MUST ATTEND CLASSES CAUSE IF U MISS THE NOTES UR DONE FOR. 2 EXAMS, MIDTERM 25%, FINAL 75%. SHORT ANSWER ESSAYS FOR EXAMS. TAKE WITH CAUTION. NICE ONCE YOU GET TO KNOW HIM.
Not that bad. He is pretty straight forward with what he wants you to know. No Surprises except for the tests. He asks you things you would not think are important. If you pay attention you will pass.
too fast desnt teach well
worst teacher ever, never ever take him
worst profesor in the world
horribly boring and mean...do not recommend
An excellent professor. VERY DIFFICULT but very knowledgeable. People who rate him low are simply too lazy. I've taken 6 classes with him, ejoyed every one.
Hes pretty good...kinda mean to students though..
the worst, hardest professor probably in america...id rather be homeschooled.
He uses every minute of every class, and also explains EVERYTHING in the text. He's very clear in his explanations, and he is a great professor to talk to. There is just a midterm and final, you need to really know your material to do well.
keep on top of your game.....
Great professor...very interesting and an expert in what he teaches. (he has written about 5 text books)...if youre looking for an interesting class don't miss the opportunity to take him
You definitely don't have to read the textbook to get an A, just pay attention. He just gives a midterm and a final, and the option of a paper. Good class, great teacher.
dont take

i HAD dr. abadinsky in 2003 when he was a professor at saint xavier university in chicago. very good instructor very insightful
Terrible
the worst, he basically just tries to make you feel unintelligent. Everything rides on the midterm and final if you do poorly on 1 you are S.O.L
this guy is the f'n worst dont ever take him. You do awesome on the midterm and then you think you ace the final and you wind up with a C. There's no battling this guy either either its his way or no way. Fire Abadinsky
He gives no review for the final, gives you no idea whats on the test.U basically go into the final BLIND.You have absolutley no idea of,how many questions or what format. He said, and i quote"Chapters 1-15 are on the Final".The worst part about it is there is a TON of material.3 pages of notes a day.DONT EVEN THINK OF TAKING HIM.
Fire this man
His guy is a good teacher, he really know the subject and is willing to help clarify the material so we understand it. All he does is lecture which can be very boring at times, but write down all he says and come to class each day like I did and you will do well on the exam. You do not have to read the entire book just take notes. Thanks for the A!
Do not take this class with him unless you a prepared to work very hard
He's the greatest!
I definitely recommend taking him. He's funny, knows the material well and makes class very interesting. Just make sure you don't miss classes & study your notes thoroughly and you'll get that A. These are just one of those classes you would'nt wanna miss, it was the best :) You're an awesome teacher Abadinsky!
i thought he was a great professor. knows the material very well. there are no chapter tests. just midterm and final. he lectures. just take down all the notes and you'll do fine. skim through the textbook to get a little bit more detail added to his notes for essays. class is very simple and he is fair. you wont regret it!
His test are easy, class is interesting, but a lot of the work you have to do on your own he doesnt review for test but the test are very easy if you pay attention
There is not ONE question on his midterm and final (which, including a term paper, are your only grades), that he doesn't ask at least 3 times in class. The more classes you attend, the higher your grade will be, period. He talks a little funny (very jewish), but is interesting and charismatic. Buy the textbook, he teachers right out of it.Good guy
this guy is horible!! Thinks he's too smart, if u ask him a question not only he won't answer it ,he will make u feel and sound stupid.Tests are diffucult cause u don't know what to study for.Makes easy class diffucult.Too full of him self. DO NOT TAKE HIM!! if u don't wanna have problems.
He is the type of teacher who tells you all the info too much info, and just give you 5 questions on his midterm. you study a lot and his questions turn out to be nonsense. i wouldnt take him at all, not my type of professor. He is a nice guy but im not payin this much money to meet nice people.
don't take him!!!!!!!!!
He was not nice at all...did not tell you what was going to be on the test..he did repeat things in class, but overall I would try to avoid him as much as possible to be honest. No homework...optional paper...midterm is worth 25% of your grade and the final is worth 75% of your grade. Attendance is not mandatory.
Just one midterm and final. Does not interact with students too much, just lectures. If u go to all his classes and pay attention, do not even buy the book. I got an A just by listening to what he lectures, because he promises to not put anything on the test that has not been already discussed in class.
