Stutters and has a heavy accent. Worst teacher ever!!
Very hard to understand his accent. Very difficult overall
Very hard to understand, stutters, not much help
difficult to understand, talks to board, unenthusiastic
Hard Tests and labs, will need a tutor to explain his explanations
No Comments
HORRIBLE DO NOT TAKE! can not understand at all, thick accent AVOID!
Hypnotic mumbling, a new play starring Dr. Sohrab.
Sucks as a teacher. ACCENT Teaches himself. Avoid this man!
strong accent, very nice guy, will help if you ask for it
at all costs do not take, he makes things harder than what they are
Stutters( haddadadaa ), Speaks softly, and teaches way too fast
I dropped this class as soon as he introduced himself!
Very Confusing! Strong Accent! Avoid if you can!
Wosrt teacher i have ever had, no matter how hard you study you'll fail
He knows it, but can't teach it!
smart man, horrible teacher, couldn't understand him, talks to board a lot
bad teacher, hard to understand, memorize homework b/c tests are exactly that
Very hard to understand. Not helpful at all.
hard to understand, mutters alot, curves tests, hw not graded
MUST AVOID, STRONG ACCENT AND DOES NOT EXPLAIN CONCEPTS WELL UNLESS YOU MEET WITH HIM ONE ON ONE
Very nice person, you will get lots of exam problems from the hw. SO easy A!
easy A if you want to get A. boz he gave lots of hw questions on the exam and he always explained the hw.
very easy, high curve, helpful out of class, hard to understand but he knows his stuff
The people below claiming it's an "easy A" are math nerds. Get real people. This is bad. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Very hard to understand, Not very helpfull, Uses the word "UMMM" every single sentence...
not a good classroom teacher. talks to the board a lot and mummbles his broken english between "ummm"'s. slightly helpfull if you meet with him one on one after class. tests sometimes more complex than homework examples. recommend to look for an
talks to the black board and give alot of homework. Although not graded and is what all te4sts are made of the homework is still difficult bc the man doesnt teach the class, he teaches himself. "ITS OBVIOUS" is what he'll say in response to most
I would have to say, in my three years of school, this teacher would have to be one of the hardest. He doesn't present the material well, he doesn't answer questions, and he will definetly "teach" you, he will just explain what he knows. It's no
Hard to understand. Very smart but cannot teach.
Good professor, extremely intelligent. Lots of stupid people in this class, so count on an easy A.
VERY HARD TO UNDERSTAND!! Class is boring, test are hard. I got an A in pre-calc, and might fail calc--- DON'T TAKE HIM!! How did he get a job after his interview?? Very smart, but should not be a teacher.
Knows his material, all test problems from homework, what else do you wantin college? Will help when help is needed. Put forth effort, and the A is yours.
HORRIBLE. i ended up dropping the class! NEVER take him.
Just memorize the homework for the tests and you will get an A. It is hard to understand him, because he mumbles a lot.
Tough to understand, but his tests are taken DIRECTLY FROM THE HOMEWORK...so there really is no excuse to fail. He curves all tests, and the labs are easy perfect grades. Go to his office hours, and he will help you. The people who complain are lazy.
Just study the HW problems he goes over before the tests, and you should do fine. He curves every test, and those who failed, ended up getting Cs! He's really not that bad, but he is a little hard to understand.
He is not a good professor. It is difficult to understand what he is saying, mumbles all the time. I had to drop the class. He should be fired.
I am not lazy and I am not an idiot but I had to drop this class, and I HAVE TAKEN CALCULUS BEFORE. He talks to the board, and if he didn't curve the test probably only 3 people in my class would have passed.
My major WAS mathematics until taking this class. He speaks poor english, talks to the chalk board and doesn't teach well. He's a very smart man but not a good teacher. Please, please, please do not take any of his classes.
