Silly class but his personal boringness is overwhelming
he's an awesome professor, very funny
No Comments
Course material was not difficult but mildly boring.
ONLY get Textbook and Birth of Revolution. Never read ANY of 5 other books.
nice, interesting, funny guy....tests are doable but must study
lectures were entertaining
Great teacher- very interesting- some work, but worth it!
Great professor-extremely funny, will make you work, but it is worth it.
excellent professor, knows his stuff, and teaches it well, and very approachable
Boring class, give study guides for tests...but too much info
Best teacher ever! Fun entertaining and presents materials in a fun way
Best teacher ever, made me change majors to polisci
study the review guides, lectures are soo boring, don't alwayshave to attend
Not bad. Better then some others. Just read the study guides and you should be okay.
funny guy, interesting teacher, tough to get an A, but a B is very manageable.
Really enjoyed his class...lectures are always clear and to the point. He covers all material in lectures-don't even need to read the book. 4 tests and 1 short and easy computer exercise...not a lot of work!
course: WOW lubert: FRIGGIN AWESOME; very funny and helpful and thorough; he really likes people who speak up and are prepared; not much work; tests aren't easy but not too hard either
A lot of books assigned, but didn't have to read any of them. Study guides for the exams are very helpful. There is no reason to not at least get a B in his class
knows EVERYTHING, hard tests but gives lengthy study guides, go to class-takes a lot from notes. nice guy, very helpful!
Class is boring if not interested in the subject...not too many assignments though...3 essays and attendance/participation is entire grade. LOTS of reading though.
Very smart and helpful. Clear in what he's talking about. Nice guy.
Real nice guy! There is alot of reading but you dont have to read it because he goes over everything in class. Pay attention and take good notes and you will do fine. The tests are hard, but he gives study guides for them. Really enjoys teaching this!
difficult class with lots of detail. however, he loves the material and goes over every case with the class. interesting, and he's very intelligent. tests are hard, but study/take notes/attend class and youll be fine
good professor. grade based on 4 tests and computer exercises. final is not cumulative. tests are pretty easy if you study the guide he gives out. Def recommend him.
Good lectures, tests for me were pretty easy, not a bad choice if you want an A or B.
It can be really difficult to know what he expects of you, but he's still a really nice fellow and he wants you to do well. I definitely recommend him as a professor.
Knows his stuff and loves what he teaches. An easy A or B if you read the material and go to class. If you are really lazy though, find another class.
He's a great professor who is really committed to the material he teaches and has real enthusiasm in helping students understand the subject matter. I would recommend him for any class.
He is not an easy teacher and you really have to work in his class to get a good grade. The class is so interesting and he is really knowledgable about law. Definitely recommend him.
This man knows his stuff. Really a great guy. His tests aren't all that easy. There is a lot of reading! He gives out GREAT study guides. Do those and study them you'll get a solid B (if you're lucky a B+) I had straight A's until I took his class. This isn't a slack class, but you'll learn A LOT!
I love this guy! I had him for GPOSC 225, 325, and 330. He def. knows what he's talking about. Stay up to date with the material, and you'll do fine. He's a hard grader but a wonderful professor. TAKE HIM!
Awesome guy...makes government really interesting, much better than any HS course. Lots of reading, but he'll usually go over most of it in lecture. Pay close attention to lectures and do the study guides and you'll do fine.
You don't really have to read, but attendance is mandatory to stay ahead. Required 4 short article summaries and 3 tests. This course is doable, but he grades a little hard. The material is a little rough, but I would take him for something else.
Dr. Lubert knows what he's talking about, but that doesn't make him easy. This was my hardest class. I found his tests to be very difficult. Very important to attend class.
If you want to be a lawyer take this class. He teaches the class as if you were preparing to be law students. There is alot of reading and several complex text to understand. This course is perfect to deside if you will do law or not.
TESTS ARE WAY TOO HARD AND COMPLEX!!! I was a political science major, and now I'm reconsidering.

Kinda easy if you study hard. Alot of reading.
This guy looks like Screetch. Anyway, DO THE STUDYGUIDES A WEEK IN ADVANCE. Always a lot of material on his tests, so spend at least 10 hours of studying if you don't do the readings. Only one quiz, 3 tests, and a final that isn't cumulative. No papers, so you have to do well on your tests! B-
Gotta love the LUBERTARIAN, who in his younger days was once a roadie for the rock-group KISS. He PARTIED with Gene Simmons!
