This teacher is by far the best English teacher at Brookhaven. Burton is on the same level with his students. He is also cool and his topics are intelligent. He comes highly recommended on campus.

He gives the students a different way of looking at writing. Fairly easy class, if you give him what he wants. Mr. Burton is hilarious and doesn't care what anyone thinks of him. Great teacher!

He expects the best from every student. Unlike most teachers, he grades you on your OWN progress. He does NOT pick the best writer, and measure everyone else up. For robotic students who need to be told in outline what to do...and what is expected...find another teacher. I loved this Class!

Class is relevant to the real world. Group projects are challenging due to personalities, but the projects require right and left brain thinkers so everyone gets to participate. Sarcasm and b.s. detector keeps the class on edge but students are drawn to his humor and progressive thinking. I wish I would have taken 1301 from him.

Great class! The assignments are relative and get you thinking about things you might not pay much attention to. It's not easy, but if you do your best work you should do well. Class was always fun for me and I looked forward to it. He's a real character.

I liked Mr. Burton as an English professor. From all the english teachers I had throughout the years, he was one of the memorable ones. I like the class and activities he had provided. He makes the class interesting. Now that I'm gone, I still remember everything we did. BLAH!!!! But he's a cool cat!

He's an easy teacher if you do your work he exspects alot out of his students. He doesnt give you busy he's finishing up his masters too, so he know how it gets. i would recondmend him to anyone

Mr. Burton is a great English professor! He is such a funny and sweet man. He understands when you cannnot make class as long as you have a good reason. He actually keeps you awake in class with his funny jokes. He does not give out stupid assignments. You will leave his class a better writer and critical thinker.

Great teacher, he is not too hard, but is by no means easy. Show up to class, or uh, your going to fail or drop. I learned more in his class than any english class I have ever taken. Don't buy the book, you will not need it. Oh and ask questions.

Hurshel is the type of teacher who will not be afraid to take you out of your comfort and provoke you to think outside the box. He is an open minded catalyst, inspiring our eyes to see the big picture and be more educated, aware individuals. I admire his teaching approach, and think he is one of the best teachers around.

I've taken this class Summer 2004, he's awesome teacher. Very very very HELPFUL, and make you a good writer tooo. Essay and Group work are great way, it's just that you need to be ready to write some essay that's all. but the class is 100% EASY....!!!!!!

One of the best teachers I've ever had. If you are looking for an easy A don't take this class, If you want to learn and actually earn a good grade, this is the teacher for you. I loved that his way of teaching is nothing I've ever seen before.

Burton gives you a rubric for everything, if you need ANY help, he always answers his cell and quickly responds to emails. He's happy to answer any questions. On some project he may only give you a small amount of time, but it's possible to finish. He's a pretty easy teacher and tells you exactly what he expects of you. No book required.

I liked Burton, he sees things from a students point of view. He responds to emails and answers his phone. when he gives you a rebric thats what he wants in the paper, don't make it harder than it is. Everythings basically free writing as long as you have what he requires in his papers. His class overall was fun and easy.

Burton's class is a JOKE! I had him during Maymester and the first hour+ of each class we did either Tai Chi or Yoga. We learned NOTHING. He has favorite students...so suck up to him and you will get an easy A. He is lazy and does not grade papers -he justs asks the students what grade he thinks they should receive-very liberal and has a HUGE ego!

Great professor. Assignments are somewhat complicated but there doable. He expects the best from you and if you give your best then this should be an easy A. But you have to work for that A.

I liked him. If he saw you trying and you showed for class, he was fair. I did not enjoy the door locking thing but I understand his tactics for doing it, however we all are adults. I also think he should lead by example with the punctuality thing. Overall I liked him OK! I would take him again.

Unusual professor. No text book required. Expects you to show up for class and work hard. Overall easy grader as long as he saw you put forth a good effort. He requires a lot of work for his projects, and is usually late for his class.

The only reason a student would have trouble in one of Burton's classes is if they are unable to think outside the box- he's unconventional. I took him for 1301 and had to wait for 3 semesters to be able to get into his 1302 class. (His classes fill up REALLY fast) He's my favorite teacher and there was no way I was taking anyone but him for 1302.

