humanities
cool guy
Fun class, awesome storyteller!!! Need a Humanities class? Take Kinsella!!
Wasn't sure about this class, but took it and it was the BEST class I ever took at this school! It opened up my eyes and I'm thankful for Ian teaching it.
I have long since graduated, but remember Kinsella as a phenomenal professor. He is what you hope professors will be like when you are young and dream of going to college.
Ian Kinsella is the epitome of a great college instructor. He will open your mind and make your college experience worth while. I will always remember his classes.
kind of hard to understand but nice
The best class i have had since i started college
He is very helpful to getting you to understand who you are. He is easy and does not give exams for this class. He did give 2 paper assignments though, they were easy too. Want a easy A take Kinsella. He is fun!!!
The most influential professor I've had, by far. Please take Kinsela before you graduate, he is worth it. He is interested in students learning something we actually need rather than making the grade.
awesome interpretations of the concept of evil and brought into a real world perspective Very open minded and sees things in a very different, but very intriuging light
Mr. Kinsella is a great story-teller with a wide range of facial expressions. If you are open-minded & willing to consider some alternative possibilities you'll be have fun in this class. If you are very structured in your beliefs, you may get a little offended. For a class I had no interest in taking, I actually learned something.
I liked him the first day of class. I think the only thing about him that I wasn't thrilled about was how he spoke of mythology.
Easy class, just a bit boring. He talks alot about mythology and journeys.
Excellent teacher, very interesting information presented in a delightful manner, of course his name was John White at the time but still the everpresent cynical outlook, I believe he was on his third or fourth wife at the time. haha lol, Great Professor
Briefly, you could learn from him just by having a conversation with him. Very good teacher
really deep guy.
he's a cool guy. we don't have to do much in his class. all we do is discuss things about life and obviously humanities.
crazy ol' coot!
he's an interesting guy, but he's big into Carl Jung, who is laregly full of it and you can see it in his lectures
great guy. my favorite teacher during my college stay. knows what's important in life, and if you know how to respond to religion and mythology, he'll love you. a very passionate man and a great guy.
Jesus saves, but Kinsella is God!!!

He's hilarious. All of his tests are easy. -EVERYTHING- on the test will either be a glossary word, person, or famous object. Usually has 2 short answer, and one essay question. Just pay attention in class, and it's a sure A. Just listen with an open mind, he's not objective to the material, and isn't out to prove religion to be false. It's just th
i had a bad experience with this man. i aced his tests but still received a D for my final grade because of absences; my son was born 2 months premature and i ended up missing 2 months worth of class (had legit excuses). kinsella told me i didnt need an excuse but in the end it was the absences that killed my grade. not understanding at all
This man is a riot. He's absolutely one of the coolest professors you'll ever meet. Extremely funny and his class is really interesting. TAKE NOTES. His stories are awesome, write them down, you'll need them for his tests. Tests are pretty easy as well. Great professor!
Kinsella is pretty entertaining.. and his class is fairly easy. He tells you everything that will be on the test. Take notes, a lot of the stuff he talks about is not in the book. Overall, I enjoyed this class.
Awesome class. Kinsella is hysterical and so easy to follow. Genuinely interested in the openions of his students and comes up with REALLY interesting topics for discussion.
Amazing teacher! He is a story teller so his lectures are all that is tested on. Fun and interesting class!
He makes the class very interesting. I totally recommend him! Easy A.
Just finished the class with an A. Kinsella manages to keep an other wise boring class entertaining. Buy the book and take good notes in class. His three test are not that hard.
Classes were so boring, and got off subject ALOT. Not my kind of class, and dreaded going to it.
Kinsella is the best teacher I have ever taken. I recommend to take every class that you can. His class is so interesting, I would be disappointed when it was over or canceled. A person should not receive a college degree until they have taken a Kinsella class!!
Tests are a little difficult, but manageable. he is funny and ****ed so interesting.
Best teacher ever!!!!
If you are looking for a different type of class, this is it. I learned things I never knew before. The class is lecture based but he welcomes input, really. I enjoyed the class.
SUPER interesting class. Gives the essay questions before the test but expects essays to be extremely good. One of my favorite classes by far.