His class is boring, doesn't even require you to come to class. No need for the textbooks cus he explains everything in lecture.Tests are 5 short answer questions.Only 2 tests for semester.I would ignore the comments prior cus he's a good professor but tolerates no nonsense.
I thought it was a good class a little confusing at first but he was a good professor, real helpful
he's really not interested if you grasp the material or not. His lectures are very scattered and confusing. DO NOT TAKE HIM! i was just in a new crj class and when his name was brought up, the ENTIRE class groaned and had horror stories.
he is a bit of a strange man, but is very clear when he speaks. I understood him very well. If you listen to what he says and take notes its an easy A
the worst professor ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! makes you think that you are doing okay. dont go by what you recieve on your midterm, b/c he will screw you in the end. only 2 exams. irecieved an A on the midterm but he them gave me a c+ as a final grade. he wants to see specific words in the answers. avoidddddddddddddd
take at your own risk.................the worst
Not the most interesting professor, but not very hard. If you show up to class and listen to his lectures you will know what to study for the tests. The tests are not hard if you pay attention in class. If you have the general idea of each topic, it is easy to do good. For OC, buy the text book and read it if you dont want to go to class.
He plays favorites, if you ask questions when you attend his class. The material isn't hard, I didn't attend his class too often but when I did, I took a lot of notes and that was all I needed for the tests. I ended up with a A-. There's only a midterm, paper, and a final. Some of things he says is incorrect, so don't believe everything he says.
IF YOU ARE ACTUALLY INTERESTED IN LEARNING ABOUT CRIMINAL JUSTICE TAKE HIM. THERE ARE TWO TESTS. ESSAY STYLE. IGNORE TEXTBOOK.TAKE GOOD NOTES THAT WILL BE ALL YOU NEED TO STUDY. DON'T ASK STUPID ?'S...
he could basically be teaching to an empty class room and not notice or care
this clas is a piece a cake. He's very straigforward and also very lenient. Both his midterm and final are short and straightforward. Don't bother buying the book because if you go to class every day and pay close atention, you should be able to get an A without ever reading the bokk.
Don't take this professor for any classes. You might think that you're doing well but you're not and he is not helpful if you have a problem. He is not a nice man and he refuses to attempt to get along with his students. Avoid at all costs.
This professor is excellent; knows his material and expects his students to perform at a college level, not High School....Extremely interesting and does not cater to those inattentive in class...Outstanding !!! :)
Great teacher. He knows wat he's talkin about n trust me he never stops talkin. The whole class is lecture. Take gud notes. The textbook is also very useful 2 have in class. U need them both 4 da test. There are only 2 test, midterm n final which are very short n very easy if u study. Attendance is not mandatory but get the notes somehow. Take Him!
Really fantastic professor! He'll make you learn but you can easily get an A in this class. Take GREAT notes and don't stress the midterm.
I had him for organized crime and theories in the same semester. he doesn't get the class very involved and he mostly just lectures, but he's full of information and he is clear. Tests are easy as long as you take detailed notes. Reading the book helps, but isnt necessary to pass tests. Only complaint is that for OC, the final was 75% of the grade!
His classes are fairly simple, he lectures and occasionally asks questions to see who is paying attention. I had him for two classes and both only had two tests (mid and final), one of them had a paper. Not hard if you pay attention, and you don't have to read to pass. He's not an easy grader, you'll have to work a little for an A. I liked him.
good teacher... I'd take him again just to hear him go off on theory.
Take Him, knows what he is talking about. I took him for two classes and would take him again.
This professor is not that great. If you love to read boring textbooks, this is the class for you. I don't understand why everyone says he is interesting, because all he does is read out of the book.
one midterm, final, and term paper. make sure you love to read about law. paying attention in class is a must. reading the entire textbook is also a must.
You think your passing but he ends up messing up your entire GPA. He grades to harsh. On the midterm I forgot one word and he marked me wrong for the entire essay question. Everything has to be exact. You get a midterm, 7-14page paper on two books that are BORING and a final that is 10 questions worth 50 points. BORINGGGGGGGGGG!
One of the worst professors! Does not care about his students and think he knows everything! Two tests & a paper. I got an A during the midterm and got an F as the final grade. When I asked why, told me that I did not write what he iterated in class and reiterated the textbook. FYI he wrote the BOOK! How was I wrong when you wrote it? AVOID!!!!
he seemed like a pretty difficult teacher in the beginning but if you stick it out it's not so bad. just take really good notes from what he says. he gives you a midterm & a final, as well as an optional paper. if you take good notes and know what's going on in class,, you'll be just fine. i got a C+ on the midterm, and left the class with an A.
