He was pretty nice and helpful at first made the test seem like it was going to be pretty easy, but it was NOT. There are about 5-7 questions and the pages are completely blank so either you know it or you don't. Partial credit is pretty hard to get and some questions he won't even allow partial credit. Test based on homework so do it!
The most useful advice I can tell you is... DO NOT TAKE HIM!! When I first searched for an accounting class, I tried to rate my professor for this guy but he wasnt found, so I figured meh, he cant be all that bad. I mean if i just study and put my mind to it ill be fine right? WRONG!!
Class is not mandatory, lectures are semi interesting, he can make you laugh. But the most important thing about taking a class is the grade right? His test are all solve the problem type questions, and are literally nearly impossible to figure out. His questions are ridiculous! If you wanna pass then dont take him, take anyone else but him!!
Great teacher!!! wants students to learn and explains things until you understand it.So passionate about teaching and so helpful to help students. He curves alot 10% and he is one of the easiest acc teachers at school. All you need to do is study the home work and for sure you will pass. But this is not an easy class. Take him!!
You'd think it was be easy to get an A in this class bc ALL exams are EXACTLY from hw, except he changes the numbers. But, there were TOO many hw problems to memorize. But at least you won't be surprised to see whts on the exam. But he CURVES BIG TIME!
Deceptively helpful at first. Convinces you that if you understand the lectures and homework, you'll be fine. You can have a strong understanding of Accounting, and he'll still find a way to fail you. No partial credit on any exams or quizzes. Exams are extremely difficult and most of the class will not be able to complete it.
One of the best instructors in Accounting department. Explains the material very well. Enthusiastic about teaching. Friendly and approachable. His exams are not easy, but if you do the homework, you can get get good grade. Definitely recommend him. It's a tough subject. 3 exams, 2 quizzes, and a paper.
If you want to know what the 9th circle of hell feels like, then take this guys tests. That being said, the dude knows his stuff and you will be definitely ready for your next acct class after this one. If you pass, that is...
Pay attention during lectures and do your homework. There is a lot of problems but if you can't finish them all, do as many as you can and understand the concept. Test questions come from hw and lecture-- if you try, it's doable. Don't expect much of a curve. Great professor that knows what he's doing; has a good sense of humor too.
Dr Lu is smart. He understands all the concepts, however sometimes when explaining he makes it seem more difficult. The class did poor on the second test so he gave an extra test and dropped the lowest. He also gave us extra credit assignment.Very understanding of student needs and he even came in on his off days to conduct exam reviews.nice guy
He's very strict on the presentation of journal entry and other financial statements. Major points'll be deducted if not following his format. Not collecting HWs, tests & quizzes are mainly from HWs, do ur HWs 2-3 times and u will be fine! One 5 pages single-spaced research paper. He's normally very generous on the paper.Explaing materials clearly
Research professor so very familiar with models, knowledgeable in accounting. But may not well prepared or concentrate on teaching. The test and hw are easy. Easy A if you familiar with accounting, but hard B, if you never know accounting. Plus, VERY handsome.
Prof Lu definately want to help the student. Sometimes his examples are not that clear, but he will re-explain always. He even would come in on sundays and have review session with the class. Very nice, tests are exactly what the homework is and you can always go to the book for reference. Overall he was good.
Professor Lu is very helpful. He assigns homework, but it is not mandatory. His class consists of 3 exams, one paper and a final. His exams are not difficult. If you go over the homework and the book, you should pass.
I have to say I learned a lot from. Repeat the HW questions a few times and take notes during the lectures and u will get an 'A'. Good teacher.
