He's got a nice sense of humor, very friendly and helpful (you just need to ask for help). You have to follow the format requirements! :)
Like been said b4, follow the format reqs:) He's cool, and funny.
He's serious about his students and the subject itself. Be prepared to work and attend class. As long as you've got great study habits you can get that A.
you have to make sure you that you attend class and take good notes in class. his tests pertain to what he lectures about, and that is a plus!. he is very down to earth and makes this subject more interesting to learn about. he's not a pushover, so don't think you don't have to study.

this guy is condescending, arrogant, and just plain MEAN. he embarassed me so much in front of the whole class by reeming at me for being late that i never went back.
nice guy, funny. follow his format requirements. if you don't, you probably wont get an A. May be a better idea to take a different teacher.
This guy...i don't know how to say it..he's arrogant and ignorant. If he doesn't agree with you he will not let you speak. If your late you wont get to turn in anything that is due that day. The guy probably got picked on when he was little and chosses to power trip on his students. I took Mrs. Harrison instead , i'd recommend her!

VERY HARD. TOO MUCH WORK. MAKES ME SAD.
Do not take this class if you want an easy A or a B. Having sayed that, his class was great. He expects the best from his students and really pushes you to work hard. He can be a bit condesanding to the whole class at times but only when the class deserves it. He makes you do presentations in front of class that can be challenging. So if you really dont care about Psychology don't take this teacher. On the other hand if you wana gain lots of knowledge about the field come prepared. I personally enjoyed it.
he cant teach for crap. he cant spell and he cant read. theres no point in attending this class just read the book. i suggest you dont waste your money. take maxwell instead shes good patient and very easy..

I enjoyed his class A LOT. However, you need to read the book and study class notes. If you’re the type of student that doesn’t listen to instructions and then gets mad at the teacher when they don’t except the assignment then this class isn’t for you. Come to class with an open mind and ability to except the hard truth about human nature. Life
Yes, he is a hardass, but he expects you to do the work and not him doing it for you. Remember we are here to learn not sit around and look pretty. Do the readings, write the papers and you will do fine. Just watch the final project..that is the killer!
don't take him. he is ****, boring u to death and hella hard to pass. more than half of the class dropped by end of the midterm.

He is a good teacher. In the beginning he can be confusing when lecturing, but once you get to know his style of teaching, you like'll him. Not an easy A though. His papers come before the exams and if you do the work for the paper the exams will be a peace of cake. Good Luck!
GOOD TEACHER. BETTER SHOW UP TO CLASS THOUGH. HARD TO PASS BUT WORTH IT IN THE END IF YOU STUDY.
Strict teacher. Very egotistical and likes to talk about himself. Makes students cry, angry and walk out. If you like a no-nonsense professor, he's your man.
he was out for most of the term for back surgery but while he was back he seemed very laid back and his final and our last project were graded very easy. this is different than what everyone else who had him for a whole term says about him so im not sure.
I found his class pretty hard when I first started. But it became easier as I got to know his teaching style. Mr. Villalta is pretty cool, actually. He's funny, too. My only advise is to read the textbook (the assigned chapters) and take notes because he rarely writes anything on the board. Also, watch your class attendance.
I did not"LEARN" anything from this instructor! Save yourself a lot of time & frustration by taking an online course & self study. That's what I had to do anyway! He does not explain concepts, all he does is give examples from his personal life(which is not that interesting) He is strict about attendance but would have had to drop himself!Go figure!
One of the best teachers I've ever had very clear about assignments and very fair about grading.
My favorite teacher. Funny old man:-)
He keeps the class interested because he makes learning fun!
At the beginning of the semester, I was mocking this guy. His list of rules for class is funny. Assumes everyone is a child. I'm getting ready for the final, and I've taken about 10 pages of notes. He reads his lectures directly off a page at the lectern, and speaks so fast it's meaningless. That being said, I lked him by the end of class. Easy A
teacher really doesnt give good lecture notes, but lets you know what he'll focus on, attendence is mandatory, just read the book and focus on his study guide and you'll get an A
he's a creep and he doesn't know his subject.
