he is a good teacher. he likes to turn math into english with it still being math, which make it more understandable. he is obsessed with adendance so be on time.
Mr. Wu is the best teacher i've ever had. He is so good at explaining things and knows his math. Very personalable and funny. I would recommend him as a teacher for anyone and for any class!
makes math a living nightmare
Mr. Wu is very helpful when you ask. Unfortunately, he is very pessimistic. Instead of encouraging students, he begins his lectures by saying the topic is VERY difficult so the student already has a negative perspective on the topic. Stay on top of the assigned homewrk. He doesn't collect but it's definitely a must do.
This guy is absoloutely terrible. He is rude, unapproachable, and a joke of a teacher. I kid you not, throughout the class he would let out a sqealish laugh and say to himself "Did you see how fast I did that problem?" Aweful.
He is a smart guy but is just not a good teacher.
He is a challenging teacher, but he prepares you for real math if that is what you want. I have learned a lot since being in his class, he doesn't make it easy, but he just shows the holes in what you remember from the previous math classes you took. It is momentarily overwhelming at times.
Mr. Wu is the best math teacher I've had at Sierra so far. He is extremely helpful if you don't understand something. His tests can be somewhat difficult especially with the pressure of finishing within the time limit. But if you do your hw and the practice tests then you should be fine. Calculus is not an easy subject so don't expect too much.
Here's the great thing about Wu: He prepares you for the test. As long as you do every homework problem and if you understand them you will get at least a B. On his tests he uses hw questions or he'll tell what is going to be on there. Calc is a challenging course as is, the trick is to not brush it off the side but take it seriously. He's great.
he has a good personality and is willing to help you, highly recommended.
Wu is a nice guy and is helpful but isn't a good teacher honestly This class was a bit of a joke and could have been WAY more interesting. Easiest math class ever. Don't buy the book just buy the online registration. Recommended if you want an easy grade but the in class activities are weighed much more than they should be so don't miss class.
Wu is a nice person in the way that he wants to help the student learn. But he gets frustrated very easily. He messed up on a few quiz grades that I had. If math comes easy to you then his course may be okay for you.
For higher level math, he is the teacher you want to take. He is very helpful and as long as you do the homework, attend every lecture and ask for help you should be fine. Just dont procrastinate in this class. Calc is not easy but Professor Wu makes is lot easier.
His trigonometry class is easy. There is a very high chance to get an A, but you need to be very good at your algebra. He doesnt slow down. He goes at a fast pace, and most of the work you do it yourself. Take this class if you are good at math and welling to study by yourself.
I didn't enjoy his teaching style. So for others he might be great. He can be easily distracted and go off on tangents that take away from actual teaching. He grades hard and more importantly he grades your work. If you forget a minus sign in your work on a 5 point question you can get a zero regardless if you got the answer correct. So good luck.
Always willing to help and ask questions. He is honestly hilarious, but keeps it on a very professional manner. Passionate for calculus which is a nice change to keep the math from being that boring. I took calculus in high school and did not do so well but I took it with Wu and got an A. Study the takehomes and the tests are not too hard.
I hated trig when I started this class but Wu is an awesome teacher! He will spend non office, non class hours to help you! He helped me for 45 min on 1 problem until I understood the problem. He does grade tests hard and he expects you to know your algebra and do the homework!!! I loved Wu's class!
Mr. Wu is a teacher to the core and an awesome person. He is completely willing to help when asked and genuinely wants his students to succeed (as long as they want to lol). One of the best teachers I've ever met, he knows what it's like to be a student and just asks for desire and commitment in return. Wish more teachers were like him.
Professor Wu is a fantastic professor. He helped me whenever I needed and was willing to spend time helping me understand the material. Do the reading, keep up on the homework, and ask questions.
Great teacher, direct and to the point, without compromising clarity.
He prepared very helpful outlines every class, showed various techniques and presented many shortcuts. Explained any questions. He kept it interesting with some "special effects" ;)He will extended your favorite teachers' list.
