Not the easier class. Alot of stuff, hard to understand teacher at times
Humberto is cool. Although the course material is difficult at times, it was a good class overall.
This class is very diffucult. The only advantage is that it doesn't have a lab but he reallly tries to make you learn this stuff and it's not easy. His tests are a bit hard and he has no curves and is VERY stingy with extra credit.
Hard as hell....this takes serious studying and class attendance is a requirement...but you do learn a lot of info.
He's not an easy A. His class is fun because he makes stupid jokes and does the wierdest things to demonstrate concepts. I studied for this class and have an A. If you want to learn what he calls the Physics of the Universe then this is the place to be.
Material is difficult for him to explain, he's very disorganized, but it's really not hard to get a good grade, especially with the extra credit he offers all the time. Sometimes he's funny, but mostly not.
The first and last test are killer! The second test is easier. He doesn't explain the mathematical concepts that well. Attendence counts for 10% of your grade as well!
This was his first year teaching at UCF and he changed the class from what it used to be. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS FOR AN EASY A. He is helpful and tries hard to get the concepts across but does not always do it well.
Very nice guy. Actually cares that you understand the material. Only 3 tests though. The tests are not that difficult if you go over the notes.
Humberto was awesome! He really wants to make sure his students learn and is always willing to go the extra mile. I definately recommend this class to anyone!
I would defintely recommend this class. Humberto is funny but if you want an easy A this is not the class for you. You can get an A but you have to go to all the lectures and study your notes throughly.
GO to group discussions as often as possible and GO see him for office hours. No HW or LAB. He really makes you earn your grade. He obviously loves his subject and knows it well. Sometimes gets a little too excited and talks fast. Overall good course.
This semester he hasnt taken attendance one time. He knows his stuff and really tries to help students. He will answer ANY question. His tests come from online quizzes and questions from his notes. It has been really easy so far.
Tests are all off the in-class notes. There is no homework or quizzes. The only things you get graded for are tests and attendance. The tests are not that hard, and he does a detailed review before. Prof. Campins is a great teacher and I loved this class.
Campins is the man. REALLY excited about astronomy and really dedicated to helping students. Great teacher! Tests come from his lectures, which are not too hard.
This class is easy if you come to lectures, take the online quizzes, and study for tests using that information. Also gives e.c.But watch out he will point you out in class and ask you questions. Also will point you out if you arent paying attention.
This is a really great class, the professor really knows his stuff, teaches it well, and has a great sense of humor. I have him at 7:30 am two days a week and I have yet to fall asleep in his class. Tests are REALLY easy if you attend class and take notes
Fun teacher who knows what he is talking about. As long as you go to class and take notes you'll do fine. All tests and online quizzes are from the notes. He didn't like the text so i didnt even have to read it. Makes class interesting and entertaining.
He knows what he is talking about, and makes the course interesting. I found him to be understanding, and answers all questions. Exams are striaght from his notes, and you don't really need the book maybe just for the online quizes. Overall easy going.
Definitely take this course with this professor. SO excited about astro that his excitement transfers to his students. Lots of chances for extra credit. Go to class and do the E.C. and you will have problem getting a good grade! :)
Such an awesome teacher!Really cares about students.I'm bad at science, and he made it very clear.Take notes because that's what he tests on.Go to classes because he explains things great.Really got me into Astronomy.
Hard class in general. However, Campins is so excited about astronomy and really knows a lot. Don't talk or not pay attention because he will point you out. And don't sit in the back row in a big class, he will volunteer you to answer his questions.
love this guy! so funny, makes science fun for a change. Lecutures are very interesting + very clear. Everything is outlined + there is lots of EC. Do online quizzes + study for an easy A or B. There are 3 exams and 1 opt. final. Take this class!!!
The class wasnt that interesting. If you get a B on all 3 tests and then you do the extra credit. You will get an A in the class. There are 5 percentage points possible for extra credit. I had a 85 and ended up with an A because of the extra credit.
Dont listen to these idots. He tells you exactly what to write down on the test. The material is extremely easy. Studying planets shold not be that hard. If you go to class, you will get an A. You have the oppurtunity to gain 5 extra points!
Campins is awesome! Attend class and pay attention. Go to office hours and he will help you study for the test (He develops a liking to students who sit in the front and go to office hours)He is an amazing teacher and person and you will get an A.
Don't Slam the Door!!!! or he will call you out
ud better not slam the door!!! or else!!!
