Very funny and easy to understand, but the tests are only so so. And if you take his Abnormal Psyc. you might as well just memorize the DSMIV because that's where he gets most of his test material from.

Not an easy course. Awesome/nice prof w/ fairly hard tests, unless you study hard on online chapter outlines and classnotes. Do in class presentation for optional paper, & woo him w/ graphics, & typed overheads = guaranteed grade A- or B

Overall a good guy.Test we're great especially option "e". I would recomend him to anyone. However, early in the morning he can be a tad bit boring.

Very nice perosn and funny at times. Classes are usually boring--esp. the three hour classes. Test are easy, and hard. All M/C. Returns e-mails and offers help right away.

The class itself is stupid "communicating in groups" but Ian makes it interesting. He's really low key and his tests are not that hard. Group pres. requires little effort. No paper.

He can be super boring but easy to get an A just by reading the textbook. He posts all his lecture notes on the web so you don't even need to go to class as long as you read the stuff to prep for exam.

Wheee!! Take this course!! You don't have to go at all; all the necissary notes are online and in the textbook. I went to the class twice and got 90% on the midterm.

Awesome teacher! He's so great! He's really funny and animated during lectures, and that makes it easy to pay attention (although I nearly fall asleep a lot 'cause I never get enough sleep at home). His notes are online and it's straightforward and no BS.

Ian is a good guy. He's the most down to earth prof i've ever had. Be carefull though, he comes across as having a really slack teaching style but he is oraganized as hell and his exams are not a cake walk. I didnt study as much as I should have and usually got 65-70%.

Good man, good teacher, makes the class as fun as he can and not to strict, treats you as equal. Fair exams and fair assignments. I would recommend the class as long as you don't mind working in groups.

Funny guy. I've never laughed so hard during a test! (he always makes one funny answer to every multiple choice question) He manages to take really dry material, and makes it bearable. Very laid back and easy-going but don't underestimate the tests. Can be very helpful when you need it.

Just do all the readings and you'll do fine. :) His tests are easy & funny (with the (e) options ;P ) Try to answer the questions in the study guide since these questions are often very difficult. Funny lectures. (just relax!) Have fun!

i took both of his first year psyc courses. totally loved him. truly a nice person indeed. organized notes online. all MC midterms.

Posts his overheads on WebCT and elaborates on them in class. Not necessary to show up to every class but I liked him and his sense of humor so I did. His MC tests are the best! you'll hear quite a few people laugh out loud at them. Most of his Q's are from the text, but throws in Qs from class for those who go. I highly recomend him!

use the notes he provided online for the tests and use the text book and study guide. Go to the class for laughs and interesting tidbits. Easy A if you just do the reading and use your brain a little.

VERY funny teacher, ALL M/C for test (60)... pretty easy assignments..But alot of people dun do well on his tests... for some reason... but I did okay...still one more final to go and its all over ^^ NICE TEACH

Pretty funny guy, kept me semi-interested even though the class was 3 hours long. All M/C tests which are always nice, and assignments are basically bonus marks. Always drinks a coke during class which isn't good for your health, as I learned during the chapter about drugs.

QUALITY teacher, need more like him. Great guy too. Twisted humour, keeps class interesting. Organized, helpful, knowledgeable, take ANY class with him. Don't be fooled though, know your stuff, exams fair but challenging. Online discussion helpful. Best prof - its like they say about cats - if you don't like him, I probably wouldn't like you...

He's such a wicked teacher, really cool and hilarious. Ian has the power to make dry material in the textbook come to life. His exams are out of this world -> every question has a ridiculously funny answer! No paper for this psych class! Notes are on WEBCT, so you don't even have to take notes. Also, take Dr. Woolley for 1215, no paper! :)

just study all his notes and read textbook and you will be fine in tests. no research paper, just short assignments, great!

Haha he was a pretty funny prof. Made class really fun to go to. Tests were pretty fair. READ the textbook because there'll be little things in there that he doesn't cover in the lectures. He has tons of interesting stories to share that has a way of sticking in the mind. Awesome prof!

this guy is so funny. all the jokes are all related to the course material as well. i feel its such a waste that he didnt become a standup comedian instead. now on to the course. the tests are pretty hard because it cover so much stuff. stuff from the notes and the text and the videos and lecture!!!

"Working in groups", the subject is bs, but it's good he's teaching it though cause he's humourous and interesting. You can ask for help online and he replies VeRy quickly w/ extensive detail. He's a prof that actually interacts with students which makes me recommend him here.

great teacher! he is entertaining to listen to, often goes off to topics that are not related, but overall a good teacher. tests are quite difficult, but if you study, you will get a good mark.

Very amusing guy, though you'll pretty much be teaching everything to yourself. He posts notes online, though in class I probably wrote a total of 2 pages of notes all semester. He shows a lot of silly movies for different concepts. His tests are clear, multiple choice with two short answer. You'll have to do a group project which is worth 25%.

I had him as a substitute prof for my psych 1115 class a year ago and I still remember that one class he taught and his examples. He's soooo funny and the material sticks when your having fun! I want to take a course with him sooon!!

