One of the most boring classes ever. Must go to class to know how to do test problems. Midterm easy but final hard.
not bad... if u skip class ur screwed. pretty easy if u keep up
Professor Junghenn was a good teacher. Class was a bit boring at times, but if you pay attention and do the homework, the class is VERY easy. He's always got a smile on his face too.
He is VERY bad at explaing ANYTHING, even if it is EASY. Midterm was easy but then he skrews you over with a really hard final. Going to class won't help you that much in doing h/w problems. His lectures are very confusing. You better have a helpful TA.
He spends way too much time deriving formulas and very little time explaining how to apply them. Everything I learn is from the book or Recitation. Class is almost untolerably boring, but the quizzes so far and midterm have been simple.
Exams and quizes are easy, hes a bad teacher though. Do the homework. and go to him for help if u dont understand something.
im goin to make one thing clear. the man CAN'T teach! he cant. i learned more w/ my high school math teacher. his class is easy but u wont learn much. u have to teach yourself everything. he quizes are real easy. the final is all tweaked quiz problems that is less difficult than it is time consumin
Can't teach, you def have to teach yourself everything. His quizzes and midterm were really easy but his final was ridic hard.
Take hime for Math 52...ridiculously easy. I think I went to half the classes and still came out of that class with an A.

Worst class ever! So boring. He often put a problem on the board and forgot how to do it. Horrible! My TA and high school calc teacher are the only reasons I survived!
nice guy, trys to make funny comments, its a HARD class you have to work at it, sometimes its hard to hear him because he talked to the board when he writes but overall hes not that bad
doesnt force u to do homework or come to class... thats why u get nothing done! only take this class if u know ur calculus already
If you want an A, read the textbook and do the problems. If you dont get a decent grade, then its probably not his fault. His tests are reasonable and you can get away with not coming to class and just reading out of the text.
Very dedicated prof, but he spends so much time telling you how he got a theorm/equation and not enough time telling you how to apply them. You can miss class and still do okay. Recitations are helpful and TA is good. HW not needed. Quizzes easy. Exams harder and generally based off quizzes. Very nice prof and likes to make jokes all the time.
If you read (and understand) the text book and do the problems at the end of each chapter you should be fine... class is not really worthwhile going if you're gong to read the text
He isn't a very good teacher, but the problems on his quizes are very basic compared to other professors. But you basically have to teach your self.
An absolutely horrible teacher. His lectures were usually spent with him trying in vain to do one or his homework problems. His TA was inept too, but at least he could solve some of the problems.
Like most math professors, Junghenn is in his own world. Go to class to reinforce what you're reading in the textbook, but don't rely on his lectures to get you far. Best way to handle this class: Read the textbook, do the problems, and go to Kerry's (the amazing TA) office hours.
Did ok in the class despite never being a good math student. Some lectures are completely unnecessary. Do the homework, consistently, and you should do ok. Be prepared to learn a lot of the material on your own, though he is very helpful when you meet with him individually.
Very disorganized lectures, often spends time just going over HW probs that he messes up on. Sometimes spend 45 min doing hw and 15 min on a lecture. HW is ridiculous, about 30 probs a week. Have to learn it yourself, he doesnt teach too well. Easy easy easy easy exams. Take him for the sheer easiness of the exams. Even open book exams easy as hell
most tests were open book. the classes were horribly boring, but that is mostly the subject. the worst is waiting for problems to be solved.
*open book tests* As far as Math 33 goes, its mostly intuitive material that does not require much studying. The stuff at the beginning (Ch. 13) and the very end (surface integrals and Stokes theorem) is a little confusing, other than that it is all very easy. Final was more involved than midterms, but still managable. HW was the wort part--graded
Lectures weren't that great, but they didn't need to be because of how easy the tests were. Homework graded and gone over in (optional) recitation. Don't take if you're not that great at math independently as you will probably have to teach yourself the more difficult concepts. But an easy A if you know the math.