Prof Wu is always quick to respond to any needs you have while you take the course online. Online math courses are essentially self taught, so if you dont have the discipline to study and keep up with the weekly homework, take the class on campus. The software used includes lecture videos which is all I used before doing the HW and exams.
I loved Wu, hated trig. He is the most helpful teacher I have ever had. He will go out of his way to help you and wants everyone to succeed. He clearly loves math and teaching. I plan on taking him for Calculus next semester! He gives hand outs for each lecture with wonderful explanations so you don't have to write as much!
Wu was an all around great teacher. He went above and beyond and prepared printed lecture outlines for each section he taught us which is basically unheard of in college. He has a great attitude when teaching and his passion for math certainly shows! He's very approachable and more than willing to help. Just put your best effort in, you'll succeed!
Uses MyMathLab for HW, which there are a lot of problems. Tests really aren't that hard and are fairly straightforward. Where the problem lies: His grading. His "big mistakes" can result in 0 points for an entire problem if you make one (i.e. say 4/4 fraction is 2 by mistake, get 0 for everything). KNOW the proper notation, however, and it's easy.
Wu is a nice guy, and probably a good instructor normally... I think this was his first time teaching Statistics though, and it was clear that he had no idea what he was doing. It seemed like he was making it up as he went. Lectures were painfully slow. We only got through about half of the material for the class.. Only 7 chapters in 16 weeks!
Online class and as long as you did your work and understand the concepts you can do well. It's a lot of work and a lot of homework for a class you don't get credit for, but it will set you up for the next class you have to take. He responds to emails, not always quickly, but he is helpful for sure. I would definitely take a class of his again.
The best thing about Wu is that he always tells you exactly what you need to know for the tests. He gives great feedback on homework and take-home tests so you know what you're doing wrong. In-class exams are almost always problems directly from homework. Difficult class, but Wu makes it much better.
Good class, but has a lot of homework. If you slack for a day, it is hard to catch back up. This class was difficult for me, but Professor Wu is a great professor and really cares. I would recommend him.
Really not someone you should take if you're rusty on your Algebra/Trig Skills as there's no opportunity to ask questions without being scolded about time or being behind. Overall, Calculus is just difficult and Wu's not the option. AVOID THIS CLASS.
I have taken classes at Sierra for several years (+176 units), including Math B - Math33 and Phys105-215. If you are in a major where you will be using mathematics in your career, I HIGHLY recommend you look elsewhere. Professor Wus class focuses on memorization and how quickly you can copy and regurgitate material vs learning and understanding .
He made weird noises while he did math problems instead of explaining any of the steps. He snapped at students for asking questions, wouldnt let us talk to each other to figure out what he wouldn't explain. It was a very strange experience that I dont ever want again.
His grading is 80% test , 20% quiz (pop quiz and FEW take home quiz). There is no accurate answer for homework problem so you do not know how he grades. He is a tough grader. He takes away lots of points from the smallest mistake. You can barely finish the test or quiz in given time. Prepare to invest lots of time in this class.
Good professor.
Took him for lots of online math classes. Wish I could take him for more. Easy Discussions weekly, Easy external assignments and works through ALEKS for hw which is my favorite. You kind of have to learn through the ALEKS software, because he wont teach you much. But I found that easier anyways. Take him!!
On my way to his class i would often wish a semi truck would hit my car so I wouldnt have to sit through his lectures. Just dont take this class. He took points away because I didnt put a period at the end of a problem.
Why is he even teaching online when he isn't teaching at all. All he post is links to "inspirational" new age videos instead of actually teaching , Awful professor if you see him don't take his class find someone else
- Very detailed and clear lecture notes that organize content in the textbook very well. - Tests are intuitive and doable as they are similar to the homework sets. - Mr. Wu is very accessible during office hours. He is also open to a lot of feedback during lectures so that we don't get left behind. - Great professor! Would take his classes forever.
Wu uses ALEKS learning system to teach his classes for him while he collects a paycheck. You will be "taught" by ALEKS, but I can only hope this is your only course this semester with the volume of workload he gives you. His grading criteria isn't clear on the things he actually grades himself either(ALEKS does most of the work for him) RUN!!!
