goes over homework in class, studyguides are helpfull
No Comments
she speaks haltering english
not a good teacher at all...doesnt explain things well, goes over everything 10 times, tests are ridiculously hard and she doesnt try to help you at all. do not recomend at all...she made me hate economics
One of the worst teachers i have had at Salisbury. Very poor English and rambles. Tests and quizes are very hard. Poor English makes lectures unbareable.
Exams are really hard, quizzes are ok. Class is pointless beacuse she just puts up the powerpoint & rambles. Doesn't make things clear, so if you can teach yourself you can do ok. Otherwise, I don't reccomend her.
I think people are too lazy. I am not an econ major, I dont study for her tests, and I still have an A in the class. Her accent is thick, but I've had worse at salisbury
Her accent worried me at first, but that's something you adjust to. Pretty much if you can semi-teach yourself with her powerpoint notes, you'll be great, rely on her to fill a couple holes, but thats it...oh, and you dont need to buy the $90.00 book ;)
Awful teacher. Can't teach. Hard to understand. Get someone else if you can!
a little hard to understand, gives notes on powerpoint and tests come right from them
Accent was hard at first, but you get over it. Be prepared to study a whooooole lot to do well. Attendence is a must.
She is very hard to understand and attendance is a must...she knows if you are or aren't there! If you can teach yourself from powerpoint notes and the book you'll do fine, if not take someone else. She likes to give quizzes too!
She's one tough lady to understand, and if you can't teach yourself all but the most basic concepts, good luck! Tests are really tough, and quizzes can be too. If ya bomb one test, say goodbye to your A or B for sure.
Shes' a good teacher. Very nice lady. Once you get past the language barrier you will learn alot.
Very hard to understand. Talks about nothing half the class. Told me I never show up to class when I didn't miss one single class. Very bad teacher avoid at all costs short of selling your soul.
I know she has a slight accent... but hey... YOU WOULD HAVE AN ACCENT IF YOU TRIED TO SPEAK CHINESE TOO!! As long as you listen in class and STUDY THE POWERPOINT you will do well. You don't necessarily need the textbook.
she is so hard to understand, i wanted to pull my hair out every class. i hated her class, not economics, just her class! DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!
Impossible to understant, does not know how to teach. Dropped the class to retake with a different teacher next semester
Nice lady who knows her stuff. Do not be fooled by her accent, she knows what is going on in her class. She knows if you are there and if you pay attention. Quizzes are easy, test are hard but not impossible. Print the power points from the K drive. Show up for class and don’t screw around she
Very hard to understand. She doesn't even understand the students and it takes other students rephrasing the comment so she can get it.
I thought she was hard at first. But i firgured out that she puts study guides in the library that have practice quizes and they help A LOT. So do that and you'll be fine. Her accent isn't that bad and she's funny. So just come to class and study and you'll live.
Not that hard to understand at all. All you have to do is go to class and you'll pass bc she explains everything so well in class. She even puts study guides for the exams on the K: drive and goes over the 4 hw assignments in class b4 u hand them in. Definitely recommend her!
she is a very good teacher, but hard to understand. she really knows what she is talking about, most of the test/quizzes.exams are multiple choice.
Yao's class is real easy to get an A if you just study the powerpoints. You don't have to go to classes either, but she gets pissed if u continue to miss. She talks pretty funny and pronounces try "TWHY", method "METHURD", and she always yells out RRRRRIIIIIIGGGGGHHHHHHTTTTT!
Worst teacher I have ever had in my life. Very hard to understand and talks about nothing. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!! Her class will make you hate school, and make you never want to come back!!!!!
Dr Yao does speak English as well as any other prof. She may have an accent but if you go to class, study the powerpoint and reserve notes, you will do fine. She is very helpful. Go to her office if you need help. She speaks and writes English and Chinese... how many languages do YOU speak fluently??
