I took him in spring 07, which is his first semester in Baruch. He taught very well. He had slides for you, and he analyzed them and put down notes for you. Extremely helpful. If you take him, make sure you don't skip his class 'cause the textbook bs a lot of stuff and he will analyze them and tell you the things you need for tests. A+ professor!
The best professor!! He really wants you to know cost accounting He is so pationate about class. His lectures are extremley helpful, his problems prepare you for exams. He takes time to explaine stuff. He is great great professor!
Very good professor. Explains the material very well and does his best to ensure that everyone in the class understand the material. With his teaching and doing the online quizzes was a great remedy for my success.
Great accounting prof. Focuses on what is important in managing a business, not on debits and credits. Tough exams, but the more you put into it, the more you will get out of it.
He is one of the best professor at Baruch. He explain and make sure that you understand before moving one. Made Cost Accounting interesting(unbelievable right!!!) and he's not bad to look at
Best accounting prof at CUNY! Go to class for his jokes. TDH...
Dude is awesome
Hands down, he is the best!!! Other accounting professors in Baruch should fight for having a chance to wipe out the dust off his shoes.
The best professor ever!
The best professor in cost accounting department!!
Wow this was a really difficult class. I studied so much, but the professor was great!!! He made everything very clear and without his teaching i never would have passed. Definitely take him if you can!!
He is the best professor in Accounting department. He is extremely helpful and nice. Very intelligent. You will never foget him.
The best accounting professor at Baruch. Amazing teaching skills.
The best. He let me know thinking deeply is more important than just learning. I will miss him.
Best Cost Accounting Professor ever. He made the subject interesting to learn. I started to like cost accounting after his class. Good teaching techniques. Extremely intelligent!
Very hard class. Great professor!

Toughest class I've ever taken. Class average on tests was in the 60s. He curves but still really difficult. You never feel like you master anything because the tests involve tricks and VERY hard twists to problems. Professor very smart. Perhaps too smart to teach this class! because not quite aware of level of students' understanding and their nee
awesome!
Definitely a hard class. The prof tries to convince students to think rather than memorize formulas. I think that's what makes it both very valuable and very hard. The best prof I've ever had.
Very very hard class. Prof Vaysman does his best to make it clear that the class is hard and that it will take lots of outside work. You do the work - you should be fine. Prof Vaysman lectures are very clear; he is very well prepared; he is extremely helpful; and also he is extremely funny. Students who are not fluent English speakers will h
I did every problem in the book, went to every class, and studied more than I have for any class. He doesn't test on your knowledge of the material, he tests on problem solving skills. I knew the material so well and scored in the 60's for the midterm and 50's for the final. He had to curve +20pts. Awful Tests otherwise he's ok.
Disagree with poster below that he is the best professor. Clearly not a bad professor, but does not test the lectured material. None of the questions on midterm were remotely like the questions in textbook or in sample exams. Most are problems that you have never seen before, and cannot find anywhere. Makes preparation difficult, if not impossible.
To the whiner below: If you want problems exactly like in textbook or past exams, you should not be in grad school. Do you think that in business life you only get textbook problems? Yes, it is a hard class. But you learn so much!
Just great! The only problem is that because he is so popular, his class size is huge, like 95 people in Fall 2008.
I got an A- and I got a 68 on the final and a 67 on the midterm and I got an A-. VERY HARD. Barely learned anything. A = 93 and higher; A- = 89 - 92.9; B+ = 86 - 88.9; B = 80 - 85.9; B- = 75 - 79.9; C+ = 71 - 74.9; C = 65 - 70.9;
Many take this class who should be getting an MS (i.e. they have taken a lot of accounting before). Keep in mind there are people in this class who have not taken accounting before at all. I prefer being able to practice at least intermediate level problems before taking an advanced test. The only sample problems are easy level.
For me, best prof at Baruch so far, by far. You get as much out of the class as you put in. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
Everyone recommended his class. Glad I took it. If you want to learn how to make decisions and how to question reports, nobody can touch Prof Vaysman!