I'm writing this because I wish I saw this before signing up for his class. He's using a private online proctoring company to have someone watch you while you take quizzes and exam to ensure you don't cheat. If your willing to give up your privacy then this class is for you!
You need to be able to study and work for your grade which is not what a lot of students these dats are looking for. Lots of homework and tough on grading- take him if you have the time to study.
Extremely strict and not willing to work with students. He's picky when it comes to grading. He wouldn't finish the lecture examples which made learning confusing. Had a weird incident with a student where she left crying.
Prof. Wu uses a math software called Aleks which is rather difficult to navigate and makes achieving a high homework grade very difficult. Wu does not lecture online, rather expects you to learn everything yourself. Was rude and condescending over email which left me feeling uncomfortable to finish the class or speak to him when necessary.
I do not recommend Mr. Wu whatsoever, especially for an online class. I was given a 0 on my midterm because my scanned work was turned in 10 minutes late. He offered me no solutions and told me to "withdrawal from his class immediately." He is a very hands off teacher and didn't record a single lecture all term. ALECS was what he used to "teach."
Assigns a ridiculous amount of homework without ever teaching the subjects. Hours will be spent trying to teach yourself in this class. He is quick to hurt students grades instead of trying to improve them. Uses a terrible software program called ALEKS for assignments that you will have to pay for. Would not recommend to anyone.
I had to drop this class after the first week because of the course load. I was waking up at 8am and going to bed around 3am just doing his assignments. I worried that in order to keep up with this course Id fall behind in all others.
Lots of work if you want to learn. Not an easy pass but doable!
Tough but fair teacher. Found it a breeze but still required lots of time for hw assigned. Pay attention to the practice exams as they are similar to the actual exam.
Amazing teacher- actually care about the students and how they do!
Inspiring teacher- keeps it real! Not hard at all- just do your homework
I had to refocus part of the way through the semester to give myself enough time to understand the math, but he was always ready to help me with questions along the way.
Best teacher Ive had for math - fair and accessible for questions! Highly recommend!
Professor Wu was one of the most understanding teachers I've had since starting online courses. He offers two extensions on assignments and was overall very compassionate towards students who struggled in the online environment. The class itself wasn't too difficult as long as you planned your time properly.
Professor Wu is very nice and respectful and uses the Aleks software online which I like. I've used the software in Stats and this class and I think it is great. There was a midterm and Final but you are able to take unlimited practice midterms and finals. He also let us skip the final if we were happy with our grade at the end of the term.
Great teacher - passionate and fair teacher.
Great overall teacher. Gives great feedback and is fair.
Know how to do the practice exams and you will ace the final.
Very patient showing me how to use the software and walking me through everything!
Not my favorite subject but he tries to make it as relevant to my major as possible . Very patient and straight forward which I appreciate !
Awesome teacher that cares about what he teaches. Too bad I dont as much but at least it wasnt torture lol!
Hate the software used but Wu is ok. Didnt have any difficulties.
survived! Learned a lot though through the hw problems which were on the exam.
Great teacher overall. Just need to do the hw.
Tough class and no joke. Wu was adamant about no cheating and showing work. Just do all the assignments and you should be fine.
Easy and learned a lot. Wants to get to know students and that they are learning. Show your work and do the assignments and its a breeze
He doesn't teach and instead thrusts his work on other students and the tutors to help each other. Uses the Aleks software ($100) which doesn't teach anything. You'll be on YT for tutorials as the program hardly tells you how to do the problem/skip steps. Not recommended for BEGINNER math as I am now doing calculus in a beginner course.
If you spend 110% of your time on this course, you might pass with a B+ at best. The material and concepts were not the problem for me, the absolutely EXCESSIVE workload was. He is also a bit condescending and rude in regards to his grading/general feedback which can be discouraging for many. Very, very, very demanding course. Wouldn't do again. :/
He is a good professor but hes really strict. He gives 6-7 assignments per week and you only get four days to do them. Yes, you also get homework on the weekends but its not as bad. Overall, I dont think I would take him again but hes an alright professor.
