Very easy class just boring. All her lectures are power point, very little homework. If you study for the test you will get an A. She is very nice, and helpful.
holly, is a very nice teacher but loves the sound of her own voice. she has a tendency o drone on and on and on about the most boring stuff. not much class participation. she does not engage the class to learn, and could improve in that aspect.
Holly = GREAT! Easy class! GO 2 CLASS AND TAKE THE NOTES! She tells you EVERYTHING that will be on the test, then curves an avg of 20 points off when you’re done! Class is mainly PowerPoint notes, but are half ALREADY TYPED OUT in a packet she gives every week. No projects, no homework & LOTS of EC!
I took Geology lab with her last semester. Great teacher, but gave a lot of work for a 1 unit class. Still, she was patient and would really take the time to explain something you didn't understand. One of the most approachable professors I've had, very friendly; and very knowledgeable.
She really knows everything about the subject matter...lectures in the lab a little quick and throws a ton of information at you. She will make the tests harder than they appear because there’s a lot of extra credit available!
This class is a breeze if you show up to class and study. The only outside homework is reading the chapters and bringing in newspaper articles. Dodson speaks quickly, but is very informative and passionate about Earth Science.
This teacher rocks~! I had a hard time with all of the information and she took time to meet with me out side of class on her time to help me, truely a devoted professor! I still only got a C, but science really is not my thing, if u have to take science then this is the teacher to take it with. Lectures are good too, they are all on power point.

I'm in the middle of the term with her, and am failry impressed so far. She gives little homework, but quite a bit of extra credit so far. Quizzes are simple, and she will give you the answers while you're taking it if you ask her. Great teacher.
Holly is awesome! Very helpful, explains things so that everyone can understand them. Great on field trips! Highly recommend this instructor for both lab and lecture Geology courses.
Holly is a true "sexy '67"....awesome professor, clear teaching methods. Nothing bad to say! She has a ton of experience that she brings to the classroom and seems more like a friend than the "dictator"....I would recommend her classes to anyone.
great professor. she explains everything great. helps out on any questions you have. gives quizzes if ppl are tardy, but she gives them more as a reward for ppl who show up on time by giving you the answers. easy +10 pts a day. tests are long but the knowledge is in your head from her lectures so moderately easy. great teacher to have.
Holly was a great teacher. She explained things thoroughly. She provided notes, all you had to do was show up and fill in the notes. If you studied the things on the study guide you will do very well. Don't get me wrong, she's not easy, and her tests aren't either, but if you study, show up everyday, you'll do fine.
Holly is an awesome teacher. She explains everything thoroughly. She provides all the notes, all you have to do is show up and fill in the blanks. She offers lots of extra credit, is always willing to answer questions, and always gives out a study guide before exams with EVERYTHING on the test and grades on a curve. Take anything taught by Holly!
This teacher knows what she is teaching, unlike Stevens who doesn't have a clue why she got a degree in earth science. Holly is very clear, open minded. She is very fair, gives lots of extra credit, curves all tests, so if you gotta C, it'll change to a B. Open notes quizzes, easy in class assigments. Extremel helpful! what more can i say!
Holly is an excellent teacher. Has great experience in her field which reflects in her lectures. She made a subject I thought to be boring very interesting. I would highly recommend her. Rewards students by providing many easy assignments (in class) that are easy points as long as you show up for class. Lots of Extra Credit. Great!!!
Tests are extremely hard and the class is boring. I am an A/B student and got a C in her class just because of the tests. All you do in class every day is take notes all day long.
Totally hot! Hard to concentrate on class she's so hot! Very knowledgable about the course content and has practical experience to back it up. Best Geology/Earth Science teacher at Sierra. Friendly and always willing to help you but also expects you to know the content of the class. Holly would be my first choice! Did I mention that shes HOT?
She's very nice. i enjoyed her class. just take notes.
I got an "A" in her class but her voice is the same as her personality, monotonous. Tests are hard. Quizzes are easy because they're open-note. PowerPoints every single day. All notes are in premade packets so you have almost everything you need for tests. Almost no homework. I was lucky enough to sit by some friendly girls to pass the time. *smirk
Best Science teacher I have ever had. I have never understood or cared about science before, but Holly is a great teacher and has a lot of experience in her field, which makes the class a lot of fun. If I ever have to take another science class again, it will be with her.
Holly is one of the best teachers I have ever had. Her power points make it easy to follow along with the lecture. So don't waste money buying the book. Her class was fairly easy, take her...she knows what sh'e talking about
Great teacher. Very helpful with anything you need. Class is mandatory to attend. Powerpoints are easy to understand and she has packets made and you fill them out. Great personality and a fun teacher all around.
Holly is so awesome. She's so helpful and willing to answer any questions. Dont buy the book, you dont need it. She is so funny and makes class really interesting. I can't rate her high enough, she is one of the best teachers I have ever had. Study and show up and class is cake.
secret to success: show up, dont be late, take notes, dont fall asleep, dont txt, study hard before tests. she really likes to know how well you retain information. she is really down to earth and has a geologist sense of humor. i recomend her highly!
She is a great teacher! Very helpful when you need it. The subjects in class are very very boring, that is the only bad part about taking her class. Easy A/B grade.
Holly is an awesome teacher. Science is not my best and not my favorite subject, but I got good grades on all of the tests and used all of my extra credit oppertunites. She is so understanding and willing to help at ALL TIMES.
She's an awesome teacher! She'll take all the time in the world to help you out and always gives your graded papers back to you the next class if not the same day. I took her for Earth Science and she was great!

Her teaching style is phenomenal. She is helpful, caring, passionate about teaching, and well deserves teacher of the year award. She elaborates terms well, so most students understand the subject material better. ES10 has much material to cover, so keep classmate conversations minimal and no texting and you will deff absorb the material. TY Hly
Holly is a very good professor who is passionate about teaching and does everything she can to help her students learn. She gives in-class assignments and quizzes, so attendence is mandatory. Do not be late either or you do not get a quiz. Her tests are really hard! You need to study!
AWESOME TEACHER!!! She tells you EXACTLY what is on the test and offers TONS of extra credit. She does inclass quizzes and assignments which you can use both the teacher and the other students BUT if you show up late or miss class you can not make it up. So show up!
She really dumbs down the class so anyone can get it. Don't make the mistake I did and take a geology class to get science credits out of the way, it's so boring I had trouble staying awake and most students kept looking back at the clock waiting for it to be over. She's a nice teacher, but not even she could help me get an A in such a dull class.
One of the best and easiest teachers i've ever had. Just put in the effot and it's an easy A. Had the higest grade percentage all semester long. TONS of extra credit opportuniies. Willing to help anyone whosturggles. Interesting personal stories n her lecture. A MUST TAKE TEACHER!! Even if it's just for fun!!!
