One of the better Accounting teachers at UNF.Gives bonuses and test curves.
He gives alot of work but if you try and study the material he gives then you should be fine.
Makes several mistakes when teaching, jumps around, has a foreign accent, seems very arrogant. Still, is very lenient, caring, accomodating. Learn from the book, and take advantage of his extra credit to score high.
accent is annoying, jumps around too much when lecturing, nice and helpful only if approached outside of class
He is the worst professor I have ever had. When you ask for help, he doesn't stop to help...just keeps on going. If you don't have a background in accounting, don't count on doing well. He knows his stuff, but doesn't know how to teach it.
very snotty and unhelpful and difficult
Need to be prepared in class. He likes to ask questions. Teaches slow at beginning, faster afterward. Give lots of homework. He is pretty fine.
this guy was the reason i changd my major!! Avoid him...esp. in this course!
I hated this guy. The only good thing he did was put us in groups, and I got in a group with 3 others who were dedicated, and we met every weekend to study, where we basically taught ourselves. He is unorganized, and wastes a LOT of time during lectures
I took him for financial and managerial accounting. He went too fast and his tests were extremely hard. I ended up chaning my major after that.
BAD teacher He has like a 50% drop rate--enough said!!
Everyone hates this guy but I thought the class was extremely easy, and I hate everything that has to do with Accounting, Business, and numbers. He doesn't try to fail people and he wants everyone to understand.
Worst professor I have ever had. Doesn't know how to teach. Begining of the semester he got behind, then he had to catch up teaching way to fast which was bad news. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
Hard class, good teacher...he does move fast but he relies on you to do studying outside of class...only way to pass is to use your own time to look over material.
Worst professor I've ever had. Expects you to already have some kind of background in accounting (which I certainly didn't) and moves way too fast. I ended up dropping his class, along with about 3/4 of the people who were in my class to begin with. Do not take this prof!
This class is very hard! You have to put a lot of time and effort into this class! I have done all the quizzes and test and everything and have tried my hardest and I am barely passing with a C! Take this class if you only have like 1 or 2 other classes and a lot of free time on your hands!
TESTS ARE COMPLETELY HARD HE DOESN'T MAKE ANTHING EASY AND HIS COMPUTER PROJECTS ARE FOR ACCOUNTING MAJORS NOT JUST FOR PEOPLE WHO NEED TO TAKE THE CLASS TOWARD THERE DEGREE DONT TAKE HIM OVER HALF THE CLASS DROPPED AND 5 OUT OF THE 14 LEFT FAILED
I took him for financial and managerial. I made a C- in financial and failed managerial...and I'm an accounting major! Too much work to turn in, really difficult tests, and extensive projects. On top of that, he's not very nice.
This class with Gill was a crushing disappointment. To be fair, he does know his stuff. However, loads of homework, projects, and assignments are demanding. If you want a challenge, this Jamaican is for you.
never ever take hime. 50% of the students dropped him before add drop. I got out becuase his test were extremely hard and long. Would have to be a genius to pass his class. Computer project took forver and was extremely hard. So was extra credit
The hardest accounting teacher ever, please if you care about your GPA don't take this class. He is not helpful and test are extremely terrible.
He reads his numbers backwards. He's not very caring! I missed a test due to a car accident and he could care less. Don't take him!
I thought Gill was a decent Accounting teacher. He definately knows his stuff but sometimes he isnt very clear about what he wants. His tests are not really that hard if you study.I had him for financial and got an A. I will be getting an A in managerial as well. Just study the material, not hard.
Gill isn't exactly easy but he expects alot out of students. Betty Saunders is a better choice but if do some hard work in Gill's class you can come out alright. He does care so don't listen to this BS from the other posts...
He gives A LOT of work, but he just wants you to understand. He holds help/review sessions which are helpful, and he always moves the due date so you have extra time to work on projects/HW.He covers the whole book and goes over it really fast in class, you have to actually do the HW to understand it
i got a B in both...its not really that hard, just make sure you do i your work & if you need help stop by his office (for the project, he will tell you where you have gone wrong and help you correct it), if you cannot get through these classes you should change your major to education...
He was the worst teacher i ever had at unf and he sounds like a male miss cleo.
dont take this guy!!!
it sucks
Yeah, this jack*** knows his accounting, but does he know how to teach it? NO! He thinks you know everything just by reading the chapter, which is complicated in itself. He expects too much and has the most horrible accent. He's very apathetic towards his students, doesn't curve and could care less if you fail. Do not take him, he's horrible!
dont take him
Gill is not as bad as everyone says, but he does have a hard class. The class is group based from the very first day, so your commitment of the group determines your grade.
professor gill is a nice person, even sometimes funny... but if you're looking to pass even remotely easily DON'T TAKE HIM. this was by far my hardest college class to date. his teaching style is confusing and the tests are nearly impossible to complete. not to mention the exhausting group projects required of you. i'd chose someone else.
He is helpfull, if you seek help. If you are capable of learning, your best shot is a C.
I had this guy my first semester at UNF....there has been NO OTHER professor that is as tough as he is. Once you're done with Gill, all other classes seem like CAKE. I found him very fair, but tough. Very tough. VERY VERY TOUGH. Spend most of your study time studying for HIS class because you can't B.S. your way through ANY of his stuff.
I had a great experience in this class, there is a big project and several test losts of homework and quizes. I can tell you now if you don't plan on spending lots of time studying, reading and practicing take someone else........you can easily fall behind if you miss class. I got a B+ and learned a lot!!!!! Good luck
This class is so hard! His tests and projects are ridiculous! It's hard to understand him and impossible to read his handwritting. Taking notes will hardly help you! Study the book and program everything into your calculator, and MAYBE with a LOT of luck and if you are a genius, you MIGHT come out with a C. This one chick going for her MBA dropped
He teaches like he is speaking to peers who already know what he's talking about. VERY disorganized. Errors on every exam and it will take him all semester to fix grades because of errors. Stay away if possible. Take this class right after Fin Acct, don't wait!!
lotts of work but if you do it you will understand and get a good grade. Don't fall behind and start early on the projects.
