He's a great math teacher, problems are easy and same with the tests.
Very easy, very funny especially when he wears his all black suit and looks like anakin skywalker with his bald head and sagging facial tissues. Easy tests, no need to attend class... if the class is closed he'll always always add you in if you ask.
Easiest class i've ever take before~~ no HW, and easy test.
he is really nice and willing to help (and doesn't care if you dont go to class), but his teaching style is very disorginized, so if you need structure the class can be very difficult.
Best teacher ever!!! You WILL pass!!!
he doesn't know how to teach but you'll never fail this class if you want to pass just take him, never take if you want to understand the material.
You dont need to go to class and your better off teaching the stuff to urself. His examples were unclear and he is very lazy. Tests are all multiple choice/fill in and there is no homework. You can pass easily cuz 55% is a C.

Do NOT take a class from him if you need to move on to higher math classes. You basically teach yourself - he actually said "You'll never see a book do it this way, but it usually works for me." He never takes attendence. NO partial credit on

Open notes test
he doesn't explain the material, you better stay home insted of going to class and study on your own, this way u saving time!! It's such a waisting time to go to his class. Don't take this class with him if you're planning to take a higher math class.
he's a good understanding guy but not a good teacher. doesn't explain things, and is lazy. easy to pass.

Doesn't take attendance, collect homework or grade on a curve. Only 4 exams + final. Exams are 20 questions(5 points)each straight from the book. No partitial credit. Doesn't want to see work only the correct answer. Teach yourself or get a tutor. "D
80% to get an A;40% to pass. Three exams(16 multiplechoice questions). Explain the material over and over again. Easy A
Doesn't know how to teach! He will start rambling on...leaves you lost. Says his tests are out of the book, but he changes the problems around. Open note tests, but very hard. Not clear at all in lecture. Horrible teacher. Take, if you know the material.
A 55% is a "C" but you have to teach yourself everything. His writing is illegible. He writes too fast. He CANNOT teach derivatives to save his life. I only passed because my b/f is a math major. Do not take him if you plan to take higher math

He mumbles.
Oh,my god!!Even it is open notes test, but still so hard! I really like him as a person, not a teacher!
i honestly stayed for the entire class like 3 times... i swear... you have to teach yourself the material... cool guy, but he messes up a lot on the problems... you have to catch his mistakes...
THIS TEACHER IS THE BEST....you never have to go to class he doesnt care about anything...and you can have a friend take the test for you and he will never know. He doesnt care about anything. 3 test only and 16 questions each..THE BEST
Oh man. He took over my visual basic class. this guy is a jerk He cant teach to save his life. He had no idea what he was talking about and he gave us the wrong equation for our final then took off points for not catching his mistake. it wasnt math class!
Easy class if you teach yourself. He doesn't teach at all, it's pointless to go to the lectures. 3 tests 16 multiple choice questions a lot like the sample exams. 80% is an A, 60% is a B...
Only take him if you learn quickly or have a good understanding of mathematics. If you struggle a bit, it might be a bit more difficult.

horrible teacher, he just scribbles some stuff on the bourd and then lets you go home early everytime without teaching, and when its test time the whole calss is cheatin, and get a's, and whoever doesnt , good luck.
He's a very easy teacher, 80% is an A, however i recommend going to class to learn the material.
These people are crazy. HIS STAT CLASS IS THE EASIEST CLASS IVE EVER TOOK. YOU COULD GUESS ON EVERY TEST AND PASS. I TRYED ON FIRST TEST GOT AN A.... TEST TWO AND THREE PICKED ONE LETTER (A,B,C,D) ALL THE WAY DOWN. STATISTICALLY CANNOT FAIL...
the class is great if you learn quickly. if you do then go to class cause he teaches you stuff so simply dont even bother trying to teach yourself with the book. btw you get out way early.
THIS TEACHER SUCKS.He comes to class dressed scrubby with his belly hanging out. Scribbles some S_ _ t on the board. Then lets everyone cheat on the test. Doest care if you come only on test day to cheat. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS UNLESS YOU KNOW CALCULUS FROM BEFORE OR YOULL FAIL.
terrible, do not waste your time. He doesn't teach well and his tests are bizarre. Absolutely not recommended!