yeah yeah whatever... fine tests were easy but the HW will bring down your grade. He doesnt prepare you on how to solve the hard problems, assigns the hardest book problems and grades it. Something happened... I got a 90 on the 2nd midterm and 100 on the end of semester quiz but he gave me a B+. Unless I bombed the final it was b/c of HW. screw him
Overall, not a very good teacher, but the class ends up being pretty easy cause the tests are easy. I tried calc 32 with baginski and was failing, so i dropped it. this semester, i took jughenn and got a b with little effort. homework is part of your grade, and it actually ended up lowering my average cuz its graded by the TA
The worst math professor I've ever had. I went from an A in Calc 1 to C's. Terrible at explaining concepts. Tons of weekly graded homework but he doesn't even know how to do a lot of the problems he assigns. Wastes too much time at beginning of class going over homework problems. Don't take his class unless you can teach yourself.
he is a TERRIBLE teacher but obviously a really cool guy... you can tell he's got all kinds of secret**** going on and drinks secretly from a flask during class
Out of all my life of constantly taking and spending time in Math, this was the first class that completely broke and destroyed me inside and outside apart. Up until I started taking this particular Math class, I have been the top Math student and aced through all of my Math class until I met Junghenn. Thanks to him, I officially hate Math and him.
Not a very good professor. You have to be able to teach yourself the material. Tests and homework are on the easier side. Go to recitation, your TA is always a great help.
He knows how to prove, but doesn't know how to teach.
one of the worst
He is a simply copying examples from book. He has no skill to lecture. It is boring as a hell. He also makes a lot of mistakes during lecture which brings you a wrong way of solving problem. So, useless lecture, useless professor but useful homework. You have to learn by yourself from homework.
Hugo is the man. Go to class, take notes. I opened the textbook only once. He's easily side tracked, which slows down the pace of the class a lot--which is a good thing. He has a magical grading structure where if he likes you, you'll do fine.
ugh i hated this class...hes really not a good teacher he can barely solve his own problems and gives the hardest questions for the hw...the only saving grace is that he drops your lowest test grade which helps..overall i wouldnt recommend
If you took any form of high school algebra you should be more than well off in this class. Use your recitations as a way to learn if you get confused because as a teacher this guy is slow and boring, not to mention unhelpful. The class itself is a drag but its an easy A so just put up with it and move on to math 52 if you have to
this class is a joke. the homework problems are the same problems that are on the test. all you need to do is study the home work problems!!!! going to class isnt mandatory, but i would recommend it so you dont fall behind, overall easy A take this class
Terrible teacher...homework problems are a drag and take a long time. tests are easy but since theyre only out of 29 pts it is easy to screw up.
Terrible Professor
He's not a great professor. In lecture, he teaches the very basics, while the homework has overly difficult questions that neither he nor the book explains. The hw website sucks. He wastes class time talking about what you'll do next semester. The exams are easy - it's what he teaches in class. It's not hard to get an A.
He is a very funny and nice guy, but a lot of people don't like him. His class is pretty boring, but very easy, and he makes is tests about as easy as possible. Also, look out for the random cowboy hats he wears sometimes.
This class is recommended for whom is confident in calculus. You don have to attend a class, just show up in the exam. All exams are almost same with hw problems(diff. values).Take this class with your friend who is good at math cause it's really easy to cheat on the exams. Highly recommend!
I don't know why people freak out about this guy. Yes he's boring, but he's also very easy and why do you need to have this stuff hand fed? 90% of people take this b/c they are required and he knows that. The hw can be hard, but it counts for very little and he gives you points for missing assignments, etc. Quizzes are online...come one
He's a funny and nice guy. Lectures are really boring but you really only need to go for like 5 minutes to turn in the homework. Tests were amazingly easy as long as you know the stuff from doing homework.
He's a bad professor in explaining the material. He's assighment always in web assighn and always we have to follow what webassighn wants or other wise we won't get it right. He's not a nice person or a student listener. He's tests are waaaay easy as long as you study the H.W it shows in the test with different numbers.
Hugo is a nice guy but the class is extremely boring. Most of it revolves around online assignments. The material is pretty easy at first but then gets harder towards the end. The tests are very similar to the practice exams he gives you.
Junghenn rocks!!
Don't Take any Class with him,Aside from the fact that he bores the crap out of people, It's more frustrating to be marked down and loose points because he doesn't show you how to enter responses on the online assignment. Plus the Quiz/Test are completly different from the online book-assignments...STAY AWAY, FOR SURE,,,DON'T
Worst math experience of my life. Going to class is useless because he doesn't explain concepts, instead just spends the whole time muttering to himself about practice problems that he does on the board. Tests are moderatly difficult. The class basically just chugs along and you are expected to do the online assaignments
Hugo's class is very boring, especially at 8am on a Friday, and goes over lots of examples, but not necessarily the concepts. The online assignments are not hard, but the program is a nightmare. Easy to do well on the tests if you study the homework problems: the test questions are similar to the homework.