Great teacher. Tells you what she expects right from the start. Good amount of Extra Credit. Textbook use is at a minimum...I think mine is still in its shrink-wrap. If you don't sleep during class and can remember stuff from lectures, take her.
Really good teacher! She is so passionate about what she is teaching so even if rocks don't seem to interesting she makes it a lot more fun. Its an easy A as long as you pay attention. Her tests are really long but you actually learn stuff!
Holly is very passionate about what she teachers. Extremely knowledgable. All you have to do is go to class all the time, takes notes, and study for the tests. seems pretty easy, and it is! just try and you will do great. I really enjoyed her class. She is funny. Take her for lab as well!
Holly is the kindest and most amazing teacher! She took a pretty basic class and got me so interested, so much so I got an A. If you keep up the on the excellent outlines and do the study guides you're set, she doesn't give you anything you won't need! Highly recommend!
Holly is awesome! I was not excited to take Geology, but she made it so fascinating! I would recommend taking the lab class as well, it makes it easier to understand what is being said in lecture. I got a 102% in lab and a 94% in lecture. She is easy, fun, and clear in her lectures. She uses lots of good metaphors too so its easy to understand.
Holly is a great teacher! She is very clear and helpful. Her class is not very hard and she answers all of her students questions. I only wish I tried harder. Take her for a good science class.
Professor Dodson is a great teacher! She loves geology and is super nice! Her tests are not bad at all as long as you study her material! A great class and very interesting!
holly is awesome. just ask her for help and she's with you all the way. I just wish she taught the lecture because I struggled with hilton. she is the nicest person and WANTS to help you, so ask her. plus her dog will keep you company while you're hard at work.
Ms Dodson is an amazing teacher who makes not-so-interesting topics easy to understand. She used to work for NASA so her credibility is amazing. She doesn't expect everyone in the class to be on her level educationally and makes side jokes that are pretty funny. Great teacher I highly recommend :)
Holly is a very good teacher. Her lectures are very interesting. Class is always fun, and I always leave feeling like I've learned something of real importance each day. Tests aren't hard at all as long as you attend class. Her lectures teach you everything. Very little homework. I'm trying to get her for a lab teacher.
I didn't have an interesting going into this class. BUT as the semester went on all the material she taught was very interesting. She has great analogies for you to understand the material. Barely any homework at all and the tests are very easy as long as you study them. She posts all the lectures online so if you need help just refer on blackboar
Took for into to geology, Great class!! I don't care about rocks, and it was hard to stay awake, but she makes it as painless as possible. Offers ample extra credit, tests are easy if you follow study guides, overall great teacher!!!
You couldn't ask for a better teacher! Seriously, Holly represents what is best in both scientists and educators. She is easy to understand while being highly capable in her career. I love going to her class and seeing what has been planned for the lecture. I will definitely be seeking her courses in the future.
Went on the weekend field geology trip to Eastern Sierra Volcanoes. Excellent experience. I would have never gone to these places if it weren't for Sierra College and Prof. Dodson.
Pretty good teacher.I'm not a science person and for me her lectures got very boring and a lot of info. Her tests were really difficult for me not multiple choice it was write out and explain your answer and fill out charts. She gave us in class assignments and quizzes which were on the test so study those!Ended up with good grade. She is very nice
Holly is an excellent teacher. She makes the material interesting even if you are not a science major. She gives a lot of extra credit and is very helpful. She wants you to enjoy science and goes out of her way to relate it to the outside world. Study handouts/in-class assignments and the three tests are cake. Too bad she isn't the lab professor.
This class was amazing and Holly is such an approachable and fair professor. Tests can be tricky but she gives a good study guide. Take advantage of the school's free tutoring too. Really helped with going over the info, a lot of it you'll need to hear and read a few times to get. Great class, great teacher, highly recommend.
Holly's Earth Science 10 class was awesome! Tons of Etra Credit! I am NOT a science person, but she made it interesting. She uses blackboard a lot!Show up to class, pay attention, do your homework. This class can be an easy A!! I am going to try to take another class with her if possible. P.S. I bought the book for this class, but never opened it.
Dont buy book! All the info on tests she lectures about in class. Make sure to take notes, study & show up & you will do good in her class! Gives away easy points with open-note quizzes an in class assignments. Very comical, makes science really fun! Very good resource if you need help with material. Just know she hates tardy & absent people!
Holly is super helpful and is very intelligent. She makes the material understandable and has these great analogies to help you remember the information. She's so kind she went out of her way to let us know what chapters to read depending on what edition of the book we bought to help us save money. Take her you won't regret it.
She's a terrible teacher with terribly confusing analogies! Most of the material that she talks about in class is stuff that is not on the test. She jumps from topic to topic very quickly and doesn't review before tests. She also gives many "pop quizzes"- don't ever think about being late to class because if you're a minute late you don't get one.
Holly is a great professor. She is almost too easy on her students with all the extra credit she gives. I thought this class was very easy, and you don't even really need the book. She pretty much tells you everything that'll be on the exams. Super easy and very nice professor! If you can't handle her, you should probably drop out of college.
She makes confusing analogies! She is very bad at emailing you back and for giving you feedback. She jumps from topic to topic very quickly and doesn't review before tests. I don't understand why so many people told me she was great. Totally the opposite
AWFUL TEACHER. Rude. Swears at the class for no reason. Tests make no sense. Covers material that's not on the test. I don't know why ppl are giving her good reviews. I love science, but hated this class. Treats us like we're middle schoolers. Tests are short answer. Open-note quizzes are a plus. Don't take unless you're a sci major. HORRIBLE CLASS
I took this online. She has lectures on iTunes U, and a weekly quiz (short and easy) and weekly assignments (she basically gives you the answers). Tests are hard, short answer barely any multiple choice. You really have to learn the material but she is so nice, helpful and offers tons of extra credit, wants you to get an A, always emails back fast.
Holly is an awesome teacher. Friendly, goes out of her way to make sure you understand the material. I took her online Earth Science class and would recommend her to others. She offers extra credit which helps if you are struggling. Always reply to emails and even met with us before test to go over and clarify any struggles we were having.
Holly is a great teacher.I was not looking forward to this class, but in the end, I considered it to be my favorite. She makes the lectures interesting and easy to follow. Don't be late to class though, for she won't give you a quiz or test. Great class!
LOVE this class! She's a really good teacher. Crystal clear. Excepts a lot out of you, but if you come to class and pay attention it's easy to get a good grade. She *hates* late people and texters, though, so make sure you don't piss her off and you'll be good. Open note quizzes and in class assignments. My favorite class this semester!
Holly rocks! She is a great teacher and very passionate about her job. Prepares you for tests, no surprises, work hard and you'll get an A
Holly is the most helpful teacher ever. She prepares her students for each test and there are no surprises, but it's a lot of work to study for them. Attendance is mandatory. There are 3 tests and lots of easy in class assignments. The class is very manageable. She also gives tons of extra credit.