The man does not speak english.I walked out after the first 10 minutes. Should not be allowed to teach. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
this man is an idiot. he speaks extremely poor english, doesnt let u use a calculator on the exams, and bases his grades on exams only. almost everyone in the class failed, hes not willing to help students when they ask for help. shouldnt be allowed to teach in my opinion
He is extremely hard to understand at times. Labs are extremely easy as he tells you exactly what to do. Tests are derived from hw, but little things are changed to screw you up. About 3/4 of my class dropped, as well as me. Do not suggest taking, unless you already know calc.
if u take him you're gonna fail. i hope he gets fired....
nice old foreign man, but doesnt speak clear english, mumbles and stutters, talks to the board, randomly looks at the back wall, so don't bother raising your hand, classes are boring but tests are taken straight from the homework, takes off points on tests for no reason, easy B/C class but torture
Terrible professor, probably more confused about probability now than when I came into the course. Take this class and ask yourself how the hell this guy got himself hired
His accent is hard to understand, his notes are fairly organized. Must do homework in order to do well on tests, 4 tests total. He is a little boring, but I would recommend him.
If you can memorize all the homework then take the class, otherwise find a teacher who actually teaches. You don't have to go to class unless he is going over the homework.
T-T-Today junior... studders horribly, does not make eye contact with the class, talks to himself, wears wierd sweaters
Wasn't too bad. Tough to understand sometimes, but he gets the point across. Homeworks are assigned in order, exams are easy. Good guy. Nice all around. I would recommend him for an upper level class
Dude, believe the bad reviews! He's AWFUL...I do better on his exams when I don't go to class and teach the stuff to myself. Really hard to understand, not helpful, focuses on little details as opposed to important stuff. He's BAD.
-_- Hard class already, but he gives 4 tests + labs...that's all the work he collects! Do the HW even though you don't turn it in. You mess those up, you're screwed. Stutters and connects every phrase with an uh or ah so it's just one long monotone sentence that lasts 2-3 hours. GL with him, :-p
I cant stand ignorant ppl..oh so just becos he has an accent thats why u THINK he cant teach..He is extremely helpful evrytime I go to him.His exams are not hard if you do the hmk and know the material.I love the man.So glad I took him...if you are scared of him go to his off hrs..trust me he is very helpful..A+..kinda like what i got in the class
this might be the worst professor at towson. IF YOU TAKE HIM YOU WILL FAIL. cant understand him, lots of hw, exams are hw ?'s but mixed up order, he doesn't help your final grade out at all
Could possibly be a nice guy, but HORRIBLE professor. I do better teaching the material to myself. I would recommend doing the homework in order to practice since most of the tests are straight from the homework. good luck with this one- you have to have a lot of motivation to be able to get yourself to teach it to yourself as well as attending his torturous classes.
WORST TEACHER EVER. He just reads straight from the book, doesn't give any real examples for the problems and doesn't explain a thing. Your better off not showing up to class and taking that time to study the material yourself. Doesn't give partial credit on tests (their worth like 80% of your grade!), which are impossible. Avoid at all costs.
his leactures are a bit hard to follow becuse he speaks really fast and has an accent. his tests consist of 10 problems that he goes over the class before the exam, so they arent that hard. the reason im able to pass his class with a C is due to my prior knowledge of precalc from last year.Overall he is a hard professor to follow, but can be easy.
His lectures are boring and I always fall asleep. The only way I did good was because he puts homework problems on the exam, and he always writes the answers on the board. He will talk to you if you see him in his office, but he is still very unclear. Everything is OBVIOUS to him- that's his favorite word. Take this class if you can memorize hw.
take classes with this guy - he knows what hes talking about. his exams are a little hard but i guess thats the point
his tests are reasonable because he gets alot of the questions from the homework, and hes SUCH A NICE GUY. those people leaving comments about his accent, "muttering", and supposed stuttering are exaggerated to an extreme. well, anyway, hes always speaks perfectly clear in my class
I honestly don't mean to sound rude, but I cannot see myself passing this class with Mr. Sohrab as my teacher. I can't understand anything he says, he never stops to let students ask questions, and he teaches as if we already know the information. This has to be the worst class that could have ever happenned to me.
