Wang rules!
Never used the lab time effectively; lectures were good and so were the notes.
Gives excellent notes, and is more than fair with exams. No surprises! Good Prof!!
This guy is so funny!! And very eager to help anyone who asks....he really wants people to learn, unlike a lot of teachers...if you do stats, he's an excellent prof!!!
Smart and funny. BUT horrible English. Hard to listen to. Don't get him.
This guy is way too hard to understand! The examples that he does in class are NOTHING like what he tests on exams.
Very helpful. Great prof! funny too!
His tests are really easy, just as long as you do examples from old tests, because the questions NEVER change from year to year. He is hard to understand though, which is a problem if you can't teach yourself the course.
Fair notes, no examples, hard to understand.
he's sooo nice!!! and hilarious
I think he's great. He's funny and smart, his notes are excellent, willing to help etc etc. Also, his english is fine, it's a little broken but by no means hard to understand.
a really nice, pleasant guy. however, his examples in class truly DON'T prepare you for quizzes and tests. be prepared to do extra work.
Excellent!!!
Nice guy, HORRIBLE teacher. You pretty much have to learn the course on your own, as going to class will do nothing for you.

Hong Wang must do great research, 'cause he sure as hell can't teach. Be prepared to learn the material on your own.
I really hate Stats, I must say. He was a nice man, and he did give sample tests and whatnot, BUT his notes had a lot of mistakes and were not a good predictor of exam questions. I needed to get a tutor, and that costs money. Even then I only got 54
He is the worst prof ever. I couldn't understand what he was saying. He doesn't teach you anything he just says stuff and stats in general and that is his way of teaching.....Avoid at all costs
Not hard to understand, very smart & everything is multiply choice. The course SUCKS but he's helpful and funny so it helps a litte.
great note, nice guy,

Nice guy and willing to help you. But his examples do not help and class is a waste of time!! You will end up learning this course on your own, which really sucks!

Class was a total waste of time, examples he did in class were irrelevent to the tests...FINAL EXAM WAS BRUTAL...never prepared the students for it at all.
There is no point in going to class b/c 1. you can't understand a word he says, and 2. his notes and examples are absolutely pointless, the examples are nothing like the ones on the tests, and they are the most basic example ever. I had to teach myself the whole course. If you do get him as a prof though go to tutorials that this Organ guy does.
ST4585: be prepared to always go to class and to take your own notes. Follow directions, he has no patience for people mess up because they weren't following. Script your sessions! They're the best notes you'll have. ST2500: I hope you don't mind accents, build your forumla sheet well and do the sample exams, his in class examples won't help
Might be a nice guy but lectures will drive you, on your own with this prof so unless you excel at math you will be in dire straits come the final. Aiden Organ's tutorials might save you, but knowing the processes are meaningless unless you can decifer vague word problems. Nothing fair with this course expected to know all theories inside and out.
Absolutely useless to go to class. Completely on you to learn the material.
Useless. Everyone says "go to Aidan Organs tutorials" which is indeed the only hope for savior in this course. The irony is that more people attend the tutorials than do Wang's class. The university needs to reconsider who it is they're hiring and remember that students are there to LEARN.
Never went to class. He makes it boring as hell and you have a job understanding him.
Attending class is pointless. All he does is read directly off slides. Examples given in class are nothing like what you'll see on the midterm and final. He's difficult to understand, and doesn't prepare you for what you'll see at the end of term.
Awful. Hong wang is a nice guy, he just really has a lot of trouble teaching. You can't learn anything from him. Class consisted of him reading off slides and giving only the most basic examples. I stopped going and did well in the course because of tutorials. Avoid if you can.
this prof is horrible. he reads off slides directly and does the easiest examples, which are kindergarten compared to the midterm and final. he does make a few jokes, but not worth the poor grade. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF.
He is very hard to understand, makes class pointless to go to. By the end of the term there were only really a handful of people attending...out of 300. Made the final brutal compared to what he tried to teach.
By far the worst prof I've ever had. Couldnt comprehend his english, so classes were pointless. He was mean and rude if you went for help. Avoid this prof!!!
I really liked him. He was hilarious in class and his english is not that bad. His examples were clear and questions on the midterms and final were almost identical to his examples online and from the lectures.
Skip class go to tutorials. His lectures aren't helpful at all!
Excellent prof. He will do what he can to help you if you show him that you are a serious student. Would be a pleasure to take other courses with him.