Holly Dodson was hands down one of the best professors I've ever had at Sierra College. She is so passionate about her area of expertise that you can help but feel involved. I hated science, I've always hated science, and on the first exam, which is no cake walk! I got the highest grade in the class. Takes some studying but she makes it worth it.
Holly is a fantastic teacher! Easily one of my favorites. She genuinely wants to help you understand the material. There are loads of EC and easy assignments to boost your grade. The lectures and videos help tremendously. Tests are hard but she gives you all the resources you need to ace them. It's up to you to use them. Definitely recommended.
Holly is one of the hardest working professors I have ever come across. To say she is passionate for what she does is an understatement. Tests were hard for me because there was so much material to remember, but she will help in any way she can. She is a super awesome person. Sooo funny even when she is not trying to be.
Shes really good when i comes to giving you extra opportunities in extra credit. She gives modules on canvas that help alot and lets know exactly what will be on the exam! All you really need to do is pay attention and always attend class! i barely studied and passed all exams because the in class assignment and qizes exactly what is on the exams
She is a complete idiot, she clearly doesn't know what an introduction Earth Science class means. Also she goes into obscure topics which don't make sense at times and her humor is dry as a rock. Her test are ridiculously hard to pass even with study and she is so anal about being on time. I was late 2 min and she made me fail my final costing my A
Professor Dodson is pretty funny and very passionate about her field. The class has 3 big exams, numerous in class quizzes and assignments, and tons of extra credit available. The text book isn’t required but you must show up for class. The exams are mostly fill in the blank, so you need to study. She is tough but fair. You’ll learn a lot!
Things with Holly are simple: Listen, take notes, read, and don't be late! If you must be late, all you have to do is tell her, otherwise, she thinks it's rude for you to distract class by your lateness. Tests are monsters, but I left the class with a high A. The people downing her are probably slackers and not ready for college :)
Hybrid class, It was easy but took work! I love Holly she is so funny and super helpful, you just have to ask for it and study. You get what you put in!
Loved her ! The test are on exactly what she says they are. Lots of opportunity for EC. Attendance in absolutely mandatory. She is funny, witty, and adds her own personal experiences to the course.
Took over the summer. Attend the class and study the study guide hard if you want an A. Gives easy homework and plenty of extra credit.
Holly is by far the best teacher I have ever had. I worked hard for my A, but I give her teaching most of the credit. She is really willing to help you when you need it. Take advantage of her study guides, youtube channel, and office hours. This class helped me figure out what I want to major in.
After this semester I'm up to 58 units and the vast majority of them are online and I can honestly say Holly is in the top two or three instructors I've ever taken, in person or online. Her passion for a subject that I don't particularly enjoy made it not only easier to understand, but also interesting, which was more than I'd ever hoped for. Love!
Holly is by far the best teacher I have had at Sierra College (and I have been here for 3 years). You absolutely have to show up to class, or else you will miss a lot. She makes everything easy to understand and offers plenty of extra credit. You have to study for this class, but if you do you will absolutely pass this class with an A. TAKE HOLLY!
Holly is a great teacher, she's really clear and helpful. You absolutely must be present in class, she will drop you and you will miss important material. She provides note outlines and detailed handouts that are extremely helpful. Totally recommend her if you are willing to actually work!
The class was fun, I did learn a lot. Holly knows her stuff but she can be immature at times. She gives out many, many quizzes and in-class assignments throughout the semester so make sure to come to class every day. She does have tons of extra credit opportunities so DO THEM, they will help because the exams are killer.
I had her for intro to Geo. Good things: she's not boring and what she teaches in class is what you will be tested on so KEEP ALL HANDOUTS. Those handouts are what half the test is about. I failed my 1st exam because i didn't know that but then i just used those to study and Aced my next two. Bad: she cares about attendance
All I can say about holly is very knowledgeable in the subject(S) she teaches. She has been teaching many years and has mastered her profession! If you take her class you are going to LEARN earth science. There is no cheating your way through this class or barely getting by! I believe that is the best thing about her classes! you actually LEARN
I absolutely HATED this class!!! Lectures are so boring. Unless you like learning about dirt, rocks, and streams then it will be hard. Holly knows what she's talking about and she's very helpful, but if you're not interested in this subject then it will be pretty tough. Everything on the test and quizzes are from lecture
Prof. Dodson is awesome!! She really wants you to succeed, and her lectures on iTunes are very helpful. She also has YouTube videos. The tests are all stuff that she goes over very thoroughly. The videos, reading, and homework prepare you for the tests. I found this class challenging but in a good way. You must do the reading!!!
Be advised, Professor Dodson does NOT admonish the integrity of this course by allowing you to take this class entirely online. She wants people to come in person to the campus thrice during the semester to take exams, irrespective of their disabilities or prior engagements. She also won't put this info on the course page beforehand, very insulted!
Whats the point of taking it online if you have to come to campus for the test? Her test are not multiple choice and they are hard because she basically has you reading the entire book out of order and guessing what she will include. Study guide consists of a list of chapter headings - its a joke. Don't know how she is in class but dont take online
Holly is an awesome teacher! she is such a good teacher!! you can tell she's super passionate about science, she's also very funny! She won't put up with late walk in, texting, talking, etc. She let's you know EXACTLY what you need to know for the exam which are TOUGH! no multiple choice EVER! No need for textbook!
Test are difficult, but getting an 'A' is doable if you study. Book was not necessary, but quizzes are open book notes, so it is definitely helpful especially if you miss a day of lecture. She posts study guide on canvas for all 3 test and makes you tube videos to help you grasp concepts. She give a ridiculous amount of extra credit!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here's the thing, not everyone is super interested in Earth Science, including myself, but she is really passionate about it. She is very willing to help you and meet with you if you are struggling, which I was. I'm an A student but her test required a ton of studying. She gives opportunities for extra credit. Work hard and you will pass.
Holly is the best science teacher on campus. Science is not easy, guys, so don't expect that from any teacher. She is as easy as science gets, and it's still not THAT easy. I usually just get A's without working. However, I actually had to work in this class; I even failed the first test. Keep in mind, the only time I needed to study was test day.
Holly is a very nice person. That being said her tests are monsters. I never really learned anything just memorized a bunch of termsdiagrams to repeat them on tests. This in a Non-Science majors class and I feel that she goes far too in depth for people who are mostly Art, Music, English, and Education majors.
Holly is a good teacher except her test are all fill in so be prepared to study or u will not pass. She gives a ton of extra credit which is really helpful. She always tells you what's gonna be on the tests by giving you quizzes and In class assignments which are on the test. You can't miss class or be late.
I did not study once for this class and passed with a B, her in class quizes, assignments and extra credit over weight the tests. Shes super helpful as well, i encourage taking her lab and her class at the same time because she lets you double dip in extra credit. Also dont buy the textbook, you wont need it.
