Does not speak english well, very poor teacher.
It is very difficult to understand him since he doesn't speak english very well. He means to teach well and tries but it doesn't help since you can hardly understand him
He is a nice guy, willing to help the serious ones.He teaches well, but's got an accent. He should also help the unserious too.
He has good intentions and knows his stuff. I think he takes too much sh*t from his students who give him a hard time for his accent. He speaks english just fine, and if these people want to make it in the real world, they shouldn't judge a teacher by their accent. I got an A in this class, (and i am normally not an A student...)
Very heavy accent...... but after about a week you start to pick up on it.....have to attend everyday to do efficient
Very good teacher! He is a little hard to understand but he is very smart, and if you actually pay attention he explains things very well. I got a 97% in his class, and never even finished math in highschool.
He is very bad teacher on Precal. He is not explaining well, and he cant understand your question or acknowledge what you asking for. He have bad way of teaching math. (Do not take any class from him)
not very helpful, poor communication of due dates
Extremely intelligent and knows his Statistics!!!! Moves FAST, a little difficult to understand the accent at first but you'll get used to it, very impatient with questions, hard to get ahold of, is sometimes wrong but if you point it out he's cool about fixing it. I found his irritability quite amusing, actually.
Ignatius is a very serious teacher. He sticks to business. He presents a lot of information in a short period of time (a plus). He is standoffish, but will work with you. He knows his stuff and does a good job of communicating it. Presents helpful tips and tricks for trigonometric problems.
He is awesome teacher. I love him. His explanations are very good and clear and if you'd go to his office if you dont understand something he would be happy to explain it to u. Im not very good in Math but I got B in his class!
He is an all right teacher but a little hard to understand
Mr. Esele means well. I will agree that he is very standoffish. I won't comment on his "accent" other than to say even if he had a Minnesotan accent his lectures would have still been painful. He knows what he is doing, but could probably work on explanation. A lot. Easy grader, learn exactly what the book says, and you should have no problem
CALC 1- He's one of those "I talk, you listen" type of profs. He drops low quiz & homework scores which helps your grade A LOT in the end. Overall, I thought it was a good class. He's not good at answering student's questions so just don't get confused. Just go to class and don't get behind & you should be fine!
He was corrected by students on an almost daily basis. Showing your work is apparently worth more than a correct answer.
Grading is ridiculous. He changes how he grades on ever assignment so you never know what to expect. Showing work is extremely important.... more important than you answer. His accent is very hard to understand at first. He also doesnt understand your questions and needs to be corrected frequently.
Great teacher. I had a tough time focusing on math, and when I talked to him during office hours, he was friendly and very helpful. Interesting class.
Very Helpful teacher. I took the class in a summer time, math is hard subject but with his help, it was easy and I had got a B.
He knows the material but stubborn sometimes. He gives you enough time to prepare for test and mostly comes from what he covered in the class. Helpful, if you ask has accent and will get use to it. I would recommned him for students.
terrible teacher, he constantly tries to attack students for using the computers for the wrong reasons when most of the time we all are trying to follow along with him. does not clarify he just talks ( in a very foreign accent which is hard to understand at times) and expects you to soak it all in like a sponge.i do not recommend anyone take him
Not a good teacher. It is not just that he is hard to understand but he also teachers facing the white board! Is he talking to the wall or the class? who knows... Not clear on due dates and so I frequently was missing them! Not easy to talk to very standoffish.
This teacher has an accent, you might get used to it or you might not. He is rather stubborn, and his teaching style will clash with some who have more trouble with math. If you're a self-taught math person, TAKE THIS CLASS, the web enhanced class is an easy A for you, if not, don't. He offers little help for lagging students.
mr. esele is not at all a helpful teacher. he often tells students how he is in control of the class and how you are not allowed to talk, even when you are simply asking another student for clarification(his accent is hard to understand). When he doesnt like you, he uses it against you. I do not reccommend that any student take his classes.
I'm an A type of student, but when I took his class all my other grades went down. I really don't recommend this teacher. He is nice and everything, but he just can't teach the right way. Very disappointed.
At the beginning of the semester I thought Professor Esele was a total jerk. I actually cried in class one day because I was so frustrated with him. I spent the rest of the semester studying and answering questions in class, and I ended up learning what I needed to learn. He's a serious person, so if you're serious about learning you'll do well.
Best way to describe him: foreign. Thick african accent. If he couldn't think of the english words to explain something he would say "you know" while waving his hands around. All homework and quizzes are online. Study for tests! pay attention. take notes.
