Holly is great. The material for this class is really detailed, but if you remember everything from 2101, you will be ok. The tests are hard, but multiple choice, and grades tend to be fine. She really knows her stuff, and you should take this class if you're going to be a financial analyst. Tough, but worth it.
Hawk's class gave me a better attitude about accounting. I struggled for B's in Accounting 1 and 2 at UGA, but this class was a lot more fair and useful (Not an easy A). She knows you're not an accounting major, and she teaches you relevant information for financial analyst roles/internships. Hawk is a great professor and I highly recommend her.
Professor Hawk is genuinely a good accounting professor. She is very confident and to the point in her lectures, and adds good commentary on the slides. She teaches in a way that feels like she really cares that we understand the material. As long as you do the work assigned and study hard, there aren't surprises and you'll get an A in the class.
Good professor, answers questions well, and knows the material. The lectures are standardized for the course and are conceptual. Not helpful in learning material needed to pass the exams. Outside of class work is a lot, but it is what will best prepare you for the exams. It is possible to do well in this course if you put in the time. Curves exams.
Professor Hawk made Accounting 2101 pretty bearable. There's a ton of homework and the tests are really hard, but that's just how Accounting is. After having Hawk and Christensen for part of the semester, I would definitely recommend taking Hawk. She gets to the point and almost always let us out at least a little early. Super nice woman.
SHe left half way through the semester for her pregnancy, but while I had her she was an excellent teacher and clearly knowledgable on the subject.
I really enjoyed Prof. Hawk. She is so sweet and very helpful 1-on-1. It can be difficult to learn in a large class setting, but I thought she really knew her stuff and did a good job at explaining. This class is difficult, don't get me wrong, you really have to work for an A. But you can't go wrong with Hawk.
She was fine. I personally didn't like her teaching style; she rushed through slides, gave little time for practice, and had way too much structure to make this class enjoyable at all. Tests were hard. Kahoot quizzes @ beginning of each class (graded for accuracy) sucked and were pointless IMO. 2 easy group projects. Take Christensen.
Hawk is a really nice person and you can tell she wants you to succeed. The course itself is very difficult, but passable. There are helpful curves on the tests and an optional final to boost your grade. Kahoot in class every day so you have to go. If you study well for the tests there is no reason you should fail the class.
Prof. Hawk was nice. Theres a kahoot everyday before class & thats how attendance is also taken. Youll have to spend 2-4 hours on each homework assignment. I didnt enjoy her style of teaching but she is very knowledgeable on the content. Skoolers study packets help a lot before taking your tests. Tests are hard but partial credit is available.
Professor Hawk was a great professor and she was very passionate about accounting. Despite the material being hard, she made class more enjoyable. The class is geared towards working with your peers and reviewing the material before coming to class each day.
Prof Hawk was amazing. The course is tough but she really knows the information she is teaching and it is obvious that she wants her students to succeed in the course. The exams are difficult since they're department wide and she sends you multiple practice exams and practice problems that she goes over in class to prepare you. Tough, but worth it.
holly was a great accounting prof !! she really knew her stuff and wanted us to succeed. you do have to put in a lot of work though, and you absolutely cannot fall behind.
Attendance is Kahoot based. Get the question wrong? Half credit for attendance. Holly is one of those teachers that talks about nothing and decides to cram all of the day's material into the last 10 minutes. Practice tests look absolutely nothing like the tests. Homework up to two times a week that takes 2 hours minimum. Miserable class.
Do not take Hawk! If Christensen's only accounting one course is offered at 8:00am again, allow yourself to wake up earlier twice a week. Hawk is not accessible outside of class, and lectures do not help whatsoever. Occasional Kahoots make you go to class, but the material is taught almost 100% through the book and RAs/HW.
Accounting 1 is hard no matter which professor you get. Dr. Hawk goes super fast and sometimes doesn't explain the content well. Homework and reading quizzes were useless in my opinion, but you need to do them to bump your exam grade. Practice exams were nothing like actual exams and did a poor job of preparing me. Okay class, but needs improvments
Mrs. Hawk gave me a better outlook on Accounting. 2 group projects, homework and/or RA assignments due every Tues/Thurs, 3 midterms, and an optional final that replaces lowest midterm grade. Kahoot attendance questions (graded for accuracy) on random days. This class is very hard but if you do the work you will succeed.
She lives in SC so she's not really accessible outside of class. ACCT Lab is helpful to understand mterial- still only got a B. ACCT is naturally hard, so you have to work. Exams were detail specific; practice exams not much help; Be on time and don't pack up early- Kahoot will screw you. Group stuff was annoying, HWs did not help much.
