her class is easy if you just do teh work... but the class is also pointless and random... has nothing to do with teaching or theatre.... just lesson plans... easy grader, but pointless
She is an easy grader, but the lesson plans taught are necessary for our major. Learning how to do lesson plans becomes one of the most important aspects of teaching.
sneed is a homegirl. she makes class interesting and makes everyone feel special. shes awesome. sorry to all those haters but shes dope and u know it, all yall jsut dotn like doing presentations.
Holly is the greatest! If you want to teach, the class will be very useful. You leave the class with about 5000 lesson plans. She is super laid back, easy to work with and wants you to do good. This class is directed towards future teachers so if you are not planning to teach, i wouldn't recommend the class!
Really didn't enjoy this class. It's bad for really shy people. I don't think the professor likes you if you're not one of those outgoing theater people.
Holly stated she doesn't even like children! It seemed as though Holly made up here lesson plans the morning of the class. For not being an instructor in the credential program, Holly sure "acted" as though she were. Not to mention a poor one at that! No child dramatic activities were learned on my part. Heed my warning, don't waste your time!
easiest class i've ever taken in college. i think if you just turn in the papers you will get an a just do the work, no notes, no tests or quizzes and no book for us because she said she hates the new edition.
This teacher really cares for her students. She definately goes the extra mile for you.
This teacher is a joke! I took this class because I was working towards becoming a teacher and was thinking I would learn how to integrate it into my curriculum. Instead I had to Lip Sync in front of the entire class!!! And I was graded for my performance! Not the class for shy people she definitely has no love for shyness!
Holly was great!! I am a shy person and not a theater person at all. Even though there were alot of performances in front of the class, I enjoyed it. It was the easiest class that I have taken. Learned how to write lesson plans and how to incorporate fun activities into the classroom. Highly recommended!!!
This class was a walk in the park. Professor Sneed is one of my top favorites. For all you future teacher scholars, I suggest you take her, you won't regret it
I love Prof. Sneed!! she is hilarious and you can tell she's passionate about what she does. A great class for future teachers to take, and i recommend taking her as a professor. Very fun!
This class was awesome and Holly rocks!! She is very passionate about the students and the topic. However, having this class for three hours was kind of useless. But, I would highly recommend it especially if you're going to be a teacher.
She is one of the best professors I've had here at CSUF. She knows a lot about incorporating fun and exciting elements into the classroom. We had three lesson plans, a "lipsync" in front of the class, and a writeup on your experience in your class. Fun and easy. I recommend it.
First of all, she admitted she hates teaching kids and that really turned me off. Also, she says she'll pass back the work which never happened and you will not know what your grade is. I just think she was preoccupied with her acting career... I guess shes easy but I wouldnt recommend her.
I took this class online to replace my HCOM. I honesty don't like this teacher. She is super laid back. She doesn't grade our work until the week after finals week which bothers me because im looking at my grade for improvements. Overall, i don't recommend her.
This class is the easiest class i have ever took at CSUF. I took this class online instead of HCOM. Overall this class was very easy and I didn't put any effort in any of the assignments and still got an A. Only downside is that you have to meet with her 3 times on a saturday morning.
Such an amazing public speaking teacher! I have horrible anxiety when it comes to public speaking, but Holly was a godsend! I was always excited for her class
Easy class, perfect for filling a requirement. Not much material is covered and Professor Sneed did not seem very involved with the class. Assignments were not graded until after the semester was over. Some were never graded. Minimal communication between her and students. At the end you wonder what you learned. She's a nice lady though.
Took this class online. Mandatory to meet 3 Saturdays. Holly is cool, really nice and funny. NOTHING was graded until the class was over. Assignments/presentations seem confusing due to lack of instruction/communication. If you need this class just take it online, you'll be fine.
Wonderful professor! I have taken her class last semester as well :) She has helped me improve my acting skills in many ways. She is very interesting and fun!