Dr Wang is a good guy, seems nice and humor. But the difficuilty of his exam & quiz , and assignment totally NOT MATCH his lecture. He always gives the simplest example in the lecture. Though i go class almost everyday, still have a hard time towards his exam and assignment
great prof. anyone who says hes a bad teacher or has poor English did poorly in the class because they did not listen or put in the work, he does not spoon feed students however he sets the groundwork for the study you have to do. as a bonus hes funny and an overall good guy, id have a beer with him 9/10
Class notes made me feel like i'd do well on the final, easy notes, easy to understand. Exams blew me out of the water, completely different than his exams. 100% harder material. Avoid
It was a real struggle staying awake in his class, but the midterm and finals were really fair. He prepared you half decently in class. However, I think reading the slides is just as good. He is helpful when you go to his office. His MC is graded in patterns so easy ~90 on the midterm.
Terrible english and the class notes are completely useless. Tried to email him many times with questions and rarely ever got an answer, and when he did reply it was no help. Only reason anyone is passing is because of the sample midterms. Avoid this guy he's garbage
Hong Wang is the man! He truly cares about his students and does everything to make them succeed. The lectures are long and boring, however his funny comments make them a little better. The tests are all extremely fair; he allows you to bring a cheat sheet (even to the final) and any type of calculator. If you don't do well, its your own fault
Funny prof, the midterm and assignments were easy, the final exam was a lot harder than the samples provided ! Be aware !
If nothing else, Wang is has a very funny dry humour but has his moments of freaking out when people are distracting during his lectures. His English is the worst I've heard out of all my foreign profs thus far, and his notes are not helpful. However, he knows his stuff all the tests are fair. Practice tests are very useful as well.
I attended the first 2 lectures, and none after that. This is because every class seemed like a waste of time due to his poor teaching style. Notes and examples were very disorganized. His English was okay, but he explained important concepts very vaguely. I did fine with a less literate prof teaching Linear Algebra so it wasn't a language thing..
Can barely understand his english. Examples in class and in the notes seem easy and doable but then the midterm and final are so hard you get lost trying to do them. He can be a funny guy but it isn't worth anyones time to take a class with him
First off, Hong is a really funny guy, but that is the only good thing about him. His teaching style is horid, you literally learn NOTHING from going to class, everytime I went to class I was more confused about stats than i was before. I would be surprised if Hong could teach 4 year old's the ABC's. Bad department at mun, and bad prof.
The prof is pretty funny and tries to make a dry course fun. Despite what others say he is job at what he does. The quizzes for the lab are a little challenging at certain points in the year. The midterm was very easy and he gives hints on things that will be on the test. He is a good prof compared to what you could get.
The best prof hands down. Doesn't care if you cheat he's boys
Although Hong Wang is extremely funny in his lectures, they are pretty much pointless to attend. I got more out of sitting home and practicing examples from the text and slides. He does make his midterm and final very similar to the provided practice, so study those multiple choice and your set. Not a great teacher but he made the course simple!
People are like "don't go to lectures I went to two and stopped going" I did that at first but then went consistently and his lecture were helpful, prof is funny and if you study the sample exams/midterms you are 100% going to pass (cheat sheet/formula sheet are allowed in midterm/write whatever you want on them). Assignments are same as previous.
Wang is a caring prof as he wants everyone to do well. He is also hilarious at times but he whispers for most of his lectures and can be hard to understand. Also, I did not find his lecture notes useful and wish he did more examples. The labs were also pointless in my opinion for this course.
I don't understand what he says in the lecture
Wang is a caring man who wants the best for his students and he's funny. Their isn't much options when taking stats so when you get him. Make sure to do practice problems from the book. Slides are useless. Rock out on your assignments and quizzes. practice through past exams. Alot of the same questions from past tests are the same on the finals.
worst prof ever
Dr. Wang is a caring man, but his lectures are useless. If you can find old quizzes and do the practice exams that he posts than you should pass. The examples he does in class are very different from what's on exams and quizzes. Try to find old material and go to tutorials! At least he re-uses a lot of the same questions every year
Literally cannot teach. When I went through my quizzes after getting them back, there was material we covered in later chapters that we hadn't learned when we wrote the quiz. If you email him because you don't understand something, he only sends a sentence in response. Worst prof I've ever had.