Most people will find Ian a funny guy and easy to listen to as a lecturer (or as much as can be for an intro psych class). Although going to class really isn't mandatory since he posts his notes online, I would really recommend going as you don't learn the material as well if you just read from the textbook. i know this from personal experience..

Mcbain was so great, every single class is filled with laughter. i don't know if he writes that stuff beforehand or not, but it's all gold, and he is easily the funniest teacher I've ever had. he's also really self deprecating and he's probably the only teacher who didn't have a single annoying thing about him. his classes are a breeze

He is a very interesting teacher and as far as teachers go, he is very funny. His classes are quite entertaining but fairly useless. He does explain his material well, HOWEVER, if you read your text, you're good, remember to read in depth though. Also, easy assignments. Only downside, to me at least, his tests are fairly difficult. 350 words ftw

Loved this class, and loved the prof!!! Taking this class reminded me why I love psychology and why I want to major in it. Every class was interesting. I found the exams easy, but I did study fairly hard. Assignments are straightforward and not difficult, and make sure to participate in the online discussions. Best class I've ever taken at Langara!

Every good thing said about him here is true. Fantastic instructor - funny, wise, humble, helpful, human, sympathetic - everything you would want in a psychologist and teacher. Slacking gets you nowhere, but quality teaching will give you all you need. Take every class you can with him, I did.

He seems like a really nice guy, is pretty funny and knows what he is talking about. Doesnt really stick to the subject of psychology in class, repeats self' and doesnt go over alot of material in class, leaving you to do a load of self teaching at home. Will go out of his way to help you if you need it, though!

Classes are useless. If you do the online stuff (easy, just time consuming), you get an easy 40% right off the bat (so if you get 50% on all of your tests, you will still leave the class with a 70%). Ian is so funny, so if you want some extra info and a funny class, attend. Would recommend.

Almost 3 years here at Langara and he's still the BEST prof I've had and is my absolute favourite although I had him in my very first two semesters!!!Every college student should take him. . those who dont are missing out on a lot!i reccommend him to all my friends!Extremely nice,HILARIOUS, down-to-eath!I've nothing but nice things to say about him

Pretty good teacher, very easy marker. Seems both fun and easy going. Low homework load, did not feel like the class covered alot (could have just been the content though).

Lectures were so boring...it became the class I did all my homework in. I could have self-learned all the material. He's a nice guy, the class is insanely easy, you really only need to show up for the 3 class assignment lectures--do the rest yourself. Textbook is mandatory WITH the course code. Don't buy the text used you won't get the code.

Ian is a fantastic instructor. He does a great job at presenting the material and does so in a humorous way. Both midterms and the final were completely multiple choice. The average was 71 and 68 percent respectively. The course itself was rather easy but it was clear that Ian enjoyed teaching it. Take this course if you need a fun arts elective!

It was great to have a funny guy teaching a psychological disorders class because his jokes take the awkwardness of discussing some of the sensitive topics that come up in the text. The course was not too difficult and very enjoyable.

Ian was such a great teacher, went in office hours and he was so helpful, I could tell he wanted me to do well. He always looks out for his students and make sure we understand the material. Will definitely take him again!

Honestly, he's a really nice, fair instructor. If you put in a moderate amount of effort, your grade will reflect that. He recognizes that sometimes certain circumstances beyond one's control can get in the way and if you ask he can help accommodate your situation. Highly recommended.

Psych course material is extremely interesting and his comic approach makes it even better. His exams are multiple choice. Took a mixed mode class, would recommend attending lecture. He posts lecture notes, but you need to be there to understand as they are a bit vague. Online work was interactive.

Great class. I was never bored. It helps if you actually like the material, if you do it'll be easy. The online stuff was super easy.

Ian mcbain is literally one my favorite professors! He's so funny and his lectures are ALWAYS entertaining! If you like a humorous prof he's great, not to mention how much he cares about his students! He uses launchpad for his assignment which motivates you to study every week, and will help you in regards to any questions!! Take his class!

-really entertaining and caring guy, but his lectures are dry -literally showed up for 5 lectures at the beginning of the semester and the midterms and final -online assignments are really easy and no papers to write -Midterm and finals are difficult if you do not study for it or practice the course pad assignments -did not use the textbook

Absolutely amazing, I loved every minute. He made us laugh every class and makes the material easy to understand. If you pay attention and read the textbook, you're good to go. LauchPad assignments are worth 27% and its so easy to do well on them. Two midterms and a final, all multiple choice. He even made the tests fun with joke options.

Ian is the best professor at Langara. 3 exams - two tests and one final the final is worth 33% and the other tests are worth 20% each. All the questions are Multiple choice. Launchpad part is worth 27%.Easy course and the best prof. and always helpful. Read the book , go through his slides and you will be fine. Trust me you won't regret taking him.

Ian was super funny and always in a good mood. Launchpad activities were worth 27% and were fairly simple. He tends to ramble during lectures, not finishing the whole lesson but some of his stories pop up during midterms, so show up to class if you can! You'll have to read the textbook in order to do activities and answer midterm questions.