BEST CLASS! If you want an easy course in your semester and need to rid of an oral communication unit, take her class. Minimal work load (short essays about yourself and small worksheets). All in all, she's a great public speach teacher even though it's a theater course. If you're shy, she'll help you out and help you build up your speach skills
She's amazing and structure that is this clause easy A no exams
I took Professor Sneed for an online class. It was fairly easy because the work load was light. There were 3 presentations. I felt like I constantly had to ask questions for clarity (but this could just be me). I cannot complain about her class, but be prepared to step out of your comfort zone--it is a theatre class.
Holly a great professor. She is honest with you and will help you improve I could've gotten an A but only took it to learn how to write lessons plans once I learned how to write lessons plan I lost interest, but is good for future teachers. You must lip sync in front of the class but it fun. Overall she is a cool professor and would take her again
Very organized. Has the whole semester of work uploaded. Discussion posts. Weekly reading and quizzes. Very specific answers from the readings on the quizzes so be careful. Have to go to 5 plays and write papers on them. Lots of EC at the end of semester. No book at all. Takes forever to grade. Overall she was good. Very easy A.
Theater 300 is NOT an English class but she grades unnecessarily tough. There are way too many articles to read and writing assignments. I have not missed one assignment, but am receiving a low B. She doesn't make theater fun. AVOID taking her!
Worst teacher to take for this course. Vague explanations responding to her tough grading. Dont take her, shes the worst!
AVOID THIS PROFESSOR. She should teach English classes instead of theater. She focuses on grammar and spelling much much more than the content. And yeah, be prepare to get 10's and 20's or maybe zeros in her assignments and essays. There is no clear grading criteria its just like she gives grades randomly.
What you did in this class is what you got basically. Yes she does care about grammar and spelling but what do you expect its a Cal state class. Overall she was orgainzed and clear on what she expected you to do, if you didn't your grade is what got jeopardized so that's basically your choice.
She takes forever to grade assignments and she does not accept late work for any reason! She is so arrogant
DO NOT TAKE HER I worked hard for this class and ended up with D Hard graders , she won't grade your work tell the last day of school so you can't learn from your mistakes , 3 plays to view and write about it beprebare to see 0 or 10 in a 10% essay she grade unfair and she doesn't care about her student .!!! Do NOT TAKE HER !!!!
Arrogant and does not give details about why you receive the grade you get - will not reply to emails or is very short; I thought the point of being an instructor was to HELP students, not bring down their confidence with baseless grading. I would NOT recommend this person and wish the university would consider professors who CARE about students.
she is the worst teacher ever. she gives overwhelming homework that keep you busy from other classes, as she is the only class you had. you will do a lot of work and she would not appreciate at all and give you a low grade. she is the the kind of person who enjoy saying no to anyone and not help them. stay away or you will regret every moment.
I did all the work and i ended up with an F. She is the worst instructor I've ever had. She is a really tough grader, has a lot of writing assignment that need to be in perfect grammer or otherwise you will lose a lot of points. She doesn't help even in office hours.
She is extremely unprofessional, does not answer to your emails, and takes forever to grade your assignments. Taking this online class, you will never be able access her and the directions she gives you are very vague and unclear. She expects you to attend 5 plays, which can be very pricy. Other professors only make you go to 3. SHE IS THE WORST.
Holly's class is not meant to be difficult and the only reason you wouldn't get an A is if you don't know how to write. You're required to go see all the school plays and write a 2 page paper about each; she outlines the paper for you. There are occasional pop quizzes about short online readings. If you want an easy A, take her class.
Course was online w/ decent work amount to do. Have to attend various plays on campus fr play critiques & so need to invest some $. Typically 2-3x assignments per week, very easy. I was before afraid of taking this b/ reviews, but I wanted the convenience of an online course & it was fine. She grades things slowly & can be picky, but oh well.