If you know how to cheat, take his class... because that is the only way you can pass.. good luck with him
he mumbles a lot and scribbles illegibly on board, have to teach yourself the material, argumentative personality, would advise you to take someone else if you really want to learn the stuff, however he does grade easy (80% is an A, 60% is a B), very easy to get a B without much effort
He is a very good teacher has the best grade scale 8o is an A and 60 is a B and 40 is a c i really recommened him.
He is a very smart person. He teaches only what you need to know. If you come to class and pay attention, you don't have to spend too much time studying yourself. If you are a slow or lazy student, don't take his class.
Professor Dachslager is one of those professors that actually cares whether you learn the material or not. Sometimes he can be difficult to follow, but ask questions and he's more than willing to clarify.
lets just say he is the most lazy teacher ever...doesn't teach...doesn't care if you go to class...and most of all u don't even have to go to class except on test days...and lastly...u can cheat real easily...and he lets u use a page of notes on the test..how pathetic..can't believe he is a teacher!
I thought statistics was easy and he said it would be. However, it was a very confusing class for me. He taught too fast and only went on if say about 10 people knew what he was talking about. I have to take the class over because I couldn't keep up with what he was saying. I would recommend the cla
DONT CHEAT! people take him cuz they think its easy to cheat! he has different versions of every test,(4 versions of the final exam) & he will know if you cheat! if you can teach yourself calculus, take him! open note test (1pg. allowed but most people bring more!) 4 tests + final that counts twice!
the only reason i did so well in calc is bc i took calc AB and BC in high school--i didnt learn anything in this class! smart guy, but doesnt know how to teach this stuff...he even tells you that calc isnt something you can teach! grading scale is very fair though: 85-100 is an A, 70-85 is a B, etc.
ok I was really stupid that i took my classes with him. iwas lucky that i could pass his classes cuz i had calculus in highschool.this guy doesnt teach at all and u cannt cheat. iam a good cheater and still he cought me. u think he doesnt see u but he some how figur it out from ur answers and the f
don't listen to these other people - his class is ridiculously easy, and the textbook is one of the best that i have ever used. if you don't understand, just ask and he will clarify; oh, and by the way, don't cheat because its immoral, not because he'll catch you
I will say he is the worst teacher in IVC. You learn nothing from him. He doesn't how to teach at all. However, if you are good at self- study, go for him. He don't care about attendence becuase even though you show up you will still learn nothing.
If u really want to take him, make sure that u have got enough money to retake it.. otherwise, pick other professor
Very helpful! Take the time to do your work and go to class prepared. He is very knowledgable, but like most math oriented minds, his communication skills are limited. If you are an excellent student then you will learn alot from him on the other hand if you need someone to hold your hand through college courses find another professor.
There is no Academic honesty.... Need I say more... If you want to learn he is there to teach but sometimes can be hard to follow... class is fun and he has a very flexable grading scale.
this instructor is reli insane. dun take him...
Just find someone who had your class last semester and take their tests from them. He changes the tests and practice tests every semester. If you are a great cheater, take this class its an easy A.
Best grading scale on the planet. 80% A, 60% B, 40% C, 20% D. But he's a bit confrontational. He constantly tells people to ask questions, claiming he won't bite. But he does. He'll belittle you if you're wrong and love you if you're right. He's not all bad, though. He's passionate and got an interesting angle on life. I think he's crazy.
It would be more helpfull: if teacher assigned homework problems to students, second, he could have assigned to students problems that could be learned not randomly chosen to be learned when we where not assigned those problems. Third, no one learns a book without a good instructor.
this class was crazy. he's crazy. i did really well when I came to class, but it was my first semester and i wasn't disciplined enough to come when it didn't count. i missed three classes and went from an A to a C because i missed too much and couldn't catch up. PAY ATTENTION and you'll pass.
I would use expletives, but I can't.
he SUCKS! who gives multiple choice for programming tests? hes bad at teaching in both computers and math.If you get an A you deserve a medal.
He is very unclear. DO NOT TAKE HIM OR YOU WILL HAVE TO RETAKE THIS CLASS. he comes to class and talks about some problems and usually has several mistakes. seems knowledgable but not understandable. if you take him you are on your own. read the book and do all the problems. maybe you get a B...
I took his class during Spring 2005. My grade didn't come out too bad. However, he doesn't know how to teach at all, like what other people said, you need to study everythin yourself. He is always mumbling. He is the worst Math teacher in IVC.And i think he shouldn't teach, he should retire, very unorganized and unclear person. Don't take him!
