take the hardest graph ever, add 50 more lines to it. Thats your tests.
Worst teacher ever...has no clue what hes talking about, and won't do anything to help his students
This man is such a bad teacher that i have nightmares about him.
worst teacher ever...cannot understand him...doesn't communicate well...doesn't present information clearly...extremely unhelpful...i think he has a lisp on top of the accent!
Easy to keep you're grades up because he gives so much extra credit but he is the worst teacher ever! He is terrible at explaining things and god forbid you do something wrong and you end up with a black mark by your name in his grade book.
this is one of my favorite people in the world. he is such a good soul and he is hilarious. i didn't learn too much, but i got an A in the class due to 18 points extra credit on my final grade. how could you not love him. Nguyen for President.
dude is my boy, but if you want a good grade don't take him, his quizes suck!
Has a ridiculous grading system.
Very hard to understand and always seems to stray from questions. If you want an interesting experience this is the class
straight up..this guy sucks ast teaching..STAY AWAY FROM HIM..
probably in hiroshima when they dropped the bomb.. stares at the board and is so repetitive its insane.. wastes half of the class and changes policies from test to test.. gives alot of extra credit.. i wonder why.. i have to question how he got a degree..
Takes 5 mins to start class and keeps u five mins after. I sit in class and wonder how a university can let a man like this teach. He is an embarressment. Im 100% serious
The word too bad is not enough to explain this teacher, in all my life I haven’t met a teacher like this, his English is too bad and his writing is not clear. I am just wondering how come he ends up in teaching in an American university.
Just plain unfair. Easily distracted from the material. Expects students to teach themselves.
Teacher is not stimulating, especially at 9 am. Lecture notes are nothing like the material for quizzes/test. Make sure you go on Blackboard EVERYDAY (he keeps track) If you ENJOY studying EVERY thursday night for a quiz/test, take him.
NEVER EVER TAKE THIS MAN.... He is hard to understand and doesn't explain anything that is on the tests or quizzes. He also gives you a quiz on something you learned 3 weeks before. If you like taking a quiz every friday take this man but i suggest you switch out as soon as possible.
I read everyones ratings before taking the class. i figured i could just study and still get an A. please don't follow in my footsteps. he doesn't speak english- can somebody tell me how he is a full professor? i would love to know. i'll pay someone to tutor him in English. seriously.
He is not good at all. Only take him if you would like to fail. Our class has a D average
He isn't a good teacher at all, the class average is a D, don't take his class unless you wan't to fail.
He is a horrible teacher and his tests are impossible. He's like eating bad chinese food.

quizes are impossible and same with the tests

Dude, he's really not that bad. YES he's unclear. YES his tests are hard, but still if you go to class and participate it'll work heavily in your favor. There's a HUGE curve so I don't know what people are talking about. Better than Ghosh. His bad English makes him go slower which helps students.

Hong is terrible. I learned nothing in this class. He seems very confused which may be a result from a learning disability problem. If you ask him for help he will confuse you more. How did this man get tenured. Someone should look into that. He is at the top of the list for the worst professorinKSO
Let me save you all the time of taking the class and summarize his entire semester lecture right now. "ummm....well......umm.....well.......ok.......let me see......umm....well....."
Ya gotta love Hong. He spends half the class just surfing Blackboard and explaining how to use it - everyday! Tests aren't too bad, but nothing on the tests comes from the lectures - do the review problems and you're golden. Long Live Hong V.
Horrible. Econ majors get screwed, didn't learn anything. Some of the funniest college stories tho come from him...moron
even if you can understand his accent, you'd better already know everything before you get in that classroom. he's not a very good TEACHER, although there's no denying that he's very intelligent.