A lot of things in this course is unclear do to his mumbling, and rambling, often makes you zone out because of it, then suddenly he's going over important material and you didn't pay attention. Nice guy, hilarious at times, but idk if I would take him again (Maybe in a in person setting I would).
Honestly, Hong will make you feel lost and unintelligent most of the times. First of all, he might scold you if you ask a question that seems simple to him. Secondly, the quizzes are all over the place and not specifically on the chapter assigned. Thirdly, despite being the professor, he hardly has any idea on what will be covered in exam
Hong Wang is a nice guy but gets easily frustrated when asked a simple question, such as what will be covered on ______. I stopped going to lectures because I literally do not learn anything. He also knows very little about his own final exam or any examination in the course really. I wouldn't recommend him but there aren't many other choices!
Doesnt speak great English which made it harder to concentrate during lectures. Doesnt reply to emails that often so be prepared to be left in the dark with your questions. Should look at every other possible option before taking this course with this prof.
He's a good prof for the intro level stats courses (2550/2500). He reuses old test and everything is straight from the notes. He clearly can't be bothered to come up with anything original for a large class. Great for 2550 and 2500. DO NOT take him for anything past those courses though. His expectations are way too high and unrealistic.
Quizzes were very reasonable but final exam was completely unfair. Teach the course to yourself as the lectures are useless.
Grading Criteria are very unclear. Never take his class unless you are A+ student.
Avoid unless there's no other option. Would rather spend 5+ minutes berating students for asking questions he feels they should already know than the ten seconds it would've taken to give an answer. Also incredibly rambly, resulting in frequent poor explanations of key concepts. Youtube tutorial channels are the only reason I survived this course.
Hong Wang's online 2500 class is not good for an online AND as an offline class. First, the lecture videos aren't saved. Even if you ask nicely he'll be like "I'M the professor here! If you want recorded lectures then go learn with another professor!" The slides are full of filler information 90% of them don't show up in any tests/exams.
Dr. Wang makes a mockery of education as a whole. He has the worst English I have ever heard in my life. Lectures are planned poorly and he rambles on about random things all the time. Ironically he may actually be one of the better profs for stats as he teaches using computer software which makes a lot of problems easier. Watch YouTube videos!!!!
Hong was difficult to understand, however, provided online quizzes each week that accounted for 30% of the final grade. The midterm was easy to follow and much the same as the quizzes (taken online), however the final (in person) did differ in difficulty.
I emailed Wang multiple times throughout the course and not once did he respond. The language barrier is awful which reflects his teaching abilities. Don't bother asking questions in class since he likes to yell and say "Got it?" more times than I can count. If you have the option to take this course with another prof, I highly recommend doing so.
Extremely difficult course. it does not seem like he has his students' best interests in mind. Was not very friendly during the final exam which made the atmosphere very tense. My learning style did not match up with the entirely online content which did make things a little harder for me.
I took this class online in the winter "23 semester, our final was in-person however and he made the exam environment very uncomfortable, the worst exam environment I have ever been in. He was very rude to students throughout the exam, the behaviour he displayed was honestly disgusting from a university prof. He also do not reply to emails. AVOID.
If you struggle with math and have lots of questions, Dr Wang is not the guy for you. I took this course and watched 5 or 6 lectures out of 19 and did fine. He provides lots of resources and the course material is easily accessible. Before asking a question, be confident that you know your stuff otherwise he will call you out on it
Absolutely unacceptable conduct toward students when asking questions. Why this man is employed is such a valid question. Aggressive demeaning way of answering students. I suggest every student report this menace to student union as we deserve to be treated with respect.
Ineffective lectures with a language barrier. No test or quiz reviews compared to Calculus. The quizzes were reasonable, and the midterm was based on previous quizzes. He does respond to questions within 24 hours with very concise answers.
very bad horrible
very very bad
very bad no language
dont take him
Absolutely awful, probably one of the worse profs at mun. You can barely understand him and he only reads through slides in class. Over 100 people in the class and around 5 show up. He takes forever to go through slides, classes with him are hard to even listen to. 100% do not take.
Very difficult. Lecture slides and homework didn't provide help. Practice finals and quizzes were incredibly helpful. Manageable if you put in effort. Had to seek tutoring whole semester but I think this would have been necessary regardless of the prof. Always replied same day to me. Seems like a very nice man, just teaching a rough course.
You probably need around 15 hours a week to fully understand this course. 3 hour labs + 2 hour lectures are not fun. The course is literally just using a computer software with codes to find answers, not learn how to get them.
