Her class is quite a wild ride. It's very, very easy but very boring, filled with lots of childish work and games. She talks about the most UNAPPROPRIATE topics, even for a college class. She is unapproachable and detached from reality, very set in her ways, and cannot see things from anyone else's point of view. If she doesn't agree, you're wrong!
I liked her in the beginning. After a while, I started to dislike her. She's very OCD, and it gets to be REALLY ANNOYING. She's really picky with certain stuff. If she thinks she's right, then it's hard to change her mind. The class is easy overall, and a lot of her in-class discussions are pointless but amusing. She's kind of strict with absences.
She is unyielding and does not always communicate. She is sarcastic. I agree with previous poster, She is ALWAYS right!!Very difficult to get an A in this class. I have a B and I've never missed a class. Do not take her!!!!
She gives way too much busy work and useless projects!!
The class is not supposed to be hard, but this teacher really like things getting done HER way. Even when writing your own fictional papers, she will try to change it the way she likes it, and if you don't change it she won't give u a lot of credit. She talks a lot a out things off the topic.. and gives useless projects and games that only waste ti
She is not a good teacher, likes things HER way, and if you don't do it the way she likes it, you won't a very good grade. Waste time on random subjects about her childhood and very useless projects and games. I DO NOT recommend her
she is one of the worst teachers at the school. she assigns you work then she makes you do it her way and if you dont do it exactly that way she'll take off major points for little things. whatever you do dont take this class its not worth it.
Don't bother trying to raise your own points, because hers are always correct. A large part of your grade is participation, which consists of her handing out sticky notes for your contribution to discussions. This is completely arbitrary--someone might get a point for saying "yes" while another person states an entire argument and gets nothing.
This should be an easy class. Huang gets off subject and if you don't see it her way, you're an idiot. When she asks for 'short answers' on tests - give her long answers! It is impossible to memorize text verbatim but that's what she wants! I have to agree with all the previous posters.
Truly ironic, this professor cannot speak english very well. She actually can't speak in the past tense, use indefinite articles, nor possessive pronouns. I would understand if she was a part-time professor but full time.. you've got to be joking. not to mention she is always right. even though she is unable to properly articulate it into words.
She is always right. There will be a neverending debate if you don't see things her way. Class is very interactive and competitive. She's a harsh grader on papers. Assignments are really easy. She specializes in creative writing so we read short stories (interesting) and learn key terms.
I loved this class. The homework was really hard, but I learned a lot from it. In-class discussions are interesting, but Dr. Huang encourages them because they help with critical thinking. Overall, I recommend the class to anyone who really wants to learn and get better at their writing skills.
Dr. H is a good professor. She is considerably difficult because there will always be something she doesn't agree with regardless of it's importance. Also she will get annoyed when you don't fully understand something or do something incorrect. Other than that you will guaranteed leave that class with a better understanding of English. Easy class.
I took her over the summer and got along with her well, but she is quite argumentative. I ended up with an A in the class, because I took her over the summer, which is what I reccommend. We played games in her class and got candy, there are a few papers over the summer. We're assigned to read stories and participation is important.
Professor Huang...She can be cool at times but she loves to argue. Dont ever be late to her class because she will look at you weird. She is very strict on homework and essays. If you write a story and its not how she likes it she will make you pick a completly different topic even if its due the next day. She NEVER accepts late work!!!!
She spends a lot of time with pointless work and piles it on you. Do not argue with her she believes she is always right. She likes to do a lot of opinionated things in the classroom (debate, discussion, etc.) and might as well have majored in sociology or something similar. Things have to be HER way, and that makes the class harder than necessary.
She made class very fun and interactive. The problem was when it came to the papers. They had to be exactly what she wanted them to be. There was no freedom in that. She was fairly lenient in her grading. I had to work hard in her class to get the B i received.
She has a very hard minded personality. I liked her in the beginning, but when it came to my paper and short story i really began to dislike her. But overall she has to be right about everything. But in the end i have appreciated her challenges, even the paper, because it has prepared me for what i'll have to do later on.
Loves to argue and won't settle for anything that is not exactly her way. She was fun at times and has good energy but her attitude the other 50% of the time cancels anything good out. Also assigned a lot of annoying online exercises that were nothing but time consuming. You don't actually learn anything from them. Very strict when grading papers.