Dude, this guy is the best!! u go to class only to piss away an hour of your day but if ur just having a****ty day, HONG makes it better!!! bad english, hilarious stories, you can make fun of him to his face and he just laughs like he doesn't understand! how can u hate a teacher like that!!!! the quizzes and tests are super easy, just do aplia
he isnt that bad yeah he is unclear but he goes very slow and his test and quizzes have such huge curves i got all the questions wrong and still got a 3.5 out of 5...i think he is way better then ghosh from what i hear about ghosh
dosen't speak english

TERRIBLE...cant teach, and cant even speak english....it takes him forever to put together a sentance and half of the times never even finishes his sentances. dont take him, and if you do, drop it.
if you do the aplia assignments and read the book, you'll do fine. he's a nice guy and his quizes are easy.
In order to fully appreciate Dr. Nguyen you have to have a good understanding of economics. He simply doesn't teach, and all studying is left up to the student. If are good at teaching yourself economics, this is the perfect course.
Hong is the man
I am an economics major and I lost a whole semester becuase this man CANNOT teach. Grades on attendence because everyone does poorly on the exams.
This guy's a moron. I hate him. He has favorites. My dad is an economics professor and says his teaching is wrong most of the time.
Good prof. You have to do a fair bit of reading on top of the course to understand but he is very helpful if you have questions. Challenging but fair exams and test.
Great teacher...great person. Far better than Ghosh. Just study and its an easy A or A-.
Nguyen is an interesting teacher. Assignments every other week. Quizzes once a month. Tests twice a semester. He gives multiple chances for extra credit and awards bonus points at the end of the semester for consistent participation and attendance. Easier than Ghosh. Not a bad guy overall, just different.
No clear word in his mouth, no clear idea in his brain.
pretty good guy, but not a great teacher. i didnt learn a whole lot, and the online assignments are annoying. ghosh is a far better teacher.
I tend to agree with the fact that he may play favorites, but he really is a decent guy. His tests may be hard but, if you ask him questions he'll help you. His accent isn't TERRIBLE, but it does certainly slow down his teaching. I haven't seen much of a curve yet, but I hope to see one soon. I've been working my ass off to get the B I have..
Very boring class mostly lecture which you cant understand. You use an online program called APLIA for HW, to do it each week is 20% of your grade. Attendance is 10%, Midterm 30%, and Final is 40%. The only 2 tests are the midterm and final. Nguyen is a very nice guy very confusing though don't abuse your laptop privileges and GET A TUTOR!!
Dr Nguyen is almost certainly the worst teacher in our business school. I'm not sure how well you'll do in the class but you certainly won't learn anything; possibly other than how to drown out the dozens of awkward pauses in his lectures. His tests are difficult to impossible and you'll be lucky to escape the class with your sanity intact.
Really boring class. I didn't like that for our class he made the midterm 35% of our grade, the final 55% and participation/attendance 10%. I felt like I had to teach myself the material so I got a tutor. If you visit him during his office hours and attend class (show that you are trying) he will curve your grade in the end.
Although Nguyen is the man, he should not teach any classes at all, especially at the college level. He takes forever to try to get his point across. In the end, however, he never gets the point across anyway. His guidelines for assignments are very unclear. His tests are reasonable, but be ready to teach yourself everything. Don't take!
Statistics is not a difficult course. However your grade in this class depends entirely on your understanding of a computer program call Eviews 7. Professor Nguyen pronounced as (win) is terrible at explaining things. He takes forever. Bottom line donâ??t take his class. Take regular STAT.
If he is the only option for a course, change your major.
Worst teacher I've ever had. For our midterm grades one student from Sweden had a B, one from Spain had an A, and everyone else had a C- or lower. Put an absurd amount of time into this class and can't earn a good grade. Terrible instructions. Have to use his office hours to even get an idea of what to do.
Nguyen is the worst thing to happen to Scranton since the end of the coal mining era. You can't avoid him if you major in Economics; switch to Finance. If you really love Econ, switch schools.
He is by far the worst teacher I have ever had. He's no qualified to teach this class and I could do a better job of teaching it. His quizzes were easy because they were online and easy to find the answers, but the midterm and final were absolutely impossible.
