very good and nice teacher, talk about the materials that interest students.
Cool professor. Fun class, makes learning fun through discussions. Sometimes gets off subject and talks about irrelevant things. A lot of reading. Great sense of humor and loves SOCCER! If you are caucasian you might get offended cause he says Gringo alot

funny, enjoyable, and you are taught what you need to know. he is very good with people, i still remember every moment of his class, and i still remember all the 14 chapters i had to study.

He is by far the coolest teacher at lacc. He has a good humor, and at the same time he teaches very well. He is not a hard teacher and he is very nice.
He's the best!He made me laugh every morning. We only had a midterm that was multiple choice (50 Q's) and a Final that was 25 multiple choice and three essay questions,1 was extra credit. If you take good notes during the lecture you'll do great on exams. U dont really have to read the chpts because
A great professor and considering I was the only History major in each class I had him in, he expected way more from me than everyone else. I was the only one turning in 20 page papers, and I Aced every class!

Learned more in his class about American history and the political side of history as well. He leaves it up to you as to what you want to learn, which mirrors that of a four year University. Thought he was wonderful: funny, interesting, and informative. He has a well of information, it just needs to be tapped by the student. Highly recomended.
whoever wrote he takes bribes is an idiot. he is a great teacher. you get out of the class what you put into the class. take him and learn something.

fun class. not teaches much, doesnt expect much either. had a good time talking about current events though.
He is a really good, but he is not an easy professor. his test style changes every year, so don't ask your friend about a test source. he does not give a class note, so you need to take a note yourself. good thing is he curves the test grade.
Great teacher! He does focus on a lot of current events. His tests can be easy and difficult. Final was a take home which wasn't that easy but if you work hard you can get an A. Overall an easy and relaxing class.
Fonseca is an epitome of what a college level professor should be like. He gives test which its difficulty could be highly debated depending how one understands the subject. Fonseca STATES exactly what will be on his test, so study whatever he says. His lectures are fun to listen to.

Prof. Fonseca brings life into history and is, very knowledgable 20th Century US events, especially the period 1950 - present and is also an immigrant, a veteran, citizen, and active participant of the Student & Chicano Movement of the 60's/70's. He's a well rounded professor. Ought to be more like him.
very bad experinace. In his entire lecuture he talks about FOOD. Also how much he loves to eat and which are the cheapest restaurants. I wish he'll retire soon.
It is true. You are going to waste your time during lecture. He does talk a lot about food, sport, cars, etc. However, it is easy to get good grade in his class.
As long as you pay attention it's easy to get an A
he is a **** teacher that does not know how to teach even if his life depended on it... do not recomend this teacher to anyone....
His lectures are dull and just like those in ESL 0 course with garbage talk. He doesn't know how to teach through over 30 years of teaching. Quantity doesn't count. Jealous of Bush. King of unfairness. Never take lazy instructors. They are not sincere in teaching, and do they give you grades that you don't deserve. Please follow your guts!!!

i took this coursebecause i heard that this couse was the one of the easiest courses to get A in LACC.Since he copied most of the questions from the book, the first test was easy even though it wasn't easy to get A. He changed his mind a week before the final and gave a long essay exam. grade? As long as he likes you, it is easy to get A. no doubt
His midterm was super easy, but he changed his mind to give an essay test. no homeworks and no quizzes. don't expect to learn something about history.

Great instructor, takes time to explain historical bull and separates the myth from fact.
Do not take him! For those who don't know, he has two versions of tests, and you r lucky if u get the one from the book, if not, u r skrewed.('cause these questions are out of nowhere.Even if u study hard, u never know what u r going to get, because the book and notes don't help at all.)
Fonseca is useless! He never lectures the material but goes on some weird, off-topic random speech like his trip to the World Cup that lasts the whole class and is a waste of your time. His tests questions are from out-of-the-blue and he makes up the class as he goes along.

Worthless to take him, Don't cover any book material, but Gives the Final very hardest. You gotta read by yourself. He will not teach any single thing that will be in final.
Fonseca is ridiculous! He spends half the time talking about why "Cindy" Lohan was in jail or how he dislikes Bush (I don't blame him but still!), or even how he loves watching the Galaxy. The final has nothing to do with the text. I passed but didn't learn SQUAT! You have to read for yourself because lectures = useless!
Absolutely and by far the WORST professor I have ever had! His lectures are completely off topic and have to do with the subject matter. TO do well on the test you have to study the book very hard because he doesn't teach you anything! Cant believe I sat in that class MONDAY THRU THURSDAY and he taught nothing! Do NOT take his class. He came to class late for the ENTIRE semester. He came up with many excuses like traffic, about his car or his sickness. He would check the attendance for 30 minutes. 2wks before the exam, all we talked about was pocahontas. He never talked about the book and would come up with an exam from outer space. Fonseca is a good teacher passed his class with a B because i studied the study guide 5 minutes before final and the final was mostly questions taken from the study guide. he gives no hw or quizzes. but he has very fun and interesting stories to tell. when he gets down to business he knows what hes talking about learned much from him!!!
He would talk about some entertainment news instead of history. He expected students to study hard at home. Test was hard.He would make fun at ethnic issues. He is not respectable at all.
Professor Fonseca is by far the worst Professor at LACC. Why does LACC keep these professors that don't care about students on campus. Why doesen't he retire? Take his class, you will get a B and you will have learned nothing.

