One of the best teachers I have ever had. Is more than willing to take the time and help explain anything outside of class. He even helped me out with work from a math class he wasnt teaching.
very helpful...very clear
Cornell is an awesome professor. He is very smart and knows what he is talking about. He is always willing to help his students and never says no. He will listen to you talk and continues to be helpful even when you are no longer in his class.
He is very helpful and fair. His lectures are very clear. As long as you do the homework, you'll do good in his class. He wears neat 70s clothes too.
This guy is wonderful!!! He has a passion for the subject. Plus, his way of explaining things makes them click.
easy stuff
He is awesome! One of the best math professors l ever had. Give good notes, very fair and always willing to help. Definetely reccomend him.
Hugh really knows what he is doing. Calc II is supposedly the hardest one, but with Hugh being such a great teacher, I think I pulled out an "A". I highly recommend taking his class if you get a chance.
Very heplful teacher. He has a passion for math and is the clearest teacher i ever had
good teacher! has a real and honest passion for math and helping students out. Take him!
I had him for two classes. When I didn't have him for a math class, he helped me out a lot. He is always willing and able to help one understand and pass his class with an "A". As long as you show that you are trying, he is a great professor,
I had this teacher last and it was the first math class I took in years. I expected it to be hell but Cornell made it much better. I'm taking Calculus now and I still go to him every week for help. He passes his understanding down to his students always
A great teacher, very clear and helpful. A retro way of dressing but he gets the point across. His aids are very helpful and I enjoy the help sessions that they provide. All of his examples are important! Write them down!!
HUGH IS THE BEST YOU GOTTA HOLLA AT HIM. FA SHO
GREAT TEACHER!! Very clear when explaining concepts, tests are fair and homework reasonable.
awesome teacher, as long as you do the homework and/or pay attension in class it's an easy B-
GREAT teacher, no excuse why you can't get a good grade. Do homework & take notes, go to him if you need help.
nice mullet. makes work exremely clear. dreases like a surfer from the 50's
oh my gosh, he is the best math teacher i've ever had...TAKE HIM!!! you will not regret it. he is the most patient person i've ever seen, if you dont get a concept, he'll spend whatever time it takes to make you understand.

Great math teacher. If you need help he's there.
Great Guy...truthfully, I didn't go to class as much as I should, but I went to see him in his office and he helped me out a lot! Even right before the final! I got a 66 in the class but since I passed the final he gave me a C...he's a sweet guy, I wish I could take him again!
He is the greatest math teacher that I have ever had. All you need to do is take notes and do the homework and you will be fine.
Hugh Cornell is one of the best math teachers in the world. I have been studying in other countries and never had better teacher. I was terable at math now im expert thanks to his help.
amazing teacher...gives points for everything, sooo nice! sooo willing to help! if you take him and actually go and try YOU WILL GET A GOOD GRADE!!!
Excellent professor! Explains material thoroughly during class, so don't be absent. Also, (as with any Calc class) you should keep up with your homework. If you go to class and do your work, you'll pass easily!
This teacher is very helpful. YOu can't ask questions in class, but outside of class you can sit in his office and do your homework is you like. Convenient office hours. Test are not hard. Come to class so that you want miss anything.
Super easy class, even if you're not matematically inclined. Awesome teacher, who is always available. He'll tell you exactly what's on the tests, and towards the end of the class and on the final, you can use a formula sheet. Take him!!
Very good class. He has his TA's helping, if you don't understand the material. You can go to them or him, he's always available to help. Take him!
He was the best math teacher I ever had. If you have to take finite take him. He cares about his students and will help you on literally everything. Take him if ya can. Tests come straight from lecture notes.
He is the best math teacher. Very clear, very helpful. Definitely taking him again.
The best math professor I have ever had. He probably is the best math professor at UNF. I highly recommend. I never realized how bad my other math professors where until I had someone as excellent as him.
Very clear about class expectations. Covers every item he will be testing on throughly, and will test on each and every principal he covers, so don't think that the one thing you are not good at won't be on the test.
ASK HIM QUESTIONS. He is very willing to help you! good teacher, good guy
Hugh Cornell is no doubt the best math teacher out there. I was lucky to have him for Calculus II. I probably would have failed the course if I had another professor. He explains everything so clearly in a way that makes calculus II sound easy and fun. His tests are long but he tells you exactly what types of problems are going to be on the test.
I suck at math and he made calc 1 understandable and fun. He knows his stuff and enjoys teaching. Best math teacher ever.
I hate math and I am terrible at it, but he gives very clear notes and is easy to understand. I was in a large class so we were not allowed to ask questions, so that kinda sucked but I didnt reall even need to. He is a great teacher!
Best professor I've had at UNF so far. If you listen in class and read the book, you'll be fine. He's willing to help & easy to follow. I would definately take one of his classes again.
Amazing prof. He's by far the easiest to understand and the most helpful. He uses every minute of class time he can. If you have the chance to take him - do it!

Pretty cool guy! He really tries his best to help his students. He is always willing to meet up with you after class to help explain. This class is not easy by any means. You really have to work hard to succeed. You must attend and turn in homework. I would definitely take again for another math class!
Go to class, study hard for quizzes & tests, utilize his office hours, turn in all homework, & you will get an A. He explains the math so clearly, he could never confuse you. He loves helping his students succeed. Even if you're a slacker, you will pass this class.
so clear, i hate math and the class was a breeze. just do the practice work and youll do fine
I took Cornell for both Calculus 1 and 2. By FAR, the best professor I ever had in UNF. I'm a junior right now and I took him my two first semesters in college and I still think he was the best professor I ever had. If you have the chance to take him, don't think twice. You're gonna enjoy Math after taking this guy.
i loved this professor because he made math soo clear. he's not into enteratining the class, he just gets it done. i liked him a whole lot!! very good guy!