I hate this teacher. He is a horrible teacher. He thinks he knows what hes teaching but he doesnt. I've done all the homework, read the book like it was my favorite and still I fail everything. The problems on the tests are things he NEVER went over. He needs to stop teaching. Period. His accent sucks too, you can never tell what hes saying. Ever.
only take his class if you are good at math. i'm good at it so i'm fine but i can definitely see where others would get lost. he's lenient with points on problems if you show work. also, use the textbook for your notes and do all of your homework - it's really good. quizzes are about once a week there are three questions. STUDY!
great professor, never checks homework, goes over the entire homework after he assigned it and the test comes straight from the homework questions, make sure you come to the class before the exam for sample questions and write everything dwon and you will be fine. Hard to understand sometimes and doesn't really answer involve students in his class
RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!! I was completely lost the entire semester!! He doesn't fully answer your questions and says that everything is "obvious". It's not obvious to me! That's why I'm asking the question! His tests and quizzes are made up of the hardest possible questions from the homework. As for his accent, you'll get used to it by the second week.
This man knows the material, but can't transmit the knowledge to anyone. All of my class except 4 people dropped or stopped coming. His accent is difficult to understand. He constantly told our class the answers were "obvious" yet he is terrible at explaining the process of reaching these "obvious" answers.
Past the VERY thick accent, the class is easy. To get an A you have to go to class, take notes and do the homework. Everything he says he writes on the board. He shows you how to do homework problems. And tests only have previous homework problems that he discussed in class. He does everything due for labs in class so follow his lead in lab.
he's a nice person outside of the classroom, but in the classroom, he mumbles terribly at the board, stands in front of problems, and i had to learn everything from my textbook because i can't understand him through the mumbling and the accent. He's NOT very good at explaining something that is misundersttod either

either talks to the blackboard or the ceiling in the back of the room. (i dont recommend taking him, but its almost worth it to go, just to understand the phenomena) Concepts aren't really crazy, but if you plan on learning anything from him, and not drawing on prior knowledge, I would really really aviod this class
Very hard to understand, so pay attention. 3 tests, non comprhensive final and weekly quizzes. Not that tough of a course if u can teach yourself somethings.
If you have trouble understanding math to begin with, do not take a course with this professor. He is USELESS when it comes to explaining how to solve problems, and he explains things the same way in his office hours as he does in class. Went to math lab tutoring for hours a week, still failed quizzes and tests. Accent and mumbling adds difficulty!
CAUTION! My class started with 40 ppl and now the last month has about 10. He studders and has a heavy accent. Talks very fast and doesn't interact. However, all weekly quizzes are from the homework the night before but you take it right after you review the homework so no time to study. Nicer outside of class.
The tests are drawn from the homework assignments. The professor provides homework solutions on handouts. Lectures are drawn directly from the chapter introductions and examples.
Precalculus class. Fairly tough. It was pretty much the same stuff I did in high school precalculus, however he is very hard to understand. I don't think it makes sense for anyone to take this. If you're a math major you are probably good at math and don't need this, if not, take the easy way out and do Algebra (Math 111)
I was warned ahead of time that he was tough...he makes little sense when lecturing in class, writes too fast on board, and mumbles. Questions never answered clearly. Tests and quizzes are easy though-exact as homework. Fair grader, extra points given. REALLY nice man despite his class-labs are easy. Not all that bad if you want to learn.
Really nice guy. Took this class over summer so it was tougher than normal cause it was all crammed together-still did well though. He doesnt answer questions clearly or involve the class, so be prepared to take notes and study on your own. His tests and quizzes are easy, they come right from the homework. He's a fair grader. Good luck!