Good professor, really knows the material, but doesn't always explain it the best. Moves relatively slow at the beginning but then speeds through the end so if you don't grasp concepts quickly don't take him. Always willing to help if you go to his office outside of class. Tests are hard, but he'll give back to redo for more points Would take again
You can do a lot worse the Gilbert when it comes to your first Accounts course. I bailed out of my first acc's course, but with Gilbert if you stick to the programme, do the work assigned, and the projects (albeit tidious) you get the grades. He explains the concepts well and aprovides lots of extra credit oppurtunities max the extra points
This guy is terrible. I have never had such a hard time understanding a teacher. He can't even do basic adding/subtracting/etc. So he can't teach accounting right. Just be prepared to teach yourself. Unless you know a real accountant. It's really know wonder because he graduated from EWC, and if you live in Jax, you know what I mean.
Accounting is hard no matter what. Gill isnt any harder than anyone else at unf. Do all the bonus and show up to all the reviews and you should be able to skim by. Be prepared to do well on the first couple of tests because it only gets harder.
Offers ample extra credit
WORST TEACHER EVER!! Projects are RIDICULOUS!!! I would study for about 15 hours a week, and I STILL FAILED!! Hard to understand, moves WAY TOO fast!! I only know of a few people that passed!!! AVOID this teacher!!!
Absolute worst teacher I have ever and will ever have. Offers no help and simply mock and ridicules students instead.
terrible tests!! Projects are very long and indepth. Very unorganized by far the worst teacher I have had. Don't get him
If you are majoring in accounting, take Gill. If not, take someone else. His class is challenging and involves online HW and quizzes made by the book company, but it teaches the important concepts of accounting. I had no clue about accounting going into this class and made an A. It took work, but now i understand what i'm doing in higher classes.
This is a tough course but Dr Gill provides a lot of study guides on blackboard that help prepare for the exams. There is a ton of online homework and online quizzes but if you do them, they will help your grade and will prepare you for the exams. Do all your homework and study. He is always available for help. Class is hard but fair.
Let's put it this way: If you can manage to pass this guy's class, you can pass anything at UNF. The course starts out very slow but picks up at an insane pace around mid-terms. Be prepared to devote a considerable amount of time to this class - complete all online quizzes and homework. Most importantly, study the book hard.
Lots of time involved!! Online HW, Quizzes, in class quizzes, long exams have to work fast in order to complete exam in the time given.
This class is terrible. Starts off very slow, but then he kicks it in gear and keeps moving. Does not clearly answer your questions and basically very late on grades. Don't take him
This class was very hard. He likes to trick you on the exams and doesn't reply to e-mails. When you ask him a question he will be rude and make fun of you if you do NOT know the answer. He will offer extra credit and will not give you the points at the end of the semester. I have had many professors in college and he is the worst overall!
Do not recommend, go for Tanner
Avoid him at all costs. His objective in life is to fail the whole class. His test and quizes are hard and have nothing to do qith the homework. If you seek his help he will treat you like if you were supposed to know everything about acct already.
Most people on this page must think college is supposed to be full of finger painting and underwater basket-weaving... I have Gill right now and he is very helpful and knows the subject. I am not even sure if I am going to pass, but if for some reason I don't, I am going to take Gill again next semester. The class is HARD but, hey, it's college.
Don't even think about taking him if you wanna pass this class.
terrible teacher...lectures nearly incomprehensible....awful projects throughout the semester that are terribly time consuming, yet count for like 1/3 of a test..dont take
This class was very difficult. Some exams were take-home and others in class. Homework is done through a Homework Manager online and quizes through Blackboard. He does not prepare you a lot for the Excel Assignments. Just study the material, pay attention in class, and take notes to easily get a B or higher.
God, I hated this class. Extremely stressful and Gill just made matters worse. He tries he really does, but he rarely succeeds in making the concepts any clearer. If anything, he makes the subject more confusing than it should be. I withdrew from this class the first time and passed w/ a B the 2'nd. Avoid Gill if you can. Take anyone else.
The subject is tough, but Dr Gill is a good teacher. If you are a lazy cry baby, switch majors now because this isn't the only hard business class. But if you are a serious college student and want to make it in the business world, this is the class for you. Go to every class, ask questions, and study and you'll do just fine.
He really wants his students to do well. Its a difficult subject, but he made it easier for us to understand. His tests arent too bad (multiple choice,T/F,& a few written problems).Bb quizzes you can retake as much as you'd like.He offers a few extra credits. He curves the grades. And made 3 of our 5 exams take-home to help improve our grades.Take Him!!
Coulldn't stand the class
I'm the one that wrote a good review about this teacher in Nov. 2008. I would like to let you all know not to take him after all. Everything I said in the last review is true, but he made his final impossible. The class average on the final was a 115/200 which is a 57.5%.He also said he would give us a bonus after the final, but didn't.I'm so mad!!
Lousy teacher. don't except to pass without spending 7000 hours a week! take someone else who cares about teaching you the concepts so you can pass the final. My friend had Tanner and spent less time than me and got a B.
This guy is so pretentious it hurts! Run away. Take Saunders (first choice) or Tanner (second choice) instead.
I took Gill last semester for Financial Accounting and got an A-. I thought he was a fine prof and often found myself defending him... until the final exam. Course is fine, tests, hw, quizzes aren't bad, however, BEWARE GILL'S FINAL EXAM. I got a 75 on the final and had high 80's low 90's on other exams. He does not prepare you for the final.