The guy is serious and strict in his ways. the test is about class notes. so you have to take notes & follow the lecture at the same time. also he isn't good at answering questions in class, its better to visit him in his office. no formulas or test review, and you must show all work on your test, even if you do the algebra you getta do the drawin
Math is not an easy subject, especially in a condensed summer course. Esele did a great job of focusing on the necessary material. All of his test material comes from practice problems that he thoroughly solves in class. He demands respect and does not appreciate talking or cell phone use in class. Simply work hard and pay attention in class.
Ignatius did a great job with his syllabus and course outline. But when it came to getting an explanation to a problem, it was difficult due to his limited English skills. He also had regular errors in his problem sets that cost hours of my time. I would only recommend taking classes from him if you are a good book learner and very motivated.
Possibly the worst teacher I've ever had. Im really bad with accents and this guy is really bad with english. Not good for much other than putting em to sleep, but if you can teach yourself, you should be fine. But I wouldnt take him unless it was my only option
This teacher does not know how to help out in class, he has trouble understanding us speak; not even to mention that we can' t understand him. He has gotten worse over the semester, and is just a complete jerk. Sometimes i just want to throw my notes at him and leave the room!
I took Calculus 1 with professor Esele. He knew the subject very well but it was hard to approach him. Many students were afraid to ask question because he has very high expectations. Also he is sometimes hard to understand. Overall he is a great teacher and I learned a lot from his course.
what a wonderful teacher, he makes math so easy, he is calm and attentive when solving problems which makes it easy for people with math axiety. the best teacher ever.
I took His class math 1080 and prof Esele made it so easy for me to understand. very helpful and Highly Recommended!
do your homework on time, attend classes and be attentive in class, ask question, you will definitely score an A. This instructor is very helpful and always wants every student to succeed. don't listen to people with negative comments, take his class and you will never regret. Highly recommended.
Good guy. Go to class everyday and pay attention for an easy A. Gives alot of extra credit and second chances sometimes to earn back points on the test. All test questions VERY SIMILAR to the ones he goes over in class. HIghly recommended.
You need to go to class every day to understand the material. He really tries his best to get everyone to understand math, but it takes a while to understand him. Overall he's an okay teacher.
You need to go to class every day to understand and keep up with the material. He really tries his best to get everyone to understand math, but it takes a while to understand his accent. Overall he's an okay teacher.
Amazing professor! Was initially skeptical about taking him from reviews. He writes his notes on the board and they're identical problems to the HW and in-class groupworks. Go to class & do the GWs! There's no makeup! Groupwork problems are similar to what's on the test! Tip: don't buy the book & purchase the MyMathLab key on Amazon, it's $60 there
He is a great teacher a little hard to understand but he will go over it again as long as you ask him He wants everyone to pass and as long as you come to class and are willing to try you will pass He is willing to help you during his office hours, he gives extra credit, tests are pretty easy Book was cheap, the class I took with him was statistics
I have a hard time with math so I knew it would be a tough class anyway. I was really struggling with understanding the material. I work full time and could never get to the office when he had hours (45 minutes of office time is all he had on the syllabus). He suggested if we had trouble that we should go to tutoring - which is only open until 6.
Took him over the summer. As long as you were willing to learn and put in the time, he was willing to farther explain things to you. Tests were questions right out of the text book. Do the text book practice problems!!!! If you don't understand them ask him- he'll go over it in class! His accent is a little tough to understand sometimes.
He was willing to help always. Great teacher!
DO NOT take a course with this professor. Worst experience I've had. Did not teach me anything, had to teach myself the entire course through the textbook. Very hard to understand, never answers questions, not helpful what so ever. Absolutely terrible. Very often would give the wrong answers to examples being presented, and not go back and fix them
people who complain about accents need to know that its the brains and teaching skills that matters not how your English doesn't sound American. this is the best math teacher I ever took. I got a perfect A because I was always paying attention in class and disciplined. he is very helpful if you try to help yourself. don't listen to lazy people
In previous math classes, I usually end up having to teach my self how to set up problems so I can solve them in the fastesteasiest way possible. In this class he explained everything in a way that made perfect sense. If you pay attention to THE WAY HE'S SETTING THE PROBLEM UP, you will pass. If you know how to follow a cooking recipe, u will pass
All he does is read the pp that he already has posted on D2L. But u are forced to go to class because "group work" is 10% of your grade. Lectures are useless, reading the book on your own produces the same results. Doesn't allow u to work on homework in class even though u are paying to be there. Doesn't like to be interrupted w/question. DISLIKE!