Seems he gets his kicks from putting people on the spot, often in excruciating fashion.I soon felt like many of his outbursts were both unnecessary and in bad taste.About 2/3 of the class dropped, half because he kicked them out.I was forced to withdrawal because I did not follow an arbitrary outline requirement for a paper.I wouldn't recommend
Loves to pick apart or psychoanalyze his students. He will call you out and try and tie you into the lecture in any way possible. Not a lot of class discussion, and isn't very lenient when it comes to the rules of any sort, especially late assignments whether it be15 mins to a day late at best. Not a very hard class if you've taken PSYCH before
Take this professor only as a last resort, as I did. I'd say he's by far the weakest part of the otherwise useful class. The book is a better teacher. He can be very rude and condescending - and though he hides it behind a thin veneer of calm bullying, he's overwhelmingly insecure, often expressing it by lashing out needlessly at students. Avoid.
After the first few class days I've been in his class, he was already favoring the white folks and totally ignoring or singling out the non-white folks. He's a horrible teacher, his lectures are all over the place. Read the textbook, his lectures are straight out from it. Don't take this class, it's a waste of time.
extremely in depth; creative usage of role playing examples that set stage for class.
his notes are unorganized. he expects you have come to class on time everyday and have your book ready. he picks on people a lot. but his workload is actually okay. as long as you study for the exams and do your best on the term papers, you'll pass his class. i thought it was an easy A class. but he still seems a bit biased.
Took his evening class, very dry and monotone lectures, hard to take notes, his tests are mainly from the book, 2 midterms, 1 final, 2 research papers, boring class but pretty easy A
Took Villalta for both General and Applied psychology. I enjoyed his class so much, I considered changing my major. Attendance is mandatory. Participate in class (read ahead and pay attention, duh!) and you'll make a friend for life. Taking Applied with him is like signing up for free therapy. He tells great stories and analogies, making it fun.
great teacher. he is very insightful and will share personal experiences, which can be perceived as self centered, but i think he is interesting so im not complaining. He does put people in the spot, but if you have been in therapy/counseling it is not scary to be put on the spot.. cmon guys. imtaking psych 1 with him this sem.
I love attending his class because he keeps everything interesting. you HAVE to do your reading & follow his rules, he somewhat strict. He teaches the class by giving examples of himself when he was younger plus you learn a lot! Take notes on what he talks about because that's what usually on the test plus he does give you review sheet that helps.
If you are young and have very little life experience and want to increase your self awareness, this is a great class for you. If you are older, been to college before, have any experience in self reflection or personal growth, you will bored out of your mind.
Mr. Villalta is just okay. He likes to put people on the spot which embarasses a student. He can also be a little rude. Overall, I regret taking his class. He has issues.
Very, very unclear. He is condescending and when notified that he could be more specific in his expectations, he added "is that CLEAR?!" at the end of every sentence. Also compares frequently to other Pysch 1 class. Read the book, he is unorganized and rude, and like previously stated, it is a much better teacher.
This guy is absolutly terrible. he talks down to people like he is ALMIGHTY. he is very rude and tries to punk students on the regular. he talks about useless things in class that have nothing to do with whats in the book, then expects you to know everything thats in the book when he doesnt even talk about it. HORRIBLE!!! DONT TAKE!!!
He's a nice guy but not at all clear on homework and doesn't follow syllabus. If you pay moderate attention in class you'll get a B.
this fool cant write a hand out to save his life. he give you an assignment and half the time its obvious he didnt check over his handout to make sure the grammar is clear. it leaves you very frustrated. avoid if possible
He is an awesome teacher and funny. Assignments are alright and it's a self therapy class which you take your time to reflect on yourself. Some students may get offended by his way of teaching however, his ways make more sense by using students as his examples rather than just lecturing. I find that his lectures are engaging.
awesome teacher! Class is like a self-therapy. Lectures were very interactive with students. He uses students as his examples. I recommend taking this teacher if you don't want a boring lecture that you sit in class and just stare at the board or wall. READ the book. Outlines of topics will be given for test so you will know what will be on test.
