I vote this one best dressed prof at PCC period! Amusing, Humorous, and intellectual(what more could u ask for). Definately will be taking more classes with him to see what cooky words are inveneted next.
He gives thorough lectures and he makes the class really fun, but he does REALLY annoying things at times..
He's like Indiana Jones, he's a dorky professor by day who gets as giddy as a school boy talking about history, but still hot enough, with tattoos and all, to picture him flying to Europe on a moment's notice to fight evil. Awesome teacher, I got A's.
If you are good at writing essays then its a easy A. He test on his lecture and a little on the book.
•ALPHA• Schwyzer is illmatic. His lectures are more like tales of history & he displays a lot of intelligent humor. Midterm is 2 essays w/ option of open book; class votes. His final is 2 take-home essays from a list of topics to choose from.
very very good professor, good lecture!!! multiple choice test are esay, but essay for midterm and final are hard, 90 minutes write two essays, and u have to momorize all the dates and spell the name correctly.he think WW1 and WW2 were cause by rats....
Not a very good professor. His field is history, but he seemingly attempts at discussing literature and/or gender. He has no background in these resepective areas of study. People with little academic experience find him "Good".
Amazing, insightful, and challenging! Be prepared to work, but its so worth it. He also teaches various History and Humanities courses. If you enjoy critical thinking and analyzing signifigant issues, take Hist 25B & Human 1
Took this course in order to transfer to a four year university. Very good prof, engages his students and his lectures are very entertaining and good.
Awesome teacher. Lectures are fun and easy to absorb. He seems to have a lot of fun with them which also helps.

Prof. S. will go out of his way for the students with A's. Yet, he dosen't have time for students who get's b or lower. I have lost any respect I had left for him.
he gives good lectures..they are interesting to listen to..his tests are a bit hard..but if you pay attention to lecture and study you'll do fine...overall it was an interesting class
He drinks too much caffeine! But seriously, he'll open your mind -- a genuine feminist man, which is all too rare. Don't let him intimidate you. He's really quite approachable. If he ever teaches his gay and lesbian history class again, take it! It was amazing. Only hot straight man I know...
excellent professor. funny guy. best lectures. keeps u awake and interested. definitely reccomend his classes. just pay attention and u will do well. hes a good looking man too.
Just take this class! You'll love his class. His lecture is so fun and easy to understand- He makes students to ask whenever we have questions during a lecture. I think he is being fair on grade, too. ^-^ Nice, cool, hot professor!

i usualy dont go for slim men but goddamn! dont let the looks fool you hes a great professor! just makesure you read the book andpay attention to the books mentioned in your book, if that made any sence
Time flies in this class. Never had a boring day since day 1. you will learn something if u take him. you not only learn history, but you also get to explore meanings of life..
Very nice and inspiring teacher. It's always better to listen to someone that actually LIKES the subject... yes, he's kinda cute
He's hot enough I guess, too old for me, but his pants sure look good on him! Do pay attention in lecutres, and read the books. I think his 1B class is much harder than his 1A and I've taken both. He's a fair grader and his lectures are excellent! He has a cool website if you google his name.
great teacher. you learn not only about history but an array of things. you need to work, but you will enjoy it. he's got charisma.
Okay, okay, Hugo was my first prof at PCC and I admit I was smitten. Beautiful, sickeningly intellegent, thourough, clear, fair- Hugo has got it all. Take him! Also interesting if you're a Christian as well- Hugo has some contraversal beliefs that can only force you to strengthen yours accordingly.
probably the most entertaining history professor yet. his quizes are easy, and he makes the lectures enjoyable. but pay attention and read the book and you'll do fine.

Well, I just suggest to concentrate on his face and not on his pants. But you'll still be distracted. Wonderful teacher, you'll never be bored. Love you Hugo!

OMG I could marry him tomorrow (lol)... damn!seriously, a great lecturer. I could listen to his stories forever. His quizzes are pretty easy, it's mostly lecture materiel with some stuff from the book. It's like storytime in his class, and I love listening to him and watching him.
I know he hates students to say it, but the man is def. a looker. He's a great lecturer, a fair grader, and his quizzes are relatively straight-forward. Be a good writer if you're going to take his class, his mid term and final are 100% essay.
Powerful lecturer -- you'll come to class every single time because you WANT to! (and HOTT)
Sweet storyteller, should work in TV or radio... cool dude... respects you. tests kind of a challenge but worth it. the gals seem to go bonkers for him !
An excellent leturer and most entertaining. It was a pleasure to take his class. He really gets into history and that's that only way to make it interesting.Great storyteller.Seems like a real nice guy. One of PCC's finest I highly recommend him. He is also very attractive makes him nice to look at.
Very easy. The problem is if u r a history major. Dumbs down class because sees it as a necessary course 2 take.If u are a history major u will see he focuses on Religion and Culture not Politics and War.Doesnt think Catherine The Great & Frederick the Great important enough 2 lecture on.

As a techer he is awful. Misses class frequently, unapologetic about it. Militant about your attendance, despite the fact that the students pay and he gets paid for the class. As far as his lectures: he goose steps in front of the class while spewing rhetoric, at times ineteresting, if not offensive

his lectures are great

His lectures are very good and he is always there for you if you have a question .. not to mention hes completely hot!

NEVER EVER WILL YOU BE LUCKY ENOUGH TO COME ACROSS A TEACHER LIKE HUGO IN ALL YOUR ACADEMIC LIFE. NOT ONLY IS HE HOT, HES SMART AND AN EXCELLENT LECTURER. IF YOU LISTEN AND ARENT DISTRACTED BY HIS SEXYNESS, YOULL PASS WITHOUT A PROBLEM.
Who cares how he dresses? He's such a good teacher and such a compassionate man. (And reasonably easy on the eyes.) He really understands women, and I mean that seriously. He's also a very fine lecturer. His office hours are at very inconvenient times! Hugo, we need to see you middays! 7AM is tooooo early!
Huogo's Class is story time. Well knowlegble prof but needs to intergrate classroom discusion. One point I learned first hand do not question the man he does not lioke it one bit.He is very tradtional in his approach the complete opposite end of the spectrum from Zarate.
Cons: Arrogant to the point of being annoying, too much lecture, NO interactive discussions whatsoever. Sit there, shut up, be a sponge, regurgitate. Pros: Good lecturer (thank God), very fair grader, good prep for exams and papers. Very clear expectations.
Tons of work, very interesting lectures, very nice man. He made me a feminist!
Very good lectures. Makes history interesting and fun. Not much interaction, but I learned a lot. Sexy in a dude next door way. I liked the clothes.
bad teaching
One thing you might notice about Hugo's class in Week 1 is that he instantly refers to many students by first name. Does he stay up all night studying his roster? No... he just has SO MANY REPEAT STUDENTS. We love his classes and come back for another subject: it's the ultimate endorsement. [Take him for HIST24 - GAY & LESBIAN HISTORY in the Fall!]
He was pretty awesome. The tests are based mostly on the notes, so it's imperative that you pay attention. It's pretty interesting. He's vibrant and energetic, he's great.
For the FIRST time History was interesting! He is an incerdible lecturer and he explains everything very clearly. Overall he is a wonderful professor. I think all professor should take at least one of his classes just to know how to TEACH and LECTURE! TAKE HIM FOR SURE!if you attend PCC and never take him youve missed out. im taking him AGAIN!:)
Really cares about your grammar as well as your ideas on his take-home finals, watch out! Sometimes a bit harsh on students whose cell phones ring in class. Great lecturer, funny and kind man. Wears hot clothes, hot for his age.
Professor Schwyzer is a great lecturer. Although the only thing you do in that class is listening to lectures, the lectures are quite interesting. He is really clear on what hes talking about. Overall a great professor.