College Algebra. 50-100 students, no questions during class except during class w/ grad. student. Prof. is clear. If you're not solid in math, take intermed. alg. 1st....I had to withdraw.
Very good teacher and always willing to help outside of class. Math's my weakest subject, so class was challenging to me. But I highly recommend his class.
Hugh is a great man! I havent gotten anything better than a "c" in any math class since my freshman year in highschool and I got a "B" in his class. He is very easy to understand and is always willing to help. If you go to class and do the required H/W you WILL pass. TAKE HIM!
The best proffesor I have had yet. He is very organized and clear. You are not in for a free ride. But if you will learn and he is always willing to help. I almost dropped the class but stayed and got a "C". Just do the homework and study, ask questions. He will always help you.
Mr. Cornell is a professor with a complete understanding of calculus. However his manner of explaining problems and solutions can be very difficult to understand. I do recommend this professor though. It will be challenging, but Mr. Cornell is probably your best shot if your not a Math wiz. DO NOT FALL BEHIND in his class or anyother MAC2233.
This teacher will go out of his way to open up his office to students for help. I had a problems getting a grasp of Business Calc. and he was very helpful. Just remember to take all the notes for review later, the book is usually just to get the practice problems out of assigned sections for homework. The notes he gives are like GOLD.
Great teacher, very helpful. Tests aren't too bad but you do have to pay attention if you expect to pass.
Prof Cornell is by far the best teacher I've had at UNF. He really cares about his students and wants to make sure you actually understand the material. He's always willing to help outside of class, and will keep trying until you actually get it. I would def take his class all over. I always looked forward to going to his class and made an A in it.
Great teacher. How every math prof should be able to teach. Clear, to the point, tests reflect what he teaches. would take him again any day
Great teacher..Def. take him if you have to take this course. He is very clear and a great math teacher! He is always willing to help so go to him for anything! Very understanding!
take him, he the best, he deserves all the a+ on this form, he helpful, easy to listen and learn from, test are fair i got a b+ and i'm not that good at math but if you try like me you can get an A! good luck!
AWESOME professor!!!! I took him my freshman year for Algebra and he sticks in my mind as the best professor I have had so far at UNF. His tests reflect what he covers in class and if you pay attention and go to class, you will do fine. I never got extra help from him outside of class, but I am sure he would be there to help anyone out. Take him!
Best math professor I've ever had. He explains everything incredibly clearly and goes over material multiple times. Cornell also gives short cuts and easier ways to solve problems than described in the book. Asks if anyone has any questions about material before each lecture. Always seems to be in his office and very helpful during office hours
Cornell was awesome...he was very clear and even goes over what to study before exams. he makes it so easy, and i am definetly not a math person. he's fair on grading, and if you do the work you will be fine! most of the time i did the homework when i got to class and did excellent.
if youre taking him for finite math he sucks. hes very boring and doesnt explain the material very well. hes monotone and makes me want to sleep! aghh dont take him for finite math.
I don't do too well in math but he is a great teacher. He's extremely smart and helps tremendously before exams. He explains the lessons well and if you need help, he's always there to help you. Just show up for class and you'll do real well.
great teacher.always willing to help no matter how often the exact same question is asked. overall clear on what he says and teaches.helps alot on the exams and tries to make sure that you understand so you can do it on your own.nice guy and knows his subject well.
This professor is awesome! He explains key concepts so well and makes them easy to understand and apply them on complex problems. I have learned alot about calculus and math in general. His tests are extemely long, usually 2-2.5 hours, but it was a night class so he lets u stay as long as u like which is very nice because u can fix mistakes.
Come to class, pay attention, and you will pass with flying colors. His notes are very helpful, and he gives you practice questions (you dont have to turn them in) to help you get better. He will personally tutor you when he can. Freakin love him

best teacher i have ever had in college. he really cares about his subject of teaching and knows his stuff. he let me come into his office and helped me out all the time in his free time. he really wanted to make sure that all of his students passed his class. such a great guy. take his class for finite math.
He's very helpful...go to class, take notes...he's cool, try to make him laugh...it's not very easy but he's a really nice guys who loves to teach math
He sucks...he told us not to ask questions in class because he has no time for them....i took him for Fall Term 2006 and later found out he allowed questions for Spring math is hard enough for some people and because he didn't allow questions one left there confused and frustrated majority of students work and can't live at his office....ugh...
Brilliant math professor who knows how to teach. Always makes himself available to help, office hours or not. His Calculus tests take 2-3 hours on average, but they cover everything that he teaches in class. Quiz or homework every week to keep you studying - Calculus II is an intensive class, after all. If you want to learn Calculus, take him!
Pretty easy. If you can make it to his office, he is always willing to help./
Great teacher
I am a HORRIBLE math student. I took Cornell’s finite math class and I did fairly well though. He talks faster than anyone ive ever seen, but his notes are thorough and he has tons of office hours. He truly is a good teacher, but if you know that you’re struggling or falling behind, make sure that you go see him during his office hours and he wi
Great teacher. Wonderful. Totally reccomend him. He is so helpful. If you don't understand he is willing to help you anytime at all after class. I hate math and he helped me to not hate it and actually understand it. Wonderful professor. Class is not too hard either because he does so many examples.
One word..AMAZING! I took him for college algreba. Math is not my strong subject and I understood pretty much everything, and if i didnt, he was happy to go over it again. He is a really nice guy and is alllllways available for office hours. I would DEFINITELY recommend him for any math course!!
Plain and Simple...Perfect!!
Wonderful professor! I just hate Math.
This guy is the greatest! He is very clear and straight foreward. Always available for questions in his office, even outside of regular office hours. His tests are loooong! but he warns you ahead of time. Explains things very well in class and assigns pleanty of homework to practice and to keep you on task with turning things in periodically.
