Dr. Song really knows how to teach the class. He is very enthusiastic during lectures. His quizzes are very straightforward and you will be guaranteed an A while enjoying all the fun if you take his class. He loves to joke and often excuses students with regards to sickness, job interviews, etc... I would definitely recommend this professor.

The reason why the University of Calgary is renowned for its outstanding and prestigious engineering program is because of professors like Dr. Jackie Song. I truly learned so much in this class that it makes real life work experience (internship) look like a joke.

Dr. Song uses a tonne of positive reinforcement to really help students understand the material. His quizzes are a tad hard, but if you study hard, you can easily get 100%. Though, his midterm was so easy, I would rather swallow glass. Overall great. Would definitely recommend for any students looking to learn and get high marks.

Hua Song is one of the best profs around. His teaching skills is impeccable and his midterms are easy and reasonable - easily doable in half the allotted time. I recommend taking this class if you want an easy A and a good time in your final year.

very good communication between tutorial and lectures. You can tell this professor has put in a lot of work in designing this course despite it's his first year teaching it. Definitely worth getting up at 7AM to attend his 8AM lectures!

I nominated Dr. Song for a teaching excellence award this year because I have never seen a teacher so dedicated to his students. I`m glad he decided to conduct his research at UofC instead of MIT because us students are really lucky to have him. No amount of Hua is better than the Song... think about it....

Dr Hua Song is very smart and he teaches with lots of enthusiasm but at the same time very fit. I see Dr. Song in the gym all the time trying to exceed his already aesthetic physique. I think he deserves more titles than any profs at U of C including Leo Behie. He should the China Research Chair aka FRCC aka twinmuscle workout aka aka BBCs.

Dr. Song is in my humble opinion, incomparable to any other professor at the university. He will make sure you learn the material and learn it well. He has taught me that the sum of the hua, equals the song, in most engineering applications. This is a life lesson I will carry with me always...

ENCH505 is a boring class but Dr Song made it legendary. He uses the MIT teaching techniques combined with Sun Tzu's Art of War and the Tao of Badass combined with Neil Strauss's "The Game" as well as Shua's Miss Universe Training which makes class very realistic. Much better than any internship or work experience.

Humidification chapter really opened my mind as to how chemical engineering really is. It is because of Dr. Song that made me realize I had the passion and potential to pursue a post graduate degree in humidification. In the near future, I hope to develop such a powerful centralized humidifier that it'll make Calgary look like Vancouver year round.

Dr.Song is an excellent prof with intelligence, passion and lots of charm. But of course, these could not be accomplished without his yellow sweater that he wears to class on a daily basis. I personally ordered one on eBay just to match him.

A lot of people will say Dr. Song is a bad prof. But those are also the individuals who are not willing to put in the work to excel. This course is not a walk in the park, nor is it extremely difficult. Do the work, listen to what the professor has to say, and you'll ace the course like I did. Overall, I give Dr. Song a 9.5/10.

Dr. Song is the epitome of what a great prof really is. He is the fountain of social knowledge. I also used to be a fountain... but a fountain of social awkwardness. Dr. Song has helped me move away from that and now, I am very outgoing. Dr. song saved my life... and I think the Lord for blessing us with this amazing professor !

I second the statement that Dr. Song is flexible with excusing students when necessary. Mid way through the semester, I unfortunately developed balls palsy. The pain was so bad, it hurt from the second joint of my spine all the up to the base of my skull so I couldn't write the midterm. Dr. Song deferred it and as a result, I got an A!

This class is a breeze... If you just study the equations that he clearly stated, in his TEACHING NOTES, you will find that most students will receive a letter grade equivalent to the Greek alphabet ARR-PHA. He will emphasize only the important points, while saying "blah blah blah" about the irrelevant things as a sign of disregard. 10/10!!

Dr. Song is a very polite. I felt so bad for him because people at the end of the semester started walking out on his class and he almost cried. Show some respect for this amazing professor!

Dr Hua is an excellent prof. He teaches not only through his TEACHING NOTES, but also by setting as an example as he applies course concepts to his daily activities. He wore a yellow sweater- which turned gray the following lecture.The only explanation to this is that the sweater was subjected to humidification,absorption and then crystallization.

What a great way to end the semester! Dr. Song taught us that we should never question the authority (ie. the question) and when in doubt, always question yourself. At first I was skeptical, but when I applied this to my final exam, I got an A!! Best professor in the UofC!

