Dont take
So boring and lectures have nothing to do with the text and the material he tests you on. Rambles on about nonsense and he has major mood swings.
i agree with the last comment. very cocky. its pointless to go to lectures b/c you dont learn anything. you basicly teach yourself.
BORING. Takes roll after break too, which sucks. Nothing he talks about in class is on the exam, but he gives you sample exam questions in advance so if you study those you do fine.
DONT TAKE HIM
VERY BORING!!!! TAKE SOMEONE ELSE!!! HIS LECTURES ARE POINTLESS!!!
This guy is totally useless. The class is boring and unrelated to the objective of Management of IS. If you have an option, take somebody else.
Very arrogant! Large Napoleonic complex. Complete waste of time. I am embarrassed that he represents our university. Publicly embarrasses people. Very unprofessional! Do not take him!
Absolutely horrible. Encourages discussn, but stops them harshly if he has nothing to ad. Rude. Takes roll for 1st 45 min of class, then spends next 30+min reading homework with errors in it. Thinks anyone work'g 9-5 job is stupid? Jackass, but tenure
Havn't learned one thing in lecture. Study the book and quizes. Class is useless.
I have been reading the book and nothing he talks about relates to the text. He talks above the knowledge of the students and is rude. Take someone else!!!
Ignore all of the previous ratings, in 4 years of college I've never had an easier class. The only grades are two tests and attendance. Exams are copies of quizes he posts on blackboard, and all of the questions and answers are given. He writes CPA exam questions and is a good job reference.
He's class is pointless, he spends his time talking about stuff that does not relate to the class, and its pointless, its a waste of money
Class was pretty much useless, but it is required, so if your going to take anyone, mine as well take Kanter. Grade is based on Midterm and final, there are NO ASSIGNMENTS. Tests were pretty easy.
has no idea what she is talking about
Great teacher willing to help, very funny, he has a lot of bad reviews but he is a really nice teacher he is boring, but he keeps you awake
great teacher & he knows his stuff!
1 final 1 midterm with open note. Arrogant guy.
He really is full of himself, classes are super boring and he takes attendance. He loves talking about himself and doesn't really teach anything. His tests and quizes are really easy, most of the q's come from the study guides on blackboard. If you're not interested in MIS and want an A take him.
Boring as heck and talk about his past like we care who he's meet or worked for. But on the other hand very easy class. quizes from blackboard and final from his practice test. don't get caught doing other homework but if you want an easy A take him.
He is very boring and full of himself. Class is useless and he doesn't cover the info for the tests. I would suggest just studying the book and practice exams yourself. The exams are pretty much straight from the practice tests, so that makes it easy.
The syllabus was 20 pages and 1/2 of it was his biography! I know two things that I did not know prior to the class: If you have tenure, you can be as bad as you want with no retribution and this guy loves to talk about all the people he has filed lawsuits against! It you want to learn, it won't happen. But he is a fairly easy grader.
He is VERY BAD - very disrespectful of students' time and money
Professor Kanter has been the easiest professor I have ever taken. His final grade consisted of an open midterm and final. Very Easy.
Mid term is easy but group project is hard. (a boring class)
He is a horrible professor. You will not be able to learn anything in his class. But if you look over the practice tests, you will get an A in every test. The group project is also pretty easy.
This is a very easy class but borings as ¤)="#(¤)="() if you want an A take him

Do not take him!!!! He is by far the worst prof I have ever had at depaul. He doesn't teach anything and is VERY rude to students.
You don't do anything in class except listen to him talk about his accomplishments. His bio and life story is longer than the actual syllabus, like 20 pages. Throws random info at you class after class. Attendance is manditory which blows. After every class you want to stab yourself in the eye! I suggest 2 get a drink or 2 in u b4 class.
I was one of the lucky ones. He gave our class an open mid-term and final. The project is pretty easy. He really is an easy A. Although, I would rather stick needles in my eyes, than go to class. If you want to get an A on his tests you MUST read the book.
