How this guy has been teaching for 10 years is beyond me. He can't speak or understand English.
I sat in the front row in a class of 60 and that is the only reason I could understand Dr. Deng. He's a nice guy and teaches in a powerpoint format. He gives a quick test review with similiar questions and some on a printout. Check his website for his syllabus. Not really a hard class.
worst professor at UNLV.can hardly understand him b/c he doesn't speak english well. can barely understand him during role call.just show up for the review before test.if able to take very fast notes from review then you will get an A.if you want to learn, don't take this guy.
Don't take this prof. You won't be able to understand him or communicate with him.
Do not take it. Just don't do it. Maybe in another 10 years he will speak better english.
AHHHH! This class is awful, not the teacher, Dr. Deng tries to make the class better, but it is just awful. At least you get to learn how to make a website.
I am sure that he knows a lot, but it is no good to me if cannot relay what he knows. The guy cannot speak english, how he got to stay a teacher is beyond me....his class was frustrating and boring, i am glad it wasn't my major. If it is your major find a better Prof!
Deng is hard to understand but makes it up by giving you the answers to his study guides that are almost like the test. As long as you do well on the group project and study his study guides you will for sure get no lower then a B

He's a nice teacher, but is really hard to understand. The class is boring and not being able to fully follow what he is saying makes it worse. He does provide you with a study guide to the test questions which makes the test somewhat easy, but other than that avoid this professor.
You cannot understand him , but he does curve test grades.
Prof Deng is very difficult to understand. He may be very knowledge and a very good professor, but if you can't understand him, it's impossible to learn anything. He does hand out a review for every test, so if you take him, be sure to be there on every review day; that's about the only way you'll pass the tests and the class.
I've had many foreign teachers at UNLV before but he's the worst teacher by far! Has very heavy accent and terrible english. Seems to knows a lot but has no teaching abilities. I've asked him questions but never gets answered, only tells me to read the book. More students should file complaints to the Dean about him... Stay away if at all possible.
I don't know why Deng has such a bad rating. The class was easy. Follow the lecture notes and study them. The tests were just like the study guides that you got the answers to before taking the exam. The study guide came out of lectures notes and the book. He is a easy grader too. He is hard to understand but shouldnt get bad rating for that.
If you have never been anywhere else in your life other than the US and English is the only language you speak then do not take this professor b/c you are not going to understand him. Mr. Deng is very intelligent but does not have an effective teaching style, he is pretty funny though. This class is very useful and definitely Ace-able.
Cant speak english. Boring but before the tests he gives you study guides for each chapter and then gives you the answers and the test questions come straight from those so its real easy.
Very hard to undestand. Not very knowledgable. Did not learn much of anything in the class. AVOID IF POSSIBLE!
What did he say? Real hard to understand, though he was willing to write it on the board when we didn't understand what he was saying. The tests are "Open Computer" and are almost right out of the "Book".
Hard to understand. Picks on students in class. Tells your grade to everyone in front of the class. Talks about your personal e-mails in front of the class. DO NOT TAKE! Class was not helpful. Did not learn anything.
He is confused himself. Very poor communication skills, do not speak english at all. But the department do not offer any other classes to choose from. He was the only prof for this class. We were helpless. Try to find someone else if possible. Very usefull class for IT career, but he makes it horrible.
I liked this course. He made it easy to learn the material and you will get out of it what you put into it. A lot of group work, just like the real world.
I looked forward to taking the project management class for my MIS degree for over a year. I was so incredibly disappointed. He is not a bad guy, he has a sense of humor and gives decent feedback but his knowledge of the material was very poor. His extremely inadequate English speaking skills make him very difficult to follow in class also.
I almost complete his MIS 746, IS Project Management, Dr. Deng is really helpful for my study. The Guest Speech i swonderful.
This guy does not speak English!!! Very hard to understand. The tests are open book which makes the course easy. Doesn't tech anything, just shows slides really fast. Do not recommend!
The WORST professor I've ever had! EASY to get A. but you learn NOTHING! waste of time and money! Also, he speaks English like Chinese... If you want to learn Chinese, he might be help. I wonder why UNLV hire professors like him? The budget is so limited, and it's the time for Deng to get retire!
A lot of open book, note, neighbor, and take home tests. Very large project that makes up a large portion of your grade. Sometimes gives points for showing up. Doesn't explain things very well so if you don't understand what's in the book you won't learn much. Lectures consist of a powerpoint with material from the book.
Second class from this professor. Still hard to learn anything from his lectures since he is hard to understand. I stopped going to the lecture completely and only go to the break out sessions that are taught by a TA. You're better off just looking at the Power Points than going to the class.
This class is a bit difficult as Prof Deng notes the first day of class, but as long as you Read the book, and come to Every class, you will do fine on the exams. Professor is hard to understand because of his accent.. He is very smart but it seems he doesn't care about teaching. Good class...but outdated material, and a not so great teacher.