Dr. Song made this class so interesting. I was on the verge of switching majors after my internship, but professors like Dr. Song has re-convinced my passion for chemical engineering. I was in the verge of failing the final exam. However, during the moment of absolute despair and helplessness, Dr Song's quote enlightened me. "Do not question THE QUESTION, but rather question yourself." Applying this knowledge to the final exam allowed me to answer Questions 1,2,3 and 4 with relative ease. I definitely aced it. A++!

He told us the exact questions that were going to be on the final. Too easy. Easy A.

Dr. Song is a Godsend. His lectures are unparallel. He does not think when he teaches, but goes with the flow. Best professor at the university of calgary by far. pray you get him next semester.

I am in oil and gas engineering, but when I heard how good he was, I stopped going to ENCH 501 entirely and started attending ENCH 505 lectures just so I can listen to this prof. Thing is, I'm not even registered in ENCH 505!!!

I was at a conference where Hua gave a presentation on advanced membrane filtration and asymptotic analysis on humidification algorithms. It was eye opening! His revolutionary concepts will play an important role in the coming years to help push separation processes to the next level. You will learn all about it in this course. Highly recomnend!

Dr. Song's challenging and completely reasonable tests are a treat that I look forward to everyday. He has reminded me how much I love the challenge of Chemical Engineering and why I chose this degree in the first place. I'm honoured to have the privilege of finishing my last year with one of the best courses I've ever taken.

I lost my motivation to study when I broke up with my ex-girlfriend Dasoo who was a contestant of Miss Universe 2014. Dr. Song helped me through thick and thin during that period; most importantly, his inspiring words made me realize that Dasoo was using me the whole time. Not only is Dr. Song a great prof but also a true friend. Would Recommend!

Dr. Song's quizzes are a tad hard at times, but if you study, you can easily get 100%. One time, the class average was 95%. He was so giddy, he bought us all honey cruulers from Jim Hortons. From this moment, my ONLY motivation to try hard is to receive more honey cruulers for future tests. This as a result amplified my learning. Best prof ever!

Don't skip class! he often gives back free marks on quizzes and midterms in lectures. This guy gets that 4th year is tough with design and tries his best to make our lives easier.

Dr. Song told us before the test that "you will laugh at it". We did laugh... because it was so tough that nobody could finish it. But through mistakes comes learning. He has a very unique teaching style that you won't notice until the course has finished. And don't worry about the marks, it gets standarized and everyone gets A's and A-. GPA boost.

Dr. Song's great teaching ability came from his family. I was fortunate enough to listen to his brother Dr. Aboorvanathan speak. I didn't know how they were related until the similar teaching method struck me. Dr. Song's last name is his brother's first name which makes him Song Aboorvanathan, a tradition in the family. Highly recommend both!

I remember a couple years ago when Dr. Song asked me to help him with his paper on Chrystallization Condensate Behavior. As a thank you, he invited me to his house for hot pot. But at the last minute he decided not to have me, which made me a little bHurt. But his great teaching skills definitely made up for that. In fact he is my favorite prof.

Not only Dr. Song is a genius in process engineering but also in reservoir simulation. My fourth year project was a mess until Dr. Song came to my rescue and told me that my reservoir shouldn't be in a shape of a chair. He also told me serendipitously that I was putting my foot in my mouth with false information. What an amazing prof!

I went to Houston a month ago for a conference, and I was so surprised to see Dr. Man on the horse there. However upon further inspection, it turned out to be some one else. As a result, this means that he is the best prof ever!

Hua Song's superior knowledge and the ability to convey that back to his students is of rare occasion. In fact, he was asked to replace Dr. Jeje as Associate Head. But humble Hua turned it down. I asked him why and he said:" Do not question the question but question yourself." As a result, he is the best prof!

ENCH 505 was a tough class but Dr. Song made it even tougher by challenging us to our extremes. I never really liked him but after I started my job, I realized that he was instructing us not just the course material but also in life. I often quoted him and followed his footsteps to achieve excellence therefore becoming strongest version of myself

Dr. Song is one of the best profs out there. He grades fair and everyone gets A's. I was so thankful for the A, I took him ice fishing the other day. I managed to catch a 5.1lbs burbot and gave it to him. He was so giddy, he bought me multiple honey cruulers! Best prof ever! He will go out of his way to maintain a lasting relationship with you!

Part of Dr. Jackie's success can be credited to his TA staff. His TA's are very accommodating. During one of the quizzes, my schulich calculator once ran out of batteries, so the TA let me use my phone to do my quiz. Epic!

Class is almost over and dr Song puts the extra effort in and out of class. You'll find him either working out or figuring out ways to make the course even more challenging.

The best prof I have had so far! His TEACHING NOTES are concise and to the point, no useless information to confuse you. He has a quirky sense of humour that tickles me pink. He is always open to help you and will even forgive mistakes on certain quizzes to help boost your mark! PICK THIS GUY WHENEVER CAN! YOU WONT REGRET IT!