Great professor. Great course content. Great experience. Very funny, keeps you awake through material that could be boring.
Spends most time on real business applications, not on silly textbook examples. Tough exams, but healthy curve.
He was extremely helpful and tried really hard to help you when he could. One of the most interesting professors at Baruch! Really grateful I had taken his class, and he is a very understanding professor!
He wont go over the examples in class. He spent most of time to talk about the real business applications, which wont test you on the exams. I would say, he is helpful sometimes, because u will learn the real business. However, his lectures are not good for the exams. You have to study hard by yourself!
he only go over the simple examples in class, which is not enough for the test. Exams are much harder than his lectures. he seems nice but the tests will kill you, because the questions on the test are nothing like his notes in class.
Goes over the material quite well. grades based soley on the 3 exams but he did give partial credit and a few extra points on each exam. overall a fairly good professor
Excellent lectures and notes. Gave partial credit on the exam and a few extra points 117 possible grade..A joy to have him teach ended up with an A- for the class because of the final...Cost is a hard subject but he does a great job explaining all the concepts.
Loved class and professor. Everyone I know made A's or B's.
One of the worst. He teaches you the very basics but expect you to know the most complicated problems. In class, you can feel it is easy and concise. But on the exam, your eyes will be sparkling to see that the problems are NOT what he teaches at all. you will see what I mean if you are in the class. BE WARNED....
V Surprised by the negative comments on ACC9811. Great lectures, look forward to the class (first time for ACC ever). He gives you all of his old exams and makes it clear that the class is tough. Anyone who tries to do well does well. And he is amazingly helpful in class and out of class.
Great MBA class. Managerial and Cost Accounting totally new to me. Surprisingly interesting. Not too hard if you come to lectures and keep up.
Professor Vaysman is the best professor in the Accounting department. Second time I took Cost and very pleased with the results. If you read the book, do the assigned hw and attend his class you will do very well. Strongly recommend him for this class.
Very helpful professor. Cost Acc is a VERY difficult subject no matter who you take it with. Responsibility on you to study, explains everything SO CLEARLY, very good ppt. Highly recommended! Answers e-mails promptly and available office hrs. Great summer course
Out of all the prof. this guy is the best. took it once before, failed. took it with him got an a-. he teaches the subject very well, and gives you examples from prior exams. he knows the material, he makes the test, and he gives the grades. u wanna get thro. cost, this prof is ur key
He is a good guy, but his teaching style is all over the place. It is as though he has ADD. He is too concerned with the sound effects on his PP presentation than the actual material...it is hard to concentrate bc he goes off on tangents and often doesn't get back to the point he was trying to make.
He is the best Acct Prof;in Brauch, explains crystal clear & you know what to focus on. After class, you will be able to do alot of problems by yourself. Acct Dept. should have this kind of Prof but mostly they are bad/ lazy to teach/ do minimal work/ doesn't care student. Anyway Take Him 110% Guranteed!!!!
The best Prof is ACCT! Congenial, available, thoughtful and quite fair. Though subject matter is doable and lectures comprehensible and interesting, exams are difficult and a majority of problems are presented differently than taught in class or in the text. Do participate as it can make as much as a grade difference.
Best accounting class so far. Interesting, relevant, real world material. Professor uses his own cases. Knowledgeable, energetic, funny. Highly recommended.
Excellent in every way. Interesting with real examples. Easy enough to prepare for exams, with lots of sample questions. My only A in all the grad accounting classes. Actually look forward to classes...
Great coverage of management accounting by a hilarious prof!
Very responsible and nice professor! Course is well organized!
<3 Him!
Not very good at explaining things. Has a severe case of ADD, talks a mile a minute. Does case studies but doesn't spend that much time on the basics and going over more examples. I wish they would offer ACC9115 in the 3-week winter session again, not worth going to 14 classes over the Fall semster.
