The class was very good and help in understanding the strategic HRM approach. It would be helpful to tie the module to current event in weekly or monthly periodicals. The class on-line interaction were good too.

I enjoyed the class, particularly the section on employee motivation. Topics were relevant and interesting overall. Sometimes discussions among students went off on tangents, but it's good to hear others' perspectives. I believe the instructor had high expectations for course work, but I see that as appropriate to upper-level coursework.

He is an excellent teacher who offers great feedback (very constructive). His expectations are clear and reasonable.

His assignments are clear and interesting. When he grades he explains why you received he grade and comments on how you can approve the next assignment.

i took him for online strategic human resource management, i go to another SUNY school and i just needed this class to transfer in. i had no idea about the subject going in and he did a great job with the discussions and communicating with us. i would take him again!

Prof. is very knowledgeable and fair. Class is hard and involved. Grades papers only. Corsework: read textbook, 4-case studies, tests, 5-discussions and 20-page term paper. Not easy, but you learn alot.

Tons of work! I averaged at least 15 hours a week with this class, but I did learn a lot. Ian was very clear with his assignments and his expectations. He always responded promptly to any questions, which is rare at Empire online. Overall, I'd give him a 4 out of 5.

This class is a lot of work but managable. Spread over 5 modules - Case studies, big research paper at the end, practice tests, discussions, and there is a team debate. He is a great professor, answers questions quickly, tough on the grading but fair. You will learn a lot in this course but be ready to work hard. I would recommend Ian!

Helpful course to get acquainted with HRM. Adequately challenging. Case studies well chosen. Book material is tested indirectly (no mandatory tests/quizzes) but through other assignments. In BME213504, Human Resource Management, Prof. Ian Jacobs was helpful and his discussion topics kept the class interesting and fun. As with any online course, there is a lot of paperwork required, but Jacobs was very understanding and provided great input. I had a great time in this class.

Professor Jacobs was always professional, on topic, and highly involved in giving us feedback on our participation. He always made himself available if and when needed. A+

Professor was always helpful if I needed the help. I loved the format of Human Resource Management, the only thing that confused me was the modules and final research paper and draft were in two areas under the "Grades" area and it confused me. Besides that I loved this class and the final research paper was great. I wrote my little heart out.

This professor provided great feedback. Discussions were graded a bit harsh but overall a very interesting course.

Nice teacher. Gives plenty of feedback on your assignments. Breaks major assignments (term paper) up into sections so you can get feedback on one section before going on to the next. Does have some group assignments but they are hard because you don't even know who and how many students are in your group. Great teacher that I would take again.

Prof Jacobs was fair but expected you to do your part and deliver as per the class schedule. He always offered help and responded when I asked for his advise.

Online courses can be difficult to have discussions in as many times the students simply don't respond. Professor Jacobs kept the class moving forward. He was very attentive, made informative remarks in the discussions as well as the written assignments. You were made aware if you needed to do more as he would raise questions that made you think.

Hands down the most involved instructor I've had at ESC. He had surgery during the semester & still managed to get things graded with ample feedback much faster than my other 2 courses! He wants you to do well. Just do the work and you'll be successful. I would take any class he teaches.

A lot of reading and writing. Final paper is a big project with a lot of writing. Grades papers quickly and gives a lot of feedback and clear guidelines, more than most. I would take another one of his classes.

This was my first online class so I do not have a point of reference. With that said, I feel Professor could have been involved more. The learning contract was very specific and the grading structure was clear. I gained a lot of knowledge with all writing assignments with the exception of a group project.

I really enjoyed this class. Professor Jacobs was incredibly helpful, and participated in discussions and gave feedback more than my other professors. When I forgot to submit an assignment he e-mailed me to let me know, and gave me an opportunity to make up the work. If you are willing to do the work, he will help you as much as he can!

He truly cares about his students. With an online instructor it sometimes feels disconnected, not the case with Mr J. This was one of my favorite online classes at ESC. I appreciated the frequent emails as it helped me to stay focused on pace to finish each module timely. He has a great grasp on his subject and I learned a lot this term.

I would definitely take another class if offered by him. He holds students accountable and is heavy on participation which is a good thing.

Great teacher who provides great feedback for all work. Allows ample time to complete assignments, discussions and all other graded material. Beware there is a 12-15 page research paper at the closing of the course! Other than that the discussions were interactive in which he participated in moving along the class to see other perspectives!

Fast grader. Always there to answer questions and provide feedback. There's a paper due at the end of the course, nothing out of the norm. You can chose the topic of your choice regarding Human Resource.

I felt as though he actually cared about the substance that was provided by the students

There was quite a bit of writing for this course as each module required a paper. APA format is stressed. The professor jumps into discussion areas regularly and is completely engaged with the class. Thought provoking and recommended to have him as professor.

