HARD TO UNDERSTAND BUT IS VERY HELPFULNESS
I actually really liked the guy...i just couldn't understand him for that thick Russian accent
He was an awesome professor. I mean, sure I could barely understand his Russian accent, but all the notes that he writes on the board explains everything. Go Igor!
GREAT TEACHER....thick accent is tough but overall an extremly nice man and great teacher. Class is pretty essy!!
Can't get over the accent!!! But I love the 10 question tests!!!!!!!
bus calc....good class and the guy is super smart i mean he figures out calc problems in his head like its nothing without a calculater. has a accent but its cool i think. Recommend his class to all. ALso 5-10 questions quizes are great!
Great teacher. Easy notes. Plenty of practice problems.
Sometimes he is hard to understand, but he really cares about the class doing well. His tests are easy and he tells you what the test is going to be on, and does practice problems. Awesome teacher. Very Easy!
Straight out of a james bond film. Awesome teacher conveys the important points of a topic well and will help you after class if you still dont understand. If your gana take Calc he is a great teacher to get.
Made a "math person" hate math....however, was pretty easy...just be prepared to teach yourself calculus. Definately requires a lot of out of class work! LOVED the 10? midterm/final though. Always has 1 trick question worth 20% on major tests..makes sure u deserve that A!Most of my class failed tho.
If you do the homework, you will Ace this class.
This guy is good. Very knowledgeable and helpful. He is a very nice man. Teaches the important material that is needed to proceed. Plenty of practice problems.
This was one of the professors that I have found in the math area, actually helpful and easy. There are only two exams, and you have quizzes every week off of your hw. Basically if you do your work, you will pass. He also goes over the hw with the class.
for some reason i really liked and did well in this class. he wasnt very easy to understand and the class wasnt very easy, but the way he teached seemed to click with me.
This guy was probably one of the best math teachers in the dept. Just like the others it is hard to understand him, but he does teach pretty good and as long as you are there to take the quizes you will pretty much get a c in the class. Just show up and take everything and youll be fine. Yay no more math. ;)
He is a great teacher. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. It's kinda hard to understand him coz he has a thick Russian accent. But if you attend the class and follow what he teaches in class you should do great. He is better than all the other teachers trust me. I switched 3 teachers b4 i took him.. he is better than the rest!
Cant understand him and he teaches soo fast, but his quizzes are cake
Great teacher, hard to understand, but makes a lot of mistakes while teaching. But his class is easy and hes a great teacher.
He's very hard to understand, kind of a jerk (makes students feel bad for asking questions), and doesn't explain things very good...he's not very hard though...it's a give or take but i'd go for a nicer, more understandable professor...
Igor is hard to understand, he speaks little english, so understanding him is difficult. BUT, he is a good math teacher, he works out tons of problems as examples to help with the homework. Homework is given daily, but not graded....but deffinately do it, the quizes (each week) are directly off the homework!
This guy has a crazy Russian accent but tries his very hardest it seems to give you and A and doesn't realize it. If you do ur homework and get the right answers bring them to his quizzes and you get an A. Very stubborn in explaining but interesting class and a very easy B guaranteed.
not a hard class, but you need to do the homework and do well on the quizzes, bc they are half your grade. only two question quizzes and ten question tests- midterm and final... a b is an 76-89 so a B should be a given an A a reasonable goal, if you try.
Gives a two question quiz at the end of most weeks. The problems are straight out of the homework assignment. Do your homework and you'll do fine in the class. He has a thick accent, as others have mentioned, but it doesn't matter because math problems work the same no matter what language you speak.
Speaks with a very thick accent and does problems from beginning of class until end of class with very little explanation
Attendance was mandatory *only on Friday*. His accent is difficult to understand, but with his method of teaching it doesn't really matter. Test questions come *directly from the homework problems* (with different values). Very easy to pull a B or better.
Easy teacher, he's nice i guess, he does have an accent, doesnt really explain things well @ all.so if ur really good @ calc or don't mind gettin a tutor to actually teach u the lesson then take him.easy tests
Igor is as plain as can be. He does problems on the board from beginning to end with little explanation. On the good side he gives the easiest test and there is no required homework for his class.I got a high B and barely tried.Get a good calculator though.
Hard to understand, but test are easy and homework isn't mandatory! Gives 3 question quizzes and 10 question tests.
Speaks with a very thick accent and too quietly! Starts the class out by basically giving you some formulas and assigns problems. He does the even problems in class sometimes making errors! 3 questions on quizzes and 10 on exams (usually only mid & final). HW is not mandatory and attendance really is not either except for quizzes/tests.
