One of the better professor I have had. Very easy going and tells it like it is
I thought she was very confusing.
She's very tough and brassy. She will not give you any breaks. Her expectations are high if you are looking for a challenge then step right up.
Wheeler was very stiff. No adjusts to summer on-line course at all, expected to cram full semester into 4 weeks. I don't feel like I got my money's worth. She gaves no help when asked a question. This is not equivalent to 105 it's more like at Eng 290.
you either like her or you don't. she's very tough but a good professor...esp gievn that she is very young.
Challenging and fair; she helps her students reach their fullest potential.
She is fair and really goes the extra mile to help her students succeed. She's thoroughly prepared for each class and obviously loves what she does.

Holly is a discriminating jerk...I withdrew from her class. She is very unfair to her students. She is a young teacher and thinks she knows everything when in reality she knows nothing at all. she gave me a zero on my paper and didn't read it because I had an extra space inbetween my title and paper
I've never had a prof. in an online summer class be as available and clear as Prof. Wheeler. She signs on all the time, answers my questions quickly, and returns work quickly with thorough commnents. It's easy to feel disconnected with online classes and because of her friendly manner and availablity, that never happened. Great Prof!
Prof. Wheeler's class was challenging especially in the summer and online but I appreciated the challenge. Analyzing literature isn't my forte, but Prof. Wheeler gave clear instructions and samples and was always very willing to help out. I've grown tremendously in the last six weeks and have learned more than I thought possible. Thanks!
While I agree that she tried to be helpful in that she was quick with handing back work and answering questions--she was very unclear with everything. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to her grading--my grades were all over the place and her comments on my papers made no sense--if there were comments, which on many large papers there werent.
She is very mean and degrading. She is a very hard teacher, who's never clear on assignments and what she's asking for. She's inconsistent with her grading and citing of papers.

Her teachings can put me to sleep while on the other hand I have so much homework to juggle it makes english more difficult.
Ms. Wheeler is by far the most unfair and unmotivating teacher. She plain out sucks big time. She intentionally gives really bad grades. She is a control freak who doesn't respect people and steals opportunities to succeed away from students. She has a reputation for failing an unusual number of students.
I was mad when I got the grade back on my 1st essay but I realized that Prof.Wheeler gave us handouts, wrote on the board, &explained multiple times what we needed to do. I didn't follow directions &deserved a D. After talking to her, I realize that she really cares about my success and that I can do well if I uphold my end and am responsible.

Very good teacher. Extemely specific about what she wants, and always willing to clarify any possible misunderstanding. As far as fairness or difficulty goes, There is a lot of work. You will not pass if you are lazy, but she grades very fairly. If you are looking to not do any homework, she is not for you. And as for the people that say she hates men, and grades them unfairly, they must not have been doing their work. I am a guy, and I have an A average in the class. I would definitely take her again.
This teacher needs to drop her I am the best and know everything about the english language attitude. I consistanly get low grades on assignmets and papers. I go to the writing center and get many opinions. Alot of homework. She is a young teacher that should not be at the college level. 101 in a introductory class and should not be as challenging as she makes it. Will not have her as a teacher again.

By far the worst professor I have ever had. I think maybe one person in her class got an "A", and regardless of their grades everyone thought she was a poor teacher. She is the hardest grader I have ever had, and I am retaking the class currently with an "A", and average a 3.925 gpa. SHE IS THE CRAPPIEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVR HAD! YOU WILL FAIL!!

great teacher if you like to do alot of work and love english. harsh grader, a .5/1 is a c for homework (dont know how that works) very clear on what she wants but if on a homework you dont have exactly what she wants its a .4. and went to the writing center since i got a 7.0 on a paper and the guy there said oh no not another one of these papers
If you make a lot of grammar mistakes in your papers you will hate her. If you dont, shes easy.
very poor teacher...she gives zero's if you don't go to the writing center but if you do go to the writing center you will only score about 2 points higher than if you hadn't. who gives .35 on a damn homework? when it is out of 1 point!! she is ridiculous...do NOT take this class

Let me just say on my first paper she gave me a D so I took it to two other professors to look at and they said she was insain. This being the case I dropped her at their direction. So you should do the same drop her now and take this with someone else.
She is not very helpful and takes forever to answer questions. Plus, she doesn't come in that often and thinks that I say "Innapropriate" things. (even though their true).
She is the most honest and interesting teacher I've ever had. She is challenging and doesn't baby her students & that's why some people don't like her--she holds them responsible for doing their work and some students don't like that. Too bad. You're in college. She is always available for extra help or to answer questions &is an excellent teacher.
She was very helpful and I learned a lot the requirements for writing in college. The only reason students do not like her is because they are slackers and want their grade handed to them. You have to be a good student and work hard, if you do that you have no problem. Loved her!!!!!
She's very strict and not exactly fair. If you like a real challenge, take her class. But if English is your weakness, or you have a tight schedule, my advice, avoid her.