Professor Hawk made the class engaging and she really cleared up concepts from the textbook well. To do well in accounting, you must do the homework and you must read the book. Only real complaint about Hawk is that we usually finished about twenty minutes early, and I think that time could've been better spent doing some more practice.
For this class, you get out of it what you put in. There are a lot of resources given to you that help from the extra materials in the book to the accounting lab. To actually do well in this class it's going to take A LOT of outside work that may take up a big chunk of your day, but it's definitely do-able if you're good with managing your time.
OK class, medium difficulty. Professor Hawk was friendly and knew material for course well. Recommendations: Read textbook, go to class to solidify concepts Make sure you understand material before taking the tests- thought hw and tests were application based so try to know it backwards and forwards to ace mc and free response Labs were helpful
Hawk is pretty good at covering material during class with how much she has to teach. You just have to play your part in reading the textbook prior so you won't get too lost. HW and practice exams were pretty helpful but you have to actually learn the questions thoroughly and understand them to apply on the test. Syllabus is detailed and clear.
She is extremely sweet and always willing to answer questions. A lot of people suffer an 8 am just so they can have Christensen, but don't do this. Hawk is just as good as him. She teaches very clearly and she always tries to make jokes to make class more fun. I would recommend her to everybody. You have to work hard for either teacher
Hard class. Teaches really fast. She is extremely nice and cares about learning the material. the entire department needs to figure out a way to: 1) not make the tests seem like youre taking the ACT 2) figure out how to make the grades actually resemble what you know. 2/3 of the tests were similar to practice tests. 1/3 did not. And That 1/3 kills
This class is EXTREMELY difficult but Hawk is nice. Defiantly buy the Skoolers Tutoring packets at the beginning of the semester they are very helpful with videos and extra practice. I kept up with my reading and homework and still struggled a lot. Be prepared to spend hours a week on this class . Don't think the 8am is worth it for Christensen.
Accounting in general is hard but if you do the readings and make the effort to go to the lab, you'll be fine. Holly was okay, sometimes it felt like her lectures were just straight from the book, but other times they were really helpful. As long as you pay attention, show up, and do the work, you'll be more than okay!
I thought Professor Hawk was really great at teaching the material. Accounting 2101 is definitely one of the hardest classes I've taken, but if you do the homework and show up to lecture, you will have everything you need to succeed. Professor Hawk was always really helpful and genuinely wants to help everyone do well. I'd highly recommend her.
Just go take Christensen. Hawk does not explain things well and I had to hire and pay a tutor to even get a B. Difficult concepts but doable if you like accounting. Optional final but it replaces your lowest test grade no matter what you get on it
Hawk is a fine professor especially if you look at ratings of other accounting professors. Tried the accounting lab once and it was a disaster. GET SKOOLERS! Do the practice tests until you are blue in the face to stand a chance of passing.
It is a difficult class, but Professor Hawk is very knowledgeable and helpful. Both Christenson and Hawk are solid accounting professors. Overall, this class requires a lot of studying, but it is entirely manageable. Before class, read the chapter really well, and use the class period to practice the concepts. You will be fine!
There is no avoiding the fact that accounting is a difficult subject. However, Professor Hawk does her best. I'd say the tests are fair. Not too difficult but by no means easy. I got the Skoolers reviews and they helped a ton. If you attend her office hours even once, it probably makes an impression on her.
She didnt really teach our class at all, christensen did. But she did send out emails every few days that told us what was due. you have an assignment due pretty much every single day for the whole semester. Studied tons and still got a B, if it wasnt for skoolers i wouldve failed this class.
Like others have said christensen's recorded lectures basically taught us this class during covid. i passed the hw and tests but my "professor" was the tutor at Skoolers haha. get that and you should be good. and practice practice practice! thats how you pass the tests!
Hands down the WORST Professor I've ever had in college so far. She skips questions all the time and then asks you to go to the TA's for help, not her. She flies through lectures and refuses to explain anything, and on top of that, there's quizzes at the beginning of every lecture that are only open for two minutes. A completely absent instructor.
She is the definition of mediocre. I get accounting is just hard to begin with. However, essentially this class is teach yourself with the practice tests the week before exams
This class is very well set up and easy to pass and even get a high grade as long as you put the work in. Once you put in the required amount of time to read and study if need be you will be fine.
Professor Hawk loves accounting and enthusiastically tries to get students to as well. She goes pretty slow in the lectures, but I am sure that helped others who couldn't grasp the material as well. She struggles to explain some of the concepts, but the book helps clarify. Do exactly what she tells you to prepare for exams and you're good to go.
Accounting is hard in general but I feel like professor Hawk does her best to teach it. Sometimes the lectures were a little unclear but not bad. The tests are mostly fair but always have a few really difficult questions. Study for the tests and the skoolers exam reviews are a life saver.
