One of THE BEST professors at Temple ever. Taught Broadcast Advertising & Workshop. Helpful, encouraging and kind to students and has a vast amount of field experience. Expects much from students but grades fairly. I wish there were more profs like him.
I am currently in his class. He seems lie a nice guy. He is fair and gives good examples. i enjoy his class and he also does cool things like bring in doughnuts and gives $$ if you answer questions right sometimes. A few bucks but still cool. take him
best teacher i had!
One of the best professors at Temple. Nice, funny, caring, fair,...He goes out of his way for students to help them with class and with career searching. Has years of experience and connections with people in the media industry. I recommend him highly!
one of the best teachers at temple
Great guy! really cares. Best techer I have had at Temple
Amazing person and teacher
Broadcast advertising. nice guy, really cares about the students and teaching.
excellent teacher. really liked to teach and had real-life experience. also very understanding and helpful. definitely the best teacher ive ever had. his classes are generally really early, but totally worth it.
howard rice is the best teacher i ever had. he is super helpful in everything and i very respectable. he know's so much about everything and has an amazing passion for what he teaches. the sweetest guy ever. take all his classes. tehy are well worth it.
Best teacher I've ever had. A very inspirational guy. He is one of the kindest, and most helpful people i have ever met. Be sure to take advantage of his great classes.
Not enough space to say enough good things about this class and this professor. Definitely one of my more memorable classes and professors at temple. if you are reading this wondering if you should register for his courses- DO IT NOW!
Such a great and attentive teacher. He really wants his students to learn and do well.
Nice guy but his writing class is just one big emotional jerk off for him. He stopps class eevry 5 minutes just to talk about some cancer patients he knows or some girl who lost her mother and how writing saved her life. He dosn't like creative writing you do, only pieces about how emotional you are, no real writing or teaching involved.
had prof rice for both bdcst adv and writing workshop this past semester. learned about new career opportunities i had never considered in bdcst adv and in writing workshop learned more about writing in 13 weeks than i had in 16 years! grades on my papers in other classes went up soos as i applied what i learned.a caring, passionate teacher!
Really enjoyed this class for lots of reasons. Prof. Rice cares about each and every student and their writing. Goes out of his way to be helpful. I wish I could have taken this course all over again, that's how nuch I liked it.
Just wanted to put in my four cents worth about prof. rice and the two courses he teaches. he made them interesting, enjoyable, fun. he is very approachable, very willing to help during the class or outside of class.he loves teaching and it shows!
I went into this class without any confidence in my writing and came out with a lot of confidence, thanks to the way Prof. Rice taught the course. He explained key points clearly, he gave everyone all the time and attention they needed. I learned a lot and thoroughly enjoyed the class and the way it was taught. I highly recomend it.
Howard Rice is the best professor at Temple. I graduated over a year ago and I still keep in touch with him. He provided me with great career advice and continues to send me lists of books he thinks I'd like to read! He was the only teach I had who became a mentor to me, and I am eternally grateful for his guidance!
Sweetest man on campus. Honestly concerned with students' academics and careers. Completely willing to help with mentoring, guidence and recommendations. Plus, he brings snacks to class.
One of the best teachers EVER!!! TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
The worst teacher ever. Avoid taking his course at all costs. His grading scale doesnt make any sense and his lectures are full broadcasting/media planning terms. He is also 107 and he is becoming senile. Avoid taking this course at all cost.
Never have I had a better teacher in all my years at Temple.Cares about students like no other teacher ever.Interesting, fun, involved. Wish he taught more courses.
Graduating in a few days. Looking back over my years here at Temple and thinking of all the teachers I've had, Professor Rice comes out on top. Had him for two courses and enjoyed both of them. Loved his teaching style!
If i was grading him, I'd give him an Aplus. Speaking of grades, he couldn't be more fair. He tells you just what to expect on tests. He goes out of his way to be clear and helpful. Great teacher, great guy.
Several friends recommended Prof. Rice and I'm glad they did. Had him for two classes; enjoyed them both. He is the most student-helpful teacher I ever had. He really goes out of his way to work with students in any way he can. Can't say enough good things about him!
Class is absolutely MANDATORY to attend if you want to pass, as there is no actual book you can read to be ready for this man's tests. Group projects and final papers mean nothing if you can't do well on the tests, which weigh much more in the long run. Don't take this unless you're sure you're going to get every single note.
Most helpful teacher I've ever had. Had him for two classes and would highly recommend him for either. People say taking a class with Professor Rice is a must before you graduate and they're right!
loved everything about bdcst adv -- prof rice's teaching style, how much he cared about us, but liked most the fact that we didn't need a text book -- instead he gave us clear handouts that included everything we had on the tests. and he always encouraged us to ask questions. i got an A- just be showing up and paying attention.