Here's his deal... if you have a problem don't bring it up in front of class. If he likes you an A is not hard to get. If he doesn't like you it's near impossible. Don't try to make him look dumb.
Save yourself and dont take this guy, he sucks at life and will make the class unbearable. It took him 3 weeks to get my grade changed after he lost my exam and tried to fail me.
wow. what a trial. this is a course/instructor combination to be avoided. no silver linings. learned a couple good things, but not the money's worth.
Prof. Kanter is full of himself, gets easily distracted from course material, and is too often condescending and rude to students. He covered only about 60% of the course material, but found time to discuss his personal life and show a useless video clip of an 80s movie on corporate fraud. The exams were straight out of the practice exams. Too bad.
This guy really is the most arrogant instructor I had ever seen in Chicago. His great achievements, his family and other irrelevant material always took 80% of the lecture. U can get an easy A if U can be his pet and say nothing in class. He got pissed off easily if he thought U say something wrong then U are gone.
Hate to keep piling on, but the reviews on this guy are dead on. What an arrogant man. Hasn't given a straight answer to a question all quarter. Had the nerve to tell a student he didn't have time for his question, then rambled for an hour about how to format assignments. This class is a test in endurance with no academic reward.
This class is not hard - quiz questions are posted online and the exams are right out of the same bank. Prof. Kanter is arrogant but if you want an easy A and just need to know the basics, take him. Just get on his good side and let him amuse you - it's the only way to get through it.
Take the practice quizzes! They will help alot. Make friends and make a study group for the class. You'll need it.

Actually MIS!! This class is easy. The tests are definitions from the book and as long as the timing on your project slides is right you'll do fine. The problem is that this guy is a pompous jerk. His list of accomplishments is longer then the syllbus!
Dr. Kanter is a horrible lecturer. Class covered CH 1-9 but he skipped CH 5 and CH 8 (still on exams). The best way to get an A is read the chapters thoroughly and complete the HW before class. Exams were take home. DON'T take him if you want to learn accounting. Lecture is required but useless. Better off reading the book. Review his old exams.
i actually had a great time in this class. Quizes are fine if you read the book and the midterm and final are deried from them. The group project was hard because he did not install accountability for each member. Overall his business knowledge was first rate and he respects those who make a real contribution to the class.
Awful, awful, awful. Gives quizzes at the beginning of each class and then gives lecture on topic covered by the quiz. Interacts with students mainly to try and belittle as many of them as possible resulting in very uncomfortable lectures.
Actually I think he is the most knowledgeable among the professors who teach this course, and when you talk to him after class, he is a nice guy!
Do not for any reason waste your $3000 on this class with this teacher. He rambled off topic, and you will not learn anything. I actually had high hopes of learning about the subject, but he shattered my hopes.
Worst professor I've had in either undergrad or grad school. Likes to talk about his guns, making business deals while on the toilet and his divorce. Waste of tenure. Do not take this guy if you can help it.
ok honestly, took this guy over the summer....im an average A-B student. ok this guy i dunno what his deal was, however in our class he was goin through a divorice case so he spent most of the time talkin about that. he wasted time, rambled, condescending, and i dunno i wouldnt wish it on a snake...but i still got an A-
Arguably the worst professor I have ever encountered at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Approximately two-thirds of the entire course is wasted on student presentations that have no relevance to the subject matter, and dopey quizzes. This course is an easy A if you simply attend class; however, do not expect to learn much of anything.
I thought this was a good class. I didn't learn much, but liked the presentation skills refersh. Easy A
Total waste. Don't take this class. There is nothing to learn. He doesn't even grade the quizzes. No help, no communication. worst professor ever I had.
Really hated the professor. Attendance is mandatory even though the class is a snooze fest. Don't bother taking notes in class, the midterm and final are based off of the textbook. Exams are pretty much focused on memorizing definitions and structures of a business. Easy papers and a group project and some extra credit.
