He's very intersting, but the class curriculum is a bit boring.

Great instructor! Makes sure you don't leave class without understanding notes
very nice and very helpful. He actually cares about how you are doing in class.
Very Nice Teacher, Very Accomodating
really helpful.
Tres gentil, and extremely sweet! One of the most patient and hardworking teacher I've met in a long time.
He is a very nice guy, very helpful and his tests/quizes... are very EASY.... if you studied... very easy marking teacher... explain things very well.... and he's very cute too
A nice teacher. I was put out at first by his calling on people every class, but by the end of the term my Frech oral and listening improved a lot. It's not hard to get a good grade from him either as long you studied. Overall a helpful teacher.
yeah, this is a good one, earnest, cares. i had to drop his class half way and he still says hi in the hall
THE best teacher I've had in a while. He actually CARES about his students, and is VERY helpful. He's really funny too! Overall, he's really easy (as long as you put some work into the course), so it's not hard to get an A.

Excellent teacher - fair, clear, great control of his class. Very clear speaker
hes a good teacher but you have to do a lot of studying and he calls on people every class i had to drop the class because it was to much work
very nice teacher!
very good and nice teacher!
He is very genteel and nice.He gave you enough time to let you pepare for the exams. He is patient. And he will tell you a lot of interesting things about France and Quebec. He is also a easy marker,if you work hard ,you can get A easily.
I hated being in class (I don't learn by calling out my answers in a horrifically butchered "french" accent) but it had nothing to do with him. I had a much better experience with GIS. He is very approachable and kind. Highly recommended.
Kind of a cute little french man with neat stories about France and Quebec. Provides clear explanations and is very approachable. Enjoyable class.
Outstanding instructor. Very effective, making excellent use of time, his and yours. Regularly informs when homework is due and when upcoming exams are. Exam hints to students attending every class. Excellent attn. to detail and of pleasant humour. A+!
very fun class! Best french teacher I've ever had. Makes all students speak out in class but never embarasses or makes a student uncomfortable.
Funny man, never feel bored at his class. Very helpful and informative about French.
He is an excellent teacher. I recommend him to everyone. He's teaching style is very enjoyable and fun and exams are not hard as long as you're on top of everything. If you're not doing so well in this class then it surely is your fault.
Great teacher! hilarious! Willing to help, wants everyone to do well. Don't skip a lot of class and defn don't talk when he's talkinng (i know first hand!) If you particiapte and read over text book and handouts anyone should do fine. He's such a cute little man!
he's a very nice and helpful professor..Don't ever come late or come unprepared for class becuz he doesn't like it and he'll yell at someone.. He's very nice and friendly teacher
THE BEST TEACHER!!! HE IS SUPER CUTE AND VERY HELPFULL. I LOVED BEING TAUGHT BY HIM!
although i didn't do well in his class, he's a good instructor. fair marker. finish all the exercises before class, or he'll yell at you for coming to class unprepared and asks you to leave. friendly to *good* students
Nice and funny. If you come to class, do ALL the homework regularly, and study well you can get an A.
Attend class, do the homework and he will jump through hoops to help you. A really nice man.

Good teacher, I got an A in his class
Fanstatic teacher
A beautiful teacher. He actually CARES about every student in class and puts 100% of his ability into every class to help YOU. I take his class now and the only negative ratings may come from those who are lasy.He is kind ,gentle ,patient ,very intelligent ,humorous, encouraging.Participate and he will help you to get through the tests.A+++ teacher.
Hugues est un homme adorable et un grand professeur!