Lectures are clear and efficient. Attendance is not necessary but highly recommended to do well in the class. Just do the homework problems and go over the powerpoints. Three exams, no surprises. one easy paper and a final that is very much like the exams. Isn't the easiest of classes but he's a good professor! highly recommend
Very good at explaining the subject attendance not mandatory There are 3 tests & a final hw is not mandatory but its smart to do bc some test questions are right from the hw this isnt an easy class you actually need to study dont think you can just listen to lecture & get an A in the class read the book do the hw & attend class & you will do good
If you don't have the previous knowledge from lower division accounting, you are screwed. He is not helpful when at his office as he expects you to know everything. Wouldn't recommend if you are not pro in accounting.
Recommend not to take him if you are still having difficulties in Accounting 201 & 202.
Very nice teacher. His exams are very tough, but he is very helpful and explains things well. Willing to help you after class or in office hours. Homework not turned in but very helpful and he posts the solution so you can check your work. I strongly recommend him if you plan a career in accounting.
Not recommend him. His tests are super difficult because not everyone can finish the test on time.
He is kind of tough and doesn't respond to emails. His lectures are boring and dont know what he expects on his exams.
DONT TAKE HIM! his test are really tough, and no matter how hard you study, it's impossible to get a good grade in this class.
The most useless Professor I have ever come across. Accounting is my mager and he does nothing to help you. This professor is actually working against you. DO NOT TAKE HIM!
This guy is useless. Worst instructor ever. This is my major and when he is teaching the material it sounds like a different language. His tests are extremely difficult. He will give new material a day before the test and expect you to know it by then. He is not on the students side. He gets mad when you ask what he feels is a stupid question.
His class is super boring, makes the material seem harder than it is. Makes everything more confusing and his test are hard
He is really boring, don't know what to expect on the exam. His exams are super hard! Wouldn't recommend him.
I would not recommend him. Exams are confusing and he expects you to know everything from your "principles course" as he always states. Too bad we couldn't choose the professor since the class schedule displayed "Staff" until semester started. BE AWARE!!
he is best professor ever. those who complained about his tough exam is none-sense! he explained every concept so clearly that only the dump students can not understand. If you attend class every time, and do HW. You will get an A for sure, If you can not get through, change your major. because you are cut out for accounting
Good teacher. Very smart.
Really smart guy and knows his stuff. The tests are a bit hard, but as long as you come to class and to the homework you should get an easy A. I think the people that rated him poorly probably didnt bother to do the homework smh
Professor Lu is knows a lot about accounting but he rushes through the material fairly quickly. I would recommend doing the homework he assigns and forming study groups for the exams. There are 4 exams, one writing assignment and no quizzes. Homework is not collected.
Prof Lu is an efficient teacher. The book is hard to understand, but he simplifies the concepts to the point where kids could understand them. His tests are not hard, as he pretty much uses homework questions with different numbers. Doing well in his class is a matter of working hard, not being inherently smart..(Go to class + put forth effort = A)
Very smart professor, he taught his ways that is better to understand than the book. Clear explaination. Must do homework, come to class everytime, and read chapter from his slides, read from the book too. U ll get A
Overall, GREAT prof. 4 exams including final which is not comprehensive & one writing assign (start early). Understand & do the h.w. until you know it by heart and you should do well on the exams (fyi: h.w.'s not collected, but do it and don't get behind). Read the text book. Go to class; he is interesting and clear in lectures. :)
He is the best accounting teacher that I met. Definitely take him if you want to understand and learn stuff . Not easy, but very very very helpful.!
best accounting professor I have ever taken, in a perfect world, every professor would be as clear and concise as him.. he actually lectures and gets you engaged, instead of these other clueless professors who literally get up there and just read off powerpoints.. he is right up there with francis mummery the econ prof
Super smart and awesome teacher. No wiley plus stupid homework. You will not regret for your life. Take him, please!
This professor, in my opinion, was just the worst ever. You can do well in the class, if you solely study from the book and read the entire thing by yourself. His lectures actually caused more confusion, and he IS NEVER HELPFUL. Will not stay back and answer questions. Asked him to help me after class but he packed up and walked out.