If your a history major you will not like him. He only focuses on Religion and Culture. Avoids Battles and politics. Also, beware, His 2 hidden agendas in his lectures are Feminism & Pacifism. He taeches with the intention to become both. The easiest class in PCC! It is not challenging at all. However, He is the only one who teaches 1A & 1B.
He lectures well, he's not good looking and looks like any average, middle aged, white guy. He is far more fascinating on his blog than in person and seems fake and contrived. The class is usually attentive because he's loud not because he's incredible.
This is no average guy! He is definitely good looking, but the really nice part is that he doesn't know it. His classes are attentive because he's passionate and sincere about what he does and it shows! This man works so hard!! He teaches several classes and still manages to know all his students. If only all our professors could be like this one!
This professor is far from average! He's incredible!! He keeps his students' attention with his amazing passion! I've never seen a professor so involved in his subject. He's an inspiration! He has a fabulous voice! And he's nice to look at too! Not arrogant like most nice looking guys. Take this class, you won't be sorry.
hugo is HOTTTTTT and you can never fall asleep in his class because he's loud and spazzes outta nowhere! his lectures are never dull and you learn so much in this class. this prof is a MUST TAKE!
He is defenitly an interisting person. His lectures are good and enthusiastic, and I found his multiple choice tests very easy. However his midterm and final were both essay's and I had a bit more of a hard time w/ em. He focused mainly on the meaning of life associatied w/ each diff society. He's not hard or easy, just pay attention.
You don't get as much in summer from him as you do during the regular year... I've done both. He's as hot as advertised IMO, though he's not everyone's dream guy, either. Girls, relaz: he says he has a fiancee! He tells fascinating stories in 1A, his 1B class is a tiny bit drier, but he's always full of energy and obviously LOVES his job and his
okay so at first i didnt think he was hot, but he grows on you. tattoos on a prof, now thats hot... class is hard though. as a history major it made me wana cry. lectures are KEY so showing up is important. TESTS ARE HARD. BOOK AND LECTURE ARE KEY. makes you connect 400 years of history together. hard but hey, it was interesting. id take it again.

AMAZING people have made this an appearance rating.. anyway course was difficult.. hugo was 2 the point but we had to compete 4 a good grade w/ the rest of the class.. so if 99% of the class is a below avg student & there's that 1 student who always aces everything.. it beomes extremely difficult.. i rather find another prof teaching this course
In his women's studies class, Hugo does not use a competitive grading system. It's still a lot of work (especially writing), but he's fair and I earned an A without much trouble. He is a stickler for grammer! Oh, and the appearance thing: he's not Jude Law, but he IS hot and he has a hot "vibe" about him too; he's so passionate about feminism and
There's lots of misinformation here! Hugo is surely hot enough, it's true, but that's not the point of this site! He's a great teacher, and he's NOT HARD. His tests and quizzes are fair, and if you pay attention in lecture, they are predictable. Come on, people, study and you will be fine!!
you have to study, if you want to pass this class!!
Last rater is joking, right? Over 40 pages of writing (more than any other history class). Hugo makes you work, and he makes you think. No, I don't like him cause I think he's hot (he is not my type), I like him cause he can teach, and teach with passion.
Hugo is a great professor. I never have a history teacher who makes history so fun. I don't understand why people say this class is hard. As long as you show up in lecture and listen attentively (a MUST!), this class is easy as pie. Of course you need to read the book and improve your writing for a good grade. Not an easy A but it's not hard at all

Self-absorbed, narcissistic, and highly over-rated.

he is an amazing teacher.......so into it...and hot
Good story teller and makes history interesting.
i knew he had a tatt! it showed a little when he wore tees. he's an awesome history teacher and a good storyteller. he always had my attention...walking around the whole room and often sipping his diet cola.
Best teacher ever......awesome person you learn sooo much from his class!!
I took Hugo's class back in 1996, fresh out of high school. I will never forget that class. He was always jumping up on the chairs and hooting and hollering! Not a bad thing. It definitely made class interesting. He was very critical of the Roman Catholic church's role in terrorizing culture with violence in the name of religion. Overall, he was a good teacher. I got a B in his class. I wish I studied a little bit harder!
Take his class, people! You will never regret! He is so cool and his class is so interesting! You can learn a lot from his class. He is simply amazing!
Hotty McHot. Intelligent, well-spoken & passionate - he makes history interesting.
Great teacher. Passionate and well qualified.
i like his lecture. very interesting, i learn a lot from his leature like meaning of life. but test is difficult. not recommend to international students. he speak so fast and u need to drop notes by yourself.
Very Funny very cool
Great teacher very informative outstanding.. 4.5 A+ Professor

I am in my third Hugo class. He is a great lecturer, and though some people find him intimidating, I think he is very kind. He dresses inappropritely, I think -- like he's going partying instead of teaching -- but he looks good doing it. He makes his grading sound really difficult, but I think as long as you show up regularly, he's fairly easy.
Best professor at PCC if you attend PCC you have to take him hes the best.
Not a historian but a story teller, belongs teaching at a preschool-lectures on ancient fairytales Thinks way way too much of himself for someone teaching at a community college In a lame attempt to be popular he has his students call him by his dorky first name-Hugo But he is really easy I think because he dosent respect his students' abilities
Best Class ever taken. Facinating topic with great lectures I was never bored. Very clear and articulate and always interesting. Dont expect fact & dates but stories that give you a very real sence of the times and the peoples. Two easy quizes, in class essay mideterm, and take home final essay (two 4-7 page essays).
What a joke.
Engaging and intelligent teacher. Fine knowledge of the material and covers the basics, doesn't go off into tangents about specifics. Great storyteller, helps him relate lessons memorably. Fair and challenging tests. Even shy students will enjoy his class. Would love the haters. Lot of hot girls in his class, too. Talking 9's and 10's here, guys
So passionate, he should have his own talk show. Hot in an older man sort of way. Very warm and generous with his time, lots of insight. Lectures are spellbinding, work in 25B is very heavy load, not so much in 1B.
His lectures are amazing because he makes history into an interesting story. Only two quizzes and he actually gives you time to read the chapters. Final is a take home research paper that isn't that hard. Great teacher cause he relates history to today.
Love this professor! Best I've ever had. An amazing speaker! I wish he taught all my classes. Really worth all the effort of going to class. Helpful, considerate, and really sweet. __I love to watch him in action, he's cute, funny, and really interesting. He has a temper though, never leave your cell-phone on in class, he will get very upset!
PROBABLY THE HOTTEST PROF. @PCC! HE MAKES THE BORING HISTORY CLASS INTERESTING, WHICH MAKES U WANNA GO TO HIS CLASS. HE IS THE ONE WHO WANTS TO GET OUT OF THE CLASS THE MOST. THAT'S Y WE'RE USUALLY DISMISSED 30 MINS EARLY. ONLY 2 REAL EASY QUIZZES (25 M.C.). BUT I THINK HE'S NOT THAT HELPFUL & DUN WANT US TO BOTHER HIM IN OFFICE HRS.
I loved this class. Hugo gives fantastic lectures and the material was very thought provoking. I also really enjoyed the text books. I only wish that he had included more reading or a suggested book list. The work load is too light. The interview assignment was one of the best experiences I have ever had. I highly recommend Hugo and this class.
I have never had a teacher like him before. I felt like that someone was telling me a story...I never got bored in his class and I actually wanted to go to class because it was very interesting! Dr. Schwyzer is an awesome teacherrr!