She's unprofessional and unreachable. She won't respond to emails and takes a month to grade the first written assignment. She expects you to remember the smallest details of each play. Take this class with a different professor.
horrible teacher, she acts like this is theatre 350 and not 100. Expects way way way too much for a GE class, especially a online class. It's not a lot of work, HOWEVER she grades as if we have taken this course before. I've never written one of these before but she's horrible. don't take her unless unless you're ok w a B in a simple ass class :)
I would recommend taking this level class at the community level as it is cheaper and you will probably receive a higher grade. CSUF classes are structurally harder and its not necessarily the professor's fault for the bellcurve, but you have been warned that this class is tougher to score well on for being a 100 level class
Online assignments were easy-- about an hour per week. Three Mandatory 3-hour Saturday meetings. Expects students to have extensive knowledge of the subject. Not a great teacher, but an easy class to pass. 2 essays on theatre performances. She actually reads your work. Also, doesn't input grades until the very end.
As someone who went into this excited to learn more about theater, I was extremely disappointed in this class and the professor. She does not grade anything until it is too late to learn from your mistakes. The feedback you do eventually receive is vague and not helpful at all in improving your writing. Not a good instructor.
Enjoyable class with straightforward assignments. Lip sync/speech in front of class, 3 lesson plans, a resource for future teachers, who inspires us, 2 plays to watch w/ paper, 2 papers from being in a classroom, and once a week discussion boards. This class is easy, entertaining, and helps educators with creating lesson plans. HIGHLY RECOMMEND
If you are willing to put in hard work, you will pass, if not, don't bother. Need to attend three Saturdays during the semester, she'll give you the dates, and do an interpretation. It's challenging, and takes you out your comfort zone. Be prepared to redo in front of others. Lots of extra credit- did 1 and got like 10% more and like 106% overall.
I've taken her for 383, 402A, and 402B. She's a fountain of knowledge and experience. She's very strict about papers, but just follow the guide and you'll be fine. You have to see shows on campus, but you can get $10 tickets for being enrolled in a theatre class. Short, weekly prompts to answer online. Overall, she's a very fun professor!
The fact that I got a D in a class like that I'm being forced to take and don't enjoy and working really hard in is actually ridiculous. This teacher feels like nothing the student does is enough. I read all of the required material and typed it in word for word on the quizzes and assignments and still got terrible grades; spent over $50 in plays.
I know more about theatre than she does. Take another theatre class.
Don't Take THTR 383, just don't take it is not worth your time. Class time is misused. Tip she only wants you to say what she thinks and outside opinions are not welcome in the class room.
She does not grade anything all semester, you never know where you stand. Feedback is short and poor. Explanation of what you are really supposed to get from assignments is non-existent. If she doesn't like your answer she tells you that you gave up on the assignment. Non responsive to emails/questions. Worst professor I have ever dealt with.
A lot of hmwk each week, be sure to stay on top of it. A lot of reading for hmwk questions. Had to watch 3 plays and write a paper about them. Pretty easy class but more hmwk than expected. I took this as an elective. I wouldn't take her again unless I had too.
She does not announce anything, she does not answer your questions properly, she also expects you to know theater like you have grown up 10 years with experience prior to taking this GE class. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!
I took this class online and it wasn't too bad. There are 2-3 reading responses due each week but the readings aren't long. Only a couple quizzes and one final exam. You have to watch 3 plays and write a play critique on them. But she takes forever to grade assignments, doesn't have a clear grading criteria, and grades tough on play critiques.
She was VERY PICKY with her grading and exams. Have to review 3 plays for this class. Final was easy as well as the final project. The only annoying things were her written assignments which make up most of your grade.
Not only is the class only a list of readings and responses because of COVID, but Prof. S neglected to ever introduce herself or go over expectations. grades harsh with no guidelines- doesn't grade anything until late in the semester so grades are unknown. Comments on grades were unkind and harsh when we were not given expectations/ guidelines
She doesn't really teach and isn't clear with what she wants. She didn't start grading until 8 weeks after the class, and then gives super low grades on all assignments saying "response too general". Her questions are confusing, she uses terms that were never taught and expects us to just know how to perfectly answer all questions. frustrating...