I got A+, love him. Take his class, please
Very straightforward class if you do the reading. Reading before or after lectures will immensely help you learn the material. 3 exams, an easy paper, and a department final. Highly recommended.
Hung Lu's exam are fair and pretty straightforward. He does slightly spin the work-out problems. Just practice the homework and go over the slides. You don't need to be super smart but, you do need to work hard to get B and higher grade. So, if you're not committed..dont take him. Personally, his teaching confuses me as he over-explains everything
Only two days with his class but I would say he is passionate in accounting teaching. His way to instruct students master the materials not memorize. His lecture is interesting and straightforward. He was a Titian at CSUF too. Highly recommended. Will get A in his class.
His way is better than the book way, i think he should write acct book . He is smart and nice. Ask him if you confused. His class for hard workers. You dont need to be super smart but need be a hard worker . Do all hw and his examples in class will be on the exam. Straighforward style, read the exams carefully and you will get A in his class.
Highly recommended, if you have a chance to take him from 201B, take it, and then 301A and 301B, this spring is the first semester he teaches 301B, His class is always full quickly. He is a smart and funny. His class always runs so fast. Must work hard to get A. Exam is bit tricky but not tough. His lectures are fun. Do all HW and examples.
The guy is very rude and doesn't help when you ask him for help. He just ignores you when you ask a question especially when you try to talk to him after class. I think that PHD went to his head because he over explains things to the point where it confuses you. Don't get me wrong, I'm passing with an A but that guy needs an attitude adjustment
His way of teaching is to over complicate something very simple using weird analogies that do not make sense. He really doesn't care for his students success or understanding. I've have better Accounting Professors however to get a B or higher is achievable in this class if you do yourself a favor and miss the class. Teach yourself, less confusing!
Lectures are easy to understand but a lot of the information for the tests you'll have to read in the book. Lots of material in this class, so be sure and do all the homework before class and all the review questions before the test. Almost all the information is there, just be diligent and do it beforehand.
Professor Lu will teach you how acct is . He is smart and nice , very straightfowad style. Do hw 3 times and do all practices in the class . Read before class. He is willing to help if you ask. Highly recommended. I took him 301A and 301B . He is my favorite one. If you want to learn how acct is , take him. His class is for hard worker. Thanks Pro.
Professor Lu makes ACCT more fun. He gives fun examples that will help you understand and memorize the lectures better. 3 tests, one final, one writing assignment. Just pay attention in class and do your homework, you'll be fine. His tests are quite challenging but doable. He's great, take him.
Professor Lu is a good teacher who can make hard accounting concepts easier. 3 tests, one final, one writing assignment. His tests are based on homework. 301B is not an easy class, and you have to work and study hard for it.
Prof. Lu is a great acct teacher that really makes an effort to teach students about the material and beyond. This class is very tough, you need to study and pay attention to pass. That said, Lu is the guy to take it with he will help you understand accounting on a deeper level. 3 midterms 1 Final and a writing assignment No BS. never used book
I would like to say thank you to Professor Lu. I took him 301A and 301B. The writing assingments in both classes helped me a lot in my internship. I spent almost 20 hours to read and write for each. It is worth it to do that . You never know how helpful all those assignments are until you face the real world . He is a great professor, take him.
I have taken Dr Lu for Acct 301A and 301B. He is a great professor. He has taught me alot and his grading structure and criteria is clear. Do the HW and you should do fine on the exams. I already miss Dr Lu's class but what he teaches you will stick with you throughout your career. Barely passed but I respect him for his straightforwardness.
He is fun and so smart. His example will make you understand lecs easily. I still remember about the Africa guy :) anytime I heard about Africa I recalled the Recouse lecture. He is super nice and everyone already said about the good things . You never regret if you take him. He inspired students to succeed. Thank you Professor. I appreciated it!
He is awesome! Take him and you would see why people said great things about him. Highly recommended.
Helpful nice person. If you study ACCT201AB well, you will be fine. If not, make sure you work hard and understand the HWs. His class is helpful. recommend.
