She is a really bad teacher. She is very smart but cannot teach to save herself. Avoid her if possible. Also she is very hard to understand.

Her expectation were very unrealistic. She will send your GPA to hell and leave you wondering why this class is required. She is a very bright woman, and knows a lot about her subject but she cannot teach her way out of a paper bag. Tests were very hard. Many assignments.

She is a very "nice" teacher and is fun; however that doesn't enhance her inability to teach clearly. She cares and tries to teach but the lesson is always mixed up, confusing, and cannot be understood. People leave the class wondering what just happened. Contradicts the text a lot; makes it hard to know what to know. Wouldn't recommend her.

Avoid this class if you can!! She is a "nice" teacher and is fun. however, she degrades students, asks if they're stupid, retarded, or have ADD. Her lessons are always confusing. She contradicts the text a lot and will mark you wrong if you answer with information from text. She also co-teaches with Kazman, so you can't escape

Chen is scatterbrained, talks very poor english, and you learn nothing from her class, just zone out when she is talking and then save your brain when kazman teaches (they share the class). I recommend finding another Bus 311 teacher.

The only real problem with her is that she's completely insane. She pretends to care about we have to say and it takes about an hour for her to explain what a process is. This class can get pretty inconsistent as well because her and her husband team teach and so you get two different teachers all semester long. BEWARE OF THE FINAL GROUP PROJECT

The worst professor and class I have ever had at UH Manoa. Has no office hours. Quizzes are fill in the blank & short answer. HW and assignments are vague. Has a long list of class policies and rules on class website. Unrealistic expectations of her students. Avoid taking her unless you are an IT major.

How is she a professor? Yes she is very smart, however she is not willing to help struggling students, she gives you a different answer anytime you ask a question and she expects you to bascially be as perfect as you would in the business world even though you are in an intro course. She is very inappropriate and degrading of students. AVIOD!!!!!!

Do NOT take her if you can avoid it. Not helpful, not clear, but has high expectations and assigns more - and more difficult - work than certain other 311 options. No exams, but the quizzes require memorizing minute details. Projects are difficult, labor-intensive, require outside knowledge to do well on, and are accompanied by research papers.

This has been my largest academic regret in my college career I had some bad and unhelpful professors but Chen puts it to a whole new level. Chen is knowledgeable on makeup and 5 inch heels. I regret that I took this course despite the warnings. If someone says take her they are high and/or deliberately want you to experience a lot of stress

Completely ruined a class I was very interested in. Incredibly condescending towards students. HUGE ego, always talks about herself. Says she is very helpful, yet when asked for help she tells you to get help from other students. So unfortunate she is the only option for ITM354.

Avoid her at all costs. If you are in your last semester and only need this class, I would still recommend not taking her class. She thinks she know's everything and only her way is right. When we asked her for help on our group project she did not give us any help at all. She is very unclear when trying to communicate to the class about work.

Dr. Chen has a wealth of knowledge when it comes to database systems and big data. Unfortunately she cannot effectively communicate that in the classroom. She employs an archaic teaching method that does not translate well to the current classroom environment, which is "yell at you until you get it right." Has no verbal filter- offends everybody

Honestly one of the worst professors I've had. Not available to help students (considers additional help cheating). She is rude and has absolutely no filter. Does not do a good job conveying material, and expects you to JUST KNOW things. Doesn't cover everything on tests and assignments during lectures. Avoid taking this class if you can

Terrible at explaining, no filter, intensely harsh grader, and no sympathy for personal schedules. If you work to put yourself through school definitely avoid, the group project is so intensive that if you can't dedicate 100% of your time to it, you'll most likely fail. This isn't an into class, if you want to learn the basics choose anyone else.

What else is there to say, we're forced to take her because she's the only option. Only 3 students in her class last semester, blames the summer professor instead of looking at her own horrible lecture and teaching methods. Cares more about her quizzes and poorly explained project than actually teaching us skills. Thank god it's my last semester.

You will regret if you take. Notes never make sense because she is all over the place. Everything is pure memorization. She doesn't teach everything we need for the assignments and yells at us when we don't understand. Expects everyone to get A's when she can't even teach well. Very hard grader and hard to understand what she is saying.

I believe respect is earned both ways, but she isn't sympathetic for her students. Don't expect to understand the material since lectures are all over the place and everything is based on memorization. She loves to use examples highlighting her monetary status and is VERY offensive. Her passion is there, but it was a toxic environment for me.

She is a very knowledgeable in her field of study but she does not know how to teach in the slightest. She will talk about herself constantly and is hard to understand at times. She skips all over the place in her lectures. Can be very offensive to her students with no remorse.

If she's not right, she'll make herself right. Her words are absolute. She will do what is necessary to establish her dominance. Her lectures are all over the place. She barely teaches us on how to do the homework, and assignments. The class reached out for help by asking questions, and says I'm always available, but doesn't help us... dreadful.

U have a 3 major projects and 10 quizzes. If u average an "A" from all 10 quizzes, u won't need to take the final. I would just study for the 10 quizzes (which are not cumulative) and do "OK" for the projects to receive an "A" in this class. ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY. In order to ace quizzes, u must take good notes in class. Just play her game.

AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!!! Worst class I've ever taken. Professor not available outside of class, hard to understand lectures. Gave no helpful feedback on the final project. The only thing I've learned from this class after showing up every day & being attentive was that Chanel is better than Coach. yep. Wish I had more space to complain. ya feel.

