dont let him intimidate u. hes a very sweet man. his exams r straight from the notes & a few references from the power point. he gives lots of extra credit & he explains difficult concepts well. His practicals r extremely easy, but his exam questions r sort of tricky. One number or word off means the answer is wrong! Pay attention to every detail!
Great teacher, always helps students and explains concepts very well. Don't agree with some of the test questions for a first time a&p course but overall a good instructor.. definitely reccomended
This "teacher" is supposed to be teaching Anatomy & Physiology at a state college to Allied Health students. For some reason, he thinks he is doing rounds with his med students. But wait, why isn't he teaching med school? For those of you who don't know, Allied Health students (after graduating the 2 yr program) don't and can't diagnose.
Awesome teacher. He knows a lot and makes class interesting. The tests are challenging but nothing he doesn't go over.
Nice guy, bad teacher. His notes are all over the board; almost as insane as his tests. He thinks he's teaching a med school program; steer clear of his classes!
Great teacher! Lets be real it's not easy, but he's a really great teacher. Study and you'll be fine!
I don't know what's wrong with some of the students. If this professor is not clear, fair, and helpful then I don't know who is. One of the best professor I ever had. He will do everything to make you understand the hard concepts, exams are easy if you read the lecture, and he gives you the opportunity for extra credit. TAKE HIM!
Very sweet, but he is all over the place! Power point and handouts do not correspond. Very confusing. Tends to ramble on personal stories. Don't let the 1st test fool you, its easy but they get harder. Only 2 labs, the rest lectures and still ran out of time. But all and all he gives you opportunity to get a good grade. Lots of xtra credit.
Dr. Duong knows his stuff. Yes, you have to study and pay attention and sometimes the powerpoint notes might not go in order but who cares? everything is there. He has real life stories that i found very helpful and he is a very organized and helpful teacher.
I really really really wish I would have taken barrack again. This prof. is very smart but hes just not a good teacher. I feel like I have to teach myself from the book. I think he should stick to being a Dr. not a teacher. The people saying hes easy are lying. Im sure they already took these classes at least twice.. of course its easy! You alread
if you do your job as a student then you'll do fine with his class - go to class, pay attention to lectures and use your book as reference. Dr. Duong is one of the best teachers i've had. he gives plenty of opportunities for his students to do well in class, but of course, you have to do the work too. if you're serious about learning, take him!
Dr. Duong is amazing, he is a great professor and you leave his class with so much knowledge. He is VERY hard though, so if you are serious about the material and really want or need to learn it, he is great. I had him for two straight semesters and I feel so prepared for nursing school solely because of him.
Difficult but fair. Demanding but understanding. If you want to learn A&P and Micro, Dr. D is the prof you want to take. If you are not serious about your study or education, you may want to take Bio with someone else. He is also fun and very down-to-earth and always have a few wise cracking jokes to tell his students.
Dr. Duong is very difficult. I anticipated that there would be a lot of work and that this class would be demanding, however, Dr. Duong does not answer my questions. In fact, he looks annoyed and irritable when I do ask. I feel I'm a good student and I don't know what his deal is?
he's available, encouraging, patient and cares about students. he bases his power points on the comments and recommendations from previous students. tests are fair, but you must be prepared for them. attendance is a must. do your homework, show up for class, study and you'll do fine. you can email him 100 times; he'll always answer!
I was scared to take micro but I actually really ended up enjoying the class. Dr. Duong is a GREAT professor and very helpful. He really cares that his students understand the concepts. If you study and take good notes, you'll be fine for tests (but they are challenging if you don't know the material!) He's funny too!!
Duong is a nice guy. However, he is a perfect example as to why a CAREER MD., shouldnt moonlight as a professor. Just because he might be good at medicine, doesnt mean he should teach it.The exams and the lecture notes, which you should study, were completely different. Attend CSN and get a CAREER PROFESSOR!The quality is much better at CSN.
Dr. Duong is a very smart instructor, although he severly limits his students by how he manages his classroom. Unrealistic expectations and takes away the students ability to manage their own study time to fit their individual schedules. Smart individual but poor instructor.
Dr. Duong is a GREAT professor! He's very down to earth and easy to talk to and very helpful. I think it's so dumb that people are complaining about not getting his powerpoints! You're required to do your OWN studying! Seriously! Try reading the book! His lecture notes are excellent - but take written notes too and you'll do just fine!
I love Dr. Duong! I have learned so much from him. One of the best professors I've had the whole time I've been in college.