The worst professor at DePaul I had so far. I'm a straight A student, and I go to class to learn. Didn't learn a thing in this class. We spent maybe 10% of the class time actually going over stuff that is related to the subject. Everything else was crap that he wanted to talk to and brag about. Full of himself, nearly impossible to understand what
WORST PROFESSOR EVER! Attendnance is mandatory, he argues with you when you ask him a question, he never talks about the book... yet tests on it. He has you write papers that he does not read. Bring your computer to class, that way you will have something to do. Also during someones presentation he left in the middle of it.
This guy is crazy, literally. He goes off on absurd, but pretty hilarious, tangents constantly, teaches very little material, but the class is easy. He grades very easy, and the grading is just a midterm and final and 2 papers written about whatever you want. Attendance is mandatory, and he calls people out constantly on sleeping, phones, etc . .
Everyone talks bad about Kanter but he is really very funny. He has a certain "old man humor" which is very enjoyable. He goes off on tangets sometimes, but they are usually connected to what we are learning. Make sure he knows you and you will do fine. All of the quizzes are straight from the book. As long as you read, you will pass. Easy.
I am not the type that usually follows Ratemyprofessor.com but I wish I had because all of his poor reviews are accurate. Kanter only talks about his iPhone and taught me nothing about Management Information Systems. Drop his class now, he is not worth wasting your time on. If you want to get something out of this course take another professor.
I thought he was going to be horrible from all of the reviews on here, but he wasn't that bad. He actually dropped a paper because we asked him to do it and all of his tests are open note. I got a B+ in the class even though I failed 3 out of 7 quizzes. The class is actually entertaining I would take him again.
This man is smart, humorous and his off-tangent stories are actually good to listen to. I don't why he's rated bad here, maybe because he makes students do work.... or maybe because he isn't a teacher who'll read the text book for you. I like commomn-sense professors.
Has a lot of connections. If you are a student going into business, he is an endless source of information.
This professor is the worst I have ever had. Constantly sending random emails, unorganized and always off topic. Easy for the most part, but you will learn nothing (isn't that why we pay for the "DePaul education"?)
He was a sweet guy. Just do whatever he asks, and it's always good to talk to him before class when he's eating his muffin because if he likes you, you will probably get a better grade. A little off topic, but a generally easy prof.
Kanter is awesome. i dont know what these people are talking about. I failed like 2 of his quizzes and got a C on the midterm and still got an A in the class. He has practice quizzes on bb which are exactly like the quizzes in class! Memorize them and you will pass! He lets you use all slides on final and midterm. Recommended!
Horrible professor. His assignments don't make sense, and if you ask for clarification he'll look at you like you're dumb for even asking. He belittles students to make himself look better. I tried giving him a chance, but he's just a grumpy man.
horrible. terrible. projects make no sense, and his assignments are completely pointless. There are practice quizzes that provide you with the answers to the weekly quizzes, and the exams are open note. You don't learn a thing, and his class is nearly impossible to sit through. I honestly don't care about his iPhone. Or his calculator watch
yes, it's an easy grade with this professor, but we haven't done a single thing where he didn't mess something up! you have to constantly watch your grade and double check his work to make sure he won't lower your grade. the A is almost not worth the frustration!
Dry stuff, but at least he tries to tell funny stories to help. Weekly quizzes which are basically questions taken from his practice quizzes. Midterm and final are open note. Research and excel assignment didn't teach me anything. Though he is very understanding, esp if you have discrepencies about quiz/test questions. Talk to him.
Class sucks he does not know how to teach and he tries to be cool and use his Ipad which he doesnt even know how to use. Take this class if you want to hear stupid jokes that arent even funny. Its an easy class but i would recommend another teacher.
Kind of a boring class but really easy. All you do is read the chapters and then take quizzes. Study your quizzes for the mid/final because they are pretty much identical. Highly recommended if you need to boost your GPA.