I am currently taking this class, and it's pretty silly. He talks about irrelevant subjects that have nothing to do with the class curriculum. You wont fail this class it's pretty easy, but you will not learn much though. Oh and he is retiring soon!
His class is very easy to pass and that's all that matters. You don't even have to read the book to pass the class, so always study from the study guide. The first test (midterm) is from study guide, the second (final)is from the book.
What on earth is this man doing teaching? Horrible Professor. You will learn nothing. Dropped Eckford for this? Geez I got an A but studied on my own. He talked all day about soccer and nothing about history. Probably doesn't know the subject. So many terrible Professor at LACC. Go to Pierce.

Prof fonseca is the best history teacher in LACC> PLease for those that are sayin that he talks to much, they may be thankful that at least one teacher in LACC does not make the class boring. He talks about soccer is true, but because he knows that we as students find History boring, so his comments about soccer are welcome. HE IS THE BEST !
Best Prof in LACC! His classes were the only ones I never missed. Even though he spends most of the time joking around in class for some odd reason you do learn a lot from him. I passed the midterm and final without a problem. Take his class you wont regret it!
if you want to just pass a class without learning anything this is the class to take.he's stuck on the fact that students rate him on here and they cheat on his test.his test are open book but he doesnt let you use the study guide. just notes. what he doesnt know is that students write the study guide answers as notes.
It's professors like Fonseca that ruin the education system. He really doesn't care if you learn anthing in his class which is evidenced by his refusal to discuss the subject. If you want to pass and learn nothing about history, this is your guy

This is an easy class. All exams are open book and open notes. You do have to read on your own though.. He is a wonderful professor and I learned a lot from his class. I recommend Prof Fonseca. :)
prof fonseca is very unfair. he doesnt lecture anything related on the tests. he just tlks about anything he wants. nothing was at tests or final exam. making you read is his only purpose. i was a history major and he made me hate that class. hate him!! Fonseca is an awesome guy, but if your looking to learn about the subject, not going to happen. He does make class interesting by talking about events in the world. A major plus is he CURVES TEST
he is the only prof. i took at this college. he is the funniest man i have met. only two test mid term and final. both open book and open notes. if you know how to use an index you can get an A. i don't know why people talk bad about fonseca.he made time go by real fast with his political views. attendance is mandatory. i wish more prof where same
uummm...I barely could finish his class...much better to say, after you have Ron's class(ENG), you may not want to have this teacher...very old mind and method of teaching. You will get just what you read or do by your own.Not at all...sorry Fonseca

All you do in class is listen to him talk, he lets you use the book during the midterm, and the final is a take home. He's really easy, if your lazy take him and you'll pass.
LOVE HIM! I really think he is a great professor! His lectures are funny and really good. Be prepared to take notes. He reminds me of Edward James Olmos.
Easy A, lectures very interactive, open to for discussion although sometimes the they go off topic not related to U.S History however interesting. Book was necessary for this class, all exams are base on readings from textbook.
I hoped to learn more about the New Deal. I passed by reading "Don't Know Much About History". This Prof spent a half hour on attendance, speaking to his favorite students daily. He made a offensive comment in class to a Mexican student who did not know how to speak Spanish. While CA is 51% Latino, this does not replace English with Spanish.
Of course, Prof. Fonseca expects students to study at home! You're a STUDENT! It's not the teacher's job to spoon-feed you the information! Prof. Fonseca cares about his students, & he shows it! History has to do with things that happened; when he's speaking, try to listen to the narrative he's discussing. Sometimes he does go off topic... and..?
i love this teacher. yeah, the class is kinda hard because the class consist of 16 chapters composed of small fonts, and that's kinda hard to remember. he helps you in anyway he can and he makes history really interesting. im thinking of making history as my minor because of him:) Overall great class!:)<3

This teacher made history interesting. I personaly have never liked history so it was fun to take this class. You have to come to class and you have to read the book. tests consist of a midterm and a final. He gives u a study guide. Overall this class was easy if you study.
Tremendous Instructor!
He's very friendly and talkative. If you are never late,and never absent, and do all of the reading it's pretty easy. Extensive note taking is unnecessary. He's emeritus but still teaches one class per semester.

He was a FLAKE! He always said we were behind! Instead of spending time talking about class, he'd spend, literally, half the period talking about sports and shooting it up. Cool guy. Sweet too, but come on! Would rather us watch movies in class, on random stuff but had us go over the material at home to keep up. frustrating but he'll pass you.

Wastes about a half hour ranting about Trump, talking about sports, and another half hour doing role call. Claims he makes $10 an hour which seems unbelievable. He's sometimes funny and sometimes rude.

Professor Fonseca is a sweet individual and I enjoyed taking his class however, don't take this class if you actually want to learn something. He goes off topic a lot but the coursework matches the material learned so it wasn't difficult by any means. Really sweet and funny guy.
definitely do not take this class if you actually want to learn something. he was very funny but went very off topic, expected you to read the book on your own time. final was just two 6 page essays about prompts he provided. good class overall!