Very nice professor. Don't have to go to class to get a good grade. Tests are exactly like the homework online, if not easier. Good class.
He is possibly the worst teacher I have ever had in my life. His class is painfully boring and he could care less about his students. He made one of our tests extra hard because he thought the class average was to high. The average on the test was 65 and he refused to curve it. This man should not be teaching period.
Wow. What a useless teacher. Not only does he not teach you ANYTHING, he spends the entire class doing proofs that nobody cares about. The only ray of light in this farce of a course was our TA Dave Shoup who went to GREAT LENGTHS to attempt to teach a class that the professor wasn't even attempting to. EVERYONE failed the last two tests.
Worst Teacher Ever. Good class to tank your GPA. If averages are below 63 still will not curve. If you're good at cheating, this is your class.
Boring professor!! the last few tests the avaregae was below 65! he did not curve! I went to every class and still did not learn a thing!! Webassign homework does not help at all!!! Buisness math is not supposed to be that difficult, take another professor! I had him for Math 51 also! do not make my mistake!
Hugo is a nice and gentle guy, his tests are very similar to Webassgisn. People didn't do well because some of them have never been to class and didn't read textbook. I got an A in Math52,it's not that hard.
By far the worst and most unhelpful teacher I've ever had. I'm currently sitting in his class as he is on his 5th attempt to complete one of his own webassign problems. I have attended every class and the only reason i'm passing is because my boyfriend (a college freshman also) is a better teacher than he is.
Hugo is straight out of the book. He is the worst professor but going to lecture does help. He occasionally throws curve balls on his tests, but cheating is easy. Please go for another teacher he really is a bore and made calculus literally impossible unless you have taken it before. Hurts ur GPA, stay away.
I am not a fan of this professor. Math is usually relatively easy for me to understand, but I couldn't follow a thign Hugo was trying to teach us. I don't recommend him...seriously, find ANY other teacher available!
i took both courses with him and he is HORRIBLE!! he does not teach anything!! No mandatory attendance, Home works on online. He gives out 3 tests which is very similiar to homeworks on online
best. teacher. ever<3
His test were extremly hard and he doesn't give out any partical credit, which is critical in math class. There is only 10 question on the test but one question worth your letter grade. HW are easy. No need to goto class.
he is such a smart guy he just has trouble getting all the info across to students. definetly see him for help(he keeps it in mind during grading) and hit up the tutoring center and try your best!!
This professor does not teach at all. His exams are completely different of what he "teaches" in class. He is not helpful at all and smiles every time he gives you a bad grade.
This professor does not teach vary well. I learned all my stuff from the book. I went to class and most of the time the material was not on the test. He told the class that he was going to give the class a Final that no one could finish in time. We have PhD econ. students, no one finished. If you need a good grade in ODE a recommend that you do not
This class only had 3 people in it and one actually ended up dropping halfway. However, I found him to be VERY helpful and always willing to explain if you go to office hours. While I would get confused sometimes, I still did well and learned a ton about the subject. You use his own unpublished text in the class and he is extremely knowledgeable.
Boring class. Pop quizzes once a week and MANY homework assignments. I had to teach myself the class.
Not very good at explaining the material. I had to teach myself through the book but it was not very hard to learn. I got a C on the midterm and final, but he curves SOOOO much that I was able to get an A.
I LIKE HIM SOOOOOO MUCH
Buy text book. Text book will help your way out then he will do in the lectures.
This Professor was horrible. His lectures were pointless and he would give pop quizzes on things we hadn't learned yet. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE
Lectures were long, and confusing. To be honest I skipped a lot because I didn't get anything from them anyways. But you have to show up once a week because there are weekly quizzes. The midterm wasn't that difficult, final was tougher. Avoid if you can. If not, you'll have to study outside of lecture and you should be fine.
This is an applied math class taught through proofs. Hugo is useless, patronizing, and overall a terrible professor. Spends lectures aimlessly proving his own theories, then assigns hwk that has nothing to do with anything. If you ask him questions during office hours, he just speaks to you like you are stupid. Exams are unfairly hard, AVOID AVOID!