Great teacher. Excellent lectures used his personal life as examples as well as students. as long as you try he's there to help you. easy midterms and finals as long as you actually study he gives all the answers in the study guides. the two papers are easy. make sure you read the text he'll put you on the spot. i worked a lot and still got an A
Mr Villalta is a GREAT teacher. However, if you are a slacker you will hate him. He calls people out in class for not reading assignments all the time. Definitely one of my favorite teachers at CCSF. He's pretty tough, but always willing to help and will tell you what you need to work on if you bring papers to his office. Overall A+ teacher
He is an awesome teacher always helpful as long as you ask :) great sense of humor makes class more entertaining. Best teacher I've had in a long time take his classes he knows his stuff!
Great teacher! Honestly a bit strict, but with good reason. Nice sense of humor to keep class interesting, yet still productive. Minimal classwork, two midterms, two papers, and a final. As long as you keep up with the reading/lectures, it'll be easy! If you don't get something, ask him! He's very helpful. Class sessions get deep, so be ready&open!
I will drop him, for sure! I lost my time and my money. Mr.Villalta, please don't presser your students, We working hard.
If you plan on majoring in psychology take Mr. Villalta! By far he's the best professor you'll have. He's a very blunt person so don't be alarmed. His class is very easy to follow, if you're not able to do that then I don't recommend you taking him he's very strict when it comes to assignments and readings.I rant on about how amazing-this man-is!
Mr.Villalta is a great professor, but he is strict. He will call you out in class if you do not talk or participate, so if you're a slacker then don't bother. He does give study guides which look exactly like the test and he does like to joke around. Overall good teacher.
He is an amazing professor. If you do not like reading, do not take this class because he does not like slackers or people who do not participate.
Plain and Simple. Do the work and follow with the syllabus and reading, show him you get it by participating in class, study for the tests and get and A. if you get passed those expectations(of a typical college class), you'll find he is a great teacher with a good story and a good heart. I wish he taught more then Psych 1 & 26.
He may look scary first day of class but he is funny. Just do the Readings and assignments. Went to his psych 26 class before and it was great. He is a great teacher to take if you're serious about getting an A.
One of the best teachers ive had. Hes tough but he means well. He helped me get into volunteer work to make me competitive later in life. if you show him you care he'll have no problem helping you succeed. Make sure you do the HW and study for his test and you do just fine.
90% of class time is wasted on pointless lectures that have nothing to do with the material. One of the worst classes I've taken at City College. Just take it online?
Not an effective professor.
Mr. V was one of the best teachers I've had. Being in his Psych 26 class taught me life lessons and helped me to create positive changes in my life. I've seen other comments saying that he is hard on students. He is strict because he genuinely cares and he wants his students to succeed. I highly recommend this teacher!
Horrible teacher. He enjoys his power trips. He also likes to use your weaknesses against you. A big bully and not very acceptable at all for a teacher. Maybe a psychologist but not a teacher. Wouldn't recommend at all. A hardass.
VILLALTA MAKES YOU SWEAT. PERIOD. BUT YOU WILL BE A BETTER AND CHALLENGED STUDENT BECAUSE OF IT. HIS TESTS ARE ALL FROM THE BOOK SO BE SURE YOU READ THEM, THE ARTICLES AND TAKE NOTES! AND STUDY THEM! THE PAPERS ARE WHAT'S HARD REALLY. HE IS A REALLY FUNNY AND NICE PROFESSOR. YOU WILL ENJOY HIS LECTURES, AS THEY ARE DIDACTIC. TAKE HIM!
Hmmm, what an interesting teacher. Don't miss 4 classes, or you can dropped or if its passed that drop period, he'll automatically drop your grade without even giving you a warning. Good teacher I gotta say, but unfair policy in my opinion. I barely read the book and A's on test, if you have no previous psychology experience, READ!