Prof. Wheeler is awesome! She is funny and energetic and totally loves what she does. She's available for extra help and questions. I've learned more in these 15 weeks than I thought posible.
The challenge with Wheeler is not to understand the material but to figure out how to report it back to her. I think she is an extremely hard grader. The feedback she gives is vague. For an on-line course, it's impossible! Find another class if you hope to do well.

Sorry but she is annoying. She focuses more on formatting on papers than content. Her answer is "you should know that" or "its in your packet" OMG just answer the frickn question. She's nice but over the top. Its an Children's Lit class and she makes it so difficult. Take another teacher. (I hear they are easier and a whole lot less homework.)

I don't mind a demanding professor but Wheeler crosses the line. She actually seems to be proud of her inflexibility with students' mistakes. She views them as a chance to punish rather than a learning opportunity.
Prof Wheeler is awesome. She has very clera expectations and is always willing to explain grades when you have questions. She is energetic and funny and challenges students to be better writers and better people. If you want a grade handed to you, she's not for you. BUt if you actually want to LEARN, you couldn't find a better prof!
On a personal level, she's not bad. However, I didn't like having her as a teacher at all. The reason for this is not because I failed. Rather, I didn't like her because I didn't feel like I could communicate with her. I would only recomend taking her classes if you want to be challenged to an extraordinary level. Do your homework on this one.
She seemed like a nice person but was not understanding on personal situations. I was not able to make up a test (which later caused me to fail) because my grandfather had passed away and i was at his furnal. He teaching style was confusing to me and she played alot of Favorites in her classes.. So suck up if you want to pass!
This woman is the devil. She is the must irrational person I have eve met. She takes pints off of homework if you accident use size 11 font rather then 12. She acts like her class is your only class. Amount of homework is insane. She literally demands parfection. Expect to spend 10+ hours on a 3 page essay. Avoid at all costs!!!!!
Please don't get me started. I am an MCC scholar and I left her class with a C- I mean it's up to you but only 2 kids in my class passed.
Her rationale is that if you do what you were told, you get a C, because a C represents the minimum expectation of effort. So if you make a mistake, you're lucky to pull a D, because you didn't even do the minimum requirement. Personally, this seems petty and vindictive. This is clearly someone who cares more about ego than pedagogy.
This teacher sucks. She has no resonable grading method. After every paper I would fix what I needed to fix and I would still get the same bad grade ON EVERY PAPER. I highly highly reccomend taking this class with a different teacher. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS UNLESS YOU ARE EINSTEIN.
Day 1: 30 students. Day 50: 6 students. When dozens of kids start dropping out of her class that says something about the teacher. She corrects the menus at restaurants with a sharpie. Her voice is that of a shrew. Get McCusker, Rodriguez, or Pierce. Avoid Wheeler, Drumwright, Cummings, and the rest.
Wheeler is tough but fair. She is great if you actually want to learn. If you are looking for a handout-look somwhere else. Will push you hard but is the best prof I've had at MCC. Willing to listen and offer advice when I was having personal issues. Read the syllabus and do your homework, ask questions and you will be fine!

I took Detective Fiction with her last semester. While I learned a lot from it, it was simply too much for a 100-level class. She failed THE ENTIRE CLASS on our first homework assignment because we didn't put a HEADER... a HEADER! on a 1 (ONE) PARAGRAPH HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT. For your sanity and GPA, please, please take someone else.
Every day attending this class was hell. This teacher was very boring. She believes that her way is the only way. She thinks that you have endless amounts of time to work on hw. Expect MANY essays. Her grading system is very poor bc she would tell me to fix something and i would but i would not get any better of a grade. Expect to barley pass.

OMG.I had her twice and both times she failed me. I have taken ENG courses that were challenging, and I always passed them, but for some reason, this professor expects Haverad Level work rather than Community College work. I have never learned any thing with from her professor, except that my writings not good enough.
I had a good outlook on this class at the beginning. I loved English because I love writing, but after taking her class...my spirit decreased. She was a horrible teacher, I've had strict teachers before but she was rude. Don't take her if you like English.
I have a Masters Degree in Education and consider myself to be highly educated. This professor was impossible to please despite endless hours of careful reading, note-taking, discussion, and writing. I know that my work was A-quality. I ended up dropping the course and taking it with another professor. I got an A.
Is she a easy teacher, NO. Is she a going to give you an easy pass, NO. Is she going to hold your hand, NO. So you are correct, she is strict about rules; however, unlike other other teachers at MCC, she does her job professionally. To pass, improve your writing. She'll help you along the way but its up to you to improve yourself.
I learned how to write better in this class but it wasn't a result of anything helpful that she taught me. It was how many revisions and rough drafts she made the class write. I think if she put the same effort into grading our papers that she expects us to put in while writing them then she would be a better professor. But she won't.
College isn't an easy pass,if you don't put your work and time into it then you won't do good.This is a professor that challenges you do do better than average. She pushes you to excel and get better.Of course she makes you do lots of revisions but they're needed!And she does teach, it's called reading assignments,which no one reads then complains.