Dr. Lubert is the most worthy professor that i have ever had. I took nature to politics, amer. gov and amer. race relations with him at rutgers. I am now an adjunct at rutgers because of his passion. Thanks.
I really enjoyed his class. I am definitely not into poli sci, but I found it interesting. I hardly ever missed class, took notes and did the study guides and did fine. Never really did any of the reading. I think i ended up with a B? This man knows his stuff.
Great prof for Con Law. Understands Con Law and explains it well.
his lectures are boring and it sucks sitting through them
VERY interesting class, Lubert really brings this subject to life. His makes his lectures really interesting and gives study guides for his tests, which aren't bad if you take good notes. Great class, great prof.

while government is not my favorite subject he is a very good teacher, he speaks clearly with lots of example and won't move on until he has made sure everyone gets it, the class can get boring but you just have to pay attention and take alot of notes. the tests are hard but straight foward from the notes and the readings so start studying early
Very good teacher. He wants to make sure you know the material so he gives lots of great examples. No attendance policies and the only graded assignments are 3 multiple choice tests. Assigns lots of reading but goes over most of it in class. Class can get boring but if you go and take notes, you will do fine on the tests.
Nice Guy, great class, take notes on what he says not just what he writes down. Only 3 test for the entire semester I highly recommend this class and this professor to anyone.
first of all i hate govt. but this guy loves it. he knows so much but the tests are still hard. take notes on what he writes down and esp. what he says. no attedance policy but DONT MISS CLASS. wayyy too many notes to try and get from someone....good luck
If you hate reading with a passion don't take this class... all you do is read! LOL AHHHH gotta take this class over or switch to GHIST 225
He loves what he's doing, so lectures are interesting. Lots of reading of primary source documents, which can be hard to understand. Tests are hard to STUDY HARD and go visit him during office hours and ask questions. He'll look at previous tests and gives suggestions for studying.
Thi guy knows what he is talking about. Really...he is BRILLANT! THat being said he is a little over the top as a teacher. Meaning he speaks on a level that I am not on yet. He grades REALLY hard...and there is a lot of papers. If you want to learn something take him...but be warned you will probably get a C or worst.
He's really good professor, but when it comes to take a test, it's a nightmare!!! He really knows what he's talking about, students like him for his lectures, the way they are delivered, very comprehensibly. The Tests are VERY HARD! If you want a professor who delivers lectures very well, take him, if you want easy tests, don't take him! Good luck!
His lectures are pretty good, he tries to relate the material to his students and their time period. He can be a little arrogant at times, but that's because he is a young professor- most of them are like that. Test aren't bad, he gives really good study guides (i've made A's and B's) they're multiple choice, 3 then the 4th is the final. Take him
Absolutely the worst, most helpless teacher ever. Going to his office hours does not help. He enjoys making you feel like you are not smart if you are not as smart as he is..which no one in any of his classes should be, or else they wouldn't be taking the course. He doesn't understand that, I guess. DO NOT TAKE HIM!! Rudest teacher I have ever had!
He's a good teacher, he loves what he's doing and it's reflected in his lectures. You HAVE to do the reading for the tests but he'll answer questions you have and he's pretty approachable, I'd say take his class =]
Probably the hardest grader I've come across at JMU, but that was a good challenge and it forced me to work a lot harder. This class was about American founding theory, so it required plenty of thought and analysis, and his expectations were pretty high. He's really intelligent and I feel like I learned a lot from him..be prepared to work and LEARN
He thinks that the entire classs is going to law school. He also is not goo at returning things before you get the next assignment. Meeting with him during his office hours doesn't help with understanding or getting a better grade, even if he makes you feel like you understand. Not good with email. He is very smart but too smart to teach.
“He thinks that the entire class is going to law school.” Exactly… he is a very smart guy, but has zero people skills, this is the reason he is teaching and not working in politics. He thinks he is above everyone, and seems to have no time at all for students that need help, but has time to talk down to the law geeks that worship him.
He was supposed to be my Poli Sci advisor for FOUR YEARS. Despite dozens of attempts, he met with me ONCE and was the rudest person I ever encountered in Harrisonburg (quite a feat at that). I had to stalk him to even get that one encounter. He ignores ALL e-mails. Absolutely horrible. I can't imagine what pompous, unhelpful instructor he could be.