NOT JUST THE BEST TEACHER I HAD AT TEMPLE, BUT THE BEST TEACHER I EVER HAD IN ALL 16 YEARS OF SCHOOL!!!! wonderful teacher, great guy.
five years out of school and he's the one professor i still keep in touch with. just as gracious and obliging now as he was when i had him as a teacher.goes out of his way to help. this man cares!
One of the best professors on campus. No book, answers questions, gives class time EVERY CLASS for projects. He seriously brings in cookies and doughnuts every single class. This man is a true kind hearted person who loves his job, and genuinely loves his students.
Must take: nicest/greatest prof at temple. Gives time for projects in class - wants you to do well. Tests are fill in the blanks...offers muffins! Overall great guy
Nice dude, but no sylabus, no blackbaord, very unclear final assignment. hes a nice guy but dont take the class
Could not have asked for a better teacher. Took time to answer all questions, syllabus was comprehensive and clear, showed real interest in all students. Even came in on study day to help anyone who wanted it. Many of my friends told me to take this class and I;m so glad I did.
tho theres no book for bdcst adv (which i came to like a lot)between the sylabus and detailed handouts prof rice makes it easy to follow. and in every class he always says, sometimes 2 or 3 times, do you have any questions?is everything clear? he really wants you to do well. i'm taking him for writing wksp next semester. super teacher.
He's a super nice guy, but basically feel like I wasted the credits I used to take this class. He spends 20 minutes giving definitions, 10 minute break, 20 minutes telling long winded stories about his advertising career that aren't really helpful, then sends you home. I learned next to nothing and did okay on his tests.
Had Prof Rice for both bdcst adv and writing wkshp back to back this semester. Though very different, I really learned ALOT in both courses--- in fact, I wish he taught another course -- i would take it -- he's that great a teacher.
in terms of useful course content, one of the two best i had in my 4 years at Temple.in terms of HOW the material was presented, number one, the best of any class i took.
never thought i'd say this about an 8am class, but i never missed one of prof rices bdcst adv classes, mainly because i found them so intresting with the videos, the lectures, group projects, stories about the real world of adv etc one of the most worthwhile classes in all my time at Temple
take a great course with lots of goodinformation -- like bdcst adv -- a teacher like howard rice who makes eveything intresting( and that's saying something for an 8AM class) and you have a winner, both the course and the teacher. great way to wind up my 4 yrs at Temple.
when people talk about prof rice they right away say that he's kind and how much cares about his students. all true.fact is, he's also a flat out really great teacher. u come away from his courses having learned a lot without being overwhelmed by the workload. he loves what he does and it shows in every class.
lots of good things to say about prof rice, one is that he doesn't just talk the talk he walks the walk. had his own ad agency for years and sometimes he shares relevent stories about experiences that makes the academic stuff more meaningful. he helps prepare you for the real world 'cause he's worked in the real world.
Both prof rice and his two classes exceded my expectations and they were really high going in based on what so many friends told me -- about his teaching style and how interesting bdcst adv and writing workshop were. i came away in both cases feeling i had a great experience with an outstanding teacher, would reccomend either class to anyone.
prof rice is more than a great teacher he's also an inspiring teacher. he roots for you, he encourages you, he wants you to well and he'll go out of his way to help you succeed -- even after you've graduated. i have great respect for him as a teacher and also as a man.i am so glad our paths crossed.
had professor rice eightyears ago for bdcst adv and writing workshop. to this day whenever i have a question about adv (my field) or writing, sometimes even speedbumps in life, i send him an email and he responds as thoroughly and as quickly as he did when i was in his classes. the man keeps on caring, even years later.
simply outstanding teacher! had him for bdcst adv and am looking forward to his writing workshop, heard great things about it. love his sense of humor, easy to talk to, always keeps things intresting. highly recommend him.
cannot say enough good things about him. he"s passionate about teaching.he's always clear, always patient with questions. makes every class interesting. doesn't just go through the motions.if he taught a third class i'd take it in a minute.
