The instructor is always willing to spend extra time with students to make sure they better understand the material. This trait is so important but surprisingly rare among teachers. I would highly recommend him for students in the future.
He was very good at getting to know each student. The course content was very clear. The presentation was very clear, hard to understand accent sometimes but still very clear. He has very much respect for all students he individualizes and plans for your learning specifically. I didn't use one of the books but felt like all the material and work wa
He knows what he's going over and its very helpful. Powerpoint's are clear and to the point. He is always open for help. I wish his tests didn't have such a short time limit for the practical part.
The instructor is great. He is easy going and relates to the students easily. Extremely quick to respond to student questions via Canvas. The material was good. I enjoyed the discussions that link videos to help students.
Strengths: he reads class well and is willing to place extra focus on concepts the class finds difficult Weaknesses: he goes through slides really quickly and sometimes it's hard to keep up The workload is perfect. One topic per week is very manageable. The in-class assignments help with learning week's topic and one homework assignment per week i
He is very organized and shows lots of interest in what he teaches. This class is powerpoint based, and though that is all it can be. I do not think that the powerpoints state a clear meaning to the material we are supposed to be learning that day. I wish he would show examples for more problems and clearly state a better reason to why we use this,
The instructor really knows what he is presenting to the class. He has shown mastery in the subject and he is always open to help students in the class. He gave us various learning opportunities so that we could learn the material effectively. Sometimes he may get off balance by going too fast on the harder workshops.
The strength are that he actually work at the field before and know what examples to use and provide good notes in each presentation. The class presentation is organized with each module he gave us. In class the instructor tried to interact with the student by asking them questions and you get a bonus for it.
Clarity is not always there, but he is very organized and has his plan for the day. The exercises are the most real world assignments I've ever had and it is very helpful. Workload is perfect.
He does a great job at always being prepared and has an organized way of presenting the material in a timely manner. Workload is good and always relevant to course material and doesn't take up too much time.
Professional and kind. Extremely quick to respond to student questions via email.
Strength wise, instructor provides many resources and uses both visual, auditory, and interactive teaching. Weaknesses are not a very compelling, interesting lecture. Responsive and provides many discussions as well as accessibility. Good use of class time, doesn't waste time on miscellaneous things or stories.
He does a good job over all the pace gets to fast at times. He is good at e-mail back in a timely manner. It isn't too bad but I wish we would get more practice in on each subject.
I think he presents a wide knowledge of excel and is very clear on what we need to learn but I also feel like he speeds through the material. Just because one student understands the material, does not call for the whole classroom getting a clear picture.
He is great at answering questions in class. I had a great time in his class.
He is very respectful and allows some discussion to take place. He also supports discussions and student contribution by adding bonuses as incentives.
Clearly understands material on a high level. Sometimes doesn't completely answer the questions we may have. Seems to respond willingly and fairly quickly by computer. The workload seems about right honestly, not too much and not too little.
Mr. Hossein is nothing but an excellent professor. I learnt a lot in his class, even though I was not a big IT person. The course is well laid out, in class assignment and lectures are helpful and he gives enough opportunity to succeed in class. If you put in effort, he will go beyond ways to help out. Jeopardy was fun!!
Good instructor, knows his subject well, and teaches it clearly. He always promotes in-class participation and often rewards students who help other classmates or the class as a whole.
Very helpful! One of the most thorough lecture instructors I've had. I just wish that it would be specified more as to what would be on the exam.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS! One of the worst professors I've ever had. I dreaded this class solely because of him. He goes way too fast and doesn't take the time to explain ANYTHING. He will go through a 35 slide PowerPoint in 10 minutes. You can't even attempt to follow along. He's very frustrating. He gives out bonuses, or as he would say it, "bunces".
Take him! Read his slides and pay attention in class then you will do great. He'll encourage you to push your MS Excel abilities to another level!
This class was tough but the professor made it nearly impossible. He is very difficult to understand and flies though the information way too quickly. One homework assignment and one in class homework assignment each week. He does give out bonus which help but be prepared to study a lot if you want to receive a passing grade. I dreaded this class.
Tough class, but if you study a lot and understand all the homework you will do great. Professor Kalantar is always fast to answer any questions! I found this class challenging, but very useful and informational. Great professor. He is very knowledgeable.
He is really caring and wants you to learn. I would definitely take him again.
Workload was a little heavy. Many many many hours of studying necessary to receive a good grade on exams. Bonuses help with the difficult tests.
He really wants his student to learn. Jeopardy and in class practices are really helpful but some homework are confusing and hard to get.
Be prepared to work! Hossein's strengths are his knowledge of the subject, as well as his professional courtesy and passion for teaching.
I really like that I joined ISMG 2050. Workload wasn't heavy but pacing was a little fast. Very exceptional about responding back to students.