Lubert is horrible. This class was a complete waste of my time and money. There are a series of essays in which you are required to consider the text. However, no matter how hard you try, you won't be able to ascertain an A. He is incredibly pompous, rude, and arrogant, both during office hours and out. Save yourself the heartache.
I absolutely adore this class. There is a lot of reading, but it's all really interesting and he does a great job of explaining everything. He is a really fair grader--the essay grades aren't arbitrary at all. I highly recommend taking any class that he teaches.
A great professor! One of the best I have ever had. Difficult but rewarding. If you dont like a challenge, do not take the class. If you like a challenge, take the course - you wont regret it.
not a horrible teacher. but definitly not what I would call an easy class. It is essential that you do the readings in order to succeed on the tests and sometimes readings would be up to 50 pages a night. Open book texts, and yet it was impossible to get an a. Nice guy, difficult class, but i still managed to get a B, with a lot of effort.
Really cool professor. He does a really good job of explaining the texts. His tests are really easy if you read the material. Really interesting class.
not a terribly hard class if you put effort in, alot of my business classes require less effort. HOWEVER, while most teachers stay moderate in the classroom this guy is a SECOND away from a tree-hugging socialist. He's extremely pompous, and sent out rude emails when students questioned his inaccurate instructions.
Lubert is a GREAT guy. He is my advisor & is very helpful in office hours. Read the book. Read the extra assignments. Read each chapter/lecture notes twice before a test. You will survive and learn a lot. Don't sign up for this class if you don't want to work...if that's the case take GHIST.
Amazingly arrogant, condescending, and rude. Treats students like idiots. His clarity when lecturing is wasted by his interpersonal skills. Very slow grader. First test was absurd, second was reasonable. If you have lots of time to read the journal articles etc, take it, you'll learn, but don't expect a free ride.
2 tests worth 25 percent of your grade each, final worth 45 percent...tests are rediculously hard, you have to read every assignment very carefully and a couple of times to do well on the tests, which make up basically your whole grade. lectures are boring and attendance is not mandiatory but go because it will help you understand the readings
Lubert is hard. End of story, exams are nearly impossible and the final is insane. He has a haughty attitude and makes students despise him for it. He finally gave us a final study guide, 8 pages single spaced... There are easier professors out there, drop if at all possible! (2 Exams 25% each and final 45% with 5% movie posts)
COULDNT STAY AWAKE! dont do it.
I would highly recommend not taking this professor. Grades are based mostly off of tests, with the final counting for 45% of your grade. This would not be so bad if the tests weren't impossible. Lectures are very difficult to understand, he is not very clear at all.
I transferred from JMU to UVA after my first year, and I have yet to find a professor as good as Dr. Lubert at UVA. He is extremely intelligent and I learned a lot from his class. He's the fairest grader I've ever had. I took an American PT class at UVA and used the notes I took in Lubert's class to study for it. He's amazing.
It is a 4 credit class, due to the movie nights, but you only get 5 pts to your total grade for attending the movie, a waste of time! He lectures, but the test are completely on the book. Here's a test question example,"The Colonist were how much knowledgeable on self governing..A: somewhat B:a little C: a lot D:very..yea that confusing..DON'T TAKE
He is a very good professor. Clearly knows a great deal about the subject, I found the lecture to be very interesting purely because he does not write them out before coming to class he basically writes down a few key topics and then covers them in depth. You have to keep up on the readings if you want to succeed at all in this class though.
Senior Seminar, Humor and Politics. Class is only discussion of the reading: buy the books and come to class having done the reading. 25 page paper (department requirement). He has you hand in several assignments to track your progress throughout the semester so you don't fall behind near the end. All POSC majors must take 492, take him if you can!
Just an awful class. Hard grader. A LOT of reading. Had to rethink my major after this class, even though I love POSC... and it was him. If there are other sections not involving him, take them... nothing can be this bad. Seemed pompous, also, when talking to him.
Three tests and a final. Finally a professor that does not read off of powerpoints! He really knows is stuff, and if you take good notes in class, expect a B or higher. Hes probably the best professor I have had at JMU and a very good lecturer.