I LOVED THIS CLASS! This man is absolutely brilliant! His test aren't too bad either and the workload is pretty much nonexistent. He is a great teacher and he actually cares about his students, which is refreshing! I would highly advise choosing him as a teacher!
the best professor i have ever had. take this class. this man is a god. he is absolutely brilliant.
I really did not enjoy his class. I thought he was arrogant and a know-it-all. If you are willing to worship him then you will probably like the class, otherwise, you are screwed.
awesome teacher, very funny and gives a lot of free absences. take notes and listen and make sure to turn in assignments and you should do well. TAKE THIS CLASS.
i only took this teacher because of the other comments on this page. However, he IS NOT A GOOD TEACHER. he does give you a lot of free absents (we got 7 in a summer semester) BUT unless you are willing to see his point and worship the ground that he walks on you will not do good in this class. DO NOT TAKE HIM
ok seriously he's like neck and neck with king david or moses. he's my savior
funny, interesting, easy-going, friendly. however, if your interpretation of lit is different from his, it's essentially wrong and therefore unacceptable. in order to do well, you have to agree with him on everything and mimmick his mindframe. lots of reading and note-taking necessary. do not slack off, or you'll suck.
BEST teacher ive ever had! he is hilarious and kept me entertained the whole class (had a 3hr long class period). never wanted to skip class either cuz it was just to great lol TAKE HIS CLASS!!! lol
Very knowledgeable and funny. Please take him. He could lay off on the cursing, and he rags on Christianity a lot, but he's still a good professor. He makes the topics interesting. The 3 tests consist of 3 essays (which you choose individually from a list and know beforehand) and a list of terms where you pick which ones to define.
Mr.Kinsella is smart and can be funny. His class is easy and interesting. He does curse to much and his words towards Christianity can be harsh. If you are strong in your faith, take him.
Mr. Kinsella is one of my favorite teachers. Our topic was "Mythology," and I enjoyed the class thoroughly. He made the class interesting and it's discussion driven, so he likes you to participate. He is outspoken but in a good way. (I'm a woman and a Catholic but didn't mind his ragging on either because it was just meant to make us think)
I took him for "God vs. Science" class. A very smart man with a lot of insight. Some people don't like him because he has strong opinions about things and sticks to what he thinks. When you take a humanities class, you must know that there will be different opinions and beliefs. Even though i don't always agree with him, i always respect him.
Class was team taught with Ancelet. Class was not as interesting as I thought it would be, but fairly easy. Take home mid term & final, and research paper are only grades. Both professors were very nice.
This is my third time taking a Kinsella class and only my second semester of school. He is easy, funny, intelligent, and he cut back on cursing a whole lot. All you have to do for his class is think!
I love Kinsella. This was my third class with him. He's a great teacher, though very opinionated. This class, however, was BORING! It was very easy, though. The only grades are three papers. This was the class on cave paintings.
Awesome teacher!! Very flexible when it comes to attendance, just talk to him. Pay attention in class, everything you need to pass he says in class!
Best freaking professor at UL. Words cannot describe how amazing this person is. He has the best personality to begin with, loves what he teaches, tells really funny stories. I had this class from 5 PM to 8 PM and it was NO problem at all sitting there for 2.5 hours. I loved him. He's really funny and intelligent. TAKE HIM PLEASE.
I already took 152 made a A, I took Ian and made an D. I'm not one to bash becuz I got a bad grade, I'm just being honest.I hear this guy is a lot better during regular semesters.Took him over the summer. You disagree with him your on his s**t list. 1/2 of my class it was their 2nd time taking him.Others like him becuz he curses in class.lol w/e
Kinsella is a great teacher. I'm in 2 of his classes right now, and I never want to skip. He is very opinionated though, so his class is not for the faint of heart. He encourages students to really think, and at the beginning of the semester he advises you to drop if you are easily offended in matters of sex, faith, drugs.
He is a great teacher. I got a D. Yet, I use a lot of info that I learned in this class. I just disagreed with his Christian is #1 stance. So, just make sure to kinda agree. He is a very good story-teller though and if you actually go to his room (I didn't) I heard he will help you with your grade. :)
Kinsella is like a book- full of information just sitting in the front of the room. Like a book, if you are not interested in the subject matter you wont enjoy him or his class. He has no "stance" on religion- he points out absurdities as well as positive contributions of religous organizations. He's sharp, so if you dont pay attention- youre lost.
