I have this professor now, he is very good. He makes sure you understand the material before moving on and really cares about his students. He does online tutorials, attends midterm study sessions, and is always available to help you out. Don't think its possible to get a professor much better than him.

Dr. Hovig is an amazing professor, Can't reccomend him enough. He really went out of his way for his students, up to the point where it was almost a bad thing (like re-goining through easy topics for kids who don't study on their own time, and then not having enough time for a comfortable pace during the hard parts). Still great though.

It can't be possible to have a better professor. He does everything he can to get the class to succeed and explains every difficult concept so eloquently. You almost feel guilty if you don't put your full effort into this class because of how much time he invests for the students. On top of that, he is super clear with what will be tested on!

BEST PROF EVER! I highly recommend taking orgo with him & ONLY him. Obviously orgo is a hard course & you need to work for it to get a good mark; however, Dr. Hovig has the best way of teaching that makes studying very easy. He is very patient & wants his students to do the best they can. he even puts extra online tutorials that are very helpful.

Honestly, I don't know where to begin. I havn't seen a prof who truly wants us to learn and love the class as much as he did. Taught very clearly, no surprises and spent HOURS giving online tutorials where he reviews everything AGAIN, gives tips and answers your questions. Loved every second in his class.

No words can describe how wonderful he is. Coming from someone who detested chemistry and never achieved more than 70s in highschool, Dr. Hovig completely changed my view of chemistry and actually made it fun! He also gives previous midterms to help you study and even goes over them before each test. practicing questions is required to get a good mark however he ensures you are well prepared for each test! Great Prof! Kind, caring and always goes out of his way to help students. He is very clear at explaining concepts, and breaks down complex ones and builds them up. Overall his tests were pretty easy, but the final was written by all the CHEM1000 profs together - so study hard for that! My grade slipped from an A+ to an A after the final.

Incredible. It was my second time taking this class, and if you want to succeed follow my advice. GO TO CLASS (participation marks that can boost your mark 6%). ANNOTATE NOTES. Annotate on iPad as he doesn't allow computers. GET A TUTOR if any concept is unclear! LISTEN TO BOOTCAMPS AND ONLINE TUTORIALS. Also, exams aren't hard if you keep up!

The best science professor I have ever had. Extremely caring, non judgmental and inspiring person. He simply loves his job. Online tutorials make the concept crystal clear. Put the effort, you're going to get grade mark. Chemistry was my weakest strength but now I want to take even more organic chemistry courses all because of Hovig!

Dr Hovig Kouyoumdjian makes hard topic easy to understand and uses relatable examples.

Just go to class and pay attention. The last chapter of material did feel a bit rushed but that is because a lot of it was review from other chapters. He is great at explaining how to visualize molecules to make it easier for his students, thanks to him I never needed my molecular kit. His lectures are fun and engaging.

Hovig is a phenomenal educator. He has a way of demystifying difficult concepts into a palatable form & routinely goes beyond the call of duty to provide additional support. Doesn't let you use laptops, he is dad tho. attending his lectures is very important if you want to pass and do well. He goes slow at first and then SPEEDS through the last few chapters however it's doable. He's really caring, understanding and good at teaching, overall I really recommend him. <3 Hovig is dad.

He is one of my favorite profs so far in York. He teaches pretty well but he teaches really fast btw. Practice is a MUST in order to do well. His test questions are challenging sometimes, but at least relevant to the materials. Unlike profs in BIOL1000 (Paula Wilson and Julie Clark).

This professor changed my perception of orgo. I was very scared to take this course, but this man made it so much fun especially during pandemic. Beware he is strict with deadlines, but his humour and excitement compensate for that, AND he gives extra 3 hours tutorials before exams. He also cares for his students mental health. I had Hovig for both chem 2020/2021 he is one of the best profs I have had in uni so far. He goes out of his way to hold extra tutorials. He made me love chem even more. You can really see he loves what he is doing but that doesnt mean the class is easy. It is a lot of work especially chem 2021 but he wont give up on any of you.

CHEM2021 is a relatively challenging course, significantly harder than CHEM2020. The course involves many reactions and mechanisms built on CHEM2020 concepts. Hovig is a great professor and is dedicated to give all his time to help you succeed. Attending lectures, tutorials, and practice are vital. Previous knowledge from CHEM2020 is required.

Great prof. Wants you to do well, does lots of office hours and spends time to help you. Must attend tutorials for a good mark. Attended all, did all textbook work, went to class, put work in and got A+.

Dr. Hovig is an amazing prof and will do everything to make sure you understands material by offering a lot of optional help sessions before midterms and exams. He genuinely loves what he does and wants to encourage all his students to find love for chemistry. I would take every course with Dr. Hovig if I could.

Amazing professor! He is so kind and genuinely cares for student's success. He holds multiple study sessions before midterms and the final exam which were extremely helpful. Coming from someone who is not that great in chemistry, he made it so much easier and more fun to learn. The midterms were fair. I recommend taking a class with him!!

Hovig is an excellent professor! Sincerely passionate about chemistry and truly dedicated to helping his students succeed. Midterms/final are fair and his expectations are clearly defined. He offers many extra online help sessions for midterms/finals (basically free tutoring directly from the prof!). If you do the work, an A is totally achievable!

Professor Hovig was one of the best professors I have had. Really knows what he is talking about, cares for his students and always asks for feedback. Take his class if you get the chance.

Hovig was in place of substituting Morin while she's on leave, he teaches very well in terms of course contents, like more in depth and do explain clear and concise; the only thing that was bad is that as it became online classes, it lacks class interactions, but unfortunately not avoidable; overall Hovig is still a very nice choice

Hovig is a very good professor and makes chemistry super interesting and understandable. I took him first year (chem 1100), and he made a rather tricky course very easy. He records his lectures which really helps when studying for midterms and exams and he tells you what will be on be exam and what should be expected. Would highly recommend!!

He is the best prof I have ever had. As someone who doesn't like chemistry and has never done orgo, I was able to understand everything clearly. His tutorials were extremely helpful. He is very caring, engaging, a very good teacher and made organic chem very enjoyable. He is amazing, he even brought everyone chocolate on the day of the final.

Dr. Hovig is an AMAZING professor. He truly cares about his students success. He does not try to trick students on tests and only puts questions that he has done in class. Some of his tutorial questions a bit hard so I mostly relied on textbook questions he assigned. Overall if you study, you are sure to get a A. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!