I took him online and he doesn't teach with a text book. that's good bcuz you won't have to spend the money. he is helpful and the assignments aren't difficult. do the work and you will get the grade you deserve. he explains what he want you to do.

I hate writing, and art. So far at midterm I have an A. And have discovered a lot about my style in learning. He makes you think and can be very intimidating and hard. If you show up everyday and do the work, there's no reason you won't get an A. Hopefully you will be like me and discover somethings about yourself. I recommend him to anyone.

I absolutely love Mr. Burton. He is without a doubt the best professor I've ever had. His assignments are sometimes complicated but he gives you a very detailed layout of your assignment that is easy to follow. I would totally recommend him if you like getting A's.

I hated writing, but after his class I do enjoy it. He is very unconventional. He says it himself he is a hardass. Papers are tough and he can be very picky and precise. But if you show up, do what he asks, you will have no problem getting an A. I had 1301 with another prof and made a B. So far I have made A's on everything. Absolutely Great Class.

Awesome professor! Can't go wrong with this choice. Took him online for Summer English course and got an A. There were 2 essays, one of which is a group research collaboration, one poem, and an overall group PowerPoint final. Yeah only 4 grades plus participation. He is understanding and responds to calls/texts promptly. Can it get any easier?

I took him online summer 2 & keep in mind I have not been in school since 1998! I made an A even W/making a 70% on my MIDTERM PAPER! Only 4 grades 2 being papers & 2 group. You have to put thought, work & time into your papers & you will get an A! Also lets u turn in extra credit work! TAKE THIS CLASS! CAN'T GET BETTER THAN BURTON! WON'T REGRET IT!

I had Professor Burton for English 1301 & 1302 and I absolutely enjoyed the class. He's very interesting & really fun. The assignments are easy & if you do what's asked, you will get a good grade. Plus, he's all green so he doesn't require a text book!

The professor teaches in an odd way, which is refreshing. The class is fun, professional, and challenging. To enjoy this class all one has to do is be self starting and fallow some minor writing structures.Just work a little bit every day. Don't mistake the expressive freedom given for vagueness. Also, no textbook needed!

Best thing about his class is that he is funny and doesn't have lectures. in order to get an A you need to be able to Communicate with your group members very well and follow his simple rules on the 2 or 3 essays during this course. I recommend it for kids that just graduated HS or Students who just got out of ESL.

If you are looking for an inspirational professor, and one that will push you to be a better you, he's the one for you. I had him last year for ENGL 1301, and have been waiting for 1302 specifically with him. He's not an easy professor, but he does't ask for anything unrealistic.

Inspiring professor. His assignments are definitely out of the ordinary and unlike regular 1301 classes. If you attend class, you will pass. It is quite hard to fail unless you have no work ethic. Assignment maybe unclear IF you don't make it to class. No textbook needed.

Coming out of high school i would normally receive a C, but i came out of DR Burton class with a 98 he's a great teacher he actually teach you real live situation not just your standard english but you will have to participate in class there are 2 EASY papers and 2 EASY group projects i highly recommend

Dr. Burton is the best professor. His class is really fun and amazing. His lecture was very helpful and informative. I learned a lot from him. I used to hate writing essay, but his homework essay was even interesting!! Attendance is not mandatory but you will miss important points and tips if you miss class. You should take his class!!

I took this course online and at first I was very nervous about his approach. However, it quickly proved to an excellent class. No books required; he pulls his material from elsewhere. He gets you to think outside the box with his assignments. Group projects, but if one member doesn't pull their weight he doesn't take it out on the whole group.

Energetic and intelligent but cocky and condescending, Prof. Burton takes some getting used to. Be prepared to learn a lot about art, but very little about English. Many of the projects assigned leave you to discover how to do things like create a Prezi presentation or upload videos to Youtube on your own. Communication is essential.