HARD Class...He is obsessed with people slamming the door, and will stop class to tell you not to slam the door. He is a bad teacher, tests are soooo hard and the lectures are soooo boring. He could def make it more interesting, i dont know why he doesnt
DONT SLAM THE DOOR
he sucks...hard class...wouldn' take if possible
He is the worse teacher I have ever had in my life. I get all A's and have a c- and struggling to keep it right now. I had A's in all my previous sciences courses. He should not be allowed to teach. He is also really not a nice guy. He is really not a good teacher.
I love this class! Everything that is on the test is in the notes from class, which are given through power-point! So if you don't ever want to read the book you don't have to. Plus he gives extra credit!! All you have to do to get an A is go to class and take down all the notes! Easy A
Easy Class, Notes are striaght from the book, he knows wut hes talkin about though, tests are sumwhat difficult if you dont study, extra credit quizzes online, hes a nice guy, just dont slam the door when you come in late and if you plan on comin in late he'll call you out n ask you questions
What I like the most about him is that his tests come completely from the notes. He does powerpoint presentations with all the things you need to know, and although he likes to speed through his lectures, he is willing to slow down for people who need to catch up or for those who have questions.
All of these boneheads that are complaining that his class is "so hard" obviously don't show up for class AT ALL. He gives you EVERYTHING that is on the tests in his lectures, and even gives TEST QUESTIONS in his powerpoint slides. Also he give EC. You have to be stupid or not come to class to fail.
freakin awesome
Don't listen to any of these people. The teacher is awful. His questions on his PP do not show up on the test.
Campins tells corney jokes, gives uber amounts of information, and is not at all interested in helping students. He cares very much about the subject, but isn't interested in helping students that don't understand the material or anyone questioning his methods. I got an "A" and hated every minute.
Prof Campins is a decent guy. His method of teaching is very comprehendable to the average college student. He tells alot of stupid jokes to make astronomy a little more fun than it actually is. Lots of opportunity for extra credit. I skipped class alot and only went to reviews and still got an A.
This guy is ridiculous. He is trying to bribe us to write good evaluations by saying jokes all the time. He teaches nothing.
this class is pretty easy. he gives you alot of information but he gives you EVERYTHING you need to know for the tests. They are nothing but his notes and its not challenging.
Stay away....Horrible teacher
Don't take him.
I love Astronomy now beacuse of campins and this class. He has an incredible knowledge and interest in astronomy and passes this along to willing students. Go to office hours, get to know the guy, and you will get out of this class what you are willing to put into it. Enjoy it, its interesting!
I agree with the person who said that `this guy is trying to bribe us with silly jokes'. He should stick to the material.
Worse teacher at UCF
bad teacher
Great guy. Super helpful, lots of opportunities for extra credit. Will pratically answer test questions for you if you ask. Get to know him and he will pull strings for you. All around great guy, don't know why people are rating him poorly, but I had honors which is a small class so that probably made it better.
The only person who would like this guy is a complete brown noser. This guy is an awful teacher.
Dr. Campins is great professor. He gives plenty of opportunities for extra credit, has power point notes telling you everything you need to know for the tests, and is always available to help. He does make corny jokes, but it's not to "win you over"; he's just really passionate about teaching.
His passion and enthusiasm for the material is obvious, and he does everything he can to make it clear to the students. A great teacher.
One of my only C's at UCF. That should be enouch of a review.
This guy knows his material very very well. He loves to answer questions and makes the material very clear. Gives chances to earn extra credit by doing online quizzes and going to SARC. Tests are not hard if you study. I recommend him.
Okay, everyone who's saying he's hard, I don't understand how you got into college. EVERYTHING on the tests is straight from the powerpoint, and you don't even need a textbook. All you have to do is go to class and take notes from the slides. You don't even have to listen to what he's saying. I listened to my Ipod during every class and got an A.
great teacher...really tries to get people to like Astronomy. Just go to the lectures and you'll do fine
He was a good teacher but be weary if you do not know much about astronomy. Sometimes he's a bit vague. All in all enjoy the humor and take good notes you'll pass the class
In my four years at UCF one of the best professors I've had. Makes astronomy fun and interesting. Just go to class and study the notes and there should be no problem, wonderful professor.
If you like jokes and no knowledge, then that's your class. Most people like him since he is not teaching.
If you're trying to find a class to fill your ge science requirement, definitely take him. the class is pretty easy as long as you actually go. it's not necessary to buy the book. i went to every lecture and took notes from the powerpoint. i reviewed the notes the day before each test and wound up with a b. he's entertaining and helpful.
I went to this class everyday, but, still got NOTHING out of it. He reads the powerpoint directly from the screen...incredibly BORING! It is sooo horrible...i would NOT!!! take this class...EVER!!!!
