This International Business professor is by FAR the worst instructor I have EVER had. He is rude, crude, and doesn't remotely care about the students. He doesn't explain anything and he is SO boring.
Extremely boring. A great subject - just not with him.
He knows a lot about it. One of the best Professors on campus.
I had to switch out of his class to one with a different teacher. I didn't like his teaching style at all. He would ask open ended questions and we wouldn't get definite answers.
I took his class during the summer, Monday through Thrusday at 7:30AM!! He is so boring, but was always rather nice. He also was not much help on our two projects, namely the Currency Project. Make friends in the class, they'll be more helpfull and keep in mind, you CAN sleep right in the fromt row!
Excellent prof...learned much during the class....great examples and projects that help with learning!
This is the whiniest person I have ever met. He doesn't care about anything but himself, and shows no compassion or concern for anyone else.
I took this as a summer course. He expected WAY too much outside work. Too many essays. Was consumed with the idea of taking his church to other lands, ie China. Focused on Asia and Rusia rather than talking about how america effects the world economy.
Dr. Cochran was a good teacher, boring.. but if you can tough that out, you'll be sure to get an A. Plus he takes time out to pay for half of everyone's lunch!
HA! If you like hearing "Eye of the Tiger" time to start dancing on top of your desk. He is weird and strange. One of the only teachers I've ever made fun of.
He has to be the WORST advisor at Belmont. He offered no help to me at all, and didn't even seem to care what I wanted to take. I got rid of him quick! Unless you like pain, don't ever associate with this man!
His tests are a bit difficult and he has a tendency to go off on wild tangents. But, he has to be one of the most personable and friendly professors I've ever had.
Although this course was slightly difficult, I highly enjoyed taking it with Dr. Cochran. He is such a funny guy, and he actually tries to make economics interesting. He is very good about flexibility within the course. His tests are slightly hard though, make sure to study.
Dr. Cochran is a funny guy. Really into economics even though this was international business. He was very flexible with assignments. I would take his class again.
A very, very nice and happy-go-lucky guy. The best economics professor at Belmont, hands down. (I had friends who took Thompson or Hodgin. Definitely take Cochran instead, if you can!)
Macro starts off easy enough, but around week 3, Dr. Cochran took off on a GDP tangent and never really explained the basics. It gets harder as it goes...He WILL keep you until the very last minute of class, and you'll only get one short break for a 4 hour class. He IS a very interesting man, and he has some great stories, but I would have prefer
Dr. Cochran is personable, funny, and knows his stuff without question! The topic is boring, but pay attention -- your tests count on it. Xtra credit opportunities are given -- TAKE THEM! Accept the quirkiness and you'll do fine. I will take him again.
Professor Cochran is really a great teacher. Very enthusiastic about Macro. I took him for a weekend class. Great time and really was not that hard and enjoyable while in class. Very interesting stories and is a little quirkey. I would gladly take him again.
Professor Cochran used to be worthwhile. All he is concerned about is getting to China. He needs to go. Definitely has lost his focus. Avoid if possible.

I find myself wondering what we are talking about constantly. He mostly talks about concepts and there is a real lack of substance. He is bright but just not the best teacher.
He's an affable guy with a pleasing personality. He's very interested in his subject and does a good job conveying enthusiasm. In my opinion he's a bit cheesy and the christain, religious stuff should stay in church. Also, he seems to think that by travelling to china and asia with a school group a few times makes him some sort of expert.come on!

Microeconomics was less intensive that macro, probably since some of the concepts were already covered from macro. Took micro after macro in 8-week session. Good lectures and classes, keep up with CengagNow, very useful, helped me learn, also an important part of the grade. Can relate economics to anything, especially China!
Do your self a favor and don't buy the book for macro or micro, just buy a code from the bookstore, everything you need will be online. Easy A, but will have to SUFFER through the lectures. Nice guy, but learned nothing from him, self taught myself.
A great experience. He is a terrific lecturer, the clickers make the class that much more fun!

I loved his class! The class is completely discussion and participation based so it is very interactive and entertaining. If you study and pay attention you will get an A in the class.
What a great professor. I was skeptical going into this class, but professor Cochran is great. He's hilarious and makes learning fun. The toughness of the class is all up to you. If you keep up with the homework you will be fine. If not, it will be much tougher. Overall I would defiantly recommend taking this professor.