He knows his stuff but has a hard time teaching. He writes too fast, mumbles and stutters. Doesnt mind answering questions. Class is not hard, but does take studying. Homework is not mandatory but it helps to do it. Quizzes and test come from homework(hint hint: do the homework)Very prompt and will help a student in need.
Attendance is not mandatory, but he did randomly give quizzes (around 7-8). He would tell you when he planned on giving one if you asked, though. The teaching was not very clear, but the tests were. ALL the problems were literally straight from the homework. He does give solutions to all the homework problems. The only problem is he assigns a lot!
Sohrab is the man.
he's a cutie even though you have no idea what he is saying. If you remember math from high school you will do fine. If not you are screwed cuz he really cant teach with his accent. He is really nice and he will always try and help you.
WOW. drop unless you're good at math/teaching yourself. and buy the book! he gives homework but doesn't check it, and random quizzes at the end of classes which are based on homework. just copy his examples because you won't understand a single word he says!
I had him for my first math teacher. He gives homework from the book, which wasn't collected. But as long as you did it, the quizzes and tests were easy. You get used to his accent; it's not that bad. And if you asked him if you were having a quiz that class, he'll answer you. He often ended class early, or spent it entirely on the homework.
He is a very nice man. He gives a lot of homework problems but they are not collected. He gives pop quizzes about every two weeks based on the homework. He will answer your questions and give a lot of examples. But it is very difficult to understand him. I usually had no clue what he was saying (because he kind of mutters and stutters) or writing b
Professor Sohrab is, in my opinion, not a great teacher. However, he is not a poor teacher either. He molds his tests almost straight from the homework, which is not graded. So as long as you do the homework and seek help if you need it you will do fine. He also is not hard to understand if you listen!
Here's Probability in a nutshell: You're assigned homework. The next class, he gives you answers to the homework. He'll give a quiz... based on the homework. You have an exam... Also taken straight from the homework. Class is tedious, but seriously, it's not hard. Memorize the homework problems and you're golden.
Such an easy class! Do not be discouraged by his accent, you'll get used to it! He gives you homework and then will go over it the next class. Pop quizzes and exams are taken DIRECTLY from the homework problems.
Hard class, I did a lot of teaching myself the content from the book. Homework was not graded and was discussed in the next class. Pretty much told you exactly how to do the labs. Pop quizzes and exams came from homework problems. Fair grader: lots of partial credit and curving. Study and do the homework and you'll be fine.
Sohrab was okay for the first few classes but as we delved farther into the material he had a tendency to rush through the material at times and would mumble on about the material TL;DR: if you can get past his accent and mumbling tendacies you may like him
If you do not have a passion for Math (like everybody else), his non-teaching techniques will make u feel like u r drowning! Don't take him if you r not a Math whiz and if you really want to learn the stuff.
You have to take classes witht professor Sohrab. He is an easy A if you know how to go through his class. Just do the homework, he will go over the homework, study the homework because quizzes and exams come directly from the homework. You can easily get past te accent, mumbling, and stuttering if listen hard. You cannot go wrong with Sohrab.
He gives a lot of homework (unchecked) but goes over it in class. Attendance isn't mandatory but it helps. He does a majority of the lab so just pay attention and follow him. He doesn't want you to fail and is really generous when grading. Pop quizzes are directly from homework so just pay attention. I enjoyed his class and he's a good teacher(:
Class is a little boring, he doesn't take attendance, but he goes over homework in class and tests/quizzes are questions directly from the homework. He gives pop quizzes, although he drops the lowest two. Overall, it's easy as long as you do the homework and study those before a test!
He stands with his back to the class mumbling to the board. If you're not the best at math and need more then someone mumbling incoherently to the board then do not go to him.
Awful. Avoid this professor at all costs. He mumbles, is repetitive, and his English is extremely difficult to understand.