She doesn't baby you but pushes you to be better. She is friendly and nice and will help if you ask. She gives great feedback on work and is very organized. Class is always fun. I know her rating isn't very high but I think that's because she treats you like college students and doesn't hold your hand. Man up people, you're in college.

I dropped out of school at an early age and at 20 yrs old decided to go back and with not much writing experience i started off with lower grades n because of her help and teaching I've grown exponentially as a writer as well as a college student. This class is awesome! It's a writing intensive class so obviously there is a lot of writing, but all the assignments are provided early, there are lots of opportunity to ask questions during drafts and office hours and feedback on grades is great. Follow directions that you'll be fine.
American lit is a tough class regardless of who you take it with--200 level lit class that is writing intensive. But Dr. Wheeler is awesome! Her assignments are clear, her lectures are interesting and she's always available for extra help. I learned SO MUCH!
Wheeler is a pretty average professor. She takes her class seriously. She is very strict about following directions and she always gives rubrics that will tell you excatly what she wants from you! All you have to do is pay attention and do your work. Overall average professor if you need help go ask she will be happy to help.
Dr. Wheeler is an excellent professor for students who are ready to work and enjoy writing. If you are lazy, looking for an easy grade, or need to be babysat, this is not your class. She is available, clear in her expectations, and is obviously dedicated to teaching the fundamentals of academic writing.
Professor Wheeler is a hard grader, its annoying to be working hard and getting B's and C's on assignments when friends who are taking english 101 with other professors are getting easy A,s and not trying. You do learn some in this class and you can get a BA in this class if you are willing to spend an excessive amount of time.

yes, Prof. wheeler is hard and she expects her students to work hard also. But she is very willing to help, all a student has to do is ask. Listen, and don't goof off. She knows what she is doing and very down to earth. If i had to take it over, i would want her again. Tons of writing, so if you don't like that then don't take her class.

I took detective fiction, On top of this class being awesome Professor Wheeler is by far my favorite teacher at MCC and I have been there 3 years. She's very easy to talk to and I have learned a lot about writing although we have not done any essays yet. Our classes are always very interesting and interactive. I strongly recommend this class!

LISTEN!!!!!! I read these comments before I took this class and decided that I was an above average student in most of my classes. My grades are almost always A/A- with the occasional B+ so I figured worst case scenario I would get a B+ or even a B in this class..... She literally believes that a C is a fine grade and is "average" DO NOT TAKE HER
If you can read and comprehend sixth grade level English, youll be able to easily get an A. Actually reading the assigned readings is necessaryif you dont read them, you wont pass the daily quizzes she gives you so many extra credit opportunities its difficult to fail the clas. Exams are clear and concise with everything discussed in class.
She is to tough of a grader and gives no wiggle room for having issues. If you have debilitating mental health issues that cause you to miss class don't take her class.
Literally the worst class ive taken. Haven't even finished it yet. I take all of the notes word for word, I read all 2947238593465238 readings every week and still do not do well. Crams 10 pages worth of notes in 2 days so you can take a quiz on things that aren't even answered in the notes. So much work for no reason at all.
Would've dropped the online class if grading was clear. Own calculations extremely differed and will have to retake in order to transfer. Waste of time and money.
200 level lit class in 5 weeks is going to be tough bc it has to cover so much, but Prof Wheeler was clear, graded things quickly, gave really thorough feedback , and made a time period I wasn't super interested in really relevant. Lectures were engaging and she is really helpful in office hours. Would take again for sure.

