I do not really care for her personally and I don't think that she is a great teacher. It's all power points and when she tries to explain something from the book... she reads it to you instead of explains it. She hasn't been in the US very long (10 years or so) and has a VERY thick accent. If you can avoid taking her class... I would.

Class is basically having the book read to you and not much explaination unless you ask instead of making it known what is expected from each assingment. She gets offended when students are talking amongst themselves about things that don't even pertain to her. I got an A in her class but that was purely from teaching myself.
This teacher doesn't give a thing about anything she just there for her paycheck. Stay away from this teacher she doesn't speak good english and when you ask her something she act as if you can't ask no questions. Warning stay away. I took her for Geology II
Three to four kids in the class went to the head of the department about her. That just made things worse. Her grading scale? If you want to call it that is retarded. Ex. Test has 10 questions, you get 5 right, that's a 50% right? Not according to her, if more than half the class missed that question NOBODY gets credit for it..do the math 5 outof 9
I found her a very good teacher. Yes, I read the other comments: but, those guys need to pay attention in the class and study hard to get good grades. I have noticed, it is easy to blame a teacher for not getting good grades instead of studying hard and earning it. Just remember guys: it is a college not your primary schools?grow up.

This is the first online class available via TCC for Geology, and there are definitely some growing pains. Prof. Syed can be helpful, but often combative and inflexible. Quizzes and test structure is AWFUL! Watch how she grades EVERY assignment, tons of grading errors. Passable with an A, but A LOT of work!
I took the online geology class. It is filled with technical problems. She often makes mistakes in her grading. She can be very resistant to correcting the grade properly.
Ms. Syed is a great instructor. She explains the material to your understanding. She loves what she do and wants others to gain knowledge of what she loves....AWESOME teacher.
She is a very flexible and helpful instructor. Always ready to help. Very polite and nice. I recommend her on line class. Her lecture PPP are very funny and entertaining.

The content was presented well, but the online class has MANY errors. A lot of grading errors, and she did not want to help to fix them. She is hard to talk to and slightly rude. I would recommend taking a different teacher.

A very easy course, and a very easy going instructor. I recommend it highly since it is all open book. You take the mid term and final exam @ home with plenty of time to check your answers in the book. If you are still struggling, some thing is wrong with you :D
Most assignments were full of mistakes & instructions unclear. If you asked questions she treated you like you were right out of high school and trying to skate through the class. She made it clear that this was a college level course but her assignments having spelling and grammatical errors don't live up my expectations of a college professor.
A wondrful techer and a very difficult course. Had it not been an open book course I would have killed my self. But loved the instructor she is very help ful and pretty flexible.

I enjoyed Mrs. Syed's GEOL class. A lot of the Students that may have an issue in this class are "stuck in highschool." She was helpful and did what she could to help you succeed. Attend class and you will do fine. Open Book for the Exams = )

Horrible teacher! Knows the subject well, but talks down to students: abrupt and rude, both in person and via email. Online materials/tests riddled with errors and misspellings, won't correct grades even when clearly wrong. Tons of assignments, requiring work every day. Takes points off assignments, but provides no specific feedback why.
Syed reminds you that this a college class but treats the students children. Her tone and communicative demeanor are immensely condescending. Her material/test/assignments have tons of errors, misspellings and are she is rarely clear with what she is asking. Expect A LOT time consuming homework, and the lab classes are extremely long and mundane.
If you go threw & read the text, show up for class, & take notes you should do fine. The big problem I had with her is when I would go ask questions her answers weren't always clear & other students in my class felt the same way. Her tests are open book so that's a plus. If you understand you're in college, not high school, then I'd recommend her.

I truly think she is a great professor and I do like her teaching skills. The biggest problem I had is her lack of communication through email. If you are expecting an answer it will take awhile or you will have to ask/remind her. This is why I rated her so low, I would not recommend . Communication is key on a web class.
Mrs. Syed is very knowledgeable and helpful. Open book exams makes her course easy and a plus. She was very quick at responding to my emails. People who have been complaining needs to wake up and realize that we are in a very competitive educational environment. If we can not succeed at an open book course I wonder what else can we do?

I took this professor because she was the only one left when I signed up. I read the reviews but thought I will do the work and it will be fine. If you can avoid her do it half the class has dropped and when you ask a question by the time she answers it you have another one because her confusing answer. talks down to you too. i will barely pass.