He is one of the best teachers around, he is helpful and very clear when he is teaching. He interacts very well with his students. If you want to learn french, take him.
il est sympathique et patient! he is the BEST teacher i've ever had. just show up for classes, be concentrated and hand in all the h/w, then, u will be fine. i got a+ this semester. he is helpful and kind. classes r not boring. rmb to PREPARE for classes! i strongly recommend him if u r not a slacker. i look forward to his class.
such a sweeeettttt guy he is by far the best french teacher on campus. he is very specific and precise which is necessary especially in a subject like french which can be hard having so many exceptions. but he makes it pretty clear but u do have to work hard urself too.alot
He is the best french teacher I have ever had. He takes the time to make sure you understand everything. Even though he speaks in french the entire time (all of them do it) you don't even realize it because he brings it down to your level and repeats himself if necessary. He really makes the effort to make sure you understand all the course materia
well, I had done well on my french classes until I took his. The first 3 days of class he had my head spinning. Talked too fast, too much info at once, and no time to process the stuff! I liked french...but I had to drop him early, early on. Ah...I'm sure he is a "nice" guy but...
amazing, excellent, patient, nice

Best French teacher ever! You just have to try and show that u are interested and he will help lots! He is a great person too. I got an A+ by showing up to class and trying....thats it. He truly wants you to succeed.
he talks slowly and exams are easy. wut can i say, the best french pro in langara
He's super nice and pretty entertaining. As long as you go to class, it's very easy to get a good mark. He explains things well and is very helpful! He's a great teacher!
Very: patient, willing to help, clear, interesting, authentic frenchman, easy marker, friendly. Though his class I'm now taking is the earliest french class (08:30), but I chose the right thing! He only wants his students to get good marks by creating tests which the students'll b able 2 answer easily.
Hughes is extremely helpful & patient! I really enjoyed his classes! Highly recommended!
amongst all the professors i've had, i can officially say that he is the only one who actually cares about his students. i was having personal problems of my own, and he actually pulled me aside and encouraged me to do well. he's told me not to let "outside forces" to hinder my well-being both academically and personally. a fair marker.
I thought he was really mean :( He wasn't mean to me but he was mean to others in my class, he would yell at them if they didn't understand him because he speaks really fast. I felt bad for them. Otherwise his tests were really fair and the course was pretty easy overall.
I like the way he teaches. He pushes his students hard. Fun teacher. The best compare to other teachers. Highly recommended!!!
the best eveeer!
He is nice and patient. The best the instructor at Langara...
he is really nice guy, he tried to be friendly with all students in class. must take his class! he lectures with good explanation n clear voice
Pretty good guy- terrible teacher. Get ready to simply trudge through the text book, page by page, exercise by exercise... No engagement with the class or anything. Just blah blah blah.... A really lazy teacher.
Nice person, not hard, boring teacher. I find it unfair how he doesnt expect work handed-in in time from EVERYBODY-there were lots of ppl who never came to class nor hand in papers on time, he doesnt fail them or anything, keeps on asking them to bring it in. Thats not fair to others who have worked hard in order to get work done by the deadline.
One of the worst teachers I've had at Langara. He tends to pick on his students. He makes you uncomfortable. Beyond that he's not necessary good at teaching french. He follows the textbook and doesn't make learning enjoyable. If you're taking more than one class consider dropping it by september, it's a lot of work.
Both my roommate and I have taken 1115 and 1117 with him. He was very patient, nice, and encouraging. He was like a grandpapa for me. However, any language class takes you a lot of time and this class is not an exception. If you are genuinely love French and willing to put time and effort, you will do well!
Such a good teacher! I was in french immersion for 6 years and this is the only teacher that has been able to help me understand all of the different tenses. Very helpful, if you have a question he will happily answer. The textbook is used everyday, but it is very helpful to have something for reference when you are lost during a lecture.Great guy.
i cannot stand this class, the fact that i have to take 1217 with him makes me want to pull my hair out. he's a nice person but i need someone who can teach. his class is unbearable. i watch the clock and wait until class is over. i hate the fact that he calls on people. i'm saying that... and i'm getting a B+. its a good thing we have the text!