Mr. Kinsella is an amazing teacher. He is well-spoken, intelligent and passionate about his students. Taking classes with him has changed my life, and the way I think about and view the world. Read the material, ask questions, listen; if you do these things you will make an A in the class and walk away a more enlightened human being.
I've had Kinsella for several classes. It's completely untrue that if you disagree with him, you're screwed. He WANTS his students to think and develop their own opinions. As far as religion, he is a devout Catholic but is the first to let others sound off on religion as much as they want. One of the few teachers who is truly passionate about his j
The man is amazing. He is incredibly knowledgeable about his what he teaches, passionate about knowledge and just all around fun. Don't take his class if you can't take a joke or are overly sensitive. Read the material and go to class and you will do well. I can't say enough about his class's. If you like the topic, take the class.
Great teacher and easy... Probably best to agree with him on his opinions, but hey who cares! Just sacrifice how u feel so you can pass with ease... He makes great points and his test are easy, make sure essays are error free! Winter class is a great choice
Wonderful teacher, Wonderful guy. Knows what he's talking about and taught me so much. RECOMMEND.
Good teacher, enjoys what he does...Test were sort of easy..make sure you read and know the story..Summer class had only a mid term and final
Favorite Professor throughout my college career.
Great teacher, enjoys what he does and assigns great literature. I would take another class from him.
Kinsella is a great teacher. He is one of those people who are overqualified for their job. You will learn so much! Our only grade was our midterm and final but he grades pretty easy on content and harder on grammatical errors.
He's a walking encyclopedia and a frickin legend among liberal arts grads. Just go to class, sit down, and absorb. The kind of stances he takes are such that if you disagree with him you aren't being critical enough, whether it's about yourself or the content.
Best teacher I've had at UL so far! Way overqualified to teach such a basic literature class. His ideas and analysis will blow your mind. Smartest guy I've ever had the pleasure of learning from. Took this class in the summer and the only grades were a mid term and a final. Gives two, three page essays a week before you take the in class part, which is usually based on quotes to see if you actually read the material. Tests can be a little tricky but Kinsella is a legend. Just sit back and listen
Dr. Kinsella likes to go on tangents very often. Knowing other literature pertaining to Greek mythology and the scripture would be useful. 4 essays total. 2 at the midterm and 2 at the final. Work load isn't bad. Attend class, pay attention, and you'll do fine.
I took this class as a humanities elective for my last undergrad semester. I thought it would be easy, I was wrong. He didn't assign any homework but I found his tests to be difficult for a 100 level class. It required at least 3 to 4 hours of studying out of class. I will say that he was entertaining but cranky at times. Attendance was required
I love Kinsella. He is sometimes very blunt, which offends some people, but he has a wicked sense of humor and is always kind and helpful. The only homework was to read 3 books, then he lectured/discussed them with us in class. 2 2 pg papers on each book. We got topics on Friday and they were due the next Wednesday. No research, no tests, no final.
He is hilarious! I love that he gives the essay questions ahead of time. He let us know exactly how many points everything was worth and nothing was on the test that had not been reviewed in class. Would definitely stiffest taking him above others.
the best. do not leave college without taking one of his classes.
I took Mythology with him and it's been amazing. He is one of the most kindest and interesting professors I've had since I've been at UL. Very interesting lectures and totally engages with students. Only 2 grades, but easy essay questions! Definitely recommend! Easily my favorite class this semester.
he is amazing my favorite professor by far!!!!!! take him!! he is very interesting. got a B loved ever minute of his lecture
Not my first time taking Kinsella, obviously because he is truly the best professor I have had yet at UL. Took him for HUMN 200 -"Intro to Mythology" and HUMN 300 - "Oracles and Prophets in the Ancient World". He is always teaching classes with very interesting themes and is basically a walking encyclopedia of knowledge
Mr. Kinsella is a hoot. He curses all the time and his course was enjoyable. Sometimes inappropriately rude in the way he deals with some students. 2 take home essays for both the final and midterm. Have to read the books, gives pop quizzes! It's his opinion that matters ONLY in his course.
