Because of Dr. Shen, I have never been more inspired to learn about cancer. He's a great lecturer and knows how to keep the class engaged and interested. His appreciation for science and the wonders of the human body makes me want to learn all that I can from what knowledge he has to share. His exams are very straight forward as well. He is great!!

Professor Shen is one of the more likeable lecturers at UH because he's a good one. The class was super easy, even if you don't have the book (which you should because it's a really good textbook) you will be able to do well in his exams so long as you pay attention in class (attendance is mandatory) take good notes, and learn from this professor!

Fantastic professor! Really covers material well and thoroughly, goes out of his way to do review sessions to help us study for exams. It's definitely a course that you need to study for and do outside work. To me, a good professor is someone who sends their slides to you outside of class, but still makes you want to show up to class to listen.

Dr. Shen is a wonderful professor! He is always ready to help students if they have questions or concerns and he's accessible outside of class. His lectures are great and the info can be a little challenging, but if you have a good background in molecular cell biology (or bio in general) than you'll be fine. He's so inspiring and knowledgable!

If you go to class and keep up with the lecture material you will be able to excel in the course. Reading the textbook helps but you can learn most of the concepts from Dr. Shen's lectures alone. He also uses easy to understand scenarios that helps you understand some of the more complex ideas easier.

This class is hard but Shen is amazing. Quizzes on Laulima that are basically free points. Tests are all multiple choice and he lets you looks at them after. He's really nice so if you go in to talk to him he'll be more lenient about rounding your grade up.

The best professor I've had in my college career. Powerpoint lectures and posts study guides with each one; use these to review for exams and you're good. (Almost) weekly homework and quizzes in recitation, textbook not really used but he follows it quite closely so it is a good resource to have if you're having trouble with a topic.

Shen is my favorite professor at UH, he's personable, funny, and makes hard concepts so simple with his insanely creative examples. His tests are a breeze if you follow his study guides and go to lectures. If you don't go to lecture you may need to get the book as most of his examples to aid understanding are verbal and "had to be there" things.

Shen is an amazing professor that loves to teach using analogies and props. Even though he gives great lectures, there is still a lot of effort required. There are homework assignments due almost every week, quizzes every recitation, and three exams total. To study, I would definitely recommend doing the study guides early (after each lectures).

Exams were two parts: multiple choice and free response over two days. Homework and study guides provided aligned very well with exam questions.

He clearly is very knowledgeable about his topics. His lectures are engaging and well-explained. He does expect you to perform at a high level, so you really need to put in the effort to understand all the details.

Howie is a wonderful professor. The course itself is VERY difficult in my opinion and depends heavily on who your TI is for recitation as they grade your written exam. My TI was very critical and gave me lower grades on exams than I thought that I deserved. If you are struggling with your TI, talk to them, talk to Howie and do your best to survive.

Excellent prof. Very clear in his content and uses helpful analogies to aid us in our understanding since I did find the concepts VERY confusing. Study guides are super detailed too and he has one for EVERY lecture. I wish I could've done better in the class, but that reflects on my poor study habits and not him. B/c he sets everyon up for success.