His lectures are absolutely useless! He reads off a powerpoint that's on D2L. Group work is 10% of your grade and he won't tell you when its going to be, so you have to go to every class so you don't miss it. The homework is super easy and the test questions are straight off the group work. It'd be hard not to get an A.
He wants you to succeed. He lectures then gives you group work which really helps you learn the material. His tests are exactly what you will expect. He has a good sense of humor too.
This is the class to take if you want an easy A without a comprehensive understanding of the material. If you need to take stats to satisfy a requirement and wont be needing statistics for your career, take this class. Easy tests- same as the group work but switched numbers. However, if you are going into a field that requires stats, look elsewhere
This class was awful and Mr. Esele did not help at all! It is very hard to understand him, so I ended up teaching myself everything off of the slideshows online. But you still need to go to class, because he does surprise group works that count for a lot. I'm surprised I passed this class with the grade I did. Goodluck to anyone who has him!
Has an accent; pronounces theta wrong, like titta or something; have to show up for surprise group works; if close to an A or B by the end of the course, he raises your grade up so you'll get the A or B; final is easy because it's only on group works.
He has an accent so it is very difficult to understand what he is saying. He does not teach well. He gets behind in the syllabus and I had to teach myself everything and whenever I asked for help, he would tell me that he taught it in class and I should get a tutor. The homework he assigns is online. I do not recommend him. You will struggle.
Extremely hard to understand and is terrible at explaining.
The professor means well, but is difficult to understand and does not explain things as well as necessary.
Horrible at giving directions/feedback to questions. powrpoints he posts are copy/paste from text book, very lazy approach. Textbook, webassign and D2L assignments are the same questions so there is no diversity of information don't waste $ on textbook. Get ready to teach yourself using outside sources. Students teach each other, not reassuring.
Get the book ASAP! He is a helpful teacher as long as you can understand what he is saying. He gives a lot of homework so stay on top of the website. Don't use your phone where he can see. Talk to him, be really nice, kiss ass, and everything should work out. Pay attention to every examples: they will be on the tests.
VERY HEAVY AFRICAN ACCENT. SERIOUSLY. HARD TO UNDERSTAND.
First, his accent is heavy. Half the time I just accept the fact that I'm not understanding/learning anything. Secondly, he skips half the lessons on the test because "not enough time". Thirdly, when students bring up the fact that we have no idea what's going on.. he yells at us. Also, he interrupts you every single time you try to speak lol.
This was the worse class I've ever had to take. He taught me nothing the entire semester, and I honestly hope they fire him because he didn't even want to go back into assignments to help me correct my mistakes. I read the textbook like a bible and barely passed with a C.
Taking his summer course. If you can't teach yourself, don't take this class online, if you need help he has very limited office hours. This summer class is very manageable. 1 wkly hw assignment, only 3 short quizzes over the 7 wks, 10 question midterm and a final. Do the study plan for each HW problem! They are also the test questions.
He is unclear in grading the tests, didn't prepare the material for teaching, can't solve the problem clearly, skip the problem if it's hard.
He doesn't answer questions clearly. Kind of put you off learning at all. Just terrible all together.
He is a fine teacher, makes grading criteria clear, just a really boring class overall
Professor Esele is extremely funny, he will go over things with you if you ask. His accident isn't heavy at all, people are just bad at listening. Very boring class, but hey it's stats.
This was the best professor I have ever had BY 1000 MILES. He is so EXTREMELY understanding and is very reasonable when it comes to due date extensions if you have a reasonable excuse, granted me many extensions because he cared so deeply about your learning rather than when you turned it in. Tests and quizzes were EXACTLY what he told you to study
I loved the class. I thought he did very well, and was very organized. However, he is extremely difficult to get a response from. I sent him over 6 emails about the Mid-Term. No response. Other than that quizzes every couple weeks, discussions every week, homework on WebAssign every week, and Problem Sets every month or so.
Lazy teaching style, missed the first day of class. While this should have been my first sign things in this class wouldn't be organized I continued taking the course.
Was a ghost for the entire semester. I understand it is harder to teach an engaging math class online, but I feel there could have been more potential. The only announcement on D2L for the entire semester was how to set up pearson.
DO NOT take a class by this prof! I took an online math class and this prof taught us NOTHING! the powerpoints provided were made by the textbook. I'm still taking this course and I do not have my final grade yet. Please save yourself the time and do not take a course by them.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. By far the worst I've ever had. He is EXTREMELY slow with his lectures (will take whole class to poorly explain two or three problems), he is arrogant towards the students and acts like a complete ass if you question him. I didn't listen to this website when everyone said to stay away and i ended up having to withdraw.
he is the best professor. i took college algebra with him and again am taking with him calculus1 this summer.