I wish I didnt sign up for her class! The information is presented in a way where it is easy to understand but there is no real motivating force behind her teaching. Therefore I find any possible reason not to go to her class, I'd rather be catching a morning nap! Just print off the notes on powerpoint and study them. She is nice about extra credit
I really liked her. She's sooooo nice and she really genuinely tries to help you learn. She moves at the pace of the entire class. As long as you pay attention in class and understand you don't need to study that much for tests. She has 3 tests (including the final) and 4 quizzes. Heavy accent, but i understood her. Lectures on powerpoint.
Best Econs Teacher and has one of the best teaching techniques on campus. She will help you anyway she can if only you are interested. She is very clear.Explains the subject in way that you will understand. I mean i went into the class and started out clueless but now i feel i have an understanding of the subject. GREAT TEACHER and the BEST.
She is the best. One thing i loved about her class was that she moved at the pace of the class. she is very clear and explains stuff using examples relevant to college students so we remember.I remember she explaing one topic with the G.P.A System..now who wouldn't remember that? Plus if you do the home work, you will do well on her tests.
Very hard teacher.... tests are hard too!!!! I would not take her. She is hard to understand but does speak English. Would not take the class!!!!
I stopped going to class and got a B easily. She like 4 homeworks and gives 2 weeks to finish them and they are so easy. Buy the old book its the same. USE http://websites.swlearning.com/cgi-swlearning/course_products_wp.pl?fid=M20bI&product_isbn_issn=0324171889&discipline_number=413 the quizes are great. She gives powerpoint notes on K drive. TAKE
The nicest woman you'll ever meet! Very helpful and really wants you to learn and do well. Homework, quizzes and tests are all just about the exact same questions. Take her!
her tests are nearly impossible and she never curves, even if 85% of the class gets a D. make sure you do all he homework, it helps a little. if you know nothing about econ do NOT take this class... you will be confused all semester.
she is a very good teacher. gives great examples and makes sure the class understands before she moves on. sometimes she is hard to understand but she clasrifies well. all powerpoint presentations that is available to students, so its easy to follow along.
Great professor in general. Course was a little hard, but I attribute that to myself. Definitely keep track of the lecture by printing the Power points as most of the exam / quizzes come directly from that material.
She is a pretty decent professor. Sometimes she is hard to understand but for the most part you can figure out what she is trying to say. She is pretty funny but she gets off topic alot. Alot of the time, I had trouble paying attention because she would just ramble about whatever she wanted to. overall shes pretty good though.
Im not an econ major but i find her easy if i every have a question i can go to her and she will help me understand it she is always in her office her accent is not hard to understand at all and relates stuff to the real world and is funny and keeps this subject intresting!
Very confusing woman. Likes to go off on little tangents and most of the time you have no clue what she's ranting about. But she's funny, very entertaining. The subject is very hard, you either get it or you don't. She tries to be helpful, but it doesnt really work.
I would suggest taking someone else if you can. She is kinda hard to understand, funny if you can translate what she is saying. Subject itself is pretty boring and hard and she has the attitude that you either get it or don't, so she isn't much help. She uses an online book (APLIA) which I personally don't care for and find useless when studying
In general the class is a little overwhelming, you learn both micro and macro and it gets confusing. Yao wasn't very helpful, if you ask questions she embarasses you in front of the entire class and when she tries to answer your question its off the wall. She tells you not to buy the text book, yet you use it for homework. dont recommend her.
Very confusing and hard to understand. Very knowledgable, but doesn't teach very well.
Tests are pretty hard. She's very knowledgable, but dosen't know how to teach it. She doesn't know how to explain her examples very well either.
She is very hard. Her study guides do not help at all. She doesn't care about you or your grade and basically tells you that you will not get a good grade. I highly suggest not taking her.
I was really dreading econ but she explained everything really well. she went slow and walked you through examples. if you kept up with the notes and looked over them before tests you'd do fine. she can be a little ditzy but its more funny than anything else. as long as you pay attention in class and take notes youre set just dont forget to do apli
She can't speak good english. Enough said. DO NOT recommend taking her.