Very good and knowledgeable instructor. Would take again for any course.
Go to class to get your participation, no tests just turn in 2 midterm essays and 2 final essays. Super easy A. Great class and great teacher!
One of my favorite professors. His lectures will get you to think and open your mind. He's very inspirational and will find inspiration in the most boring literature. I've taken him twice and will take him again. Only a midterm and final. He grades on grammar errors rather than content.
I've taken Kinsella multiple times, for both Engl & Humn. Tests don't exist, basically two papers. One midterm and one final. Best professor I've ever had. Introduced me to the most amazing stories, films, novels, and art. So interesting, I'd marry him if i could.
This is who you think of when you think a college professor, his class is him reading from the books he assigns and you sitting there either highlighting or playing on your phone. He gives two take home papers, mid term and final. EASY.
He is very nice and such a sweet man. His lectures are entertaining, but If you aren't religious, don't take this class, most of the literature he picks to focus on is religion based and he loves to talk about the Bible. If that's your thing, you'll love him. Allowed a bunch of absences and only a midterm/final that are both take home. Easy A.
Mr. Kinsella is very open in the beginning about what this class is not: a bible study. I'd have to agree with him as he teaches incorrect information about the Bible. I stayed in this course purely because he allows 7 absences. Only 2 papers: a midterm and a final paper. Make sure to agree with all of his views or your grade will suffer.
Honestly I was expecting so much more out of this class and the professor. Even though I passed his class he made everything difficult for me personally and was not very nice. He is an older man so he does thingshis way and doesn't not do things up to date. If you want an "easy A" I don't recommend this class unless you like writing long papers.
honest opinion NOT a good teacher - its like ' sit here and listen to my opinion for an hour.' -he doesnt teach; he talks and goes on tangents. - big ego -. very Aggressive/rude about being late to his irrelevant class for some reason. -Also have to ASK to go to the bathroom like were in grade school - gotta have his opinion to make a good grade
No tests, only a midterm and final which are both papers. He grades kinda tough but that's because it's the only assignment he gives you and he cares a lot about the topics. He gives like 7 skips for class and all he does is read to us at his desk and go on about his opinions and it is in your best interest to agree with them.
THE WORST TEACHER EVER! Do not take him he is very disrespectful & totally unfair!
SO GLAD I TOOK HIS CLASS! Allows you to miss some classes (but I never wanted to). Basically reads to the class, explaining passages as he goes along. No tests, only a Midterm and Final essay that he lets you select the questions you want to discuss. Easy. He can be a curmudgeon but he's really a softy inside.
This was a fairly easy class. 2 grades - midterm and final so if you don't do well on those then you are out of luck. Pretty much reads to the class the entire hour. Not very respectful towards students. Made several rude comments/remarks towards students throughout the year. Not a hard class, just an unpleasant professor.
Kinsella is an amazing teacher! I would definitely take him again! He only gives a midterm and a final which consist of take home essays an an in class exam. They are easy though. I took him for English Literature. The only homework we had was to do readings which I really enjoyed and we discussed in class. The class is very interesting and easy!
He's very touchy with attendance, he values highly what he teaches. its a respect thing to him.
Yaaaaawwwwnnnnn! Such a boring class. He just reads to you and he says he wants class participation but he's pretty much just giving his own opinion and doesn't really allow for the class to give input.
He allows 7 absences. He only has a midterm and a final which is essays and an in class which is quotes based off of the short stories we read. Hes very fair when it comes to grading. I was scared I was gonna fail. He just reads to you in class which is highly boring. I had to sleep before his class to not fall asleep. Textbook is free online.
I would not take another course with this professor again. He was great, don't get me wrong. He sat and read the entire class period. The work was not hard, but I would not recommend taking him. We also had 3 tests and 6 papers for the course, so if you don't like writing, don't take this course. It was quite boring, and would make you want a nap.
He claims to be morally accurate. I thought his lectures were comical at first, but quickly realized he's extremely uncaring, and makes fun of students for leaving class by making derogatory statements about them when they leave. He cussed us out in the middle of class for not doing a reading, but I never heard him mention any readings.
