Humberto's a great teacher. He cares for his students and tries to build a bond with them. The only tests are the midterm and final, but he gives pop quizzes at the end of just about every book. The only issue I had was that he assigns only one philosophy paper and you're pretty much left with no guidance on how to write it.

Overall, I enjoyed taking philosophy with Humberto Cuen. Participation is definitely high valued, he has you report the amount of times you participated in class and keeps track of the number. There are a good amount of readings but they're not hard. He does give pop quizzes but they aren't hard and he will usually hint on when to expect a quiz.

Really enjoyed this class. He explains everything clearly and always answers everyone's questions. Participation is graded on a points system. "Pop" quizzes (that he will always hint at), a midterm, a final, and a 1-2 page assignment. You don't HAVE to do the readings but they're definitely helpful. Take good notes and pay attention in class.

prof cuen is not as harsh of a professor as people make him out to be. he's funny and presents the material very clearly. his quizzes are short and as long as you pay attention in lecture you should be fine. the two essays are both VERY straight forward and he gives clear guidelines on what he's looking for. take him if you can!!

Professor Cuen is very intelligent and has a lot of interesting things to say. I learned a lot from his class and his content is easy to follow if you do the work. I liked his critical feedback on my essays so that I could get better at writing, but he can also be pretty critical during class which makes it stressful to answer questions.

Professor Cuen is a fascinating professor. His lectures were always interesting and attendance was mandatory. He was really funny, and I enjoyed going to his class. He's very intelligent and speaks his mind which some people might take offense to, but I personally enjoyed it. He got to know his students, and I really appreciated that. Light work.

I love him with my whole heart. Anyone who gave this man a bad review is too sensitive. If you are engaged in this class, you will love it. He is a very tough guy, but he does it for the benefit of the students. If you want to pass this class, meet with him more than just in class; he is super educational and knows what he is talking about.

Took him last fall and all I can say is if you're not putting in 10000% effort in this freshman core class then there's no way you'll get higher than a B in this class. its ridiculous how much effort and how difficult he makes this class considering its an intro class and a core requirement.

He's one of the most knowledgeable professors I've ever had. However, he's one of those profs who takes pride in being hard. He told our class on the first day: "This class is not for the weak or faint of heart..." It was a level 1000 course lol. He hates giving out As. I'd say take him if you're a Phil major, don't take him for the core curriculum

The most knowledgable professor I have taken. He seems intimidating at first, but it's just his teaching style, and it's pretty entertaining. Only need to participate in 7 classes for the entire semester to get an A in participation, tough grader and there are very few graded assignments, but his lectures are amazing and very informative.

Humberto is a decent professor. He does try to scare people on the first week, describing students who he thinks should not take his class. Do not let this deter you, the class is fine. He is very passionate about Philosophy and the class is interesting. Is he the nicest professor you'll have? No, but the work load is light and class is good!

I would not recommend or retake this class. Professor Cuen is very critical and sarcastic, occasionally ruse to students if you're not a favorite. Wants students to understand only philosophers' perspectives and does not implement comparison into a student's life (an important part of studying philosophy). Do not give hw, occasionally readings.

He takes pride in his class being “difficult” and the class averages being below an A. He legit said our class did “atypically well” when the final course average was a B+. He's honestly just rude too. It's not an “act” he drops like the one review says. Avoid this course, I know I wish I had!

DO NOT TAKE, TRUST ME. he's extremely prideful and egotistical. it's like he deliberately tries NOT to give you a real A. really slow grader. won't read your papers ahead of time in OH, so don't even try; prefers to grill you on the content instead. super hard to get an A. don't disregard this and think you'll be the exception -- avoid.

He sometimes makes out of pocket comments, but they are funny. The course is not that hard and is not difficult to pass. He requires participation and keeps track of it.