HE is terrible. don't take him
this teacher is a little scatterbrained. The class is really easy though. The grading is really easy and the tests are multiple choice. There is no homework and he doesnt take role. And also he normally lets class out early. I am horrible at math and i recieved a b in the class.
He is not helpful, and he never teach us wht we have to know.
He is an easy teacher, if u want to learn do not take math class with him. He is very smart but can not explain at all.
I started taking Introduction to Statistics with another teather who was much harder, and Prof. Dachslager is soooo much easier. I would recommend him for anyone taking Introduction to Statistics.
he is super nice and he really cares about his students. he tries really hard to make sure evryone understandes. he teaches not too fast and not too slow. he is a great teacher, and going to his class will deffinately lift your mood.
Likes to yell at people who ask questions. He doesn't really teach, so don't bother to come to class because his test comes directly from his lecture notes. Tests are fairly easy but he doesn't give partial credit so you better be pretty damn meticulous or you are screwed. I wouldn't take him again.
I would recomend him to take cs40 with him. he gives hand outs and you only need to study those for the tests. everything is pretty well explained on those sheets . just study those and you will get an easy A. but i donno about other classes.
There is only two test. One midterm and one final. He will not correct homework, that's bad because when you do not do anything, how do you want pass the class and you should study everything by yourself. Easy "F"
EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS MAN IS DISGUSTING. First, he is the worst teacher EVER. He doesn't know Calculus that well and makes you feel bad for asking Q's. His lectures don't make sense, don't even go to class. He doesn't give partial credit on tests. I wanted to actually learn, but he's not easy to approach. HE NEEDS TO BE FIRED IMMEDIATELY.
Great teacher!
Please do NOT take any math class with this jerk. He is aweful. You will fail in his class, because there is not any way to pass his class.
Not interested in teaching.
This professor is rude and unwilling to help students. If you ask a question during lecture that he feels is stupid he will put you on the spot and make you feel awfull. He is not approchable, understanding nor willing to teach. If you take him you will not learn anything and the chances of getting higher than a C are very low.
It's strange that he encourages people to ask questions, then proceeds to shoot them down once they do. He may not be helpful, but he has a very VERY generous grading scale. Passing is ridiculously easy, even if you know nothing about the subject (like myself).
this class was crazy easy. he's probably the worst teacher ever but his tests are cake. i went class for only the first day and then the two tests. i learned how to use my ti-89 punched in the equation and boom i was out of there in like 10 minutes and still got an A in the class.
He is not as bad as others say. If you ask a question he will try to help but he can be rude to some people. The test are half multi chose and half fill in blank you don’t have to show any work but there is no partial credit. The tests are pretty easy but you do have to know something. You can use graphing calc but it will not work on all problems
This professor is aweful. It is really easy to fail in his class.
THIS PROFESSOR IS AWEFUL DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. HE IS NOT HELPFUL AND HE IS EXTREMELY RUDE. HE ALWAYS COMPLAINS ABOUT POOR PUBLIC EDUCATION BUT HE IS THE ONE WHO MAKE QUALITY OF IVC LOWER THAN NATIONAL AVG. ABSOLUTELY LOSER. HE MAKES SO MANY MISTAKE AND WANT PERFECT FROM STUDENT. NO PARTIAL CREDIT ON HIS TEST ITS EITHER RIGHT OR GET ZERO POINT.
This is by far one of the worse math professors I have ever had. He will help you if you ask, but frequently people are too confused to even formulate a question. He is disorganized in his course lectures, and frequently states that he hasn't looked at the text book or doesn't have to. Go to another college to take this course!
NOT recommended. I don't understand why IVC keeps rehiring him. He went on with his lecture while most of us were confused. Maybe he's changed. I took his class a few years back and recently retook it with Mr. Cheng. I highly recommend Mr. Cheng. Take the best teacher if you can or you might have to teach yourself or retake the class like me.
I say take this class. He has an old school type of teaching where he's not your best friend, and he's not gonna blow smoke up your ass. he gives you last semesters test before your tests, an 80% is an A, and your final replaces your lowest grade. He's a good man that loves statistics, and its rather easy to get an A, and very easy to get a B.