If you try your hardest you'll pass. Gill is reasonable, makes you work and actually learn. The final is hard, but as long as your grade is strong to withstand the bad grade you will still pass, because he goes off of a point system. Do the HW, and do your best on the BB quizzes. Go to class regularly so that he knows your face.
this class made me crazy.. he doesnt give notes.. instead he lectures..and asks the class what the answer to the problems are.. how would we know? we are just learning it.he is unclear on due dates, and changes the assignments/requirements all the time.he can be insulting also, i did more work4 this class than any other&it is my lowest grade at unf
Prof. Gill lectures as though he is lecturing all Fianace majors.I worked my but of in this class and barely made a C.He was very inconsistent with coursework. I recommend taking this class by itself or with a class that requires little time. I had to drop a class to keep up with this one. Be prepared to eat, sleep, and breath ACG.
I do not recommend Prof. Gill. He was always very unclear with his instructions. We did not stick to the syllabus whatsoever; we got way behind and as a result we had to cram 8 weeks' worth of the most difficult coursework into 5 weeks. I am an A student and worked extremely hard and only got a B+ because of his poor teaching skills.
he is very unclear and hard to follow. he does not follow the syllabus and changes dues dates and test dates constantly. i would not recommend taking him for any class.
I personally do not recommend this teacher. He is very informative with his lectures, but his assignments, tests, and exam might make you fall apart. Some people like strict teachers, but for this one I would avoid. If you can, take any other ACG teacher than him. He has no problem with failing you if he wants to.
Had this guy for financial and managerial. In his examples, he always screws up the math and you end up being incredibly confused. Advice? Do the homework, all of it. But I couldn't tell you how to get an A. Keep track of your grades, he also messes those up too occasionally. Don't go into this class expecting to have fun.
This was a very challenging course, mainly because the professor was never clear on what he expected from his students. Not very organized and doesn't explain content very well, but expects students to know everything! I worked very hard to get a B, and I'm an A student! It was a very frustrating course. Avoid his class if you can...
Get ready to eat sleep and breath accounting....Gill is very messy...He constanly makes mistakes and confuses you but wont allow you to make any... He is a very good guy whn u start to fall behind go to him and let him know that u dont understand and continue to do so....This is NOT a easy A.
Took him for both Financial and Managerial. Be ready to teach yourself the course material via the book. There is no other way. He makes frequent mistakes, assumes everyone understands when no one really does, and overall is noneffective. His tests, and especially the final were made by a different ACG professor who didn't even use a textbook.
Where to start. The tests started out as in class tests, and slowly the tests become take home tests. He said that attendance was mandatory but he stopped taking attendance about halfway through. There are quizzes on the homework. His wording, and explaining of concepts is sometimes very hard to comprehend. Made me change change majors. So boring.
he sucks. he knows nothing about accouting, he is constantly making mistakes and will mess up your grade. final has nothing to do with what he teaches, bc he doesnt make it there is no curve. both of my parents are CPAs and they even said some of the problems are impossible because he doesnt give you the info to solve it. AVOID HIM IF YOU CAN!!!!
Pretty much what other people said
This is a hard class either way... I think everyone is being a little hard on him. The subject material is difficult but I wouldnt be able to do well if I didn't go to class. Obviously he's teaching something. He also gives you hw that corresponds to the material. Don't take this class if you dont want to work for it.
If you are looking for a class, that no matter how hard you try, you will ultimately fail anyway, the Gill has a lot to offer you! I wake up early (7:30) to get to his 8:30 "office hours", which i go to more than he does. WASTE OF TIME. Also, your emails will be completely ignored, he doesn't care. he doesn't write the final, but it is 22% of grade
I can understand the frustration radiating off Professor Gill's rating page, but I don't feel its fair to blame him entirely. I was able to make an A because I supplemented his lecture and homework with a plethora of additional resources on the book website.Dedication is key to this class, and what a professor adds should just be considered a gift.
Impossible.
Extremely hard to get an A in this class. Worked my butt off and had to withdraw by the withdrawal deadline because it was just too stressful. Class started out with about 50 kids and by the time the semester was almost over, only 19 remained. wonder why...
People are being unfair on Prof. Gill. He teaches the material well but you actually have to study outside of class. The tests are hard and the homework is easy. Do work and don't expect to have your hand held.
One of Gill's strongest ponts is his unmatched enthusiam for the material! His examples and little rhymes will play over and over in your head when you read the chapters. He is not terrible like everyone says, but you have to employ ALL of the resources available. He thinks testing on what he has taught on in class is redundant.Learn to love him.
Half the people who have commented can't even spell, therefore cannot pass this class. Yes, it's hard and requires a lot of work but if you do the work you'll get an A.
Terrible professor, avoid at all cost. You will never past the class, it is very hard and he is a terrible professor. He doesn't teach you anything. AVOID HIM!
Don't take his class, it is impossible to pass it. He is terrible, he does not curve and makes your life miserable. DON'T TAKE HIM!!
He is the most unhelpful teacher in the Business college. He never shows up to his office hours even if you email him. You can study for days and still fail an exam. Do not take this class with him.
Please listen to these comments. I took hours and hours of my time to do the homework to try to understand the lessons but it didn't help. It is test after test after test. His lessons during class are horrible. He thinks everybody understands accounting. He is absolutely horrible. Do not take his class......
Here's a perfect summation of this class. Some girl made a tiny mistake mixing up two accounts on a test.. She asked him why couldn't she get partial credit. (fair enough, but gets turned down by most teachers, but the answer Gill gave is the kicker) .. he said "Well in the real world you would go to jail for that" takes it way to seriously
I never took a finance class before and was a freshmen. Ended up with an A in the class but had to read every chapter before tests to get a good grade. Many people drop out but if you work hard i think it is no problem.