Dr. Burton was an amazing teacher. I took 1301 online during a summer 2 session and had a great time. He expects you to put in work and effort. The assignments are relatively easy if you put the time into it. Dr. Burton replies to emails quickly. Group assignments are easy even if your team doesn't participate. Do the work, get the grade. Be prepared to participate, discuss, and ASK QUESTIONS if you have any. If you're not sociable enough to speak out for yourself, this course will turn you to that habit. Good lessons on life skills, not just English or humanities. Be prepared EACH AND EVERY CLASS. Attendance is a KEY factor in your success in either of his English courses.

He is awesome. I took his ENGL 1302, and there is only one long paper. Others are the team project and short paper. He gives the clear steps to show how to write the paper. If you follow what he said, you will get a easy A.

Dr. Burton is not intimidating. He just wants students to get out of their comfort zones and explore what abilities they have and be ready for every opportunity. However, do not play with him, he hates dumb people and he is witty, he will make fun of you if by any chance you act as if you are one. Listen and follow directions as specified.

Dr. Burton is very arrogant but I wouldn't pay much mind because it's a very easy class. It's just a bunch of prezi style presentation. I should emphasize I took him over the summer so I'm not sure if it's different during other times. His attitude is terrible but if you can deal with that, I recommend this class since it's very easy.

Really amazing at his simple and casual style of teaching! I would definitely recommend Burton to anyone fresh from high school or has anxiety in meeting other people. You basically get free new friends from the group projects! Attendance was shortened to just 1 day a week, but it became mandatory to be on those days or else you will miss info.

Dr. Burton was one of the best English professors I have ever had. His group projects were easy to understand and responded really quick whenever my group had questions. Very easy and simple class, and will totally recommend him.

I took both Comp I & Comp II with Dr. Burton. Pay attention to details in his instructions and interact with him if you're online. His projects are interesting and challenging. I really enjoyed both semesters with him.

He encourages is to still have hobbies outside of class and he gives you projects that allow you to do both while also being part of a group to learn how to communicate. He gives a good amount of work and more than enough time to complete them. I especially liked the samples he provided so we knew what he wanted our projects to look like.

You won't study English in this course, but patience. The most difficult part is to understand his instruction email which will be fully written in upper case, bold, underline and italics at the same time. If you pass this step, you will be alright.

Online its a great class. Some of the information for the Projects could be more clear. The 2 Group Project sucks because you don't pick the group and most of the people just gosht you. He is not good at providing feedback on the grading. I recommend you send him whatever you will turn in beforehand to be able to improve based on his feedback.

I took this as a 8-week class starting in August. Participation and involvement matters in this class and will be taken greatly. He states that one must text message him instead of E-Mail, so beware of that. Overall, he is very strong opinionated and has good life advice. There are 3 assignments, and 2 of them are group assignments. Great class!

GREATT professor, if you can take him, I suggest doing so. He makes class very fun and easy, only gives 4-5 assignments throughout the whole semester, and no essays or exams in between, and no final either. He gives you a long time to complete you assignment, and cancels class so you can work on it. He also answers pretty quick.

This class was incredibly easy. The first project in the class was just a presentation, and the following two projects were done with a group, which were two videos. All you have to do is follow the directions, and you will be successful in this course.

Cool professor, usually responds quickly, Decend grader had like 5 assignments over the 16-week course, 2 were a group and all the assignments is related like the 1st is related to the 5th, the 2nd is associated with the 3rd, and the last assignment he makes you do a montage. he has just one extra credit which would give you only 5 points

This course takes a non-traditional approach. Dr. Hurshel's assignments allow you to tap into your creativity and tech skills. What truly sets him apart is his responsiveness - he answers questions promptly. While some professors may take days or never reply, Dr. Hurshel is on top of communication. I recommend this class 100%

OKAY. Dr Burton is my favorite professor that I've ever had. I took both ENGL1301 and 1302 with him in-person. I think he is passionate about what he does. That said, approach with caution. He is sarcastic and condescending. Will single you out. Lots of random class cancellations. Will democratically decide grades on certain assgns. Love him tho

He usually leaves a lot of projects that may seem difficult at first, but in reality, they are quite easy. He gives you time to complete these projects. If you carefully read the rubrics, you should do well. Avoid using AI for your work, as it will give you a ZERO if you do. Also, be prepared to work in groups, as there are two group projects.