TERRIBLE! Probably the worst I've had at Depaul. Still have no idea what the class is about or when it'll be useful. He's completely changed his curriculm bc mid and final are NOT open note. There are no practice quizzes and will say the opposite of what the book says. Project is a legit joke. Complete waste or my time and money.
He must have gotten in trouble for making this class too easy before, because there are no more open note exams. The quizzes are not helpful, and he uses the slides the book creates. I could honestly tell you I do not remember one thing from his class except how frustrating it was.
Professor Kanter midterm are straight memorization of power points, the book and real life application. Only one project from book, kinda unclear on the answer. Really nice guy otherwise,he's funny in a grandpa sense but still funny.
Really nice guy, interesting sense of humor. Very boring and dry class. All about powerpoints and quizzes!
the hardest part about this class is motivating yourself to go. he emails you the powerpoints for some reason instead of putting them on D2L all in 1 place. it is incredibly frustrating to sit in class because I am "taught" in an hour and a half what I could teach myself in 10 minutes due to his random stories, and extremely long pauses. this guy
Professor Kanter is a very sweet little old man BUT he's an awful teacher. over half the class is spent with him just chatting and ranting about how awesome his iphone and dropbox are. Basically talks straight from the powerpoint if he gets to talking about it at all. Worst is, his quizzes get somewhat difficult and downright hard by the end
Dr.Kanter is somehow a nice teacher, very funny. However his teachings are not good. In this class, I absolutely learn nothing. I did well in quiz though. His assignment for this last quarter wasn't really explained, I bet most students don't even know what to do. While asking about that, he redirected me towards a MIS tutor :( !
ok I can see how many students complain because it's a boring class. But what did you expect? yes the class is dull at times, but in terms of teaching he is clear about what you should know on the quiz/exams. The information he teaches are basic yet important. After all, it's all about getting good grades. He also has stopped emailing ppts
This teacher is fairly decent my only issue with him was that he didn't remind us about things like quizzes for the first part of the semester, but he got better about it after the midterm. he is interested in the newer technology that comes out and spends a lot of class time discussing it. fair warning he teaches directly from the textbook
Dr. Kanter's course is as boring as it gets. This is to be expected because it is management information systems I guess. The quizzes are straight from the book. There's a confusing Excel project, but it's only worth 10% of the overall grade. Easy class if you want to suffer through it to get the grade.
He doesn't make new quizzes, Everyone had been given answer keys by their friends who had him before. Midterm and Final are identical questions from the quizzes. The final project is easy but he doesn't give much direction. He rambles a lot. If you sleep, throw something away, or get up he will yell at you. Easy but boring. Don't buy the book.
Kanter is intimidating outwardly, but if you sit toward the front and (at the very least) maintain consciousness through his painful lecture pace, he is a very smart, well-connected guy with a lot of experience and knowledge that he loves to share. I'd take the course again, but I'd be bored to tears doing it.
Quizzes are verbatim textbook definitions. Lectures are painfully long and awkward if no one participates. Has incredibly odd ticks that will summon his old man scowl. Not worth the headache in terms of constant emailing between him and GA to fix your incorrect D2L grades, but if you're the type who wants A with minimal academic effort, this is it.
If you want one of the easiest A to fulfill a requirement and NOT to learn much, this is the class. You may have to fight for your grade a little at the end of the quarter because he will most likely mess up with the inputting of the grades. He may be knowledgeable, but his lectures are painful, and attendance is a must.
Although he may be disconnected from reality, he has a great sense of humor. This is by far one of the easiest professors you will ever experience. Class is easy and the tests are even easier. Not much is taught in this class, but this is a great GPA booster.
Class enivronment is really conufusing. The information isn't that hard to get but expectations are really vague. Class should be an easy A if you show up, listen and review the information, Make sure he knows you and participating in classs can help.