I've had Rice for two courses, he's the sweetest man in the department. Extremely passionate about writing and helping. He brings treats and tells jokes. His tests are easy, and he knows how to have fun in an 8am writing course.
even after just the first week of two classes with prof rice i can see why he's rated so highly.he's very clear, down to earth and easy to talk to. and it's obvious that he loves teaching. i'm looking forward to the rest of the semester in both bdcst adv and writing workshop
OUTSTANDING teacher very clear, very helpful, makes every class interesting.you can see he really puts a lot into it and its obvious he enjoys what he does.
i just wish he taught more courses.had him for the two he teaches, and i know it's a stretch but i could gladly take both again, that's how much i enjoyed the courses and his teaching style. learning was never more of a pleasure!
always willing to help in any way he can.always approachable, easy to talk to.makes every class interesting with basic course stuff and lots of things he brings in from his real work experience, passionate about teaching, genuinely likes students and it shows. so glad i took two courses with him!
had him this semester for bdcst adv and will take his writing workshop next semester. had heard tons of good things about him--- he exceeded my expectations and they were really high. if you get a chance, take a class with him. you'll be glad you did.
NEVER HAD A TEACHER WHO GOES MORE OUT OF HIS WAY TO HELP STUDENTS BOTH IN CLASS AND OUT OF CLASS. PROF RICE CARES NOT ONLY ABOUT THE COURSES HE TEACHES BUT ALSO ABOUT THE STUDENTS IN THE COURSES. CANNOT SAY ENOUGH GOOD THINGS ABOUT HIM!!!
now that the semesters over, i can appreciate prof rice even more, in looking back and after seeing my grades in both of his classes.he is a very fair grader -- what's more, he does everything he can to help and encourage students to get good grades, at the beginning of the class he says something like "if you do well, i do well." he means it.
had prof rice for two classes. had heard such good things about him but turned out he was even BETTER than i heard.very clear, very warm and personable, really knows his stuff and really CARES about students and wants them do do well. i'd take him for any class, any time, any where.
VERY approachable, easy to talk to, very clear, makes every class interesting, goes out of his way to answer questions, overall an excellent teacher and, yes, i really look forward to coming to an 8 o'clock class,
for sure one of my all time best teachers EVER -- highschool, college, any time anywhere --- helpful, approachable, likeable, knows his stuff, loves to teach, cares about students as PEOPLE not just as a bunch of kids in a classroom. can't say enough good things about him.
been out of school seven years now and if i could go back and take prof rice's classes again (i had both) i would in a minute. i learned so much about advertising and about writing -- and just as much about LIFE. i'm still in touch with him and he responds immediately, just like he did when i was his student. special special man
about half way through the spring semester, taking two classes with prof rice and i can certainly see why so many people talk so highly about him.he's an outstanding teacher, a nice, caring man.i couldn't be happier with the way things are going
not just a fantastic teacher, but one of the best people i've ever come across --- really and truly cares about his students not just while they're in class but for years afterwards. brings so much humanity to every class.
outstanding teacher in every way and an all 'round great guy, caring, considerate, kind. for me to say i loved an 8'oclock class is really something, but i looked forward to it twice a week, that's how much i enjoyed his teaching style and "the way he goes about life."
Such an amazing professor. He is so genuine about his students understanding the information and he wants everyone to do well in his class. He is so passionate about advertising, it's adorable. Extremely down to earth and such a sweet heart. I would take his class again in a heart beat. Definitely a favorite of mine at Temple.
me. who never wanted to take an 8 o'clock class, not only did i look forward to every class with prof rice, i actually find myself MISSING the class three weeks after the semester is over. he covers the subject with enthusiasm and passion and he always works in invaluable thoughts about LIFE. this man cares about students and it shows!
so many good things to say about prof rice -- and just one of them is how CLEAR he makes everything -- how well he explains what he is saying and what he is looking for with assignments and projects.and he ALWAYS asks if anyone has any questions. and he ALWAYS is patient in answering the questions no matter how long it takes. i give him an A+
He is easily the nicest, kindest, most caring professor in all of Temple University. His class is so informative and so easy to pass. You can tell that he genuinely cares about his students and he is such a nice guy. Definitely take his class!
here we are coming to the end of another semester and i can honestly say about both the classes i have had with prof rice is that i wish they could continue. never thought i would say that about a class but it's more than the classes and the subjects, it's the way prof rice puts so much into his teaching and how much he cares about his students!
most helpful, most caring, most engaging professor i ever had. had him for both the courses he teaches and would have signed up for ANY COURSE he teaches. his style is unlike any other. he is so involved, so enthusiastic, loves teaching and it shows.
howard rice is an exceptional prof for many reasons. he really wants you to do well. he often says he's proud of you and when he says it you know he means it and you feel so good. and he wants you to feel proud of yourself. you come out of his classes having learned much more than just the subject he's teaching. you learn about yourself!