She is very intelligent, but sometimes can not communicate the material her first try. You really have to study the powerpoints for the exams. She is always saying how everyone does poorly on the final so I do not know why she hasn't taken in that info and made it easier. The exams do not line up with the online work so know the powerpoints well.
She is not to difficult to understand. She loves Labor economics so she really gets enthuasistic. Shes willing to help you so go to her office hours. Subject is not to difficult to understand.
She was a great teacher! Very high energy and makes a boring subject interesting
Very nice, very willing to help students if asked. Doesn't always speak coherently, but is understandable for the most part. Not too difficult, as long as you remember the Aplia assignments.
Please don't take her. My biggest mistake was taking her.
Don't take her unless you have a good understanding of Econ prior too the class. She is helpful, besides that she is probably the worst professor I've had.
Dropped after the first class! Couldn't understand her at all. She has a really heavy Asian accent where she doesn't pluralize words or use prepositions. She's also ridiculous about attendance, even one absence gets you docked points and if you ever get up to go to the bathroom or anything she said she'd stop teaching until you come back. Avoid!!!
Not a bad professor, has a thick accent but not to the point you don't know what shes saying. She really wants to see you succeed and is a pretty good professor. I would probably take her again.
Although she has an accent, she is a wonderful teacher. Requires work and studying outside of class. She provides opportunities for extra credit, but most points come from 3 exams and weekly online homeworks. Very friendly and wants all of her students to do well!
Very strong accent but wants to see her students do well!
difficult to understand, very strict with her rules
Dr. Yao is a tough professor and is not always clear in her material. She gets confused by herself a lot. There are a lot of opportunities for extra credit. Tests are very hard and not always what is taught in her lectures. Did not use the book.
Professor Yao is an okay teacher. She has a very strong Chinese accent and can be very hard to understand at some points. Knows her stuff but sometimes doesn't teach it well. Test are very wordy. Tries to trick you. Be prepared to study for hours. Aplia every week and doesn't really use a textbook. If other options don't take Yao.
She has a thick Chinese accent but completely proficient in English. Really knows material, wants students to learn and participate. She will like you if you participate regularly. Test questions are straightforward and mirror class examples. Regular homework online. Gives extra credit often and there's a small attendance grade.
The worst teacher i've ever had. From her name you can see that she's not from the United States which wouldn't be a problem if you could actually understand her. Lectures are dragged out and she rambles off incohesive thoughts. Her acceent is thick and she is all around a bad teacher. DO NOT TAKE.
Took this class and hated it. Half the time I couldn't understand what she was saying because her accent is too thick. She kept making references to broccoli which just confused everyone. Also if you talk, text or have to use the bathroom during class she will stop her lecture and yell at you which does more harm than good. Would never take again.
Dr. Yao is very nice and funny but a very hard teacher. She speaks broken english, and is sometimes hard to understand. Dr. Yao gives you powerpoint and detailed notes but she will tell you stuff in class that you won't know for the test unless you are there. Test are very hard. Don't take the class unless you need too.
She is very knowledgeable but do not waste your time going to her office hours she is not helpful at all
Some students don't like Dr. Yao but I found that she was a good teacher. She lectures from the powerpoint, which can get boring sometimes but she is really into what she teaches. As long as you do the Aplia homework and study, you should do pretty good on her tests. Very sweet person in my opinion.
From the day I walked in there I knew it was going to be a disaster. Her lectures are incredibly boring, you cannot understand her, and the test are impossible. If you aren't very proficient in Econ you will struggle to get a C. If you want to get a decent grade in Econ 211 do not take this corse.
Three main exams, she takes the best two for your final grade. Your attendance is weighted in grade, and she really likes people that participate in class. If you don't get to know her in the beginning of the semester, you may feel ostracized for the rest. One online homework assignment a week; DO THEM. Saved me from getting a C in the class.