Lectures pointless. Assignments werent taught and he didnt bother to review them. Tests had nothing to do with what he taught. When people were confused he just got angry if we kept asking questions. You use his unpubished textbook for class, which is just as bad as he is. Solutions he hands out make no sense and have errors. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Horrible
He's very knowledgeable in high mathematics, however he's not very good at explaining concepts. He derives many formulae but he doesn't explain why he does each step and how it relates to physical space (e.g. area under the curve). Many people stopped going to lectures and read from the textbook. He curves the midterm and final a small amount.
Find a different calc professor, its worth the effort
Worst professor ever. Find a different calc professor at all costs. He doesn't explain any of the work he does in class and often times doesn't know how to finish the problems. He is horribly offensive and doesn't care about his students at all. Do not take his class unless you hate yourself.
If you have Professor Junghenn, you are probably taking an extremely difficult high math class. I had him for multi-variable calculus which was a difficult because of the material. In the face of very daunting and advanced math, professor Junghenn is really good at explaining incredibly difficult concepts. He is great at helping you understand it.
In high school I only took PreCalc, was the easiest class I ever took, so I didn't expect too much difficulty with this. WRONG. It seems as though Hugo is very smart, but he CAN NOT translate that in lecture. He just does random problems on the board in class, with little to no explanation. Tests are nothing like homework or in-class problems.
For MATH1232 (Single-Variable Calc2), I'd recommend. Not the best lecturer, puts problems straight on the board w/out conceptually introducing lessons, teaches quickly BUT his tests are pretty easy (hw Qs were harder, so...) and plenty of hw to bring up your grade, & follows the textbook perfectly, so if you dislike lectures, just read, you'll pass
Awful at explaining, and often makes mistakes.
Do not take this class unless you want to teach yourself. Lectures are a waste of time, as the professor does not explain what he is doing. However, tests are not hard, and the professor drops the lowest test grade.
Pretty much one of the worst profs I had. He does example problems on the board without even saying the topic (what he's doing.) He gives partial credit on tests, and you can still pass if you get a lot of the problems wrong. WebAssign HW is very frequent and often gives you few points for excessive work. If you've already had calc take this class.
I have Professor Hugo in my freshman year. He is an amazing teacher. There is only three exams and one final for the whole semester. The questions on the exams are easy and he didn't even ask you for solving the answer. Just few steps. He also allows us to use cheat sheet for each exams. Highly suggested. I got an A at the end.
Boring
lectures are basically going over too many proofs. He does not even introduce what he is gonna talk about so TEACH YOURSELF. HIs midterms are easy but graded out of few points so be well-prepared because one question worths a lot. HW is pretty helpful for practice. Not that tough at grading. Final is a bit harder. you will pass if u work hard
His classes are very easy to pass. He is not great at lecturing and it is often hard to follow along, but the homework is very similar to the exams. Showing up for the class is not worth it as long as you study because he talks mostly about proving the material with proofs. There is also a very generous curve at the end.
Do not take! Really not worth it. Find a different professor unless you want to teach yourself.
Real Analysis is an extremely hard class that is proof based. He rarely did a proof all the way through even though we had to do them for homework and tests. His solution keys were useless and so was the textbook. Horrible experience.
He is fun and hilarious. I learned a lot from his class! If you are interested in learning real analysis, I definitely recommend him. He wrote 2? 3? books for real analysis and he is an expert in the field.
You teach yourself. 6-9 hours of HW a week, lectures are hard to follow. TA is very helpful. However, he cares about students and has a very generous curve, esp if you improve after the midterm. Also tries to give a break in the middle of lecture and talk about random things for 5 minutes - you get some wild stories.
Prof. Junghenn is a good professor and a nice guy. Course is straightforward: read the chapter, write down the theorems, do the homework, take the quiz, repeat. The homework is long (8 hr. per week) but very helpful. Weekly quizzes, but most are an easy A. Exams are similar to the homework. Go to lecture just to enjoy his hilarious sarcasm.
Worst professor I have ever had. Incomprehensible lectures that make no sense and he goes on tangents frequently. Is barely able to explain what he's doing. Grades solely off of a midterm, final, few quizzes, and online HW. Do not take his class if you have a choice.
This man is super nice, but he barely explains anything and the text book is no great at all. He is funny at times, but it is very stressful when you have no idea what is going on. I was not prepared for the lack of instruction given here and you need to be very good at teaching yourself if you want to succeed.