Great teacher! I love his teaching style..he gets directly to the point..teaches you what you need to learn and then tests you over it..take him!
Does not explain problems well.
I will admit that I could of put forth a better effort;however, this freaking guy does not speak english (that well), dont expect to have him explain it to you after class, all I got was incomplete sentences, and mumbles, and heiii heyye, etc. I had to drop, HCC here I come!!!! I give him a D-, but Quiz's are kina easy, no HW! Attendance is mand.
He has a really heavy accent and speaks softly so sit in the front. He goes over all evens that he assigns for homework. Easy test they are only 3 questions. Only downside is he does not understand the questions you ask unless its a number to the homework.
I am horrible at math so i really struggled in this class. He is very hard to understand. His accent is very thick and he doesn't explain anything. He writes really small and really fast so if you can sit up front. His quizzes are easy if you get the material tho, i didn't understand and had to have a tutor
His accent is very tough to understand! There are NO tests, except for the final-which is ONLY 5 questions & worth 30% of ur grade. You have a quiz once a week & they all add up at the end of the year. The quizzes r only 5 questions each & worth 60% of ur grade & can't make them up. Attendace is worth 10%. ONE good thing is-you dont have to do hw
Helpful, considerate, strives for his class to do well. Amazing to speak with, and provides helpful guides for quizzes. I highly recommend him to anyone who struggles with math! If you can get around a slight accent, you will do great. Overall though, one of my memorable math professors!
Very hard to understand. Must pay close attention to every word. Tests are hand-written by him and he is helpful. Does extensive reviews before tests. Do the homework and you can get an A. Class grade was made up of 3 tests, each worth 30 percent of grade. The last 10 percent was attendence.
Very sweet. Just be respectful and patient and it will pay off in his class, for sure. He's very helpful, you just have to be willing to ask. I've taken him 3 times, not one regret. Don't make fun of his accent. He is actually trying to teach you.
Has a tough accent, but bare with him. His tests are cake, make sure to go to class the day before test, he will give you pretty much the exact layout of what will be on the test. Don't drop him after listening to his accent, it will payoff big time in the end.
The language barrier is difficult, but just do the homework and youll do fine. Drops the lowest of the 4 test and never checks for homework, he simply assigns it for your personal practice. Go to class the day before the test, he tells you the exact type of problems that will be on there. Easy A if youre somewhat okay at math, but a B for sure.
I took calc with two other professors with no luck. Took it with Chitikov and did well. His accent takes time to get used to, but overall he's pretty clear. He lets you use formula sheets which help a a lot. Highly recommended to anyone looking for a good Business Calculus professor.
Can't understand anything(unless you teach russian), no point in going to class, have to teach yourself
Has a very deep Russian accent that is hard to understand. If you took high courses in high school this class should be repetitive so it is pretty easy to follow along. No homework. Only 3 tests and he drops the lowest one. Exam is final but not cumulative. Would recommend if your good at math already!!!
I never understood a word this guy spoke. He has a very thick accent and moves fast. Overall, this class was repetitive if you took PreCalc in highschool. No homework, 3 tests (about ten questions each), and he drops the lowest. This class is great if you're a slacker and don't like doing busy work. Just make sure you can teach yourself. ;)
You won't learn much from his lectures, but attendance is mandatory. Bring an ipod or a laptop, he doesn't care. Despite my low ratings I would recommend him because there is no homework (only for practice), and just 3 tests (lowest dropped). Each test = 10 questions, but cover everything in the chapter(s).
Very difficult to understand and I would have appreciated not having to come to class so I can spend my time more wisely. The lectures will not teach you anything. There is no facilitation of learning.
I loved this guy. This class was a breeze for me even with his accent. Even though attendance is mandatory, I never went to class and the lowest grade I received on a test was a 90; he allows you to use notes on the test. I would recommend taking him if math comes easily to you and you don't mind teaching yourself.
Takes attendance so go to class. Sure he has a thick accent but his tests are fairly easy. Study and you should get an A.
In regards to accent, compared to other teachers, I didn't find it to hard to understand. Formula sheet allowed on every test with lowest grade dropped. Getting in touch with him is hard, but he is happy to help after class with questions. Doesn't spend a lot of time going over the concepts, rather he just works through the even numbered homework.
Had him for two semesters in a row: Calc I & II. He has an accent and several eccentricities, but he is a good teacher nonetheless. No homework & no quizzes. 3 tests, 1 final. 1 test is dropped. 10% attendance, 60% best of 3 tests and 30% final. He has a relaxed teaching style, making the lecture short and doing many problems. Recommended.