The first time I took this I failed and had to retake her. I think I am going to fail again, I am dropping out of this school. She's a really nice lady who is compassionate about teaching. I feel guilty for failing honestly. DO NOT SLACK. I will miss her. Laugh at her jokes. You can understand her, her English is fine.
The worst teacher I've ever had. She has VERY broken english and is extremely cocky. She made sure to tell the class at least once a week that she 'doesn't make mistakes'. The 3 exams and the Aplia homework are the only grades, she gives no other assignments. The exams are nothing like the practice questions given and are very abstract.
She was kind lady, but tough grader. didn't give a lot of work which can be nice but that led to low grades bc only the aplia and tests were used as grades. She was realllllly confusing and I struggled. I attended every SI session and the tests seems hard still, due to the wordy ness, she has broken English, it is quite funny
Cannot understand a word she said. VERY thick accent. doesn't care about a student passing the class. VERY cocky. do not take her unless you want to show up to class everyday and not learn anything and then go on your own time to learn things about this class. so far, my worst teacher i have had.
She is the worst possible teacher to have if your look to seek help outside of class. We went to go see her a couple of times and ask for her to reiterate and she tries to bash us for not understanding it during class and continually asks u the whole time of office hours where u in class after every question
Her English is very hard to understand and she get off topic really easily. I do not recommend taking her for Econ unless Econ is your strong subject. The only grades in the class are online homework assignments and exams. The homework doesn't count for much so if you do bad on the exams you're pretty much screwed.
Great professor, cares about her students, you just need to put in some effort and show that you also care.
great teacher. she was always there If you needed help. hard tests but if you study a few days in advance you will pass.
Thick accent, fast talker, tough tests that are not like the homework. Pick literally anyone else for ECON.
Exams were worth more than half of the final grade and were nothing like the study questions provided. For a class where math is taught she lectures too much rather than demonstrating the material. Unfortunately she is the only one who teaches this class.
Brags that most people fail or withdraw and only a few who pass get A's. Refuses to answer questions during exams because she doesn't make mistakes. Exams and homework are your only grades. The homework is nothing like the exam. Avoid if at all possible!
Econ is hard but she is a great teacher and wants to make sure everyone understands.
Econ isn't a easy class but she is so nice and tries to make sure everyone understands:)
Attend class and pay attention and you will do well in the class. Complete homework on time and study before exams and you'll be fine. One of the most caring professors in the econ department and genuinely cares about her student's success. can be confusing at times with her accent so I would recommend taking her class in person.
Took her class my 1st semester of freshman year and had to drop the class! I understand that she is not a native speaker, however she is teaching really is complicated concepts and is hard to understand. She doesn't allow ANY make ups or redos. Her humor does make lectures entertaining but DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!
Wants you to attend and will give extra credit that goes towards tests for attending. Caring, likes to make jokes, a lot of homework, can be hard to understand sometimes, and wants to make sure the class understands topics.
A lot of homework you need to start early within the week to not fall behind. She gives out a lot of extra credit which goes onto your overall exam scores which helps a lot. She is passionate and wants everyone to learn something. Material can be hard and going to her office hours can help.
barely speaks english, and gives fake extra credit. will never admit shes wrong. dont take her.
The amount of homework is unbelievable and hardly related to anything you learn in class. It is extremely tedious and quite frankly demoralizing. Each hw assignment takes at LEAST an hour and the only way to get an A is to get it wrong the first time and take pictures of the right answers. This class has killed my motivation for anything. DONOTTAKE
A very caring and funny teacher who thoroughly goes through all the material. You get out what you put in, show up to class because it is soooo important and she gives extra credit every once in a while. A lot of studying is required for the exam so take detailed notes during lectures and try to show you care. Excellent teacher if you at least try.
I love Dr. Yao when I took her my freshman year she was the reason I switched to being an Econ major. Most of the people who get Cs in her class are just lazy she greatly rewards effort in her class and will likely bump you up to the next letter grade if you just try hard.