Reading all of the ratings has prompted me to write an appropriate rating for his calculus sections. He might be a goood teacher at stats, good in algebra, whatever - if you are planning on taking calculus, DO NOT take this teacher. students. One midterm, roughly 20 questions given over two days. Final exam on last day of class, close to 20 questions again. No partial credit, EVER. Your final exam grade IS your final grade for the course. Dont fool yourself thinking you can study hard for the final and ace the class. I must retake this class bc I haven't learned ANYTHING.
Your grade is based on two exams; the midterm and final. The M/T consists of 20 questions, taken over 2 days, & all questions are almost exactly like the examples in the book. The final has 14 questions - 10 questions are from the midterm (worded extacly but only the numbers change). There is no h/w to help you with your grade. 80% is A
SO study hard for the midterm! And only study the examples from the book. He tells you what examples will be on the exam (more or less). He lets you have one paper of notes (front and back). I typed my notes and typed the problems I had trouble with. A couple questions were exactly like the book.
Since more than half of the final exam consists of the midterm questions, KNOW THE MIDTERM PROBLEMS for the final. Type them out so you have them. He keeps the problems worded exactly the same, only the numbers change. That will at least ensure you get 50%. So all you have to know is 3 problems from the new material & you will atleast get a C.
half an hour classes!!!!!!
This professor is pure unadulterated laziness. Class time is half what it's supposed to be. Seems like he trys to make you feel dumb so you won't ask anymore questions. No partial credit so all he has to do is check off your wrong answers on the test and can grade it in 15 seconds. If I wasn't so good at math I'da gotten a C or D.
I took him for Intro to Stats. He's a sweet teacher...very smart! His textbook is an easy read, and his grading policy is AWESOME! Take him! I got an 'A'!
His grading system makes this class an easy one to get a good grade in. The subject was very difficult for me to understand, but i still got a B.
A waste of Time!!!His wirting incomprehebsible Dont bother asking questions he will answer with attitude making you look dumb. Very disrepectful to class: late, answer cell phone while he's in the middle of lecture, step outside to answer phone for 5-10 mins. WASTE OF TIME!!!--->take monte or cheng instead.
Very old professor. He is not clear at all! He just rambles on and expects everyone to already know everything!
OMG, I am currently taking this PRECAL class fall08. Its true class dismissed by 8pm. Unclear on material , students always have to correct him when he is reviewing examples. 20 questions on midterm over two days, only good thing is a 41% is a C what sucks is no partial credit. Be your own teacher think this is the only way to pass this class!!!
I am normally an A student but have a very hard time with Math. I?m a business major and must get through this math stuff. With his grading scale you?d have to be an idiot not to pass. I got a B and am taking him again for MATH 11. One thing for sure you will pass. I liked his teaching techniques and leaned a lot but some don?t. 40%=C, 60%=B, 80%=A
What a character. I took him for pre-cal and then for business calculus. I?m a 35 year professional that has a really hard time with math. If you have a hard time with math and need to pass take him. I got two ?B?s? and these were the 2 B?s of 3 I?ve ever gotten. Love?m..Take?m!
I don't understand why his rate is this low/ I took math11 last spring and I got an A. If you study 4~5days before the exam you'll get an A. He tried to make his exam easier. If u didn't study, don't complain!! easiest class ever
Best math professor ever !!!!math 11 was much easier than math 8 ~ I love him~~~~~
What I find interesting is that people who write negative comments about teachers generally are the same ones that do not even try in the class. That being said, Dr. Dachslager is an extremely knowledgeable and fair professor. WORK hard in his class and it will be impossible to get lower than a B. Don't, and reap what you sow-remember we're adults.
I just cant belive that so many people are complaining about Prof. Howard. He does have some bad habits(answering phone in class, etc), but overall he is great teacher. Hes got pretty huge knowledge about math and cs. U are taking his class for two reasons. One is that hes grade policy is awesome, second one, he doesnt take a roll.
SUCH A KIND GUY. HE IS ALWAYS THERE TO HELP YOU! A COMPUTER WHIZ, AND GREAT MATH INSTRUCTOR. TAKE ANY OF HIS CLASSES AND YOU WILL DO WELL. GREAT PROFESSOR! WISH EVERY PROFESSOR AT IVC WAS LIKE HIM. HE IS VERY FUNNY AND MAKES PEOPLE LAUGH!
I went to class 6 times and got an A. He is THE WORST teacher I've ever had. I literally know nothing about calculus after taking this class. His method of teaching is: 1) scribble on the board while mumbling. 2) turn around and take questions. 3) erase and repeat. Huge cheat sheet on midterm&final (each 50%), huge curve. I basically taught myself.