She doesnt get help at all, no good feedback, get something wrong she doesn't say how to improve just makes you work on it by yourself. Really disappointed thought she would be better. She is big on going to office hours she is only nice and reasonable when you got to office hours
The most work I have done for a class in college so far. There is nightly homework and essays every other week. One thing I will say is that I do feel that my writing has improved but, there was far too much work for a 101 class.
Obviously there are multiple papers because it's a writing class, but they were specic and onnected to what we discussed in class. Lectures were interesting and she is approachable and easy talk to. When we moved online, she offered lots of help and resources. Great prof
Please don't take her class! Her directions are very unclear and confusing, the course materials are irrelevant and she doesn't give any feedbacks. She is also super disorganized and cannot use technology. The worst of all is she doesn't respect the students.
Not a good professor. No matter how many essays she had us write in that class, it didn't improve my skills on writing them. Complete waste of my time. She is terrible at instructions. Very vague instructions. She is also very rude. If you somehow like english class and don't want that feeling to get ruined, then I highly recommend to avoiding her.
Try finding other professors for this course. Assignment instructions are not clear. The way I look at the course is easier but this professor made it harder for the students. Few weeks before the class end, many students were gone or might have dropped this class.
I dont get the awful ratings on Professor Wheeler, she was extremely helpful if you take advantage of her office hours. This class was tough, but I learned a lot in this course. There are three readings a week, usually three discussion posts, two exams, and a final paper.
Took American Lit since 1865 online and loved her text selections. She gives great feedback, grades quickly, offers random extra credit opportunities. Its an English writing intensive course so of course there will be lots of reading and writing. Loved this class, if you love literature you will be challenged to analyze and think deeper!
Dr. Wheeler treats her students as doctoral level- not community college. The class entailed 50+ pages of reading/week (and the material is tested), multiple writing assignments/week, and a final research paper of 3000 words. Directions are often conflicting/confusing, and her grading is harsh (averages around 70.) Very nice person, rough teacher.
I don't think she realizes that this is a course given by a Community College. She is a very harsh grader and expects her students to realize what mistakes they made with little to no feedback. Her reading assignment are extremely long, and there are multiple discussion post due weekly. The only good thing is she allows redo's (occasionally)
Dr.Holly Wheeler is a nice person but she it a very harsh teacher. I would give my all on every assignment and get low grades with very little feedback on what I could do better. When she does give feedback it is always negative and frankly just rude. Personally, I found her demeaning and what I like to call a "negative Nancy" when giving feedback.
Worst professor ever. Never gotten so much as a B in English until taking her class. Unforeseen events prevented me from submitting assignments on time. Still did the work, emailed her and she was NOT understanding and didn't even grade them. Her syllabus is a jungle to navigate as well. Did not deserve an F. Glad I go to a real university now.
As a literature class that is writing intensive, of course we had lots of assignments. But the syllabus gave all the due dates , assignments are clear and specific, &rubrics for each assignment are provided before you do the work. You literally just have to follow directions! She provided specific feedback for improvement on all assignments.
Just save yourself some time and money and don't bother with her, she grades extremely harshly and I barely skimmed by even thou I had everything done on time, and even got help with a tutor I was still getting bad grades
It was indeed the most challenging class I've been in just because of the way she handled the work and feedback for students. I worked so hard with all of my essays and would fail and receive no feedback. Her directions were so hard to understand I had my parents read them and they were boggled at the criteria/unclear directions.
No matter how well anyone did she consistently put us down. And when I asked for help or for specifics as to why my assignment grade was low, she didn't elaborate. Did what little extra credit she offered. She did not care that we are not Doctor level of writing, she wanted that and that alone.
She grades harshly, directions are very confusing, and she does not give any kind of feedback or extra help unless we go to her office hours. This course was supposed to be 100% online and didn't have the time to go to her office hours. Dropped the class and will repeat it with a different professor in an upcoming semester.
Dr. Wheeler provide all the information you need to be successful. She grades quickly & provides detailed feedback. Her class is honestly not that hard--just follow directions and use feedback to improve. I have no idea why other students say she doesn't give feedback--I've taken 3 classes with her & she gives a ton of feedback!

One of the hardest classes I have taken at MCC.I learned quite a bit but struggled along the way. There are a couple opportunities for extra credit, if you do not understand something, reach out asap.She is stern but a pretty fair grader. If you want a challenge, try this class, if not, find another class to take.Tons of work throughout, get ahead.
ENG250 with Professor Wheeler is a challenging course, but well worth the effort. The feedback is invaluable, and using Unstuckstudy alongside the textbook can really help with study prep. Attend class, stay on top of assignments, and you'll learn a lot.
TOUGHEST class I have ever taken, longest 5 weeks of my life that was dreadful, instructions were not clear at all, grades very hard, feedback was vague and useless, gives a lot of work, unrealistic deadlines and times, missed one of my essays tried to say she never received, had to send proof before she apologized and fixed the grade, Never Again!
This is a level 101 class I was taking and she made it one of the if not the hardest classes I've ever taken. She's not understanding at all and never answers her emails.
I've taken high level 300 classes before and nothing compares to this 101 class. The amount of stress Dr.Holly Wheeler will put you through. DO NOT RECOMMEND!

Worst Professor. The ratings reassured me that I am in fact not stupid and she just is a terrible professor. I have not been able to understand any of the lectures and forget trying to understand instructions. They are UNBELIEVABLE unclear. For one assignment, my sister that worked at Harvard could not even find or understand the instructions. RUN