The tests and quizzes come directly from the info in his handouts - whoever wrote that other review obviously hasn't been studying. There are a few questions that seem pulled out of left field, but they're application questions... think it through, make your best guess, and usually you'll get that question right! Dr. Duong is a great teacher.
I've am a graduate of a highly ranked research university. I returned back to school recently for a career change. Dr. D is one of the best professors I've ever had! He's definitely top 3. While you do have to study and understand the material well, if you do, you will do well in his class. Amzing professor!!!
I love Dr. Duong!!!, he's the best!!! He's very knowlegeable, and he's a surgeon as well, however, he is not cocky at all, he's very down to earth, unlike the ones at CSN. He will explain the hard concepts and make them easy. Watch out for his practical exams, they are hard!!! But he is very fair, hes exams are not tricky. Take this teacher.
Very Hard Professor but Knowledgable ... Should look at ethic of a professor he is not that ethical in my opinion...
Last comment is totally so untrue!!! Students have issues with this professor because he does not play by the students' rules!!! Get a life! He is a great professor and I learned alot in his class despite only earning a B.
Dr. D is awesome. He is very difficult but very fair. He tells great real life stories and is very funny. If your plan is to go into the medical field, his class prepares you more than other professors. I had to study my butt off for my A.
Great for preparing you for the medical field, however, I believe he should be teaching higher level courses, not beginning 123 and 124.
Dr. D awesome. He is hard but if you are taking him for medical field he prepares you for it. Notes up front via WebCampus print them out for class. record his lectures and don't waste time trying to write his powerpoint notes, it is already in the notes he posts. just listen to his lectures. tests are critical thinking not definitions. STUDY!
he is more lax in 224 than 223. print off notes, listen in class do not copy powerpoint notes. tests are based on his notes, but tests in a critical thinking pattern, not memorization. he does this to prep student for entrance exams & medical field. he is easy if you put in the effort!
Take this professor, He is very knowledgeable, down to earth, and funny. His real life experiences help students learn the other way of seeing the concept. The way the course was taught is very well presented. You're not going to finish the course without learning something. The practical and exams are easy just as long as you study.
He is a very good professor. His exams come from his lectures, and he gives you the outline off his lecture. He does everything he can to help the students. He does expect you to know the material. But he does make the course much easier compared to CSN.
Dr. D is a great biology professor. He expects you to study and you will not pass if you do not. He relates difficult concepts to real world examples and experiences. He will let you know up front what he expects of you. He knows his stuff. Highly recommended... I wish I had also taken him for 223.
He's wonderful instructor.
Took him for 223/251 in summer, 224 in Fall09. By no means are they easy classes, but he does a great job explaining and relating things to real life. Go to every lecture, pay attention, and you'll do fine. You will need to know how to apply what you learn for the tests. I didn't use the book for any of the classes and still got 2As and a B.
Stay clear...100% of class failed exam 1 and it did not get better as it progressed. If you want to teach med school then go teach it. Has the md god complex and very little respect for his students. Exams full of trick questions.....
Dr. Duong is a very knowledgeable man and could be a very, very good instructor if he wanted. Unfortunately, his ego (God complex) and his lack of respect for his students get in the way. I would stay clear of him - his exams are most of your grade so if you don't do well on exams, he doesn't have busy work. His exams also have trick questions.
I had no problem w/ his teaching technique at all. the class itself is hard- summer class is not set up to students who work full time-the homework is too overwhelming- at least 15 pages (lab&casestudy).time spent w/ home work could have been spent studying
VERY HARD Class! 224 will be worse. We had 9 "F" students out of 26. 5 dropped the class. Only 5-6 of us got A's, all the rest B or C-. 94-100 for an A, and anything below 73... YOU FAIL! 60 pages of homework/case study in 6 weeks! Tests are VERY difficult and worded so that you are tripped up easily. Not recommended unless you can study 16 hrs/WK
Duong is the worst teacher!!! he's extremely hard and thinks that were in med school and not bio224, he can careless if you pass or fail, there were a total of 30 students in the class and at the end of the class there were about 10 students left and half of them ended up failing!! he's the worst, stay away from taking his class!!!!!
Is he easy??? By no means, but I had him for 223 and 224 in summer when it was accelerated and he was fine. He does have little tolerance for "less than bright" but he was always willing to help me and by the time I got to 224, I had him figured out. I am actually doing better in 224 than 223. Those with F's are simply not trying. Tests are tricky.