I really can't understand how someone could really find this class to be difficult. I recieved a C as a midterm grade but ended the course with an A. As long as you are good at taking notes (which you should be at this point) you will be fine. I never even purchased the expensive text book!!!
this is an awful professor. grades very harshly. if you cant stand professors that drone on avoid this one.
He was okay. Sometimes he made off the wall comments. His class was all lecture but he expected you to read even if pages weren't assigned. Only a midterm and final. Optional paper, optional attendance. Take really good notes because that's what he tests from. Some of his stories were pretty good.
anyone who said that they enjoyed his class must be a fan of slow torture. He makes you write a paper based on books that aren't even in print anymore, the library had to check the archives for me. Not at all helpful & his tests, the midterm and final count for most of your grade & unless you memorize the book, you have no real chance of doing well
If you actually want to learn something about criminal justice take him! You must take excellent class notes. The tests are based on class notes. (Short answer essay style) If you want to take a class in which you actually feel like your in college and not highschool take him. (P.S. He is helpful)
i had im for intro to crime i never wanted to take him again. then my advisor placed me in his class again he is the worst professor he is not helpful, he is rude and he makes you buy his text book so if you dont understand him in class you wont understand the textbook. waste of time
i hated his class. he's really unfair when he grades. i wrote exactly what was on the textbook for the midterm and he gave me a D because i didn't write what HE said in class! then it's a whole long and frustrating process trying to make an appointment with him. DO NOT TAKE HIM! advisors apologized for students having him as a teacher.
I took this class as a professional elective. If you are into criminal justice and want to learn and understand he is good. If you are just looking for an elective, this class is way to hard. There are only two tests (midterm and final). He is an extremely hard grader,I mean word for word short answer. Attendance, class participation doesnt count.
I did not even need the textbook. Go to class and take very good notes and you will be fine for the midterm and final, which are fairly easy. I went from a D+ on the midterm to a B+ as a final grade. If you show great improvement he will give you a fair grade.
This is an awful professor. DO NOT take if you want to keep your overall gpa up. This is one of those professors that is always TBA because otherwise they would have no students. If you have the misfortune of taking him make sure you read and reread the textbook several times.
this is the worst professor ever. i wrote exactly what he wrote in his book. how can i be wrong if "he" worte the book. he grades harshly and doesnt care about his students. i busted my butt for his final to walk with a C- and i excelled in my other 5 classes. he is the worst stay away if you dont want to ruin your GPA
I took him when he taught in Chicago at Saint Xavier University. I was always had a high interest in learning about organized crime, so I took his class as an elective. BIG MISTAKE!!!! He grades very unfairly, like the previous comments stated. Had perfect attendance but dropped the class due to unfairness in grading. Big Disappointment!!!!!!!
Took him my senior year for Organized Crime. If you pay attention and read the text book he is not a hard professor. Not an easy A, but he emphasizes what is important to know for the tests and if you payed attention you will know exactly what will be on the test. I barely took notes and got an A- in his class
Not an easy professor in certain cases. If you are taking him, TAKE NOTES! Attendance is not mandatory. There is only a midterm and final! But he does want detailed answers. Dont ask any questions because he thinks everyone is an idiot. If you are sensitive dont take! You really dont need the textbook, onl if you are absent alot
Professor Abadinsky is from the old world of teaching, i.e. straight from the text, with daily tests and ultimately a research paper. There is no problem there, however, Professor Abadinsky is such a difficult grader and somewhat difficult to approach. I would avoid for CRJ 2001 (Theories) by all means.
Abadinsky is NOT a bad teacher AT ALL.. i dont know why everyone hates him so much.. his tests are open book and you chose the books you'll use for the research paper.. hes a nice guy and if you pay attention you will learn something bc he tries hard to make you understand.. just take notes and you'll get an A
By far the worst prof. at Saint John's. Reads out the book he wrote the entire time in class. His book is one giant bibliography, not original and nothing of his own work, very boring. Don't ever take his classes you'll regret it.
He is a very unfair grader and he doesn't dictate very well. I strongly recommend that you buy/rent the required textbook and attend every single class if you can and take good notes.
