yo manly! He taught the flipped calc (lecture vids online and worksheets are done in class). It sounds a little odd, but it's very manageable. He gives a quick review of the video before handing out the worksheets to work on. The worksheets are participation. He knows the material and can explain things well if you ask him, same test as traditional
Loved his class, but lectures were online and useless. Go to office hours and learn from him not the online stuff. Do well on the quizzes and study for the exam and youll be fine
Dr. Manly is a great person, but his classroom is flipped. Dr. Keeran makes the exams and has created a lecture book with questions identical to his exams. I recommend taking his class if it is your first time in calculus because it will give you an advantage. If you do have calculus background, Dr. Manly's flipped classroom is the best!
Dr. Manly is one of the nicest professors at the University of Florida, and it is only his first semester! He is a kind soul. He only teaches flipped, but the extra practice was a must for the exams. He prepares you really well. His short explanations are better than the flipped videos that you are "supposed to watch." Nice and caring guy!
Calc 2 isn't easy, but Dr. Manly makes it very manageable. He does teach flipped, meaning you watch the lectures at home and do worksheets in class, but he does give short, 10 minute reviews at the beginning of classes. He teaches more in those 10 minutes than most calc professors can teach in 50. Overall you really can't go wrong taking his class
Manly is a great guy. He really cares for his students. The class overall is really hard, but he's by far the biggest advocate for his students compared to the other professors. Always willing to help, always extremely kind AND CARING!! He is by far one of the best professors I've ever had and very funny. I loved his class & looked forward to it
You cannot ask for a better professor. Dr. Manly is amazing and and truly cares about his students' success in the class. While calc 2 itself is difficult and requires you to put in the effort, Manly is always willing to help and explain concepts further if needed. P.S. He also rounds final grades up, and replaces your lowest midterm with the final
He didn't really get a chance to teach much because this was a flipped class, but this guy was clutch. He rounded my grade up over 1.5% to the next grade boundary and he is always in favor of curving exams even if the other teachers aren't Calc 2 is very hard. Make sure you study a lot. I think Manly would be helpful if you had questions for him
calc 1 is just tough in UF in general but as long as you take it seriously and really do study hard for the exams and make an effort to go to class and keep up with everything, you can definitely get an A. it's a hard subject, treat it like that. since this class is flipped, Manly didn't teach the whole time but hewas still appreciated. I recommend
Great instructor, summarizes lessons really well
Very caring professor who cares about your success. Lectures were not by him, but they followed a note shell that was easy to follow and prepared you for the lecture quizzed and homework, which are not unlike the exams. Overall, a laid-back math course that was actually somewhat enjoyable, and Prof. Manly is a great fit in UF's math department.
Really caring guy. Wants his students to succeed. For exams, he posts exam study guides and practice exams. For homework, he sets them up to be straight-forward and based on knowledge of the material. No textbook needed. Just watch lectures, take notes and learn, do homework, and prepare for exams.
Nice person but bad teacher. If you took bc calc in high school just go straight into calc 3. I was told that calc 3 is too hard but calc 2 was a waste off time .
love this man hes a genius
Great professor that really wants his student to succeed.
By far the best math professor I have ever had. He is incredibly kind and is always available for private zoom calls and responds to emails fast, even on exam days. Honestly one of the best out there.
Astounding professor! He is truly for the culture
The best professor so far. He is super nice and explains things very well. If you pay attention in his class and you actually do the homework, it should be an easy A. The homework and practice tests are always harder than the actual exams. If there is an issue on an exam he will usually give extra credit. Also just a cool guy overall.
Professor Manly is a great calc teacher who really cares about his students. There are many opportunities to ask questions during his office hours, through email, and in the discussion periods. He is great at explaining calc topics and I am looking forward to having him again for calc 3.
Dr Manly is an amazing professor. This semester was entirely online but he still took the time to answer every question in the chat. He is great at teaching and his lectures always make the content easy to understand. Could not recommend more!
Best math teacher I've ever had. Took him as a freshman and he taught everything very well.
Dr. Manly did a great job explaining many of the difficult concepts that are covered in Calc 2. As someone whose only exposure to calculus prior to this class was AP Calc AB my senior year of high school, I was still able to grasp all of the new topics introduced in this class rather easily thanks to Dr. Manly's lectures.