Mrs. Syed harps on the fact that her classes are "college level" however, the mistakes found in her assignments and tests do not live up to the standards she claims to hold students to. The hybrid class I took was totally unorganized and a horrible waste of time. I just needed the class to graduate, taking it shouldn't have been this difficult.
She knows her stuff but she is an incompetent teacher. Discussion Board topics are out of date, she will return emails from some students but not others, and she is very inconsistent with the standards she holds students to. On quizzes you can take the answer straight from the book and still get it wrong. Her class helped to drop my GPA. Avoid!
Ms. Syed is a very good instructor. Her course is open book. She had been very diligent at returning the emails. I c a couple of people are not very happy with her. Taking the course for credit doesn't mean that the integrity of the course will be dropped for dumb students. If one can not pass an open book course, then I wonder what they can pass?
I took this class on line, lots and lots of reading material, never gets back to you when you email her, very rude, and you better have your text book,did not enjoy this on line class at all
She is by far the WORST professor I have ever taken. She is extremely rude and condescending. Her discussion board rules contradict what's on her syllabus and announcements. Her quizzes & exams are long & hard because they are not based on the text book very confusing. She doesn't respond to emails & will retaliate. Avoid her class if possible.
She gives GEOL 1405 at CTC, the material she uses does not correspond with the text book. when you take the quizzes its very much summing up a paragraph you read and guessing the answer. her labs are inconsistent and don't follow with the book, you will have to be best friends with google. her quizzes are 50 questions with 60 min. learn on your own
Can be very condescending. Admits she prefers Asian students. Not always very clear. MUST READ THE BOOK FOR QUIZZES AND TESTS (use online book to find answers). No reviews. She tells you to google answers. Somewhat negative atmosphere makes one feel they can't ask questions. Is frustrated when class doesn't participate and will talk down to class.
Quizzes have a lot of fill-in-the-blank which are often either wrong or too vague. Google will save you. Textbook is not always enough. Lectures always let out early and don't go into much detail. She assumes no one reads or pays attention when no one participates, but no one participates because she's so unclear. Passable for independent students.

Tough grader, book & participation are a must. Quizzes & tests are a little difficult. Quizzes you can take twice & the higher grade is recorded. She's clear on what she expects from the student. Labs are vague but if you have a question she will answer. All in all she's not too bad. I would take her again.
Open book course , seems easy but since it's open book it becomes tough, But I still find it interesting and will take more of her online classes.
Condescending. Discourages participation with her attitude but expects it anyway. Lessons are vague, read the book yourself. Syllabus is often off and there are spelling errors on the quizzes (which thankfully can be taken multiple times). Brags about how great Asian students are. Not a hard class, but teacher makes it harder than it needs to be.
Not very clear. Openly admits she think Asian students are better. Can be very condescending. Will answer if you ask questions but can be condescending about it. Quizzes can be taken twice. Almost seems like she doesn't know what she's talking about. Use online textbook to help with quizzes. You can look up answers. Test questions are from quizzes.
This one the only class available to take at the moment and out of 20 something students only 5 stayed in her class. She is hard to understand and has the class divided into two confusing grading systems. I have never experienced such a hard time understanding a professor as I did with her. I did all my work and still failed not sure why.

Unorganized, doesn't respond to all emails and when she does it's to put you down and not give out help, online syllabus doesn't correspond to the quizzes that have to be taken, self taught class. Wouldn't suggest this teacher to any one.

She knows her stuff about Geology but is an awful instructor when it comes to organization and what to expect in her class. She is all over the place. Telling some students one thing and others another. She changes her dues dates and is not consistent with what she does and says.

Syed is awesome! She goes above and beyond, shows up early and leaves late if you need help. I took a seven week hybrid class geology 1403 she taught the lab. There is a little homework but you can get all the help you need. If you need a science this is the professor!
I took the lab with her and she is simply Superb.
All of these say awesome, im shocked at her rating I had the WORST experience with her. Doesn't answer questions takes days to answer, she wont help but rather send you links to help, on top of attitude. I posted two times complaining about her and my comments are GONE. DONT TAKE HER. I put in effort to pass and received no help. she doesn't care.
I would NOT recommend this professor for anyone taking an online class. She contradicts the directions of the lab manual assignments, and assumes that you are aware of the rules she is choosing to permit per assignment. She is very inconsistent and unorganized. Also, not willing to help, only to tell you you arent working hard enough.
Syed is a very approachable professor and the online labs themselves were not too difficult. She is willing to help you and explain assignments. would take her again.
I don't know why Syed got subpar ratings. She was nice to me when I needed assistance with the labs for my summer GEOL1403 class. Other students in my class seemed to not wanted to take responsibility for not checking their emails because that's the only way SHE CAN COMMUNICATE for an online class. Syed is challenging but, willing to work with you!
I had her for the lab part of GEOL1403, summer I, and it was definitely tough. This class is very time consuming but actually helps you learn the material. Her emails can be a bit condescending and unprofessional (airing dirty laundry/class drama) but overall I really do think she cares and is willing to work with you even if a bit reluctant.