I think a lot of students just want to be hand held and not learn anything. Wu is a great teacher that has a funny sense of humor but takes math seriously. Final was optional and lots of chances to bring your grade up. Big curve.
Quirky sense of humor I see not everyone will get a d take offense to. Exams mirror the quizzes and homework. Breeze if you understand those. Not a fan of the software used but hes not the only one that uses it for online classes.
First math class I actually learned something if not to prove myself to the teacher. Its probably in his plan though lol! Acceptable amount of work and reasonable grading.
Great teacher- not hard. Got to put a bit of effort in to do well.
Fair teacher and responds quickly to email. Distance learning was something new to me but he helped me navigate through some stuff. Would definitely recommend
Comprehensive lectures- a bit hard learning the ALEKS software but I think most other professors use that too.
Best professor. Mr. Wu makes you work for it but helps you with everything. He really cares about his students and responds fast.
Provided all of the tools necessary to succeed. Understanding and willing to change the due date. Work-heavy but manageable. Uses ALEKS for assignments and quizzes, the midterm was on a 3-hour zoom call, and the final was optional. Expect 12-20 hours per week of work. If you keep up with your work you and are motivated you will do well. Good luck!
Great teacher to learn from that will take extra time out of class to answer questions
Move to online class was hard for me but this teacher was very knowledgeable and concerned about my progress as a student. Very personable.
He assigns a lot of work and is helpful to do it if you need to learn this subject. He's concise with definitions and notations, which may appear nit-picky but if your a student that will continue on with math at a university, this is exactly the kind of rigor to expect there. He is always open to give help outside of class. Use it if you need it!
Mr. Wu is a teacher that if you are willing to put in the work you will pass this class, his lectures cover everything needed for the homework, quizzes and exams. The grade for this class is mostly made up of homework and the final exam is optional. He really cares about his student's success gives you the materials needed to succeed!
Wu is a great dude and offers plenty of outside resources and guidance. The only fault with him is his grading style. He does not like it when you present work the way you are comfortable with or feel is necessary, even if there is nothing mathematically wrong with it. He will dock points for even the smallest divergence from the way he does it.
Wu is a great teacher that cares about what his students learn. I guess my previous teacher was too easy and I had to pick up the slack in this class. Like a prior review said, his grading is tough but once you get the hang of it and don't skip steps, its a breeze!
Mr. Wu is one of the best professors at Sierra College. His lectures are well explained and thorough, and he sets clear expectations for the class. He also provides extra support outside of class if a student needs it. He is very passionate about teaching and cares a lot about the students. I would highly recommend this teacher.
Wu is an awesome teacher who will take the time to explain something if you are willing to learn. He has set rules on late papers and assignments but everything is thoroughly explained if you listen to his lectures and read the course outline which a lot of students don't lol.
I took Wu for Calc 1 and he was great, I would take him again if I needed to. His lectures are a direct correlation to the HW. HW is 40% of your grade and all online, an A on HW is attainable. He's specific to how you solve problems, but if you are watching is lecturs then you will pick up on his style. Allows a formula sheet for in person exams.
Mr. Wu, is the most educated instructor & have tremendous knowledge about this subject. his lectures are interactive and hilarious. He replies to all questions right away & gives thorough feedbacks to the assignments which not only helps improving the course knowledge but also helps improving your basic math knowledge.
Whenever Wu teaches this class next you have to take him. He is clear and precise about what he expects. He provides basically a list of problems that will likely be on the test. His tests at the start of the semester will be very fast but stick with the class and they become more manageable. He cares a lot and will help his students succeed.
Mr. Wu was a terrible professor. He assigns 20 hours of homework a week, and doesn't offer any help if you reach out. He is also very unapproachable if you ask a math question he won't hesitate calling you names and questioning ur capability being in the class. Save yourself the headache and don't take him. The worst prof I have ever taken.
Learned a lot in this class but it was a lot of work and not easy. Would have been better if I wasn't swamped with my other classes. Mr.Wu was easy to follow but the material wasn't. If you do well on the homework, you will do well in the class.