Took him for 223/224 Summer classes... His teaching is fun and clear. That said, if you do not read your chapter 1-2 times, and read his notes several times; so that you have a FIRM grasp on the information, you will be dealt a "DEATH BLOW" on his exams! I did better in 224 than 223. If you DO NOT CARE or are a "little slow", you will be crushed!!!
I found Duong to be a very difficult teacher. I attended every class and lecture. I studied the textbook and his notes, but I still did poorly on his exams. I tried various studying techniques and even had a talk with him about how I could do better in his class.I also agree that he teaches as if we are in med school.
His bark is louder then his bite. I was scared at first. I did not read the book. I referenced it for bones, etc. I did not miss a class and studied roughly 5 hours a week outside of class and got an A. I did not find the test tricky at all. I am still hoping to get into his 224 this Fall.
I took him for both 223 and 224 and had no problems with him and his teaching style. But be warned this class is not for the feint of heart. You will be chewed up and spit out if you cannot keep up. Pre-read his notes and keep re-reading them through out and you should be fine. I rarely read the book and kept to his notes.
Dr. Duong is a great teacher. This class is hard but his teaching style is very effective if you are willing to do the required studying. People that fail his class is because they are not willing to do what they need to for sucess. He is very knowledgable and there to help you succeed. Any negative comments for him are from people that did not work
This professor is great! I learned so much in his A&P 223 and I am taking his 224 in the fall and can't wait. He has a passion for teaching and wants his students to learn. Work hard and you will do well!
His teaching style is fairly simple. He gives you notes, and then lectures on them. Your best bet is to ALWAYS be in class, and listen and comprehend rather then take notes (cause he gives you the notes) Understand it while in class and then review prior to the next class. This is a HARD class with A LOT of memorization.
Dr. Duong is one of the most challenging professrs I ave ever encountered. You must attend every class so that you can stay up on all of the information. While it is the most challenging class, his teaching style helps you to think outside the box. His class brings out the best or worst in a person. Gave me a Good sense about my future success.
Most insane class ever! Hard professor! I don't mind a challenge, but this was pre-med not Biol 223! I read his notes, studied flash cards from lecture, and read the text SEVERAL TIMES before exams. He makes the questions on exams so confusing. Most stressful class I have ever taken! I am a 4.0 student and struggled!
Good teacher, but too cocky for my liking. He is supposed to help those in need, but its been said before, when you ask a question he gets irritable. Promised the class extra credit, which we never recieved, and does not round grades. He tells you exactly what you need to know for the exams, but does the I clicker which is hard and rushed
I've taken Duong for 223 and 224. He's a no bs kind of guy, but he truly only wants his students to learn, take the material home with them, and really make it stick! He's an excellent professor, he just can have a hard way of showing it! Seriously...take him for as many as classes as you can!!!
Dr. Duong was a great professor. He was very straight forward about what he expected from students and why he was that way. He has lots of experience in the medical field and brings those experiences to class. I clicker tests were the only downside to the class. Study your notes and his notes and you will be fine.
I TOOK PROFESSOR DUONG DURING SUMMER 2012 FOR 223/224. IT WAS THE 6 WEEK CLASS AND INTENSE. ALL OF HIS EXAMS AND QUIZZES ARE WITH AN "ICLICKER". THE QUESTIONS HE ASKS DO NOT COME OUT OF THE BOOK. THEY ARE REAL LIFE QUESTIONS AND YOU HAVE TO KNOW HE MATERIAL AND HORMONES TO HAVE THE CORRECT COURSE OF TREATMENT. TO PASS COME TO EVERY CLASS & STUDY!
This professor is badass! & I mean that in a good way! He doesn't read off ppts/notes like the other teachers do. He speaks intelligently & is passionate about his students actually UNDERSTANDING the concept of the material. However, I don't recommend taking his BIOL 223 & 224 concurrently. It's a lot of work, & you wanna get the most out of him.
Hard class and a lot of info for a 6 week summer school class. Grade is based entirely off 5 exams and a couple quizzes. Dr. Duong was very clear on his expectations. He tells you what you do and don't need to know for exams. Expects you to be adults. He really teaches the material so you'll remember. "Make it quick and make it stick!"
Absolutely love how this professor teaches. He is funny, straight forward, and tells you what to expect of exams. He is intelligent and has lots of experience in this field, which he gladly shares w/the students. Go to class, study your notes along w/any guides he posts, and you will pass his class. There is no beating-around-the bush w/him.