Dachslager is an ineffectual "teacher" that dilutes exams and grading policies to hide his ineffectualness. His class structure is favorable for self-taught students and opportunists with the answers programmed in their calculators. For students desiring to learn from a teacher, do not take his class. You won't even know grades by the drop date.
Do the homework and show up to the math lab for help on your homework. Lecture is essentially useless. You're better off spending the time doing problems from the book. Very lenient grading scale. 60% is a B lmao. Everyone who scored him low expected dachslager to hold their hands.
Howard is awesome, very caring, willing to teach until you get it right.
Professor Dachslager is smart, but a lousy professor. He has a good understanding of advanced mathematics but does not put much effort into teaching his classes. He takes all of his exam questions out of the book and seem irritated if you ask questions. His grading scale is lenient and you will get more out of the book then lecture.
Very unreadable handwriting, so its hard to take notes off the whiteboard. his lectures are a waste of time because its soo boring and hard to understand. Only take his class if you are okay with relying on the textbook and study groups for everything. I got a D, although his grading scale is leniniet. 80% is an A
kindest hearted professor i have ever met!
this class is a joke. the easiest class I have ever taken. taught myself everything. 80% A and two pages of cheat sheet for the final. Dont even attend class. just show up for the test.
his teaching methods are very unorthodox. he uses the book entirely, his tests come straight from the textbook. however, he uses a different textbook than what is really required so he is constantly confusing his students i took him for two classes, and i disliked both his classes.
Honestly one of the most helpful, caring, and kind-hearted math professors ever. I hated and dreaded math prior to his class but after taking him I had a different approach on mathematics. Even if you really hate math just show him you are really trying and doing your best and he will stay into help you out. He truly is a good person.
Extremely confusing & doesn't understand what you ask & ends up explaining nothing to you. Very hard to read hand writing & he doesn't erase well so the problems run together. You get notes on all your tests, 200pts in the class: 100 on midterm, 100 on final. 1/2 the ?'s repeat on the final. Doesn't notice if you are absent. Avoid if you can.
This teacher does not care about you nor the class, he will make you look stupid if you ask questions, basically hes an absolute joke and his class is bull, you will learn nothing. he needs to be fired but hes been teaching so long and has a phd from berkely.
avoid at all costs. completely useless teacher who can't teach. going to class is a waste of your time and your best bet is to study on your own. i wish you all the luck if you take him for calculus.
Really nice guy, has a hard time explaining things clearly. He doesn't care about attendance. He will be very patient with you if you don't understand but if he feels you are asking stupid questions he will call you out on it. Also he has a very low curve, if you get a 40% in his class, it counts as a C. Don't take his calc class if you plan on moving up in the math department.
easy math teacher. dont take his class if you need to take calc, trust me you will do horrible. he doesnt teach, he reads straight from the book, you cant read his writting, and he lets you out 30 into class oh and hes never on time. he gives a midterm and a final, you can use notes but the answers are either right or wrong, no partial credit
If you are a good student and know how to make study guides, take this class. No attendance, no homework and 3 tests TOTAL. Also, 80% is an A, 60% is a B, and 40% is a C. As long as you go to his review session a week before the test, you will get an A. He lets you use a sheet of notes on every test and gives you the last year's test to study from.
Easy class if you know math already. He gives 3 tests and 80% is an A. 3 hour lectures are about 30 minutes long every week.
he has phd from UCB. avoid at ALL COST. A is 80%. 1 midterm & 1 final. one problem is worth 7-8 points. no partial credit. one cheat sheet front/back. class is 40-45 min. no hw. blocks the board, can't see/read his notes. uses different textboook edition. not in his office during his office hours.
Avoid. One of the worst professors I've ever had. Maybe on the easier side, but he does not seem to care for the class.4 hours of lecture reduced to one hour. Seems annoyed to answer questions during class. Can be perceived as abrasive towards students.
Smart professor. Understands that putting kids into high pressure exam situations and failing 40% of his class is not how you teach mathematics. Students mistake him as being "abrasive" towards those that ask questions, but he wants to challenge them to think for themselves. Read the book and take advantage of his wealth of knowledge and experience
He's awful. He'll make a joke out of any question you ask, & he typically won't answer it. He'll make you feel stupid. He tries to be funny, but he's not. He's not helpful. He slurs his speech sometimes so his words run together. He lets you use notes on all tests so it's not SO bad as long as you can teach yourself or make good study guides.