We all know HUgo is HOT, but other than that he is great at teaching you not history but how to look at your own life. Get motivator! I love him and the class!! take him, no HW besides reading and final paper and midterm paper (inclass) quizzes are easy 25 qs
He gave me hope that people can live a healthy life with a caffeine addiction, from one avid Starbucks consumer to another. You're an inspirational professor with a secret grading code. I do appreciate the dash of “hugo” that you put in your lectures and I think you don’t over “hugo” the lecture too much. I’ll stop before I over stroke your ego.
Two quizzes, a midterm, and a final. Quizzes are multiple choices. Midterm and final are essays. His lectures are very interesting. I am always asleep in history classes but this one kept me awake. The only thing I didn’t like was the way he graded the essays because the grade you get on your essay depends on your other classmates.

Gives great lectures. Let our class vote on whether midterm should be open book or not. Lots of energy and a really great dresser, fairly hot. He's arrogant, but in a way that is attractive and exciting. He's a bit of a nutcase about tardies, though -- be on time or he ll quote Revelation at you!
I can hear myself saying years from now, "I had the most awesome women's history teacher at PCC!" His lectures are ones you'll quote time and time again. The work is VERY thought-provoking and doable. It doesn't matter if you're liberal, conservative or in between - he's genuinely open-minded. I'm conservative, and felt totally comfortable!
A sweet, gentle man with a passionate personality and a real knack for making hard material accessible and exciting. His 1A class is easy; I worked moderately hard and got an A. His women's history class is much more demanding, but it is worth the effort you put in. I got a B in that one, but loved it and Hugo.
He is an amazing teacher...very thorough...if you are not interested you will be...his lectures are like stories so they are easy to listen to & easy to understand....he is also very helpful...if you need anything his door is always open...sweet man!!
I am in my third class with Hugo, and I got As in the first two though I had to work hard. He makes his tests out to be scary, but they arent that bad. His lectures are always interesting and it is so obvious he loves what he does. His insight into women (I'm in women's history now) is amazing, and it doesn't hurt that he is nice to look at!
I can't believe he's got a 3.2 for easiness. Hugo is incredibly easy once you figure out how to write for him. I think his expectations are too low. He is a bit of an elitist, doesn't expect comm. college students to be able to do great work. On the other hand, his lectures are amazing. He is charismatic, sexy, and approachable.
Plus side: Hugo is a great orator, his lectures are very interesting. He's a good dresser and a handsome man. He has tats in some interesting places that show when he wears certain jeans and shirts, like today... hot hot hot. Down side: the take-home final is really hard and he gives us only 4 weeks. He's unreasonably prejudiced against int
I love him. He's very inspiring; his use of words is incredible. Hugo is the most articulate prof I've ever had. (He's as hot as claimed here but too old for a serious crush). I think he talks too sophisticatedly for foreign/ESL students; one of my friends really complains about this with Hugo's lectures.
He is very handsome, dresses nice, and speaks well. I have a hard time with this class because there is only two quizes that are multiple choice, mid-term which is essay style but timed, and the final is a take home which is kind of difficult. I normally get A's in all my classes but this one will probably be a C. But he is the first teacher to e
Great lectures, makes the History Channel seem bland. Tests are quite difficult though, since he grades on a modified curve. Prepare heavily for his tests/quizzes, since he asks some very specific questions(ie where was John Calvin born?). I got an A, but I think only 4 or so other people in the class also managed an A.
Great class! I never missed a day; he's a GREAT lecturer and easy on the eyes. He gets a little too excited sometimes... Just take good notes, study before the tests/midterm, do the final and you'll be fine.
In my mind he is gorgeous and brilliant, but he is not everyones cup of tea. He is challenging, tempestuos, charismatic. He's arrogant but usually not in an off-putting way. He is gentle too. You will not agree with everything he says, but you will never be bored and if you like a man who is hot in a kind of nerdy way, Hugo is the ideal prof.
Hugo is an awesome teacher. He is always there if you need any help. He is a tough grader, but hey you are in college. He could be arrogant and pushy at times. If you don't speak english that well don't take his class. He holds everyone to the same standards. Put effort and you get a good grade. Its that simple.
U HAVE NO CHOICE TO TAKE THE OTHER PROF.....HE IS GOOD...U CAN LEARN MORE FROM HIM..BUT HE IS ALSO VERY HARD...HE CARES ABOUT BOTH IDEAS AND GRAMMER SKILLS IN THE ESSAYS....
If you dont have to take his class, DO NOT TAKE HIM!! Dont take him for fun or for whatever.. killer final, 2 research papers which he grades hard on. He's a good teacher and its pretty impossible to fall asleep in class cause he keeps you interested, but still.. its hard. I worked my butt off for him and didnt get an 'A'.
Awesome
Too many comments here about his appearance. He is a captivating lecturer. Has no intersession office hours. Will surely keep you interested. Before taking the class I had heard he used the same quizzes over and over -- IT IS NOT TRUE (I got burned!) His bark is wosre than his bite.
INTERESTING CLASS HIS DISCUSSIONS KEEPS YOU AWAKE. GREAT HISTORY CLASS. QUIZZES ARE M/C STUDY YOUR NOTES TAKE HIM YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT
No Comments
His class is interesting compared to the history classes I've ever had. However, his stories get a little too long sometimes so it's really hard to stay awake (esp. morning). Quizzes are MC so not that bad, but final and midterm are HARD! I hate his grading system (maybe b/c it's summer), maybe he needs to readjust it. Appearance wise, A+
Great class very interesting... unfortunatley grade is based on only on 4 grades for summer... two quizes and two essay tests... but he is still a good teacher and its a fairly easy class
Hugo gets an A+ for hotness! Great dresser. Very interesting lectures, a dynamic teacher, will not let you go to sleep! I still don't like history much but Hugo made me interested. (At least in HIM if notWorld War 1! lol) Essays aren't bad if you write good intros and conclusions, he is really a stickler for writing. Open book final in summer.
LOVED IT! I absolutely loved his class!! his grading system worried me a bit but ultimately it worked out great for the students. He totally keeps you interested b/c he doesn't read from a text book his attention is on the class, and your attention should be on him! he's hott!!
I LOVED THIS CLASS!!! he's an excellent lecturer, very clear and passionate in his teachings. he's really good and he's brilliant! A MUST TAKE CLASS! grading is very fair and pretty easy. open book final at the end for summer.
Excellet!
Awesome professor! Most of the stuff I learn from school I don't apply much in the real world but what you learn from Hugo... it will never leave you. This guy is BOLD. He goes where no man dares to go! Ladies, he will enlighten you and help you see you in a new light. Men, take this class... its good for you. Hard tests but worth it; great lecture
His lectures are exciting and provocative, and definitely NOT going to put you to sleep. The writing load (daily journals, three papers) is excessive, but he gives good feedback and the subjects are interesting. Four books, two of which are great and two are so-so. He's as hot as advertisd with an unusual metrosexual fashion sense.
I am always amazed by Hugo. Lectures are incredibly interesting, he's a master lecturer. Though he gets annoyed easily, it's partly because he's so passionate about what he is doing that he has little patience for those who don't respect the material. He is a committed feminist, a good-looking man, and gives great feedback. Take him!
You've got to read the book as well as come to class. Whatever class you take with him his lectures will be amazing! Very eloquent. He often rushes out of class as if he doesn't have time for his students, but if you visit him he is very nice. His requirements are clear. Very easy crush if you are into that, but not my type.
You know how most classes are about things we'll never need to know in life? Well, that's not the case with this one! Humanities with Hugo is all about families, and how we can improve our own family situations. This is stuff that kicks you in the gut, and means a lot on a personal level. You will come out of this a changed person - for the better!
Hugo is a challenging teacher, and not always paatient. But he gives exciting lectures and he is quite knowlegeable. He is a feminist conservative. Hot enough, he sometimes dresses too sexy. Distracting. But he is never boring and you will be glad you took the class. Open book midterm if you choose it , he lets the class vote.
McDreamy Hot!! Great teacher! Take any class he teaches! Easy grader and easy on the eyes.
Arrogant. Nuff said.

