TAKE HIM. Professor Ian is so nice and helpful. He is very humorous toward the class and gives us treats during a quiz.
Great teacher
Dr. Curran is the best!!! The quizzes are super easy if you read! The tests are super easy if you go to class, listen, and study. He tells you what the essay questions are going to be so you can study them. He's hilarious and has a great personality. Take him! Easy and fun class!
If you have to take a religions class i would say that this teacher. The class is super easy if you come to class and take notes and study. the test are super easy and he tells you the essay questions on the test. he's very helpful and understanding. over all GREAT TEACHER.
His schedule is pretty set. you read one chapter and take a super easy quiz on the material every Tuesday. You do have 3 essays to write, but they're not like English essays. They're fairly easy. you definitely need a textbook, 2 actually. I would recommend him to anyone because he is a super cool, funny person and a very lenient professor overall.
Curran is a great teacher. Very outgoing and nice to get along with. You have at least 3 short essays and a final essay, plus final exam. They're fairly easy and he doesn't grade hard. There were no tests, just quizzes and the essays. You'd read a few chapters each week then the next week you'll take a quiz in class. Class was enjoyable!
Dr. Curran is a wonderful professor. He is not biased, which is important in a class about religion. He gives a quiz every single week based on the textbook, but if you take notes on what you read, then he gives you extra credit. There are no tests. You are required to read a few books and write essays on the religious themes in them. Great class.
He is one of the best World Religions teacher. He is very clear and is very understanding. You will read a lot but you can always read ahead of time and make sure to take notes on your reading (Extra Credit).
I wasn't really into this class to begin with, but he didn't make it any better for me. There are three different books to read that he gives quizzes on at the beginning of each week, then continues to teach what we should've learned from the reading. Two papers, no midterm and a final exam. He tends to go off on tangents a lot, too.
This course requires a lot of reading that you have to do because there is a quiz at the beginning of each week on this reading. The class for the rest of the week is based on the reading you have to do for each week. I thought this would be an easy A coming in, but it has been quite challenging. Curran is very enjoyable however.
Great Professor
Definitely a great professor but get ready to READ.
He is AMAZING. LOVED HIS CLASS AND WOULD DEFINITELY TAKE AGAIN. he loves star wars and relates it to the religions we learn about
If you are a Star Wars fan this class is for you. Two essays relating star wars to religion. Quizzes every week on the reading assignments. He gives extra points for taking detailed notes on the readings and adds them to the weekly quiz grade. Lectures are interesting. I learned a lot from his class.
Very passionate about what he does. Reading is mandatory but the assigned readings are always interesting and easy to understand. Gives extra credit for notes taken on the reading. Lectures are great and easy to keep up with.
He's a really amazing professor! He's really passionate about Religion and even though I'm not a big fan of religion, it was cool to learn about different cultures. You do need the textbook, you have 12 quizzes (he drops 2) which are questions based on the book and sometimes the star war movies. He does give extra credit sometimes.
Very nice professor. He's kinda nerdy in a cute way and he is so passionate about the material. A lot of reading and quizzes but he drops two. There's an oral presentation and a final paper(5-7) pages. You get 10 bonus points on the quizzes if you take notes on the reading.
This was a fun and easy class for me. One quiz a week based on reading that you can do the night before and make a good grade. Extra credit if you take at least 2 pages of notes, I do it while I read. One easy presentation and a 5 page paper instead of final. No tests. The only pain is that there were lots of extra readings to do before the quizzes
Professor Curran is a pretty dope teacher. His class is relatively easy as long as you read the books given. Quizes are multiple choice (10 questions) and come from the powerpoint and books. You have a week to read, so there's no excuse to not. He's laid back and I find him funny. Without a doubt, and easy A. Quizzes matter the most!
Prof Curran assigned us short quizzes throughout the semester instead of giving us big tests. There is a A LOT of reading. He is a big star wars fan. There are some star wars related assignments also. Not my first choice (considering that I don't like long reading assignments or star wars) but if you do the assignments you can get an A regardless.
Dr. Curran is an excellent professor. I took his religion class and had no problem with it at all. There are a few books you'll have to get for the class, but no real "textbook". Participation is a grade, but you can still pass without it. As long as you keep up with the material, read, and are there for quizzes, the class is easy.