I dont understand all of the negative comments on here. She is a great professor. A lot of work in the class and she does have high expectations but that is expected, this is college! She reads every essay draft and gives very good feedback for the next draft. Class participation is KEY! :)
Dr. Huang was an awesome proffesor. She is very strict on deadlines, but just turn your work in on time. 4 essays in a semester but not hard she gives you plenty of time to do them. she is harder the first couple days to weave out the students who arent serious. Never had a boring class. she will keep you awake!
I liked her in the beginning because she had a sense of humor similar to other teachers I've had, but over time she just became annoying. She assigns these online exercises that are a waste of your time. Like others say, she is very strict when it comes to grading papers. I don't recommend her if you want a great professor.
Terrible, just terrible. She is incredibly opinionated and argumentative, and if you think you are a good writer just forget it. She will nit pick everything in your paper including the title. I would highly recommend avoiding her. Class activities can be fun though. There are Pointless online time wasting exercises as well.
Do NOT take her! I use to really like English until I took her class. She has you write a short story and then "revises it" by giving you a whole new story line, stripped away my creativity. & again meaningless online work. Aslo she is super strict about turning things in. To be fair she did have fun class assignments (sometimes)
I hate to be rude or mean because no one deserves to be discouraged but she has been one of the worst professors that I have ever taken. She tells you one thing and then expects you to know that she changed her mind about how she wants something done. Tons of busy work that has no point to it and constant arguing between her and the class.Awful.
Dr. Huang does require a lot from her students, but this only prepares us for upper level classes. There are a lot of online assignments, but they are not hard to do. She expects work to be turned in on time, so just do it, no excuses. This is college.
Great course, terrible instructor. I would take it at a different USG school. She had to beg a minimum of 10 people to register, yet two of those withdrew after the deadline. Yeah. She didn't designate turns during peer-reviews and rewarded those who hogged the airtime! God have mercy if you are 3 or 4 minutes late. Very contrite & knit-picking!
I don't understand why everyone is so negative, Dr. Huang is a great professor! Only 3 essays, and she gives plenty of time to do them and very helpful feedback. She plans great classes, always interactive and never boring! She is very strict on deadlines so just turn assignments in on time, come to class on time, and participate! Great professor!
she's just super strick but so far she is a great teacher
This was a class I was looking forward to taking. In my opinion, the execution was good; however, the professor was not. From the beginning, she did keep her word, found fault where none existed, and was always confused about the obvious. Also, she caused 2 out of 10 students to drop out after the add/drop deadline. Take her class at your own risk.
I practiced my presentation for weeks in her class. Finally when the day has come to give our presentation, she rushed us while we were introducing ourselves. Even I know all presentations should have an introduction and a conclusion. She is a horrible professor.
Dr. Huang has probably been one of my favorite professors so far. She is very strict when it comes to deadlines and attendance, but overall her class is easy. You have 3 essays but she is willing to help you and she gives you adequate time to complete them. There are only a few take home grades. I will def. be taking her class for 1102. HIGHLY REC.
This is my all time favorite class. Criteria is clear. Dr. Huang loves activities that are fun competitive and very involving. It''s so much fun to actually learn in her class. She does NOT take late work. She is helpful. I have learned a lot more than just criteria in her class. This class really opens up opportunity for fun conversations.
She basically just makes up her own grading scale and if she doesn't like you, your grade will reflect it . Shes funny but I am an all A student and I got a low B in her class.
She has a sense of humor but her grading scale is very confusing. She often calls people out in front of class and does not provide enough help in or outside class. If you can avoid her class, please do so..
Tough professor..... please think twice before choosing this class.
Horrible professor
There are lots of contradictions in her instructions. She grades content based on her preference- not correction. If she gives you options for an essay topic, use them. Do not be creative. You can't use or cite sources. You have to make up your own information. Students only participate because she makes everyone compete for participation points.
She's the type of teacher that says, "I don't give 100s, there's always room to improve." Seriously? Why even give rubrics when you won't give a proper grade when all requirements are met. Her picky attitude and poor instruction makes the class much harder than it needs to be. Avoid at all costs!
This professor likes to assign projects that have nothing to do with the class. She also loves to argue and also picks favorites. If she doesn't like, you will fail the class for sure. I always been a A student but thanks to this class my GPA went down. This class is really really really bad , please do not take.
No tests only final, only 3 papers and a couple projects. She makes you work hard for your grade, but if you get on her good side, she will be more leanient with grades.