First time posting on here, it is needed. Gill is not a bad guy just an awful professor. The information is numbers based and he makes it word based. His questions are not clear and says no even though what you answered is then what he says is right. It is so annoying. Think about dropping if you are not a self learner. Good luck.
Extremely tough professor. Make sure you take an easy course load with this class because it will take up most of your time. Be prepared to eat, drink, and dream accounting.
This is not a super hard class. The most important thing is to read the book, take notes and make note cards. If you are a good student and committed to making a good grade then is class will not be a problem. So far I got a 96 on the first test and a 98 on the midterm.
Seriously, take someone else for Accounting. He may be a good accountant, but he's a horrible professor. I could not understand him at all & ended up withdrawing after the mid-term. Exams are confusing and so are assignments. Now, I see that he's not kidding about the 50% drop rates of his classes. I would NEVER recommend him to anyone, ever.
Gill has been teaching this course for a long time and expects students to learn what he is teaching quickly. He has another job as a cpa so he is very busy. Quick on returning grades, curves a lot, and gives a lot of extra credit later in the course, But this class will be challenging and you must be fully prepred and not fall behind.Good teacher
I got a B+ in this class, and it wasn't remotely related to his proficiency as a teacher. He was rude, unclear, and his exams were not reflective of the material covered in class. You must read the book if you want to have a shot at passing the test, and do the online homework. A good accountant does not make a good accounting professor.
Prof. Gill is a great teacher. He seeks to bring out your inner common sense. He says from the start, if you are not willing to apply yourself and read the book there is little hope for you. He teaches fast, so don't be left behind. Be prepared to participate. If you are a student who WANTS to learn, his class is the one to be in.
DO NOT TAKE Prof Gill. The class is semi-interesting, he makes the material relatively understandable. The excel portions are very difficult as well as the exams/tests. He grades really hard. Take someone else- save yourself a ton of time and anguish.
I had the pleasure of taking his course twice, unfortunately. At first I thought he was awful but the second time around was much better. The course is tough and honestly the excel portion with another teacher is the worst part. If you take your time to learn the homework the tests are cake. Pay attention and get on his good side and your golden
AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! I took him because his was the only one available when my time ticket came up (that should have been a red flag) and it was awful. He's extremely confusing and expects a ton of work on the tests. Half the class ended up dropping before the Midterm and I withdrew right after. His class is IMPOSSIBLE.
Professor Gill is seriously underrated. He gives you TONS of extra credit and teaches the material right from the book. His tests cover a wide variety of material but they are very straightforward with the homework and what he discusses in class. If you study, you will do VERY well in his class.
First exam I got a B, second an A, and third a 99! Three tests to go, but he gives tons of extra credit. Stay in the course and you'll survive.
Professor Gill has no idea how to teach. He understands things well and is very intelligent, but has no idea how to convey ideas or explain complex things. My biggest pet peeve was that before exams he would tell us that a chapter wasn't going to be on the exam, but it would be included anyway! It is hard to know what to study for with him.
hands down the woste teacher at UNF. Moves quickly, acts like you should know everything because hes been doing it for years and years. exams are killer and the class average is horrible. If you took this professor you made a big mistake.
This professor is terrible. He insults his students, is unclear on his instructions, and is difficult to understand through his accent. I learned almost nothing in his class, learned everything by doing the homework and reading the book. AWFUL PROFESSOR, DO NOT TAKE.
He is helpful if you go to office hours, but super disorganized. His teaching can be annoying but effective. He NEVER answers emails so dont even bother!
Professor Gill has the potential to be a pretty good teacher & financial accounting no matter who you take it with is a difficult class to take.Although attendance is a major part of this class, don't depend on learning everything in class. This class requires a lot of practice outside of class. So as long as you sacrifice the time you can pass.
Before taking this class with Professor Gill over the summer I read a bunch of reviews on the site. However, I decided to go through with it. I do not regret my decision. All the material was explained properly. There was a lot of extra credit. Just study hard and you will pass. I got an A-
Everyone talks about how hard Gill is but he's really not its just that Financial Accounting is a tough class to pass. Professor Gill provides tons of extra credit, tons of practice work, study sessions, and even lets students retake some tests. It's just a hard class to pass and you must work hard.
Don't take this man for any classes at UNF. He is confusing, tests are difficult, and he isn't a good teacher. Take anyone but Gill. After withdrawal date, only half the class was left. If you don't want to fail, prepare to spend a LOT of time working online material.
Prof. Gill is THE worst professor I have ever had. It's bad enough that accounting is a difficult subject, but Gill made it so much harder to understand. Flies through material, then throws you an advanced style question, and gets angry when you can't come up with the answer. We don't understand Gill!! Once again, worst professor I've ever had.
He's a nice guy but he is not very good at answering most of my questions. He puts things on his test that you wouldn't expect to be on there.
I dont know why people think he is bad. The tests are pretty much like the reviews he gives and even if you have trouble with them gives around 10% extra credit to more for each test. I just took his third exam and I have not gotten lower then a 95 with around 2-3 hours of studying for each exam
Do yourself a favor and just dont take this guy. No help whatsoever. doesnt teach anything, then expects you to know everything come test time. How does he even work here? H, if youre reading this, actually print out the sheets on tests so i can fill in the accountingness. stop making students draw out scaled paper during timed tests, you monster.
Take during the summer!!!!!!! He is much easier then. Took this class three times and he was the easiest in the summer! Passed with a B, finally!
Gill is a complete G. Don't understand all the hate here. If you come in and do the work he assigns, you will succeed. He even states that accounting is one of the most failed classes across the board. The workload can be heavy, but it's doable, especially if you are a business major.