I do not recommend taking this professor. As a math class I expected him to utilize the white board and do practice problems in real time. Instead he spoke through pdf note documents which wasn't very helpful. If it weren't for YouTube I would have failed this class. Online class format: 3 exams, 1 final, anywhere from 1-4 HW assignments a week.
He's just not a good professor. He's the kind of professor that thinks his subject is really easy and skips multiple steps when doing problems. Maybe he'd be better in person, but online he just can't seem to convey the material clearly.
I think Multivariable Calc is just a hard class. There is a lot of homework, but honestly if you do it, you will be able to do well in the class. The lectures always lost me (I have not taken physics or linear algebra, so I struggled with concepts), but the homework and TA honestly saved me. No quizzes. Exams were open note. Study.
this man is an absolute legend. showed up to a class of his im not enrolled in and knew I had to make this review. I know in real life he would be my absolute dawg and he seems very chill. Take this dudes class just for the sake of his company, i may show up to this random calc more often just for a fix of seratonin every now and again. 3#luvhugo
Avoid! He is nice and smart but terrible at teaching. You're better off just reading the textbook and doing the homework. Quizzes are like 2 questions so if you get one wrong you're at 50%. Tests are short and not like the homework. Bulk of the grade are the quizzes and 2 tests. He had to curve the grades in the end because the class did so bad.
Do not take calculus with him. His lectures are basically a waste of time and he does not teach any material actually needed. Quizzes weekly in recitation are usually 2 questions- so one question wrong and you're at a 50. It's not worth taking calculus with him. Take a different professor!!
Barely any partial credit and quizzes with 2 questions so if you miss one thing you're failing. Do not take this class-- there's a reason it's at 8 am. I stopped going and actually started doing better in the class because the lectures are that unorganized.
Please, please, please, do whatever you can not to take this class. His lectures are so chaotic. He doesn't explain what topics we were working on and jumps straight into random problems. I contacted this professor asking for academic help/guidance and basically told me the math department didn't have any additional resources and couldn't help me.
Professor Junghenn is possibly the coolest dude you will meet in your life. He is very old school in teaching style, however. Weekly quizzes and homework + midterms/finals. He is more generous than others in grading (takes 3 lowest grades off quizzes, etc.) though his insistence on making math a non cooking course makes lectures difficult.
Worst teacher I've ever had. His voice is really quiet and he talks so slow. Lectures are so unorganized, focuses on proofs than actually helping you understand. Felt like I was taking three different classes because the homework, lecture, and quizzes hardly lined up. Midterm and final were awful too, nothing like the quizzes he gave. DO NOT TAKE!!
Do not take this course. It is not worth taking the 8 am class. The lectures were a waste of time, I was better off teaching myself all of the course material. Only 2 quiz questions, midterm and final exams were difficult. Look for a better professor unless you already know Calculus!
If you don't already know Calc 2, I would avoid Professor Junghenn. All he does is write proofs on the board and doesn't teach anything. While funny, he belittles students who ask questions and does not explain his thought process. Drop while you can!
worst teacher i have ever had. avoid at all freaking costs. this was hell. I taught myself everything and the only reason I did well was because I took calc in high school. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.
Gotta love professor Junghenn, had him for two semesters and just barely made it out. By far the funniest professor and never failed to make me laugh during the struggle of calc. Wish the best for those of you taking his class, and if I can make it through...you can too!
Junghenn is more occupied with number theory and proofing than teaching practical math. However, he has weekly recitations and online homework which will help you actually learn the material and stay with the curriculum. The only reason I did well is because I have taken Calc in high school. Avoid at all costs!
I cannot stress this enough for the love of god. Do. not. take. this. class. the guy is not equipped to teach anything. Just don't take it.
I would have gotten through this class if i didnt already take calc 1. lecture was extremely confusing, hard to follow, and usually not helpful. many hws didn't match material covered in class and was sometimes much harder. weekly quizzes in recitation but could drop lowest 2 grades. if this is your first time taking calc 1 DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF
Lectures are not good, rarely accessible for office hours, must have prior calc 1 knowledge in order to pass.
Lectures are a struggle - better off teaching yourself from the textbook. Short quizzes make it easy to fall behind. Try using Unstuck study for extra practice to stay on top of the material.