Unapproachable during labs. Cuts 4 hour classes down to 2 1/2 hours and is the first to leave class. Trick questions on exams/quizzes and are taken through i-clicker in class, timed. 80 questions in 60 minutes. This is more of a self-study type class. He may be really knowledgeable, but maybe one of the worst instructors I've ever had.
This was an awesome class. I learned so much! He is very clear on what is expected out of each chapter and there are no surprises. A few quizzes and tests were done via iClicker in class, all the others are online. All tests are very straight forward.
Duong breaks your bad habits (as far as studying goes) and for that reason I am happy I took his course! He really wants you to understand the material, not just memorize your way through the class. His tests and quizzes can be challenging however he makes it clear if you aren't ready for a challenge, drop the class.
Now that the nightmare is over, I actually have a lot of respect for Dr. Duong. He is very intelligent and forced me to study really hard. I was kind of annoyed about how much he lectured on what not to do. Now having had more experience with the NSC study body, I am sure Dr. Duong had good reasons. Iclicker exams are stressful though!
You get what you put into his class. If you do what he says you will learn and succeed.
Good professor and straight forward.Took him in the summer it was very intense.Taking 224 at CSN for personal reasons and all I can say is that I am sorry and that I miss him and the Science program at NSC!!!
His exams are challenging because of the iclicker method. Duong lacks on enthusiasm for teaching but I was mainly disappointed for the 3 weeks of absence because we had to learn on our own. Grade is based on quizzes, exams, and case studies.
He is a wonderful professor and lecturer, but his tests are all multiple choice and you need at least a 75 to pass, so be prepared to study and memorize.
Confusing lectures, youtube everything yourself if you want to learn. You will have to be a master level test taker. He enjoys watching students struggle. There is no extra credit, so if you blow a test, you just came down a grade. I had a 90 on the final, knocked my grade down 2.4 % to an A- 92% is an A- in his class. Beware.
Dr. Duong is simply a remarkable teacher. A&P is a daunting challenge but he makes it as understandable and easy to relate to as possible. Doesn't waste your time with memorization that isn't important. Expresses things in a very streamlined and understandable way. Things make sense when you take his class. Would not want any other teacher!
Dr. Duong is a very intelligent teacher and knows the material that he lectures very well. This class is challenging, but what biology class isn't? Whenever i had questions about the notes while studying i would email him and would ALWAYS receive one back answering my questions. Put in the work, come to class and you'll do well.
Dr. Duong comes off as harsh but I think that's only to make you a better student. No grade is just going to be handed to you. If you are going to become a nurse or a doctor you've got to be willing to change any bad habits you may have as a student. This is the advice that he gave to me and I went with it. I wish I could take him for 224.
Dr Hon-Vu Duong is very clear on what the topics to look into. questions on the iclicker are a bit challenging, but no problem if you absorbed what he taught. it teaches you how think on your toes. 223 is challenging of course but THE DR. knows how to teach.. recommended if you want to learn in a dope way.
He is definitely the best Professor I have had up to this point. Lectures are extremely clear. He gives you notes on his lectures so you can pay attention instead of trying to copy everything down--only write specific things he asks you to know. Quiz every class to keep topics fresh. Very easy to fall behind, so stay on it! Highly recommend!!
I particularly enjoyed Dr. Duong's teachings. Because of his experience in his profession, he is able to provide real-life comparisons & applications. You must attend his lectures, read the text, and study the contents & quizzes that he provides online to be successful in this course. He is always willing to answer questions & provide further help.
He seems very serious at first. This is a TOUGH class so be prepared to study! He really wants his students to succeed and know the concepts/material. WARNING: He is does NOT round grades. I was .5 away from getting an A and he wouldn't round up. So I got a B. His teaching method is hard at first but it really does help keep you accountable.
He really cares about his students. It isn't an easy class but read the book listen lecture. Very straight forward. Would take him again!
Do not expect to pass in this professors class. All quizzes/exams are done with an iclicker, you do not have enough time to think. unable to go back and review your exam/quiz questions. You either know the answer or you do not. I would not recommend taking this professor unless you are ok taking mid-terms and finals with an iclicker.
WORST professor I have ever had by far. He breezes through material as if we are all doctors like him, and when asked questions regarding the material he responds rudely as if we are bothering him. His exams are difficult, which is expected; however, we are told to know specific topics only for them to not be tested on his exams. Bad communication!