2 exams, 1 individual writing assignment and a group presentation. Tests are based on homework just like his 301a class. All math based material (algebra only). He is fair and his class is fun just like his 301a class. I am a number person, so his 502 is my type.
Lu is the best accounting professor at CSUF. His lectures are helpful and he reviews the hw in class. DO THE HW! He pulls test questions straight from the hw and review problems so the tests aren't that bad if you study. His inspirational speeches are the best and so funny. He's a fun guy and makes a boring subject interesting.
Awesome professor! Teaches you more than just the textbook. Homework problems show up on the written portion of the exam. Pay attention, take notes, ask questions!! and you'll pass
Took this professor for both 201A & 201B and the best way to sum him up is that he could really care less. Take that however you want to. I cant speak for the other acct professors but his teaching methods are mediocre and class as well as the notes you take in class are pointless. READ THE BOOK AND STUDY BECAUSE HE HARDLY HELPS. Self taught class
Avoid taking him by any cost because he is not knowledgeable and unorganized. He doesn't want you to come to the office hours and not ask him any thing. He gives out some of the exam questions but he tests you on something else not what he gave you, when it comes to students he doesn't care at all. 95% of the class's grade midterms and final exam.
Nice professor and illustrate the idea through games in class.
Knowledgeable of his field, and tells great stories. Do the homework, attend lectures, and you should do fine. The written portion of the exam is based on homework problems (sometimes a very close copy with the numbers changed). I also read the book which helped me with his multiple choice questions.
Accounting is going to be difficult no matter the professor. His lectures are solid and his grading criteria is super clear. Study the homework as much as possible for each exam and you should be able to pass. He's blunt with his students so as long as you are not overly sensitive, he's a cool guy.
Best accounting professor you can take on campus. His lectures are interesting and broken down in a way that is easier to understand than the textbook. 50% of his exams are exactly like his HW. In order to get the MC portion, pay attention in class and read the textbook. The MC is hard, but you're fine as long as you can understand the concepts.
He knows his stuff and can break down the difficult topics clearly. Uses PPT, but will review problems on the board. Be ready to ask/answer questions occasionally. Uses HW problems for the free-response portion of the exam. As long as you do the HW multiple times and review the textbook, you'll pass the class. He can be direct, but he's a nice guy.
Wish I can give him 0 star! This professor is so awful! Will never take his course again.
Amazing professor. 301A is a challenging course, but he breaks down the material for students to understand. The class consists of 3 midterms, 1 cumulative final, and an individual project. His exams are similar to the homework he assigns. Don't just memorize it, you have to do it until you know the ins and out.
Please note: Accounting is hard. Dr. Lu gives only tests, no homework. There were 4 exams, not too hard. HOWEVER, I never went to class. Ever. I self-taught everything because he taught in a way that confused me. If you're cool with studying solo, you'll get an A or B in his class. He is good about meeting during office hours.
Prof. Hung Lu is great. his class is not required to do homework, but I will still recommend you do it. his class is not hard as long as you pay attention during the class and doing hw after the class.
I do not recommend this professor. He gives you writing problems for the exams while most professors only provide multiple choice. Also, other accounting classes have three exams while he gives out four exams.
not very helpful. rushes through lectures with horrible handwriting. asks 'any questions' a hundred times and doesn't wait for a response. comes off as condescending. wastes time telling personal stories. no points given for hw. gives 0 on working problems no partial credit given. don't take.
Prof. Lu is the best accounting professor. Exams are tougher than other professors', but all the problems are taken from the ungraded homework - verbatim. He cares about his students' success, gives lots of advice, and held extra office hours on weekends where he went over tricky problems- great CPA preparation. I can't recommend him enough!
Took his summer class. Was A LOT of information for 5 weeks. As long as you study the chapters and go over the ungraded hw problems he assigns, you should be fine. Majority exam problems are identical to hw problems. Definitely need to understand the information but you will succeed if you put in the work. He also curves. Overall decent professor.