As much as I like Holly as a person, she takes this class way too seriously! I took her online class and she requires her online students to take the exams at the testing center. Exams are like 12 pages long, no notes are allowed, and its not multiple choice. This class should not be this hard, especially for non science majors!
Holly is very old school in that she expects punctuality and will personally drop you after 4 absences. I watched her do it once. :( Absolutely knows what she is talking about and will help you learn the material. Notes on lectures are a must. Can be rude on occasion. Loved her class though and you will learn so much about geology. Study 4 tests!!
Holly is a great teacher! She's very knowledgeable and gives good lectures. Only a little homework - definitely read the book, study for the few tests (none of which are cumulative), and you'll do just fine. Response to emails was impeccable. Quizzes every week or so, open notes, and only about 5 questions. Lots of extra credit opportunities!
If you're not a geology major don't take her class. She takes it way too serious. Tests are 12 pages front and back all short answer and you can't use notes
She tries her best to break everything down and make things simple. Make sure you really pay attention to the in-class assignments and quizzes, they will be on the test word-for-word. Her tests are short answer and diagrams, so you need to study for them. She gives a lot of extra credit. I didn't even use the book, and it's expensive.
If you're looking to take her class just to get some GE units done then do yourself a favor and take anyone else but her. She also gives pop quizzes and if you show up a minute late then you aren't allowed to take it. She barely goes over the material that she tests you for. She knows geology but she doesn't know how to teach it simply to students.
She will make you work for your grade. She is a good teacher and do not miss a class. She helps the students who help them self first. I would recommend talking to her after class about anything you don't understand.
Over all I loved Holly's class and got an A. BUT she expects you to be on time and attend class and WILL drop you if you aren't/don't. She gives A LOT of extra credit opportunities and In Class Activities (open note). Tests are fill in and no multiple choice but all from lecture so if you attend and study your notes you will do fine. Easy A for me
I loved Professor Dodson's class. She's very clear and organized in what she wants and gives you plenty of extra credit. I highly recommend not missing a class as she can cover quite a bit.
Holly knows what she is talking about and it is clear that she cares about the subject. It is not easy to take if you have trouble in science classes or do not care greatly about the subject. Take it later in the day because it can be dry in the morning. Tests are fill in - not multiple choice so pay attention and ask questions!
Second worst professor I've had. She's unorganized and very unclear with her lectures. She's super scatterbrain and nothing makes sense. You basically have to teach yourself. There's 3 exams and ALL are short answer (with detail) with 100+ questions. I haven't learned anything, just memorized for exams. I reccomend to stay away from her class.
Holly is a great professor. She's clear in her expectations and explains what will and won't be on the test. Sometimes class can get a little bit dry, but for the most part it was really interesting and easy to understand.
I was warned to avoid this class & made the mistake of ignoring that advice. Holly is so in love with rocks that she forgets students don't speak her language. She makes no sense & this whole class is based on memorization, not understanding concepts. Very hard & long (describe & short answer) tests. The final grade sheet showed 2 A's. What a joke!
I took both her geology lab and lecture... It was extremely hard, you learn so much and she is an amazing teacher she knows her stuff! she is a little quirky but not boring. Her tests are super hard but she curves them soooooo much. like I got a C- on a test but she curved it to a B-. she really cares about her students. but do not be late!
If you are willing to show up and do the work, take this class. If not, you should consider a different instructor. Holly takes student absences seriously, and she takes note of tardies. If you are a diligent student, you will do well in her class. If you are not, but you would like to be, she is happy to help you learn the skills you need.
She expects her students to act like adults and take college seriously. This should be expected by all teachers at the college level, and she makes the material entertaining without being to serious. Great professor overall.
Holly is a great professor, passionate about the subject and she gives her take on how to explain complex concepts with little diagrams and sayings, it helped me monumentally. You can tell she has to cover A LOT of material, so the pace is quick, but she gives you every chance to succeed. Tons of extra credit opportunities and friendly curves!
This class is EXTREMELY hard.
Graduated from SC several years ago and to this day Holly is still the most memorable and preferred instructor I ever had at SC. I enjoyed her instruction and energy so much; she truly sparked a passion in me for the outdoors and the Earth. Show up to class ON TIME and make good use of resources (including office hrs) and you'll succeed no prob.
Rude. Very demeaning to students who ask questions. She teaches in total contradiction to the assigned book. Half the class is in their 30's and she calls them kids. Her lectures run over the period and she gets angry when students just START to pack up, usually calls everyone middle schoolers. Obnoxious. Avoid at all costs.
She knows her stuff no doubt. Tests are the hardest I've ever had. This is not my major but it felt like she thinks it is and makes it way too hard for an intro course. Do not take. Gives quizzes and in class assignments. Struggled for a B- normally an A student.
If you are picking between Holly and Professor Hilton, pick Holly. You always know how you are doing in her class and she's accessible.
She is very clear with everything she expects. Every topic that will be on the test is included on a study guide she posts online beforehand. Wouldn't recommend purchasing the book, I never even opened it.
Holly explains everything so well during her lectures and makes sure to relate it to things that students are able to understand easier. She only gives like 3 tests, but many in class assignments. Her tests were moderately difficult depending on what subjects were covered. We were only given quizzes if a lot of people showed up to class late.
3 very difficult tests without a curve, study guides but horribly written about 4-6 pages long study guides. Lots of quizzes and in class assignments. Don't buy the book, I never opened it. Goes through slides too fast in lecture then will tell you not to write stuff down, tests on the stuff. Horrible experience. Lowered my GPA. The hardest class.
I think she tends to forget the fact that students in her class dont come in as geologists, the entire class was ridiculous. She talks non stop and doesnt ask questions. Her exams are 10-12 pages long and completely based on memorization. For an into class she does way too much. Oh shell tell you not to write stuff down & then test on it LOL
Holly is a great prof since I had taken a similar class before the lectures were a little boring but they were informative. The class itself was not hard. She gives plenty of extra credit and the only thing that could prove to be difficult is the pop quizzes which only occur if a lot of people have been late to class.
This professor knows a lot, but I would Never take her again. Miss One lecture, your grade significantly drops. Show up 60 seconds late, not allowed to take pop quizzes. basically required to Memorize Each and Every lecture slide for the heavy exams. Lecture Heavy. Awful class!!! Barely managed to keep a solid C, and I am usually an A student.
She is organize. Definitely not recommend for ESL student.
Lots of homework. There is a textbook but we never used it. Lectures are straight forward but the class is overall pretty hard. Stay on top of things. The tests are worth a lot of your grade.
Very high expectations and expects students to know random little details barely covered in class. Not very helpful, does not get back to emails in a timely manner if at all. Very specific when grading, docks for the smallest mistakes.