Amazing 223 teacher. Information is clear and so are the expectations. This class is not easy so be prepared to do a lot of reading, but if you come to class and follow his power points and lectures he gives you all of the answers for the tests. All tests are done with iClicker so you either know the answer or you don't .
I think it's funny that some think Dr. Duong is a "horrible professor." I guess if ur lazy & expect 0 commitment, u'd b right. He is hilarious! All u have 2 do is attend/pay attention & read the material. If u don't wanna do it, u don't wanna be a nurse. Tests r reasonable so give the man a break! Take this class by itself so u won't b overwhelmed
Great professor, great lectures, hardest class I have ever taken. Class is strictly based on your exams. So if you fail 1-2 exams, you're toast! Anything under a 75% is fail grade, so hide ya kids and hide ya wives, cause this class is brutal! No lie, this 3 credit class is harder than taking 15 credits of other difficult classes in a semester .
Lectures are very helpful & gives plenty of tools to study from. Exams can be tough, but are doable. It's a tough class, but if you study hard you will pass. Many times he gives us practice questions that show up on exams and test. Everything you need to know is covered in lecture. He's not mean, just straightforward & honest. Tests on iclicker :(
He teaches difficult concepts in a way that's easy to understand. Many of his power point lectures are online, as well as practice quizzes & lecture notes, he gives you everything you need to do well in his class. Pay close attention to lectures, take notes and read the book & you're good. I-clicker exams take some getting used to, but not too hard
I absolutely loved Dr. Duong! This class is not an easy course and you have to actually work for your grade but he gives you many options to get & keep a good grade. He doesn't offer extra credit, he has no grading curve but if you do the work you will pass. He is funny and his lectures are awesome! He helps you understand the difficult subjects.
Great teacher. Straight and upfront about what to expect in class. Gives you great lectures and the rest is up to the student.
Its a hard subject and him racing through the slides doesn't help. If you ask a question he makes you feel stupid. He is funny guy don't get me wrong but he isn't a good professor. He has REALLY lengthy lectures and doesn't even hint on what to study for his exams. NO study guides just study the whole book.... Literally.
Dr. Duong is a great teacher and his lectures make tough material understandable and memorable. There's a lot of homework, but all of it is designed to reinforce what you're learning. Dr Duong provides SO many resources, including videos of his lectures to repeat and reinforce the material. He's not super warm and fuzzy, but you can learn a LOT.
Dr. Duong got thrown into teaching my class but he did a great job at keeping us informed with everything and catching us up with material. I was thankful that Dr. Duong taught our class
Dr. Duong is very smart and actually teaches the material. He provides study notes and those are helpful, and there are daily quizzes, so attendance is mandatory to pass this class. It was difficult at first getting used to exams and quizzes with the i-Clicker but you get used to it. He also assigns homework online, but it helps prepare for exams.
He lectures on everything you need to know to pass the exams. He posts everything online and is very clear about what you need to know for the exams and his daily quizzes. His daily quizzes are not hard if you pay attention, read the book before class, and take his online quizzes you will get at least 4/5. be prepared to work hard!
He has clear expectations from Day 1 so your grade is completely up to you. Lecture notes, old exams, practice quizzes are all available and very helpful. There is a lot of material and he makes it easy to understand. Super-organized class and routine. If you study, there aren't any surprises.
Loved this class! Dr. Duong is super-organized with clear expectations. You earn your grade -- as it should be. Stay ahead, be familiar with the day's lecture information, use all of the provided resources to reinforce and learn and you'll do great. Don't get behind, don't cut corners, don't skip class -- every point matters!
Fun class. Definitely a lot of material so be ready to read. Dr. Duong is a wonderful lecturer though. Also, his exams are exactly as expected. He tells you what he is looking for, and that is all you need to know.
Dr. Duong knows the material & is able to concisely break it down for students to easily understand, he makes his own exam questions which are mostly application based so know the material inside & out. Exams & daily quizzes are I-clicker which was the most difficult part of the class to adjust to. Listen to his online lectures for extra support.
Dr. Duong is a great professor. His class is very difficult, and it a lot of information. But he does give you all the necessary information and materials you need to pass, it's just up to you to utilize them. Attend class, ask questions and READ HIS LECTURE NOTES. And you should pass the class, he is always willing to help you!
He provides all the required during lecture. There are daily clicker quizzes at the beginning of each lecture so make sure you are not late to class. Homework includes Mastering Biology and case studies. Exams are given via the clicker. Practicals are an easy A and only include labeling questions. Provides extra study material online.