had him for two classes, both times they were 8 o'clock. me, a guy who thinks noon is early -- and i came to every class because he made them interesting, because he really gives his all to his students, because every assignment is crystal clear - he is patient with ANY questions. i did not want either class to end, that's how much i enjoyed them
Prof Rice was far and away the best teacher I ever had, not just in college but in all my years at school. He is so approachable, so interesting, so caring.I will miss his classes (I took two) and I will miss him. Big time.
when i took classes with prof rice i felt i learned a lot. and since i've graduated and i'm out in the "real world" i realize just how much i learned, not just about writing and advertising and how to prepare for an interview and do a job search, but also i learned a lot about life in general. that's all part of the way he teaches.
yes i miss his 8 o'clock class.can't believe i said that. swore i would never take an 8 o'clock class and then took his and never missed a class, never came in late --it was that interesting.and prof rice gives it his all. i mean he is really into teaching.and he cares about us as people not just as students in a class. a
So interesting. So willing to help. So easy to talk to. So obvious he really knows his stuff after working in the business for many years and running his own company. And does he ever care about his students! Wants you to do well and gives you every opportunity to succeed.Put him at the top of the list of favorite teachers.
prof rice is*considerate *helpful *caring*eager to see us succeed*down to earth*approachable*extremely knowledgable*organized*very clear in his expectations*one of my favorite professors of all time!
Mr Rice was great! He kept class short and if you impressed him in some small way, he loved you forever.
i had professor rice for two classes seven years ago. to this day whenever i have a problem i need to get guidance for, i contact him, and he always responds. i learned so much from him in his classes, both about the subjects and about life. . he cares deeply about his students when they're in school and keeps caring after they graduate.
Professor Rice was one of my all time favorite Professors. As a 33 year old student in classes of 18 and 19 year olds he made me feel extremely comfortable and was always interested in what had to say.
Although he's a nice guy, be prepared that this isn't an easy class. There's no textbook, the class isn't even listed on blackboard, he doesn't email ever, refuses to have reviews for exams, and the syllabus is literally words of encouragement in big font. No due dates or assignments on it. If you don't get the notes from his mouth, you're screwed.
Media Adv and Writing Workshop with prof Rice were two of the best courses I took in four years at Temple AND prof Rice was the best teacher i had in any school ever. very clear, very caring, very passionate about teaching
from the first day of themedia adv class when he passed out a very detailed syllabus (and followed it throughout the course) all the way to the very clear and very fair final exam, prof rice did a great job. he made it easy to learn, fun to learn, i would recommend this class and this professor without hesitation!
howard rice went out of his way to make sure we understood everything and were well prepared for the tests. his syllabus was comprehensive and he followed it point by point throughout the semester. he always treated us like adults and always showed how much he cared about us as people, not just as students in a media advertising course.
puts more effort into teaching than any teacher i ever had. makes it clear from day one that he wants students to do well and goes out of his way to make sure they do. makes learning fun and interesting. could write a book about good things he does as a teacher.
right from the first day of class when he puts on the syllabus I WANT YOU TO DO WELL in very large letters you really get the feeling that prof rice DOES want his students to do well and from the perspective of a student who had him for 2 classes he goes out of his way to help you do well. i will miss him
by far the best classes i ever took and best teacher i ever had, not just at Temple but in all my years as a student. my only regret is that he didn't teach more courses; i'd have taken them for sure. made learning a pleasure and i really learned a lot, not just about advertising and writing but also about life.
everything you want in a good teacher and then some. it's like the man was born to teach. goes out of his way to make sure you understand everything. always willing to meet with you if you have any concerns. great sense of humor, makes classes fun, you learn more than just the subjects, invaluable life lessons as well.
i already miss professor rice and his classes . he made learning interesting and fun, whether it was writing workshop or media advertising. he knows his stuff for sure. but more, he knows how to teach, how to keep students engaged. truth is, i will ALWAYS be his student, and that feels good and right.
Howard Rice is an amazing professor and a better man. The impact that he has made on me is immeasurable. He really cares about his students. I graduated from Temple 24 years ago and I still keep in touch with him. Everyone should be lucky enough to have someone like Howard Rice in his or her life.
i write this with pleasure and gratitude pleasure because it was a pleasure taking two classes with prof rice and gratitude because i will always be grateful for the way he taught and for all i learned, not just about advertising and writing but about life as well. he's the best of the best.
new semester's going pretty good but i really miss taking a class with prof rice. had him for two and wish he taught more. sets up a great atmosphere, you look forward to coming to his classes, yes, even one at 8 in the morning. all around A for him.
Once your Howard Rice's student, he'll always be there for you . . . even long after you graduate. He has helped me four times in the past three years, went out of his way every time, never made me feel I was imposing. he was a very good teacher he is a very good man