The single worst professor I took at Sierra College. Her class wasn't challenging -- if you get your body in the class and study (she provides a study guide), you'll do fine. She's genuinely a difficult person to be in a room with. She's irritable, and has a difficult time relating to other human beings and it effected her ability to teach.
will specifically tell you not to worry about a certain topic then put it on the midterm/final. Picky about answers, be careful if you don't say/write EXACTLY what she said word for word you won't get points. will mark you down for things that dont really make sense makes it difficult to get a decent grade. her lectures are all over the place.
Holly is super passionate about earth science. All you have to do is go to class and pay attention and youll do well. She provides extra credit opportunities and study guides with exactly what you need to know. Dont listen to the negative reviews.
Holly is a great professor with real stories with her experience, although I had a tough time in her class I will most definitely take it again, she is clear and concise and knows her rocks!
I just had her for the spring semester and we had a one day holiday in February and the rest of the semester she tried catching our class up with the other classes and didnt care if we learned anything. She blew through her lectures so fast we couldnt take notes. She kept saying its online but it wasnt an online class. Do not recommend
I started out the semester pretty much hating this class and the professor because shes too smart to be teaching an intro class! But as time went on I couldnt help but enjoy learning. Its not an easy class. She wants people to learn and there is just too much to teach. She doesnt use canvas but shes incredibly organized and accessible.
I don't love GEO but she makes it interesting! It at least makes me interested in it. Does go off on tangents at times but teaches techniques to help you memorize things and tells you what you need for the test. Pay attention. Show up ON TIME. Early and she will help you. Sometimes "pop" quizzes but hints at it. Pay attention is crucial!
Tough grader, won't grade your online assignment without answers being to her perfect standards. This professor is very nit-picky and has ridiculously high expectations to her students, and expects them to be experts in the subject. By far the most frustrating professor to work with. Lectures are confusing, unclear and lack direction.
dont be late she marks you down. Makes powerpoints and outlines for exams but doesnt matter its all based on her lecture. Rambles in about certain details but briefly explains the most important parts. I would not take her again. I thought I would love this class but she just made it seem like this had to be my major or else I would not pass
For an entry level class she expects you to know every little thing and it makes the class miserable because you get tested on every little thing. Final was just pages and pages full of the tiniest detals on everything. One of the hardest classes Ive taken.
This class was the most difficult class Ive ever taken but Holly wants everyone to be successful. She gives in class assignments and quizzes every week but they are open notes (so always take good notes). The study guides for the tests are so long and the tests are very long but as long as you work hard this class is possible to get a good grade
She lectures A LOT, literally talks all period. You won't have any homework, just in class assignments and open note quizzes. Lots of extra credit opportunity and the tests are literally copy and pasted from the in class assignments and her lectures. She's a stickeler on attendance though, so never miss a class or be tardy. Fine class overall
Holly overall gives you multiple extra credit chances for exams and puts up to 10 points on the exam worth of extra credit. This comes in handy because exams are very specific fill in the blanks. If you dont write one specific arrow or word she marks off a lot of points. Overall shes hard for intro and Im an A student but barely passed.
Her lectures are confusing, her tests are more like 10 page packets of short answer questions and diagrams and her material is boring and requires tons of memorization. She teaches as if her classes have precious geology knowledge. Would NOT recommend taking if you arent a Geology major!
In this class you have 3, 100 point exams that account for most of your grade. This class also has plenty of extra credit and homework activities to help your grade as well. If you skip class or show up late frequently don't take her. It will affect you negatively. I personally enjoyed this class alot. This teacher is brilliant. One of my favorites
This was a pretty easy online class if you put in the work. I devoted a few hours each week to listen to her lectures, take notes on them, complete the weekly assignments and the weekly quiz. I did not read the textbook because her quizzes and midterms were based on her lectures. She grades very quickly and gives you a chance to redo some things.
This is not a good class to take.
I don't write reviews but felt I should for this class. Wouldn't recommend. For an intro class, it is extremely difficult and she is teaching as if every student is planning to be a geology major. lectures at an extremely fast pace, rambles about random stories every 5 minutes, gives the class literally no time to do quizzes she gives at beginning
Hands down most difficult professor to work with. I have emailed her more than once, she ignores your emails and responds very passive aggressively when you don't say what she wants. She essentially just likes to hear herself speak in her lectures.
Holly is a GREAT teacher, I would absolutely recommend! The stuff on tests are what you work on together in class, and she is always happy to answer questions. She has lots of extra credit opportunities, take advantage of those and do the work and an A is possible.
I honestly have no idea why people gave her such a low score. Let me break it down for you. In class assignments and quizzes are open note and you can work with people. The exams are very long, but they are literally the same problems from the in class assignments and quizzes. She gives out a huge amount of extra credit. Just GO TO CLASS.
Holly is very nice and funny, however, her lectures are generally rambly and hard for me personally to track with. Offers lots of extra credit, and tests are strongly curved, but there are always in-class assignments and she is very strict about missing class. She will also never let you out early. I loved that the 3 exams were non-cumulative.
Amazing online teacher! I love her extra videos for ICAs, and if you get something wrong, she provides feedback to try and help you get 100% on an assignment. Super nice and easy A professor as long as you are self-motivated to get the work done. Would definitely have her again.
Don't recommend this class for anyone in GE. Very tough teacher. Strict about very little detail. Expect you to know more. Lots of quizzes!
Her lectures are somewhat unorthodox. Shes tedious and hard to stay on track in lectures because she rambles. She gives extra credits, compulsive inputs, and expects you know lots about earth science. Took for GE and would not recommend her class for beginners maybe for science major.
Also, lecture heavy, tough grader and an over all HORRIBLE teacher. It's difficult to know exactly what she wants you to write on the quizzes and tests so study for everything she gives you. EVERYTHING, it's hell and if you have other classes. HA! Good luck, when I asked her to go over something SHE FLAT OUT IGNORED ME until midterms were over.
I never write reviews but this class made me want to write one. Professor Dodson is a tough grader. Only good thing about this class is If you don't give the right answer on the homework she will let you redo the wrong question. The quizzes are hard and don't make sense. Exams are tough, you have to know EVERYTHING. Doesn't respond back to emails.
Very tough grader and a lot of grey area as to what she wants on quizzes, tests, homework. She said the textbook was OPTIONAL, however, after going through EVERY PowerPoint and lecture, there were many questions on the midterm that could not be answered with that material. Overall, not very clear in what she wants and not a teacher for the people.
Holly Dodson is extremely knowledgeable about Earth science and is good at translating the complicated science into easily understandable material. Do all of exercises she assigns, take good notes, and you'll easily pass.
Lectures and assignments were understandable. Quizzes and Exams layout in various format & TIMED. She teaches and respects you as you already know science. She is picky and expects you to know everything. YOU NEED TO HAVE AN INTEREST IN SCIENCE TO MEET HER LEVEL OF EDUCATION. Never acknowledge student about school announcements. Don't recommend!