Very mediocre. I will give her credit where she deserves it. She told us the topic of the test. And that is about it... Accounting is very hard so it isn't all her, but I did wish her in class problems and lectures matched somewhat with what you would see on test. It is obvious she doesn't make the tests and couldn't care less to look at it before
Dr. Hawk made learning accounting fun as much as possible. Her background helped her to relate a lot of the things we were learning into practical, applicable topics. The homework and RA's on mBC weren't beneficial for the tests, but the practice tests and review videos were life savers. Study hard for a couple days before each exam and you're good
At the beginning of this course I did amazing, but by the last exam everything went south. As others said her Practice questions do not fully prepare you for exams, there is another professor who uploads test review which does help. The only issue is that even the recordings by the other professor dont truly prepare you for what is on the exams.
Study extra for the 1st test, because it usually kicks the class's butt. Hawk has clear powerpoints and gives many quizzes. If you want to follow along with the class and try to learn the information, then you will want to read the chapters before class. Then you can work along with her during the lectures. You will want to do ALL assignments.
Accounting sucks. It is not her that is bad, it is just a hard subject. BUY SKOOLERS for the whole course. Do EVERY practice problem. Her practice tests did not prepare you for how hard the exams are. You also will never get to review your tests which means you have no idea how to fix your mistakes. Mentally prepare for this class lol. u got it tho
Like any accounting class, it was so hard. A lot of reading and homework. Felt like I was teaching myself a lot of the material and I got outside help as well. Tests are super hard, take the practice tests!! Take Prof. Christensen if you can. Hawk is a nice person, just not great at teaching accounting in my opinion. The final is optional.
She seems to have passion for accounting however she is tremendously bad at giving explanations. She tries to dull down the language by explaining everything in child's talk which somewhat helps, however she pretty much explains which things do what and not HOW those things do what, if that makes sense. Good luck.
Professor Hawk is an overall great teacher. She works hard to make sure students understand the difficult content, and is open to questions. Would definitely take her again if I could.
Accounting is a tough class to start with and Hawk's teaching style did not make it easier for me. I had to learn most of the material on my own outside of class.
She is a fantastic teacher. I was very overwhelmed in the beginning of the semester, but she met with me after class nearly every day and was open to questions and went out of her way to help. As long as you are able to do the study guide without notes before the test youre good. I got a 111 on the first test. Put in the work and youll be fine.
I've found that almost everyone who gives Professor Hawk a bad rating really just doesn't like the course material. Go to class, even if you don't do the homework/readings it'll help a lot, plus, she gives random pop quizzes that you want the credit for. DO THE STUDY GUIDE it's very similar to the test. There's plenty of extra help available.
This class definitely makes you work for your grade. The lectures are ok but not super crucial to your understanding of the material. I used outside tutoring for the entire class and it helped a lot. I learned a lot but I definitely had to work and study for the tests.
Hawk is fine. I recommend outside tutoring if you want to do well in this class without putting every other class on the back burner. Come to class prepared, as in class quizzes happened OFTEN. If you choose hawk, make friends with the TAs because youll be in their office regularly. Good Luck.
Hard, but not overwhelming. She goes over majority of test material in class, as well as previous night's homework's. Exam's are tough yet doable. Reading the textbook early helps for concepts needed throughout the course. Lectures should be prioritized, and make sure you understand the homework. Secure the 25% of grade that isn't exams, it's easy.
i literally depise this woman and this class with every fiber in my being. I mean that. she is not a good teacher and expects you to know things that most people wouldn't automatically know. I hate her
I don't care what anyone says, Dr. Hawk is an AMAZING professor. The class is tough and she moves through the material fast, but everything she teaches is the exact same as Christensen (the other 2101 prof). You have to work for an A, but Dr. Hawk is an intriguing lecturer and wants you to love accounting as much as she does! Would take her again!
tough class! make sure you study
Hawk doesn't really teach, her classes are more to reinforce what you read in the textbook. I don't love this teaching style simply because accounting is a class where you have to learn through practice. However, she is fine and if you get skoolers you can easily get an A. She does require participation and will call you out for leaving class.
She's not that bad. Accounting is hard so I would recommend her, she's nice and I don't think there's much of a difference between her and the other guy.
L professor.
Professor Hawk is a great professor despite what other might say. She does go quickly in class, but if you read ahead of time or accounting comes easily to you then you should have no trouble understanding her. Make sure you LEARN the stuff on her practice exams and don't just memorize it. She has 3 tests and an optional final along w/ homework.
Showing up to class isn't enough. You need to spend hours studying for the tests, especially on the weekend before. The class is supposed to be a weeder for business majors so if you like to skip, you aren't getting anything higher than a B-.