Gill isn't consistent. He'll tell you to print out an assignment and you'll never use it. He'll tell you something is due one day and then change his mind that day. He makes his own tests. It's half multiple choice and half short response. He does give partial credit though. He isn't very good about getting grades back quick.
His tests are TERRIBLE! I got 90%- 100% on all my homework assignments and still got F's on all the tests! He expects you to know the material when you walk into the classroom. His first words of the semester "I am going to shove the material down all of your throats." I was terrified of this professor the whole semester.
Accounting is going to be a hard class no matter what teacher you have, but Gill makes it 10 times harder than it needs to be. He is rude to students and does not care if you pass or fail.
Worst professor I've had at UNF! Tests are impossible and way too long to be taken in 50 minutes. Cengage online homework is complicated and each assignment takes three hours. The professor's lectures always go over and he only gives partial solutions to the problems that never get finished in class. He does not care if students pass or fail.
He is a terrible professor, do NOT take this class! His grading standards are unclear and homework can take anywhere from 1-8 hours to complete. He starts class late everyday and ends 10min late. He also does no respond to emails. You do not need to buy a hardcopy of text, it comes with the online software for the homework.
DO NOT TAKE! The worst professor I've ever had in my life! Only grades are quizzes, exams & attendance. Requires attendance but you never know when he's going to take it. His lectures are so confusing, you're better off zoning out in class & meeting with a group/reading the text. Exams are very tough & he doesn't provide enough time to take them.
DO NOT TAKE!!! I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE!!! He was so rude and disrespectful to me. Called me out in front of the whole class. When you ask him questions he doesn't answer then and makes you feel stupid. I made the lowest test grade I have ever made on a test in this class. I cannot stress enough how horrible he is!!
I failed every exam. Every single one. I studied for them and nothing made sense. He goes over things in class that has nothing to do with exams. Don't bother printing out anything he says to bring to class. He's willing to help if you go to his office hours. He does give extra points here and there.
Do not take this course with Hubert Gill. 100% take this class at FSCJ whether or not you go to UNF full time or just for summer. You cannot understand this professor, you cannot read his scribbles on the board. He talks about things that are irrelevant in class. He will not email you back or show up to office hours. Does not respect students.
I took Gill for ACG2021 summer A. Gill lectured everyday and his tests were on exactly what he lectured about. This class requires a lot of studying and time outside of class, but thats true no matter where you take it. Gill was a good professor, don't let the other reviews scare you off.
This is honest to god the worst teacher I have ever had to take. I don't even use this site and I am on here writing a review just because this man is so bad at his job. Vague metaphors that don't relate, horrible handwriting or lazy scribbles on the board, condescending, late every day, makes you stay late, unclear about syllabus, horrible teacher
On the first day of class, Gill said only half of us would still be there by the end of the term. He was right. If you don't study every day outside of class, and plan to TEACH YOURSELF, you will do poorly. You should only rely on Gill to clarify what you've studied. He is a nice guy once you get to know him. Don't be afraid of him, and speak up.
I would not recommend taking this instructor if you plan on taking a full load. This class requires an extreme amount of studying and the homework is very time consuming. Much of the "review" work was worthless and I did not care for the professors teaching style nor his condescending attitude toward his students. First class I had to withdraw.
His teaching style is different than I have experienced before. I thought he was a pretty good professor. I passed his class (barely) That was mostly because I procrastinated. If you do the homework and study you should pass the class in my opinion. Accounting is a hard subject overall.
Just don't. save yourself. Whoever likes him has no idea what they are talking about. They are honestly the kind of people that simply enjoy learning accounting by themselves. alone.
Abandon all hope. At the beginning of the semester he makes an analogy of the class being like a "train leaving the station" and you have to get on and stay on to pass. In reality the train left 45 minutes ago and you are trying to catch it while running on broken glass without shoes on. This class is like that.
He is a nice guy and appreciates effort. He made a lot of errors in his assignments, which made it very frustrating since the material was already difficult to begin with. Unless you're really good at figuring stuff out by yourself or from the book, I suggest a different professor.
Never take this moron's class. He's late every day and can't teach. All he goes over in class is what the book already went over but longer and with less detail. He constantly messes up basic addition and subtraction and every sheet is rittled with errors. The tests won't be on what he teaches. My grade went up 2 letters from watching 1 youtube vid
Professor Gill wasn't really as bad as the reviews make him out to be. He gave multiple extra credit opportunities and even re-testing options for some tests. If you go to class, pay attention to what he says and put the work in, then you will pass. Accounting is not an easy class in general. Definitely utilize him in office hours or one on one.
Take with someone else, especially if you are an Accounting major. Does not explain basics well at all and consistently makes mistakes. Avoid at all costs.
Gill is a good teacher and a nice guy. His class is difficult, in the sense that you have to know the material to pass the tests. If you do the Connect assignments, study, and go to class, you'll be fine. Gill is always there to help. Get to know him, he's cool and hilarious. If you have a bad work ethic, you'll fail. But that's your own fault.
Sadly Mr. Gill is a bad teacher, he knows what he is talking about but is unable to explain the concepts of the class effectively.
Gill hands out a ton of homework, and his tests are challenging. Has a test review before every test. Hands out a lot of extra credit. Go to class, study a ton, and youll do fine. Dont take him if you are taking an intensive semester, but his class isnt that bad. Can be condescending to students.
This is a really great professor he gives you tons of extra papers to do so you can have extra practice on assignments, you do not have to do them since he goes over it in class but its still great practice. He uses Mcgrawhill assignments so everything you do there is graded. He gives out a ton of extra credit points.
His teaching kind of sucks. He doesnt help and everytime you ask questions he says this is simple learning I should have to teach it but I am and doesnt explain anything. I walk out more confused than I am when I walked in ready to learn. Would not recommend him at all!