I would NOT recommend this teacher. She tried to be helpful but she wasnt. She doesnt reply to your messages although she is always online giving feedback on assignments. Expect a lot of weird/incorrect replies for every assign! Trick words in quizzes/exams which is harder to understand/answer. Ive never met a professor that complains a lot!
Teacher not care about class. Show old lectures and videos. Not good teacher. No message reply.
I dont understand her method of teaching. She teach you as if you already have science in your head and she wants specific short answers in quiz and exam. I was marked wrong on many answers and made her correct scores, but she never changed my grades. Her carelessness in people and grades show very vividly. I am an A student and I barely passed!
I really tried to like her but I just couldnt. Has a ridiculous policy if one person is late she has the whole class take a quiz. Puts every chart and diagram on the tests she gives so there is a lot of memorization. She will lecture until the last minute of class which I can promise. Uses lots of metaphors that nobody understands.
Holly gives class tons of opportunities for extra credit and regular credit. The only people who don't pass are those who don't show up, or don't take notes. If you write down what she says and what she writes it is super easy. Only reason I rated it higher than easy A is she does speak fast.
Makes a boring subject taken for general ed needlessly complicated and difficult. Actively unhelpful at times and later randomly generous. This class was a roller coaster and I couldn't wait to be done.
Took class online. Take tons of notes from PowerPoint lectures and do all of the work. You wont pass if you dont spend the time learning the material. Holly clearly explains everything you need to know. Cant slack in this class.
Holly is a great professor to take, she is super passionate about her lectures and I learned a lot from her class. Honestly, if you aren't a good note-taker then don't take this class, her quizes are open notes and it's really up to the quality of your own notes to pass those, she gives EC, tests are simple, COME TO CLASS, her lectures are valuable
If you are not majoring in Geology DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS, she expects you to memorize EVERYTHING gives huge Exams and nothing is multiple choice, word everything exactly like her or the answer is wrong... I have a 3.8 GPA and this was the first class I ever had a tough time with... DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS
Took her class fall of 2019. She is very passionate about being a geologist and has a lot of stories, but most of the time none of them relate to the lecture. VERY hard grader and if it's not word for word for what she wrote then you will not get the credit. Very lecture heavy and make sure to take a lot of notes. 3 exams, ALL short answer/fill in.
The WORST TEACHER I HAVE EVER had!! please do yourself a favor and AVOID THIS teacher!!!
Sierra college needs to fire this teacher, she is not very kind, and makes you answer questions word from word or else she will mark it completely wrong!
Holly is very fair! She writes down notes on a overhead projector and also lectures from a slideshow. If you write down everything she writes down you will pass the quizzes and ICA, they are open note. The exams get a little more difficult because they are not multiple choice, but it is do-able. She offers extra credit and is always there to help.
Best teacher at any JC or UC, hands down. Show up on time, take notes, reproduce the notes on the exam, and you're golden. Ask questions, she will answer them and she is super approachable. You will actually learn about the class content, not just regurgitate it and forget it. You will not regret taking her classes!
beware! do not take this teacher, she is the worst teacher I have ever had.
Such a heavy lecture class for general ed. I don't recommend her if you're not an Earth Science related major. Her lectures are very boring lectures via. YouTube. The assignments aren't fun, everything about this class had me stressin'. She is a very tough grader and had heavy tests that must be word for word.
This Professor is Hilarious.
Frustrating class. Prof is VERY knowledged in her field, but out of touch as expectations are too high. Says don't cheat or she'll know, so must remember every single word of her lectures (impossible) as exams are from her spoken words, many answers not on PPT's. Doing everything on time, watching all lectures, still headed towards my 1st fail!
Prof thinks everyone taking this Intro level class should have 40 years of knowledge like she does. She comes off as condensending, with lots of "Guys, it's not hard!" like we are the dumb because she cannot teach. Bragged about completing an essay she created in 6 minutes, so that is how she determines what we are capable of! Avoid if possible!
She lives & breathes geology & expects you to do the same! Uses the word naughty a lot in her lectures. Her submission comments made me want to cry. Says lots of things in her class are easy when they are def not especially if you are not a geology major. So many assignments throughout the week that she wants done b4 due date so you can redo it.
I have taken 21 classes at Sierra, received A's in every one except this class. She was flat out wrong on her grading 3X and refused to acknowledge her errors or fix the scores. Some answers she wants are straight up trick questions, sets Intro students up for failure. Hardest, most stressful class I've ever taken. Avoid if you care about your GPA.
Is extremely unapproachable , you are afraid to ever ask her a question without making yourself look dumb. There are rude comments left on homework assignments which makes the student unmotivated to try again. Lectures , homework, and tests are extremely challenging and heavy on the workload.
This class is so much to take on especially since we are now online due to COVID. Lecture heavy, will be a 6 minute lecture video that takes 20 minutes to take notes on because of how many words are on the slides. And she expects you to remember all of it even though she is terrible at teaching.. Also leaves condescending comments on assignments.
I dropped after two weeks. Lectures are 100 slides long and have no organization. She doesn't use the textbook (it's free) so you have to watch her lecture videos and go through all of the slides. Her tests are only short answers, no multiple choice and she is extremely picky about your wording/answers. Do not take this class with her.
To be honest Holly Dodson knows a lot about her trade but quite frankly she is almost impossible to please and is borderline psychotic when it comes to testing her students. She will blatantly ignore you if she doesnt want to talk to you and is very condescending and rude. I WILL NEVER TAKE A CLASS WITH HER AGAIN.
I would avoid this teacher at all costs. Incredibly unprofessional and aggressive. I recommend the teacher takes a course in how to interact with people instead of rocks. 1 was a generous choice in rating her. She is condescending and unapproachable. She somehow manages to make you feel incompetent with her rude messages & feedback.
This was awful. Her tests are done in two-part on is not timed and that fine but when it comes to the timed portion she does not even give you a minute per question. AND HALF OF THEM ARE SHORT ANSWER QUESTIONS. I understand she is trying to minimize cheating but not having at least 1 minute per question is absolutley ridiculous.
Super passive aggressive in her emails. Every week she complains about students waiting until last minute and how it should be so easy to get through the material as if she's our only class. She tests on the smallest most arbitrary details. Once she even said in a lecture that we didn't need to know something THEN PUTS IT ON THE MIDTERM. Avoid.
Very tough grader so be sure to listen to her lectures and follow along on the slides. Her PowerPoints can lack certain details but she will most likely say them so listen carefully. Can be a bit rude with submission comments but Im not in the class to be buddies with her. give as much accurate detail as you possibly can on exams. Very organized
Prioritize her class as much as you can. She is tough . she is soo damm smart and is absolutely knowledgeable but she does not know how to dumb it down for people who do not want to be geologists. I love her class but she does not know how to pass her knowledge to others.