He was wonderful, very helpful outside of class!! The class had a midterm, a final, and six quizzes. The lectures are not mandatory, but a lot of the test questions are pulled from lecture.
He's a great professor. He's very passionate about what he teaches and he's super helpful. Don't be afraid to ask him questions outside of class! As long as you pay attention in class, and take good notes, you should be fine.
Dr. Lubert is the best teacher I have ever had. It's hard to find a professor that is as enthusiastic about the material being taught. It's important to do the readings and pay attention, but if you do it's a relatively easy and enjoyable class.
This class would have been tough and boring no matter who taught it but I'm glad I got to take it with Lubert, simply because he was really into his lectures and his notes were detailed, but easy to understand. Go to every class, cause he explains the readings. 2 tests and a final.
This class is so hard. It is just a Gen ED, but the style of teaching is something that shouldn't be used until you are in your Major classes. You show up, and he just talks. You're expected to take notes on everything he says. He has a midterm, a final, and a paper. I failed my midterm and will not be surprised if I fail the class. Avoid him
really nice guy but the class is super hard for a gen ed. he doesnt take attendance but going to class is helpful. only 3 grades in the class are a 2 part midterm, end of semester paper, and final so you cant afford to get a bad grade on any. readings/textbook are a must
Dr. Lubert makes this gened class harder than my major classes. He is so boring and just talks for an hour and 15 minutes straight. Only three grades in the class so if you fail one, you're screwed. Tests are hard. AVOID HIM AT ALL COSTS
Only 3 assignments: a midterm, paper, & final. If you do poorly on one consider dropping unless you want to fail. He goes off on many tangents during lecture. Talks for the ENTIRE class. Lectures are very boring and hard to follow. Receiving help during office hours is unlikely. Can be rude at times, too. I would suggest taking someone else!
An pompous, elitist jerk. Rudest professor I've had in three years at JMU. He scoffs at your questions in office hours, and thinks of himself as one of the "Philosopher kings" he speaks of in class. Don't expect to be able to read his writing on the board, and he won't repeat anything, so pay attention. Avoid!
Prof. Lubert was incredible for our senior seminar. He really takes the time to know everyone and is overall a really nice guy. Don't judge him by the 200 level ratings below! Lots of discussion, and he really walks you through the paper process so you come out with a quality paper. Definitely take him for Senior Seminar!
Dr. Lubet is not hard by any means. If you like Political Science you'll A's his class He LOVES political philosophy and teaching. He is funny and his lectures are interesting. Before going to class, I expected it to be hard and boring. However, that class was supper interesting and informative! There are only 2 quizzes, 1 midterm, and 1 final
He's a nice guy and really loves the subject. However, the lectures seem to go on forever. He assigns three papers that are very specific, and he is a very hard grader. There's only one test and that's the final. If you miss more than two classes you lose a letter grade. Finally, DO NOT LET HIM SEE YOUR CELL PHONE. He gets really upset.
Smartest professor I have ever had. He is one of the few who can lecture for 55 minutes straight without power points. Go to class and study his notes for the exams and quizzes and it is not too bad. Some say he can be rude, but if you show dedication and genuine interest then he is very willing to help and clarify during office hoursafter class
Class is very dry. Lots of reading. If you don't take exceptional notes you're pretty much done for. Interjects personal opinions into lectures more frequently than necessary. However, he is very in to the subject and shows enthusiasm. Don't skip class!
Dr. Lubert is a really nice guy, but this class is dull. This a political philosophy class where he talks about different philosophers. There is rarely any class discussion of the texts. There's also only a midterm and a final, making it hard to get an "A" because he's a tough grader. Overall, it's an easy "B" but it's hard to sit through.
Spare you GPA and your brain and find another professor. Awful class. He just talks for an hour 15 every single class and expects you to take notes on the things he says. Tests include supplemental material not covered in class and are 40% of your grade... each. GenEd yet it is the hardest class I've taken to date.
He knows his stuff, and teaches well, but If you're not poly-sci and just taking it for the Gen-Ed, AVOID HIM. Almost the entire grade (80%) is based on TWO exams, and they're HARD. Honestly, he's a nice guy, and very approachable, but spare yourself the stress. I've studied a lot for this, but I might not even get a B in the class.
Professor Lubert is an awesome professor. He really loves government, and knows so much about it. I really liked going to class, because the content was interesting! The textbook is very important, and also very helpful. I'd take it again!