Financial Accounting is hard for most as is, so the course load is the same all around. 5 tests and a final, lots of Mcgrawhill homework, and a group project make up a majority of your grade in the class. Gill as a professor doesn't respond to emails and can be condescending but if you show up to class and do your work that won't matter. Extra Cred
Hard class, professor was not a good teacher
Honestly, this is the worst professor I have ever taken. He gives a lot of worksheets for practice, but it can be very difficult to keep up with the work. He doesn't clearly explain anything in class, and you basically have to teach yourself. Attendance isn't mandatory, but if you don't go, you won't pass. I suggest taking this at FSCJ.
Prof. Gill is knowledgable in Accounting, but his knowledge is not easily transferred to his students. If your goal is to learn accounting, I would take Prof Gill because you will learn the concepts and rules of accounting. Difficult class but definitely beneficial in the world of accounting. If you are not ready for intensity please avoid simple!
Awful. Transferred out first day to another professor. He is the reason why Accounting students don't make it past Intermediate 1 and 2. Avoid avoid avoid.
Gill is a mediocre professor. Over the years I think he has improved, but he still makes mistakes and shows up late. His final is ridiculously hard, almost impossible to study for. However, he does give a fair amount of extra credit and he really does want you to pass. Overall, not recommended, but if you have to take him, know what to expect.
Do not take this class. Although he gives a lot of extra credit he makes it almost impossible to pass his class because the tests are nothing like the study guide. He is a very knowledgable person but is not good at answering questions and gets frustrated when you dont understand. Would not recommend.
I took Hubert for accounting over the summer, these were his first words "Welcome to my financial accounting class, it is great to meet you all, and I cant wait to see you again this fall." This professor does not intend to pass you unless you fight him with absolutely everything you've got. Even if you have to get on a waitlist, don't pick him.
He does not teach very well, I never missed a class and I took notes like crazy and I still didn't pass his class. If you ask him a question he is rude about answering it and does it the same was as he showed the first time, which doesn't explain it.
Mr. Gill is a very knowledgeable man, but that's about all. He knows what he's teaching but doesn't always communicate in ways that makes it easy to understand. He gets frustrated very easy. The homework is unnecessarily hard and Long along with the extra credit. 3 quarters of my class dropped half way through the semester.
While he is a tough teacher I think he is a great one. He teaches the material very well and is very knowledgeable. He wants to see you pass, but he makes you work for it, which is a good thing. I would definitely recommend Mr. Hubert if you truly want to learn the material. He does give a decent amount of homework but it prepares you greatly.
While this is a tough professor, I learned a lot and ended up changing my major to accounting after taking his class. If you attend class, take notes and follow along with the practice problems you will get the material. He seems harsh at first but turned out to be super funny and caring. There's a lot of hw but tests are exactly like the reviews.
I really liked Gill but I know there were mixed feelings about him. Simply put: If you are a good student, you can get an A pretty easily If you are a decent student, you can get a B with minimal effort If you are a bad student (doesnt do HW or go to class), you will fail
He states at the beginning of the course that you are supposed to learn on your own and then show up to class to do the homework. Don't show up expecting that he is going to teach. If you just do the work BEFORE you go to class, you will easily pass. He's not the best at explaining, which is why its crucial to do the work on your own before hand.
Gill is a good professor. He's a hard teacher. This class was made so students will change majors. You have to show him that you got it no matter what. He tricks your brain a lot, to the point where he doesn't want you to pass. He is rude at times, for example if you ask him about a question he gets mad that he has to re-explain himself.
Refuses to work with students. Absolutely no flexibility so if you plan on missing any assignments/quizzes/exams, don't bother signing up for this class.
Professor Gill is a tough professor. At times, he can come across as rude, as he gets frustrated when students do not understand the information. He is very confusing regarding the structure of his class, and is extremely difficult to reach even though he claims to contact him with any questions. Only take with him if he is your last resort.
At the end of the day it's accounting, it's not going to be easy. He would give good life examples but he would hate to repeat himself. He does not REPEAT himself. He is very strict, a tough grader. Can't miss a decimal. If you don't understand something, you are better off going on youtube or wait... use Chegg.
He makes everything 10x more confusing and difficult than it should be and will not help you with anything. Not sure why he was hired to work with students when he clearly does not care, do not take him if you can
Accounting is hard, but the way this class was organized made it even more harder. It was a 6-weeks class, with lots of homework (some was not necessary, really) and a group project. It had 6 exams (last exam was one day apart from the final, which is odd). If you don't have work, family and life - you'll do fine. If you do - good luck.
You can obviously tell he knows his stuff, but he does such a poor job of actually teaching it. On top of that, he has yet to answer any of my emails asking for help.
Professor Gill was probably the worst teacher I have ever had throughout my college career so far. He is never on time for his own lectures and he does not teach the material. He makes students' lives miserable with an unreasonable amount of homework. We have exams on Nov 20, Dec 5, and a final on Dec 9. This adjustment to online also isn't easy.
Worst class ever
The homework was a lot but that's accounting for you. His lectures were hard to follow and if you asked a question he got mad. He was extremely rude when I tried to get help because I was struggling because of remote instruction he immediately started lecturing me about how it was all my fault for ten minutes without letting me get a word in.
Are YOU KIDDING ME? I took this class many, many years ago at FSCJ )it was FCCJ back then), but had to drop there because I was called up to the Gulf War. So I take this man and he made ABSOLUTELY no sense about debits or credits. I don't recommend him to anyone, and I think I was just given a B- because I knew his game and caught on to it fast.
Avoid this professor.
I want to Sue him for being a bad professor sucks!!