Found the class to be easy. He does a LOT of examples but spends little time on the teaching portion. There are 3 test he drops the lowest. He requires the the project an final most is one or the other but he offers a alternative to the projet a HW assignment. if you study hard you should be good. After the 2nd day his accent is easy to understand
Very laid back teaching style. Does a lot of examples and assigns homework that you can choose to do or not. At first it was really hard to understand him, but I got used to his accent after a couple weeks. I definitely recommend studying a lot outside of class because the material can be slightly challenging.
Chitikov is a good professor, but be warned, you will not understand him at the beginning, but withing 2 weeks you will. Thats his only downfall but other than that, he shows new material in like 15 minutes and works the problems from the book for the rest of the class period. His exams are pretty easy and he gives partial credit. I recommend him.
I honestly thought he was one of the worst professors ever. I never missed class, but his teaching is very hard to understand and his tests are almost impossible to answer. I thought it was gonna be an easy class like the people on here said but I went to tutoring almost everyday and I still didn't pass the class.
VERY CONFUSING! Semester is almost over and I still don't understand him. I honestly don't know how I'm doing so well in the class because I have no idea what I'm doing on exams. Grades are only exams and attendance and so far I have a B+. He sometimes won't finish questions because he can't figure it out! Mess of a teacher. Has never been on time.
He mumbles and has a very thick accent and very bad handwriting. He doesn't work problems step by step. The linear textbook this term is written terrible. He follows the book. So you can't even teach yourself when u don't understand him. Bridge to abstract math was easier than taking linear with this guy.
He seems to be a really nice guy but attending his wasn't what I expected. It is hard to understand him and when he explaining a problem its not all that clear.
Igor is a great professor. i took this class over the summer and it was great. He is very straightforward in what he expects you to learn. No surprises on the tests. I hope that i will be able to take another class with him in the future.
he goes only over examples and writes tests from the homework. doesn't collect homework and drops one test that is 30% from the total grade. Not too easy, but fair enough
Obviously know his material, but can be difficult to understand. Very thick accent, and sometimes doesn't quite understand questions he is asked. Available and attentive for office hours, but I didn't find them very helpful. Works problems quickly on the board, can be hard to keep up. Great at teaching calculation technique, but not with theory.
Very, very hard to understand. Shows up late every class. Makes mistakes on almost every example that he shows on the board. The final is completely different from what is taught in class or hw given, which is what he tells you to study, And its 40% of the grade. Missed a C by 2 points, because of his final. Avoid if possible,
Professor Chitkov is one of those professors that seems intimidating to go up to, but once approached is more than willing to help you. I struggled with Calc 2 but I took Summer A. Worst decision EVER. I attended every lecture and worked hard, he noticed and although I was originally supposed to get an F, he gave me a C. :)
I got over his accent the first week of class. Although the class was fast paced and I was a nervous wreck before 1st exam, I ended up doing really well! His exams are so straight forward, exactly was is practiced in class and HW and they are really generous with grading. Attendance was not taken and HW was just for practice. SUPER cool guy!!!!!
Takes attendance. Concepts seem really easy in class but his tests are 5 questions long and not so easy to pass. They're not straight forward questions, but proofs on the material that he expects you to learn. REALLY fast pace. We covered 6 sections in one day at one point. He drops one test. No graded homework or quizzes.
Easiest Math teacher I have taken. I literally got an A with only showing up to class on tests and review days. His tests are very easy.
I am so glad I took Calc with Dr. Chitikov! He gives amazing lectures and explains the material way better than any textbook. There are 6 exams, one dropped. He does not check your homework but you should definitely do it on your own - the problems are very similar to those on the exams. He also gives you an idea of what material will be on exams.
Prof. Chitikov has a thick accent but if you pay attention you shouldn't have a problem understanding him. His math class (Calc 3) was the easiest I've ever taken. You can use a formula sheet on every test which helps a lot. Attendance is optional but recommended so you can see what will be on the test and watch him do thorough examples.
Thick accent but you get used to it. Tests are easy if you know the material. Attendance IS A GRADE, although not mentioned in syllabus. Drops one exam (not final). Allows personal formula sheets. Not a great teacher but if you got through calc 2, this should be a breeze. Never taken notes or opened text book for homework, holding a mid A. Take him
As mentioned in the below comments, he has a thick accent. If you can get past that, he's quick and to the point, his tests are pretty basic, and he's definitely not out to fail students. This is my second time taking Calc III and I've picked up more material off of him than the last professor.
Long boring lectures, speaks very low which makes it very hard to hear him. Hard to understand. Only goes over textbook example problems in class and doesn't seem to have any sort of passion to teach.