Very organized, interesting and understandable lectures. He is clear and explains the material very well. Gives a lot of homework, but the homework helps you on the exams. Does not provide feedback on test, so you can't understand why you got certain question wrong. Gives daily quizzes on the iclicker , so don't be late or skip class.
FYI - Nevada's grading system is different from CSN/UNLV. A 92% is and A! so a 80% is a C! I've never worked so hard for a B before. He uses the IClicker to test. Try not to pay attention to how many you get wrong! It makes . ATTEND LECTURE. he goes over almost everything that he tests on (even pay attention to his side stories)
Tough at first but amazing professor. Loves what he does. Lectures are thorough. Record the lectures bc everything he says is on the exam! will not test u on something he didnt lecture. provides SO much study material online. Write everything from his ppt! Daily miniquizes, 4-5 exams, a midterm and final. The effort you put into studying WILL SHOW
Amazing teacher but you will work for your grade. I have take him for bio223/224. He is very knowledgable and organized. Tells you exactly what he expects from you. Pay attention in class and study the lecture notes online. Wish he was still teaching PATHO!! He prepares you for the real world aka nursing school ;)
Dr. Duong is an amazing professsor. I have taken him for both 223 and 244 and I don't regret it, I have learned so much. He normally gives out 6 quizzes via iClicker and a practical following each. 5 question quizzes before each lecture, and a worksheet due before every quiz. He will never test you on something he did not discuss in class.
He lets you know his expectations from the beginning, he has daily quizzes so it's important to attend his class. All quizzes and exams are on the clicker except for the practicals. He will make you work for your grade, no extra credits, but he is an amazing professor when it comes to explaining the subject. I will be taking him again for 224
This is not an Easy A class but you really learn the material, which is beyond important for biology/nursing majors. Dr. Duong is very clear on whats expected and gives you all the study material you need online. Class is mandatoryhis exams/daily quizzes are based on info he specifically goes over. When you get that A, you feel so good!
Dr Duong is a great professor. There are weekly quizzes in this class. Listen carefully in lectures, then you will be able to figure out the hot topics. Also go over those topics in the book for more in depth explanations. There is a group presentation that requires making 20 PP slides & another group project where you have to design concept maps.
Dr. Doung was tough! His grading scale is higher than any other instructor. My 87% would have earned a B+ in most classes, no with him it's a B. You get a 90% and get a B+ that's rough! He is really smart and the lectures are really good. The Mastering HW is terrible and repeadative, but it can help your grade. The daily quizzes are helpful.
He is a great professor! Nurse 337 is tough and you need to be ready to work hard. If you take his advice, pay attention in class and complete all assignments you will be fine.
By lecture heavy.. the lectures are key to this entire class! If you aren't recording the lectures you're going to miss test questions. Two online chapter tests a chapter, in class test every chapter and 4 tests including final. Definitely a time consuming class but you will learn and retain which isn't always common
Great teacher! Fair. Makes you earn your grade! Pay attention to the lectures and RECORD the lectures! Put in the time and you will get the grade. Talk to the professor of you need help.
Dr. Duong is a tough professor but you will learn a LOT. All exams are done on i-clicker which takes some getting used to. Provides you with everything you need to earn an A, but you HAVE to put in the work. His grading scale is rough; you won't have an A- or above in the class unless you get at least a 92%.... 90-91.5% is a B+
This class has a LOT of lecture content. The test is critical thinking (not memorization) and is on iclicker. There is a quiz every day about the lecture from the previous class. There is a good amount of assignments. The teacher is very nice and has good lectures. It is definitely a lot, but not impossible if you work a little each day!
Dr. Duong is a phenomenal instructor. He is clear on is expectations and provides you with all the tools that you will need to succeed in his class. It is up to you to put in the work and actually study. His teaching style really worked for me, I learned & retained so much information. 10/10 would take again.
Bio 223 students be prepared to STUDY STUDY STUDY. This is not an easy A or even an easy B class. This was the hardest I have ever worked for a B, but I feel like I learned SO much from taking his class. He really prepares you for the medical field. Read the notes before class, watch the lectures, and complete every assignment; it all adds up.
The Dr. can be demanding in coursework, but it is A&P, so already there is a ton of content. He does great, by delivering cut to the bone lectures, tells you what you need to know with very little fluff. PAY ATTENTION. He's setting you up for the next level. Fantastic professor.
