I have had Dr. Marder for 3 prior semesters (50, 60, 70) and he is excellent! Im glad I have him for 102. The best math teacher at AVC in my opinion. Lucky to have got into his class.
Awesome math teacher! I took him for Math60 and 70, and I passed both times. ^__^ He's a very nice helpful and FUNNY teacher. I really enjoyed his class, I'm glad I got to take him twice. He's not too difficult when it comes to teaching, he breaks it down. And if you ask the dumbest question, he'll still answer you and try to help you understand.
Dr. Marder made me love math!! the way he explains things are so crystal clear! hands down best math teacher I have ever had! Im taking him for all my math classes. I told all my friends to take him! Awesome teacher!
Dr. Marder is a great math teacher. He seems very gruff at first; however, he really works with students to ensure they understand the material. Great teacher - Highly recommend him!
He is an excellent teacher! I am not good at math but he would explain everything very clear. If you have any questions just ask! I love that he makes you feel comfortable to ask questions, if you are unsure. You can tell he truly cares about his students.
Best math teacher I have ever had!
LOVE this class! Marder may seem harsh at first, but he loves what he does. He always makes real life connections. Even your dumbest questions will be answered. Makes everyone feel comfortable. Be sure to show up and turn in the homework! He's a great professor, so happy to have gotten in. Do we all agree? (his favorite line)
AN AMAZING PROFESSOR CLARIFIES EVERYTHING PERFECTLY AWESOME SENSE OF HUMOR A WELL IF YOU MISS CLASS YOU COULD FALL BEHIND AND ITS DIFFICULT TO CATCH UP
Hands down the best Math teacher at this college. Love him! He will always be my first choice for a Math class....
I didn't enjoy his class. His teaching style confused me, and he often belittles students when they get a question wrong. I took his math 070 class and when someone would get a question wrong he'd just make them feel even worse. Rude, usually late. I wouldn't suggest him if you don't already have a good understanding of math.
Only take his class if you need a review or are very good at Math. If you struggle with Math I suggest you look elsewhere. Only does 1-2 samples per concept, no test review at all. On the bright side he is a nice guy, willing to answer questions but teaches more like a review class instead of breaking things down step by step.
He grades you for participation, homework, and tests. His tests are easy if you do the homework and study. The best part is that he lets you have notes for the tests except for the final. He breaks down each problem step by step. If you have a question about the topic he is teaching he will answer it. You need the textbook to do homework.
Dr. Marder is a good teacher. There is no extra credit, but he allows notes for his tests. Be sure to do well on the tests, because the final is extremely difficult and can knock you down a letter grade. Be sure to do the homework and attend class.
Dr. Marder was a cool professor, but I don't think that I'd take any classes with him again. He doesn't go over the material very extensively, so if you are not good with teaching yourself math concepts, this class may be difficult for you. He is a very nice man, has a good sense of humor, and I loved his accent :)
He's awesome and his lectures are easy to understand i don't know why others complaining here. If u don't understand just ask he's so nice. Don't slack make sure u do ur homework coz it will help u alot. Open notes on exam except finals. I recommend him.
As long as you go to class and pay attention you'll be fine. If you have questions ask he'll be happy to help.
GOOD teacher was in his math 070 fall 2014 and now in his math 102 spring 2015 ! i will and am going to take him until i finish all the math i need to transfer .!!! Thumbs up Dr Marder!!! Keep up the good work!
Took him for Math 70 intersession, greatest math teacher I've had in a long time. I recommend him to everyone to people whom do no have a good foundation in math. His accent is evident, but clear. Reminds me of banes from The Dark Knight Rises. (Not a bad thing) Superb Dr.
He's great. Do the best that you can on quizzes! If it weren't for the notes and homework I would have failed!
One of the best math teachers you could take at AVC. Let's you use cheat sheets on all the test except the final. Teaches in a way that's easy for students to understand math and if you don't, he explains it until you do get it. Goes as far as to use in-n-out as an example to get you to understand the lecture. Awesome and funny teacher. TAKE HIM!
Definitely take!! He teaches from Math 65 to really hard math. He's absolutely incredible at explaining. You leave his class understanding the lecture 99.9% of the time. His tests are only 25 questions, and if you do your homework, they're really not bad. He's a bit intimidating at first, but look past that, he's actually really funny. Take him!
Best math teacher ever he explains every single detail of the problem! He's funny and his classes are very informative I wish all the math teachers were like him.
Best teacher ever his classes are fun and interesting would take him again
great!!!!!