Very slow and unengaging lectures. He knows the material well, but his slow and monotone explanations are very difficult to pay attention to. You won't learn much, but the material is generally pretty easy and you can pick it up outside of class. He's very forgiving when it comes to grades, but you can likely still have an easy A from another prof.
Professor Ignatius is very clear, gives problem sets that are exactly like the exams. responds immediately when you ask, definitely one of the professor in the college.
Understandable person, but study and take your own notes from the textbook so you can remember stuff better.
Does not teach nor does he tell you the correct chapter for the week. Expects you to learn the content on your own and then puts unrelated questions from chapters we haven't learned on the homework. He is extremely disorganized and makes everything confusing. I should have listened to the reviews here. Steer clear of this professor!
Took him with calculus 1 he is good. Syllabus instructions Were clear, used webassign to do the homework and tests. There was weekly assignments. I would recommend to anyone.
This course was online and was the worst class I've taken. He does not have any lectures posted (in an online only class!) never says when anything is do, lots of homework and no help from the professor. Would never take again. Worst teacher.
This is the worst put together class I've ever seen and I've taken a lot of classes here.. This is a complete and utter joke and such a waste of time. DONT. TAKE.
Professor had no contact with students not even to introduce himself. All homework and quizzes are done on a website and not taught by him. The lessons are videos from easily the early 2000s and the power points are right from the text book. Material on quizzes often didn't match the homework. Only positive is he responds to emails pretty quickly.
Class is AWFUL, purely because it was online (my fault for thinking I could do an online math class) I did not understand any of the material. However, Mr. Esele was very kind and understanding with deadline extensions, and responded to emails quickly. He dropped bad scores to help your grade as well. Not a bad guy, just don't take online math.
Just don't take him. Never take him for many reasons. He is not even fit to be a teacher. I am not even sure how he even got this job in the first place. I even got A+ in calculus 1, but I had to try so hard for this easy class to end up passing with a B. All he does is read the slides and scribbles on his whiteboard. A Disorganized worst teacher.
This class was overall pretty easy, lectures are available online and attendance is mandatory. Not a lot of homework only weekly homework that take less than 2 hours to complete. I think there only 2 exams in this whole class that are repeated from lectures so pay attention to lectures coz he puts in the exam. Not a tough grader at all
No proctored quizzes/exams. If you miss quizzes, just let him know and he'll reopen them for you. Not a harsh grader at all. Assignments are online and easy discussion posts.
It was very difficult to get through this class without guidance by the professor. I was expecting there to be walkthroughs of problems/videos or something but we were handed a textbook and homework and I spent the entire semester with just those things. If you like teaching yourself the entire course this is the class for you.
Don't like him, he doesn't teach anything, doesn't help with he, and gives too much of it
Ignatius was a pretty good person, and he knows the material well, but the lectures were monotonous and boring, especially for a 10-11:50 class. I always made sure to show up whenever I could, as I am chronically ill, and he was understanding about that. Replies to emails fairly quick, but doesn't go over the material a lot in class. 4/10.
Lectures weren't the best, but very lenient and easy grader. He also gives a lot of chances to improve and remove bad grades.
Not the highest level of teaching, but effective. He was very lenient. He allowed you to turn in assignments in 2 weeks late for a max of 85%.
I feel like I taught myself this class. The teacher was completely absent besides late grading and a few random comments like “great work” or excellent work” on discussion posts. There was no clear direction on how to proceed with the class in the beginning. He doesn't interact or really even teach anything.
Only take this class if you're prepared to have a teacher who is unclear in instructions and says "ok" without actually understanding what he's doing. Also, only take this class if you're fully prepared to learn everything on your own.
OMG! I BEG DONT TAKE THIS PROF. This was my first semester of college ever and i made the mistake of not registering earlier so i got stuck with him. I was having trouble with Pearson and didn't know how to work d2l and he was not in the slightest understanding. I emailed him multiple times explaining my confusion but he didn't care and dropped me.
At first, I hated his class because his lectures weren't the greatest, but the most crucial part of the class was the homework and tests, which were open notes. I would use Desmos, which helped me so much. He also dropped so many bad grades that I went from a C to an A. He is a very lenient grader.
Thinking of taking this teacher? Please don't. He's extremely inflexible—even when I explained my personal circumstances, he refused to make any accommodations. Hoping to talk things out? Don't count on it. He won't even respond to emails unless it's convenient for him. I don't think I've ever typed a rating, so that says it all.