Took 3 courses so far at Langarawith 3 different instructors, and Mr. Thrieutl is by far the best
he is a really good teacher! must take his french class
Less picking, more interaction would be great. Refer to the book more often so students know what you're doing! Plus, he always rushes to do exams right after lessons. I find I don't have enough time to study or review anything. Just guh! But I think I'll still get an A+ this semester.
HE'S GREAT
French is not my favourite subject, but I quite enjoyed his classes. He's probably one of the nicest people I've ever met, was always super friendly and honestly wants his students to do well. If you keep up with the textbook the class is easy, he does call on everyone though so you have to do your homework.
A good sense of fairness, and very friendly, very helpful. Explains everything clearly. Just a good all around personality. Best French teacher at this school.
Hughes says he reads these comments, so I'm going to write snide remarks on purpose. He's neither a good nor bad teacher. Quite neutral. There is AT LEAST 1 quiz or test every week, so you have to keep up with the readings and homework. I really like how he gave bonus marks if you got perfect on a page of a test. Aural/oral tests were easy.
i've had multiple terrible teachers throughout my life and hughes is by far the worst teacher i've ever had the misfortune of meeting. i know you read this, and you should know not to assume who the students are from these posts. i had a passion for the french language, & you killed that. i was going to move to quebec next yr, not anymore. failure!
He's a truly awful teacher. Try to take French with another instructor if you can. He doesn't make it enjoyable.
Nice person. But class is boring! This is a language course, have your students INTERACT! Also, please don't just stare at the textbook, look up from time to time, asking questions is hard because you won't notice us. And pls stop making jokes on students, you think we laugh along because it's funny, but some of your comments are mildy offensive.
A fantastic prof - pushes his students so don't expect to slack off and get a good grade. I highly recommend his class. Sweet and funny guy whose temper does occasionally flare, but he's French!
Hughes is an amazing man! Full of passion and great stories, he is very helpful in class and gets everyone involved. If you come to class everyday and keep up with your honework, you'll do extremely well.
Hughes is hands down the best teacher i have ever had. he is extremely nice and very patient. he has rekindled my love for the french language. I very much urge anyone to take his class if you want to learn french. He is an utterly amazing teacher. I wish i was able to take his class throughout my intire school carreer. Hughes is the best teacher!
Fantastic teacher. Hughes doesn't tolerate useless chatting which is refreshing as previous classes have catered too much to non-serious students. He is thorough, direct and will give you as much back as you put it. Certainly caters to a more mature student body. Thank You. It's been a pleasure taking your class!
Took the GIS version of this course with him, and he always replied to my e-mails ASAP. Knows his stuff, and is very friendly.
He is so delightful! Very supportive and helpful. Hands down best teacher i have ever had.
This guy is typical of college instructors with no ambition. He has been teaching the same courses for 22 years. Talk about complacency. I am a top student - I have an MA in philosophy and a BSc in Psyc. I would say that this guy is phoning it in, but he seems reluctant to pick up the phone, and he has taken as long as two weeks to respond to email
Monsieur Theriault is so sweet. He always has a smile when he walks into class. I love how he tells short stories here and there about his own life and experiences. My only "complaint" is that students never had the chance to converse with one another in class, only in response to the teacher. His lecture format is a little repetitive.
The man is very funny. He should be in show business.
He is nice but he sometimes speaks in French without realizing that we are only beginners. Overall, he is nice and friendly. Plus, you don't have to wait for your test result for so long because he returns your test result the day after you take the test.
Hughes is very nice and funny. He helps you a lot before the mid-terms. I had the feeling that I was always well prepared. He uses ONLY the textbook so make sure you have it before the class starts. There are dictations every week, some homework and 3 mid-terms. Overall a great introduction to the French language - merci!
Very nice and very funny. He made French fun and seems to actually care about helping his students to succeed. Highly recommend taking his classes!
A great teacher and a great person. his classes is very easy and fun; full of laughter and excitement. he's got a great personality, and seems to really cares about his students. Highly recommended.
I know he teaches in another college now. I miss him. Hw was the best.