I took Micro from him. Funny stories. Sometimes his lectures were confusing, but if you read the textbook before doing the online assignments, it will be extremely easy to get an A on all of them. Very easy tests and quizzes. Read the textbook!! It will help sooo much. If I hadn't, the class would have been VERY hard instead of one of my easiest.
This class is really easy if you just read the book and look over the powerpoints. Cochran just lectures by reading from them, so you pretty much can teach yourself without him. All assignments are online, and they're really easy. Not a bad class.
You pretty much teach yourself everything. It's all online really and it's easy to find the answers, but he doesn't have patience for those who do not understand.
Unless you enjoy teaching yourself, not having the professor know your name, or waiting days to weeks to get an email response then don't take him. Attendance is mandatory even though his powerpoints and assignments are all online. Total waste of class time, it should've been an online class.
when the technology failed to work, class would literally shut down and get cancelled as if he were unable to do lecture without his technological support. Essentially, the Macro course he teaches might as well be an all-online course. It is obvious he is a knowledgeable at economics, but his skills as an EDUCATOR of economics are under par.
Really annoying because you teach yourself everything. He reviews powerpoints during class but ALL work is done online. Nice guy, easy to do well if you can teach yourself.

We all know that finding a good Finance class at Belmont is impossible, but I feel very lucky to have landed in Cochran's class. He's enthusiastic and finds the subject very interesting which is entertaining for me. He also is willing to spell things out in the easiest possible terms for you because he gets it on the deepest level. Really liked him
Finance by no means is an easy class. It requires a lot of work and dedication - but, Professor Cochran is a FANTASTIC teacher to have. He is so nice and really cares about his students. Even though the class may be a challenge, he makes the assignments and tests easy for everyone. I absolutely recommend him!
Business Finance is bad enough, but Professor Cochran is not a great teacher. He's very dull, only speaks off powerpoints, and not that helpful to get any answers outside of class. Don't even think about extra credit. Good luck teaching yourself everything after leaving class.

Terrible professor. This class might as well be an online class. Lectures straight from powerpoints. Randomly gets mad for no reason. No food allowed in class, nor can you go to the bathroom. Doesn't know his students, nor does he care. Will not answer questions, saying we don't have time for it. Avoid if you can!
The class is ok. You take a lot of online tests per chapter & then take in class ones on the same ones. Everything is in the powerpoints. He cares more about 'respect' toward him than your grade. He is extremely condescending & belittling. He won't even try to learn anyone's name unless they piss him off (& he does get pissed).
Don't take Cochran if you can help it. He is extremely belittling towards his students and won't even let you go to the bathroom during class. Very frustrating and just a downright bad teacher.
Class is entirely online based. Dr. Cochran is rude, belittling and disrespectful towards his students. Could have not shown up and still gotten an A. Avoid it unless you really don't care. Worst experience with a professor at Belmont by far.
Dr. Cochran is polite, helpful, knowledgable, and made class fairly engaging. Took him for a four hour night class, but he did well with it. Class isn't that difficult if you pay attention and do the assignments. Would recommend him highly.
I would highly caution anyone about to take his class. All of the homework and "tests" are online with almost no crossover to the classroom. After two absences, 3% will be deducted from your final grade for each time you miss class. So unless you plan on having nearly perfect attendance do not take his class.
Cochran is an outstanding professor, one of the best I have ever had, he is very helpful outside of class.
Doesn't connect with students very well and doesn't treat students like adults. Very frustrating semester and I would not reccomend as a professor.

I'm telling you right now to not take Howard Cochran. Sure his class may be "easy" but he is so disrespectful and talks down to his students. Doesn't care about the students, but more about himself. Wont let you eat or go to the bathroom, like is this high school?