He tries to be a good professor but he is awkward and confusing. He just can't teach a class. I just couldn't pay attention to him. His notes are similar to the online book but if you use his notes on the quizzes it won't make sense. The work seems it would be very easy if you understand but it is hard to understand him.
Don't take him. Awful teacher. Language barrier is still present. He doesn't understand the context of a question, but don't forget the added language barrier! Avoid at all costs. Have to meet with him weekly to do well. Need to participate in class. All exams are CUMULATIVE, which literally makes them impossible.
Hong Nguyen is the man! He curves all of his tests and students end up with a B-. Show up to class and show him you are trying and you will get a good grade no matter what you get on tests.
Hong Nguyen gets a bad rap by past students, but I can promise you from experience that this was the best class I have taken all semester. It is one of the funniest classes to take as Dr. Nguyen has a great sense of humor. Sure, you will leave every class confused but you will most likely still get a B no matter what.
I do not recommend him at all. He is generally a nice guy, but is easily one of the worst professors I've ever had. He takes a long time to explain things and even when he does explain things, they aren't very clear at all. He does have an accent, but it is easy to understand. The midterm and final were impossible. 2/10 would not recommend.
I would not take this man. He tries to make it seem simple but he talks in circles and seems like he has no clue what he's even talking about. You basically are teaching yourself because he doesn't teach the same criteria that other teachers are doing with their classes, so if you wanna pass and actually learn do not take hong.
You have a quiz online due every sunday but they're actually hard and you can't find the answers online. Class is insanely boring and you can only miss 2. His grading is lenient but his midterm and final are pretty hard. I would never take this class again even if I was getting paid. Definitely do not recommend
lANGUAGE BARRIER TERRIBLE. can barely ever get a clear thought through and has many awkward pauses.
Hong Nguyen gets such a bad rating for no reason. He is not the best teacher but he gives you a list of problems to do for the midterm and the final. If you complete these problems (the answers are online) you will know exactly whats on the midterm and final. Most of the time the problems are identical on the test. His grading scale is also easy.
He's nice but he doesn't understand any questions kids ask and he's bad at explaining things. honestly the only reason I would take him again was because all you had to do was read and take the online quizzes. It's not hard, just annoying and monotonous. It's an easy first year class just make sure you schedule it when you can go to every class.
Professor Nguyen is a good man. He has quizzes and learning curves due every tuesday and sunday, which are easy and the answers are online. The place where you're grade can plummet is attendance and the in-class tests, which are very challenging and require a lot of reading and self-teaching of the material he expects you to know, which is hard.
Dr. Hong is a good professor. You cannot use a laptop to take notes which sucks. Attendance is apart grade along with participating at least five times per the semester. The quizzes are online so you have one week to do them and learning curves are a week to do too but those easy. The textbook needed is just an online code. Only midterm and final.
Dr. Hong is the worst professor in Scranton. His classes drag on and I find myself looking at the clock every 5 minutes. His grading technique is awful, as he simply gives you a letter without any details on how you got your grade. Stats is boring as it is and he doesn't make it any more interesting with his monotone lectures.
This class is a NIGHTMARE. he is so difficult and there are only two exams.
Professor Nguyen is a wonderful guy. The class can be a bit difficult at times and there is a decent hand of memorization and self-teaching. But it IS economics so that is to be expected. Overall, I took him for two semesters and would take him again. He's a fair man to serious students. Just don't expect to bs around and still get a decent grade.
Awful. He forces you to use Macmillan's Launchpad system which is worse than webassign. His speech is unintelligible, and not because of his accent, but because he can't structure sentences and ends up talking in circles for 75 minutes. He can't answer questions either due to the language barrier. If you can avoid him, do it.
He isn't that bad of a professor. His grading scheme is pretty easy. A 46% or below is an F so you have a lot of chances to bring your grade up. Half of the test is usually questions from the quizzes he gives, the second part of the exam is what you have to work for. Overall a great professor. Would definitely take him again.