Second concurrent class with this Professor. He is Hard to understand! Near the end of the semester he changed what he originally said about the term project requirements. - The FFTW project is Very confusing at first, and the information overall (as I discovered) is Very outdated. He is temperamental at times and in general, just AVOID Prof Deng!
Dr.Deng has great knowledge in this area. The FFTW PROJECT was interesting
great professor. Very Helpful.
THE COURSE IS VERY TECHNICAL AND TUFF. However, Professor did a great job to let me follow and understand it
Cousre was too hard but prof. Deng was unbelievable good.
Poor quality class. Deng's English is almost incomprehensible. Class consists of Deng reading the author's powerpoints, using the author's test questions for the test, and one group project. If possible avoid him at all costs in my opinion you will not learn anything from him!!!
Dr. Deng is very helpful and with great knowledge on this area.
Prof. Deng is the best professor I have ever met with eecellent knowledge on the PM field. The Guest speaker is fantastic too.
the best professor I have experienced
His accent makes it extremely hard to understand him on top of a very difficult subject. If you don't have any previous data com experience, prepare to struggle. Must ACTUALLY read the book. Tests are very hard and every ch. you have to submit questions. He uses those for the tests. Nice guy, but VERY tough class.
Term Project is great
THE BEST COURSE i HAVE EVER TAKEN
great professor. Dr. Deng is very knowledgeable on PM. i LIKE HIM.
Professor Deng is the best professor I have ever met in UNLV. He is so nice and helpful for all students. The guest speaker in this class is very interesting and useful.
Dr. Deng's accent makes coming to class painful. He makes it a point to let you know his lectures have nothing to do with the test and contradicts the book. READ THE BOOK, tests are 100% based on book. Only positive thing about class is extra credit. The TAs are useless but force attendance for breakout sessions. The book is your bible.
Dr. Deng is a very nice professor. His knowledge in PM is great. The guest speakers were wonderful. However, the textbook is terrible.
Dr. Deng's accent is really hard to understand, but, contrary to his 378 classes (from what I see posted here in RMP), his MIS 746 class is quite fun, largely for the graduate level companionship. Not the easiest, but doable if you do the work and get along with your group (formed from week one).
Dr. Deng is a one-of-a-kind teacher. I can't remember having a teacher who seemed to teach in a way that catered to so many different learning styles. The guest speaker was great!
this is the best course so far I have taken in UNLV. Dr. Deng is the best teacher. Many Thank to him.
Great course and great Instructor
Dr. Deng is the best professor at UNLV,I really appreciated his help in class.
Dr. Deng really works with students. He can be a little unclear at times but if you ask he will clarify. He is very I mean VERY hard to understand as english is not his first language so you really have to pay attention in his lectures. He does not want any student to get less than a C so he really tries to help.
A great professor. Highly recommend!
Dr. Is amazing.
I loathed this class. You didn't really need to attend lectures, but quizzes were given by G.A.'s in breakout sessions. Tests were soso even with studying and regular attendance. Dr. Deng can be tough to understand but after a week you'll pick up on it. The group project and book (which you need to read) were awful.
Deng is super nice, and very passionate about project management. Some cool guest speakers as well. He can be hard to understand and his writing is impossible to read, but he posts powerpoints online. His tests are a mix of situational and definitional, and are sometimes a little tricky, especially if you don't study.
dR. dENG is a great professor I have ever taken from UNLV
His accent made it a little tough to understand everything he was trying to get across. But he really got into the subject so made it interesting.
This guy was all over the place. The group project at the end was a nightmare. His accent made it very difficult to understand. Its very important to find a good group to do the project because it is a huge portion of your grade. Lectures make you fall asleep. Lots of homework and tests. If you can take this class online do so because its intense!
Deng has great knowledge in Project Management, very nice, helpful and easy to paas the course.
Such a great guy! At first he's hard to understand but then you will realize he's actually a really valuable professor. Take him!
Twice this semester he announced to the class that he'd be in his office all day on certain days and wasn't there. Some lectures can be enriching while others are worthless. For the group projects, he doesn't explain his expectations very well and leave some students confused and grills you if you don't meet his unclear expectations. Tests r hard.
Have you ever had a nightmare where you're drowning and then you wake up and you're relieved you're not drowning? Well in this class you never wake up. You're actually drowning because that's how awful it is.
Hard to understand his thick accent, but he is a good teacher . 2 Group Projects which 30% of your grade so choose team members wisely. Lots of oppurtunities for Extra Credit. Read the book and see all his lectures/PPTs and you should do fine.
nIce, great prof.
The best prossor I have ever met at UNLV. Content and Deng's experience is very very very helpful for future.
Good professor if you can get over his accent. Open note quizzes. Some questions from the quizzes are on the exam. There are 2 team projects so be sure to pick your team members wisely. The book has the formulas that will help you for the 2nd project, so it is best to get the book. You have to give a presentation at the end of the semester.
Great Professor with tremendous knowledge and experience in PM.