I've ALWAYS done very well in English; she, unfortunately, made it very hard. She's a tuff grader, she's not very clear on a lot of things (changes what she says often without warning), so when you get papers back expecting a good grade, you'll be in for a shock. Several other things you may have to find out for yourself. Good luck if you do!
My whole life I was told I was a great writer--in fact I even wrote my own screenplay in high school and have always enjoyed writing. However, this all changed when I took her class. She literally makes me feel like an idiot and has taken away the joy in writing for me. I hate to sound rude but she is the worst professor I've ever had.
This was the worst professor I've ever had. She will tell you exactly how to write a paper and you can do just that and still fail. She expects students to be professional writers when this is just a required class. Do not take her
If you do everything she says and make a good first impression, you'll do fine.
Her grading policy is really tough. She will take points of small thing that u missed
She is very picky on how she wants things done. If you follow her directions, you will do fine. There are no tests or quizzes. The only main grades are the essays but you also have homework and other small things that can help your grade. She only assigned 3 papers and they were not difficult once you get started. Not a tough class.
Dr. Huang, while incredibly tough, is one of the best professors I've ever had. She makes you work for your grades, but she's always there to help you improve. She makes herself available & will keep giving you feedback until you get the grade you desire. Her class is also far from boring. She rarely lectures & tries to keep everyone involved.
Avoid her if you can. She's rude and never gives any positive feedback. She critiques everything you do when you turn it in. Only good thing is there's no tests and maybe one or two quizzes that are online. Tough grader but also tells you exactly how she wants things done. Just don't take her.
I would recommend never taking this class ... She grades her essays how she likes and is very rude . She's very unclear about giving instructions and how things should be done . I can honestly say that I haven't learned anything from this class other than it was literally a waste of my time . I repeat ... Don't take this class .
I wouldn't recommend taking ENG1101 with this professor its just extra stress. She's extremely unclear about what she wants, she constantly goes back on what she says, overall isn't a good at teaching she just tells you things and expects you to know what she's talking about, and also is a terrible grader. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
This professor is a tough cookie. She grades to hard based off of what is called "bad english". Some of the time the material you get points off for is actually very useful, but the majority of the time it doesn't seem like you should lose points on a well written essay on the bare fact that you aren't an English major. Save your time. Dont Book!
You must show up to class everyday on time. Assignments aren't long sometimes, but she collects them ass soon as she walks into class. She is the absolute hardest grader on writing assignments, you must follow and use her power-point notes if you want to get a c or above. To be blunt I would take any other ENGL 1101 teacher over her THE WORST
Really enjoyed this class even though she was a tough grader. Felt like it was the most interactive class I have had. She does a good job teaching how to be a good writer. Participation matters greatly, answer questions in class whenever possible!
The class was amazing. I did not get good grades because I did not try hard enough but she's a tough teacher but she really expects you to become a better writer and a better college student.
She is a really harsh grader. If you thought your paper, or homework was good, if your peers thought your paper was good, she probably thinks otherwise. Participate and show up to class or your your grade will go down. I missed a class and she gave me a 73 in attendance. She is sometimes unclear in her directions. Even if you work hard, A's are imp
Dr. Hsi-ling Huang is a fantastic professor. If you are serious about becoming a better writer I higly recomend taking her classes.
Very particular professor . She often does not take the opinions of others as acceptable answers if it does not basically parallel hers . Pros: diverse teaching styles , fun grade booster assignments . Cons: almost impossible to please grading wise , harsh on first couple of assignments . Her course is defined to challenge and push you to be better
She's a very tough grader and doesn't make her standards clear. She can also be very rude and impatient at times. She's not very understanding. She offers extra credit at the end but never counts it.
Let me tell you- This lady is amazing. If you are SERIOUS about your writing career, she will guide your way. She is not an easy grader- you won't get the grade if you do not put in the effort. If you want to breeze on by just for a grade and not learn anything by challenging yourself, then pick someone else. This is what a college course should be
Really enjoy this teacher's style of teaching. She is a published writer and takes pride in her class. She is not afraid of a debate and this Professor makes learning fun with all of her class activities. One of the best Professor's out there!
Dr. Huang is a great professor. She is very clear about her expectations and everything that you need to know is included in her syllabus. The class is structured around anonymous workshops and participation. The workload can seem intimidating at first, but once the class gets rolling, the workload is do-able. I would take another class with her.