BIO223&224 is not easy on it's own. He did a great job teaching the course. I did not just learn anatomy during the summer semester but I learned new study techniques that will follow me for the rest of my life. One of the few professors that I walked out remembering everything due to teaching style. Not easy but highly recommend. He GREAT.
Dr. Duong is a wonderful professor. He has a no-fluff approach to his lectures. He offers his power points which was very helpful when it came to studying for his exams. 70% of your grade is based on exams so you really have to study for a good grade. Class also includes 1 group project (members are picked randomly). Take Dr. Duong!
Iclicker used for all quizzes/tests. Very clear and straight to the point. Breaks things down to easily understand concepts. Such a great teacher! As long as you pay attention during his lectures and review it, you should do well. Gives notes to study from as well.
Nurs 337 Dr. Duong grading policy is a hard. Passing or failing is based on meeting a criteria 75% of his 4 exams which is 70% of grade. If you've completed any other assignment which 30% of grade it WILL NOT be included in your final grade unless youve met the 75% of all exams. Less that 75% your grade will be average of 4 exams only.
For clarification and to be fair, the grading scale is not Dr. Duong's but that of the School of Nursing! He is fair and the course is not for the faint of heart.
Not an Easy A class as it shouldn't be. His lectures make sense. There is a lot of studying. You pretty much determine your own grade with how much you put into learning the material. He has practice quizzes and exams that sew extremely helpful.
He is an amazing professor, after taking 223 with him I will now be taking 224 with him because I really enjoyed his teaching style once I got used to it. I would have gotten an A but with a whole bunch of personal stuff that I let get in my way it affected my grade. Don't be afraid to ask questions or speak up if you don't understand things.
Daily quizzes on lectures through a program called iclickers. Very great in giving lectures and does not just read off slides. Must study for this class more then 6 hours a week. Learned a lot from the professor I would have done better if I would have studied more.
Took Bio223 in the Fall with Dr. Duong. I really enjoyed his teaching style. It's very organized and well structured. The iclicker was a nerve wrecking experience in the beginning but I quickly got used to it and now I've grown to appreciate it. There's less of a chance to change your answer and get the question wrong. You do have to commit time
Dr. Duong isn't for the fainthearted. He requires you to put the study time in to pass his class. He does give you the tools to do so. He has his lectures recorded so you can access it as many times as you need too. If it's in his lecture it's on his test. TESTING** all his tests are on iClicker.
Professor Duong is the absolute best for 223. While his straight to the point attitude has the potential to offend some students, he is just preparing future nursing students for the real world. He WILL challenge you, but provides all of the tools you need to succeed. He is clear in what he asks from students, and responds promptly. Uses iclicker.
4 exams worth 70% of your grade. Weekly quizzes over weekly material. Group project and concept maps. Understand things conceptually and youll be fine. If youre used to memorization, you wont pass. Duong puts effort into his lectures and expects you to put effort into learning.
Great Professor, I'm not and iClicker testing fan. If you like 80 question exams in 1 hour followed immediately with a Lab practical 40-50 questions in 30 minutes this could be class. I like how he tells you to quit writing and listen to the concept.
He is a wonderful professor. Weekly quizzes using iclickers. His quote is you either know it or you dont. He puts in a lot of effort in his lectures so he expects you to do the same. Grading is done within a couple of hours which is great. I would recommend for any students aiming for nursing.
I would advise you to read the chapter before lecture, review his notes, then formulate any questions you have and bring them to lecture and more than likely your question will be answered during lecture. He's a great professor.
Dr Duong is the absolute best professor, though you will have to work hard for a good grade. He is extremely knowledgeable and very quick to respond. All of the assignments and exams are clearly posted and he is available to students. If your looking for an easy "A" look somewhere else, though if you want to learn take Dr Duong, he is the best.
Dr Duong is difficult but a great teacher. He is lecture heavy but the lectures are engaging. He makes you work for your grade but he actually cares about the students understanding.
Exam questions mostly come from lectures so listen to them a few times, he records them. Don't read the entire book but read sections you need help understanding. He does not try to trick you on his tests. His lectures are very informative and engaging. TAKE HIS CLASS!
Dr. Duong is the best! Although, there are a lot of assignments that must be completed prior to his exams: multiple quizzes, a pretest, case study, and a crossword puzzle. His lectures are interesting and are directly related to his exams. There are no surprises on his exams. This class is NOT a memorization class but rather, critical thinking.