Dr. Deng is one of the worst professors Ive ever had. He was NOT accessible outside of or really even in class. Quizzes are open note which is the only good thing. Group projects were terrible and boring as the entire class did the same thing. It was money wasted because I learned nothing but its required. Hard to understand and NOT consistent.
Interesting experience to say the least. There are 2 main group projects so make sure you pick people that will actually do work. There are 3 tests which are okay. You need to review his slides and read the book to get a good grade. There are also quizzes but they are open everything (notes, computer, etc.) which is very helpful. Take him i guess?
Funny professor and nice guy. Class structure is miserable. Term project is a huge portion of grade and you wont know your grade til they are turned in at end of semester. Exams are on scantrons MC and quizzes are open book easy points during weeks. He makes a seating chart and takes attendance. Gives a lot of EC opportunities.
Honghui Deng is one of the WORST professors I have ever taken! He teaches the class like you are doing a masters degree in IS when it is an intro class for all BUS majors. He doesn't explain the concepts & thinks you know all the info he knows. Very heavy accent and super hard to understand. Take ANY other professor! If NO choice, books are online.
Bad lecture presentation mixed with unclear grading criteria. You never know what you will receive for the semester. Don't choose him.
Great Professor, very fun and lots of useful skills learned.
Hes a very kind and considerate professor. We have weekly excel assignments and then a group project at the end. We also have four exams and he provides powerpoints to study. I highly recommend this professor over other IS professors because of his kindness and caring for our learning!
The most confusing course (not because the material but the lecture material), just make sure you take lots of notes in class because his exams are lecture heavy. Also he doesn't give any feedback and you kinda just wonder the whole time if you'll pass, but overall, he's a nice professor. Make sure you keep up with the reading because it's a lot.
Professor Deng is a very caring professor. There is a very easy group project, very easy excel assignments, and open book exams. Honestly, that class was such an easy A. The previous reviews scared me but I had to take it and it's totally different.
His lectures are unhelpful but exams are open book and very easy. You don't need the textbook and class is full of busy work. I had 100s on all the assignments (at least 7) and As on each exam but got a B on the group project and I ended up with A-. Don't know how that happened but kind of irritating.
Professor Deng really seems to care about the success of his students. Speaking from experience in the graduate course with only 15 people in the class, it was very open discussion and always left feeling like I actually learned something. He really wants you to be a thinker and calls it how it is. One of my favorite courses in the program.
AVOID IF POSSIBLE. Has the worst grading scale and does not communicate. Got an A on all exams, got 100 on all assignments but got an 82 on the group project and I ended with a B for the course. Canvas grade shows a 96 but his terrible grading scale ruins final grades. If you dont get an A on the project (no one does) you don't get an A.
This is one of those required classes so it wasn't too important to me. The assignments and exams are easy but be cautious of the group project cause it still hurts some people (it's crazy cause the group project is sooo easy but I am not sure how he grades it). Overall, he was a good professor don't be scared to take him, it's easy to pass.
Lots of students in my class had issues with the grading aspect but I ended up with an A as long as you do the eight assignments and contribute time & effort into the group project at the end of the semester. Most of the grade weighs heavy on the group project so I would tend to focus on that. Overall great professor - highly recommend taking him!
Please student DO NOT take this professor. You cannot understand what he is saying in his lectures. There is a groups project in this class that is so confusing, it will take your grade down, and the professor is waste of time. Like I said you cannot understand his English. Please take another professor if you want good grade.
It was difficult to understand the professor due to his accent. It also seems like he was not fully transparent about final grades causing quite a few people in the class to get upset. He also came off as kind of rude when you ask him questions. Only choose him if you want an easy class and are ok with not learning that much. Tests and HW are easy.
Heavy Accent. The class overall isn't bad but still. It's all busy work on excel but the videos tell you how to do them. All exams are open everything he doesn't care. Doesn't answer emails. One group project with unclear instructions. Only watch the lectures on the project don't bother watching the others since you can look up everything. Mid
You don't need to buy the textbook, he links free tutorials online. Contact the TAs for your questions. Make sure you name the files exactly how he wants them. Easy class. Group project that does not have clear outlines but we managed to get by.
I hated this class so much. The professor was not clear about what he wanted. He would say one thing and then mean another, making easy assignments way harder than they had to be. I would stay away from this class.
Seems to be difficult at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's relatively simple. Just follow all instructions to a T and put all your effort into the group project. Use both books assigned to get A's on the exams and the homework.
Avoid taking him if you can. It's not particularly hard, but the Term Project is difficult, especially if you get a group that does not communicate. Major problem with the project is that the professor is NOT reachable by email. His office hours are appointment only, and it's difficult to get ahold of him to schedule anything, or get any feedback.
Overall super easy class, basic assignments. The group project was probably one of the dumbest things I've done and he didn't know what he was doing when completing the tutorial either. If you know how to work a computer and follow a step by step instruction, you'll pass with flying colors