I took Professor Nguyen Spring semester of 2020. Due to the coronavirus the second half of the semester took place entirely online. It was a horrible experience. He was the only professor I had that just stopped lecturing. He uploaded abbreviated versions of his in class powerpoints and told us to read the textbook. He just stopped teaching.
Never again
75 minute classes, doesn't teach anything within that time. Deducts participation grade if you answer a question wrong in class. Language barrier is present. Goes on long tangents that aren't helpful to learning. The textbook (macmillian) is terrible at explaining answers. Terribly monotone in lecture. Do yourself a favor and never take his class.
Dr. Nguyen is an amazing professor for any intro level and intermediate economics courses. There is a price to pay for the online work but it is worth every penny.
Overall, he is an okay professor. He gives weekly quizzes and homework assignments but they are all online. Only two tests are midterm and final, they are taken on your laptop but in person. You probably won't learn anything in his actual class, mostly from the textbook. He grades attendance and participation.
He sometimes can get confuses when speaking, but if you email him he will write everything correctly. He tells you what questions will be on the quiz WHICH is online. He has office hours and zoom options as well. He tells you what to study and really no excuses to do bad in his class. Great person and great teacher
Great Professor. Quizzes and homework are taken online. Lectures can seem very long, but it is worth paying attention. Make sure to participate in class at least 5 times. He is available outside of class with zoom and in-person office hours. Professor Nguyen is very helpful when you email him and understanding, would 100% take him again.
Awful teacher do not take
Hong is extremely rude to students, the language barrier is very present, and he expects your life to be devoted to this one class. He only has two tests the whole year and each has 3 questions on it. Fail? Don't worry you'll be just like everyone else since the median test grades are always in the 50's. 70k a year school for this? Ok. Run far away
GET ME OUT GET ME OUT FREE ME
Nguyen is a nice guy but cannot teach a class. His English is not good so he speaks extremely slow and he does not cover the material on the tests. Avoid if possible.
If you are looking to learn this topic, then this is not the teacher for you. You can get through the class with a decent grade. Everything is done through achieve. Midterms and finals are worth a ton, and you have to study a lot. My advice is to see a tutor. All quiz questions are given prior to the quiz, and learning curves are easy 100s.
Avoid at all costs. Class time was spent copying down obscure graphs related to chapters. Would not teach anything from the textbook but assumed you had full understanding. Does not explain his work, nor make it easy for students to learn. Has online quizzes and online midterm/final that is based on previous quizzes and graphs in class. Good luck
Long lectures where even he doesnt know what hes saying. Cant speak english. Cant hear or understand. His tests are stupid ,2 tests , 2-3 questions each and worth 60% of your grade. Havent even in his class a whole semester and i will probably drop out. Avoid if you can. Take Ghosh even tho he sucks too.
Pray to whatever religion you have, you will need it
Avoid this class at all costs. He spends the entire time rambling and writing random graphs that do not teach anything. He barely uses the textbook even though the exams come straight from it, so you end up teaching yourself. There is also a language barrier, so he can't answers questions clearly. Only positive is that it he makes it hard to fail.
Absolutely the worst educator I have had in my career as a student. Lectures are vague, he goes on random tangents about ChatGPT that have no application to material. Hard to understand. EXREMELY slow and boring. No idea how he is still teaching, everybody failed his exam and 40 points of the midterm denominator had to be dropped as a curve.
Hong is not the greatest teacher, but if you want to do the least amount of work to get through Econ, then take him. Show up to class, occasionally answer a question, and AI the home works (he encourages it) and you will have like a B at the end of the year. He also gives you 40% of the midterm and final.
These people are being harsh. Hong is a boring teacher, but if you want to get through Econ, take him. Impossible to fail his class. occasionally raise your Hand and show up, AI the homeworks, you can end up with an A. He is an easy A- if you approach it the right way. Recent ratings were clearly mad that "everyone failed the final", his F is a 46