Cornell is one awesome professor! He explains things so clearly that you have to honestly try to not pay attention to fail. His tests are long but he gives you plenty of forewarning and most of the time tells you exactly what is on the test. Funny and easily approachable and offers plenty of help outside of class. I wish he'd teach Calc III.
ohhhh, where to start. i hate math but i actually understood it in his class. he's a good professor although he kind of creeps me out!
He is an amazing professor. Not the easiest, but makes things very clear. Attendance is not mandatory, but is highly recommended. First math class I've been able to stay awake in in a long time. He's also very helpful, and gives lots of partial credit on tests and homework.
This is the BEST math professor that I have ever had! I HATE math, and I got an A in his class! Do all the homework and attend all the classes and you will do fine! The exams come right from the homework and class examples. He is an excellent professor!
really hard doesnt explain moves to fast
Great teacher. Goes over numerous examples and has plenty of office hours available if you need additional help. He'll walk you through any problem in his office hours. Either a quiz or a homework due every week, but he gives partial credit. 2 big exams and a comprehensive final. No real surprises.
He is such a good teacher. He explaines everything very well. It's not mandatory to go to class but you need to in order to pass, because everything in his notes is on the test.
Go to class and take notes and the test and quizzes are right off your notes, very good Professor would reccomend him to any one.
He looks like kip from Nepoleon Dynomite!
Great teacher. He really goes over the stuff and gives great examples. Take him if you can.
very very good teacher! i would recommend him to anyone. very helpful in and out of class.
he's so cool. if you have any problems. he gladly answers.
Very god teacher, notes are clear and gives good examples. Quiz or homework every week, but nothing bad. Tests are just like quizzes, so no surprises. You'll do fine if you do the homework. Gives partial credit!
Professor Cornell was wonderful. He was very understanding :] He always has open office hours so take advantage! Attendance is def a must..he doesn't take attendance..but its hard to catch up when you miss a class. He ends up usually dropping 3 lowest homeworks or quizzes, and he checks all your work on homework, quizzes and exams. Take him!!
he explains everthing really well and really wants u to do well in his course
Great Professor. Seems mean at first but he's actually very nice and helpful. I never went to his office but I know ppl who did and he was helpful. Come to class, do the homewrk and you'll get an A. TA actually grades homewrk so you have to do it anyway. I'd def take him again for any math class!
Had him for intensive college algebra, great teacher. I SUCK SUCK SUCK SUCK at math but he made it easy and fair and I finished with a C+
Great teacher. Very straight forward but always willing to help! TAKE HIM! He really cares about his job.
AMAZING PROFESSOR! I am awful at math, but he is ALWAYS willing to help in and out of class. Attendance is not mandatory, but you pretty much have to go if you want to do well. The man is brilliant and makes the material very easy to understand. TAKE HIM!!
Really great prof. I sat up front each day, his lectures are very clear and he has easy ways of doing problems. When the book is confusing, he clarifies it. Quizzes were easy in the breakout classes, and exams felt fair and normal. I would take this guy again and again if he taught the upper lvl math classes. Overall, great experience.
great teacher. should go to class he makes up his own notes. always avalable if you need help. hw or quiz once a week. 3 exams.
He is the best math teacher I've ever had. He made it easy for me to understand Calculus and that's saying a lot. I hate math and I'm terrible at it but he teaches well and I ended up with a B. Not to mention he doesn't rush you! Take him if you have the opportunity.
had him for college algebra and trig, was extremely helpful and was always there during his office hours. the best math teacher i've ever had
Greatest ever! Go to class otherwise you will not have any notes to look over for examples. Tests are so easy. It's basically homework with numbers changed around. The breakout portion is very easy as well. He's a must take.
I love him he is so sweet and a REALLY good teacher! He really helped me for the test and homework and he is very comfortable to talk to. TAKE HIM he helps you to understand calculus! <3
Loved his class. Class was easy, he drops the two lowest hw/ quiz grades, tells exactly what is going to be on the tests. Should have no problem if study for like an hour or so.
Everything everyone has said is exactly correct. He'll make your learning experience so smooth. It seems like common sense, but he sticks out from other profs. because he actually takes the time to HELP, he's patient. Basically, just take him if you have the chance. He's the epitome of a perfect teacher.
This is the best math teacher I have ever had. Pretty cool guy and very willing to help you out of class. You can tell that he really cares about his students and wants them all to succeed. He gives a lot of partial credit which really helps out. I wish he taught all of my classes! And I think he looks pretty good up there facing the board..
Best math teacher I have had to date. Doesn't spend a lot of time going over problems in class but is more then willing to help outside of class. Awesome teacher. Actually got an A in math.
Great teacher! Made the lessons easy to understand. always there to help outside of class. First a in math!
Professor Cornell is by far the best math teacher at unf. He is clear, kind and EXTREMELY helpful. ASK ANYTHING. ALWAYS in his office..you just have to take advantage of him. DO HW!!!! Save Odd problems to study for for the tests and quizzes... he is GENUINE and ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT. I didnt get lower than a 96 on ANYTHING... but I am a math major.
Professor Cornell is the best math teacher ever! He will literally help you with anything. Take advantage of his office hours! He practically lives in his office...and you can go there as much as you need to. Explains everything clearly! AWESOME PROFESSOR! Highly recommend for any class!
Professor Cornell is one of the clearest professors you'll ever have. He not only explains everything on a very understandable level, but illustrates it with several examples. Tests are lengthy and can be challenging, but he teaches the content well enough so that it's not a huge deal. Cornell is a must-take.
I am terrible at math but I managed to pass his class. He is almost ALWAYS available to help you outside of class. We had only online HW, nothing to turn in. The tests start off easy but gradually get harder so I advise you to do the practice problems he gives for the book, they really help. I stink at math but I'm really glad I took him!