Most unprofessional professor Ive ever encountered. Extremely particular about every single graded assignment including our exams. Is incredibly rude in her messages to the class and not helpful with her strict grading. She expects you to make the class your main priority, even if its just a general ed requirement for you.
Professor is very knowledgeable in her field. But, she expects way too much from people in the class. Most of us are just there to fill a general ed requirement. She NEVER gives any good feedback on assignments but won't hesitate to give you a condescending comment. She had given me zeros because she doesn't like .pages documents.
Not only was this Professor so unprofessional but also very rude especially when giving feedback. I messaged her about questions I had on exams she never once replied and ignored my questions. She expects everything to be 100 percent accurate but then she states, "you don't have to memorize all of this information"(Dodson). WORST CLASS!!!!
This professor was just meh. Doesn't give great feedback, VERY lecture heavy, and poor communication. It's a straightforward class, though--You can still get an A, just take the class seriously and do the work. Overall mediocre at best, but still doable.
Make sure you watch the lectures, weekly quizzes, and things called ICAs. She does not respond to lectures and offers very little feedback. very much a read and hope you memorize class.
Shes boring. She teaches as if you know everything about earth science. I hate hate hate her class. Visual learners stay far n clear from this professor. Im telling you will hate it and dread your life for taking this class. Its not even interesting. U can tell she has such deep passion on the subject that I think she forgets she has to teach.
The teacher uses years old lecture slides and videos so blurry you'll be unable to actually read what is on the screen with her "homework/ICA help" videos. Often she will ask you questions on quizzes each week that she either barely mentioned in passing or just didn't really mention clearly/at all. Be ready to lose points on 100% correct hmwk too!
I'm so confused about the negative reviews, because I love Prof Dodson and her class. She makes it so interesting, and she breaks the lecture up into short sections. I print all the slides for note-taking like she suggested and it makes quizzes super easy. Instructional vids for all In Class Assignments; really well-organized class.
I also wanted to add that I am a non-traditional student and have a lot going on outside of school, and completely FORGOT to take the midterm - and she literally opened it back up and allowed me to take it late, and just took some points off for lateness. She is super caring, just be open and honest and be accountable for yourself as an adult.
I was scared to take her because of the reviews but she is alright. This class is an achievable A if you have a strong work ethic. Take advantage of pencil grading. Only major complaint is the ICA videos are outdated and blurry. Always responds to my questions fast. Is not someone that will baby you, but is nice on a personal level. Offers EC.
Lecture videos and slides w/ questions sprinkled in, that show up on the weekly quiz at the end. Assignments are straight forward and usually have videos to accompany them; she will "pencil" grade if you turn in early which gives you the chance to fix mistakes. Quizzes and tests are easy if you watched the videos. Weekly DBs that are easy.
The prof is nice enough and very knowledgeable but this class is So. Hard. I am very academically focused but I think she forgets this is an introductory course. Tests are impossible as she expects you to know every single thing with no notes or resources. Take advantage of her pencil grading for sure.
her teaching style and methods were not favored by myself and others who I had taken the class with. Often times she rambled on about things that were unrelated and the lectures went in one ear and right out the other. The average grade in my class was a C, if you are not a science person, find a new prof.
it took 4 cartridges of ink this semester to print the slides like she said but it was the only way to squeeze past on tests and quizzes, its impossible to remember all the details she wants because there's so much. it feels like way more work than should be for a 3 credit ge class. it took so much time.
One of the best teachers I've had. She makes a hard subject make sense and brakes it down so that you remember it. You can tell she cares about the subject and us. Everything she tests on she covers in lecture vids, just take good notes because they are hard
I'm in her ESCI 3 class as a Geology major about to transfer, and feel incredibly prepared for upper division classes because of her. Lectures are super informative, and weekly quizzes are always things covered in her videos/slides. We have a "Geologic Timeline" project to complete over the course of the class instead of a Final Exam which is fun.
Take notes/go to class & you'll pass. there's diagrams in notes that she'll only do in class- the in class assignments/quizzes are on those diagrams. hw/quizzes occasionally, 2 weeks to do the hw, + she'll help w in class assignments/quizzes, she can check hw before u turn it in for the final grade 3 exams total + lots of extra credit opportunities
Holly is a great teacher but do not expect her to be your friend. She is extremely knowledgeable but forgets that not everyone is a STEM major or future Geologist. DO NOT TRY TO CHEAT. Before the mid-term, she will check all of the sites like course hero and fail you if you are cheating. It isn't worth it. Good Luck! You will need all you can get.
She seems knowledgeable but I think fails to realize the majority of people taking this class are doing so for a simple GE req. Huge workload. Comments are usually short/rude/unhelpful. Values verbatim recall of long and meandering lectures+threatens to report you if you go off script. Key info tied to lecture+quiz hybrids that lock when due. Pass
She makes up her mind about who is worth it and who isn't early on. She will nitpick your work. Tests are impossible because you have to recall small details from hours long lectures each week. She will make you redo work over and over again. So many assignments that you have to do by hand. Grouchy.
Absolutely phenomenal! So passionate about her subject of teaching, which makes me happy as a student incredibly passionate about this subject. Show up ON TIME or quiz, take notes, and study. She is definitely a college level professor. Loved learning about her super interesting life! Almost a NASA astronaut? Iconic. Taking her classes next sem!
Fantastic geology professor! 100% college level professor. Show up ON TIME or quiz, take notes, and study and you'll pass no problem. Very accessible outside of class! Cares about what she teaches and has a super interesting background you'll learn about through her class. I'm already signed up to take more of her classes next semester!
She is very informative, but for an introduction Earth Science class, it was far too much. She does lecture after lecture on different things and then we take one big test on all of it where we are expected to memorize all of it. It's tiring and it's too much. It would've been better if she focused on one subject and then we take a test.
Holly is a wonderful professor! You can tell she really loves her students and what she teaches - plus, she has so many fun stories and good advice to tell you during class. There's a lot of material, but if you show up ON TIME for quizzes, take good notes, and study, you'll pass with flying colors. (Plus, tests aren't cumulative!)
I honestly loved science until taking her class. Her exams are not open notes and are based on things she says, so If you are not an auditory learner then this class will be extremely difficult. I have attended many tutor sessions yet I still failed.
While I think she's a really good teacher, her class was exam-heavy. Your entire grade essentially relies on your test scores, and the sheer amount of stuff she crams into the 4 total tests is insane. If you struggle with memorization I would NOT recommend taking this class.
very lecture heavy. fast grader, great feedback, plenty of opportunities to improve your grade. responds pretty quickly to emails. will work with you and your schedule if you cant make it to her check ins.
Professor Dodson is incredibly passionate about geology and makes the material engaging. Attend class, take notes, and study - you'll do well. Unstuck ai was a lifesaver for efficient exam prep. Overall a great class to take, even if science isn't your forte.