Kanter is one of the best professor at DePaul especially if you want to boost your GPA.I
The most ridiculous class. Not worth tuition whatsoever. All he does is waste time by telling stories about his personal property. Take someone else if you want to learn something valuable. Does not teach Excel, which you will need for other classes. Test and quizzes are all taken from the Quizlet. Makes fun of people, not nice. Worst experience.
By far the worst professor I've ever had at DePaul. Extremely long and dull lectures. Weekly quizzes are straight from his powerpoints which he puts online. Won't remember conversations so be sure to have anything important in writing for him to see. Will talk endlessly about nonrelated examples for eternity.
Very nice and funny professor. Quizzes straight from PowerPoint. Not as challenging as other courses, but actually really funny because of his stories. Take him if you want a simple MIS class.
This professor barely teaches any material within the course, whether they be in the book or in the powerpoint. He does not allow you to use a laptop, cellphone, tablet, or any technology.. IN A TECHNOLOGY BASED COURSE. He also is teaching a class based on technology, and we were meant to learn how to use excel but we didn't.
a professor that has favoritism. if you don't speak "American" he doesn't like you. unclear syllabus. very unprofessional towards students. relates everything to the business world where he thinks he's always right. can be racist at times. Be safe and choose wisely, go with another professor.
CLASS IS AN EASY A BUT THE PROFESSOR IS A SH*TTY PERSON. Honestly, this man is way too old to teach anymore. He does not follow syllabus at all. He goes off topic easily. He's extremely biased, not open to different cultures or races. He will only talk about his model daughter and his corvette during class. 10/10 Definitely would NOT recommend.
I dreaded every single minute of this class. I absolutely learned nothing. He made the classroom very unwelcoming and uncomfortable. He would call out people to embarrass them for talking or arriving late. This professor doesn't care at all if you learn or not and he judges. Had no clue what to study for the exams but they were common sense.
If you want to learn something, do not take this professor. He makes students very uncomfortable. Does not make the classroom a safe place to ask questions or give an opinion. Quite rude, and very unclear. However, easy A but not worth it. There are Excel assignments however he does not explain how to do them.
Kanter is Awesome. Prepares you for the real business world, show up on time to class, sit in front, and participate. Make sure he knows you have a voice. He can come off as rude or an ass but he's real no BS kinda guy. Great stories. Easy A, but I stress SHOW UP ON TIME TO CLASS/ PARTICIPATE FREQUENTLY ( no stupid questions/comments)
Easy exams but he's a terrible professor. None of his stories prepare us for the real world and he is extremely egocentric. He is incredibly suspicious about people who bring laptops and will call out people who aren't giving him their undivided attention. MIS140 is easy but if you want to learn and enjoy the class, take another professor.
Kanter was a great professor who made class fun and interesting. He demanded respect from his students by making sure they paid attention in class and always engaged the class with light conversation. However, he rubbed many students the wrong way because he was unapologetic. No talking was allowed and he always called out people in class.
Absolutely great professor gives amazing feedback and helps us learn every detail for the quizzes nearly impossible to fail his class, sometimes goes off topic but its always class related. Ps. The man is Hilarious definitely recommend taking
Dr. Kanter can be a very funny man, however if you walk in late or take a moment to step outside the room he'll suspect you of something. He just basically lecture from the Power points, as long as you take quality notes you'll do great on the quizzes. Also, be ready in case he calls on you in class and even if you're not sure just take a guess.
Hes funny and interesting. Goes off topic alot. OClass was fun and I learned a few things. However, your tests are largely from the book and his lectures are 100% read off the powerpoint. If you listen or read the text you will do well. If he doesn't like you then class will be unpleasant. Humor him when he randomly conversates with you.
The fine doctor is a different breed from yesteryear he is very entertaining. The quizzes are easy if you pay attention in class and skim the book. The final project is Excel based and the only useful part of the class. Show up on time and participate and he will like you. Don't and he will pick on you. Its how the real world works.