Great Professor! He gives a lot of examples in is lecture. he is willing to work with you outside of class if you need it. He is in his office a lot. His exams may be a little long but he gives you lots of examples to study before the exam.
I'm horrible in math and he makes it so easy to understand. By far the best math teacher. Take his class.
Best math professor at UNF. I retook algebra with him and after failing the first time, he helped me get an A. Hes always willing to help his students outside of class. Weekly breakout quizes and homework through mymath lab. Three exams but he gives you unlimited time. Exams are friday afternoons so you can take as long as you need. TAKE HIM
Calc was hard for me mainly because I hadn't taken an algebra class in 2 yrs. I had to catch up on basic algebra. Do the homework! The hmwk can be frustrating at times but the program helped me study for every exam. I never used the book, only the hmwk program, got a B. Prof is helpful and exams are EASIER than the hmwk. He is usually open to help.
Love him! He cares about students and their grades, and he will do anything to help you succeed. Does require a book, but not mymathlab.
I would recommend him to anyone. He is very helpful to anyone who has questions or are struggling. His office hours are pretty much any time. He definitely knows his stuff and is very organized. The quizzes and Exams are just like your homework and notes. He is very nice and helpful, I would definitely take him again!
Best professor I've ever had. 'Nuff said. This guy knows his stuff, makes class interesting, and can clarify points easily. Taking Pre-Calc-Calc 2 with him will set you up in the future!
Amazing teacher, very fair. If you get a 70, you knew 70%. To put this review in perspective, I withdrew because I was failing, but still recommend him. Basically lives in his office and is always available to help. Very clear and knows the material. If you can do math and really want to learn, take him, if you want an easy A, find another teacher.
Professor Cornell kicks ass and takes names. He has a tremendous amount of office hours and is very helpful. If you want to learn and understand Calc 2, he's the man.
Best math teacher at UNF. Take him. I am taking him for grade forgiveness and he is extremely helpful. I would take him again in a heart beat. He has great office hours and is very easy to understand in class. Even his breakout teaching assistants are amazing. Thank you Hugh Cornell for teaching at UNF.
Mr. Cornell is an awesome teacher! I have had quite a lot of trouble with math courses in the past, but Cornell is so helpful and clear about concepts, I feel like I'm finally getting it. I definitely recommend his class, especially if math isn't your forte.
BEST COLLEGE ALGEBRA TEACHER EVER. Take him, you seriously have to be dumb to not pass his class. He is very clear, and very helpful especially during his office hours. I definitely recommend him. One of my fave math teachers ever
Great availability, very helpful. Take him, but don't expect an easy A, it still takes out of class study time to do well in his classes.
Best professor I've had to date. Took him a couple years ago for Calculus 1 and 2, he is clear, gives partial credit, doesn't care if you show up, but he explains everything so well that it's unwise not to attend class. Definitely recommend him.
If you know math well, he's probably a great teacher. If not, take someone else. His "teaching" method is "ok here's an example [writes really fast on board], ok next chapter!" WAY too fast for a 'pre' class. Skips lots of steps, etc.
Cornell is phenomenal. He is ALWAYS in his office, he LOVES his students, and he makes it very easy for you to learn. If you ask a question, he will answer it. His quizzes and exams are exactly what he goes over in class/assigns for HW. Do the HW!!! I would take him again in a heart beat. Brilliant man who genuinely loves teaching =]
He is the best professor I've ever had. Very clear in lectures, very clear as to what will be on exams and quizes, extremely helpful during office hours. Class is not mandatory but if you choose to skip class often expect to get behind. The text book is great and used A LOT, so get it. I'm taking him for calc 1, wish I could take him for everything
I love his confidence. This man is a genius and never wrong. Though my post may sound sarcastic, I am being genuine in every way; he is a genius ! I cannot say it enough. He is great at teaching and is very clear about what he expects. Assigns a lot of homework, but it shouldn't be too bad if you don't procrastinate. Overall, I love him. So much.
Best professor at UNF. Clear, concise, and yes, he is in fact a genius. great office hours as well. ive been to his office hours for other classes just because he makes sense out of complicated chaos. TAKE HIM
Cornell is awesome! I'm terrible with math but he is so clear and very easily understood. One of the few math professors who doesn't speak with an accent. He has office hours almost all the time -- I swear he lives in his office. He works with ACE too so he has extra hours to help when he's there. You REALLY have to study for exams!
I am a hard worker and I love math so this class was not difficult to me. Cornell is a great teacher and has great office hours. Basically, you go to his class two days a week and have a breakout session where you take your quizzes every week. The quizzes are like 4 questions and 30 points each. He gives you credit for everything. I recommend.
Cornell is, hands down the BEST math professor at UNF! He explains everything so clearly and you can tell he loves helping his students. But keep in mind, just bc he's an awesome professor this class isn't an easy A. His tests cover a lot of material and there are many quizzes.. but don't worry.. if u go to class and pay attention you'll be fine
Cornell gives you credit for everything. Even if you just re-write the problem. Literally the best math professor at UNF!! TAKE HIM!!
Who would've thought that Calculus for Business would become the easiest class I have ever taken. It's all thanks to Prof. Cornell. It had been a couple of years since I had taken College Algebra, but he explained everything so well and reviewed over basic concepts of algebra we needed to know that I was never confused as to what was going on. A++
He is an amazing professor. People who complain about him are simply lazy. Take him whenever you can. He is easy. If you put the effort, there is no reason for you to get lower than a B. I have a solid A in his class.
My favorite professor so far! He knows how to communicate with his target audience. Simplifies down to the basics and does lots of practice problems. He's pretty amazing as far as professors go!
The first time I tried taking this course I was getting D's and F's on everything. This time I took the course with him and I started getting A's and B's on the exams and quizzes without any problems! He will work with you all you need to help you pass. Gives lots and lots of partial credit on the quizzes and exams, it will keep your grade alive.