Professor Holly, is sweet but not a good professor. Exams are extremely difficult solely based on memorization. No notes, and she does not accurately prepare you for the exams. Extremley Geology based class even in a regular earth science course. If you are late to class you cannot make up quizzes, and exams are 110 points or more.
I love that there is no textbook for this class. Everything you need to know is literally in the short lecture videos provided. There is no reason to leave canvas to find answers for the exam. Just put in effort and you'll be fine. Exams are worth a large part of your grade but they're so easy. Extra cred opportunities if u need it too.
An OK Prof. About 10 assignments each week, most of which are short lecture quizzes. Nit picky with grades; if it's not the definition or answer provided in her lectures she will mark you down. It's an easy enough class if you follow directions and complete all the work.
one of my favorite professors. passionate about geology. great for geology majors but don't take historical geo as a GE. our class was less than 10 students so it was very chill. some of the hardest exams ive taken, even had to leave stuff blank, but i still got A's. lots of extra credit questions on the exams. caring and accessible
This professor was very sweet and nice. She gives TONS of opportunities for extra credit & the tests are easy as long as you study. All of my tests pretty much had a grading curve as well which was very helpful. She does like to talk about her personal life, but overall, a great professor. Easy homework too, and quizzes are open note.
Lecture heavy (online) and attendance is mandatory which is fine, but if u arrive late or after she handed out the in class activity, u will not get a chance to do it. Even though the class still has 2 hours left. Took this as a GE req, the class could be way shorter if our “homework” was actually for homework
I took the hybrid Earth Science course and Prof. Dodson truly did make the online bit very accessible, easy to manage and cracked a few jokes along the way. The on-campus portion was a repeat of the lectures but attendance is mandatory for in class assignments (ICA's). The ICA's are easy as long as you finish the HW from night before!
Holly is great. Instead of having a big final exam, we made a six-meter geologic timescale. One of the most fun projects I've been assigned. I feel like it made me learn way more, and now I have a study tool for my future geology classes. You will never be surprised by anything on quizzes or tests. The lab is also really fun.
Professor Dodson was great! I am not good at science at all and only took this class for my Gen Ed but I learned a lot from this class! She makes the information applicable to every day life and her lectures are interesting and funny! There is quite a bit of work, so you'll want to stay on top of it, but overall I would definitely recommend her!
Dodson is an outgoing woman. She is definitely lecture heavy but just take some notes and you'll do fine as most of the assignments are posted for you to complete online. However, attendance is not mandatory but there's lots of in class assignments to be completed which count towards your grade. Also, field trip at the end of the semester.
If you think it's a simple rock class that's going to fulfill your requirement you are wrong. She's strict on attendance (even if your late she docks you down) so you must show up and sometimes come early as she does pop quizzes that can't be made up. Also the coursework is alot for an intro class and tests are very challenging. Wouldn't recommend.
way too much busy work to the point where I feel like i'm just taking the class to get work done and not to learn anything at all, so much work packed into a summer course don't really reccomend
Prof. makes it clear you are not allowed to use any online sources expect the material provided in the class, which is impossible considering she provides very little information about the topics in assignments and quizzes. Extremely lecture heavy and nit-picky grader. She docs points on assignments if they are not the exact wording she uses.
I loved this professor. I took her Earth Science class online. I'm not great at science, but she set up her online class in a way that made it easier to understand. All of her content is thoroughly explained through mandatory video lectures. I preferred that rather than reading from a textbook. She also gives lots of extra credit opportunities.
She splits her weekly lectures into these 10 part quizzes and you cant even go back to study them (cuz your locked out) then she gives these hw assignments, but is super vague on the "help" videos. I literally got a 0 on a fill in the blank quiz all because I wrote a sentence (with the answer) and she wanted just the word (didnt specify that)???
please DO NOT take her class, unless you want to deal with her docking points off your homework and tests for not being word for word what she wants, but shes only gonna tell you in a mass email to the class that some students wrote it too long while others were too short. like girlll specify how many words you want in your answers?!?!? DO NOT TAKE
Beware of this Professor. She requires using only her materials but warns against quoting them directly? But docks you points for NOT USING HER WORDS! Her videos are outdated and hard to follow. If you need help, she will not help you. Her weekly emails can come off as condescending. This has been my toughest class, demanding 6-12 + hours per week.
This class online was frustrating. Her video lectures were difficult to follow, she often skipped over slides quickly without much explanation. I watched every lecture and took notes, but still wouldn't have information she wanted for worksheets. She is very specific when grading, but has unclear criteria and is extremely vague giving feedback.
For Lab only. I did not like the lab assistant George. He made me feel uncomfortable and was a little rude and condescending. If he tried to ask you a question about what you're working on and you didn't know the answer, he looked at you like you were dumb and talked to you like a child. I didn't want someone staring at me while I tried to work.
I honestly don't get how people complain about this class, especially for online. Yeah, she has multiple part lectures but they're pretty short. Every answer she wants you can find from a lecture. I'm taking her 16 week course rn and I legit have a 99.7%. If you just take notes on what she actually says and don't google things, you'll do great.
Moves very fast through material and often assumes you already understand it. Daily in-class work means attendance is required. Exams feel harder than expected and don't always match the lectures. Extra credit helps, but you'll need to teach yourself a lot outside class. Lots of personal anecdotes which can help but also confuse.
Professor was very nice and humorous, however the lectures were very confusing and hard to follow. Attendance is important because of the in-class assignments. All in all, the extra credit is amazing for exam points, but lectures are really confusing! Make sure to take notes!! (Took 16-weeks lecture only) (Non-science person)
Even though she was at times nice to her students, she was extremely difficult, so many in class assignments and slideshows she rushed through saying some materials would not be on the exam when it definitely was. She skips many slides and expects everyone to know everything and is a very tough grader. Very lecture and exam heavy
Holly was fantastic for me. She is quite passionate and witty with her lectures, which helps make the content more memorable. She is always enthusiastic about answering any questions. She only gave a few homework assignments. She has small in class assignments and exams. Exams are fairly easy if you actually review what is on the study guides.
Holly's labs were solid overall. She was very helpful/supportive when I got stuck or misunderstood something. She also had an assistant, George, who was great as well. The lab exams were actually pretty hard, but if you review what is on the study guides, you should be fine. I highly recommend her lab class, as well as her lecture classes.
She's a great professor. She's very enthusiastic about the concepts. She does present PowerPoint slides, but they're available on Canvas since she goes through them a little too quickly. She wants you to pass! Attendance is mandatory because of in-class assignments, which severely impact your grade. TAKE HER!!!
She was a nice lady I'll give her that. However, she is not ready to help you. She gives in class assignments which means you have to show up and very little homework. She gives a long study guide and majority isn't on the exam. The exams are most of your grade and the material isn't very well covered. Likes to ramble about her own life all class