Mr.Wu gives great feedback on the returned hw and quizzes- but is very particular on showing work. He doesn't have much tolerance for late work and expects everyone to turn things in on time.
Lots of homework assigned but not compared to my other classes. I had a tough time with some math concepts I should have known before taking this class and Wu tried has best to help me. Reading the other reviews, I feel like you either will like him or you don't- there really isn't any in between. I gave him a chance and am glad I did.
Take this Professor! You will learn and won't regret it!
HW and exams correlate. I would recommend this teacher- there are no surprises and everything is spelled out. Flexible office hours.
Mr.Wui is hilarious- laughs at his own mistakes and makes very subtle jokes. I don't think a lot of students get them but if you do it makes the class go by quicker. Nothing horrible or outstanding in this class- took it for my major and had no problems. As mentioned, just do the homework and you will get the exam.
There were four or five assignments due within the first two days and a couple of these assignments required a printer and scanner. For an online class. For me personally, I believe online classes should only require online materials and that nothing should require to be done offline. I work too much to excel with a lot of his demands.
Very tough grader!! He is extremely precise about how you write everything- even homework scratch work. His lectures are easy to follow, and he is always open to help. Somewhat flexible on deadlines, and assigns a lot of work.
Mr.Wu was an amazing and caring teacher. I was only free to do the class from 8 PM and on and I would reach out a lot when I wouldn't understand a topic and I would schedule time with him to study for the upcoming tests even with my crazy schedule. If you want to genuinely learn and want a teacher who understands the struggle of working full time ^
I took Mr. Wu because I saw the stellar reviews and figured he would help me ease back into math, I was wrong. He assigns tons of homework, due on different days, has you scan math worksheets in every week and critiques any tiny nuance in your writing. Sometimes, I don't even know how I wrote a problem wrong, because I showed my work and was right.
Mr.Wu is cool- but tough grader. He is very understanding but expects some knowledge from the students. Just need to put in a bit of effort.
Best math professor I have ever had. He is passionate about math and knows how to teach it. I am really bad at math. This was my 4th time taking calc and with his clear teaching style, was able to pass this class. It is alot of work, but if you do it you will pass. His lectures are very good. and he is very flexible with due dates. Very responsive!
Weekly web assign, but most of your grade is based on one weekly assignment. only 2 exams. was able to break down the math to seem very simple, and i knew exactly what to expect on the exams.
Professor Wu has a clear teaching style that helped me grasp even the toughest math concepts. The workload is substantial, but using resources like unstuck AI alongside the textbook and lectures made all the difference.
BEST TEACHER EVER. Best grader, teaches concept really well, hilarious, super smart, loves sports, very cultured, creates an amazing classroom environment
Friendly, and willing to adjust if the class is behind, but his teaching style would be best suited for someone already comfortable with the subject. He doesn't explain in detail, uses a lot of similies and references to other types of topics (ie refers to a derivative as a "noun" or "verb" in relation to the function) confusing in the long term
Expects you to already know the basics which was really hard because I don't remember anything from my prior math classes. Guess that was fair but overall thought he wasn't too difficult as long as I did the homework.
This one you either hate him or… you understood him. Because I could follow his examples, it was an enjoyable course for me. I could however see others who didn't and they got lost in the abundance of examples he offered during lectures. Caring human who expects more of his students than to just show up.
His grading sucks and makes no sense. He makes me down for mis spelling, and the text book is super confusing as he says him self, " I rewrite the book so you can have good notes" but then expects you do do 100s of problems out of the book each week. Biggest pice of advice is find a better teacher.
I was so lost in this class not having taken math in years. I just came here to say that he is a very caring person that gets the struggles of working students. His class is not a walk in the park but he is fair and will try his best to help. I would definitely take his class again given the opportunity.
Mr.Wu is serious about learning and is frustrated when students do not care about what they are learning. He gives plenty of examples and expects students to be prepared to ask questions. Definitely cares enough to have study sessions though but some might think he is too procedural and set too much standards. Expects students to write clearly.