This class was ok until the final. It was near impossible due to strange wording and brought my grade down from a B to a D. Do not take!
He's a very nice guy and knows a TON about what he's teaching. I don't like the way he sets up his lectures though--a very brief outline on a word document and then explains everything off the top of his head. there's a ton of note taking and it can get very confusing. he doesn't post notes online so you have to go to class. tests can be hard.
Overall he is a good teacher. He is very knowledgable and informative during his lecture. I had him twice a week so the lectures were kinda long to sit through. Also you have to take lots of notes quickly too. He gave out 2 quizzes, 2 movieessay assignments, a midterm, and a final. I didn't read the txt book but I read his extra articles.
I had Lubert for GPOSC 225 too and I have to say was a great professor for both. His lectures are long but if you pay attention then the concepts make way more sense than with reading alone. He does a great job preparing you for tests through his study guides and through his lectures. Material can be challenging.
Where do I even begin with old Howie? Clear cut syllabus. 3 short essays (3pgs each), a long essay (7-8), 5 worksheets, and a final. Outlines his lectures based on the readings, so write down everything he says. He is a picky grader; you'll get back a clean essay, but still see a big B+ staring back at you. 330 is an interesting class though!
Prof Lubert was hands down my favorite professor in the Political Science department @ JMU. While he is a tough grader, he is an extremely intelligent man and truly cares about the subject matter. When you finally do receive that A on a paper--you KNOW it's deserved. I highly suggest taking his seminar, along with any other class he offers.
Howard Lubert is very passionate and knowledgeable about the subject matter. We had papers instead of tests. He is a tough grader at first, but once you understand how he grades it is easy to be successful in class. Definitely one of my favorite professors within the political science department! Take him if you can!
Good professor. Only has a few assignments: -Four "short" 4pg essays -One 7-9ph final essay due during finals week (this is your "final exam") A lot of reading but it's not too hard, especially if you're into pol theory.
Kind of a jerk. But he's very intelligent. Lots of reading. Very few assignments and he grades pretty harshly
Lubert is super smart but grades papers very harshly. Do not expect to get an A in the class except on the online quizzes. Definitely must read for this class.
Lubert is very caring about his students and is willing to work with them if they have any difficulty understanding paper assignments. The class was only graded by three papers and participation, and the papers are not easy. If you fall behind in readings, this course will cause you a lot of stress. Learned a decent amount in this class
While he is intelligent, his ego gets in the way. He thinks and talks like he is above his students. He once told a friend in the class that he prefers that no one takes notes and we just listen to him talk. Although he does allow handwritten notes, he doesn't allow anything else. Just talks the whole time and doesn't answer questions directly.
Lots of reading but that's to be expected. If there's anything you struggle with he's pretty good about breaking it down, and he will literally answer any question you have so don't hesitate if you're confused,
Lubert knows what he is talking about. Really good at explaining the reading, if you don't understand, don't worry he will explain it! Don't hesitate to ask questions he is happy to answer them. Really knows what he is talking about you and you will genuinely learn. Take this class for Western Political Theory.
Lubert is very knowledgeable and intriguing. He is by far one of my favorite professors in the department. We only had three 6pg paper assignments. If you find yourself needing help, he is beyond willing to do so. I learned a lot of interesting information in this class
I studied for an entire week for his final and still failed. I worked night and day to even PASS this class and I still came within .5% of failing. No matter how hard you try, you will always be disappointed with the grade you receive on papers and exams. Don't take this class. Spare your GPA. Take someone else. You will regret this.
Dr. Lubert is the best professor I have ever had at JMU. He is intelligent, detailed, and willing to help whenever possible. If you put the work in, you are definitely rewarded. He is fair, kind, and is dressed perfectly for every class. He treats you as an adult, but has a humor that is contagious. Take him!
Dr. Lubert is clear, thoughtful, and truly passionate about the subject. The material itself is a bit dry, but pretty much all political theory and thought is. But you'll learn a lot and will make think deeper about the American founding and our political origins.
I found Lubert to be one of the most unapproachable professors I've had. I went to his office hours a few times, and if you don't seem like you know what's going on, he doesn't seem willing to help. He always told me to "go deeper" on written assignments but I would literally write until the end of class. Only timed write exams and quizzes. Avoid.