This teacher does not like when you are right... She cant help but find something wrong with everything. She is liberal with her ideology but not with her grading. She also tells you she will give extra credit for participating and I didn't get any even after volunteering for extra work in class. Ruthless grader
This proffesor gives tons of homework, and meticulously grades everything. Many people dropped course, she is unreasonable and at times very rude. Be cautious!
Don not take her class if English is your second language. when you write the first draft for each essay she gives you feedback, but even if you fix your errors she will find something else to gives you the as lowest grade as she can i took her class this year and heard everyone says that she did not give them good grade. it is really hard to pass.
When you ask her a question she looks at you like your'e the dumbest person. Extremely tough when grading essays. Her expectations are way too high for being an 1101 class, overall the work isn't hard, but her attidude makes the class horrible.
Dr. Huang is simply amazing, and she takes great pride in her class. Her goal in English 1101 is to prepare each student for advanced academic writing. Show up to each class, participate, turn in all assignments ON TIME. Her to-do list is long, but her syllabus is easy to follow. She has a lovely personality and i truly enjoyed her sense of humor!
lots of presentations. hard grader and rude personality. if you think I am wrong then go see yourself
She's very clear about what she wants from her students ,but she grades very harsh. Nothing is perfect to her. She will find something wrong to point out. She wants and expects perfection from her students. She is a nice lady ,but her rules and guidelines are LAW.
She is a very harsh grader, and the workload is pretty heavy for this class. She has very high expectations, but doesn't really teach you how to correct your errors. She just expects you to go to the AEC.
She pretty much ruined my college experience with her toughness. I probably did everything I could've possibly done to get A for this class but it was way too impossible. She thinks you're only taking her class for your entire semester, she gives you that much of work. We were 28 students when we started and only 4 finished the course. WAY TOUGH!!
OMG!!! I just hated college because of her. She is wayyyyy too tough than needed. Gives you lots of homework. No late submission no matter what!! Everything you do is literally incorrect as per her grading. I studied days and nights but still ended with C. Ugh!!
BAD BAD BAD... Starting the class it was 35 students, ending the class it was 9 students. Don't do it to yourself and if you do, remember this message. Don't say I didn't warn you. She will not help you, she will tell you to ask someone nearby. She doesn't show you how to use the software, she just gives you a list of instructions. BAD BAD BAD...
This lady is very wicked. The course was actually simple(usual engl 1101), but this lady made it look like i am taking PHD english. She looks for fault in everything you do. Example, she didn't take my homework because i did not have a hard cover on it. I got d in her class, i took another class, and i had an A+. That's to show how she's terrible
You dont want this professor at all. She is terrible
She truly is nice, but I don't like her grading style coming from a 1101 class... Essays were a big struggle for me in this class and everything had to be pretty much perfect to get a good grade. I stressed a lot in this class and this class was the only low grade I had out of all of my other classes. Take if you want a challenge.
She is a tough grader, which is respectable but her expectations are way too high. I didn't feel like she cared about developing voice or real writing skills, just producing what is "mainstream" or "marketable." Her approach to writing felt so restrictive and assignments weren't conducive to improving.
This class is like a Ph.D. level English course LOL. You will never get an A or B no matter how much you try. Everybody dropped out, only 5 students finished this class at the end. Why is she not canceled yet?
If you still take her after reading all of these reviews, I don't have anything to say. Good Luck!!
Heres the thing, i really enjoyed her course. She jokes around a bit and gives clear instruction want she wants. She gives lots of feedback to help you understand what she wants. She does give homework but it doesnt take more then an hour to finish becuase its literally ALL from the textbook just make sure you turn things on time! really nice!
She is one of the most discouraging teachers ever. She nit picks everything you do. I am a dual enrollment student and valedictorian for my school, but this class was hard for me. I love writing and she would make me question myself and made me so upset. I would be in tears over this class. The summer course started with 20 people, ended with 6!
Omg, it is the beginning of the semester and I feel I should drop her class or I will fail. she is super hard and doesn't respect her students at all. I should have read the rating before I take her.
I do not suggest taking this class if you like to see rubrics that show why you got points taken off. I also dont suggest this class if you want constructive feedback. If you do end up in this class, my advice to you is to try your best and dont be afraid to speak up. Challenge her opinions and speak your truth if you feel something is unfair.
Not going to be specific within this section. It's simple; if you're reading this save yourself the time, and don't register for this class. If you want to see for yourself by all means waste your time and money registering.