Overall, this class is not as bad as I expected. There is lots of material and the course moves quickly. However, there is plenty of time to study between tests. Homework and quizzes help to understand the material and boost your overall grade. This class does require a lot of work, but you will be given plenty of resources to be successful.
Hawk is not a bad professor at all, even compared to the other accounting professor so don't worry about that. You're gonna have to study a good amount for the tests, my suggestion is get the 3 skoolers exam reviews. You will have to go to class pretty consistently because she has in class quizzes for a participation grade. Happy studying!
This class felt very poorly taught.
She is a very nice lady, be prepared for a lot of homework. I probably spent around 8 hours a week on this class, if you study the practice tests they are very helpful. She does go fast and I feel the class could've been taught better but overall she is a good professor.
She could teach accounting a lot better than she does/in relation to what we will be tested on. Exams are tough and rely more on whether you comprehend the material than studying the lecture slides. IF YOU WANT AN A, BUY SKOOLERS TUTORING REVIEW PACKETS. They are the reason I was able to get an A in this class and many others will agree with me.
she's not as bad as people make her out to be, she is really nice and her office hours are great. i wish she would focus more on getting good grades on the mc of the test rather than short answer but regardless, as long as you study and do the work, you should be fine.
Topics can get overwhelming and forgetful, but that's okay. Pay attention, as long as you study the practice materials and BUY SKOOLERS, an A is possible. I would half-ass the hw and quizzes, cause it lowkey teaches more than you need to know for the exam, whereas skoolers narrow it down. Understand concepts & patterns, go to class, and good luck.
Professor Hawk's teaching style assumes you read the textbook beforehand, so she reviews instead of teaching, which I think is fine since she uses class time to go over the main important sections, hw & quizzes, and practice problems. I read the textbook in the beginning but didn't help so I stopped. Skoolers was what got me through practice is Key
very average professor. not nearly as bad as some make her out but she isnt great either. the course itself demands a lot out of you no matter who you have.
Holly Hawk is by no means the greatest teacher ever, but she is not really that bad. It can be super hard to pay attention in class sometimes and you are really going to be responsible for clearing up and learning the majority of the material by yourself from the textbook. Occasional in-class quizzes, but you just need to participate.
hawk is super smart, but this class is taught so you have to read the (in my opinion, bad) textbook beforehand and learn it yourself, and the lectures are just mediocre reviews. if you can, but the skoolers exam review packets at the very least, but hawk is super nice and will talk with you to try to help. if you put in the work, A is very doable
This class is definitely doable to get an A without skoolers. She isn't that bad of a professor as many say. My advice is to read the textbook pages she recommends reading, go to class and listen to her teach, and study the slides and homework before each exam. Don't fall behind or slack off as it can hurt you a lot. 3 exams and an optional final.
While her lectures were not that helpful, she was very nice and caring. She was always there to answer questions and provide alternative resources for practice (such as the accounting lab). I found the practice problems in the slides, textbook review videos, and Skoolers to be most helpful.
Dr. Hawk does the best she can with this class. It is a hard class and there is a ton of content, but she is mostly fair and provides lots of resources to succeed. If you study each day and stay up to date, you should be able to get at least a B.
She is not nearly as bad as other students have made her out to be. As a lecture heavy class it is a given that she does not have the time to deal with every single one of your issues, just go to class, do the homework by yourself, and actually study for the tests (3 exams worth 75% of your grade).
Holly Hawk was fine. It's the class that's just ridiculously hard. Material is hard to understand and she flies through it. At the end of the day, it's a class that you have to teach yourself. But, there are extra credit opportunities so that helps.
Doesn't want her students succeed. Wants students to understand more than what she asks in class and on homeworks which is rather impossible because this is taken as the 1st accounting class and nobody knows anything. Doesn't explain vocabulary and then uses it on tests where she barely gives partial credit. Should not be a entrance level teacher.
Horrible class, avoid at all costs. Teaches minimally while expecting high-level performance. Please do yourself a favor and take the course from ANY other professor than her.
Hard class, but easy if you study at least a couple days before the exams. Final is optional. Teacher does not really matter as the exams are the same across classes.
This is a hard class and you need to pay attention in class and study for the exams, but if you put effort into the class it shouldn't be too hard to do well. She was a good lecturer and my biggest advice is go to the accounting lab with any questions you may have. Practice exams prepare you very well for the real exams.
The class itself is hard but as far as it goes she was alright. I basically studied everything on my own though.
Dr. Hawk isn't a bad professor, this class is just very difficult. Attendance is not taken daily, although there are surprise in-class quizzes, so be sure to come to all classes. Start studying at least a week ahead of time; the practice exams are exactly like the tests. It's a tough class, but not impossible if you don't get behind.
Felt like this class was way harder than it needed to be, and if you want a good grade, you'll have to do quite a lot of work outside of class.