Incredibly insightful, approachable, challenging without being intimidating.
He's fine as a teacher. He doesn't WOW me, but he's fine.
Not very bright. Boring, difficult, routinely unfair to students. Ignores questions, always keeps class late, drones and drones and drones. Wants to be called "Hugo" because he wants to be the student's friend, but it doesn't help.
Best teacher i have EVER had in my life!!! you will wake up in th morning and WANT to go to his class. He keeps you on your toes and is the best story teller EVER!!! and he's not bad on the eyes either ;)
Hugo is the most entertaining teacher you'll have. Brings history to life with his stories. I would recommend his class for anyone.
hugo kicks ass. teaches everything right from his head. blends past and present perfectly to create a masterfully arranged lecture that is both entertaining and highly educational. prepares all students very well for tests and quizzes. a bit of reading is required, but the class is by no means difficult.
He sounds like he wants to take over the world someday. Anyways, I have to say I loved his class. I never thought history could be that interesting before I took this class. He gives ideas about life and the interesting stories that would never bored you. Even though his class is a little hard, but he's absolutely helpful if you show your care.

One of the best classes I've taken in my life. Hugo makes history so interesting that you forget you're in class. There is some light reading and the mid-term and final are essays. I definitely recommend this class even if you hate history because he'll make you love it.
Hugo is a very entertaining teacher! I love to attend his class just to listen to his lectures. He's very passionate in what he teaches. You'll never get bored in class and you'll learn a lot from it. However, his class is not that easy, but it's doable.
really good teacher, makes history interesting and enjoyable with his lectures. quizzes are tricky. final essays are difficult and involve a ton of research. don't bother trying to beat his curve system "challenge". our class almost pulled it off but he didn't tell us there were students taking the quiz in disabled services until the last minute.
His women in american society class is very challenging but completely unforgettable. A heavy reading and writing load, and he isn't an easy grader, but Hugo is a dynamic, passionate professor. Take him seriously, and this class may just change your life. It's not just good, it's important.
Great lectures, talks rapidly and seems to have little patience with students who don't grasp English well. Good fashion sense, a talented orator, a bit "prickly" on some days. Memorable and interesting, a good class if you hate history.
What the last rater said. Hugo is intense, hot, sometimes a bit harsh or sarcastic, but he is an exciting professor, and you will never ever be bored by him. He has a huge ego but he has the skills to back it up, and underneath it all, he obviously cares a lot about his students. He is one of my two favorite (Marheine being the other) PCC profs.

Sure, he's an interesting professor with great lectures. Trust me though, if you want an "A" in History1A, you're not going to get it in this class even if you're a half decent student. Hugo is narcissistic and does not grade you for content, but on how well everyone else did in comparison with you. If that's what you like, then take his class.
I join the chorus of praise.
WOW!!!! That is all there is to say...and it is possible to get an A in his class..... : ).....he says you have to rad the book but I didn't even buy it and I managed an A....take his class...it's a journey....
It's a very hard class, nearly impossible to get an A. Huge amounts of writing, and he is more of a stikler for grammar than some english teachers. He is goodlooking and an incredibly passionate speaker. He pushes a feminist agenda very hard, and many students buy into it. He's never boring, and he's nice enough when you can get to see him.
wow...he is the best prof i have ever had! He makes history as if it just happened today. He is really amazing...I started liking history because of him...he made it fun and easy to learn! but you need to go to class everyday or else you will be lost...and he is kind of a tough grader
I've taken three of Hugo's classes. He is mesmerizing, the most RAWLY GIFTED lecturer I've had. He is VERY HOT, great clothes, looks awesome in jeans. The down side: he is a very tough and sometimes CONFUSING GRADER, vacillating between a curve and a rigid standard. I got 2 Bs and 1A, and it pulled my GPA down. Inconvenient office hours too.
He is an excellent professor that is very passionate to treat with history and his students, this class includes all kinds of love and combines the interesting journey at all. just enjoy for this class and be sure to follow by Hugo's direction, u will be fine!
Hes horrible. Worst teacher I've ever had in my life.
I was disapointed I have to say with Hugo.Wasnt helpful when I needed help.Always making excuses that he was too busy to see students out of his office hours.I think he should reconsider what he does for a living, if he is so busy with other things. The only thing I liked is that he made you question life lessons while examing history.
Great Professor if you get the chance I sugest you take his class. He is helpfull and funny.
THE ABSOLUTE BEST PROFESSOR AT PCC!!! WILL BLOW YOUR MIND AWAY...WILL ENLIGHTEN YOUR SOUL. HUGO WILL BE YOUR INSPIRATION TO LIFE ITSELF! THIS WILL BE A BEGINNING TO A JOURNEY THAT WILL NEVER END.
good teacher and is a good lecturer, his lectures are interesting and funny that they keep your attention, he has a vast knowledge of the subject