I learned absolutely nothing in this course. With only two weeks remaining, we are just finishing up chapter 4. He seems like he used to be a very smart professor, but he has definitely lost it since then. He mumbles most of class about nothing. The book isnt necessary, and the class is a very easy A. If you care to learn something, don't take him.
I took MIS with Kanter and was very disappointed. I can honestly say that I did not get much useful information out of this class that I hoped I would get. He is very rude at times and I think his age is starting to affect his ability to teach well.
I would not recommend taking Kanter. We learned absolutely nothing in the 5 weeks we had him, and we almost had a midterm without even being told. Awful professor, don't know how he's still working at DePaul.
This is one of the worst Proffessors at depaul. He is very rude and he goes off topic often. You do not need to come to class to pass. 0/10
Do NOT sit in the back of the class, he will pick on you. He hates when you're late. He does not like if you talk back and will embarrass you. He does not teach, but easy A. All assignments on D2L are due the day of final, get started now. PARTICIPATE and you will be on his good side. DONT GIVE ATTITUDE PERIOD CANT STRESS ENOUGH!
This is one of the worst professors DePaul. It is honestly difficult to pay attention in this class because all this guy does is read bullet points off the powerpoint and then talks about unrelated stories/examples that won't be on the test. He then gets mad that nobody answers any questions he asks to the class. I wish I listened to the reviews.
Okay this teacher is really easy, but he is not worth taking. I was bored out of my mind coming to this class and would often show up late so I wouldn't have to hear the prof ramble off on topics that are not related to the class. This guy is tenure. He dosen't need to even try.
The only two things I have learned in this class is that he is 100% on tenure and how to waste three hours of my life a week. He should not be teaching. I honestly can't tell you one thing I've actually learned about MIS in this class. Spare yourself and take someone else. Also, not an easy A.. the midterm was long & tough.
Class is very confusing. He is never clear what the homework is and what we should be doing outside of class
It is completely clear that Howard has never worked in MIS. There is so much material to go over, but since he has little experience with the subject, all he does is reads the definition of the slides and fills up the rest of the time talking about personal stories not related to the class.
Such a boring class with this guy. You don't need to go to class. Just read the powerpoint definitions and show up for the test.
Nice person and seems like he used to be an amazing professor, but he needs to retire. Sometimes he talks very quietly. His stories are interesting, but nothing relates to the lecture. The stuff you are assigned is due by the end of the quarter, but he never explained how to do any of it. He's very funny too.
Unfortunately he had to leave before the quarter ended and was replaced with sub teacher. This new teacher definitely works in MIS. In stark contrast, He knows little about the subject. He is a finance and accounting guy. Was learning nothing from him.
Teacher knew nothing about subject. Tried to tie personal stories to explain the concept, but his knowledge is outdated.
Boring class
What a rude teacher.
This prof teaches like he has never used a computer before.
Really poor class. You don't need to pay any attention at all. The midterm and final were based on quizzes available available on D2L. The whole class is just about memorizing definitions. Also there is some excel projects to do. The teacher dosen't really teach you excel. He just quickly runs through it and expects you to know it.
Spare yourself the trouble and take a different professor. The class time is rarely spent on the material. Hell tell random irrelevant stories for an hour and let you out early. I have never seen such a huge waste of time as this course.
Kanter's class was super unorganized. I was never sure if we had any homework or when the tests would be because he didn't post any information on D2L. This is a guy teaching a technology class and he cannot even upload the basic documents onto D2L and organize them. There was supposed to be a midterm and final study guide, but he didn't upload it,
Horrible. Easy A, but you will not learn anything. I was looking forward to learning about excel, we didn't use it once, in an MIS class! He's rude and slightly racist, he yelled at a girl for not being able to understand her accent. Take another professor, this is a subject you actually should learn about if you're any type of business major.
This teacher simply had no idea what he was talking about. Just finished another class similar to this that was mainly focused on Excel and I learned 1000x more in that course which was only 2 credits... The only thing we were tested on was vocabulary words and no meaningful substance.