I really loved his class! He talks fast so sometimes can be hard to understand but if you ever have questions he will answer them with no problems. He's really understanding and is an awesome teacher overall. Just go to class, pay attention to the lectures, do the homework, and you're set for an A!
Hugh is the most remarkable professor at UNF in my opinion. His lectures and example problems are super clear, and he gives homework that is very beneficial practice for the exams. Can't recommend him enough. Has amazing office hours and is willing to do anything to help. tough grader, but he gives pretty good partial credit! You will love him!
Being in this class was a struggle in that it was a lecture hall filled with over one-hundred and fifty students. No engagement, here. Online component, present. All the same, there is a "breakout" every Friday in which there is a graduate student assistant giving out a graded quiz every session. This style of instruction is not for everybody.
Cornell knows what he's talking about, and hes really good at what he does but he goes fast and writes small so you have to try hard to pay attention. Hes pretty chill, no complaints. Quiz every friday and theres online homework assigned each class, due 3 days later. Easy if your good at math, not that bad if youre not.
This class incorporates My MathLab which incorporates what is learned in differential calculus for science students. It is unreasonably time consuming. It has a "breakout" every Friday where there's a quiz that takes up the allotted time. The three-hour final is worthless at 20%. Class size is dishonest when registered, it's a lecture hall!
Fantastic professor, great at teaching material in a manner that is easy for students to digest
AMAZING TEACHER! Tough class! But always there to help!
His office door is practically open 24/7. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THAT OPPORTUNITY. You're going to have to anyway because he doesn't use Blackboard to update your grades.
Best math teacher I have ever had! His lectures are extremely specific and he shows you step by step how to do each and every problem. As long as you come to class and take stellar notes you will pass. Also he is always open for office hours and is ALWAYS looking to help. Show face and he will help you more than you know.
Best math teacher I have ever had. He teaches everything simply and really makes you understand the material. There is no way I would have done this well with any other teacher. That said, he's not for everyone. He doesn't use blackboard, he doesn't review, no study guides. But, take him if you are willing to learn! Best decision I ever made!
Omg. I'm in love with this guy.(not in a weird way). He completely erased my fear of math in about a month, and turned it into my most enjoyable class. Can't recommend him enough. I wish he taught like EVERYTHING. No matter how bad you are at math he's always there to guide you through it and never makes you feel awful about it. 3
Easily one of the best professors at UNF, definitely the best math professor. I'm horrible at math, but he teaches everything so clearly. If you go to class and take good notes, even those who struggle with math should be able to pass without much of an issue. He practically lives in his office if you need extra help. Can't recommend him enough.
I've never been good at math but Cornell does an amazing job at explaining everything. Nothing he gives is multiple choice but he does give partial credit.
What a first rate educator and a top talent. Cuts through calculus like a hot knife through butter while keeping it clear as crystal. Not for math turkeys, though. Theres litle filler. Giving thanks for having a great calc 2 instructor!
Easily one of the best professors I've ever had. Cornell explained Calculus with a clarity I didn't think was possible. While you have to work hard, he gives practice problems to ensure your success and is always available for in-person help. I can't recommend him enough!
Only took pre-calculus coming into this course. Maybe this class is easy for people with calculus experience, but I found it very hard. He makes up his lectures as he goes along and by the end of the semester you will have a binder full of notes just for this class (and you have to know all of it for the exam). Beware if you're just average at math
Hugh Cornell is one of the best teachers I have ever had. I just finished a semester with him for calculus 2 and I wouldn't have passed without him. He teaches exactly what will be on the quizzes and exams and he is a very lenient grader. I would take him again in a heartbeat, great teacher and very kind person.
This guy is amazing, and perfect and like I understand math??? I always heard calculus 2 is the hardest of all, but with him I actually found it easier than calc 1. Do all the practice problems, his quizzes and exams are just like homework, can't stress that enough and can't recommend him enough.
He doesn't use any online communication such as blackboard or canvas so you have to go to class for the notes. Quiz every week along with homework on mymathlab. Quizzes and test are never multiple choice. Don't take him if your not good at teaching yourself.
He has such a dry humor in class, but you can tell he's really interested in what he's teaching no matter what level. He's really sweet though if you go to office hours and is always willing to help. Homework is just like quiz/exams and he gives really good feedback. Would take 5ever (WAITLIST into his class if you can if the list is not too long)
Always there when you need him (camps in his office). Calc 2 is quite difficult, but he explained it VERY clearly. Take him if you can. Got my first 99% on a quiz in a math class with him. Not to say it's easy - but he explains things well and his quiz/test expectations lines up perfectly with what he teaches.
I have taken Professor Cornell for precalc, calc 1 and calc 2 and I can say that he is the best professor I have ever had. He explains complex topics extremely clearly, and his teaching structure is very organized. He is so helpful and patient with his students. The homework might seem like a lot, but if you do it all then getting an A is not hard.
Awesome teacher! Really cares about his students and expects you to do well! Easily one of the best professors at UNF
If you are good at math, you would this class. Plus it's easy. If you and math do not get along, you will also enjoy this class, however the class may be a little harder.
Definitely the best math teach I've ever had! I'm a Bio major but his calc 1 class made me want to take him again for calc 2. He is very helpful, answers every question you have and will always help during office hours. He is literally a genius and explains complex processes well. Put in effort and pay attention during lecture and you'll do well!
You'll have MyMathLab homework every week and a quiz every Friday, but other than that it's a good class. He makes the lectures easy and the online work is good practice, but studying is definitely still necessary to pass the weekly quizzes. Partial credit is given on them, but they're heavily based off class so take notes and GO TO CLASS, trust me
I thought I was bad at math till I took his class. He explains everything clearly. Yes, the lectures can be long but very informative. He'll teach you how to solve long problems his way which was way easier than how the book taught it. Homework is not long and he gives optional practice problems to help you along. I would choose him every time.