Agree 100% with comment below. Def. not an easy A. He spends too much time on case studies and "real world application of accounting principles" & not enough time actually teaching what's on his HARD tests. Attendance not mandatory but 10% is participation & he uses a cold call list, BEWARE! But if you don't get chosen to speak, u still get 10%.
Fantastic. The best MBA course by far!!! Relevant up-to-date materials. Immediately useful in my job (and with recruiting). Prof writes his own cases. Miss the class already.
Great. Very nice, funny professor. Definitely knows his stuff. Highly recommended.
Very knowledgeable about the topic. Keep the class engaging and fun. The best professor I have had at Baruch so far. The exam was challenging but I like it. Highly recommend.
Passionate, lively, and bright instructor who taught at Insead (top European b school). Gives lots of applicable advice on competitive strategy, offers great real life examples from his consulting experiences. Exams challenging, but he tries his best to prep you. Taking microeconomics together with this class helps understand the last chapter.
He gives 2 tests each semester;a midterm and a final which are very tricky. The key is getting partial credit on the problems. Be very careful with the multiple choice. There's obviously no partial credit on them and each problem is worth 5 or 10 pts. He's very passionate about teaching and covers interesting topics throughout the semester
Very good Prof. If you attend his class you'll do great. Not hard
TOTAL GEM of a Professor! I am only a couple months into the semester but I can fairly say Prof. Vaysman is one of hte best profs I've ever had. He puts 200% into his lectures. Crystal clear, straightforward and challenging.
Vaysman loves his topic and that makes it easy to learn from him
Everything here is true--he's great. Acing exams: He throws curveball variations on each model, so know all the fundamentals. Exams test on how to adapt a model to slightly new situations. Text is useful in first 1/2 of semester, not so much later on. Just use text to prep generally before each class. Be sure to talk to him and show interest.
Prof. Vaysman is a very good professor. He teaches well, respects students, has great sense of humor, fair, very enthusiastic, professional and highly qualified. His midterm is hard and the final is even harder but he prepares you well. As long as you attend the classes, actively study, and solve sample exam questions you will do well in his course
Midterm is easy, Final is not. Gives partial credit though. Great Prof who teaches well and who has very relevant insights into real world managerial accounting. Take this prof. He's the best Baruch has.
midterm is a breeze he gives you all his old exams. class average usually over an 85. final exam is insane no way to really prepare and grades are a black box. 1st half of class is way more interesting than 2nd. tough to not get at least a B for the semester in his class
One of the best MBA professors. Teaches more from a managers perspective than an accountants. Uses real life case study which in my opinion was one of the best learning tools. Midterm was not too hard however final is really hard. He spends more time teaching the concepts but the final has more computations than concepts. Strongly recommend him.
I have to say although his class is interesting but he show no real respect to students after the class..
He knew and taught his stuff really well. He gave generous curve so didn't have to worry about grade too much. Tests were tricky but completely doable. If you really want to learn something, this is the class.
I have taken 12 classes in my MBA program so far. He is the best. Very professional and knowledgeable. He makes lectures interesting and the material very practical. Take him if you want to learn something in the fun environment
Professor Vaysman has a clear mastery of the material it comes across in the very insightful lectures which are always tied to business cases and real life applications making his class very interesting. He is extremely considerate in his approach to students and provides very well organized presentations and fair and clear cut grading policy.
This was by far my favorite Professor of all time. A lot of the math/acct profs at Baruch can sometimes be a letdown but Igor was truly a gem. He explained the material very clearly, started each class with a quick review of the material, brought up interesting case studies and was also (BONUS) actually funny!! HIGHLY recommend!
Igor is an exceptional professor. He is a thought leader and is able to teach his own publish works which are very interesting. His lectures are very easy to follow but somewhat quirky - a BUZZER goes off between each slide transition. Only two tests but they are very fair. Grades on a bell curve. Highly recommend.
Professor Vaysman is very nice, however, he is not that helpful for the class. He talk very fast and He doesn't explain the material so well. Cost accounting is a very tough subject, you definitely need to work hard by yourself.