Doesn't teach and then blames it on students who don't go to his lectures for bad grades. Procrastinates his own assignments and exams. We have 3 weeks left and 3 exams, a Final, a huge project, plus the normal 6+ hours of homework normally every week. He demands at least 1-2 hours per day for his class and expects you to fail. DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
This semester isn't over but I would never want anyone to take this class in-person. This man was late to his own zoom meetings and decided to change the meeting times without any notice on the first day. His teaching was hard to understand; he also seemed to berate students for even asking questions and many of my classmates and I struggled.
Just all-around bad professor as most other people have said don't take him if you have the choice.
The worst professor I have ever had. Semester isnt even over yet and I cant believe how awful it still is... we have 12 days left of school and somehow have 4 tests and an insane amount of hw left. Also, the rudest professor I have ever had, and when I say rude I mean straight up degrading students for asking questions. Please dont take him.
Please don't take this professor. I honestly do not know how this man is a professor at a University. The overall structure of this course was just all over the place. He does not follow his syllabus and has no sense of a course plan whatsoever. Not helpful to questions and degrades students for asking them. Also late to most of his classes.
Single worst college class I have taken so far. Always late to lectures. He does not teach the material well. It is doable but I absolutely grinded to slip by with a C- Do not take this class.
This class was just hard. Thats it just so hard. This professor does give multiple attempts to some hw and quizzes. The tests arent proctored or they werent when I took it (fall 2020). There were a lot of hw quizzes and test and yes they were all very hard but the class is passable. Not the worst but def not the best professor.
Pass 4 of his exams and do all the homework youll pass his class. Does give lots of work and does give out lots of exams but I honestly dont believe hes a bad teacher, lots of ppl get lazy when it comes to this class so dont fall behind
First off the only reason i passed this class was because the SI guy was so good. Prof Gill is a terrible teacher and i honest to god dont know how he still has a job in teaching. he never gives clear instructions, assigns late notice assignments (some due on saturdays assigned day before), syllubus unclear, worst prof ive ever had in my 3 years
If you prefer doing your work by yourself and able to comprehend accounting easily- just by reading. Well, this professor would be best for you. Otherwise, stay away from this professor.
Genuinely one of the hardest classes I have taken. If you don't do the reading and show up to the lectures you can count on not passing this class. Expect frequent pop quizzes and ensure you allocate enough time to read the textbook. Despite the difficulty, if you plan on being an accountant you should take his class.
I highly recommend not taking professor Gill. He really seemed to not care whether anyone passed or not. I think the only reason I squeaked by was because I was one of about 7 or 8 students that stuck it out till the end. I worked my absolute tail off just to try to understand what was going on. He was not helpful at all.
He is the most arrogant and inconsiderate professor I have ever had. He barks at you if you answer a question incorrectly in class and sometimes doesn't show up without giving prior notice. This was especially inconvenient for me as I was a student who had to take two buses across town just to get to campus. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
Professor Gill gives out many opportunities for extra credit and even let several people retake the 2nd exam if they wanted to raise their score. He gives 6 exams which helps to spread out scores and not fail the class if you fail one exam. Overall a great professor that has a great sense of humor.
Professor Gill is very talented at what he does. He is a CPA (certified professional accountant) with lots of experience in the field. However, he has no clue on how to teach. To keep it short, be prepared for due dates to be changed without any notice, botched exams with multiple typos, and a false-Canvas grade that gets adjusted on the last day.
To fit into 350 words: lackluster teaching, unorganized setup, exams with typos, changing due dates, reluctant to answer questions, late to emails, late to class. Most importantly, on the last week everyone is given an excel spreadsheet to put in their grades and are told to ignore the canvas grade. Went from a A+ to a C-. Felt cheated out by him.
type of professor to get mad at students when everyone fails a test not realizing hes the problem. waits until after withdrawal ends so he can change the grading scale, A+ to C. always arrives late, mandatory hw literally EVERY night. due dates change all the time with no notification, super unorganized, teaches like high school
Constantly shows up late, throws information at you and makes it very clear that he does not care if you pass or fail. This class will be 90% reading and learning the material yourself. Very disorganized class set up and unclear grading scales. Avoid him if you have the chance.
It's true you basically have homework every night. I'm talking about spending a couple of hours, you have a pre-lecture, homework, and post-lecture for every chp. Multiple times try to get the class the answer question we hadn't learned. If you tell him the correct answer he'll ask how you got it just to tell you you're wrong. one word dismissive
If you want to be an accountant, take Gill. Gill gives good lectures and practice problems that actually help you learn the topics. There are pop quizzes pretty much every week so as long as you show up to class and do the work you will be fine. The exams are based off the practice problems so if you do the work, you will do well on the exams.
literally 3 assignments every night including weekends, I wish I was exaggerating. I do not recommend taking gill to ANYBODY, he literally makes fun of people who have taken acg more than once. he likes bringing up the fact that he's probably gonna see us again next semester. if u fail a test, he won't realize its his fault for faulty teaching
The worst professor I have ever had in every way possible. The exams are 70% of your grade and are unbelievably hard, on one exam he told the class prior that if we study and do well we should get a C. He is a mean man that cares very little for his students well being and progress to the point he makes fun of those who retake his class. Avoid!!!
Awful! Made fun of us for not knowing the material. Talks down and makes you feel stupid for asking a question. Lots of homework just to not understand. The highest avg. for in-person exams was 51% and blamed us for it. Horrible teacher. Doesn't respond to emails. He was setting us up for failure and never reviewed for exams. You teach yourself.
Your grade in canvas will not reflect what you have in the class its just your test scores that count. Tutoring is not offered for his class. For the final exam review every question someone asked was met with "well you'll have a cheat sheet". There are at least 5 assignments a week on top of studying.
The worst professor ever. Extremely unorganized. Never answers emails. ALWAYS late to class and exams. Won't update your grade in Canvas. Very disrespectful. Does not care about his students at all. He blamed the students when the average grade of an exam was 51%. He does not go through what the book goes through. DO NOT TAKE HUBERT GILL EVER.