Well-liked professor who actually teaches you things you can really use. Helps with students' problems and gives review game in class before exam.
Respectful and mindful of students questions and concerns.
Excellent professor! Everything was laid out well and was presented in an engaging way. Links provided in canvas were helpful. In class assignment comments helped guide in what areas I should focus.
I just like his style, at least it worked on me.
Great Professor that has a lot of knowledge on the subject.
Professor gives students many opportunities to improve and really learn material. He makes himself available to all students so much that if you do not pass his class it is because you are not trying and do not care. Attending class is crucial, especially if you want less homework. You can get by without Access textbook, but Excel one is helpful.
He really cared about you understanding and helping you out. Just awesome.
He is really nice, and is very helpful. You have to attend the class to do well, and that's why some people don't. It's a hard class but he is always trying to help you and will answer any questions you have. He gives A LOT of extra credit, which will help if you don't do well on the tests. Read his lecture notes, go to class and do homework
This professor is very intellectual. His main purpose is to go into class and ensure that he delivers his topics in a clear and thorough manner. I always see him helping out students to the best of his ability when things begin to get a little foggy, but he always has the best interest of his students in mind. Make sure you show up! Its worth it!
Fantastic professor, one of the best i've had in years. Totally cares about students and his class is useful in learning the material. Very refreshing.
Mr. Kalantar is a great professor. His lectures are very useful and interesting. I enjoyed the class a lot. Tip: Do your homework during his office hour because he will com to lab to help you. ^-^ Got an easy A in this class and he offered a recommendation letter to me.
Overall I enjoyed the class. Hossein knows what he's talking about. At times, he moves at a pretty quick pace that less technology adept people struggle with following along.
He is very helpful and wants you to succeed, however the class is set up poorly and I don't think it is completely his fault. Also, his instructions on some of the assignments are very vague and difficult to understand. You really have to work hard to do well on tests but he does offer opportunities to improve your grade.
Hossein is an amazing instructor. Despite tough exams, the class was very good. He is super willing to help and make sure you understand everything. If you put in the expected effort you shouldn't fail to get at least a B+. Take advantage of the bonus points.
Hossein is great professor for this class. He's very inthusiastic, even at 9 in the morning. He gives great feedback and emails you back very quickly. However, he will tell you that you need to buy the book. You really don't. He puts all the material you need online. You have on assignment once a week, which makes it very manageable.
Hossein has an accent which at first made it hard for me to understand because I would get confused really easily. He wants you to learn this subject, and he provided homework out of class and also in-class practices. The practices were very helpful and Hossein was very approachable when I came to visit him for his office hours.
Hossein is incredibly helpful during office hours & during class. He's a good explainer (though the class moves fast) & cares a ton. Go see him during office hours. Many teachers are nice. Hossein is nice & helpful. Take him. You will learn to enjoy Access & Excel somehow, & will learn. Class is challenging but not overly so. Do not skip class.
He is tough and fast but has helped me learn excel efficiently! I definitely recommend his class to other business students.
Good teacher who is there to help. Going to class is a must or else it is really easy to get behind. If you stay on track, easy class.
Hossein is a great teacher, he was very quick to respond to emails, and is helpful with individual work. He is very fast paced, and the exams are difficult, but if you pace yourself and ask him questions, you should be fine.
Professor Kalantar is the best professor I have had so far in the business school. He truly cares for his students and appreciates participation very much. His assignments are clear, concise and full of information that is applicable to the real world. The book is not necessarily necessary but it is recommended.
Professor Kalantar described his class to be very difficult, but I found it easy. His lectures are easy to follow. He gives in class practices which are very helpful when having to complete assignments. Exams are moderate. As long as you stay on task with assignments and showing up to class, the material is easy to follow and very interesting.
Hossein's knowledge on Excel is superior. He is very on point with updating canvas and represents good business practice. Pacing is a little fast.
This class is 90% Microsoft Xcel and 10% Access. If you are not computer or tech savvy buckle down. If you are it is an Easy A. Weekly homework assignments but they are clear, just follow instructions you'll be fine. The tests were more difficult, first part multiple choice and the second part is following instructions on a file.
Great instructor! Class is a little tricky, but he makes it as easy as possible. 3 tests and weekly homework assignments. Responds quickly to emails. He cares for you
Extremely organized, knows his stuff, and teaches the material incredibly well. He is also extremely helpful provided you show the effort. Because of this, his class is basically mandatory (with graded attendance). I barely used the textbook as all of the excel and access material is available online. Would recommend.
He knows his stuff and cares if you do too. Always a chance for bonus points. Pay attention to in class practice the homework is very similar.
Hossein was great and clearly cared about the students, going as far at to check with us about missing class or sudden drops in grades. The course was not easy, even with a basic understanding of Microsoft Office products, but it wasn't impossible either. Attend class, do the in-class assignments and homework, and k review for the multiple choice.