I loved this class! It is a hard class but you definitely learn a lot. There are many quizzes, pretest, and case studies but they all help with the exams. He is lecture heavy, replies very fast, and really wants to help you learn. His lectures are interesting and are a clear reflection of what the exam is like. Prepare to study a lot! Worth it!
This class is absolutely awful. Others commented that the ones who say it's bad are the ones who are lazy. However, that is not the case. Personally, I studied so much for the exams and I still failed them. This class is so challenging it's not even funny.
I have had Dr. Duong for BIO 223, BIO 224, and now in the nursing program NURS 337. He is an incredibly competent professor that utilizes his medical doctor background to enhance his lectures. As long as you pay attention to his lectures you should have no problem getting As and Bs. With just a bit more effort I could have got an A. Take him!
Dr. Duong is an amazing professor. This class is challenging but 100% doable! This class consists of 4 exams, a group project, weekly quizzes, concept maps, and case studies. Dr. Duong's lectures are engaging and interesting. Pathophysiology is a challenging course but Dr. Duong makes it so fun! I recommend studying the ppt and reading the txtbook.
Dr. Duong is by far one of the best professors I have ever had. He makes it his goal to learn your name and make you feel more than a student, he also sees potential in all his students and he really wants everyone to succeed and makes his classes as interesting as possible. I 100% recommend him to anyone taking a biology class
Awesome Prof. As a csn transfer student, I was skeptical on how he was going to teach but he was a very cool. 4 exams, one group project and case studies. Don't burn out at the very end. No textbook needed and I only used his PPTs! Write down the things he says that aren't on the PPT. I would take A&P with him for my prereqs.
Words can not describe how amazing Dr. Duong is as a professor. He is very knowledgeable, passionate, and funny. Gives a lot a real-life scenarios, which makes it easier to understand. Came into the course believing it was a difficult class, but don't let other responses scare you. He cares and will help you understand the material.
Take good notes in his lecture. Don't only focus only on the PowerPoints but also focus on what he says during. You will have tons of quizzes and homework. He requires MyLab and Case studies workbook. Exams are difficult. He will not tell you which topics to focus on so study everything from top to bottom
Duong is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to Patho. However, his exams seem skewed and it feels more like a test-taking strategy course than anything else. Be prepared to study for this class more than anything else you've ever studied in your life, and to still show up with things you've never seen before. The effort required to pass is wild.
AMAZING PROF. He makes any bio easy to comprehend. He will make you EARN your grade but only wants you to succeed. He is intimidating but TRUST me you will enjoy his material.
My theory is do not take science classes with MDs. These are doctors that tried their life to become a doctor and then failed to become one, now became professors to pay their debt and get revenge. I did not learn a single word from him If u are a good memorizer take him, because his class is not about understanding it is all about memorizing.
Dr Duong is an amazing professor, probably one of the best professors I've taken. His lectures are very engaging. Yes this class is hard, it's A&P, but as long as you work hard and study you can get an A. I was taking 4 other classes and was able to do really well. He is also very helpful if you have any questions. Highly recommend!
Dr. Duong is an amazing and straight forward professor. He prepares you well for his practical's. They are hard and require many study hours, so be prepared. I had a family emergency in between and was not able to pass with a higher grade - totally on me. I would 100% recommend.
This will most likely be the most challenging class for 1st semester nursing. Study ahead of time and use the lecture slides. SHOW UP to class & pay attention. He elaborates on some slides for lecture, so take notes, it will be on your exam. Go to SI sessions. Study the quiz questions, some reappear on exams. Quiz yourself, it helps a lot!
His lectures are necessary to attend. Read the modules in the textbook before coming to class to lock in his lectures. Read the textbook over and over again. His class is so organized that you will notice a pattern in his teachings. Great professor. 100% recommended. A&P is generally a difficult course to master
You set yourself up for success if you've also taken him for BIO223 & BIO224. He does take it up a notch with NURS337 but that's to be expected. Put in the work to read his slides and understand the concepts so you can pass the class.
If you get Dr. Duong, you're lucky! He makes tough Patho manageable. Use lecture slides & practice quizzes—don't cram, start a week before. Exams are fair but averages matter. He explains clearly, cares for students, and truly is one of the best professors you'll have!
Take him for BIO223 and 224 if you plan on applying to the nursing program, he's the only Pathophysiology professor. That way you're used to his style of teaching. All the info on the exams come from his slides, which comes from the textbook. Don't be afraid to ask questions, he's knows his stuff. He doesn't do group projects, absolutely wonderful.