If you're comfortable with the basics of Economics, chances are you won't have a problem with his class. I am terrible at Econ and therefore struggled to make a B-. Class average was right around B-C+. Good about extra credit, but confusing and very boring during lecture. If you're good at Econ, I expect you won't have trouble with the tests.
Cochran understands the material almost too well and it gets in the way of his teaching. He assumes you know the basics of economics and doesn't spend a whole lot of time explaining things. He reads directly from a powerpoint for about 4 hours. Don't take him if it's a night class because you will fall asleep.
The whole semester I listened in class, took excellent notes, and talked to him after class about homework I did not understand but still failed tests. He puts different material on the tests than what he went over in class. His reasoning for this is "if I tested you on what I already said in class then it would be too easy".
Unapproachable and spills microeconomic-material to us as if we already know it and/or like we're going through a review. Extremely confusing and very difficult exams. My macroeconomic professor (best teacher of all-time) last semester saved me this semester, since a lot of material overlapped each other. Stay away from Cochran if you can.
Dr. Cochran is an excellent teacher. I had him for a 4 hour night class, and even though he usually kept us the full time, he was always enthusiastic and kept class interesting. I learned a lot from this class and have to disagree with the other reviews that found him unapproachable. He was always more than happy to answer any questions I had.
Dr. Cochran may be sarcastic and a little too into Econ, but he is one of the best professors I have had. His lectures are memorable and easy to understand. Even when it gets confusing he is open to and happy to spend time helping students understand. Tests are fair, homework is easy and his class is entertaining! Take him!
Long lectures, but an amazing man. I greatly respect him and even though the work was hard and required a lot of effort, if you put the work in you'll get good grades.
I went on a study abroad trip to Hawaii with him. I loved it so much. He made me feel safe and like I could come to him about anything.
Dude sucks. He tries to be funny but is hella awkward. For example the man purposefully said "Hoo-Yah" all year in place of the Army's "Ooh-Rah", and a man who served 28 years in the army sat behind me and his face would just turn red. Our military deserves better and so do you, stop paying his salary.
Cochran is a great guy and understands that Finance isn't everybody's cup of java. He brings an enthusiastic attitude to class and tries to keep it interesting. Thank you Howard.
Took the 8 week Macro class with Dr. Cochran and it was very challenging for me. The lectures were boring and the online platform for HW is terrible. Although the course is difficult, Dr. Cochran is a caring person who attempts humor often during his classes. He is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about his courses but overall too difficult.
Dr. Cochran is a very knowledgeable economist. I took the 8 week course Micro as well as Macro with him and it was very easy to make a good grade. Just do the online hw and study for the quiz that happens at the beginning of each class. Quizzes are not hard as long as you go over the powerpoints. Take him if you can!
He knows what he is talking about. Mostly easy to understand, but if you are confused he is happy to explain. His tests are similar to his lectures, but not the same in order to avoid it being too easy. He provides extra credit on tests to help you get a better grade.
He is enthusiastic and brings a good attitude to the classroom. You wont learn much from him in this class. A 3 hour powerpoint lecture from him is no fun. You better speak up if you dont understand something because you will soon be lost. He tries to be funny but is just weird. At least he tries. Hard class although only a couple tests.

Dont get on his bad side because I truly believe he picks favorites. Test heavy (long tests) and lecture heavy. You cant use your phone in class either. Worst teacher in the world. Do not take him, I had 3 friends warn me not to, and ignored the reviews and still did. It was a huge mistake, I had to drop the class. Do not take his class!! he never stops talking!! He grades hard, always will disagree with you!
So so bad. He teaches us how to do the functions on Excel but we are heavily tested on the algebra. But you have to know the excel because he partly tests on that. He is bad at explaining when you ask questions and always sighs like its not his job. You pretty much have to teach yourself both methods because his lectures are so fast and chaotic.
Dr. Cochran has a dry sense of humor and tries to make the class more fun, but finance is such a heavy and intense subject. I basically taught myself everything by just reading the book, looking at the Excel examples in his lecture slides, and practicing using Excel on my own time. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE because it will get you.
Do not take him at any cost. I am serious. Even though I did well, Professor Cochran is very boring and stale with his monotone voice. It just seems like he hates his job. I took his class during the pandemic so take that with a grain of salt, but man this class takes the joy out of life. He sits and lectures through a boring powerpoint for 2 hrs.
The worst professor. if you want to fail, please take this class. if you HAVE to take this class, call your family and let them know you will be depressed for the next couple of months because he sucks at teaching and yo have to teach yourself everything.

Lectures are a little rough and he can be hard to approach, but he is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about what he teaches. You will probably have to do a little bit of self teaching with this class.
He is a decent professor, Cool stories, but his lectures drone on and on. The papers he makes us write are not hard but they are long, single-spaced, 2 pages. We have Connect assignments on top of that and Tests and quizzes. Too much work, for a class that I have not learned much from so far.
Prof. Cochran is such an intelligent man! Use this to your advantage! His classes can feel long and draining but just power through. You might have to do some self teaching but if you are confused early on and ask him for help or ask him to repeat something he will help you!!! His jokes are funny in an awk way! You will love it just stay focused!
the way his class is set up just did not work for me personally, his lectures are long and boring and i found it hard to focus for the whole meeting. also took him literally a month to respond to an email i had sent. you will definitely have to do a little self teaching
I took the summer semester 4 week online course and it was super easy. All assignments were in connect and we had two very easy papers. He was SO kind when you reached out about clarification and you could really tell he cared about his students success. I really enjoyed this class.
