Also the worksheets cover a wide range of problems and having the answers at the bottom makes it easier to see if you are doing it right.
I took Mat 121 this semester after having Ms Dison for Mat 091 last semester. Me and a couple other people from her class took the same Mat 121 class and we all did WAY better than the other people in the class. There is a method to her madness. Even though she's hard and makes you work, you will definitely know your stuff when you get out!!
Hands down, worst instructor ever taken. I am a straight A student and this is my first C. I was 0.2% away from having a B and she would not curve it. This class is not easy, she gives way too much homework, you learn everything OUTSIDE of the classroom. Would not recommend this instructor to anyone. If you see this instructor for a class, RUN!
I hate math, but I actually understood some stuff in this class, and she says stuff you don't expect that is hilarious! Show up and do ALL the homework, even if you don't get it, you still get credit, so you'll pass.
The most unhelpful teacher I have even had. There is no textbook for the class & you learn with videos from external website. You take your own notes from these videos & they are different from how she explains in class. Mandatory tutoring in order to take tests. Tutors are unable to help w/ homework. You are truly on your own w/ her. She wont help
I gave Dison the benefit of the doubt after reading everyone's tough rates and I shouldn't have. Be ready to teach yourself all of the material and a lot of tedious work not only online but in her work book. If you have the opportunity to switch out don't second guess yourself, just do it. You're better off taking an online math course than her.
This class had to be one of the hardest math classes I took. My Calc2 teachers said Calc2 is the hardest. Particularly my class, 90% of us are failing, and I will most likely drop. As a PTK honors student, this class requires so much online note taking so basically was an online class. The grading was awful and no constructive teaching. Turn away!
She makes everything more complicated than it needs to be. Posts hw online without letting the class know.
She honestly did not teach me a single thing. Three weeks before finals, we were given 6 units to complete,it usually takes about a week to fully process one unit. 85% of the material is all online so you would be better off doing an online class because you are basically teaching yourself. Do yourself a favor and DON'T take Dison!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ok, First if you are a cry baby, please do yourself a favor and DO NOT!! take this class, you will be crying rivers!!. she explain super fast!! you will learn from tutoring and videos. make sure you stay on top of her updating grades because she wont do it. she will make you go to mentoring bull meetings for "credit" and she wont post the credit.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!! She is a very nice individual but she does not know how to teach. EVERYTHING you learn will be online so might as well take a online math class. She does not know how to teach and she makes learning really hard. I had to retake this class and the other professor was 10000xxxxx better at teaching.
Questions are interrupted and students point of view is over run by hers. Grades HEAVY, if student is not organize i.e. 5% marked off for not stapling hw/5% marked off for no LAST name on HW. Most of the learning is online through third party website; gives hw that has not been previously taught in class setting. Practically an online class.
I never understood anything had to look up every thing online on youtube to teach myself so much homework she went to fast on lessons and no one really understood what was being taught but a good person in all but not so good teacher
A professor should take pride in wanting to teach her students and wanting them to learn. If you want to have a better understanding of math and be taught correctly without having a "what the heck just happened" face. I strongly advise you not to have Holly Dison as your professor in any courses of math. You'll regret it. I know I do.
Holly Dison will help you as much as she can, so if youre willing to put in the effort you will learn a lot. However, you will have to put in a LOT of effort and shes nitpicky about small things like papers being the same size or skipping lines between problems when doing them on loose leaf paper. You will lose points for not being organized.
Holly Dison teaches at a pace that is very difficult, but this class will teach you a lot if your willing to learn. She is not here to babysit you and neither are any of the other instructors. Observations that I made convinced me that young students are used to receiving handouts. DO NOT EXPECT THAT HERE. You get what you put in.
She is THE Worst for many reasons. Mostly because she creates a hostile learning environment. Do not take her.
Dropped class. Know several people who have done the same and made complaints about her rudeness/attitude. Anxiety in class is palpable. Silence of fearful class met with "this isn't elementary school!". Should NOT be teaching 091, people who struggle and have math anxiety. Lots of students drop her class.
Holly Dison is by far the WORST teacher i have had at EMCC the Two years ive been . She is RUDE and seems to like to argue and make you feel stupid if you dont understand her insane teaching methods. She is very cynical and sarcastic. I spent MORNING until NIGHT at tutoring center they taught me everything she SHOULD have been teaching her class.
This instructor is very tough, she moves at a fast pace, speaks quickly and seems to confuse the whole class. Students dropped like flys in her class. There was a total of 4 students on last day. This instructor is not willing to help you and if you do ask for help she is condescending and down right rude. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!
The most unhelpful, patronizing, rude professor Ive ever had. Gives extremely sarcastic answers to legitimate questions and goes out of her way to make you feel stupid. Nitpicks over the tiniest details - it is IMPOSSIBLE to get a perfect score on anything, and wants so many unnecessary steps written down for simple problems. Stay away from her.
Mandatory Tutoring/Limited Office Hours/Doesn't respond to emails/Fast-Paced/Entire Lesson based on Formulas/Attendance a Must!/Tough Grader, even on items you added that she didn't ask for. Makes it easy to lose points. Didn't put enough information? You'll lose points for that also. ***Would not recommend her.
Dison can be described as just plain rude. It seems like she goes out of her way to make you feel stupid. My class started at full occupancy with over 30 students I think and needed with about 10. Not only were students dropping but she was encouraging them to all year. I got an A in the course, but had to rely on myself to teach me more than her.
This teacher is rude beyond believe. If you have difficulties in math but you have to take this class... do yourself a favor find a better teacher. She is overloading in homework assignments and unreasonable in grading. Even if you did your home work she always criticizes, belittles and makes sarcastic jokes about the student,.HORRIBLE TEACHER
Horrible, absolutely horrible. If you want an A or B don't take this class. If you want a C that's unlikely. Basically if you want a D or F take this class.
If you're not willing to put the work in after class and pay attention 120% in class, you will not get the grade you desire. I been out of school for a couple years but my mentality was if I didn't receive an A I would fail. I spent time studying outside of class and that made the difference come test days. Be ready to work. If I did it so can you.
Instructor expects students to complete loads of work in a little bit of time. Not considerate towards students time (work, other classes, etc). Moves very fast during lessons. Not the nicest person.
Professor Dison is hands down the worst professor ever. She gives homework, quizzes, and tests over material that has not yet been taught or explained very poorly and expects you to teach yourself how to do it. I have emailed her for help she tells me to ask my classmates who also dont understand the material. STAY AWAY AND DO NOT TAKE HER CLASSES