Very interesting lectures, very hard grader, but it's worth taking unless you want to risk your GPA, in which case you might want to take it Credit/No Credit which I did. Exciting lectures, you won't even need coffee to stay awake. Handsome for his age.
Very interesting prof!! A little intimidating. Don't take him if you're used to getting easy A's. Tough grader! Says he grades on a curve but then also grades your essays by his standards.
Very fun to listen to, and doesn't require much in class participation.
very nice human being
best of the best
He doesn't teach accounting. He's very intense, very demanding, but he's committed to challenging people to grow and change emotionally and spiritually while doing tough academic work. Lots of writing.

great class.
he's one of the best history teachers i have ever had. made history much more interesting. Time just fly by in this class. hes funny, witty, and cute! TAKE HIS CLASS.
Super hard grader. Never bored in his class, but demands a lot of attention in class and bookreading at home. Only two 24-MC tests and two final papers. His two final papers are nerve-wreckingly hard and long, but I got an A for the class 'cuz of the papers with two Cs for his only two tests. Just WORK WORK WORK!!!

Best instructor I've had hands down. Genuinely cares about his students and clearly loves his job. Take all of his classes. If you want to be challenged and are willing to do the work, you won't be disappointed. Always interesting and full of stuff you won't find in the textbook. You will actually look forward to going to class.
Lectures are very clear, but some info are different from the textbook. You have to know both lecture & text to do well on his quizzes. He seems to think that his class is the only class that anyone is taking. If you like to make his class your life, then it's all good, but if you have other classes to worry about, this class isn't the class 4u.
it is better to take his short term class, the take home essay is not as easy as you though. short term classes don't have take home essay
Teacher is VERY strict about grammar, length of essays, and attendance. LOTS AND LOTS OF WORK. One of the most intense classes ive taken so far. Do not need books until final...which is a pain in the butt...i earned my A with A LOT OF HARDWORK...however class is really interesting with enthus teacher
Difficult.
The legendary Hugo Schwyzer. I finally have the pleasure of rating him [that sounds so wrong] after a semester of grueling work. Here's the deal: I'm a straight A student, and Hugo's class was the most difficult I've had at PCC; HOWEVER, it was also the most enriching classes I've ever taken. If you go to PCC, then I implore you to take him!
Amazing Professor! He is truley inspirational and opens your eyes!
take him if you can. it's always interesting and he is very helpful.
yes, he's hard but SUCH A GOOD TEACHER! he does care, but not a mushy teacher. treats you like an adult and expects you to act as one. don't be late. if writing is not your strong point, especially timed, DO NOT TAKE.lectures are AMAZING. you never want to miss. if he's right for you, TAKE HIM! be ready for work, but smile, he's so good!!!
He's very tough, and unlike some history professors, he cares as much about the quality of your writing as of your ideas, which can be really challenging. He had no summer office hours which was frustrating. I promise you it's never boring in his class, and he's able to make even dry subjects come alive. Highly recommended, but get ready to work.
I just found out I got a B in Hugo's summer class. The B hurts my GPA but taking women's history was worth it! It's not only demanding, it's incredibly inspiring. Hugo wants his students to change their lives, and 25B has started to change mine. He's a very tough grader, but his charisma and his kindness make his class worth it no matter what.
Hugo is such a fun teacher. His lectures MAKE you WANT to pay attention in class. The class is not easy but this class is worth taking. I highly recommend taking this professor.

Do you want to transfer to USC school? If you want, then you must take Hugo's class, is not only the transfer requirement but Hugo is an excellent profeesor, you will fel free to ask him questions without any limit, go to his office hour cuz this should be helpful. Good!
A mesmerizing and enchanting lecturer for sure, but sometimes there's more to teaching than being a brilliant and articulate TALKER. He expects you to write very well without showing you how -- frustrating!! Yes, he's kinda hot; he's got charism;, he's never boring; but as exciting as it was to listen to him, I didn't LEARN as much as I wanted.

A very unorthodox and challenging teacher; in his 25B and humanitiesclasses, he focuses as much on giving you radically new life skills as on facts. Not hot, but so charismatic he seems hot. He's big on writing and on attendance, and though he seems arrogant and intimidating at first, Hugo can be very kind if you go to office hours.
He seems like a cool guy-knows his stuff. Sometime boring, but the information is worth listening to. There's no way anyone should fail because he's so clear. Very interesting class to take."
Hugo is a great professor. One of the best teachers at PCC. Ever. In the history of the world. He is seriously funny as hell, you'll laugh your way through every class, and wonder where the time went.

I love his lectures, totally changed my perspective on a lot of things. Very passionate about his subject... however I can feel a bit distance of him and his students when outside of classroom. Doesn't really take in other's ideas and opinions different from his.
the infamous hugo schwyzer. he is very cute, ladies. he's hella smart and makes history lectures very interesting. going to class was like going to story time. love his confidence; makes him even more attractive :) his tests are haaard though. the questions are confusing sometimes and he randomly picks questions from the book. cool class
The worst teacher I have ever had. He is also arrogant and very unhelpful in office hours. He will automatically assume if you don?t get an A on the test that you deserve a bad grade and haven?t been doing the work. STAY AWAY FROM HIS CLASSES IF YOU CAN!!!
IF you love history you'll love it more after having him. It's not an easy course but he grades fairly. He is very passionate in his lectures in which he makes the lectures to interesting. If he taught more classes I would enroll anyday.
An almost unreasonable amount of work but it is all absolutely worth it. If you are a woman and you want your world rocked, take 25B with Schwyzer. He will push you hard emotionally, academically... It's a huge work load but it is a life-changing course. He's passionate, approachable, the "hot older man" type; but guys should take 25B too!