Best math professor I have ever taken. Calc 2 is notoriously hard but he makes it easy. Very accessible outside of class. Does not use online homework which is a huge plus. Exams are not tricky. He made me want add a math minor.
Dr. Cornell is by far the best math professor I've ever had. He was ALWAYS in his office when I went to see him. He dropped the 2 lowest quiz grades. For my class, we had homework that was online which was harder than what we learned in class. I wish I could take him for all my math courses!
Best math professor I've ever had. He was difficult but his lectures are clear and easy to understand. Do all the practice problems you can and go to office hours and there's no reason you shouldn't succeed.
Prof. Cornell is an AMAZING professor! He makes Calc 1 very easy to understand. His tests are easy and it helps to do the textbook problems and look over quizzes while studying. 100% recommend!
I enjoyed lecture very much-Cornell has a dry sense of humor and is very blunt, but will answer any questions and make sure you understand the material. Super flexible if you need to miss a quiz date and will let you come in ahead of time if you have something going on on quiz day. Quizzes/tests are very similar to problems gone over in class.
THIS MAN IS A AMAZING PROFESSOR. HE MADE COLLEGE ALGERBA SO EASY. HIS TEST ARE NOT TO BAD DUE TO THE FACT THEIR PRETTY SIMPLE TO THE QUIZZES. TO ME I THOUGHT THE QUIZZES WERE HARDER THAN THE TEST ITSELF. HIS ALSO A GENIUS.
He is a math God. Super helpful and presents the material very clear. His tests are not super difficult but not super easy either. He does not use canvas or Pearson all of the material is written on the board and all of the homework is from the book. Lots of homework but if you do it you wont have to study for the exams.
GREAT professor!! Takes the time to thoroughly explain topics, do lots of examples, and gives tons of practice problems with opportunities for you to ask questions on anything before having to hand in hw or take quizzes/tests. Makes himself very available and if you work at it, you'll get out of the class what you put into it. Fun and happy too!
Hes an amazing professor, and is really good at explaining things and teaching. Attendance isnt mandatory but you wont pass if you dont show up. He gives extra credit and points on all quizzes, homework, and exams. If you ever need help, you can always go see him.
I had Professor Cornell for pre-calc. He is very lenient on homework grading and will give partial credit as long as you show your work. He has a lot of office hours and is more than willing to sit down with you and help you work on homework problems or concepts you don't understand. Do the suggested practice problems and the homework!
Professor Cornell seems tough on the exterior but isn't at all! I was terrified to go to his office hours but it has been the best decision I have made in the course! there are quizzes every Friday and as long as you go to class, actually do the hw, and do practice problems, you will be good! not an easy A, but can be if you put in the work!
Has really informative lectures. Gives lots of optional practice to help enhance the assigned homework. Not too much homework, can be done in less than an hour after lecture. Helpful and lots of office hours outside of class. Gives a quiz once a week, but gives plenty of time to learn material before being tested on it. Tests easy if you study.
If you are not good at calculus you better go to every class. He will make you work for you grade. Weekly quizzes are easy if you study the practice problems he gives for extra homework. Quizzes are just like the tests! At the end of the semester he dropped 2 quiz grades. He is flexible, just talk to him. Tests accounted for 80% of the final grade.
This man is an absolute math god. He knows everything, and he's pretty good at getting you to know too. As long as you stay up to date on your homework and practice problems, you should have no problems passing this class. He says "lemme give you some stuff to play with," at the end of every single class, I swear to god.
He gives out a lot of homework but most of it is practice. He also has a ton of office hours and is willing to help you on the homework during them. He does not use any online platform for this class, so you only need the physical textbook. As long as you keep up on the homework, you should pass.
Professor Cornell is very detail oriented, lectures are quick and time is used efficiently. Quizzes every friday based on the course work the previous week. Material builds on itself and if you miss a class you'll fall behind. Stay on top of the homework and come to class (AND ASK QUESTIONS) and you'll do well!
Although Calculus isn't a difficult class for some, he goes above and beyond to help those that struggling and gives almost daily homework and quizzes to buff your grade. He ends every class with "Now let me give you something to play with". Would/will continue to recommend to anyone looking to enjoy Calculus, made easy.
I'm a computer science major and am only taking this because I have to. He made us come in on a day we didn't have class to take a test because of the hurricane, instead of just adjusting like every other professor did. His recent test had a failing average which means he's making everything too hard for no reason.
He is an amazing math teacher.
The absolute greatest. Had him for Calc I, II, III. Organized, simplistic, able to explain topics in many ways. No technology, just the textbook, and a whiteboard. He's there when you need him, willing to help with anything. He's helped me plan my career, apply for jobs, apply for scholarships. It's great talking to him. I made this account for him
Cornell is a fantastic teacher. He cares for his students. Every week he gives a quiz. Also gives four exams. At the and of the semester he takes your lowest grade on the quiz. If you have trouble in the materials you should go in his office hours he will try his best to help you. He would make you work very hard to get an A in the class.
Posted video lectures twice a week. Usually 4 homework assignments and 1 quiz per week. The examples shown in the lecture tended to be easier than the problems given in the homework. Tests and quizzes were not proctored and there was plenty of time to finish them.
He is very easy to talk to. Go into office hours to get help with math you might end up talking about life after receiving the help. Although calculus and math, in general, can be difficult he does good lectures with a lot of examples. I don't recommend taking this class with a lot of other hardcore credit classes, you will want the time to study.
He made going from pre calculus to calculus an easy transition. He is also an amazing lecturer and is great at explaining things. He also assigns little homework. I would definitely take him again.