My major is art studio and art and science don't go well together, but when i took campins hes one of the best teachers at UCF. If you study his notes on the overhead and GO TO OFFICE HOURS he is a VERY generous person with your grades if you show at least a small dedication that you're trying. i got an A in this class. pLEASE take him hes amazing!
He is a great teacher. I don't understand why people have such a hard time in the class. Everything is straight forward. Would take again. Gives you an extra 3 points to boost your grade by taking online quizes and SARC. Final was a repeat of the reviewed tests. No new material.
Horrible. He is so boring, trys to be funny but he is not. All he does is read straight from the slides and I got nothing from this class. He acts like a question is taking time away from his lecture and tells you to go to SARC with your questions. Do not take him!! If you like all jokes and no learning then this is your guy.
Great class if you have an interest in Astronomy. Also a good indicator of a possible major if inclined.
All students who do not do well in Dr. Campins class either do not 1)pay attention, 2) read the material, 3) come to class, or 4) go to his office hours. He is the most helpful professor at UCF hands down! He cares about his students and their comprehension of the material. AWESOME TEACHER!
Very easy class and awesome professor. Easy A! All you have to do is make sure you go to class and copy down the notes from his powerpoints and that is exactly what is on the tests, and you don't have to take the final if you are satisfied with your grade.
This guy wants to be loved by all students. He tries very hard to make us do so but it becomes so obvious that it is fake. He should try to teach something instead.
Easy class. You do not learn anything, but you have good fun.
amazing professor! knows so much and has SO many amazing experiences! really loves his field, and it comes across to the students and makes it easier for us to understand because of his passion. great!
I've never had such an enthusiastic professor! It's obviously that he truly enjoys what he does. Lectures are clear but fun, and he goes out of his way to make sure his students understand the material. He's always available to help. It's not an easy A, but if you pay attention and pull your own weight you will be just fine!
One of the best teacher I have had, very enthusiastic and helpful. The class is challenging, it consists of three test.Do the extra credit, (it helps your understanding and grade). Just work hard and you will get a good grade. I learned a lot in this class and I find myself looking at the stars in awe once again.
I absolutely love Dr. Campins! His class is wonderful, we learned a lot and the tests were very straightforward. The loves Astronomy so much he wants us to share his love for it also.
He LOVES astronomy and makes class enjoyable!
The class is boring. I'm not a science person & maybe thats why, but literally he/the class puts me to sleep. He puts the powerpoints online and studying them will get you a decent enough grade. Study hard and a B isn't that hard to pull. An "A" is out there.
Hes a good teacher and loves what he does. He really tries to make class enjoyable. Class is not hard 3 tests and an optional final and homework is extra credit but its really easy. If you want an A just read the book. Its an easy read and really interesting.
Class is soo boring, classroom is freezing. Never used the book or clicker, don't bother to buy them. He's relatively funny but it gets old after a while. Only 3 tests so not much goes toward your final grade.
Great class, okay prof. 3 tests and optional final. Extra credit, but not enough to make a difference unless you are 1 point away from earning a higher grade. Get the book/software if you want EC. He put the powerpoints online, so there wasn't a point in going. Skipped half the classes (class was twice a week, I went once a week), and got a B+.
One of the best teachers I've ever had! I have never done well in science classes, and he made everything easy to understand. Extremely helpful, always willing to answer questions. And a great guy!
If you want a professor who loves what he does and wants you to get a good grade, take his class. He will go above and beyond to help you if you ask. I learned a lot, and he is one of the best professors I've had.
Although his classroom is freezing, He's a great teacher who truly loves what he teaches. Material isn't easy...it's more like Astro physics...but attend class and you'll do fine. 3 tests are relatively easy. Offers extra credit but its virtually useless. I highly recommend him!
He really loves what he teaches and it makes the class even better. The material is interesting and easy. Three tests with an optional final and extra credit opportunities.
Campins is awesome! He loves what he teaches, and that makes it a lot more interesting, he gives a review for each test that is basically what is on the final, optional final exam which is great.
HE is a great professor, you better come to the reviews it is what is on the test, and pay atention the in class question they come in the test, test3 is the hardest one, so do good on 1 and 2, lots opportunity for extra credit! overall great teacher and very funny
Great teacher and keeps his lectures entertaining. All the questions on his tests are straight out of his lectures. Don't bother with the textbook.
Pretty Good. Test are from the lectures notes/ppt slides. Extra Credit is only 3 percent/(points). It can make a difference if you're close to the next grade, but whoever said that there is TONS of EC opportunities are wrong.
GREAT Professor. For someone with NO interest in science, he made my last science extremely manageable and was able to somewhat capture my interest. PowerPoint Lectures. 3 exams, optional final, optional homework (which only took about 20 minutes each week), NO BOOK, up to 3% extra credit added to your final grade. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Awesome professor! Loves what he does and makes it interesting. Up to 3 extra credit percentage points.