Dr. Manly is the best math professor I have ever had. Explains every concept very thoroughly and in a way that makes hard concepts easier to understand. Exams are difficult, but it is not hard to get an A or B if you pay attention in class and know how to do the homework questions.
I had credit from AP Calc BC but still took MAC2312, and it was hard. I definitely felt like I lost hope at various points this semester but Dr. Manly is very motivating and helpful. He is good at delivering material and always answers questions, also good at keeping up with the Zoom chat. He is very understanding and curved some tests too.
Don't be overconfident if you took AP BC or IB math in high school. This class will still take some work. Manly's lectures were really easy to follow and he explained everything REALLY well and was super responsive to everyone asking questions constantly.
Really cool guy, gives good lessons, and the amount of assignments isn't overwhelming. The tests are fair are he gives many resources for you to study from.
I took his class online so it was easier than other semesters so take this into consideration. Overall, he's a super cool dude and really cares about his students. However, his lectures for me were a bit hard to follow. C Demas posted her lectures for the final exam and I liked them better. Understand the all the hw problems and you should be fine.
Amazing guy with 2 iconic cats
Great Guy. Great Lectures and Great Personality. Hard class though.
Manly has been one of the best calculus teachers I have ever had. He is very clear in his directions and is always willing to help his students when it is asked. Highly recommend!
Dr. Manly is an excellent professor for Calc 2. He cares about his students and gives a ton of resources to help with a difficult class and makes his lectures informative, interesting, and funny. Literally the only reason I passed Calc 2.
He was very kind, patient, and extremely knowledgable in the subject. The class wasn't easy though, but he gets you through it and wants you to succeed. He answers questions really effectively and curved 3/4 tests. He made a practice test before every test, and I recommend fully understanding it; it was usually fairly similar to the real test.
Calc 2 was really hard, but Dr. Manly was great. He teaches really well and if you put the time in you can definitely get an A. I didn't study as much as I could've and that showed on a couple tests. But he doesn't try to trick you on tests and he is very helpful if you're confused in class.
Hands down the best math professor I have ever had. I had him for calc 2 and loved it so much that I took his calc 3 class as well. He understands and empathizes with his students while explaining incredibly complicated concepts clearly and concisely. Manly is the GOAT, if you have the option to take his class, do it.
Absolutely amazing professor. Despite every class being lecture, he's amazing at it and funny. He is very understanding if anything comes up and will always work with you. His class is very very exam heavy so actually study for them and you can do well. Otherwise, just participation each class and some homeworks, but its math so what do you expect.
Professor Manly was an amazing professor, he was funny, caring, and knew the material very well. He was always clear and made sure that students felt comfortable enough to ask questions regardless of if they were in person or over zoom, and though every class was a lecture and I was online, I felt engaged and able to participate fully.
Probably one of the best math teachers you will ever have. I am genuinely sad that I will never take on of his classes again. I took calc 2 and 3 with Dr. Manly and he is all around amazing.
This class is ridiculously hard. ESPECIALLY in an online format. That being said, Dr. Manly was a great teacher and I wouldn't have passed if he wasn't such a strong lecturer. Wish I had been able to take this class in a face to face classroom.
Took this online Summer 2020. Lectures were prerecorded, only interaction was in review sessions BUT he did an amazing job. The first/only math instructor I've had who didn't make a single mistake when going through problems. When asked a question, he immediately knew how to tackle it & explain it well. Quizzes/exams were super easy.
Dr. Manly is the GOAT. Calc II is pretty difficult but he made it easy to understand and kept me engaged. You can tell he really cares for his students and wants us to pass. He also can be kinda funny sometimes.
I had Manly for 2312 and 2313 and he has been my favorite math teacher ever. He is very caring and always willing to answer questions. He also gives very good and informative lectures, but be prepared to do extra work to do well on the tests outside of class time. Lots of extra credit offered.
Is a great professor and actually helps if you dont understand the concept. Pretty funny too.
He's very approachable, and even though class would have a lot of students, it never felt impersonal. He explained things well, but the fourth topic kind of went over my head. The class structure is a little strange sometimes, but he and Prof Shu-Han did a good job teaching the course. There were definitely a lot of resources! Exams were okay.