Great professor. Took him about 3 years ago. I failed the midterm, and then did well on the final. Ended up with an A-. He gives exams based on EXACTLY what he speaks in class, so it's fairly easy.
He's not too bad, but can get a bit boring at times. he never writes on board, so be prepare to write all his dictations which come from the textbook he wrote. Two exams open notes only can be used. a term paper at the end. I only wished he gave us some more insight on his experiences, he has a great career background. I would take him again.
He is a great Professor , used a textbook that he wrote himself and read out of the text entire class so just follow the chapters. Open book exams so its not that bad. His class consisted of 2 major exams. However he can be a little boring at times.
Great professor. Class is lecture style so sometimes it can get hard to pay attention but if you're interested any aspect of the criminal justice system you will enjoy his class.Take him if you get the chance!
he reads from the book. The test are tremendusly hard.
He is a good guy but a tough professor. Kind of ruse to you if you keep asking where you are in the book or what the definition of a word was. Open book tests on the textbook which he reads the entire semester and actually wrote himself. Overall I wouldnt take him if you take poor notes and dont like essay related exams...
nice guy but he teaches a hard class and he flys through material faster than you can write your name. if you can follow his constant reading through the textbook and occasional off topic stories then you will be fine but if you take bad notes and sit there don't expect to pass. Open book tests area a huge plus so take notes!!!
this professor is not good. he is not helpful when it comes to questions. thinks he is to smart for his own good. only 3 potential grades so if he doesn't like one of them then you fail. absolutely no help if you have fallen behind. boring and rude. it was like taking a graduate class after law school. also a very ridiculous Grader. DO NOT TAKE!!
Abadinsky is a horrible professor. Besides his classes being extremely boring, he is very rude. He talks to his students like they're supposed to read his mind. DO NOT TAKE HIM! On the plus side, 2 major exams - final and midterm both open book and a term paper. But the paper is torture -___-
Hes not a bad professor, he can be really boring but his tests are right out the textbooks. He picks out questions from the end of the chapters and the test is open book. The only thing is he likes his own words not really yours. so answer the questions with word for word from the textbook and you will be okay.
Overall bad prof. He makes an incredibly easy subject impossible. I mean come on people this is criminal justice only hard courses should be law related.
This class wasn't as bad as everyone made it out to be. Just show up to class and take notes. Bring the textbook to class, he uses it often. The midterm and final are open note. Just pay attention and go to class and you'll do fine. The paper is pretty easy, if you talk to him, he'll let you do your paper on whatever books you want.
Prepare to hand-write lecture notes or highlight from textbook; reads from his textbook, then elaborates. Does not allow lap tops, iPads, electronic devices including ebooks. Exam questions will never be fill-in, multiple-choice, or T/F; always essay questions from textbook chapters. Final paper is serious, research thoroughly & write immaculately.
He's an awful teacher and will ruin your gpa.
HORRIBLE MAN Please Avoid at all costs, and you cant even look at the time on your phone. will spoil your GPA, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
He is not that bad!! His tests are open notes, even the final, and you get to write the paper on whichever books is on the long list he assigns. What is so bad about that? His lectures are long and can be boring but he reviews for you if you want. There may be better theories teachers but i learned alot and i thought he was fine.
He's not helpful and he's not nice. But he's easy. Lectures are long and drag on and they basically suck but he doesn't take attendance and his tests are all open notes and based off of the book he assigns you to buy. USE THE CHAPTER SUMMARIES AT THE END OF EACH CHAPTER TO TAKE NOTES BECAUSE YOU CAN USE YOUR NOTES ON THE MIDTERM AND FINAL.
Most mono-tone person i have ever met. Classes are the most boring things you will sit through. Luckily, attendance doesn't matter. Only 2 tests- midterm and final and they are literally the exact questions asked at the end of the textbooks chapters. One paper in each class that he grades pretty roughly.
He's very intense! GO TO CLASS! If you pay attention and take detailed notes, which he will let you use on the midterm and final you will do good.
Nice guy, just a boring lecturer. Easy class though.
If you care about your G.P.A, DO NOT take this class. Only a mid-term, final and paper. He will not give you the benefit of the doubt. Extremely hard grader. Says attendance doesn't matter(still takes it) You can be a top detective and know all the material and you will probably still fail or barely pass. Not worth it.