Very enthusiastic and kind professor. Always willing to help students learn and wants them to understand the material. Easy class and you will learn a lot!
I love Professor Campins, he truly cares about his work and does an excellent job of teaching it! The more interactive you are in the class, the more he will enjoy your time as his student. If you come to class and pay attention, getting the online textbook for extra credit won't be necessary. Either way, this class was awesome!
I loved Dr. Campins! I had to take Honors Astronomy to fulfill a science credit, and I'm glad I chose this class (I'm a PoliSci major). The only grades for the class are three tests plus the final, but the final is optional. Homework is extra credit, and the tests are based on lectures, which he uploads online. Definitely recommend this class!
Campins is the kind of professor you would enjoy having as a relative or friend. His enthusiasm is contagious, and his lectures are always helpful and engaging. He is a very gifted teacher who will go to great lengths to help his students with virtually anything, be it the material, career planning, or anything else. 10/10 would recommend.
Campins is an absolute joy. He is like a lovable grandpa and is incredibly knowledgeable and excited about astronomy. I would recommend not purchasing the book or doing the homework because it does not help on tests, the tests are strictly lecture-based and come from the review slides. The best class to take if you need a science and hate science.
Dr. Campins is so sweet and a great professor. He's passionate about astronomy and makes his class really interesting. He offers some extra credit and his tests are fairly easy if you study his powerpoints and take notes. Highly recommend!
Not sure if this review counts since I was a student of Dr. Campins *decades* ago when he was at UF, but he was by far the most engaging professor of my entire college career. His explanations were clear and his enthusiasm made the class a joy. I would get up early for his extra discussion sessions even though I was acing the class. He's that good!
Coursework is lecture heavy with weekly readings from scientific journals that he provides free access to. The readings are considered non credit and won't hurt your grade but they do help with understanding material. He provided extra credit and allows for your lowest test to be dropped. Super caring and funny. Participate. I loved this class!
Best professor I've ever had. Goes above and beyond to make sure his students are getting the best content they signed up for. Class is engaging and very insightful, it is suggested to be textbook-heavy but the textbook in of itself is good and easy to get through, and it's not really a chore by any means. Definitely pick this class if you need it
I took AST2000 with Professor Campins online. The class was easy, but make sure you trust the powerpoints more than the textbook. There isn't much homework, and even when there is, it doesn't take very long.
DO NOT TRUST THE OTHER REVIEWS. This is a 1/10 class. SUPER hard tests and he doesn't use the book at all. Look elsewhere.
this class is an easy A if you put in the work. he gives you all the material you need in the class lectures, the textbook just helps with in depth definitions and a better understanding of it. if you dont want to put in the effort, dont take this class, but its an easy A if you do. hes also extremely helpful it you are confused at all.
bad class. do not take
Was fantastic throughout the semester. Genuinely cares about helping you understand content. If you actually study and take notes the exams are fine (lowest grade 92.5). Only thing was many people's grades dropped a few points at the end of the semester and he submitted grades w/o fixing. Hopefully a mistake that won't be repeated. Still great tho.
a very kind professor. you have very little homework. all 3 tests are based off his powerpoints from lectures so you will barely use the book. there is an optional final exam for those who are not satisfied with their grade. overall this professor is a solid choice if you're trying to meet a requirement!
Professor Campins is a great guy but I really wouldn't consider this class an easy A. I was super upset when I thought this would be easy and ended up being one of my only B's. Only one of the three exams is on Quizlet so that tells you everything. Lectures weren't mandatory but it was difficult to find things in the powerpoints.
One of the best professors I've ever had. He works in the field of astronomy, and so when questions are asked, he can and LOVES to discuss it. He's very passionate about it, and does an excellent job at communicating the material to students. He wants you to succeed and provides you with whatever you need to so. He's also funny. Highly recommend!
Professor Campins is a very caring and engaging professor. He's genuinely very funny and entertaining in lectures and shares lots of interesting stories about projects he has been a part of. Aside from exams, the workload was to summarize one article a week. Many of the articles were quite long, but the summaries were graded more on completion.
Professor Campins is a joy to learn from - super passionate about astronomy and makes the material engaging. Unstuck study is a great study tool to complement his lectures.
Absolutely loved Prof Campins. Super duper sweet, and very funny in lecture. He very obviously cares a lot about what he teaches, as well as his own students. I am an astrophysics major and he would often reach out to me and offer me advising and assistance with whatever I needed help with. Tests were true to lecture and not difficult.