This class is very hard, but it was not because of Dr. Manly. His lectures were packed with lots of explanations and examples, and they were always recorded. He was willing to go over any example in office hours, and he went over solutions to the in-class assignments before they were due. Overall, a really cool guy as a person too.
I had Dr. Manly for calc 2 and I absolutely loved it. Calc 2 is a hard subject itself but I think that he had really detailed lectures. I also used studyedge to help me structure my studying. I ended with an A at the end of the semester
Dr. Manly is a great guy. He explained topics pretty well but I found myself doing assignments that expected a lot more out of me than what the lectures covered, especially since there was no textbook. Not very work heavy for a calculus class. Tests werent hard but definitely not easy. Very nice guy though and always willing to help.
Dr. Manly is an amazing teacher and a super nice person in general. I had never taken Calculus in high school and I was a little apprehensive, but I easily got A's on all of his exams. I highly recommend going to office hours if you have any questions. I would have loved to take this class in person.
I love this man. He cares for his students and does his best to help them out when they need it. 10/10
Calc 2 is one of the hardest classes I've ever taken, and Ian Manly is the reason I didn't hate every second of it. He is a master at relaying the information in a way that is digestible, and explains the harder parts by breaking it down and explaining the basics. I have never had such an amazing math teacher. If you can have him teach you, do it.
Extremely thorough in his explanations. Doesn't just teach calculus, but makes you understand why you're doing the things you're doing. Calc 2 is a tough class, but with Manly you'll have no problem, especially if you watch every lecture. Not heavy on homework, but exams are really the only way to get a good grade.
Amazing lectures. No need for external. He doesn't move too quickly, and always answers questions well.
This was my second semester having Dr. Manly; I had him for Calc 2 and then for Diff Eq. He is an amazing teacher, explains things really well, does example problems all the way through, and answers any and all questions. MAP2302 is honestly a fairly easy class but having Dr. Manly made it a pleasure.
Professor Manly is awesome. Uses great examples in class and the exams are like the easiest version of most topics. Do the homework legit and you will see results.
MAC2312 is a tough class there is no changing that. However Dr. Manly is a professor who will work with you to make sure that you are well prepared for your exams and the next level of calculus. He is quick to respond and very accessible outside of the classroom. Dr. Manly made MAC2312 suck a lot less and I am very thankful for him. DR MANLY RULES!
Manly is my favorite professor at UF. It's differential equations, obviously you have to put in the work. It's not insufferably difficult though. Just do the work, keep up with lectures, and you can do well in this class.
Dr. Manly explains things very clearly and he is very approachable and easy to access outside of lecture. You definitely need to put in the practice yourself but he explains things with no confusion. He made a very difficult subject easy to understand and I would take him again if I had the chance to.
Manly's lectures > Chui's lectures. He makes all the tests and they're not too hard. Don't underestimate the class but you'll be fine.
He is a pretty good math teacher. He teaches almost exactly like the exams, and there are not too many assignments. He seems nice. Overall, not a bad class, perfect workload!
Be prepared, Calc 2 is the weed-out class at UF for stem majors. Besides the fact that this is a challenging course, he is definitely one of the best math teachers I have ever had. He is clear, understandable, and I am able to follow him every step of the way. Know your Trig Identities and Unit Circle. Get help EARLY if you are struggling
The homeworks are very hard but you have unlimited tries to get a 100. There are participation grades for each lecture. The professor is very caring and tries to help you pass. The exams are easier than past years exams. Can get an A with procrastinating. I don't recommend though.
Dr. Manly is super nice and enthusiastic about math and explains the topics as well as he can in a 50 min lecture, but calc 2 is honestly just really hard in general. Homework is usually pretty easy and discussion quizzes are a joke as long as you go to your discussion, but tests are extremely hard and they make up 75% of your grade.
This is an auditorium class so the lectures were a little impersonal (obviously). However, Professor Manly makes complicated topics far easier to understand and cares about his students' success. If you attend class/watch the lecture videos you will succeed in this class. Most test questions are based on concepts outlined by Manly.
Hes just generally great and is good at explaining things at a good speed and in a way that makes great sense. His classes are hard because the material is but he is a good teacher and I am taking another class with him
Dr. Manly is the best Calculus professor at The University of Florida by a mile. In his lectures he breaks down complex topics to a very simple level, leaving the listener with a deep understanding. As far as I am concerned, there is no reason for the University of Florida to not pay him a seven figure salary. He's a rockstar!