Great lecturer. Class can only be difficult because there are so few grades. It is also sometimes difficult to understand exactly what he is looking for on a test. Also his TA's make the 2 quizzes and they can be really hard/stupid. Otherwise very intresting history class and not that hard.
I used to visit his class with my sister as a kid and fell in love with it ever since. EXCELLENT lecturer, very intelligent, and very helpful. attendance is mandatory, DONT be late, and take lots of notes! but worry not, i guarantee u'll be looking forward to the hard work. hes brilliant.
amazing teacher. really inspires students to go above and beyond. very entertaining lectures and just an overall cool guy with a wild sense of style. BOTH guys and girls should take his men and masculinity course. i worked my butt off but learned so much more than i thought i would.
I took Hugo's Hist7B twice with grades of F and A-. Since then, I graduated with 3.4 gpa from UC Berkeley and secured a great job prior to graduation. Hugo prepares you well for top schools. His exams aren't difficult because students at Cal or other top schools can easily fill up 2 bluebooks or more in exams. Thanks Hugo, Go Bears!
I'vet aken three of his classes, actually. I am at UCSB now and Hugo remains the best college lecturer I ever had. Really good at telling a great story, but he helps you remember small details too. Essay tests aren't bad, he's a fair grader but doesn't give enough feedback. He's a hottie too, girls: fashionable, passionate! Sit in front!
Loved this professor. I get it now. I read peoples comments on here and I didnt know what they were talking about but now I do. HARD to get an A. I got a B
This is a life altering course. You will literally fall in love. Yes, its not the easiest class but there are times in life that challenging results to gratfying. He truely is the best thing that has happened to pcc. Hands down!!
Dr. Schwyzer is a gifted and charismatic lecturer. Gives detailed and clear instructions. The reason I only gave him a 3 for helpfulness is that though he is available to his students, he delibrately stirs up very emotionally charged issues, and leaves most of them with no place to go with all of their feelings. It's borderline irresponsible.
It's pathetic how many people kiss this guys ass. It's not if he's teaching Chemistry or Physics...lol. At least I'm not going to boost his ego....Simple class.
Hugo is a really great professor, who is by far the best lectuer i have ever had at PCC.His quizes are easy and his essay questions only require a little studying before hand. Seems to be in love with the number 3. I recommed taking him if you like history or if you don't.
This class is a huge amount of work: five books and three papers. It's unreasonable how much he expects, and his attendance policy is istrict. But Schwyzer is a wonderful lecturer, charismatic. This course can change lives if you are willing to do the work. Lots of girls are obviously in love with him, but I'm a guy, and he's just cool.
Professor Schwyzer is a good lecturer, well-organized and interesting. Tests are fair but he does care a lot about grammar and spelling even on in-class midterms and finals. Doesn't like to talk about military history, and instead emphasizes gender, sexuality, and religion, perhaps too much. Dynamic and rarely dull. Helpful in office hours.
Whether it's hard or not depends on whether you read and write English well: not a class for ESL students! But it is a class that changed my life. It is not about great women in history, but about a whole new way of thinking about everything. It will make you angry, but also fill you with new possibilities for your life. Hugo is a great mentor too.
He is very inspiring. His lecture is awesome. He knows how to make you understand and become interested in history. I love him but his test is tough. Students have to read and understand the textbook as well as his lecture to pass it. I luckily got an A but I mean LUCK.
Excellent Teacher. I did not do the best that I could have but I will do better next time I take him. Ethusiastic teacher. 5 books, Text is too much but the four other books are great. Highly reccommend to any female or male.
MUCH easier in the summer than in the regular term. I took 1B with him in the sring and hardly anyone got an A; in the summer 1A I think half the class did. Exciting, interesting lectures. Read the book to do well on the test. He's a hardcore vegan and extremist animal activist. Won't be surprised if he's an eco-terrorist.
One of the best professors i have ever had. Makes all the lectures interesting. ALWAYS enthusiastic. If you work hard there's no reason why anyone should get a low grade.
Absolutely exceptional professor; direct, poignant and controversial. More like him needed to create "thinkers" as opposed to the all-too-common "sheeple" that is today's all too apparent young post-college society.
Took his class in the Spring of 08. Wonderful teacher, interesting lectures. I never read the book, just took good notes, paid attention and I got a B. Good class even if you are not interested in history.
He is very interesting and his class lectures were always fun. This is one class where I actually enjoyed going to the lectures! However, do not be late because he dislikes tardiness and will lower your grade because of it. Overall, he is a great professor, is very helpful, and loves what he does.
Best teacher ever
the class was alright, not all its made out to seem like, atleast not for me
i took him for 1a also great teacher if you want to learn he will teach you i mean i didnt study and got c so if i did i could easily get a or b he gives only 2 big test midterm and final and sometimes he might give an essay or quiz but he grades fairly but the whole thing about school is learning and he will teach you
by far the best history professor, knows his stuff and doesnt even need to use his book or notes to teach.. makes the subject fun for everyone.. class was always full
He's awesome!
I have taken every course he teaches, I think (Just finished my 5th!) Hugo is a passionate and riveting lecturer, tho that is all he does. Too little discussion, no videos. He has a messianic following, which explains his hot ratings. (He's average looking but charisma to burn and very well-dressed.) A great mentor for men and women alike.
take this class!!! you will learn so much!! like others have said he is very passionate about what he teaches! i loved this class! the books are interesting, and the lectures are even better! not a dull moment!! and hes not too hard on the eyes! :)
I've taken a couple of his classes, most recently GLBTQ history. Dr. Schwyzer is a great lecturer whose passion for his subject is almost invariably contagious. Not easy, and his finals are famously designed to make your hands cramp! As the other rater said, quite easy on the eyes, but even easier on the ears.
Easy on the eyes, like the other rater said. Even easier on the ears, you will love his passionate and usually easily understood lectures. Tests are fair, but he loves his detailed essay questions that "blend text and lecture information." Very hard for foreign students to do well given his format.
Amazing guy! Listening to his lectures are like hearing the coolest story ever! I didn't think it was gonna be fun, but it was awesome. Test are kinda fair, but he'll tell you what to study
He's the only the only prof that comes in with no book or paper to read off of...hes the best prof i've ever taken and esp for history. you do have to study and his tests are essay based...but you'll learn in the class and he makes it very interesting..you wont regret it take him
He is an AMAZING teacher!!! He can make anyone love history. I couldn't wait to get to class and hear his stories and lectures. He is interesting, amusing, hilarious, wise and full of information. I've never seen a class with such consistently high attendance. He is a pleasure to have! I'd recommend him to anyone!
His class is really HARD! You have to take good lecture notes AND be familiar with the textbook. Not an easy class at all. That said, I still recommend his class cause he's just awesome. Very interesting, and so enthusiastic that it gets you excited too. A very enjoyable class, but be ready to work hard for your grade. Totally worth it, though.
I have taken two different history classes with him and I plan to take a hum3 course with him. You have to read his textbooks. This class demands extensive notes and writing papers. Hugo has been able to reach me in the most dreaded subject I had to take (Hist) Hugo is very articulate and passionate about his students