I took Mr. Cornells class for 1101C and I personally did not like it. He teaches way too quickly for me, he discusses two modules per lesson which for me is too much and it goes over my head. I had to withdraw due to his teaching not working for me. If you can learn on your own and can learn quickly, then youll do well in this class.
Sensational
Really hard class for me but he works with students who reach out to him and try in his class. He is also really knowledgeable in his field.
One of the best professors I've ever had. A genius with math and has very well formatted lectures. The material covered is a bit much but it's doable. He has very helpful office hours and genuinely cares about students understand the math. 2 midterms and a cumulative final, with either homework or a quiz each week.
Professor Cornell is a great professor. He helps outside of class. His office is always open to students. Just pay attention in class, go to office hours, and you will do great.
I have never learned anything better than I did with this professor. I would just watch him lecture and go through examples of calculus problems and would instantly understand it. I've never experienced anything like this with past math teachers. I would give him a 6 out of 5 if I could.
Professor Cornell is the best math professor I have ever had. Homework and quizzes alternating every week with three tests. He lectures for the full period, but the way he teaches the material helps it stick. His office is always open and he is happy to answer any question. Its obvious he cares. No canvas page, so get classmates numbers.
Great professor. Very good lectures and he basically lives in his office as per what he stated, GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS. He will help you tremendously if you reach out. BUT, his lectures are pretty lengthy, fast-paced, no breaks between, 2-3 chapters done per class. MAKE SURE FINAL IS CUMULATIVE AND NOT JUST TRIG. Everything is easy compared to trig
Cornell is a living legend. I have him in Calculus 2 honors right now and he's literally the best professor I've ever had. If you're serious about mathematics, I highly recommend taking him. His lectures are extremely well planned out and he gives a good amount of homework and practice problems.
Be prepared to go through topics VERY quickly. As in, 2 topics per class quickly. If math is your favorite subject you will do well in his class. If you struggle in math I would not recommend. His quizzes don't match his lectures. No reviews or study guides. Lots of mymathlab homework due twice a week. You will need to do well on your own to pass.
He's very knowledgeable in his field. His quizzes and exams are challenging yet fair. He will provide you with all that you need for success, all you have to do is apply the necessary effort.
He offers online videos of his lectures for you to access whenever. The Friday reviews with the TAs before each quiz will save you, there is a quiz each Friday and if there isn't a quiz that week... that's because there's an exam! 4 exams including final, each worth 20% of your grade. Homework and Quizzes each make up 10%. Don't recommend him tbh.
coolest math prof yet, took him for calc 1. very clear and gives a handful of examples for each topic for clarity. will address any question even if you think its dumb
Professor Cornell is the best math teacher that I have ever had; his lectures are very easy to follow along, his TAs are the nicest and most helpful people, and he is always available for extra help during office hours or via email. Would definitely take again if I could!
One of the best professors ever!!! Lectures were amazing! Must go to them or you will fall behind! Office hours are super helpful! Not a ton of homework! Study and you will do great!! Im excited to have him again next semester!! Highly recommend! (:
Great professor but be prepared for long lectures. Only 3 exams but weighted heavily.
Professor Cornell is genuinely one of the best math instructors I've ever had. I took him for Honors Calc 1 and plan to take take him again for Calc 2. He has an incredibly strong understanding of the material and a unique ability to convey this knowledge to his students and use it to his advantage when breaking down topics and answering questions.
Prof. Cornell is one of the best teachers I've had. Lectures prepare you for anything you'll see on HW/quiz/test, lots of examples given in class.. Almost always available outside of class and gives time for reviewing in class. HW following each lecture unless a quiz is coming up. These reviews are all right about him, take him if you can.
He's the best professor i've ever had. His lectures make sense, he answers any questions you have. Really nice, will be your friend. Hell accept your late work but dont take adventage of it. 100% recommend!
Not great, wouldn't take him again.
If you skip class you won't pass. He gives you all the information you need in lectures for quizzes and exams, but his lectures are almost two hours long. He talks in a monotone voice and moves along each subject rather quickly. Keeping up with him will be difficult if you don't have good background knowledge from previous math classes.
I struggle with math a lot but I loved him. Doesn't use Canvas except to upload past lectures which was great. Gives partial credit when grading and your final grade ends up being 25% HW/Quizzes, 50% Midterms (2 exams each worth 25%), and 25% Final. Dropped the lowest 2 HW/Q and gave really clear study guides for the exams. 10/10 would take again!!
Cornell is amazing. I took him for Calc 1 and 2 and would take him for every math class he offers. Lectures are very well planned out and examples match the quizzes and tests. Almost always available for office hours and has a great personality. Take him if you can.
Business Calculus was the hardest class I've taken yet at UNF but Cornell is a calculus genius who will teach you everything you need to know in a short amount of time, nobody does it like him. If you skip class, you won't pass. If you don't prepare for the exams, you won't pass. The class is hard but you made a right move taking it with Cornell.
This class is DIFFICULT (especially for someone like me who is awful at math), but if I had to choose any professor to take a difficult class with it would be Professor Cornell. He is available for help during office hours at almost all times of the day, and he genuinely respects his students. Bring a big notebook!!
This man is a genius. Best professor I've ever taken. Best personality too. He literally sets you up for success. Don't think just take him.
A literal math genius.
he's truly the best! I was struggling a lot at the beginning of the semester and kept getting average grades and he was willing to help. he can be a little intimidating at first bc he is not that professor that cares all about ur life but he truly does know his material and is very on topic. don't be afraid to go to his office hours & get help
Professor Cornell was great! He makes everything clear what is going to be on the test and quizzes. Every time I went into a quiz or a test I never saw any new material that we never covered. His lectures are not required but I highly recommend you attend his lectures. You will need to study outside of his class and do your homework.