I really enjoyed having professor Jacobs for my teacher. He communicated extremely well and sent our regular announcements to keep us informed and motivated. Professor Jacobs is caring, available, responds and grades quickly, give clear expectations and is a fair grader. Do you work and your grade will reflect accordingly. There are 2 group projects and a final 12-15 page paper that he allows you to choose the topic for. I would take his class again and I do highly recommend him.

Professor Jacobs is probably the best professor I've had at ESC. The reading wasn't too crazy but textbook was used every module. Participating matters but he is clear about expectations and gives great feedback if you missed the mark. He is understanding about life outside of class (for those with kids, etc). Easy to reach via email.

Great Professor, class is very interesting, only bad part is the two group assignments. The course in general was very helpful, the assignments weren't too much, plenty of time to complete anything and everything, super relaxed with grading.

Professor Jacobs made his expectations very clear from the start. He sent announcements at the start of every module and was very accessible throughout the course. He graded fairly but you have to work for your grade. He graded assignments in a timely manner and I would definitely take another course he was teaching.

For online course, alot of reading but this is typical. Grades quickly and gives excellent feedback on assignments. Make an effort to do the work and you will do well.

I took Staffing the Org. in Spring 19. Would recommend! The topics learned were very interesting. Decent workload. There were two group projects and a large term project. Professors Jacobs was flexible and understanding with me when I was behind. If you are behind, tell him! He allowed me an extension a few times which I greatly appreciated!

Ian Jacobs is the best instructor I have had for an online class at Empire State College. He provides continuous timely feedback that is helpful and motivational. I hate the discussion piece of online classes but his topics for discussions had context you could respond to in multiple ways. Responses were varied and interesting.

(2019SP1-HRMS-3015-01) Human Resource Management - Professor Jacobs provided exceptional resources, information, and input throughout the course study. He was active on the discussion boards and sent emails to remind students of deadlines and to motivate the class. An absolutely wonderful experience. Thank you, Professor Jacobs!

Overall, hes a very willing professor, he gives you many chances to have something specified if you have questions. His notes and links are actually super interesting (my favorite was How great leaders inspire action by Simon Sinek!) He's a fair grader as long as you participate in the discussions. First time doing an 8 week course, Loved this one

Professor Jacobs is a great teacher. He encourages participation from the class to really get different perspectives on topics. The coursework is challenging, but nothing that is unbearable. He gives great feedback and as long as you communicate with him about issues for doing assignments, he is fair and will work with you. Great teacher!

Professor Jacobs was the best! I wish he could teach all of my classes. He gives great feedback and has interesting things to say. There was 5 modules with a discussion and writing portion in each and 2 group projects. There is a term paper due at the end of the semester. There are no surprises and you know what is expected of you.

Not sure I selected the right course code, but as far a HRMS-3015-01 is concerned, the class very informative. Ian was on time with grades after every module so you could track your progress, he was also very responsive in providing answers to questions and keeping the class on track. I thoroughly enjoy his class and the outline of the course.

The Human Resource Management online course was a great course. Participation and discussions are necessary, but that is usually the case for online courses. Professor Ian Jacobs does a great job teaching the course and he is very involved with the discussions. He gave plenty of time to complete assignments.

Professor Jacobs is one of the few professors that I have come across that actually participates in the discussions. He truly wants to make sure that his students are learning and engaged in their school work. I plan on taking another class with him in the fall and I am looking forward to it. If you have a chance to take a class with him, do it.

Best online course professor I've had so far! He's extremely engaged in the individual module discussions, a fair grader, and I can tell he truly wants all of his students to succeed. Very knowledgeable on the subject of HR management, provides encouragement throughout the course, and is lenient in providing extensions for assignments. A++++

Professor Jacobs was one of my favorite professors thus far. He was sympathetic to individual situations and responded to questions quickly. He even jumped in on a few discussions. There was quite a bit of homework/discussions/and papers, but overall I did learn a ton from his class and hope to have him for a different class in the future.

Hands down the best professor Ive had since starting at ESC! Professor Jacobs checks in a few times each week to see how the students are progressing with the module and offers suggestions on the assignments. He has a true passion and commitment to seeing his students succeed. The feedback that he offered after each assignment was very helpful.

There are quite a few papers, but if you do the work and follow the grading rubric, you will be fine. He is understanding if life happens and you have to turn in something late. Highly recommend.

Professor Jacobs is a pleasure to work with. HRM is an advanced course and I recommend not taking more than one advanced at a time. There is a lot of homework and papers to write, even a group project. But overall, Professor Jacobs is very thorough and very understanding. He truly has your best interest in mind. Professor Jacobs is great! He is very encouraging and wants you to succeed. I took the eight-week sprint course, so it was a lot of work but nothing more than any of the other professors. As long as you participate in group discussion and do your research, you will do fine.

Best professor! He is very interactive, understanding & gracious. Must login 2-3x per week for discussion boards, but easy work with 2 group projects. Stay focused and get your work done on time. He will grade you on your performance, so you must show dedication to his class. Discussions are very important to complete and make sure to answer one or two extra discussion questions to be safe. Communication is great! I would take again.