I'm glad I took him for stats bc of his grading scale, & bc he lets you bring in notes for the tests. I almost never attended class (attendance does not matter), & I ended up with a B (only because I got tutored). To end up w/an A or B in the class, you're going to have to teach yourself the math or get a tutor.
I know a lot of people think he is rude and harsh but he really wants his students to learn something. Math is a hard subject for me but I'm glad I took stats with him. I learned a lot and passed his class. He will answer any questions you have and is really nice if you have any questions after class.
He is the worst professor you will ever have in your educational career. Not only does he not want to answer any questions via email, he is also the most incompetent professor at ivc. He does not care for his students he wants all of us to FAIL He does not answer questions because he himself doesn't know. He should be fired WORST TEACHER EVER
The only material that was used was a textbook that he wrote. Some of the examples did not have the answers shown, so I couldn't check if I did it correctly. The grade is dependent on 1 midterm and 1 final. Some of the exam questions are like the examples in the textbook.
This is a class that really shouldn't be taught online, particularly when the material is just a "textbook" he wrote, it doesn't feel like you have a way to actually learn the material. Takes at least 3 emails for him to respond, and when he does it's as short as possible and sometimes rude. Should offer an in-class version of this with a new prof
Really funny guy. He's quite old-school, and is very upfront that not everyone is cut out for the subject. If you use your brain and put the effort in, he'll respect you and it won't be hard to learn the material and get a good grade. His lectures are very short, but frankly, I don't think it would be good to try to cram is more information.
For an online class, this was not an easy class. I dreaded this class. There were extra credit projects, but I didn't even get points for that. The notes and the study guide, go together but finding the answers were close to impossible. I did email him for explanations but it took forever to get response. Do well on the midterm and final. :( GL
I am a 4.0 student (CS Major at Ucsd) and this professor is the worst I've ever had. He is NO help. Refuses to meet in person (probably scared, because he knows he shouldn't even be teaching this class). Learned nothing. I will still get a good grade, but most frustrating year with this prof I've ever had. Gives no explanation in emails to help.
DON'T take this class. His Midterms and Finals are awful- sometimes he grades them wrong and also puts things on them which aren't even in the book. The book that he gives doesn't explain /anything/.
Hey people, any good things about taking Computer Assembly Language online with him at all? Why, what's up with all the bad points?
Grade is 50% midterm and 50% Final. He emails you a word document and you fill it out and send it back by the due date. 90% fill in the blank (filling out tables/solving computer based math problems) and 10% multiple choice/definitions. Definitely NOT easy(can't google everythin). The course is basically the textbook/study guides and 80% is an A.
It doesn't require a solid base of CS or math. Read textbook, you will learn Assembly language and get A. 2 exams are basically exercises of each chapter with different variables. You will never get good grade if you did not study, but once you try to learn every question will be easy for you. Mr. Dachslager is cool and cold outside but warm inside.
Don't take this class. He makes you pay a hefty price to buy the textbook which he wrote. Then, when you look in the book, you can't find answers for some SECTIONS, not even problems and the book sucks. He sends study guides with no answers each week. He asks questions not in the book on the exams and takes forever if at all to respond to emails.
I took his CS40 A and B and it sucks. Terrible. The book he wrote is so confusing and is not a help when it comes to learning the materials for the tests. It is only offered online which makes it horrible. I wish CS40 A and B was thought in class during 1 semester. Then it would have been an easy class and less confusing. Dont recommend his class
This class was very easy. Felt more like an intro to programming class using Java syntax. A little disappointing but definitely a GPA booster. An 80% is an A. Also there's tons of extra credit (can earn up to 10% e.c.), so if you do all the e.c. you can get an A with a 70%.
This was an online course. I cannot believe I received college credit for this. The bulk of the class involves math we learned in 5th grade (converting from different bases), or writing pseudocode (which is the FOUNDATION for C, Java, Python, etc). So, if you have basic math or coding skills, it is EASY. The grade is a midterm and a final.
This class is super easy if you've taken any other CS class. You don't really get into assembly until the end of the semester, and even then it's very simple and not hard to understand. Class is graded by the midterm and the final, which both are pretty easy. The book for the class is kind of helpful, however sometimes it can be a little convoluted
Dachslager is easily the WORST teacher at IVC. Textbook he wrote is incomplete, no examples, does NOT respond to emails, does not list grades so you have no idea where you stand as far as grades. He post final grades three weeks after finals. Do yourself a favor and take Assembly Language elsewhere, this guy will ruin your GPA. Had a 4.0 before.