Let's be honest, religion is supposed be a joke- an easy A- but this guy didn't get the memo. You read 4 chapter books, have 2 essays (3 pages long), 12 10 question quizzes (drops 2) +10 if you take notes, 2 field trips (Mosque & Temple), & final. It's not hard, I still got an A but I definitely think you do too much work for just an intro course.
He enjoys what he does and wants others to feel the same. Quizzes every Monday. He tries to be funny but he just isn't. He uses power point and is good about putting them online.
Dr. C is an amazing professor ! Although he gives a quiz every monday , he gives you exactly what will be on it and some hint questions that are on the quiz ... only 10 questions and takes 10 minutes or less. He brings candy ! He will do anything he can to help as well just participate
We have a quiz every week based off of the readings that we have to do. At least skim and look up the answers to the study guide so that you can have notes and get extra credit. You can get an A in the class as long as you try and turn things in on time. The papers weigh a lot and if you get a C and then an A on everything else you can get a low A.
I hated his class due to the fact that I had to relate star wars to religion when I hate star wars and cannot understand it. He said he changed the star wars teachings to something else for the other semesters, but all in all he was a great professor. He cares about his students and has a funny personality. He allowed us to have open beliefs.
I had him twice a week for T&R classes. He's a good professor. There's a lot of reading but he list the pages that you need to read. Weekly quizzes. He provides a study guide for every quiz. We took two field trips on the weekend. If you can't make it, you have to write a paper. Two major papers over the readings.
Best religion professor! He's so funny, and we do a bunch of fun activities like yoga and meditation. There's one presentation and a few papers at the end of the semester. There are only quizzes, which are easy multiple choice with extra credit, a midterm, and a final exam which is all short answer and essays. He also grades very leniently.
Dr. Curran is an amazing professor, and you can tell he's passionate about what he teaches. He does a really good job at covering such a wide range of information in one class, so if you're interested in learning more about religion, I highly recommend taking his class.
Dr. Curran is an amazing teacher. He is passionate about what he teaches and he's really nice and easy going. He does give quizzes every Monday but he gives a study guide for each quiz, so as long as you study based on that you should be fine.
An intro course but teaches it like a course thats a major.
Dr. Curran was one of the best professors Ive had so far. He is so fun, he knows how to keep a class from getting bored. He helps you out when you need it. Would recommend taking again 10/10
He was super chill and I really liked his lectures. There was a lot of reading but it wasnt that bad and it made the quizzes easier. Would totally take again
Do not take if you aren't ready for a lot of work. He's honestly a good professor, very funny, and really kind. However, there is a lot of reading involved. Sometimes his quizzes contain something he said during class so make sure you are there and paying attention. That being said, it's not hard to get an A in his class if you put in the work.
Honestly one of my favorite professors that Ive had at GGC. I really liked his class. He was super chill, funny, and a good lecturer. Sure, there was lots of work, but it wasnt overwhelming. A quiz every Monday, 2 papers, and a final. And he gives in-depth study guides for each quiz and then for the final. Gives bonus points for notes.
Mr Ivan teaches his class okay, but this is a 1101 class, and goes into to much info for the time that we had. The final was asking too information for how much time was spent on the subject
Professor Curran clearly enjoys teaching this level 1 course. However, he gives A LOT of reading and videos of which you are tested on Monday mornings. He incorporates a lot of extra curricular, making the class interesting. NIce guy, but needs to be more organized and teach to his final exam which is ridiculously different from the easy quizzes
Difficult
Take him for World Religions! He covers a lot but It's an easy class if you do the reading and come to class. Really nice guy too.
Great professor. I thought religion would be boring but he makes it interesting.
I took Dr. Curran's class semester and it was fun and interesting. We did yoga and went on field trips. Not difficult at all.
You do a lot of reading & A lot of lectures ofc, but he wasnt as bad as I thought. Hes very nice & quizzes are very easy if you read .
Not a fan. I had to move home because of the coronavirus, which was out of state. It was hard to get a laptop right away. I missed a quiz, he didnt allow me to make it up or anything. He very very rude. Pretty unprofessional at times. Takes forever to grade. FOREVER. I do not recommend.
Online classes are a nightmare, but he bends over backwards to help you out. Great professor!