Worst teacher Ive ever had. It is obvious that she does not care about her students, is only doing this job for a check. The class is asynchronous for this year, but Sneed didnt even make an effort to get to know us, let alone tell us about herself. Gives vague instructions but then criticizes is for too general responses. Hypocrite. Awful.
*RUN RUN RUN* Drop the course if she is leading it !! This instructor (not a word I would choose) is absolutely awful. Undefined tasks with harsh English Grammar corrections / not Theater support. Did I say awful already? Was gone the first half of the semester and we called it on her. She deleted our in-class chat. Let me repeat absolutely awful.
Please do yourself a favor and take another professor for this class. Gives vague instructions for assignments and doesn't start grading until halfway through the semester so you don't know how to improve on the next assignments. There is no clear rubric or guidelines for those so you're kinda left clueless.
Usually a straight A student but literally gave up this class. Some questions in assignments are ambiguous, took forever for me to figure out but she gives 0 to all late assignments. Whats frustrating is she only started grading mid-semester then gives low scores saying its not specific when we didnt have a guide or clue what she wanted :((
Do not take this class with her. Terrible grading feedback that sounds like caveman language with no punctuation. Rude emails when students are only asking to clarify her vague instructions. Has no clue how to use canvas. Extremely slow grader. Its finals week and I have no clue what my final grade will be. Do not take this class with her.
Please save yourself the trouble and do not, and I highly repeat, DO NOT take her. Her prompts are beyond confusing and super vague. Yet, when she grades your papers, she tells YOU are being vague. She never replies to your emails, she made things due over break, and during the 2020 election. This class was the biggest headache ever.
Do not take this class! She isn't clear with her grading and marks you down for things not mentioned in the assignment. The comments she makes on assignments don't make sense and she is hard to communicate with when you have a question. Save yourself the frustration and take this class with a different professor.
For being a communications teacher during COVID, she is absolutely terrible with communicating with students out when they're confused. She gives feedback that's a few words so you have no clue what you did wrong. It took multiple students to figure out what the assignments were asking us for and she always finds something wrong with your work.
She is unclear on her instructions and gives a lot of homework. I disliked her class a lot because she was not helpful at all, nor was she understanding. I do not recommend this class at all. She is not a good teacher.
Professor Sneed is not clear on her instructions, she grades assignments without relevance to how she asked for them to be done. If you really want to take this course, choose a different professor!
Prof Sneed is straight up one of the worst people here. Vague assignments, harsh grader that doesnt even make sense and never accessible via email. When I had my father pass away during the semester, I missed ONLY a week of online homework, she wouldnt let me make it up, because I should have "planned better". Absolutely disgusting and atrocious
This professor is EXACTLY the reason why this website was invented. Read through the other comments, they are accurate. If you're looking for a clear excuse to not take this class. This is it, this is your chance. I feel bad for the other folks like me who made the mistake of not looking her up here beforehand. Find any other way to take this class
Do NOT take ANY classes from this woman. Its discouraging when this professor, who is the definition of everything bad about the educational system, grades my assignments and sometimes gives me a B or even a C on them when I know they are A worthy. Her grading is vague and worthless, she doesnt follow through - she wants you to fail. Pathetic.
Professor would not accept a paper worth 10% of my grade, due to details supposedly not matching up with the assigned play and claiming I did not view the play, providing me a 0 on the assignment. Failed class with a 69% grade, appropriate number. If you want to pass this class, do NOT take Holly Sneed!
The worst teacher I have ever had. I am a senior at CSUF with a 3.6 GPA and needed to take a GE 100 Level arts/humanities class. I thought I would this would be fun and educational like my other classes. NO, I did not learn anything. She does not teach. She makes crap up as she grades. She gives the theatre a bad name!! AVOID HER
I honestly don't think she's that hard of a teacher - just do the work and you should be fine. All the information you need is in the slide presentations, and she can be lenient about deadlines. Honestly enjoyed seeing the plays and writing about them.
Professor Holly Sneed is very irrational when it comes to grading your responses. When you email her about your grade it sounds like she is giving an automated response, she doesn't care about the students that take her class. Will never take theatre or this professor ever again, and I recommend everyone who reads this review to do the same.