THIS WAS THE WORST TEACHER I'VE EVER HAD. Just DONT take this man. Very HARD grader. Find someone else!!!
Made a big mistake in my life for taking this class with him. Very hard grader. Always disappointed with his grading.
very very bad professor. Save yourself from the trouble and take it with someone else.
I had Dr. Lubert for his senior seminar and I liked it. It was on the 1787 Convention and ratification debates. The material felt like it got a bit repetitive and sometimes wasn't the most interesting, but Dr. Lubert does his best to try and keep the class engaged. Didn't give exams; just daily reading summaries and papers. Would recommend overall!
Dr. Lubert is not a bad teacher, don't let these other reviews fool you. I've had him twice in a row. The classes are reading intensive, but I barely read all of both semesters and got a B and a C. Just be able to write well and you should be okay. He does care about attendance as well. Just try to structure good arguments in your papers.
Lubert is absolutely a bad teacher, definitely this guy deserve zero credit as a professor.
Really enjoyed this class. If you want to learn, take Lubert.
This man is no joke. He hates everything you write and is the hardest grader ever. His lectures are legit painful to sit through bc he doesn't use power points and rarely writes on the board and it is so boring. Also he provided studyguides for the first two exams but not the final??? so im writing this instead of studying. stay away from Lubert.
He is very harsh on grading papers. Our class average for almost every paper was a 73. Do not take him if you don't want to your GPA to suffer.
please save yourself and don't take him. he is so pretentious and teaches like he expects everyone to already know everything. he grades so harshly, like he expects your writing to be on the same level as his. I was never able to figure out how to write the papers to his liking (even tho I met with him, where he was really rude) and had to drop.
Worst Teacher Ive had at JMU. DO NOT TAKE. Class average every paper was in mid 70s.
I didnt feel comfortable talking to him in class when I had him. He is an incredibly harsh grader and makes you feel stupid in his critiques in your papers. i have never felt so bad about myself and my abilities to write. please dont take him.
Such a hard grader and so hard to pay attention in class. He lectured every class for the entire time and you have so much reading outside of the class. The final was the easiest part of the entire class. You will for sure learn in this class, but it is a very hard one.
Dr. Lubert is extremely knowledgeable in all things political theory and really cares about what he teaches! He is a tough grader, but you will learn so much in his classes. He also gives extra credit for participation and attendance.
Do not take this class with this guy, he literally lectures about Sophocles and Plato for the entire hour and 15 minutes every single class, no slides, visuals, writing or anything, no student feedback just him talking endlessly about the most boring stuff EVER. He also gives pop quizzes and never lets anybody make them up
I thought 201 was scary but it's just like any other dense lecture class. It's graded on 2 exams (hard) and 2 pop quizzes (easy). 201 is a POSC requirement but highly recommend taking it with Lubert. It's not that bad!! if you go to class and study before exams you'll do fine!!
Prof. L is clearly passionate+smart but the way he structures his class is inaccessible and clearly not designed to benefit the student. Post covid it is irresponsible to provide no supplement to the lecture (needed for complex readings), which is often an unstructured tangent.1/2 of the class had the Flu, they had no way to learn what they missed.
Lubert is a really really out of touch and poor professor in the POSC department at JMU. Insane readings, an expensive hard to find book, abilist attendance policies, and so few grades that are graded so harshly. Not to mention, his lectures are him talking on tangents at you for an hour+ in which he never actually teaches or clears anything up.
Honestly, pretty decent class in terms of what you learn but it will beat ur ass. I had to go back on medication and probably have spent countless nights sobbing over this class because of how harshly he grades and how few assignments make up the grade. Ur final grade is basically ur exam plus ur final paper average. Good luck lol
Prof. Lubert is a tough professor. His lectures were rambling and rather unclear at times. He isn't very accessible outside of class and to me at times comes off as rude. Overall the class is difficult if you don't read or take note of everything he says. Make sure you don't miss a test or pop quiz because he won't let you make it up.
Amazing. I learned so much. Dr. Libertad is the quintessential inspiring, thought-provoking college professor you see in movies. Take all you can with him!
There are bi-weekly quizzes but he assigns them ahead of time on the syllabus. A lot of reading so be prepared. Will not go over everything assigned just focuses on a few. Overall, if you are more theory minded this class if great! If you participate and go to class, he tends to be more lenient with you.