Save yourself the time and dont even bother taking this class all she does is take points off for every little thing and be careful if you get on her bad side youre most likely going to fail the way she teaches and grades is just terrible tbh I never thought I would have to write a bad review on Rate my professor but hear me out !!
I will NEVER take her class again. She was the worst teacher I ever had. If there was lower than awful I would give it to her. She helps with nothing not even homework she assigns. If you have a question she will tell you to go to tutoring instead of helping. I wouldn't even suggest her to my enemy.
A lot of my classmates did not like that she is a harsh grader, but in no way is her grading unfair. The way she grades is honest to the amount of effort you put in. There is a lot of busy work but it boosts your grade and is easy. She teaches with activities that will wake you up and have you moving around the classroom. If you slack you wont pass
If you aren't good at English or prepared to give every essay 100% effort, don't take her class. She grades hard, but if you look at her feedback you'll come to understand why you got the grade you did even if you don't like it. Come at every essay with an open mind and a willingness to learn. Warning: the short story essay will break you mentally.
This is my 2nd time taking Dr. Huang's class! She has every assignment posted from day 1. If it's late, that's on you. Every paper you write is a revise and edit process. Write the paper and she and 2 peers will give feedback for you to edit. There's a group project where you'll teach the class for 20 minutes. Pay attention, and you'll pass.
She is a eye opener when it comes to professors heading your work and I urge anybody taking her class to not slack and really focus. Listen to every thing she says and double check everyday that you work is complete. She will be a harder grader than your other classes. But She is nice to people who she see puts in effort so put in lots of effort.
Difficult to work with, would never give clear critiques and the ones that were clear were absurd and accomplished by no one. Instructions were fairly clear but always graded harshly over benign things making getting an A in the class an uphill battle. Hardly encouraging, always critical, lamented that no student had sympathy for her. 0/10.
This class was the worst class I have ever taken. She is the hardest grader ever and ever little thing matters. I had an A in English 1101 and then I took her and I got a C. I hardly made it in this class and out of all the classes I took this semester I worked the hardest in this class and it was still my worst class. DO NOT TAKE!
Shes so unreasonably strict, even a mistake by submitting a wrong document she wont grade it. Won't even let you make up anything, little things bothers her. Treats students like they're some dumb humans. Her tone is so angry and strict i doubt you will feel happy in her class everyday.
Belittling, Irritating, Terrible, inConsiderate, Hellish
She is the absolute worst professor. She expects you to know everything with no type of direction. She is not a professor who is willing to help you. You have a better chance of going to the AEC tutors for actual help. She is very rude and has a smart mouth if you have a simple question.
Lord knows how I passed this class with an A. VERY TOUGH GRADER but provides good feedback. Attendance and participation are must! There are a total 3 essays and reading assignments and grammar exercises. Once your image is bad in her mind then .... lord help you because she is WEIRD. Instructions are clear. She wants all the things IN her way.
This is the worst teacher i've ever had.. don't take her for your own sanity. She told us she takes pride in failing her student because she thinks it means she's a stern teacher..she's just bad. refuses to meet outside of class, awful at explaining things, reports you first and doesn't allow you to help yourself. Will NOT help you.dont take her
I enjoyed Dr. Huang's class! She is a very tough grader. People didn't do well in my class because they didn't read her instructions. Dr. Huang has all of the assignments and instructions posted from day one, and they are very clear. Make sure you show up to class and put in effort cause she notices and will be nicer to those that she sees trying.
Do not take this teacher. She is the worst person I've ever encountered. She said "I take pride in failing people." I got the flu and missed 2 days of class. She would not allow me to make up any of my work. She has no compassion for anyone. I don't know how she is a teacher. She should be fired and stripped of her teaching license.
She doesn't really give you feedback, she also lacks sympathy and understanding. She rarely lectures, her communication is unbearable. Things she could do better: make her instructions clearer, communicate better and gives feedback.
This professor is incredibly tough, but engaging with her system can pay off. Stay focused, use resources like unstuck study, and you might just pull through with a good grade despite the challenges.
First of all, she is a horrible professor I am not even sure how she still even has a job here at (GGC). She is not caring/understanding at all. Do not take her unless she is your last absolute choice
Fun class games and team activities, but grading was way too harsh for a remedial English 1101 Summer course. Tons of essays, quizzes, AND group projects. Feedback was helpful if you were already doing well, but not very patient or encouraging toward struggling students. Be ready to work hard!