Its the same course that every instructor is teaching. From what I have heard others instructors are very difficult and rude. I have taken 1403 from her and she works with her students. She is lenient and works with her students always.
I just finished a course with her. Its an elearning class that is the usual but with different instructors. Some don't give a damn but Syed does. She is very respected and caring and would let you submit missed exams and quizzes depending upon the reason but she is pretty flexible.

Syed is the worst professor I have had. She is knowledgable about the subject of Geology but is a bad teacher. I had her for my lab and lecture. she is unorganized in both classes, jumping around and not following the syllabus. She seems to change rules, she is not clear on expectations, because she doesn't know what she wants. plus an attitude.

This class has been unnecessarily difficult. Keep track of your grades on your own and screenshot everything for proof. This professor is not helpful.

This is an online course which is bieng taught by different instructors. I would say Ms. Syed is very knowledgable and willing to work around students with issues. She lets the student submit their work late which other instructors teaching the same course don't.

Please take someone else. Syed came off as lazy and overly critical in grading. She links Youtube videos to lectures that are 6-8 years old and made by other professors. The Zoom meetings are rife with technical issues making them unhelpful. If she does respond to an email, she may miss your point by miles. The exams are proctored.

Syeds class was pretty chill. just do the work and you'll pass. its almost impossible to fail her class. if you do that means you were just too lazy to do the work. she's also pretty lenient with the deadlines

Fill-in answers MUST be spelled correctly or its automatically wrong- but responds to an email "u r" instead of proper grammar, said lectures were optional then gave failing grades for attendance, VERY RUDE TO STUDENTS, NOT flexible- essentially told many students "not my problem life happens, figure it out", everything is open note
Mrs. Syed is one of the best professors to take a class with. She is very easy going and caring. All exams are online, open book and open resource. Quizzes are not timed. No lab exams. She lets students submit work late. Though her syllabus says she will take point s off of late work but she never takes off any points. She is a GEM.

Quite rude and won't admit when wrong... don't be surprised when she contradicts the textbook on a quiz and doesn't bother to take accountability or update the question when you reach out. Other than that, fairly easy course as long as you do your readings.

Save yourself a lot of stress and find another instructor! Too much work and labs. She has very poor communication, and you have to depend on yourself all the time to succeed in her class.
I do not recommend taking this professor. Every test and quiz is open note/book, but the answers are rarely in any of the material given. In the syllabus she told us to use google. She doesn't help you at all and she treats you like a child. There are no lectures and the videos given aren't even hers. I didn't learn a thing.
She was rude and her labs were IMPOSSIBLE. Even when it was her mistake, she would never fix it and blame it on the student. She will never help you with anything in her class. She did let you submit late though.

Watch out for this teacher. She is not great with technology and was quite rude. The course setup was confusing, and often the quizzes didn't match the material. All open note/book. Almost no lecture and I basically had to teach myself. I definitely would not take her again.
Took her for her weekend course. Her lectures aren't very helpful she reads off exactly what she gives us. ALL of her work is on Chegg, Quizlet, and Course hero. Use those and this class will be a breeze.

I have taken 3 courses with her. She is very helpful and knowledgable. Always willing to help and work with us. My mom passed away during the course and I was very upset and she helped me tremendously throughout the course length. I had a rough semester since my mom had been very sick but Mrs. Syed made it work for me. She is very caring and empathatic towards her students. If it wasnt for her I would have never been able to pass this course.

This Professor does not implement clear guidelines for grading. This professor is unable to properly run an online course without causing stress and issues for students taking the course.

Not the best professor. Communication can be spotty, and often confuses her online students. Refuses to give correct feedback -- you have to literally beg for it. Very rude and sarcastic. The list goes on if I'm being honest. Not sure how all the negative reviews are somehow disappearing, but consider this as your red flag... RUN.
Terrible professor she only treats student from her kind well. I told her I was struggling mentally and she asked me for proof? I asked for an extension for only a couple of hours not even a full day! Definitely racist and prefers some students over others.