Great class, great prof. Do the HW, participate in class and ask questions, and you'll pass fs. Every test is made up of HW problems (minus the final), so DO THE HW. Final grade is only 4 tests and a data project. Not an easy class, but if you put the work in and ask questions (esp. on HW), you'll learn a lot. Highly recommend taking this class
Dr. Lu is very direct and clear. You need to do the HWK, even though it's not graded. Your grade is tests + 1 essay. All the test questions are from the HWK. At first, he seems a bit intimidating, but he's funny and cares about his students. It's a hard course, be ready to put in the work. I mostly learned by reading, but his lectures were helpful.
absolutely terrible. stay away. impossible. rushes through lectures. Be ready to teach yourself. Says, "do the homework 5 times or you wont pass" rushes through lectures, gives free response questions with no partial credit. couldn't fit in material so spammed weekend office hours. condescending, does not care, claims tenure. stay away at all costs
Great lecterer and really funny; however, I hate that he forces us to read the textbook in order to do well on the MCQ questions. He takes the working problems from the hw though so in order to do good on that, do the hw (ungraded). Grades are based on 4 exams and 1 project. The final was difficult, so study hard. He curves though, around 5-10%
difficult class w/ a lot of time commitment. assigns a lot of homework for each chapter that are ungraded but he takes the hw problems and puts them as frq on exams. the mc section of exams aren't bad if you listened attentively to his lectures. there is a lot of material and he goes pretty fast. final was extremely difficult, but he curves
The exams are graded on MCQ's found from the textbook and the homework assigned. In order to do well in the class, make sure to do the homework assigned a million times and fully understand them because the written exam questions are randomly chosen homework questions word for word. Stern, but fair professor who gives a big curve at the end.
Took this online and it's difficult. Only graded on 3 exams. Homework was assigned but not graded, extremely important to do as many problems are used on the exams. During lectures, he will go through any homework problems and answer any question with great detail. He assumes if you have no questions then you understand the material, so always ask.
ACCT 201B is a hard course, but Dr. Lu teaches it well. Homework isn't graded, but quiz questions are taken from it. Lectures well. He's really sweet, helpful, and encouraging once you get past his serious nature. He wants to help you succeed. He taught me a lot, and I highly recommend you take his class. Just be ready to put in the work.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Professor does not prepare you for exams and adjusts syllabus homework last minute before exams. He DOES NOT curve enough to pass. Wasted potential on wrong professor. TAKE ANOTHER PROFESSOR
If you are looking to being overworked just so he can curve .02%, then take him. Other than that please avoid this class. I would not recommend it. Studied so much for nothing. He does not reply to inquiries about accommodations for disability either.
The exams are based on doing the HW several times. HW is not graded. He also goes very quickly through content. Sometimes 1 lecture per chapter. He curves a decent amount every exam (5-10 points). There's also a writing project to help boost the grade, but it seems unnecessary. I got a B+ but he curved the final grade to an A-.
I took him for both 301A & B. He curved a lot less for 301B than 301A, even though the content is more difficult. HW and attendance aren't required. He records his lectures so you can miss them and still catch up. Class is very exam heavy. There's also a writing project at the end of the semester. For final grade, I got an A- but it curved to an A
I previously took this class with professor Farzana. I was able to understand the material more with professor Hung Lu. I'm taking this class for summer and it is based on 4 exams only. Attendance is not mandatory he records his lectures. You will learn about LIFO,FIFO, Journal Entries, Adjusting entries (Interest,Prepaid,Depreciation), and TVM.
Very straightforward professor. Reasonable expectations and explains expectations thoroughly. He doesn't overcomplicate accounting concepts, making them easier to understand. He's always open to questions and wants to help you learn. I highly recommend taking him, especially for upper-division accounting. One cheat sheet allowed for all exams.