AVOID HER IF YOU CAN. Worst professor I've ever had in my life, not even joking like all these projects and quizzes drive you nuts, you may not pass even you attend the class EVERY DAY! she CHECKS spellings for all the quizzes and assignment, EVERY SINGLE LETTER, no partial credit allowed, you get a full point deducted if you wrote a letter wrong.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS, my friend. Don't ever challenge this class unless your IQ is over 200 or some kind of Genius. no other professors? JUST WAIT FOR NEXT SEMESTER EVEN IF REQUIRED.

"Quizzess" are mini tests with not enough time. Need to memorize, over understanding. Harsh grading on everything. Do everything possible to take another professor.

Her "quiz" are mini exams with each ranging from 30-70 points. She tells you whats gonna be on those quiz. I would suggest voice recording her lectures so you'll have something to refer to when you're trying to understand her during lectures. She does have a thick accents so its hard to understand her sometimes. Study those quiz for the final exam!

HORRIBLE. Very self-centered. Talks about herself and all the luxury things she owns, oh but then will briefly say something thats going to be on the quiz and quickly moves on. Accent is very heavy, she can hardly say half the words and stutters. SUPER lecture heavy. Doesn't say exactly what is expected. OH AND YOU CANT USE THE BATHROOM!!! AVOID

Id rather drop out of college and live homeless in waikiki than have to listen to her talk about being rich, having successful ex students that probably hate her, and see her act like an import model everyday. She wanted to do marketing but failed miserably, she takes her regrets out on her students by lecturing about marketing and not the material

In all honesty this class was the hardest I've ever taken. It was a horrible semester. I couldn't focus on any other class except for this very one. I barely passed other classes because this class was so demanding. Attendance is MANDATORY, quizzes are based off of info she says, & you're never right. It makes you wonder if Shidler is worth it.

She is the worst teacher!!! She told me to drop out of her class because I didn't have a printer and UH business department does not care that she it terrible because she has tenure. On the first day of class (online) she calls you out and even admits that she's picking on you. Very disrespectful and from this one class I could already tell that she loves to talk about herself. All the bad reviews so far are all justified and to save myself from further stress, I am for sure dropping this class

In all seriousness, this is the worst teacher I have had in my life in all of levels of education I have taken. In terms of the class, if you come to class everyday and really pay attention, put in the work she asks, you will get an A. Your performance in this class will be straight forward, just play her game. But her as a teacher, horrible.

Professor Chen is by far the WORST professor I have ever had. She treats herself as if she is gold and treats everyone else as if they are coal. Her instruction is so specific yet so vague which causes more confusion than you would ever expect. For attendance, if you miss even a SINGLE CLASS your grade is cut by 50%. I absolutely hated this class.

Overall the worst instructor I've ever had. Class time would be more about learning about her personal life and not class materials. She yells at her students when they try to back up their answers, and gets furious if no one knows the answer. Class decreased to half due to people dropping. Gives nothing to go off of when doing any work.

Absolute worst professor I've ever had the displeasure of dealing with. Extremely rude and refuses to listen to any feedback. To put this into perspective, we had a petition sent to the dean with 95% of the class' signatures by day 3. Also has a tendency to get angry and use rather aggressive language towards students. Would not recommend, if you want an IT degree don't go to Shidler for it.

Largest academic regret ever despite the warnings I had this bad mentality of "gotta graduate now".The cost you will pay exceeds the semester you may save.I'm surprised she is still allowed to teach, but people are still registering.I encourage everyone that cares, to not register for her.If she gets 0 students enrolled, it will send a message.

I'm surprised she is still allowed to teach. Lectures were VERY vague, projects were unclear, & grading was harsh. Lectures & assignments did not line up with textbook. Little to no instruction or help from Prof Chen. I felt defeated taking this class, so I withdrew and audited with another Prof. & received an A. Turns out she is the problem lol

Hard to understand and says everything is extra credit when it is actually just normal credit. To be fair this review was written the second week of class so hopefully class gets easier throughout the semester

If you can, do NOT take Hong-Mei. The only good thing I can say is that she does care for her students, but at the same time, makes it almost impossible for them to succeed in her class. Answers for exam questions are only based on her lectures, not on the chapter readings. Her assignments are way too complex and time-consuming for a 311 course.

One day when Im in the toughest moment in my life, I should recall this course and motivate myself 'If I could survive this woman, then I could survive anything!' Thank you Dr Chen

It's a shame that Chen ruins the MIS major. She went on sabbatical cuz of her complaint issues and came back even more sure that we are all the problem, never herself. I feel like I'm in an abusive relationship the way my physical & mental health has declined & I haven't seen my friends in weeks. There's no glory in suffering, take in the summer.

This class has many issues, the biggest one being the lack of clear guidelines. Often times you do not know if you are studying the right material because Chen refuses to give out answer keys, she will verbally say the answers to some questions and then mark them wrong later. Dr. Chen made a difficult learning environment. Do not take this class.

Her tests are straight up memorization. Extra credit is mandatory. If you are her favorite, you will thrive, if not you will SUFFER. She has threatened to kill students in class. Do not ask questions unless you have a good idea of her mood. Never show weakness. EVER. Her mood can only be described as bipolar.

I have NO CLUE what class was about. makes class unbearabl. She gives very unclear guidelines for projects. Dont even think about reporting her though, youll get no where!