Dr. Song is hands down the best professor I have EVER had. I had taken two thermo courses and still did not understand the concept of entropy, but Dr. Song explained everything with unbelievable clarity and detail. His lectures are extremely helpful too since he quite literally circles and underlines every important concept that he will test.

If there is 1 word I would describe Jackie, it's that he cares! I was at one point looking to do pro bono consulting on skill based networks, and he connected me with one of his industry colleagues and I got a job right away! Other causes Hua cares about: health, civil rights and social action, economic empowerment, povrty alleviation, health.

Jackie is THE MAN!!! Not only is he an amazing prof, he also works as a guidance councillor part-time. I have learned more life lessons from him this man than I have learned throughout my life. He may look small on the outside, but he has a big heart. A+ Professor.

One of the best professors at the university. Material is present clearly and with enthusiasm. Any class with Norm is a guaranteed A provided you are willing to put the effort in. Everything you need is given to you. He also is great on a personal level and is the first person to talk to if you have any questions about the program.

Hua is an amazing tutor! Very kind and helpful! I missed a lab once due to illness, and he used his own personal time to meet up in order to teach me what I missed in class, and gave me all the notes. Jackie is a dedicated and punctual prof who cares about his students. The course is very difficult plus he doesn't post any solution to practice, but it indeed encourages us to solve EVERY SINGLE problem. Excellent at replying emails, and ready to help you out anytime. He's a good guy who is willing to help. Bombed the first two quizzes but I went to get help from him and he gave me good advice on how to approach the class. Ended up getting a good mark on the midterm and final. His lectures are dry, but coming to class and asking questions after really helps. But a lot of work has to be put in to get a good mark.

Dr. Hua is actually a really good prof. He genuinely cares for his students and is willing to stay as late as possible trying to help you. Easy prof to get marks back on a test. If you just paid attention in class you can learn a lot. You want to get on his good side though...

I recently graduated from the University of Calgary but was laid off due to harsh economic conditions. But I thought of Dr Song's teachings to never give up in life. Therefore, I went and started my own company. Now i'm on the board for 3 software companies, 4 private equities and 5 hedge funds all thanks to Dr. Song. Recommend!

Never have I felt more eager to learn, motivated and successful in my studies. Dr. Gua is an amazing professor. You can't ask for someone better, trust me. I failed engg 319 twice and both profs were the reason I got F's. I couldn't understand any of the material... that is until I had Dr. Gua Song. He truly knows how to convey the material in a way everyone can understand. Very helpful prof. He is very clear with his lectures and teaching notes and he will address any questions you have outside and inside the classes. Course was average in terms of difficulty but Dr. Hua makes it easy. I highly recommend him for anyone who wants to take his course. It an easy A.

Pretty straight forward. You just have to go to class and review his TEACHING NOOTES and you'll pass the midterm and final with relative ease. People who are downgrading this professor are simply lazy. You have to work for your marks.

Another great semester with Mr. singSONG-badabinglong and another A+ for this guy. When I landed my first job in my professional career, all the research team in that department knew who he was. He is truly revolutionary in the field of separating fluids. If you get Hua Song, you are lucky. Pray you don't get JEJE. This guy way better IMO.

Did you ever hear the tragedy of Jackie the Wise? I thought not. It's not a story the Haskayne would tell you. It's a Engg legend. Jackie was a prof of Engg, so powerful and so wise he could use the Lecture to influence the students to create A+s. He had such a knowledge of the dark side that he could even keep the ones he cared about from dying.

wOw doctor song is just the best. this man cracks Pretty funny and relevant jokes. the class is totally not focused on how fast you can Press your calculator. there's nO way he juSt stands In front of his slides and monologues. and he definiTely gives tEsts that can be finished in the time allotted.

Dr. Jackie is truly one of the best professors in my humble opinion. He pushes for a very interactive class environment and if you raise your hands to participate your learning will excel greatly. The concepts in this class are truly applicable in real life work and he teaches them in a digestible manner. Highly recommend for future career growth.

Dr. Hua Song is one of the finest professors ever to grace the halls of the SSE. One time a student forgot their lunch and Dr. Song was kind enough to take them out for a TREAT, when he found out the student was in need of a kidney transplant, he went as far as offering his own. 10/10 good guy.

Dr. is a good professor. One big problem with his lectures is he doesn't do enough practice problems. This class is hard, you are going to have to dedicate extra time into understanding the questions. Going to tutorials is so important but students are just lazy and then complain when they don't understand the concepts right away.