He's a chill teacher. HEAVY READING!!! You will be reading weekly from multiple books. Then you are quizzed before he actually teaches you the material. His grading is prety easy, show up, take notes, do the howework, you will pass.
Great professor! Great class!
This class was very enjoyable.
He's very enthusiastic and makes the class enjoyable. Definitely worth taking.
He is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic in his lectures. The majority of the grades are quizzes that are based on the lectures and reading, which are essential to passing this class! Some of it seems tedious but as long as you put in the effort you are guaranteed a good grade!
World Religions with Dr. Curran is an amazing class! There are weekly quizzes, midterm, final and class presentation. He is an awesome professor who cares about his students and wants them to succeed.
For the love of gods please do not take his class. If I could I would rate him a -5.
this is the worst professor I've taken at GGC. he gave us the midterm the last day to withdraw and it was HARD. yes, he gave a study guide but the study guide is so vague. and the test was nothing like our study guide. do yourself a favor and don't take this man unless you want to over-stress a class you shouldn't have to.
Get ready to be stressed out for a class that you shouldn't be stressing out for.
Don't take his class if you want to take quizzes for your grade. Terrible at posting work on time, takes forever to grade and takes a beginning core class too seriously.
weekly quizzes with vague study guides, lockdown with camera on for everything. Long lectures, expects you to watch a 2 hour film every other week, & has no remorse if you woke up late for a quiz. only way to get an A is to watch all hour long lectures, read the book & study. if you study youll get an A, if not honestly a low B max
He is very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. It is a TON of information to take in. Even though I studied all week, I often felt as if I was cramming bc there is just so much. Only grades came from short quizzes which was tough. I enjoyed this class. The most interesting that I've taken so far, would take in a less busy semester.
Takes some getting used to but overall not bad of a teacher at all. 10 quizzes every Friday. About 6 discussion boards. 2 major tests: midterm & final. Student presentation at end of semester. Makes study guides for quizzes and tests. 2 required books (really cheap @ bookstore). Be prepared to read! Not too harsh on grading. Loves to teach religion
Dr. Curran is a great professor, but if you do not show up to class you will most likely fail. Plan on reading about 20-40 pages a week, plus a quiz EVERY FRIDAY. If you do not read or pay attention you will fail because his quizzes are SPECIFIC. Overall, besides a large amount of quick memorization of info, Curran is a great professor.
Best professor ever! I cant recommend him enough! Ive had him twice, and he gets better each time! He is so passionate about what he teaches that you cant help but love the class! He did have a great deal of reading, but nothing overwhelming. He always emailed me back, and was always there if we needed him! Super caring, and funny! Take him!
BEWARE of this professor. Although he's very enthusiastic he's not a good teacher He has weekly quizzes, lots of reading, and discussion posts, a midterm, a final, and a presentation. He does not give any makeup work and is not empathetic at all. So not much room for grade improvement. Do yourself a favor and save your GPA by not taking this class
Took this professor Spring 2021. Was one of the worst professors I've ever had. Every class he would make you turn on your camera or you were marked as absent. Long lecture videos did not help at all and made quizzes hard and very specific, so if you messed up you're done for. This class will ruin your GPA trust me. HE DOES NOT CARE.
I did a directed study with Dr. Curran over the summer (third time being his student and I honestly cant recommend him enough. I can tell he is passionate about what he teaches, which makes the subject enjoyable. Yes, you will read, write, and take quizzes, but as long as you do the work and the reading, you will pass just fine! TAKE HIM!
Class was pretty easy. Reviews every lecture before taking the quiz which is basically the same as the quiz. But you have to attend class for that. Learning about Islam did not feel like it was taught from a western perspective rather every single detail was taught from a western perspective rather every single detail was taught fairly.
Super easy and fun class! He gives quizzes, which he tells you everything that's going to be on them, journal, no final exam. Take him!
Because of Covid, he encouraged us to take classes online rather than in person. He uploaded lectures every week. But I had a hard time because of quizzes every Thursday. It was not that difficult, but it's had a pretty bad effect on my score. It's not easy to write the essays. We write essays during the midterm and final exams.
Very long and dreadful lectures, make them easier by setting them to 2x speed. Weekly quizzes and a couple of journal entries. You can't breeze through this class but you can skim everything and get an ok grade. Quizzes are based on random bits of information from lectures and textbook.