Found him to be highly engaging. Motivates you by encouraging discussion of the materials. Offers a lot about himself to break the ice. His office door is wide open-use that great opportunity! Class has psychotherapy elements. Very positive/ passionate. Do the work! Not an easy A as some have suggested. Will prepare you for future academic rigors!
Very cool guy. Just started this class and it's already my favorite. READ THE BOOK, He says it over and over, listen. Also very smart, has alot to teach if you absorb the information. Also will answer your questions after class. I'm glad I picked this teacher for my first psychology class, great experience so far.
Loves to talk about himself instead of teaching the required material. Essays assigned are not as easy because of his poor lectures.
It seems like he doesn't quite have a clear grasp on the subject he's teaching. He's condescending, lacks clarity, and tends to ramble. Take this class with a different professor.
I'm sorry, but this guys is just awful. Aside from the fact that he is RUDE and constantly disrespectful to students, his lectures are an unclear mess! I consider myself a great student and have an average of A's in all of my classes, but with this guy, its impossible to succeed. It almost feels like he wants to fail you. HORRIBLE. AVOID!
This guy is a joke. He is so unclear HE doesn't even know what he's talking about. He rambles about nothing. Rude. he doesn't give anyone a chance. He sucks
Amazing teacher who encourages students to go forward and make students understand why they are going to college. Taking class not only getting more knowledge but also change your way of thinking. He is not easy in grade; however, his grades are worthy. I, an ESL students, who thought this class so hard, got an A in final. Just need to study hard.
He forgot he had a final, on finals day enough said.
This professor is very unclear and it's obvious that he doesn't like it when students ask him questions to clarify. He does not follow a specific time table and does not allow sufficient time for major assignments. He does not acknowledge that you're participating in discussion and dismissive of participation sometimes with a rude remark.
Professor Villalta is possibly the greatest teacher I've ever had. He is so smart and funny he'll get you talking. He definitely requires that you participate in discussions, which to me, is the best part of any class. He is so nice, I wish I could continue to learn from him for ages!
Take psych 1 with a different professor. I took different psychology courses with both Ms. Louis and Mr. Lutz and both are incredibly better teachers. This guy is very tough to understand and follow and he loves to put people on the spot to make himself look better. Dropped this course after a couple weeks because he can not explain the material.
Villalta is one of the most interesting, inspirational and understanding human beings I have ever met. He helped me find myself. People on here giving him poor marks must be either confused or lacking the courage to admit where they are lacking as a student. I got an F the first time. Regrouped. Then came back and aced it. Villalta is the man
He is hilarious! Great guy and interesting lectures but extremely confusing, not clear on paper assignments and he is a bit of a spas. He does give extra credit and extends dates because he really wants you to pass but his teaching methods are lacking.
He's one of the nicest professors I've ever had & truly wants his students to succeed. However, lectures can be all over the place, & sometimes turn into a pep talk. He expects you to read all the chapters assigned & come to class prepared, which isn't an unreasonable expectation for a professor. Exams are easy if you follow the study guides
Professor Villalta is a genuine man. He emphasizes the importance of education early on in the course. He makes jokes while taking the coursework seriously. This wasn't a learning experience, but a journey. It was a pleasure to have Villalta as my instructor. He understands everyone has their situations. Basically, he is an amazing person.
As a first time college student this is a tough professor. Better read and double check everything. Doesn't hurt to record your lectures to reference.
Great teacher! Could be long lectures and lots of reading, but it's worth it. He explains and lectures very well. He is one of the best teachers! Very supportive. So other people that say negative things, is because you didnt get to know him how he really is, you guys just had a first impression, and that doesnt count! Remember this is college..
Sometimes lectures can be confusing. Clear-cut grader, and assigns moderately difficult papers, but provides required research. As long as you do the papers, you will pass the midterm and final. Final exam is not cumulative. Provides study guides that will give you an easy A if you actually look over them.
Still think about my time in his class. Great experience and memories. Influential and Caring. W