What's frustrating is that in order to get an A in his gender studies classes, you absolutely must participate. In practice, that means native English speakers who are outgoing tend to get the As. Wonderful lectures, but could incorporate technology occasionally. Powerpoint isn't the devil, Dr. Schwyzer!
Ok, I believe potential students deserve to know the both sides of the story. Don't get intimidated by his seemly perfect rating and not wanting to express your true feeling. I feel he is pretentious, opinionated and plays favoritism all the time. Your effort and hard work doesn't guarantee you a good grade if he doesn't like you. Try it yourself.
It's vital that you take this class; subject is fascinating & important. Prof is very clear, approachable, quick with emails, & all that other Good Prof stuff. Can sometimes make people (unintentionally) feel bad for not knowing "basic human physiology." Dramatic in the best possible way: you won't fall asleep in lecture.
He is NOT hot, nor is he approachable! Not helpful at all and he plays favortism ALL THE TIME!
Passionate and entertaining. I wish he could teach all of my classes. I don't really understand how he could show favoritism, especially in his History classes because it's all lecture and no participation. At first, I thought I was going to be distracted by his extreme foxiness, piercing blue eyes, and fit build, but I hung on to every word!
He is the best professor I have ever had in my entire life. Everyday I know I'll be attending History I get giddy and exciting, and I feel as though he could make me believe anything with his coaxing words. You will never get bored and attendance will never be an issue because you look forward to learning more about the material. TAKE THIS CLASS N
A GREAT History teacher! I took his class for 2 semesters (history 1a and 1b) and loved it. It's not just an easy A though- you have to do the reading and study for the quizzes. He prepares you well for the in class essays. I became fascinated with history because of this professor--oh ya...and he IS pretty easy on the eyes. :)
Pros: Exceptional lecturer. Can turn dry interesting and relatable. Very knowledgeable about history. Cons: Superficial, arrogant, and pretentious. Always acts as if he has more important matters to attend to. Doesn't like when students ask questions, so almost no classroom interaction. Grading is rigged, based on how well you do against classmates
The guy is very enthusiastic about his field. You ask him a question, he will answer it very, very fully. Intelligent guy and not bad looking and this is coming from a straight guy. But the workload from this class is unbearable if you have more than 3 other classes. Our term paper had to be 10-20 pgs long. A 10 page essay would only get us a C!
I just finished my fourth Hugo class. He is a very tough but rewarding professor: a great lecturer and an accesible mentor if you go to office hours. And IF you do the reading and take notes and WRITE A LOT, an A is definitely possible. I've gotten 2 As and 1 B from him so far. He's hot but never flirtatious unlike some male profs.
Best Professor at PCC by far! His lectures are interesting and fun to listen to. I enjoyed going to class. Get the book, it is needed for the tests and quizzes. Attendance is important but shouldnt be hard because his class is so interesting. Few tests and quizzes so studying is important. You wont regret taking his class!
This is what it means to blend teaching and activism. Schwyzer does have an agenda, and doesn't try to hide it: he wants to empower young women and men to rethink gender and sexuality. His class is demanding (5 books and 3 papers). Schwyz pushes you emotionally and academically to your limit. Charismatic, sorta hot, but weirdly shy one-on-one.
Dr.Schwyzer kinda got to me. I never discuss to anyone anything about my personal life but he seemed understanding. Unfortunately, I earned a C for turning in my papers late but I enjoyed his lectures.5 books will HAVE to be read, 3 essays, and the final will involve either of the 5 books you read. And I'll admit, he is kinda cute...(weird)
Great lecturer but don't bother asking him for help, especially if your a guy.he favors female students.he has this annoying pretentious diva attitude yet preaches about equality. He thinks his lecture is some sort of artistic performance so you can't pass in front of him to get to your seat. Instead you must stand or sit on the floor for the entire lecture even though there are open seats.
PretEntious
Plusses: great lectures, passionate and inspiring teaching, charismatic and hot professor. Minuses: huge workload, and only puts comments on your paper if you specifically ask for them. Prepares you well for papers and final but still expects too much from average cc students.
Riveting, note-free lectures that always end too soon. (He almost always dismisses class 15-20 minutes early). Tests are straightforward and Schwyzer prepares you well. Kind and approachable in office hours but almost swaggeringly confident in class. Don't be intimidated, his bark is worse than his bite. And he's kinda cute.
You must take this class, it will change your life. Lots of writing, reading, most of it interesting. Hugo is a gifted lecturer, a great male feminist role model. We all agree his wife & daughter are so lucky! Only downside; he is technophobic and wont llet you use laptops, which is a real pain.
He changed my life.
Hands Down one of the Best Professors I have ever taken. If you want a "A". you really need to come to class, read all the books and write well in all the class essays!! he's also very helpful! He also changed my life for the better!! His lectures were amazing!!! if you need to take History 25B take his!! you will not regret it!! :)
Easily One of the best Professors in PCC. His lectures are amazing. this class will change your life. And it doesn't hurt the fact that he's a handsome professor!! :)
Great lecturer, but often rushes out of class as if he's too important (he's a well-known writer now.) His grading is consistent and fair, he doesn't play favorites, and if you can endure the wait to see him, he's helpful in office hours. My girlfriend was in love with him, which was annoying, but he's definitely not a creeper. Good class.
One of the hardest graders. Instead of realizing his classes are simple GE's he believes his curriculum is vital. ONLY take his humanities class if you are in gender studies or other related majors!!!
Schwyzer is definetly one of the best teachers at PCC. He does come off as a little arrogant, but that is shadowed by his incredible knowledge on the subject at hand. You HAVE to get the book. He grades on the harder side, but if you TAKE NOTES and just LISTEN to him you will definetly pass this class!
I've never worked so hard for an A. As are rare but possible with Schwyzer, whose lectures are always exciting. Amazing he never uses notes and has such command of detail. Charismatic but sometimes brusque, Schwyzer is a stickler for punctuality and favors good writers. Fair, demanding, old school. Must take if you can handle the workload!
Other raters exaggerate how hard he is. No papers, just quizzes;midterm; final. Prepares you in advance for everything, questions are fair and predictable. Textbook is mandatory. Great lectures, you'll never fall asleep. Not as hot as when he was PCC's young golden boy, but still attractive. Must take part of PCC experience!
He is AMAZING. he is always there to help his students out. He is defiantly NOT an "easy A" but then again a's should be easy you need to work for them just any other important thing in life. Read the books and GO TO CLASS, you'll be fine. I've taken him for 4 classes and I'm going to keep taking him. He is so clear and concise and very straight forward with what he expects from you.
Is Hugo easy? For most no. Is Hugo difficult? No. He is a fair professor. I enjoy his lectures, he can make the most boring thing fun and interesting. I never really liked european history but thanks to him I now do. 2 Multiple Choice tests 2 Essay tests (One closed book, One notes/book) he grades by how the class does. Great Professor.
Schwyzer is brilliant. And he knows it: as arrogant as he is articulate, he's the most skilled lecturer at PCC. Still hot. But he's more a performer than a real teacher, hard to engage with and dismissive of questions. He's the walking embodiment of the smug liberal elitist. But if you can get past the pomposity and the workload, you will learn.