I really enjoyed Dr. Ian Curran's class! He is a lovely man who is unbias and really into his subject of teaching. In his class, I expanded my horizons and understanding of many religions and even the public perception of them. He has lectures (never an hour long), readings, quizzes, and essays. But the work is never very hard or too overwhelming.
Just fill up the notes and read carefully, and study the same notes you did in order to pass the quiz or test.
I took this professor online. He gives weekly quizzes but they are not too hard if you just follow the study guide. No midterm or final exam just a journal where you write about your own spirituality. He gives great recorded lectures. Very nice and funny too.
The assignments for this class consist of weekly quizzes, discussion posts, and a journal that you must work on throughout the semester. Every week you are given the opportunity to meet online with the professor if you need help with the class. Additionally, he sends an email every week informing students what will be on the quizzes.
Such a great teacher! I love the way he teaches and never puts a huge load of homework on you. He cares and gives second chances, hilarious, and overall interactive. Professor Curran made me want to learn and I always looked forward to his class. I recommend his class to everyone!
One of my favorite professors to work with. In fact, I am working with him again this semester and will potentially work with him again after this. He does assign a lot of reading, but most of it is very interesting and informative. Watch his lectures! They are also pretty interesting and he really goes in depth about the material.
Really great professor overall. Very knowledgeable about religion and ethics and is really good at communicating his knowledge to his students.
i had this professor for m,w,f for wrld relgon and all we really did was read. he was such a kind professor. we had quizzes every week and he gave 2 extra bonus questions for each quiz . The quizes were very easy. he didnt give out hw except to do the readings in order to prepare u for the quiz. He even went over the answers after. totally recommed
Professor Ian is great! He does'nt lecture in class so those are online . He keeps everything organized so its easily accessible . Most times in class we spend reading chapters in our textbook ( you can find textbook online ) and studying for quizzes . We take quizzes every week that are super easy ! Take Professor Ian! : )
He's super chill. We didn't have a final in the class, it was only weekly quizzes that he provided the study guide for. The quizzes had easy bonus questions and he drops your lowest three scores. Definitely a fun and easy class and the environment is open and friendly to speaking your opinion.
Amazing professor, short 10-question quizzes every Thursday, no test, extra credit! READ and watch the posted lectures and you will do great. 1 group project and short journals over the course of the semester. 100% would take again
He is very easygoing and while you have to watch the lecture on your own he will answer any questions and goes over the book in class. There are no tests and the final was an easy project.
Very easy class like others said but we do a class discussion a few times and if you disagree with his ideology, he acts like you're stupid and disagrees with you when this is meant to be a stress-free no correct answers type of thing. always adding specific questions back at me that nobody else had when answering because they agreed with him.
Dr. Curran is a great professor overall. He posts weekly lectures and readings that tie into the weekly quizzes/discussions. The lectures and readings got you ready for the quizzes/discussions. So just do the readings and watch the lectures! I left this class with a larger appreciation for religions and thank Dr. Curran for his impact.
For an online class I learned a lot. You'll have weekly lectures along with a proctored quiz and discussion which can overwhelm sometimes but they are easy if you do the reading and lectures. Dr.Curran also held 2 class field trips for extra credit and I participated in both which were awesome. He makes this class fun and eficient.
I took his class fully online fall 24 and he gives the same schedule every week so it is easy to keep up with assignments and quizzes. His lectures are informational and easy to take notes. He is really nice and funny, also easy to communicate with and there were 2 "field trip" opportunities for extra credit.
Best class I have had in college thus far. Lots of lecture videos and weekly quizzes, but he uses fun active learning methods like videos, field trips (4 of them), and group discussions. There's one huge journal assignment, which acts as the final exam, but you have the whole semester to complete it. Very fair and kind professor. Highly recommend!
Good professor, easy class. Weekly quizzes, a group project, and a course project.
Weekly quizzes, a group project, and a course project. Easy class without a huge workload. Dr. Curran utilized a reverse classroom teaching style which I didn't enjoy much but he did give some lectures which I found enjoyable. I would take his class again if I needed to.
He has a schedule and sticks to it ( you'll always know what's due). His test are fun and easy as long as you pay attention. He's also very nice!