Best professor in Baruch. I only wish he taught more classes. Cost is a tough class, he made it easier. Go to all his classes, go to all the workshops. It is your only shot.
He is so dedicated to his class that he even hints the final questions and what to be aware of. He focuses on solving problems instead of definition garbage like in other classes. You can do it if you study and focus on his lectures.
Professor Vaysman is absolutely one of the best professors I've had in Baruch. He manages to make ACC actually interesting and even fun. He's very clear and attentive in his teaching, and always available outside of class.
Easy-peasy and stress-free professor.
The professor is awesome!! He makes cost accounting fun. Really knows his subject and actually likes teaching, not just there for paycheck. The classes is very hard and can get boring at time so he takes breaks in between to refresh your mind. It's important to take notes and read the cases AHEAD of class time!!!
Igor is the best professor I have ever had. He is extremely engaging, encourages participation, and makes managerial accounting very interesting. The best part is that he teaches the subject matter through his own professional experience, which makes the practice problems and examples engaging. You are missing out if you do not take him!!
This class material is hard overall but he explains it very well.We had two exams & 2 case studies. The case studies were based off your effort only. The exams were difficult but if you review the previous exams, you should do well. The class was about 4 hrs long but he did give us a break in between class. Overall great class!
I enjoyed taking this class with this professor. Suggest to do lots of practice questions and all the self study questions he recommends.
Professor Vaysman is one of the best professor at Baruch College. He is very understanding and willing to help. The class consisted of two case studies, one midterm, one final. Do the practice questions that he provides prior to the midterm and final and you will be good to go!
I enjoyed his class. Professor was very accessible outside of class.
Igor is a great professor! He is very generous with curves on his tests. Gives a lot of review tests for his final and the midterm. Be prepared to sit through the entire 4 hour class. Make sure you take notes and go over the material in the textbook. If you put the effort in, you will get a solid grade in the class.
If you're thinking about not taking this class over the comments below then you are “OVER THINKING”. Will this class be stressful? Yes, It will. But, like everything in life you can find a balance. Try taking it alone or in your last semester. Crunch the practice problems from the homework and practice exams.
Tough class. You are assumed to understand an undergrad-level basic accounting and cost-accounting, and a school level math. Prepare as you are told, and it would not take much time for you to prepare enough to get an A. Midterm and finals are 40% each, the rest is free points. Lectures are interesting if you enjoy accounting. Feels MBA-ish.
Igor is a great professor. He uses real-world examples to teach how the material applies in practice. His exams are definitely challenging, but he is truly respectable. He's also humorous and approachable, which helps create a very positive and engaging classroom atmosphere.
A very intellectual and articulated professor. Good at explaining challenging cost accounting concepts. Deeply embarrassed and appalled by my fellow classmate attacked the professor with foul language. Baruch has been going downward spiral by admiting such a terrible student. The professor tries his best to teach and does not deserve this.
Professor Vaysman is so enthusiastic! I want to concentrate on managerial accounting as he made the material interesting and simple to understand! He is respectful to the everyone and happy to help with issues and questions.
For me, he was not a great professor. He explained stuff all semester, and then on the midterm and final, there was nothing of what he had explained in class. He gives examples from past midterms, so just start learning those, nothing else. No textbook, and not what he does in class. There should be more professors teaching this class, not only him.
Not the best, but the only professor teaching this course. Super lecture hvy. Grade is based off 1 midterm, 1 final, 2 case studies and intro survey. Txtbook not required. Lectures helpful only to an extent. Midterm: do past midterms to study. Final: Good luck, ur gonna need it. If u trust him when he says past finals r harder, ur in for a shocker.
Gave the easiest midterm and then the hardest exam for the final i've ever taken!! He's a great teacher though and the only one who teaches 9811 so you don't have an option. I just can't get over that final..
i personally found his teaching style to be challenging and hard to follow. class is graded on 1 midterm, 1 final, 2 case studies, and 1 survey. everyone did pretty well on the midterm but the final was extremely difficult.
great prof overall, practice questions or sample exams are important but not enough