I had him for African American Political Thought, and he was amazing. Such a smart guy and truly loves talking about the course material. There is A LOT of reading, but it will 100% help you understand the material better. The class could be a little bit more organized but it wasn't anything detrimental. JMU's PolTheory department is top notch.
Dr. Lubert is very knowledgeable and insightful, he is very thorough in class about the different readings we cover. His exams are just an essay completed in a blue book and he gives good feedback on what you did right/wrong. However, this class is a bit dull and he has a harsh attitude towards students who use any technology in class.
Good professor, passionate about what he's lecturing about which makes it more interesting. Three exams make up your entire grade which is challenging. Take detailed notes and actually read the books assigned and you'll do fine. You need to study for this class and go to class always.
Do not take this class. It is very lecture heavy and the whole grade is based on three exams two essays and a multiple choice final. Average is probably a C in the class. Do not take
You are only graded on 3 exams. The first two were both written, no multiple choice. The last exam was the easiest one and it was all multiple choice. He gives "study guides" for the first two exams, however, they are just sample questions, and may not even be on the test. His lectures are good, and would advise not to skip them// read your books.
Im in topics in political theory: the enlightenment and all I can say is get ready to read A LOT. Graded on a few in class quizzes, midterm(in class essay), research paper, and final. Make sure to take notes during readings and take very thorough notes during lecture. Readings can sometimes be very hard to get through and difficult to understand.
Great Professor. He is very passionate about what he teaches and very knowledgeable. His lectures were always interesting. As long as you go to class and take notes you will be fine. I never did the readings and wrote down everything he said. The first two exams and the final is a very easy multiple choice.
Dr. Lubert is very passionate but his lectures are long and can be confusing. You are graded on 3 multiple choice exams, there are no study guides/slides to help you study. Your only resource to study are the notes you take in class during lecture. There is a no technology rule so you have to hand write all notes. Don't take this unless you have to
Professor Lubert is knowledgeable, but his lectures can be dull. The class is heavily exam-based, so staying on top of readings and taking detailed notes is crucial. unstuck AI helped me prepare effectively.
His lectures are clear, and the class is decently enjoyable. However, his exams are incredibly difficult and your only grade.
Only has three exams and they are very confusing. Does not help you if needed. Bad at accomadating
Do not take this professor unless you absolutely need to; you are only based on three tests, and they are extremely confusing. If you don't come to class or do the readings, you will not do well. He doesn't provide those lectures on canvas, so you have to remember everything. He hates technology, and you have to handwrite all your notes.
I took Prof. Lubert for POSC 201 and let me just say he is hands down one of the worst Prof. in the political science department. He hates technology so you'll have to hand write all your notes and print out the books if you can although they are posted on canvas. If you want to do we'll go to class but be aware that there's only 3 exams. DONT TAKE
The lectures are dense, but he gives you everything you need to know during them. If you show up and take good notes, it should be fine. Graded by only three exams which is tough. Technology isn't allowed and attendance isn't graded. Overall, enjoyed the class, it was interesting.
Prof Lubert is such an annoying dude, he always gives lip to students and sounds condescending when answering questions. He gives quizzes almost every class and grades very harsh on tests. DO NOT TAKE HIM
The amount of reading for this class is ridiculous and your grade is only three exams so you need to do them. The entire class is just him talking at you while you take notes. No tech allowed. He's a nice enough guy but the design of the class sucks
his class is based on only three exams. the exams get harder as the year goes on. you have to go to class or you WILL fail, everything on the exams are discussed in class. like you're cooked if you dont go. there is a lot of readings, you should do most of them - but you'll be fine if you miss a few.
I loved this guy. He is very passionate about what he teaches which makes it cool. Attendance is not mandatory but he does give extra credit for going (you always want to go because u will struggle if you don't). Only graded on 3 test but everything that could be on it was 100% talked about during lecture. Very easy class if you just pay attention.
Dr. Lubert is nice as a person but a horrible professor. His lectures often go off on tangents to a point where I don't know what I'm actually supposed to be learning. I have gone to every class but am still on the brink of failing. Absolutely do not take his class, it is awful.
So much reading would not take! Also incredibly boring and I like the topics and lectures. Only 3 grades (tests) and he changed the format on them every time ( mcq, mcq/5 short response, mcq/8 page timed essay)