Sweet dresser! Former seminary student turned sex and gender prof! Easy if you pay attention and listen. Hot nerdy guy, like a dr. Drew.
Sweet dresser! Former seminary student turned sex and gender prof! Easy if you pay attention and listen. Hot nerdy guy, like a dr. Drew.
I took his 1A & 1B classes first. Now in his 25B, which is much more intense. Lectures are powerful to the point of being overwhelming. Lots of writing, no scantron tests. Available in office hours but usually a wait to see him. Attendance is mandatory and he penalizes tardiness excessively. Only PCC professor with a Wikipedia entry about him!
Fair prof.
His lectures are incredibly clear. The stories he tell is like incredibly fascinating. He's an incredibly great speaker. @ scantron test and two essays. 50/50 test or based on lectures and book. Look at him all you want, he will make you feel dumb so you have to keep writing the notes.
If ur tkakin this class for History 1A, you will start question your religion. THat is all. He talks about Jesus times and other gods that exist before Jesus. After that class, i'm not loner a devoted catholic.......
He's not as hard as it appears from these other ratings. If you can write and read and show up (attendance counts for a lot), you'll do well and an A is definitely possible. Lots of reading but open book final. Schwyzer is a wonderful lecturer. Still hot for his age, you'll be more interested in what he says than his handsomenss.
Great lecturer, but doesn't suffer fools as gladly as he ought to, given that this is a community college. Tough but fair grader. Easy to pass, almost impossible to get an A. Yeah, some girls still think he's hot. You won't fall aslpee!
Notice everyone says he's a great lecturer? He is prob the best at PCC. But is he a great teacher? No, because what he does is "perform" brilliantly and then walk away. If you want help he's great in office hours but not available in classroom. Tests are challenging but admittedly fair. Great showman, looks good, nice guy but needs to TEACH.
He is in fact very helpful, always answers questions without making you feel like an idiot. Great lectures, makes you remember history not just memorize. Only bad side: has a silly no laptop rule. Get ready for hand cramps.
Quite possibly the greatest professor I have ever had. I respect his no extra credit policy. I like that his tests and essays are tough because when I ended up with an A, I knew it was only because I deserved it.
A fascinating class, women's history with Schwyzer is a lot of reading, writing, and class discussion. Final is cumulative. It's a life-changing course but it is a huge time investment. He's way too old to be hot, but a kind, funny, passionate professor who won't let you fall asleep. Take notes on post-its (thank me later)!
Getting ready for my 3 rd Schwyzer class. He's a great teacher, fair and captivating. His lectures are riveting and he is almost always willing to explain difficult points. Two quizzes, a midterm and a final. Grades on a curve so you compete against your classmates rather than against an objective standard. An A is definitely obtainable.
Best teacher I have ever had! His was the only class I ever actually wanted to attend. If you are willing to put in the work you will get a good grade. He should be at a University.
If you get a chance to take his Navigating P*rnography class (he's teaching it again in 2013) you must! Hugo doesn't tell you what to think but helps you find yourself. Lectures and discussions handle even touchy subjects like sexuality with comfort and clarity. Stickler for attendance and grammar but grades fair. great guest speakers too!
Schwzyer is a great lecturer, but be warned this class doesn't go to 1715. HS emphasized cultural history over military affairs, which I thought was quite disappointing. Tests are few and fair, but do require you to write well. HS graded students against each other, which is fairer than it sounds. No videos or other technology use. It is all lecture and discussion. He says you need textbook but that's only if you want an A. You can pass without it.
He was one of the greatest professor I ever take. He was clear, fun and really knowledgeable! But... His test was really hard! U get only 2 multiple choice test and 2 essay test. If you fail one test, it's almost impossible to get A.
Hugo is great as most has said. This class is different fr his euro civ classes. You do a lot more reading and writing. 2 massive essay assignments but they are insightful and rewarding. Not a class for slackers but for those interesting in something more than the generic college experience. A lot of work but rewarding.
One of the best PCC has. It's all old-school lecture, but it's expertly delivered. Only two exams and two quizzes based on lecture and text. You won't ever fall asleep!
He always lets us go a little early and it sounds impossible but I wish Hugo kept us the full time. I love his lectures. He's funny and passionate and really hot.
I'm amazed people think he's so hard. If you do the reading and show up, Hugo's a pretty easy A. The key is taking great notes. Doesn't test on book as much as threatens too. Hugo is still sexy and he knows it too, confident and charming and just a bit cocky. Great lectures. You shouldn't leave PCC without a class from this aging legend
This is a fun and interesting class and you won't ever be bored. Schwyzer is funny and approachable and definitely not that hard if you pay attention. Cool prof.
So far the best teacher I've had at PCC. I used to hate History until I took his class. I'm honestly shocked at how much Ive learned. Pretty easy A if you attend classes and take notes. Definitely recommended!
First day of class, I was intimidated. But over time I've come to really appreciate his personality. He's clear, he makes lecture entertaining and interesting, and learning in his class is easy. Book is required, since he purposely tests on subjects not covered in lecture. Great professor.
The infamous class... great guest speakers, amazing lectures, so much to learn. The workload isn't as intense as in his other classes. Schwyzer is an absolute must-take... a hot silver fox who will teach you to think differently about controversial topics.
I too took Professor Schwyzer's infamous p0rn class. Enough said. This class was amazing. Interesting subject matter + awesome guest speakers + excellent lectures = perfect class. He has at least 25 years on me but I STILL think he's super hot!
Schwyzer can be a bit of a prima donna: he's arrogant when challenged and though helpful in office hours, claims to be too busy to meet at any other times. But an amazing lecturer, fair grader and hot professor who clearly does love students and teaching. Do the work, don't ask dumb questions, take good notes, and follow him on twitter or FB.
I worked my YouKnowWhat off for a B from Prof. Schwyzer. My first B ever broke my GPA in his 25B! I got an A in his 1B though. I took two of his classes at same time because Prof Schwyzer because he is such a good lecturer and he makes class so interesting. Kinda hot if you're into older men, but more importantly a great teacher. BUT HARD!!
Hugo isn't nearly as difficult a prof as these comments imply. I got an A very easily:: you will have fascinating lectures and incredible guest speakers and get your mind blown. Hugo is the ideal soul to guide students through sensitive and controversial material while always respecting us. He's as kind as he is articulate and charismatic.
His in class essays are hard but it's a very interesting class. Just make sure you're NEVER LATE, he will have no mercy (if you're a late for a test he won't let you take it)
Going to class was like going to talk with a friend about history. Although he allows for very few questions. There isn't much to be confused about because everything in his class is straight forward.
I am sorry that Prof Schwyzer's own foolishness ruined the chances of many other students like my little brother to take his classes. He was a really good and inspiring teacher and he got me excited about history, which was a miracle.
He was the best professor I ever had. Whatever he did there should ought to have been some way to keep him teaching. Its been four years and I can still remember so much of what Hugo taught.
I miss this man. I had his class in 2010, went on to be a Gender Studies major and then received an MA. Hugo is still the best teacher at any level that I ever had. He was an engaging lecturer, warm and erudite and kind. Do not hesitate to take this class if you can!