Chitikov is a good guy who isnt out to fail you. Accent heavy but easy to adapt to it. Content was difficult, but that could just be me. Tests were only 10 questions each, but he did not grade them. Grader did give partial credit however. attendance was 10%. 5 tests altogether. 1st: 10% 2nd-4th:50% (one dropped) final: 30%. He takes attendance.
I struggled a lot with this professor. His tests are based off the homework he assigns but the homework is optional. Igor teaches at a fast rate, which can be a struggle to follow because of his sloppy handwriting, heavy accent, and body that covers his work on the white board. I wouldn't recommend this prof if math isn't your best skill.
Do not take this class. The professor has a very thick accent and whispers. You will be learning from online videos and not the lectures. Igor is very smart but cannot communicate his ideas. There are 5 tests and a final that make up the overall grade. The averages for the test never got above a 59, and there is no curve for the class.
Awesome teacher who does not design his class to fail you. The content is difficult because it is calculus but if you master the homework and the in class examples then you should do great on the exams. like all higher level mathematics its about how much effort, and time, you put into the class. I am an A, B student. highly recommend
I took him for Engineering Calculus 1. He lectures and assigns homework out of the book, but its not graded. There no web assign or anything. The only grades he has are 7 quizzes (he gives 10 and drops the lowest 3). His quizzes are given every Friday but are usually only 5 questions. If you do the homework and attend lectures you'll do fine!
He is a good mathematician but a terrible teacher. His accent is very difficult to understand and his use of English is poor. He very obviously understands what he is doing on the board but he can't convey that to his students. The only redeeming quality about his class is that all of the tests are memorization Don't take his classes.
I took him for MAP2302 or Differential Equations, there wasnt an option. Hes a little soft spoken and had a thick accent but knows his stuff. Sit up front and take notes and you'll be fine. Exams are based on homework. Fair grader
Hes a great calc proffessor. Most of my friends agree and people wish they had taken him instead. Very straight forward, hes not confusing and he shows helpful methods of doing the tests. Test questions looks like the ones from the book. If you undestand the questions in the book then you'll get an A on the tests. His accent is easy to get used to
1. Dr. Chitikov tends to mumble so it is hard to understand him even after adjusting to his accent. 2. Dr. Chitikov's lectures were about 95% examples, which is good to learn how to do the homework but not good for inspiring interest in the subject. 3. Dr. Chitikov has some interest in the success of his students, but not much.
I have taken this guy for calc 2, calc 3, and am currently taking him for differential equations. He is clear what is going to be on our exams, the class right before the exam he reviews everything and tells us exactly what kind of questions will be on the exam and there are never any surprises. Exams are easy, and he rounds grades up. Easy prof
Dont take this proffesor if you wish to pass calc 3. He doesnt know how to teach and his lectures are mediocre. He assigns you exercises for tests but they dont have any similarities. You have been warned.
The class is 100% based on your exams grade. Hard to follow along and the homework assigned is not enough to do well in the exam.
What can I say? This isn't the most interesting class. I showed up to exams, solved differential equations and left. I've only attended maybe a total of 6 lectures during the entire semester and ended up with an A. Show up to the reviews which are the classes right before exams, get all of the homework problems, do them and you will be fine.
Class is boring bc I'm not a math guy but he gives really easy tests and his lectures are bearable. Also lets you use a cheat sheet and graphing calcs for test so that's easy. I was able to get an A without having to invest too much intense studying. I got Cs in Calc 1 and 2 so tbh I was surprised that I did this well.
Actually no reason to get anything less than a B. The averages for like 8 of the 12 tests taken so far have been at or above an 80%. Weekly tests are 5-10 questions on material just learned, with usually only 1 or 2 questions of moderate difficulty. If you have half a brain you will pass. His lectures are sub-optimal but ez tests make up for it.
You cannot understand him. He means well but like you cannot understand him. Besides not being able to understand his lectures are like 97% percent examples that he doesn't explain, like just works through problems w no explanations and no teaching
Overall a good professor, he has a strong accent and sometimes makes mistakes. The class is mainly based on tests and the final.
Got an A in this class by simply doing every question in the text book. His exams are really easy, considering how confusing his lectures are. Lets you use a cheat formula sheet. Doesn't give homework. He doesn't go over past exams and never replies his emails.
Dr. Chitikov is overall a very straight forward professor. He is very clear about what to expect for tests and they highly mirror the textbook problems that are done in class. Homework is not mandatory for a grade, but doing the examples will prepare you well for the test. Do those and you will do great. 10/10 recommend
Always tells you EXACTLY what to study for on the 5 exams he gives and pulls test questions straight from the textbook, couldn't be easier. You'll get used to his accent over time, trust me, and he just seems to really know what he's talking about. Great person and professor
He does not teach. At all.