I passed, but I had a tough time understanding some of Mr. Marder's lectures. I need to be explained every detail, but he seems to do a lot of it in his head and then write the answer. He's very funny but very intimidating, I was afraid to ask for help. If you're like me and not math savvy, I would take caution.
Love this professor! This being my first semester I thought it was gonna be harder, but he made it fairly easy. If you do your work then you will definitely pass. You won't pass if you do poorly on the tests. He is very funny, and he is very clear in his lectures.
If you are fairly good at math he will like you, if you and math are not friends... DONT take him. He choses 5-8 students at the beginning of the semester and those will be the only students he will call on, and give participation points too. If you are actually trying, he won't notice. His favorite phrase is "Most of you will not pass"
Took him for Math 102 and really struggled in his class! If you're not good at math to begin with, don't take him because you'll have a hard time. The lack of tests/actual classwork you can turn in for points can hurt your grade if you do bad in his class. Don't get me wrong, he's a great guy but his class isn't easy for people who struggle in math
Math is not my best subject but I dedicated myself and I passed. He teaches math in a very simply way that was easy for me to understand. You earn points in his class to pass which can go both ways. Do the homework and do not skip a class it is easy.
I struggle with math, he does explain pretty well. & if you do the homework; you'll understand more. I read the book because it helped me grasp what he was teaching. Lots of homework, but it's very helpful that he lets you use open notes, except for final! Tests are important too, they're only 25 questions., but tough! Lol
He's a bit intimidating at first because he starts off the first day by saying the majority of students will not pass. Hes pretty straightforward and he has tons of teaching experience and he teaches very well so it is very easy if you pay attention. The textbook is used but I would recommend just checking out the book @ library instead of purchase
Great teacher! Not sure why people are saying if you aren't good at math to not take him. I'm bad at math and he made it very clear for me! And not sure why someone said if you don't do the work you won't pass; obviously if you don't do your classwork/homework you won't pass.? Best part is you can use your notes on the test! Really helpful!
I attended Dr. Marder's Math 102 class during Summer 2016. His lectures are fantastic, very detailed with great explanation. You are free to ask questions if you get confused. Homework is given at the end of every class. Really great guy, passionate about his work. Love his accent, and he has the kindest eyes. Something beautiful about him...
All I have to say is that he is an amazing teacher I love his class. I'm not good at math but the Wayne explain things would make me understand. I would love to take him again best math teacher I have ever had!
he doesnt like being disrespected, aka dont talk when he talks
I took his class for math70 he is very straight forward he does lecture through the whole class and does not waste one minute so don't depend on leaving early. Participation points for attending just pay attention and always do your homework that he assigns after every class meeting he gives you the material you use it order to pass.
first, he likes being called, Dr. Marder. Don't be afraid to ask questions in his class e'll repeat it for like 3 or 4 times depending on the difficulty of a lesson. be attentive all the time, pay attention when he is speaking do not take him seriously when he says "most of you will not pass", FOCUS ON YOURSELF AND WHAT YOU CAN DO!intersession2017
He's a great teacher. Very descriptive and funny. He makes you think the class is going to be hard, but its really not, especially if you pay attention. If you are slow at math, just take the 2 courses separating them, because he's one of the best math teachers here, but he will not single you out individuals. There are too many students for that.
He's a good teacher. Just show up to class and do the work and you'll be fine
This was my 3rd time taking Math 102, because I completely suck at math. He is very nice and his lectures are slow, typically one per class, so he takes his time explaining the math. He also lets students use notes on all the tests except the final. I wish I would've taken him the first time. I highly recommend him to anyone.
he really knows his stuff he's not a bad teacher just depends on you. I recommend him if you're fairly good at math and aren't a slow learner. however, if you're the opposite and need to be taught more in depth, it's best to go with someone else.. he goes WAY too fast, but OF COURSE he doesn't mind helping when you raise your hand.
Dr. Marder (be sure to call him that!!) is a wonderful teacher. He is patient, kind, & answers all questions; definitely doesn't mind repeating things as long as it gets across. Is extremely understanding if you can't make it to class but you'd have to email him in advance. His tests are a little difficult but he is funny and awesome. 10/10
Dr. Marder is a great math professor. He can be intimidating but he does care, he will repeat things if you ask him to and is very understanding if you have to miss class, just email him. Homework is given out after every class period. Do your homework and attend class and you will be good.
Dr. Marder is a really good professor. I recommend him if you want to pass. He allows open notes on tests(4 ch tests), gives credit for attendance, and always answers any questions so dont be afraid to raise your hand. Doesnt require an access code for online hw at all just need the textbook for hw. Study for the final and youll be good!
Respected teacher. He gives what is expected. Nothing crazy. Allows you to use your notes except on the final. Tests are multiple choice. Just study and youll be good.