This professor was good at explaining the subject. She was helpful for tutoring. There were a ton of quizzes and homework. Overall was a pretty good professor.
She is fair, she goes fast, but so many tools to help you learn, she allows questions. Plus their is a embedded tutor. So lots of help. But be prepared for homework almost every night.
Class is hardcore. She is very specific (all mentioned in syllabus and hw assignments etc). She makes random jokes- I thought they were funny. If you look confused in class, she will keep trying to help you understand it . Always encouraged students to come to her office hours to go over material if you still don't get it.
The final only covered one unit, meaning 90% of what she had us do isn't even on the final. My only positive is that she may grant extensions. She offers help but she is very condescending and rude when you do. If you don't get a 90% on the homework she marks it as a 0. it's either you have to completely understand it or don't bother trying at all.
PLEASE WHATEVER YOU DO AVOID THIS INSTRUCTOR. I was laughed out of her class because I missed one assignment that was required to stay enrolled even though I work full time and go to school full time. She belittled me in front of the whole class and kicked me out over one assignment.

You get homework every night and you're expected to get 90% on it for credit. The final was mostly nothing she has taught us. It was a hard class overall. This has to be hands down the worst teacher I have ever had in all my years of school. If you want to hate your life, this is your teacher. You have to get 90% of some assignments just to be able to get a grade if not then its just a straight ZERO!!! If you are not a big group project person well she forces you do do a group assignment EVERY CLASS!
If u take this class be prepared to teach yourself. Holly was a horrible teacher. Goes quickly through the work and doesn't let anyone ask questions and you have to rely on peers for help. To her if you don't get it that's your fault. The way she makes a simple easy math class so hard is beyond me. I'm assuming they just hire anyone at this point.
As an education major, I've been given the amazing opportunity to know the ins and ours of what makes an amazing teacher. Holly Dison fails to meet any expectations I had in that department. Classes were 90% lecture and 10% confused group work. When students express confusion or ask for clarification, Holly Dison belittles them in a joking manner.
She was very helpful and always available to help.
I unfortunately did not get the AP credit from AB Calculus, so I chose her as a last resort to get my MAT141 credit for nursing. The material is very simple, but oh my days she makes it very complicated for my classmates. I suggest you take a different professor if you have a difficult time in mathematics.

Got mad at the cass and scolded us for not knowing assignment before our first class. Did orientation showing i knew how to use the website ,and she deleted my grade for the finished test then kicked me out of class. Told me another test I took she gave a 0 because she claimed I was late. The website said the date was on time ,but I got a 0.
By far the WORST INSTRUCTOR don't enroll in this class at not only does she not give you credit if you get a 90% or higher but she's extremely rude. I'm a DRS student as well and when i tried to use my acommdiation in her class she called me a cheater and then lied when i called her out on it like true P.O.S and then denied it as well
She is a very hard grader and if you have any questions ask in the beginning and make sure you complete every assignment.
Well versed in what the course needs to teach, but she is strong minded and will call you out if you're slacking or being lazy. There was work needed to be done daily but it's manageable, definitely harder for those with full time jobs and anything else outside of school. Great teacher overall with a little attitude.