To anyone that thinks this guy is a "hard grader" and that you "don't learn anything." You're bugging. I took his class and it's the easiest thing ever. All you have to do is show much write down all of the notes and he lets you use them on the final and midterm. Anyone that fails his class, it's your own fault. He doesn't take attendance either
Be ready to be bored! This class has been by far the most lecture heavy. There is a required essay where you have to select two books and write a 7-14 page essay, compare and contrast. He does have office hours and I do suggest to go if you need help or if your grade isn't doing so well. Ask questions in and out of class to not get left behind!
A little unsure as to why his reviews are so bad. He lecture's heavy, but the midterm and final are open book based on the review questions at the end of each chapter. If you do bad on either exam it's because you didn't take the time to do the review questions. Gives 2 exams and a paper. paper is very time consuming but all in all a decent class
He is not as bad . Its a midterm final and paper(7-14 page) tests are based on review questions at the end of the chapter, if you write all of the answers in your notebook you will get an A on the tests. The paper took a while but wasn't awful. He takes attendance but it doesn't matter. i skipped a bunch and did fine. honestly requires min. effort
ive taken him 2 times, if you get an A on the final he will give you an A for the course, I had a D at the midterm but finished with an A. he takes attendance but it doesnt matter. i would go because he lets you use the notes on the test and the textbook isnt too helpful with the review question for theories of crime compared to AM judicial system
this guy is not as bad as rate my professor makes him look. i finished with an A in the class by only going to the first class, the midterm, and the final. the tests were easy as long as you took notes straight out of the textbook. the paper was time consuming and frustrating tho, but i didnt read any books so hes probably not the toughest grader
Absolutely do not take this man. He is the most boring professor that I've ever had and only grades you based on your midterm, final and paper. He doesn't take attendance. He reads directly from his own textbook and does absolutely nothing else for an hour and a half. Literally a waste of $. You have to teach yourself he doesn't teach.
I will not take him again. Ever. I tried to be positive in his class after studying hard & getting a bad grade. Only graded on two exams, he wants people to always participate yet, doesn't give credit for doing so. He did not cover 6 chapters that he claims you need to know for the final. Ridiculous honestly.
Boring lectures and the test are like 10 questions, but super hard.
I read the whole book, was present for every class, and wrote superb tests. This man gave me the lowest grade in the class because my answers did not meet his standards in terms of opinions. Unfairly graded. Dont take him
Worst professor I've probably ever had. His classes are so boring and he loves to get off topic. Yes, he lets you use your notes on the tests, but he is such a hard grader. If you don't write exactly what he wants he'll take off so many points. Avoid!!!!
Honestly Spare Yourself and Your GPA. Painfully BORING lectures to sit through, its sad that hes still here at St. Johns. They should do better. (Hes 10 yeard btw) it suck that he doesnt care about the students doing well in his class or not. Grade is made up of 3 things: a midterm, term paper, final exammmmm !
Honestly, this has been the worst professor I have ever had. Even when I discussed my concerns he would make me feel worst about myself. I am a good student and try my hardest and he never cared. He is a tough grader, if you do not write what he wants word for word, you will not do well. Such a shame.
Save yourself, think about YOUR future before you take this class. St Johns hides this man's name in registration so you don't dodge his class. If you don't say the exact words he wants you to say on a quiz you get NO points. He is horrible at responding to emails and when he does it is poorly written(ironic) and you cant even tell what he's saying
DO NOT TAKE!!!! Worst professor Ive had! Makes you feel like you do not make any sense when you voice your concerns about the class and how youre doing, barely passed the class when I used his own textbook to complete the exams. Takes so many points or even gives you a 0 if you do not write exactly what he wants! SAVE YOUR GPA PLEASE!!
It's easy and hard to do at the. same time. It's online but he takes attendance for every class. Your grade is based on four exams and you must complete all four, your last exam is your final. Also, if you read his textbook the class is straight forward. The downside to this course is the fact that he's not very helpful (straightforward)
Teaches online courses but doesn't know how to use technology. Also takes off credit on tests even if the answer is in the textbook.
terrible teacher ill drop out before i take him again
Very unhelpful and uncaring for his students needs. He assigns various tests that must be taken directly from the textbook. Many of the questions given on these exams are very vague and most of the time cannot be found in the textbook, although he says they are. Extremely tough grader and very uncaring for his students. WILL NOT TAKE AGAIN