Great Professor! He is very knowledgeable about his Information Systems, and he is very willing to help. He is one of the best professors I've had at the university and I would definitely take a class with him again! Awesome class and learned a lot!
Amazing professor! You can tell he absolutely has a passion for the subject matter and it comes across in his lectures. I've never had a teacher that was so accessible and ready to help. One of the best at CU Denver!
At first, I didn't like Hossein, but he's willing to take feedback. His tests are pretty difficult, and the lectures rather dry, but you really need to be in class to get the points. He offers opportunities for extra credit (some easier than others) which helps quite a bit. A bit hard to understand, but if you review and study, you'll be okay.
Amazing prof! Take him you will not regret. Material is perfectly laid out and lectures are solid. Email him a question and he will respond to you faster than any other prof in the university. Always there for you. Not hard to get a good grade just show up and pay attention. Hands down the best prof i have ever had.
Everything is extremely straight-forward; he is fast-paced and to the point. Practice tests were given and of the ten times I took it, I would get a 100% but the real test had different questions. To get use out of the practice tests, use the questions as a guide to familiarize with the topics in general and not just that specific question. GL!
Extremely friendly professor! Super smart, makes class a fun environment, easy grader. As long as you show up, read the material and study for quizzes, you will get a good grade! He prepares fun jeopardy games as well before the exam to get us ready! And get ready to do group work )
Hossein is tough but fair. He treats his students with respect and always listens to concerns. I wish he provided more graded opportunities, or broke up lecture for other forms of teaching.
He is very passionate and knowledgeable about the course material. Be aware of his tough exams! There are case studies due for each session. Try to collect all the extra points if you want a good grade.
Hossein is very attentive and it is obvious he cares about his students' success. He talks and goes through things really fast but his routine system simplifies course load.
It's an interesting course with valuable information for the business world. Hossein Knows the material very well and is always willing to help you out.
I have taken ISMG 2050 with Hossein, and I didn't hesitate to take another class with him. He is one of my favorite professors in CU Denver. He gets back to your emails within minutes. Gives great feedback. Participation is very important to understand the material. Exams are tough but extra credits can make up for them.
One of the best professors at CU! The material can be challenging but he gives out extra credit opportunities. We had groups to work with throughout the semester but we never had to meet outside of class which is always a plus! Take this professor and you won't regret it.
I enjoyed this class and all the material it covered. The exams were tough, but Prof. Kalanter gives many opportunities to improve your grade. I would definitely take more courses with him.
Great prof, his classes are fun and not too challenging. However study for the exams they are not easy.
Hossein is a great professor, he is funny as well, which helps a class of this nature. He gives you all the tools necessary to succeed. He's awesome.
I Love the structure of his class, super organized. Come to class, take notes, do well on tests.
He clearly knows his subject matter and he is hands down the best professor I've had at CU Denver! He grading criteria is very clear and as long as you show up to class and do the work you will get a good grade!
He is one of the best professors at UCD. The lectures are helpful for exams, quizzes and homework (if you take notes and pay attention). Textbook is not required, even if IS is not your major he makes it easy to understand the terms. Participation is really important and could help your grade!!
If you're taking ISMG, you should take it with Hossein. He is very knowledgable on the subject and can provide you with real world applications to make the lectures relatable. As long as you read his lectures (Powerpoint slides) and the weekly assignments, you will be successful in the course and on the exams. Response time to email is un-matched.
He's the best
The class was amazing and fun, he is too clear. He helps the students and gives extra points.
Don't need the textbook. Whatever he says in lecture is fair game for exams., which are a little tough, so you HAVE to study for it. He truly cares about having you understand the concepts. His email response time is crazy fast. Gives extra credit for participation (and other oppurtunities) Take his class if you want to actually learn.
Overall, really enjoyed the class. A little pissed about how hard the final was. It caused me to lose my A. None of the material was able to be studied for from the practice exam and the jeopardy. Kind of misleading. Otherwise, nice guy. Really has a strong passion behind this topic. Case studies were a pain to do as well. They were useless.
Everything in the class is really simple but the exams are brutal to study for. This is because the exams require you to know about 6 chapters of knowledge and there is no study guide. The only option is to just try to read everything. If you are going to take this class just understand that the tough exams account for 50% of your grade.
A pleasure to be in his class. I learned so much through his lectures and they were always very interactive and he would say jokes here and there to get you to laugh. Professor Kalantar is very educated and knows his material. If you show up to class, take good notes, you will perform well on the midterm and final exams.