Pay attention in class because he will pick on you! He uses the textbook for homework, gives you a study guide for the final, random pop quizzes that he doesn't collect. Picks randomly when asking a math question so be ready to have an answer! Or just say I don't know and he moves on to the next person. Overall good teacher :)
His tests are ALWAYS multiple choice.
Doctor Marder (which he likes being called) is a bit tough but if you pay attention and do your homework you'll pass, second time taking him for 70 and 101 and wished he did math 115 also. I'm not to bad a math but if you don't understand he'll help you out. Also don't talk in his class, and he does require a text book that is a bit expensive.
Homework is an option, its basically extra credit. He is my favorite teacher. Makes your grading on a point-basis, so its up to you to make the points.
Uses scantron for tests. No partial credit. Wont answer questions in class. Big attitude. 70 percent of you are going to fail well, is that a reflection of your teaching? Lets you use a formula sheet. Was getting an A but dropped anyways. Wasnt going to end well, when he wouldnt answer our questions
Dr. Marder is a great teacher. He knows his stuff and really cares that you learn the criteria. His explanations and lectures are very detailed and you can ask questions at any time and he will go over everything! Excellent class!
Dr. Marder is a great professor his lectures are extremely clear and he wrote the outline of the topics we cover as we went. You do need the book but only for the Hw Qs (I took pictures at the library ahead of time) my advice is to do the homework of the lecture by the next class session it really kept me on track. The homeworks dont take long.
He is a good teacher understanding but not biased. Teaches the material straight forward but if you miss class its kind of hard to catch back up. Homework always given at the end of class and is said out loud so dont miss it. Over all not a hard class to pass if you go to class.
He is a great teacher honestly. Do all the homework and you'll do great on tests. You are allowed to use notes on test which makes it easier. No group work no mandatory participation so that's good as well, but you do get extra points for participating which helps. If you have trouble with math take his class he's great!
He may seem a little mean and rude in the beginning but Dr. Marder is a good teacher, he just has an attitude to him. Grading is simple and clean, homework was easy, tests were straight forward. Lectures do take the full time but it's worth it because it's certainly helpful.
You need to understand the concept of the lesson and be able to apply. He made sure that you understood before he moved on. Ask and he will clarify it. If you need to see him, he offered office hours. He is kind of funny too. Not a lot of homework or tests/quizes.
Igor is an amazing professor and he breaks down the math so easily, just be able to pay attention, he can be boring at times but as long as you keep up and put the work in you should be fine.
He sometimes comes off as arrogant but is really sweet. Took the whole semester to like him but in the end he was extremely generous.
Very thorough and professional. Only teaches what you need to learn. Pretty lenient with hw. Available to students outside of class.
Prof Mardor is terrible. He is unwilling to explain if you don't understand. I withdrew from his class, and took it with someone else. What I didn't understand with Dr Mardor was EASY with the other Prof. If math is a challenge, do NOT take his class. He does NOT allow a formula sheet. Uses a SCANTRON for tests. Forget partial credit on your test
He's one of the hardest Professors I've ever had. Lectures are easy, he will make be a challenge, and tests are harder than the actual Homework. He does offer Workshops at the Learning Center, but in class, it's completely different. I went to the Learning Center nearly everyday, and it was still impossible. Great guy, but awful at Teaching.
Dr marder is a great profesor! But do not take him if you are bad at math!!! If you have a good understanding of math than his classes are for you. HW is assigned every day but due on test day DO NOT PUT OFF THE HW it is helpful for the test your grade depends on the grade you get on test about 5 test you can use flash cards and couculator.
I'm not a fan a math but Dr. Marder made it quite easy to understand. He's nice and makes sure everyone understands before moving on. There is only 5 test, each 20 points/questions. No extra credit. The final was difficult for me. I felt like some of the questions, we didn't go over in class. All in all, He's a good teacher.
He wasn't awful, but I definitely wouldn't take him again. He tries to fly through the lessons, and doesn't provide very many examples. Honestly, the only reason I did so well was because I had an amazing Math 070 teacher. 10/10 would not recommend
It's best for you to check out other math professors before enrolling in his class.... unless it's your last option. His teaching wasn't great, even if you go to the learning center it's useless to get an A. Unless your good at math, he goes through his lectures and doesn't give many details nor good example to help you study.
Makes math simple.
Took him for Math 102 and Math 124. Good experience in both classes
took his class in the Summer 19
Taking his Math 102 class now. Good transition to online.
Good lectures. When went online- easy grader
Free textbook online Makes Math easy to understand Easy grader when moved online
Easier than what I thought.