Fantastic class. His lectures are easy to understand, and he's available for questions, even when you're on Zoom. You definitely should attend his lectures if plan on passing the class.
His lectures were better than other Calc professors, but still not the best. He curved some exams and definitely wants everyone to do well but in order to understand what we were learning I had to use study edge because he just doesn't spend enough time on concepts or doing practice problems. Honestly an easy A with study edge.
This class is known for being one of the harder Calculus classes. Professor Manly is very understanding and nice but I wouldn't have passed without study edge. The way they explain everything helps so much! Without them I most likely would've had to retake this class.
Dr. Manly is the greatest professor I have had so far in UF. I had him for Calc 2 and I currently have him for Diff EQ. These classes are no joke, but if you pay attention to the (extremely helpful and well made) lectures, you should do fine. If I could have Dr. Manly teach every one of my classes I would.
Dr. Manly is legitimately the GOAT. Had him for calc 2 - diff eq, best professor I've ever had.
Professor Manly is by far my favorite professor at UF. I have had him as a professor for both CALC s and DFQ. I also watch his youtube lectures for my CALC 3 class because I don't like the way my current professor teaches. He is so knowledgable about math and loves what he does. He is so good at explaining math concepts.
Manly is the best professor I've ever had at UF. I had him for Calc 2, 3, and Diff Eqs, and he made much of the material super easy to understand. He is very relaxed and responds to emails quickly. He does allow for some fun every now and then, showing us his cats when he is lecturing from home. Would take again!!!!
AMAZING LECTURES AND MAKES CALC 2 EXTREMELY EASY TO UNDERSTAND. Problem is that your grade is decided by 4 exams.
Dr. Manly is the best math professor at UF, hands down. He is really kind and caring and knows the material very well. He often will show us shortcut/simplified methods to solving a problem fast. He didn't make the exams for the class tho, Prof Demas did, so I made sure to watch both professors' reviews. Overall he is a great professor.
The man, the myth, the legend, the GOAT. I had Dr. Manly for Calc 2 and made sure to get him again for Calc 3 and Diff EQ. Dr. Manly drops 81 like Kobe every time he gives a lecture. He is the best math professor at UF easily; I'm now in the second half of my math major reminiscing back on the days in his classes. 100% recommend.
Just an awesome professor. Explains material clearly and articulately. Has high standards for himself. Consistently opens up the floor for questions and will answer all of them. The class is a lot of busy work, but exams do not have surprises, so most people do very well.
Ian Manly is a great professor and would definitely recommend him, I took him for Calc 2. Make sure to attend every lecture because it can be quite easy to fall behind, with a lot of new material each lecture. Exams were difficult but as long as you put in enough effort you'll pass.
Prof. Manly is amazing - he is very knowledgeable, yet down-to-earth, ready to help, and teaches very well. Responds to emails quickly, has interesting lectures. Overall, take him if you can, great guy.
I loved this professor! He was an awesome lecturer, made time outside of class to meet with his students and actually cared about my success. The content of this course is challenging but I would take it again with this professor.
This professor was absolutely amazing!! Study edge helps a lot with this class so definitely get it! He is a great teacher who actually cares about the well-being and success of his students. Easy to get an A with his teaching strategies and study edge!
HUGE BLOW TO UF's MATH DEPARTMENT FOR LETTING HIM GO. Dr. Manly is a true Rockstar in lecturing, he is an elite professor. The way he is able to get knowledge across is unparalleled, would not be afraid of putting my money on him being in the top 1% of lecturers.
He is one of the best professors I had and is the best math professor. Nice lectures, fair grader, explains the material very well. He does not make the exams, so go to prof. Demas' reviews.
Had him for Calc 2. Excellent teacher. Explains concepts really well that might otherwise be complicated. There's quite a bit of homework but it ranges from simpler to more conceptual problems - all are necessary to learn the material. His practice exams are pretty similar to his actual exams, use them as much as you can to study.
Great professor. Would recommend
I wish I could have Ian Manly for every math class I have. He explained concepts extremely well and always kept Calculus II interesting. He was always willing to help students with questions and wanted every student to succeed in his class.