Don't be fooled by this high overall rating, I think he goes in and writes positive reviews about himself. NOT hot, a ton of filler assignments, quizzes, homework, and case studies. Not to mention the exams designed to take your grade down. Take his word for it when he recommends the online version
No idea what the recent negative reviews are talking about. The practice exam and jeopardy covered a decent chunk of the exam but it's not like it was the entire thing. Surprise: you have to study outside of those some. I got lazy towards the end but did the practice test/jeopardy and glossed over my notes and I still got a 91 on the exam.
Highly recommend, especially if you want to learn something and not just goof around. He gives ample opportunities to pass his class so i don't know what everyone is saying through extra credit, participation, and even drops lowest HW and quiz grade. He knows what he is talking about and enjoys teaching.
Cares about students learning the material and will help as much as he can. He gives plenty of opportunities for extra credit and to improve your grade. There is kind of a lot of homework, but as long as you put in some effort he is an easy grader! If you just read over powerpoints, do the practice exam, and jeopardy you will do fine on the test.
awesome teacher. tests were hard but if you came prepared, you would be fine.
As others have said, exams are unfairly hard. While it's possible to study for them, you are guaranteed to miss some questions. Lots of busy work. Important to memorize terms. It's really a easy A class a part from the Exams. Has a great spirit, and wants to help students. Always available to talk about any ISMG related question. Responds very fast
Tests are super tough. If you are not a good test taker, you may pass with a C or low B. Weekly quizzes and homework along with in-class work. Talks super fast during lectures which is sometimes annoying, but its so students don't fall asleep lol. Overall a nice professor and does well teaching the content.
Really cares about you and responds back to emails immediately. Tests are tough, but he provides extra credit.
I see some of these negative comments and I just cant understand how they did poor on exams. Yes the exams are difficult and heavy on the overall grade but he defiantly gives a lot of resources to study. All the quizzes and assignments are helpful for the test. He also gives a lot of extra credit opportunitys. He is devoted to help you succeed.
Professor Kalantar is a forward-thinking teacher who is eager to pass on his knowledge of technology an how it relates to the business world. I didn't realize how much I didn't know about this subject and see now how valuable this class is to all students.
Hossein is an amazing professor and his classes are really informative and you get an A if u participate and try reasonsably
Hossein is an intelligent instructor who provides a wealth of knowledge with real world experience. If you're a student that has no problem attending class and working with others this is an ideal ISMG class.
Really knowledgeable guy. Quizzes, HW, and discussions are all online and aren't difficult. The class is easy, but there are a TON of vocab words and acronyms. Learn the acronyms and you'll do really well in the class.
Really cool, nice, and smart professor. Take notes on lectures and slides. You get a couple drops. Some chances for extra credit. You'll be put into groups, but it's not that bad. Group stuff can be easily done with few people. Some people said exams are hard, but they're alright.
Hossein makes the class sound like the hardest thing ever, but it's actually really easy. If you are tech savvy, ISMG3000 is really easy. Otherwise it is a bit more difficult but still not hard. There's weekly quizzes & homework and 2 exams. Attend the review session, study the slides, and with that you'll pass the tests.
This class is definitely an easy A! Hossein does a great job of explaining the material and providing 1:1 explanations if you need to make sure you understand the material! The in-class jeopardy reviews and the practice online exams are super important and helpful for the real exams! Definitely lots of chances for extra credit too!
He is really organized and clear with the syllabus; you have group study cases, individual short homework, and a quiz due every week that don't take hours to complete. Do your work, participate, and take advantage of all extra credit opportunities and you'll get A. He knows the material, and his class is worth the tuition.
Kalantar was a good professor, when he couldn't make it to class he posted video lectures on Canvas. As long as you are assigned a good team, the in-class assignments will be a breeze. It is best to take notes before class and you can do those from the powerpoint lects on Canvas. Study for the mid term & final. Definitely participate when possible.
Professor Kalantar is a cool ISMG teacher and cares a lot about the subject as he is currently going for his PHD. In class, there is always a lecture mixed with some group work to help break down the material. The material is digestible but you need to study to really get it. The tests have a good portion of the study guide and the slides.
Hossein is a decent guy, encouraged groupwork and critical thinking. The module set up was very clear and easy to complete assignments and quizzes.
Hossein is a very engaging professor who makes the typically boring world of information systems interesting! He is very knowledgeable and has real world experience that is relative to the course content. He is a great professor who I would love to take again!
The class expectations were very clear and I knew what was expected of me the whole time. He is a very understanding and reasonable teacher and always helped in times where I needed it.
There were a lot of real life examples of the problems he introduced which helped connect the ideas he was teaching. The only negative is that he speaks a little fast.
Clearly a passionate teacher. The material is somewhat dry, but Professor Kalantar did a great job at keeping everyone involved.
I liked that the weekly assignments reflected what was taught that week and re-enforced the course material in a way that was easy to access and comprehend. I also liked the innovative use of technology to study for the course quizzes and exams, which was fitting given the nature of the course material.