I Never feel so lost taking the online class. The pandemic does not do it any favor. overall, the class has Minimal help, minimal instruction, no Lecture even prerecorded videos. all you do is read the book. If book is all we need, why on earth do I have to pay for tuition?
This guy doesn't teach, he's just using online classes as an excuse to be lazy and sell his book. The book itself is poorly written and confusing at times. He doesn't respond to questions and didn't give midterms back - just grades - so it's impossible to know what you got right and what you didn't. Avoid at all costs!
Class conducted entirely over email. No lectures, no canvas, no communication (only sends an email every 3 weeks). Graded by only the midterm and final with no partial credit. You have to pay for the expensive book (THAT HE WROTE) and teach yourself for 5 months. That's it. That's the class. Shame on IVC for not auditing this scam of a class.
This professor is an example as to why IVC is a joke. The fact that he is still employed despite the amount of complaints from students is astonishing. This class is a scam. Dachslager should be ashamed.
Want a class where the only feedback you get is a final grade? Two assessments in the form of a midterm and final split evenly make up the entire grade for this class. You will never see how you did on either. It's wild that IVC has allowed this to persist. Really raises questions about the department, and the credibility of the college. Very bad.
The CS40 series at IVC has been neglected by Howard Dachslager for long enough. Students come out of 40AB with no foundation of assembly language. Anyone transferring out to a university will feel the burn once they have to take a subsequent course. The class is a joke. Assembly language is one of the more difficult CS intro classes anywhere else.
we have to get his textbook he wrote and have to study like one chapter every weekish then midterm and final. There many mistakes in his book its really hard to know weather your doing problems right or wrong. He doesn't even have office hour like other teachers and he dont respond to email, or he just say read book. I just pray I pass now
Worst professor at IVC. Class entirely over email. Canvas page only contains syllabus. Weekly emails reminding you of what chapter to read and study guides. Textbook written by the prof. but very confusing at times. Graded on midterm and final (worth 100 each) and optional projects worth 10 points. Does not reply to emails. The class is a joke
What even is this class
Do yourself a favor and go to OCC or Saddleback. This guy doesn't deserve the title of professor and IVC CS department is an absolute joke. Is this really the bar? Wonder what happens if someone from a CSU or UC that requires this class to transfer got to watch this class go unfold. No chance this class would stay on that agreement.
If you want an A, take him. Not kidding. I had him on 3 courses and I will say that they were the easiest A I have ever received in my life. Easy GE classes can't compare. 2 very easy tests. thats it. I wished he would be around for longer... I will say that you are going to find his class either hard or easy, no in betweens.
The entire class is graded by a midterm and a final which you have over a week to take before turning in. As a result, his class is an easy A. However, it's all a scam to buy his error filled textbook. The textbook is the only class material. If you email him any questions, he will give a brief response or straight up ignore you.
This guy has to be the worst teacher of all time, been milking this gig too long - time to go. IVC should be ashamed of their standards. An absolute con man, puts 0 effort into the course. It's an absolute travesty that this guy has been getting paid to do this for years. IVC needs to get it together and restore integrity to these courses. Terrible
Someone incorrectly stated there is a canvas page for CS40B. Everything including the syllabus is emailed to you. An awful textbook riddled with mistakes is all you have for CS40A/B. Two things are graded for both courses. Midterm and final are your whole grad and you don't even see what you get on the midterm. How does Dachslager still have a job?
There is something to be said about previous students who took Dachslager for CS. They enjoyed a class where you learn to do literally no coding and get a free A for next to 0 effort. It's disappointing that nobody blew the whistle on this scammer. You've had a good run Dachslager, time to give up the job to someone who actually puts in some effort
It's a shame you can't rate him a 0, because that's how much teaching you'll get from him: 0 Things that can teach you to code better than Dachslager and his joke of a class: An actual textbook, youtube videos, Leetcode, your mom, a neighbor's dog, your infant cousin, the paint on a curb, your IVC parking sticker, a Lego brick, and a used tissue
the class that i put the least effort in at ivc. even monkeys can take this course and pass. try to take assembly at other ccs.
Lol what