The average score on all the in-person exams were around 50%. The only reason why most of Hubert's students passed the class was because he had to curve us a TON. He is extremely disrespectful when talking to you. He will not go through the textbook and will never do reviews before exams. You basically have to teach yourself to survive Hubert Gill.
Students beware, I have never been stressed with any of my classes at UNF like this one. First you will not know what your grade is till the very end of the semester (literally the very last week) and even then, you have to wait till he finishes grades since he has his own grading system and doesn't use canvas.
This class is difficult. Part of it is due to Gill's flawed grading system, that renders the 8 hours per week on homework useless. If you don't know the material, you're screwed, and it is material you have to teach yourself. I'm sure accounting isn't hard to understand, but you will not pass this class unless you know everything.
Under any circumstances, don't take this guy. Choose any other guy. For all exams, he will only teach you 25% of it max. You have to do your own research along with reading the whole book = pass this class. If you do get stuck with this guy, complete every homework assignment and every extra credit assignment. 70% of the class is based on exams, GL
Gill is disrespectful to students. He called out someone in class asking what their major was. When they said their major He concluded that they should know this material, so he insulted the student in front of everyone. He consistently asks for students to answer questions and if you're wrong he snaps at you. Also, lots of homework. hard tests.
Professor Gill was my favorite professor i have ever taken, He is so sweet and gentle with me and knows how to involve the LGBT community in his lectures. I want to take this class again to hear his sweet voice.
6 EXAMS! No drops on any of them, and he doesn't care if you fail. IN FACT before the 1st exam, he said he didn't want to see 20/30's..then after everyone ended up getting that he said why did i see 20/30's?! he yells at us every class, I am shocked he is still even a prof here. it is NOT the students who fail he's just TERRIBLE!
Professor Gill is the WORST teacher I've ever had. His homework assignments are easy and concise, but come test time it's like you've never learned anything in the class. This is not an accounting class, it's a word problem class. Not to mention he is very degrading to his students; he is especially rude to those who don't understand something.
He has put all the terrible professors I have met at UNF TO SHAME! Why? Because he is even worse then them. Yells at his students, 6 exams no drops, and literally said before our 100 question final "I am betting against you guys, that after 10 minutes u r going to guess on everything and FAIL!" then made a joke. He is only there for his tenure.
I am not exaggerating when I say this, he is the absolute worst professor I have had at this university. Cannot understand him when teaching. Can't read his writing. Very rude teacher. Has degraded people in front of class. Will get annoyed if you don't understand right away. I really hope UNF replaces him. Please do not take his class.
I tried so hard to like this guy because he seemed personable but no unfortunately every bad review on here is accurate. The assignments will take you between 4-9 hours every week and dont count for squat on your total grade, the exams are weighed so incredibly heavy if you get below a 50 on any of them you might as well drop the class. Very rude.
Avoid this professor at all costs. Extremely demanding with unreasonable exams that don't align with the homework. Lectures provide little value, so you'll need to rely on textbooks and Unstuck study for effective study prep. Tough class, but passing is possible with dedication.
This was the most time-consuming course I took this semester, with about 7 assignments per week (1-3.5 hours each). Due dates pop up unexpectedly, but hes willing to adjust. The final exam is HARD and comprehensive. Aim for an A or B throughout the course, so the final won't hurt as much. I had an A but finished with a B after failing the final
Hubert Gill actually inspired me to pursue a career as a postsecondary teacher. He demonstrated firsthand that as long as you are a tenured professor, you can be egregiously awful at your job and somehow avoid getting fired. Expect long hours from homework. You'll get nickeled and dimed on exam questions.
I consider myself a good student. I've never had a C before in my life. But Hubert is the WORST. I've never felt the need to write a review but it's called for here to save my fellow students the suffering. Very rude.WILL embarrass you for not understanding advanced material. If you can take Cynthia do! She's cut clear and more than fair.
Rude to students who don't understand information right away. Doesn't teach nearly enough about the course or in depth at all. He can't communicate the information he does go over in class effectively either. And HW really doesn't matter grade wise. He will just cram 3 tests in the last 3 weeks of the course without going over the material
Make sure you study, since this class tend to be hard for everybody just make sure you study before class and go over the notes you took in class afterward, also stay on top of homework and attend his SI sessions.
He seems caring but holy was this class egregious. I've never had so much mindless homework in my life. Stopped caring halfway through because I couldn't keep up with the amount of busy work. Minimum of 6 hours of homework a week, it never ended. The tests were ridiculous I left half of my exams empty because it was not what was on the homework.
He is the worst professor for acct at unf. he doesn't explain anything in the class, in my class he even said I don't care if 99% of the class fails as long as 1 student passes I did my job right. Dosent care about anyone.
This professor does not have the it skills nor the memory to create a functional class. This semester (fall) I have had to contact him for missed assignments because the due date was listed incorrectly, leading to missed work. As of today I have spent exactly 1 month and several emails trying to get assistance. Despite agreeing, he has not helped.
Worst professor I've ever had.
This is a tough course & Gill has a personal teaching style, you need to engage yourself in this course regardless of who your professor is. He comes off harsh and maybe a bit difficult but if you show you care and ask questions, he will recognize that and make sure you succeed. He was very accommodating and kind.
Be prepared to teach yourself the material. Biggest takeaway is to read the text and do the homework mostly adaptives! Visit fitting office hours or in person to discuss grades or assignments. Won't respond to emails. Go to the SI sessions.
Worst professor I've ever taken. He didn't put in the due dates for 90% of the assignments so they never showed up on the calendar page in canvas. So much mindless busy work. I had to cut my free time to nearly 0 to be able to get my grade. Has mandatory group "projects" that waste time more than anything. Pick anyone else for your own sanity.