Easy to pass online class
The class was online because of COVID, and he made it interesting. 2 weeks left. So far so good.
This class was rather difficult. Do your best to show up, and do your best on all the assignments, (tests and homework) good luck!
he's a pretty good professor, but if you're really bad at math, like me... then it's going to be hard for you to understand because he teaches really fast. The homework is okay not too bad the test is okay as well. Just study. He does Workshops, so I recommend if you have a hard time in math denfitely go, he will help you.
Good real life examples
First math class which i understand
He is really good at teaching math. He will show you powerpoints on the day's lecture and you can take notes if you feel like it will help you. He will give examples and let you practice it in order to see if you did it correctly or to see where you made your mistake. He is not hard at all but math tends to be hard sometimes. I advise you take him.
This is hybrid class. Partially on Zoom, partially in classroom. He made this transition smooth, and easy to participate.
I was worried that I would have a boring math professor that would make me hate the subject even more, but I was very pleased with him. He made a couple of joke to lighten the mood now and then and constantly asked the class if we had questions regarding anything. Recommend really paying attention and taking notes.
Patient, explains everything well.
He was a good professor, he explained things well in class and if you actually do you homeworkwhen you should you will do okay. That said, do your homework!! His tests are kind of annoying !! The homework will help balance it out. There are few other grades. Just show up, do the homework. He's a cool guy.
A great professor. He knows how to break down complex problems and makes them easier to understand. Pay attention in class and practice homework problems. He does reviews before midterm and final. For exams, if you try your best on a problem, he gives you credit. Ask questions and be respectful. You will get whatever you put into it.
He's a good professor, his lectures are straight forward and make sense. Tests do matter a lot towards your grade so make sure to do well on them. He's a generous teacher and gives inspirational speeches sometimes and cracks a few jokes. Overall a cool professor to take for MATH 135.
at first its a little hard to grasp the concept but as long as your paying attention and asking questions it'll make sense and you should be fine. he doesnt actually check to see if your homework is correct he only checks if its completed. he also makes little jokes and gives little motivational speeches in class but overall hes a good professor.
Breaks down the material, easy to understand even if you are not good at math.
Though he assigns a lot of homework, he grades it leniently and awards credit based off of effort only. He encourages participating in class to ensure that people are learning the material. He introduces concepts step-by-step and usually solves problems in class the same way. Will help prepare students for midterm and final with specific examples.
Great professor. Keeps things simple and easy to understand. Grades leniently and attendance is mandatory if you want the points for just showing up. Tests are open notes only if you prepared your own note cards beforehand. However, if class is cancelled, he will not let you know in advance. You will show up for nothing.
The first thing he wants to talk about is his name & how hard he worked to get the ''Dr'' title & how to address him as such. The second scheduled class, he had a note on the door saying class was canceled. I stay 40 minutes away from campus, so a heads up about class being cancelled would have been great. Very unprofessional on his part.
Professor Marder's course was my 1st college course after taking a long break to raise my children. I couldn't have asked for a better professor to reintroduce me to college. The class itself can be challenging, but Dr. Marder breaks everything down that it makes it almost impossible to NOT grasp the concept. He has a great sense of humor, too!
He is a fantastic professor and has an extremely clear grading outline. He quite literally tells you what type of problems will be on the test and they are all multiple choice because he uses scantrons. Clear lectures and answers questions very effectively. Willing to re-explain topics as many times as needed. Take him.
Everything is on paper, the only things on Canvas are lectures and grades. He asks if we have any questions and go over homework problems. The work is fairly easy and he even says its the easiest math class we will ever take.
Dr. Marder is an amazing professor! He might come off a little stern in the beginning, but he actually has a really endearing personality. Lectures always went by really.
This professor is amazing! He is very thorough with explaining different concepts and also shows how the concepts can be applied to the real world. Amazing mathematics teacher, and highly recommend that everyone take his class!
Dr. Marder is an excellent professor! He's really good at explaining concepts and will slow down if the class isn't understanding. Pretty easygoing if you need help or an extension on work. There's quite a bit of homework, so you have to make time for that. Other than that, the class was simple and he'll occasionally crack a joke.
It's this professor's last year teaching but surely, he loathes teaching and puts his students down if they do not understand his horrible teaching dynamic. Not the way to teach and help students retain info and pass exams when your ego and ostentatious attitude does not help keep your students engaged. Horrible teacher overall.
I had anxiety coming to class because of his teaching methods. He would ridicule and patronize students that didn't understand what he taught based off one problem. Graded on participation in class and randomly called on students for his quizzes. I asked to visit his office hours for help his response was no and to go to tutoring.