This teacher was incredible. He moves fast and doesn't make too much sense BUT he goes over every single homework problem and the quizzes and tests are directly from the homework. All you have to do is go to class when he goes over the homework and then study them for the tests. Easy A and I didn't even attend all the classes
He's awful, stares at the chalkboard and talks into it. Doesn't explain much and you cant understand what he did explain
Rushes through problems, skips steps he assumes you know, mumbles, and gets upset when asking too many questions. TestsQuizzes are challenging, but come straight from homework. Lots of homework but not graded Labs are halfway done by him, but he leaves a few for you to do on your own If you can take someone else, take them instead.
Literally the worst professor I have ever come across. Mumbles to himself all class, doesn't explain problems, won't answer questions. DO NOT TAKE HIM. You will teach yourself the entire semester.
I liked professor Sohrab, it's a little unclear at first since he talks and writes notes at the same time pretty fast paced. But if you ask for help, he will definitely explain things a little better. make sure to do all your homework since every exam question is from that. would recommend using chegg to better understand hw
He mumbles a lot and if you zone out for two seconds you're completely lost. He also doesn't ever ask for questions so he just talks (mostly to himself) for the whole two hours. It's mostly a class of him showing how good he is at math.
So I thought I was doing myself a favor by knocking out Calc I at Towson over the summer but Professor Sohrab saw fit to crush that dream. The other reviews don't lie, this man literally talks to the board for 3 12 hours and then just drops the chalk and ends class like its nothing. He is the worst professor I've had yet. Do not take this class.
Doesn't explain material at all. Pretty much have to teach yourself everything.
If you do the homework, you will get an EASY A.
He isn't the easiest professor to understand. However, his exams are just the homework questions he went over in class. So, exams should be easy A's if you study. He does give pop quizzes, but they are also from the homework problems. Also, he assigns a lot of homework but its not graded and he goes over it in class.
Barely knows English. He is very hard to understand. On top of this he has a hard time understanding any questions asked in class and will ramble about anything but what was asked. The one upside is homework is not graded, but have fun passing if you don't do the homework.
can be almost near impossible to hear let alone comprehend, rarely makes eye contact with the students Have fun raising your hand for half an hour until he notices you have a question If you do the problem correctly, yet it's not the way he wants you to do, expect points off. The most use you can get out of class time is to work on something else
Alright so a lot of people are mad either because 1. They hate calculus 2. They can't understand the man 3. He doesn't answer questions. You won't be able to pass by just paying attention in class, you'll have to study on your own. It's easy to abuse his system, EVERY question on each test is from the homework. Take him if u have good memory.
Do NOT take this professor. You can't understand a word he says, he doesn't stop to make sure you understand, even if he does stop he will not understand your question. The content is easy enough if you're willing to teach yourself, but he will not help you understand a thing.
If you do the homework, you will have an easy A.
Prof. Sohrab gives a small number of quizzes and labs; make sure to score great and you'll pass easily. He gives homework (lots of items, but don't be intimidated, you don't need to do all of them) and discusses them the next session. Do the homework and you'll do well on the tests (4 tests, non-cumulative). Hard to understand sometimes, though.
Course grade consists of only pop quizzes and exams. Homework is for your own practice. Terrible lecturer: thick accent and he mumbles facing the board the entire lecture without stopping to prompt questions. If the entire class walked out, he wouldn't even notice. But if you can teach yourself the material and do the homework, you'll be fine.
What to expect if you are taking this professor online: There are no lectures, it is asynchronous (no classes but he does do zoom meetings for questions). He posts lecture notes for each section, but they can be confusing so this is a self-taught class (I used youtube to learn the material). Weekly quizzes with 2-3 fairly easy questions.
I had a good experience with this professor. Fairly straight forward grading, no lectures keep in mind that you do have to learn on your own! graded by only quizzes and exams, he does provide great notes and is accessible via zoom meetings and email. The best part is he grades super fast!