This is one of the worst professors I have ever had in my LIFE!!! She grades so arbitrarily and will give you zero points on an assingment you spent hours on while giving no explanation as to why your work wasn't good enough. She doesn't care about the students and is clearly taking out her frustration over her failed career on us.
The most nit picky human Assignments arent initially difficult, she makes them difficult in the way she presents them, & how she then grades them She is so extra & wants every response & video submitted to be on her level of extra If it doesn't meet her unstated high standards your loosing lots of points Took class after seeing reviews & regret it
Literally the worst professor I've ever had. She does not care about her students. She takes off points if you haven't lived up to her crazy standards. She will not really help you if you ask for it. If you want a professor who actually cares about your success and well-being, Holly is not for you.
Sneed is not very caring and has no empathy for students being an online GE. In the syllabus it says you can watch the plays online which would have been helpful to go back and forth and write better essays and for people who couldn't attend. Honestly, it seems that she is rude because she is upset she failed making the spotlight in the industry.
Do not take her. Makes any assignment impossible to finish and always nitpicks about little details in writing. I didn't know this was an English class? Horrible, you'll regret taking this class. I thought it would be easy because it's a 100 level class, but she treats it like a 300. I wish I listened to the previous reviews before me.
There is absolutely no reason this professor should be teaching at CSUF or anywhere. She is completely apathetic to any situation that might come up for you and won't allow late work under any circumstances. Also will give you an F on an assignment and give no reason as to why. Doesn't care about the students and doesnt respond to emails.
Prof Sneed is an asset to CSF. Her education, experience, and love for the arts is a bargain for CSF students.
Very very picky about everything. After you fix your work she just gives more to fix, usually things that were present in the draft before.
I thought this was going to be an easy ge requirement. Boy was I wrong! This professor grades really harsh as if the class is an english class. The hw assignments are not hard, but she is so specific on what she wants each assignment. It has to be perfect. Luckily I got like 80-90% on my hw assignments but it still was a challege! Avoid if you can!
This professor is a really harsh grader and made learning about literature and theatre pretty unenjoyable. She is very passive aggressive when you ask her questions and I would suggest for you to stray away from this professor and look for another.
If you take this class, make sure you take it IN PERSON. Really great professor, super animated, funny and loves what she does. Be prepared to step out of your comfort zone a lot like A LOT. Easy class as long as you really put in effort and show improvement over the semester. If u are going to take this class to half-ass it, good luck.
Avoid her. She isn't very supportive, gave very vague and awful feedback, and just did not teach the way she should have. She shouldn't be a teacher in my opinion. DO NOT TAKE HER.
I've never had a worse professor in my entire life. Avoid this class at all costs. Prof Sneed will not give you any wiggle room for extenuating circumstances and thinks her students should function like academic robots. Grades harshly with very vague feedback. Clearly projecting her unhappiness onto her students.
AVOID THIS PROFESSOR AT ALL COSTS. Her assignments are very vague, then deducts credit when your responses are vague.
This professor seems to be unable to comprehend what it is she is supposed to be doing. She gives vague directions, it's almost as if she expects you to hit a target through a smoke cloud. Even if she is the only option, seriously consider taking a different teacher at a different term, or simply a different class all together to get your req done.
do not take worst mistake of my life.
Don't take this professor ever, I was so lucky there was a HCOM 100 section open so I switched to that. Me and all of the engineering and computer science majors who took it at the beggining dropped it.
Prof Sneed is the worst professor and mentor I have ever encountered. She is the least understanding and will not allow second chances ever. She is extremely disrespectful when you ask for help and will make you feel awful about yourself. Take another course or professor besides her. Not sure how she's not fired.
took her last year and found some old screenshots of the vile comments she'd leave on my hw assignments and back to say was and still is the worst prof I've ever had. Also, within the rude and nonconstructive comments she'd leave..multiple typos were made? not professional. take if you want to be bullied and torn down.