Cornell is a good teacher and gives understandable lectures but is challenging to ask for help. I went in to his office hours multiple times to ask for help with concepts and he said I wasn't trying hard enough and if I actually tried and practiced it would've made sense. Gave weekly quizzes on content, two homeworks a week, and four exams.
Honestly, his lectures are very straightforward. As long as you attend class and complete the homework, you should be fine. 80% of your grade is determined by exams + the final so be careful of that.
Teaches you exactly what you need to know, is incredibly accommodating, and is a must take for calculus classes.
Lectures are expertly performed, he encourages questions. He explains concepts so well. He allows for extra time during quizes and tests. 3 tests are 75% and HW and Quizzes are 25%. Office hours are helpful. Assigns alot of practice problems but only 1/4 of them are actually due. Doesn't use canvas. My favorite professor ever. Respect.
80 percent of the grade is exams with a horrible study guide. My class had a 70 percent fail rate and no grade curve. If you are not good at math do not come to this class you will fall behind, do a more forgiving teacher. You spend hours on homework and it's not work anything.
Cornell provides a lot of in-depth explanation. He teaches fast at first but you will get used to it since he provides a lot of perspectives to view the material effectively.
Cornell teaches at a fast pace at first which you will get used to. He provides a lot of explanation and homework material to make sure you understand the topic from different perspectives in case you do not understand it initially. He also drops the lowest 2 grades of both HW/quizzes and 2 tests.
Do not take this class, if you need this class for your degree do not take Cornell. Most of my class failed and is not a good option.
Professor Cornell's class is no easy feat, but if you stay engaged and utilize study aids like unstuckstudy ai, you can succeed. Attend lectures, do the homework, and you'll get through this challenging yet rewarding course.
Fantastic professor that gets to the point in his lectures and makes things clear and concise allowing for all students a chance to ask for clarification, provides plenty of practice and exams are very clearly taken from material that was previously shown in lectures.
Class was split 25/25/25 for exams and 25 for quizzes/homework. Gives the best lectures I have had for any class period. Does tons of examples, answers any questions you have during class, and is easily accessible outside of class in office hours. Go to office hours, ask for help, and do the homework, you'll do fine.
Calc. 2 is hard, and this is the professor you want to have for it. He does example after example, always provides good feedback, test are reasonable with the homework, and he's always available to help outside of class. Study, do the homework, and make sure to practice, this class is manageable with his great lectures.
I took calc 1 with Prof. Cornell last spring after a friend recommended his class. He's a great professor and will work with you. Wouldn't call this is an easy class but the class workload felt very fair and the material was taught very well. Heads up there will be many quizzes.
He is by far the BEST math professor at UNF. Gave us sufficient amount of homework so we got practice, was very in depth for lectures, did many examples, and overall a great guy. If you ever have to take a math class, take it with him. His office hours are also very beneficial.
Overall, the course itself is a lot of material, and he goes over it fast so you have to write fast. He has 2 midterms and a final, as well as a lot of homework. Attending office hours is the best thing to do if you're even remotely struggling because he is very kind, non-judgmental, and patient. For exams he gives very helpful study guides too.
Cornell's lectures are very helpful. He gives plenty of examples and even guides us through problems that WILL be like the test. He gives us time in the beginning of class to answer any questions we might have on homework, quizzes, and even old tests. He will do his best to make as easy and understandable for you.
Honestly, he was a chill guy, like a dad. He taught well & knew his material. Was very accessible outside class & willing to help. Once I went to him for help on the homework and he walked me through all of it. He's very quiet and stoic but wants to help his students anyway he can. only issue, i never felt prepared for tests, they didn't reflect hw
This guy is amazing. If you dread the word calculus, take him. He will break things down to where it makes the course not so intimidating. Watch his video lectures online before taking exams and work the problems he does on your own while watching the videos, it saved me!
I took the honors section of the course, and while it was challenging it was absolutely doable. Although attendance was not mandatory, he doesn't post the lecture notes so if you miss a day you'll need to get notes from a classmate or you'll miss out on material. That being said, his lectures are well executed and he's willing to help if you ask.
Best professor ever
Only wish he offered Calculus III next Fall. If you put in the effort you will pass. Fantastic teacher.
Professor Cornell gives you the resources you need to succeed in a challenging class. He is easy to reach, gives relevant assignments, and hands back quizzes/homework with great feedback. I'd recommend him to anyone planning to take Calculus at UNF.
his teaching is pretty digestable and hes always on campus. i had a 59 on the first exam and locked in and got a 89 on the final. every week i went to his office hours to ask about the hw/exams/quizzes. i suggest that if ur bad at math, you should go to tutoring and rewatch the lecture videos. (warning: grades are not posted on canvas)
He is a great professor. When people say study, you need to. I didnt study and got to a point where I couldnt catch up. I would suggest having a really good math background. He is very homework heavy. Homework and quizzes on alternating weeks. He will do what he can to help you.
I dropped the class because he did not use Canvas. He does not post notes after a lecture either.
Worst professor I ever had! The exams were fr insane. He makes Calculus more complex than it needs to be by writing pointless definitions on the board and teaching every concept known to god verbatim from the text-book. I took a different professor and passed Calculus, it shouldn't be this hard trust me. My favor to you - as an engineering student.
Prof. Cornell is by far the best math professor I've ever had. I am definitely not a math or science person but he explains the topics so clearly the math doesn't seem impossible. Very caring, non-judgemental, and wants you to pass. And go to office hours if you are struggling!
From a person who is okay at math, he definitely over prepares you for this class. We'd cover every topic within a chapter for the most part each week was either a homework assignment or quiz, and exams every 3-4 weeks or so depending on the material. He honestly does care about his students and grades with partial credit, which was a huge help.
Professor Cornell is the best calculus professor I have ever had. He is easily accessible and wants you to pass. He will point out weaknesses to you personally in hopes that you take the constructive criticism and make improvements. Highly Recommend!