In a almost 2 hour class you get about 15-30 minutes of actual instruction. Would have liked the class a lot better if I could leave after that. His first language is definitely not English but if you actually pay attention he's not hard to understand.
He knows the stuff he teaches and his accent isn't bad + you get used to it. Questions on the tests were ALWAYS from the exercises he said were going to be on the test and sometimes were straight from the textbook. Attendance is mandatory and as long as you do the hw and show up to his review classes, this class should be an easy A+ for you.
The worst instructor I have ever taken. He is poor at explaining the material. He was late to every class. His TA grades all of the tests and provides zero feedback on the grade. The TA also incorrectly grades the tests as well. He has a lack of accountability for his TA and it is evident he cares for nothing more than receiving his paycheck.
He is a great professor. He will teach you what you need to know for his exams. He won't put something he didn't go over. He goes over concepts within the first 20 mins of class and the rest to cover examples, where you can ask him questions if you have trouble. His tests are easy if you practice every day and go over all the homework exercises.
Very test heavy. But just do the problem numbers he tells you to do one class before the test and the test questions would be exactly the same with different numbers. Super easy professor but has a very thick Russian accent. He cannot teach that well so some self-study is required.
Has a light but noticeable accent, tend to mumbles from time to time. While it is possible to self-teach yourself, I would recommend paying attention in class as he teaches and tests directly from the textbook. I noticed that several HW problems we did in class appeared on tests. Overall, calc 2 is hard but pay attention and you'll do fine.
I took him for intro to abstract mathematics. He cares about his students. There were 5 exams with the final, but he didn't curve or drop any. You can bring your own cheat sheet and he tells you what's going to be on the exam. Attendance is mandatory but the language barrier makes studying on you own necessary.
He has a strong Russian accent, and his lectures are basically him seated on the chair showing the calculations in a paper that is shown to the class for 1:45 hours. His homeworks are not worth any credit, and exams + finals are 90% of the grade; the exams, however, are extremely easy. He also gives a list of questions to be done before any test.
Prof Chitikov has a thick accent, but his lectures are still manageable. He teaches directly from the textbook, so staying on top of the homework is key. unstuck AI was a huge help for studying and practice problems.
bad professor but makes it clear whats gonna be on exams
Awesome professor. Although he has an accent. You'll get use to it within the first day. Interact with the professor during the class time, and do the hw on time, and the minimum you could get is a B.
The professor is always late, overcomplicates the concepts, and does not understand technology at all. His heavy accent is difficult to understand and he doesn't make his lectures engaging at all. Expect to self-teach most concepts. The TA grades the exams harshly and takes off points for doing it the way the professor taught.
Doesnt speak english
He is hard to understand. He somehow makes Calculus III hard. He didn't grade our attendance the whole semester and the one day I missed, he graded it. When he teaches he does it on paper and puts it on the projector, except he doesn't know its not even on the projector even when we tell him to move it. I could teach my class better than he could.
You are better off teaching yourself everything. During class he does not explain topics he just does practice problems but with his accent no one in the class can understand him and he makes everything extremely complicated. There is no graded homework but if you don't do the practice problems he gives you will not understand anything.
DO NOT TAKE HIM, don't speak English reliably 10 min late and test grades only if you don't have self study skills get ready to fail.
do not take igor shitikov, if you do not have good self study skills, be ready to fail. Heavy Russian accent, if English is your second language, you will understand one out of ten words in his lecture. If you get him for ANY CALC drop immediately. credit where credit is due, the test is easy, and he will tell you the questions he will ask.
DO NOT TAKE. Overcomplicates concepts, thick accent which makes it hard to understand, and also can be rude. You will end up learning everything yourself because he DOES NOT teach well. There is no HW grade, which means your grade depends only on 4 exams and attendance. Imo, exams are easy b/c he gives u the questions. That's the only upside of him
Want to succeed? 1. Preview lecture before class. 2. Go to class. 3. Do homeworks. 4. Obey class rules; prof is old-school -- no eating in class, no side-convos (Think: European rules.) He is caring & very helpful. Does many ex. problems. Always answers questions, reviews homeworks. Not intimidating. Brilliant at maths. Only con: moves quickly.
The only good thing about Chitikov's class is that he will tell you what is on the exams. It is nearly impossible to understand his lectures if English is not your first language and on top of that he will make simple subjects confusing. Exams are graded very harshly. If you cannot teach yourself calculus, you should drop this class.
